Speaker 1:You may learn something. You may learn something you never know. But first off, I want to say happy belated Veterans Day to all those veterans out there. Thank you so much for your service. We love and support all you guys. Uh, we have an amazing country. We have an amazing military. Oh, let's see. Let's see if dan's got it this time. There he is, hey, buddy hey, what's up this thing's?
Speaker 2:hey, we're, we're also talking, uh, chasing daylight podcast veterans too. Thank you for everybody that's listened up until this point.
Speaker 1:It's been incredible yeah, we, we've picked up a lot of new listeners over the years and there's been some amazing people that have stuck around the whole entire time, so thank you to you for doing that. Wanted to, of course, thank the people that support us, the Golf Stop indoor track man facility here in West Henderson If you haven't been in there, go check them out. Roars Golf Roars is in the Bahamas right now on a little vacay. So much love to Roars and his support for the show and Las Vegas Golf Superstore, which you know. We'll run our Vegas Golf Superstore ad later on in the show. But yeah, and then Scott Russo from Underwritten Law. Thank you to that gentleman for allowing us to continue to use harmonic as our intro.
Speaker 1:So you guys have a nice long weekend, dan probably not I did not have monday off, so no no, I already got some.
Speaker 2:I had a nice long weekend of watching kids at the house rob get there, get there yeah, jo there.
Speaker 1:Yeah, joe's been on here for a little while hanging out with me and he's got his hands full. He's got his hands full. Definitely do Throw some good mojo his way if you can. So I got some golf played. We'll talk a little bit of the golf we played real quick. I was at a Boulder Creek with Woody on Thursday. Jeremy and Dan, you guys played there Sunday or Monday morning, right, I did.
Speaker 6:Jeremy had some issues.
Speaker 1:You're muted, Jeremy. You're muted, Chad.
Speaker 3:Yeah, that was a funny story. Actually, we booked uh angel park for sunday and boulder creek for monday. I pick up dan, we head to angel park. I'm not feeling so good. We get there, we we t off dan. Dan loses a ball in his t-shot and then I tell him that we need to leave because I'm going to be sick.
Speaker 3:Because I was just right, so we turn around go back in get a refund. I drive him home. Immediately after I left his neighborhood I turned the corner, got out of the truck and puked all over the rocks.
Speaker 2:What happened Wow?
Speaker 3:Too many zins, or what Did you have a zin?
Speaker 1:16 or something.
Speaker 3:No, it's my children, my Petri dish. Children brought the stomach bug home.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3:Yeah, and then, I just backed out of Boulder Creek. Luckily, trey, julian, dan filled in and Rich was in town, so he took a spot. Unfortunately I didn't get to play with him, but I'm glad he got out still.
Speaker 1:Dan, what did you think of the creek? How was it for you?
Speaker 6:Awesome, it was in great shape.
Speaker 1:It was in such good shape.
Speaker 6:Yeah, it was really nice. Greens are nice and quick rolling. True, Like I was saying to Trey out there, it's weird because you know the greens are really good because even when the uphill putts are still rolling out. So, yeah, it's weird because you know the greens are really good because even when the uphill putts are still rolling out, so it's yeah, it's in really good shape right now and if you haven't been to Boulder Creek, get there, yeah, and also shout out the amigos on the green they.
Speaker 2:they just launched their YouTube channel Julian and Trey and they were out of Boulder Creek and the little albatross on the first YouTube video is, uh, pretty special.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's pretty cool they lit up that front. Nine lit it up. So if you haven't checked that video out, I'll put a link in the bottom so you guys can check that out. Um, watch it, watch it. Yeah, so woody and I played thursday. It was 45 degrees out and the wind was blowing, so it wasn't as nice as you had it yesterday, dan. Um, we got uh. Matt Boyd was supposed to join us I'm sure he's listening and uh, he did the. Uh. I said I was coming.
Speaker 2:Um, so, uh, he messaged me. He's like glad I didn't go. I'm like, oh wow yeah dirty.
Speaker 6:Oh, we had a blast.
Speaker 1:Yeah, dude like you've got to get over the weather.
Speaker 2:Dude like I'm like oh wow Dirty. Oh, we had a blast. Yeah, dude, you've got to get over the weather.
Speaker 1:Dude, if it's not raining or it's not windy, buckle up, dude, you're fine, just get there, get there had my hoodie on most of the day and then pulled it off around we made stirrups and started getting warm, but, oh man. So we had a four ball in front of us and they told us to go through. But there was a group in front of them and so we just took our time and chilled and I was doing a lot of studying the course, trying to remember some stuff for the weekend coming up, and then they, they went in the uh, the inside at the turn, and so we jumped ahead of them and the next group uh, on the par three, the first par three on the back said come on through. And so I mean we finished even waiting on that front nine.
Speaker 2:We finished in like 330 so speaking of this is is there like a temp where you won't go play golf, like?
Speaker 1:what does it?
Speaker 2:mean what's the cutoff when you can't like?
Speaker 1:when they won't let you. When they won't let you, yeah 32.
Speaker 6:Dude I played in.
Speaker 3:Utah in the in like 20 or in the teens, because they for some reason kept the course open in December and it was. I mean it was fun, but the balls were. It was just concrete on the greens, there was no stopping it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean I have a friend. He moved out of Las Vegas. He lives in um, uh, vancouver, washington now and he's just a fair weather golfer. You know like he doesn't like nerd out and love it like we do, but he does love the game and you know, if it's too cold, like he's not going and I just like, if I have the opportunity to go, I'm gonna going to go, like you know like me.
Speaker 2:I remember one of the one of the worst days I've ever had, weather wise, was with Dan. We were first out at Paiute. It was like 42 degrees and windy and it was cold, but we, we were first out, we were done in two hours. We got our round in and we were, we were done. You know like get it in and we were, we were done. You know like get it in and then the hails.
Speaker 1:You have the opportunity to do it yeah, yeah, it was nice. Something that's really that really changed me playing in the winter time was, uh, those under armor pants, that are the winter pants that have the, the thermal lining on the inside of them. Oh, my god, though I mean the wind could be blowing like crazy and it just does not penetrate those pants and your legs stay warm, and that's that's for me.
