You have most likely heard the last name “Rane” come up in some sort of rowing dialogue. After the podcast with the New Trier Boys, I felt it was only right to have twins Rachel Rane & Jonah Rane, NTRC ‘19 coxswains, along with their older sister, Eden Rane, NTRC ‘17 coxswain, to discuss how their family comprised of 80% coxswains, manage to be some of the most elite and well-respected boat drivers in the nation. The family chats about the true competitive culture that they were raised in, how they go about breaking records, making history, and so much more. The love that they all share for the sport is truly unmatched. Rachel is the Varsity 8+ coxswain for the University of Texas, having been a two-time consecutive NCAA National Champion for 2021 & 2022, while also striking Gold in the Women’s 8+ at the 2022 Under-23 World Rowing Championships in Italy this past summer. She is also ranked as a CRCA & Big-12 First Team All-American. Jonah coxes for the Badgers at the University of Wisconsin on the Men’s Rowing team, where he competed at and won the 2022 Royal Canadian Henley, while continuing to impact the squad on a positive note. The eldest sibling, Eden Rane, coxed the Women’s Lightweight Rowing Team at the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 2021, being the president of SAAC, a large role representing student-athletes. Their mother, Michelle, also coxes Masters Rowing and is probably one of the most supportive parents (along with their father Mike) in the rowing game. Tune into one of those episodes, that will make you want to get out there and just be straight “dawgs”. The passion and ambition that this family has for the 9th seat position is truly out of this world!