Speaker 2:My feet or legs get cold, then I'm I'm done, but uh, I can handle my, my head and you're on mute, joe, there's probably like a podcast on like tips to get through the winter, like to play golf, because there's there's so many like tips now, like the digital hand warmers that you can charge like, and there's some hard cover, yeah, cart cover, I mean the heaters and the cars I mean there's also companies that are building their, their gear to withstand the cold.
Speaker 1:So I was at it. I was at legacy also. Um and uh, it's getting better, it's getting better. The greens were rolling pretty good courses in good shape. Uh, it wasn't a bad day out there. So and that was Sunday, was absolutely gorgeous Weather, probably the nicest fall day we've had in a long time. So, absolutely gorgeous weather, probably the nicest fall day we've had in a long time.
Speaker 1:So all right all right, robbie, it's. It's like my standards. I like to think I do, but I don't. I think it's. I think he means I think he's.
Speaker 2:I think he means his uh standards are low, like it doesn't really matter at the end of the day, like that's what I would guess.
Speaker 1:Okay, so, uh, our vegas rankings episode. So I want to tell everybody a little bit about this so they understand how we did this. First off, I want to say nobody has paid us for this. Nobody is giving us free tea times for this. Uh, if we love a course, we're gonna say we love it. If we don't like a course, we're gonna say we don't like it. That's it. Um, you know, maybe some courses are gonna say we don't want you to come out here anymore. That's that's the risk we take by putting our opinions out there. But this is this is an opinion, this is our opinion of what we think, and, uh, so take that with a grain of salt.
Speaker 2:You know, this is not I'll also say, like we don't, we don't pay out of town rates, so we are basing this on the rates that we pay. Yes, and uh, I know, uh, mark, it's like I'm saying um posted that thing about Paiute being expensive. Yes, it is expensive, but so are all the other courses.
Speaker 2:I paid $60 one time for Sienna and the other dude paid $180. So it's like we don't know what the out-of-town rates are. So we're basing it on what we pay to play, and the other courses are still marked up considerably of what we pay to play and the other the other courses are still marked up considerably of what we pay. And the best way to go about that is to search for tea time prices through whatever it is golf now or what is that? The tea time app or the tee off app, whatever it is. Do your research before you book and search for the best price. These are the best courses for what we pay in Las Vegas as a resident, and they're still the best courses you can play. So there you go.
Speaker 1:And I mean, if we get to play a course at a discount, we don't consider that, we don't change that, our opinion of it, you know, if we get, you know, every now and then we get free rounds in some places, you know. So we, we look at what the rate is that day and that's that's what we would consider as far as value goes. So, uh, the, the ratings are on a hundred point scale. Uh, we have 70 points for the golf course, which is broken down into design, playability, the practice area, practice area and the conditions. And then the other 30 points are what we call the extras, and that's the vibe of the course, the value for the price. You're playing. That's where that comes in, the value for the price. So, yes, some courses are very expensive, but are you getting value out of it? So that's part of it. And then the pro shop. How good is a pro shop is something we all step on there. So design is worth 20 points, playability is worth 20 points, the practice area is worth 15 points, conditions is worth 15 points, and then vibe is worth 10, value is 10, pro shop is 10. Let's see what matt is hoping. Desert pines tell him not to come everybody, I wouldn't be offended. I wouldn't be offended. So, uh, design is is how. How well we like the design of the golf course, you know. Uh, flat, straight, back and forth, not going to be as highly ranked as something that meanders through canyons and and, uh, you know, has some incredible views, yada, yada yada. Playability uh, jeremy and dan were asking about this and I think joe's very confused about a few of these, but we'll see.
Speaker 1:Uh, playability is is how many options are there for you to play this golf course? So, if this was the only course in town and you had to play it every single day, would you be able to have some variety? Would you be able to change the tees and still play and enjoy a round of golf? Some courses, when you play the tees, you're very limited because there's only 20 yards separating the boxes. Some courses out here with desert golf, they have six or seven tee boxes and they mix it up all the time. Then there's courses like piute that you know. The back tees on the snow course isn't exactly long, so the big hitters may not be as forget as as playable for them. So that's what that is. The practice area is very simple. How good is the practice area.
Speaker 1:And then conditions. I tend to look at this and you guys can let me know your thoughts on this as well. I don't look at it as like the best of the year, but how is it throughout the year, is it you know? We know dormant, dry conditions, we're expecting that, but still, how is the course when that's taking place? We know lush, pure conditions. How is the course when that's taking shape?
Speaker 1:Vibe is when you're there, what's the vibe like? Is it? Is it you know? Do you feel inviting or like do you feel like you belong? Do you feel like everybody's having a good time? Do you feel that there's good energy coming out of the place? Value for price that's an easy breakdown. And then pro shop. I mean if you got two shirts hanging on your the door to the cashier, horrible pro shop. But if you have multiple brands clubs, shoes, towels, great merch, custom head covers, all that kind of stuff to where you can go in there and shop, then you're going to get a higher rating on that. So that's how we did it. We broke it down. Each of us submitted our things. I have a spreadsheet where I printed it all all out. I got all the numbers right here and uh, yeah, we can, we can break it down. I have some banners that will run across and we always start from the bottom and work our way up.
Speaker 2:So I think just so, because last times we've done this they've been super long yeah, so I condense it. Yeah, I think we just go down, we just go quick down to the top 20, and then we could spend a little more time in the 20 to 10 and then yeah, yeah, um, so there's also.
Speaker 1:You'll see on the scrolling the, the little uhPN line on the bottom here coming up a second. If there's an asterisk next to it, that means only two of the four of us played the course. So maybe a little bias on that, because we don't have, you know, at least three or all of us have played it, so that's why you'll see the asterisks on there. And then let's see, there's only two courses that we did not rank, and that is the mojave resort, because dan's the only one that's played it. Uh, joe, jeremy myself have not. And win, uh, joe is the only one who's played.
Speaker 2:Win, jeremy, dan, myself twice, twice Twice and once with VGK. Jesus you played DI, though? Yes, I did.
Speaker 1:More than once too. There you go, all right. So new on the rankings Because the last time we did this was in 2022. We didn't do it last year. Dan came on and we said, oh, let's wait, and instead of doing it every year because it gets kind of redundant, let's do it every two years. That way, we have, uh, unfortunately, some courses that have left us, and uh gives a chance for courses that are maybe going through some changes to to up up their game and see how it's going. Uh, so new on the rankings this year uh, shadow creek makes its debut. Um, laughlin ranch makes its debut. Falcon ridge uh, ranch makes its debut.
Speaker 1:Falcon Ridge, red Rock Country Club and the Summit. So those, they were ranked the first year because it was just Joe and myself, and so if I had played it, I ranked it. But now that we have kind of a majority, you'd have to have on there to get it or not. A majority at least two. Those are on there. Thanks, dan, you brought a lot of that to the table. To have on there to get it or not, a majority at least two. Uh, those are on there. Thanks, dan, you brought a lot of that to the table.
Speaker 2:Uh, the ones we lost royal links yeah, rest in peace, rest in peace rip it's.
Speaker 1:I think about that course all the time I was, we were talking about it the first, the. I love the first hole so much. It is such an awesome hole, that first hole.
Speaker 2:So two is great also, and three was really good and four was really good that all the holes were good.
Speaker 1:It was a great course, uh. And then recently, most recent prim valley uh, so that was, that was a heartbreaker yeah, but so, uh, let's see what's next.
Speaker 3:I have nightmares about Prim still.
Speaker 2:Prim is one of the biggest losses that we faced, I think Silverstone.
Speaker 1:Silverstone in the north was such a great place for so many people to go with as many rotate or courses that they had. There's nothing out there now except Allianti and then you've got to go to Paiute. It was a great value. It's like that Angel Park of the North. It was such good golf there. Steven Jackson said he just paid $100 to play Siena Yikes.
Speaker 2:They've always been on the higher end for the locals, but I think that's like at $90 tops, you know.
Speaker 1:All right, so here let me throw this up here. Here's the bottom of the barrel, Bottom of the barrel. So I'll run these down and everybody can see what it is. Las Vegas Golf Center came down at the bottom.
Speaker 3:Look at that.
Speaker 1:It's because there's no value there. I put a little teaser out earlier. If anybody wants to, you know, try to persuade us that we're wrong. Chime in, let us know. If you think you know we're just off and wrong, say something, say something. So North Las Vegas, part three is at 56. Sunrise Vista Golf Course, 55. Durango Hills 54. Desert Pines 53. Club at Sunrise 52.ines 53. Club at sunrise, 52. Yeah, valley high at 51. That's that, I think for a lot of new listeners is really going to be a surprise.
Speaker 3:Who rated that one the highest though?
Speaker 1:Who rated it the highest? Let's see, let's see. Golf course wise. Yeah, jeremy, jeremy, yeah, 42 out of 70. I was 34. Joe was 37. Dan was 31. I like that place. Do you know what I? I? I think the vibe at bally high is great. Yeah, it's good. The, the patio area, the little bar, the tv is right outside, the little tiki hut for the refreshments, the putting green it's just a practice area. Sucks, but the course itself just gets repetitive.
Speaker 3:I can't get over the price, so that's the only thing.
Speaker 6:Yeah, I don't mind the holes. It's the price, yeah the price, the driving range, yeah yeah, it's bad.
Speaker 1:Uh, arroyo's 50. Falcon ridge 49, that's a new one. Um, and that I had to. I had to let dan know he wasn't aware that they got rid of all the practice area. Yeah, falcon ridge, so it was a little higher and so I made that little little change. Um, see, uh, palm valley, uh comes in at 48. Las Prados comes in at 47. Desert Willow is the executive course 46. Painted Desert 45, which is a pride because I mean for a couple years there Painted Desert was at the bottom like consistently. Yeah. Yeah, eagle Crest is another executive course, out in Summerlin area, boulder City, muni, which I think that could be higher. Stallion Mountain, las Vegas, muni, and that's what did we end it on? 40? Boulder City, muni, 42, stallion Mountain and yeah, 41, las Vegas Muni.
Speaker 2:All right, all right for for people chiming in, I think. I think um, a lot of these courses are great in aspects and they fail in a lot of aspects. You know, like stevie jack said, arroyo at 50, arroyo was usually in good shape, but the layout is absolutely horrendous. Cliff says stallions, a little low, too great course, great practice, great practice facility, great price.
Speaker 1:You could die going to the range at Arroyo. You could literally die. That's true.
Speaker 2:Actually I do think Stallion is a little low actually.
Speaker 1:They could provide helmets when you go to the range at Arroyo and also the vibe they should when you go to the range at Arroyo.
Speaker 2:It's risky and also the vibe Like if you cross over the hidden line.
Speaker 6:You are not welcome.
Speaker 4:Dude, the brown coats come for you.
Speaker 1:You'll get out of here now, don't be long.
Speaker 2:Yeah, Coach said driving past the private part is always uncomfortable. It literally always is. Oh it's so bad like an outsider. You feel like you don't belong there, and that's it's bad yeah, oh, and god forbid, man.
Speaker 1:I, when we were, when julian and I had our fitting out there, there was a group that came around the wrong way and they were looking for the first hole and the guy's like, where are you supposed to be? Yeah, uh, hey, robbie's right, though stallion is overrated. Never seen it in good condition, that's true. It's been a very long time since I've seen that course in like good condition from top to bottom I like cyan for you is trash. Oh, love in the comments. Thanks everybody thanks everybody all right.
Speaker 1:So that is uh 57 through 41 never seen robbie in good condition that's hilarious. Uh, steven jackson, I agree. Last couple times I played, a roy with a star on the range has yelled at me for still being on the range. 20 minutes for my tea time, then I go sit in the first tee behind two groups yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, well, pie, you just kind of like that too.
Speaker 2:They get a little aggressive they do, you know, yeah, but their, their layout is not like discombobulating oh, no, no, no, no, it's just that's.
Speaker 1:That's part of the vibe that you know I mean royal.
Speaker 2:You're taking a real estate tour through fucking red rock country club trying to be like oh, I wish I had money to buy that house.
Speaker 1:You know kind of thing all right, let's get to the next one. So this is going to be 40 through 21. Uh, let's bring it up, show it. Here we go. Uh, casablanca comes in at number 40. Wild horse at 39, red rock country club at 38. Aliante at 37. Oasis at 36, angel park cloud nine at 35. Thank you, joe. 34 is chimera 33 highland falls legacy 31 bears best.
Speaker 1:30, reflection bay, 29, sienna, 28 roads ranch, 27, revere the concord course, 26, canyon gate, 25, angel park, palm. 24, wolf creek we'll have some hate for that 23, spanish Trails Country Club, spanish Trail Country Club, 22, las Vegas National and 21, revered Lexi, sexy Lexi, almost cracking the top 20.
Speaker 3:Okay, I've got one in there I want to discuss. I'm surprised it's that high, honestly Wild Horse and I know why. But I just don't I'm I tried liking wild horse and I get the history for joe and stuff and I just don't like that place where was wild horse? 39 oh, there, I think there's.
Speaker 2:I think there's one that's even more controversial, in my opinion. But well, I wild, I mean 39, it's not.
Speaker 1:I don't think that's high what are you thinking, joe?
Speaker 2:uh, yeah, boyd says wild horse thumbs down. I you know there is a lot of history out there. I think it's it's a very fun golf course. Yeah, they have. They have tough times out there and if you understood what they do out there and what they have to go through to get get that course in great shape and do what they got to do, that's one of the things that I think it gets really shit on is because the condition does, but they have they have no money.
Speaker 1:They have no money yeah, and it's so.
Speaker 2:It's so much fun. I especially in the winter that that ball bounces around and people are going to think it's going to, it's unfair and this and that, and I just think it's. I think it's fun, I think it's a place where you can just go and bullshit and just have a good time. That that's how I feel about wild horse and it's also where I cut my teeth playing golf and I love that place. But, um, for me, I I feel like national should be in the top 20. And it's $22.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's right there, it's close.
Speaker 2:That's still like $60 to play there, right $60?.
Speaker 1:No, it's the weekends and Raider games. It's kind of gone up a little bit.
Speaker 6:So pricey any as high as it is. Oh, wow, yeah, same. That was going to be the one I was going to gripe on too was Sienna Sienna.
Speaker 1:Sienna is a great golf course, I think that's a fun golf course, I think, uh with sienna 29.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I, I think it's better than arroyo. For sure I don't necessarily lower on that list.
Speaker 6:I don't necessarily think that it's a better golf course than um, well, I guess if you go layout wise, but I don't think sienna's better golf course than reflection bay. I mean reflection bays greens have been really shitty the last couple years, true, but as far as just going straight up, yeah, I would play reflection bay every day over sienna it's also like.
Speaker 2:Right in front of it is rhodes ranch and it's a better golf course than rhodes, but Rhodes Ranch is usually in better shape with greener conditions.
Speaker 3:I think we'll see reflection moving up next time we do this.
Speaker 1:Dan, you rated it the lowest out of us I know I did.
Speaker 6:I had such a horrible time last time because the greens were absolute trash. The range freaking sucks.
Speaker 1:You know the pricing of it's ridiculous yeah, I had it at 49, joe headed at 50. Jeremy had it at 54 and dan had it at 30.
Speaker 2:oh, that's why, when you don't, just for shit's sake what did Dan have, wild horse at compared to reflection bay?
Speaker 6:oh, I might have fucked that one up. I'm not going to lie about that, uh, oh would have, uh oh where's that?
Speaker 1:where's that? Where's that? Dan had wild horse at 33? Oh, by 3 points yeah, so you have wild horse is a better course than reflection what did we have?
Speaker 3:what did all?
Speaker 6:of us have at wild horse before we do that.
Speaker 2:Robbie asked if there's customer service rating. So didn't we last time, didn't we? Didn't we post uh? A spot where they can make their own ratings um or something like that. No, I think if we can do that somehow. That'd be cool, like for listeners I would.
Speaker 1:I would love to be able to do that If anybody is a website designer or you know exactly.
Speaker 2:That's.
Speaker 3:Robbie, I'll build something for that.
Speaker 1:I would love to where people could go in and just drag and drop and then submit.
Speaker 3:I think that would be awesome. Coming to a website near you.
Speaker 1:So we did staff one time and it was just the the thing that, like joe, joe likes to show up five minutes before the tea time, so we're waiting for him, so he doesn't see the starter, and then he bails from the parking lot like, hops off the cart next to his car so he doesn't see the guest services people at all. Um, so it's hard for him to rate this stuff.
Speaker 2:So I mean, we did food also before, we did like 19th hole.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and Joe never sticks around and hangs out with anybody, so it was hard for that.
Speaker 2:I do when I can. I do when I can.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I got my burger ratings coming.
Speaker 2:Burger ratings are coming Bacon cheeseburger.
Speaker 1:Which I will say the SoHi cheeseburger. Holy crap, amazing.
Speaker 6:Better than Coyote Springs. Yeah, yeah, okay.
Speaker 1:Yeah, cliff Reflection Greens are brutal right now. See that place any year. Yeah, yeah, we've been saying that for a year.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's going to take some time.
Speaker 1:Any other hot takes on that. So Robbie was saying Spanish and Wolf not getting love. Wolf's a hard sell man. The value, I think, is what really knocks it down. On the overall, the design is okay, it's a little quirky, but I think when they're charging as much as they charge for a course that doesn't have a legit range is way overpriced in my opinion and is a little arcade golf it's. I don't know, I don't know. Some people love that shit, some people absolutely love it. You know it's a destination place, um, so, uh, a lot of people see past that. But it being for us, around here we've got options and, uh, if I'm gonna spend that money, I'm playing, I'll do the cliff route. I'm playing four times at coyote springs and uh not going there at all.
Speaker 1:Yeah, all right, let's see how far are we. 32 minutes in all. Right, let's do our quick commercial break and uh, then we will be right back.
Speaker 5:There's something that binds us all the joy of connecting on and off the course. Get there the way a little heckle can be just the push you need. Get there A love language marked by admiration and respect. We're all bound by two words said by golfers worldwide Get there, visit us at your local Las Vegas golf superstore or shop online at worldwide golfcom. Worldwide. Get there.
Speaker 1:And go trade in some stuff and get some new stuff.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Like the municipal golf bands, cause they're amazing. Hey, I've got a. Maddie G's got a weather update for us for the VGN finals this weekend, so do not let me forget to to throw that out there. Um, all right, so we'll go 20, 20 to 11 on this one. And, uh sorry, here we go. We got mountain falls coming in number 20, anthem country clubem Country Club coming in at 19. Angel Park at 18. That's the mountain course. 17 is Conestoga. I'll explain. The 17 at win again In a second Dragon Ridge, is 16. Las Vegas Country Club is 15. Rio Seco 14. Tpc Vegas 13. Boulder Creek 12. And TPC Summerlin at number 11. So I'm sure there's probably going to be.
Speaker 6:Oh, this curve convinced me I'm going to get a new putter before Sunday.
Speaker 1:I will get there. There you go, there you go. All right, so the 17, conestoga 17 win, that's wins ranking from Joe, where it would be in there. So I just threw that in there, just just so everybody could see where it's at, because I I've played it twice, so yeah, so counts two people summit is not a top ten, all right. Well, there's two people on here that have played summit. Dan joe cliff is calling you out yeah, I yeah.
Speaker 2:Well, we could talk about when we get there, but yeah yeah yeah, I, I would love to see. I would love to see. No, we're, we're 20 to 11.
Speaker 1:oh yeah, cliff, haven't even seen it yet. What are you talking? Talking about yeah.
Speaker 6:Well, he's just doing it. Yeah, he's just doing it. He hasn't seen Summit yet.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah yeah, proactive Calm down, it's coming. It's coming. I thought it was in this section there.
Speaker 2:Look, before we even do this, I'd rather play LVCC all day over Summit personally away, but we we can talk about that when we get there, um boulder creek, outside of top 10.
Speaker 1:Yep, yeah, just briefly. Yeah, yeah, but it's, I mean it's, it is up there, it's. You know it's. That is the first course that hit the 80 points on this list. Everything else has been less than 80, uh, so boulder creek is 80 and then tbPC Summerlin is 80.5. So it's just 0.5 points, you know, and that's the average over the four of us. So it's, it's a small window, it's. It's not a huge gap in in reaching the top 10 there, and the top 10 course is an 80.5 also.
Speaker 2:So there it's, it's really close and when you get down to the nitty-gritty like this, it's gonna happen yeah, and what I really hate about, um, like, what we have to do in these spots is like some of these courses are unattainable for people and it it kind of hinders the score a bit and it's like, how do you even judge that, like? Because you can't just go play lvcc, you can't just go play summit, you can't just go play tbc summerland, and you know we, that's what that's like when we're, when we're doing these scores. That's what's really hard for me, because how do you judge the value?
Speaker 1:and it's the private. Ones are hard to judge and and so that's why I try to look at, you know it, it's private for a reason. You know, a private country club is very different than a private one. Of course, you've got a, you know, select member base and there's typically a lot more money involved and a little, you know, there's more variety as far as what the members are offered, as far as restaurants, uh, workout facilities greenlee in the house.
Speaker 1:Shout out eric greenlee so you know it's, it's the the value for what we see going there and playing the course may not be the value that the members get. You know, like I know cyrus is a member of tbc summerland. He takes full advantage of the the exercise facility there because it's it's outstanding. You know, like, uh, I know Cyrus is a member of TBC Summerlin. He takes full advantage of the the exercise facility there Cause it's it's outstanding. You know, and uh they have he can come practice anytime he wants at an amazing practice facility. So that that has a lot of you know, change to to how you see value. So so when we go, I look at how much am I paying? How much am I paying to play a private course and get a little bit of that private experience? And I think some places do it better than others.
Speaker 5:Love the vibe in the service. The course itself is boring.
Speaker 2:Oh we'll get there. The course is easy.
Speaker 1:Anthem is so underratedrated. It is a very good golf course.
Speaker 2:Dan didn't like anthem as much yeah, I'm not a huge fan, but again, that's just for me with anthem is I feel like I can play the same golf course up the street and a little, a little less better conditions. That's where it's hard for me and that's that's the thing with playing all these golf courses in town. It's like like it's almost the same, like they're like I can picture some of the holes at anthem at revere, and it's like why, why would I pay for the private course when I can play almost the exact combination of holes down the street, seeing that's coming, that's.
Speaker 1:That's coming just from the golfer's perspective, though yeah, that's that's where I think the, like I was saying earlier, the, the the member benefits highly outweigh, being a member versus being a member at revere and none of us are a member anywhere, so we're outside looking at, but yeah uh.
Speaker 1:So yeah, anthem. I had anthem at 58, uh, joe had it at 54 and dan had it at 49 on the on the course side of it, so uh, and then I had it at 16, joe had it at 22, dan had it at 21, for a total of 73.3. I mean, some of these are really. I should have put the numbers on there so you guys could see what the difference is in the points. So Anthem Country Club was 73.3, angel Park Mountain is 74.2, conestoga is 75, dragon Ridge is 76.5, lvcc is 77. Haven't gotten there yet, but I feel what I feel like shadow is lame Holes. Look the same to me. So I understand what you're saying.
Speaker 2:Soul golf, soul golf, yeesh.
Speaker 1:I feel that hard for me not to feel like it should be there. Oh sorry, we're oh sorry we're battling, we're battling we're battling, okay, um anything else stand out from that one I think mountain falls value robbie with his comment uh, anthem is so underrated I talked about it, but what do you think is so underrated about it?
Speaker 2:see, if you can uh change our opinion, I'd love to hear what you think I think on this, on this list, uh, I I feel like matt would probably disagree. Rio seco, that would probably be top 10 for him, but I think, if you're, if you're looking for value in this list, it is Mountain Falls. They charge $60. It's always in good shape.
Speaker 1:That's why it's ahead of a lot of those other ones.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the front nine is a little different from the back nine, but value-wise you can't go wrong with Mountain Falls. It's 40 minutes from Vegas. That's where I would go if you were coming to Vegas. That's a steal. I'll just throw that out there.
Speaker 1:It is a steal. Yeah, rio Seco. I've loved Rio Seco for a long time. I love the layout. I love the layout. I love the course. I think when they redid the practice area and put the putting green up there by the first tee I think that's amazing they got the two chipping greens down below, which is kind of a little annoying that you can't.
Speaker 2:Yeah, they're like running away from you. That's why a little low for me.
Speaker 1:But, still just an amazing amazing little practice area they got there did we already mention angel palm? Yeah, that was. Palm was number 25, mr jackson. Yeah, better not be in the top 50.
Speaker 2:Somebody doesn't like the palm course speaking of angel park, angel park mountain is at 18. I think it's a better golf course, I think it's the shop makers course out of the two, and I think that's why we rated it a little higher than palm. Um, greens are a little nastier out there. Shout out garden.
Speaker 1:Um yeah mountain was 18 and Palm was 25.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I think Mountain's a better golf course. I think Mountain should be ahead of Palm for sure.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it is, and well-deserved. I think it's a much more challenging golf course, but I think what elevates the Palm course is the practice facility, the value and the vibe of the place because they all have the same practice facility, I know, but I'm saying that's why it brings it up, because it's that that has a good quality that enhances the golf course.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, all right, robbie, I think anthem is top 10. Every hole is a good hole, perfect conditions, played it for 100 guest easily a better value than the 90, 20, 90 to 120 for its neighbors robbie, what's your member rate?
Speaker 2:what's your member uh dues?
Speaker 1:he said he played a guest rate.
Speaker 2:Guest rate all right, I know, but that's the thing. That's where. That's what I was saying. Like, how do you justify that?
Speaker 2:like, you don't get that invite all the time no so it's like, yes, it's worth that all day, but like you're not a member. So how do you, if you were a member, would it justify your whatever 50 000 initiation in 25, 3500 monthly dues? Does it just? And that's how I try and look at it when we're doing these scores, it's like we know some of the rates in town to join these clubs and it's like I try and like that's, that's what. That's the hardest part of this whole list.
Speaker 1:Loves that thing about mountains, love it. Just hate how fast they always have their greens. Steven Jackson said 40k initiation, 1100 a month equity membership is that for anthem, or was that spanish? I know he was a member out there, young executive, when I reached out. Oh yeah, once you hit my age or our ages, there's no deals yeah, we're all.
Speaker 3:That's 30, it was so funny.
Speaker 1:At one of the, the snga board meetings I I asked about that. I was like why? Why is it when the you get to, you know, 40, 35, 40, 45, there's no break on memberships. We're we, we golf more and they're like because you have money.
Speaker 2:So you know, since, since we're on this topic, like, what would it take for you to join a private club? I know we all like the variances and golf courses. We like to play different places what would it take for you to join? Is it the money? Is it the vicinity?
Speaker 6:More income.
Speaker 2:Yeah, definitely more income.
Speaker 1:But I think if you had the money and you played every day, like you went out and walked nine holes every day, or that was part of your routine to play 18 holes and you don't have to worry about crowds, you don't have to worry about booking tee times, you don't have to worry about not having you have a locker for your stuff. You know everybody. I mean there's definitely benefits to having a membership. I just think the memberships are so high here.
Speaker 2:It makes it, you know, I think for me, like just to say like for me, I think it would take me like living very close to the golf course, like I would have to be able to go to work and stop on my way home or live on the golf course. And Cliff, yeah, there is shut out breakfast ball golf blog. Go check them out. Cliff was a member at South Shore and he got a really good deal. So he was there for 10 months, something like that, cliff, I think. But for me to do it now because I love variety, like I don't want to play the same golf course all the time unless the playability is exceptional and the pins are, can be in different places and you can play different teas I'd have to live on the golf course or within a mile If he makes a good point here, oh Cliff.
Speaker 1:Here Private is more about access to the other members instead of the course. That's a good point here, oh Cliff. Here Private is more about access to the other members instead of the course. That's a crazy good networking.
Speaker 4:Totally.
Speaker 1:Rob says he needs FU money, I would casually play around at a country club. I would enjoy the amenities and practice facilities much as the course Yep, to steal Matt's thing, which one of you are playing, if offered, and I know ratings are personal and subjective, but if you're playing private versus public there's more variables, that's yeah, so as robbie's saying that you know, if someone offers you a free round and you're, and it's between, you know, anthem, country club and uh, so high, which one are you going to?
Speaker 1:play, you know so I yeah so high all day long but uh anthem or uh wild horse anthem wild horse yeah yeah, wow, yeah.
Speaker 2:You don't like anthem, do you, dan? You're right out there uh, yeah, so then you get into the nitty-gritty like anthem or dragon ridge, like that could. That's like a 50, 50 like. It's like how many times they can you know?
Speaker 1:yeah, so hard about it man, uh, steven says when he was at spanish, initiation was a thousand and uh, my dues were 450 a month. Then they added cart fees and it really upset up the guest fees. Yeah, 450 a month that's that's not a bad deal.
Speaker 2:450 no, that's great. That's Especially if you live near a pie.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah. So all right, let's get into the first of the top 10. Let's see, here We'll do it like this Boom 10 comes in the summit Nine Laughlin Ranch, Eight South Shore, Seven Coyote Springs and six is Cascadacada dang.
Speaker 6:All the paits are up there.
Speaker 3:Sorry, always always, always always, always, always is laughlin ranch really that good top ten. It's really good, yeah, I was.
Speaker 6:I was surprised to see that there too, it's, it's really good we got to get out there, jay, wow, I mean it's a better.
Speaker 2:It's a. It's a better lexington, like it's a. It's a faster, firmer lexington. Um, I just thought there was a lot of really cool nuances about the place it was.
Speaker 1:the clubhouse was really well done.
Speaker 2:All the copper yeah.
Speaker 1:The 18th hole was a fantastic finishing hole that you got to under the wooden bridges and the railroads and the cave and the mine and the 20 foot tall flag and it was just.
Speaker 2:There was a little squirrely on the layout at times. Like a little squirrely on the layout.
Speaker 6:But great, golf course, I like Boyd's response.
Speaker 1:Yeah, field trip again. Yeah, he was with us.
Speaker 4:One above that Boyd can you agree?
Speaker 1:Yeah, well, it's still the area.
Speaker 6:It's out of state.
Speaker 2:But still it's worthy, Attainable in a day.
Speaker 1:You can drive it and play it yeah like we did. I want to go play it. It's really good. Dan hasn't played south shore yet, uh, but I don't think he would disagree with any of our ratings on that. Coyote springs uh, easily could be in the top five. Let's see coyote springs as at 82.8 uh. Number five is 85.3, so it's it's not that far off, um. I rated it at 60 joe 64, jeremy 64 dan 57 uh, so 61.3 average out of 70 coyote springs okay yeah coyote springs, yeah so cliff still hates uh summit at 10.
Speaker 2:So um me and me and um dan are the only ones that played it. What's what's your gripes about? Or why did you rate it? Why did you rate it as high as you did, dan? Because that I mean well, most people will never see this golf course. Unfortunately you. This is true.
Speaker 6:And one thing too that I still didn't get to see is the new clubhouse. So it could even be even higher, but when I first played it it was newly opened, so it was just tits. Everything was perfect. The focus was on the customer service because there was no houses around, there was nothing there. So when we first got there, I mean it was mimosas and champagne and shit at the backdrop, and then just to see the range how beautiful the range was, I mean white sand bunkers in the range uh, the greens were absolutely perfect. I mean, as soon as we walked in, it was like it was like I was a member, like I had like two or three people just like waiting for my, for my command to do something, and then we go and play the golf course, which is pretty much.
Speaker 2:Can you pull up our rankings on that one?
Speaker 6:I'm just curious which cliff is right. The golf course was easy. It's not difficult at all. I shot even my very first time looking at it, but it was pristine, the fucking rough was perfect and there's not one blade of grass longer than the other. It was. Conditions were amazing, and it and also too. At the time they were still doing the tequila shots on the t so you know just overall experience that I had there.
Speaker 6:just it blew me away and, like you said, it's just one of those courses where you don't really get a whole lot of access to it. So my one judgment of this golf course is based on this one experience and for me it's. It was a top 10 in Vegas experience I've ever had on a golf course. So yeah, that's why I, that's why I have an eye.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so Dan gave the design 14 out of 20. He gave playability. Let's see Where's he at 15 out of 20. He had the practice area and the conditions perfect at 15 and 15. See, joe had a design at 15, playability at 20. Practice area, 15, conditions 15 or 14 conditions 15.
Speaker 2:so yeah that I mean like the design isn't great. I mean obviously it's not a perfect 10 out of 10, like I agree. I think where where summit really shines is in the, like Dan said, I felt like a member. I didn't feel out of place. It's such a high-end place that you're scared to go there because it's like Mark Wahlberg and all these people with a shit ton of money.
Speaker 1:Municipal shoes and pants.
Speaker 2:Yeah, the pro shop was shit. The pro shop sucked, but anyway, um, you know, I literally felt like I belonged there and that's what they did, like we were on the range, perfect, perfect practice area. I mean conditions, impeccable. And it's like, hey, do you, are you hungry, do you want this? And it's just like you make me. They made you feel like. They make you feel like a king out there, whether you're a member or not, and uh, the conditions are impeccable. I don't, I mean the.
Speaker 2:The best conditions I feel like I've ever played was at Great Waters and Summit was right there and I played it in the dead heat of summer. The golf course is Tom Fazio in the mountains, nothing special, it's Tom Fazio, you can tell it's Fazio, it is what it is. But yeah, I think it shines way higher in the. You know the amenities and like we saw Colombo and Cow was sitting there and it's like you can't help but like to feel like you're a part of something when you're there. So it was really cool. It's not a great golf course, like it's it like I'd rather play if I was. You know conditions. If the conditions were equal and that neither of them were private, I'd probably rather play prim lake for sure I think this condition is the hunter golf course yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2:I think I think, I think, I think prim lakes course was like way funner than summit, you know, but it's, it's shot, yeah I can agree with that.
Speaker 6:I think the layout at Prim Lakes was sick, bro, and I really do.
Speaker 2:It was almost fun.
Speaker 1:Rest in peace. Robbie said he hasn't played Cascada yet, or Rob, sorry, hasn't played Cascada yet, struggled with the price point and haven't been able to justify it. That's why you gotta get those special rates. That's what.
Speaker 6:Rob was saying Rob, you've got to do the SNGA events out of Cascada because they're two-day events for like $250. You're not going to beat that.
Speaker 3:Plus you get like a $75 practice round or $100 practice round or something.
Speaker 1:Totally worth it. Do the SNGA event. I highly recommend that there's two of them now one in the summer, one winter.
Speaker 2:yep, yep uh, joe, you should have said hello to my homie while you were there at summit. Okay, sorry, I saw ta3. I, I saw ta3 there and I texted eric and I was eric. Do you really know him? Should I go say hi?
Speaker 1:I will also play casascada one day.
Speaker 6:Everybody needs to play Cascada. Cascada's sick. It's so good. Best clubhouse Might be the best clubhouse I've ever been in.
Speaker 2:It's so good.
Speaker 1:Cascada. I had a 62, joe 59, jeremy, 67, dan 59, for a total of 84.0.
Speaker 6:I hardly gave out max scores.
Speaker 4:You're approved.
Speaker 6:I was stingy with my shit.
Speaker 1:You were stingy.
Speaker 6:Dan has seen some places man Hell yeah, I think that's why Cliff same thing. He's like those courses are trash because Cliff's playing the sickest. That's the thing. I think that's why Cliff like you know, same thing. He's like oh, that's, courses are trash because close by the sickest courses in the country.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so here's this is a, so my rankings all the yellows are maximum scores. So you know, I I tend to give out more than anybody else and more than anybody else. Um and uh, let's see.
Speaker 6:Uh, joe, he had a few on there, let's see, jeremy, this will be funny when you see dance, yeah, and then here's dance and these are eight.
Speaker 1:That's as high as he gave. That was an eight. Where it's, it's out of out of ten.
Speaker 2:So I will say it's so funny. Like we live in the desert, right, we're not. It's not, we're not built for golf. Like Las Vegas Valley is not a golf place. Like you know, we're thinking fucking. You know Alabama or Georgia, but like, as as you travel and you see other places like Jeremy got to go see Band of Dunes this year it's like the grading scale changes because you've seen high-level golf course.
Speaker 1:It'll change you.
Speaker 2:It definitely does, because as you travel and get out there, it definitely does, because you know, as you travel and get out there, I mean, if, if you've only played golf in vegas, like there is a world beyond this place that you have not seen and as you venture, it will change your mind of your locale, if you will speaking of the rankings, did you guys see the little top 100s that came out?
Speaker 6:yes yeah, debuted at 51 wow, that's.
Speaker 2:I feel that's pretty strong bro broom sedge was ahead of that, I think was it correct? I think so. I think, uh, one of those in aiken was a little higher, so I don't know which one, or maybe maybe it was tree farm, but you know, uh, no, no, that's yeah, that was like 47 see, uh, I think 19 I fell.
Speaker 1:I fell a little bit yeah all right, do you want to do maddie g weather and then do the top five, or do you want to do top five, then maddie g weather?
Speaker 2:I think we do. I think we finish it out with the rankings and then we can talk uh, we can do maddie g and talk vgn finals, all right all right, I like it, I like it.
Speaker 1:So here we go. There is the top five. Let me close that one off number five piute sun, number four, piute snow, number three, shadow creek, and then so high at number one. So congratulations to southern highlands. You are the number one golf course on the 2024 Chasing Daylight podcast Vegas rankings. And yeah, I'm thinking about maybe reaching out to our friends that do the VGN trophies, the wood ones, and see if maybe we can create something that they'll display in the shop. I think that'd be awesome. Oh, yeah, they probably go.
Speaker 6:No, no, I could play every day same cliff. That's my favorite corset, yeah yeah, mine as well. Play it there every single day, yeah, so I mean I could play any of those that probably get every day like you was like 50 50, 54 there birdie I it.
Speaker 2:The thing is, uh I, what was last year's uh top? Was it piu last? Time, I think so let's see in the rankings, because, um, where'd it go? I mean, pieute's been up there every time Southern Highlands was number one in 2022.
Speaker 1:Then Paiute Snow was one in 2020 and 2021.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 1:So yeah, Sohi got the top spot because that was the first time we had Jeremy on and we had a little bit better ranking system.
Speaker 2:I will say for everybody listening you can't just go play Southern Highlands. It's private, great golf course, incredible amenities. You can't just go play there. Shadow Creek, you can't just go play there, like you have to like few executives.
Speaker 1:Yeah, that's not even worth going on the rankings.
Speaker 2:But, like I, you, if you're coming into town as a out-of-state resident, you're gonna pay 180 for sienna or whatever it is, and if piute is at 240, it is worth that extra 50, because you cannot go wrong with piute. Conditions are always impeccable. Always food's great. Uh, outside services are fantastic. Can't go wrong with any of those courses. Uh, it's practice facilities are in practice facilities. I mean, coming from outside of Vegas, that's the place you need to go. I mean you can't beat Paiute.
Speaker 1:No, not at all One second, Rob. I'm working on it. I will have it here in just one second.
Speaker 6:No houses. Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 2:Yeah, no houses, yeah true.
Speaker 3:I have a slight complaint. It's, yeah, true, I have a slight complaint. I have a slight complaint about Paiute, though.
Speaker 1:Uh-oh, let's hear it.
Speaker 3:It's nothing that can be done. It's just sometimes it feels like every hole feels the same, or like there's the same holes on all three courses, which it is what it is, but I wish that it felt different. At times I think more. I'm trying to think which like sun, a lot of that blends in together. Which sun is an incredible course. I love that. I think it's probably the hardest, in my opinion, um, but sometimes it just feels like I'm looking at the same hole like three or four times.
Speaker 6:Like one on snow and two on wolf, fucking same exact hole. Slight dog leg left with a bunker. Left bunker through the fairway.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 6:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Everything else makes up for it, it's just I get that I could see that, but I think I think they all have different characteristics. I think, oh, yeah, I could see that, but I think I think they all have different characteristics. I think Wolf is more built into the berms and the way the dirt was moved, so it's more of a, you know, it's built down. I think sun has way more elevation, like on sun you could see way more holes, like I think it's on what is that? Nine or something.
Speaker 2:You could see like five different flags, which I think it's so cool just to see like oh, that's four, that's two, that's one, and snow is just like out there by itself with the mountain range, and it's just like you're in this pocket and you can't really see wolf. You can see some parts of snow or or sun, but I feel like I think snow is like built into its own like area and it's like this is where it is and that's. I feel like that might be why it's the one in the middle, because it's it's the middle one, you know. And then you got you got sun over here, built up a little bit, and then you got you got wolf over here, the built into the dune, so you can't see it and I think that's why snow shines so much, because it's it's the one that faces. I don't know the mountain range, but it faces that mountain and I think it was built. It was a sheep mountain.
Speaker 3:Sheep range, that mountain, and I think it was cheap, cheap range. Yeah, yeah, so an identity. Yeah, I think wolf has some features, like, of course, the island green, and but I think snow is just more different, which I think is why it stands out for me.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, it's sun it's great the sun can get a little, a little flat, I guess, is where where I look at it, it seems it doesn't seem like you're meandering through the terrain as much on sun as you do on snow I think sun has the most like elevation changes on boxes and greens, though I think I think where I think sun is the easiest tee time to get, and I feel like if I asked you how many times you've played sun compared to the other ones, you'd probably say you played sun the most because it's the easiest tea time to get. And that's where that comes from, because I played sun way more than any of them, because it is easiest tea time to get. Wolf is the hardest, let me see, because everybody wants to play Wolf.
Speaker 3:I've just played Wolf. Like the last five times have been a Wolf.
Speaker 2:I've played Wolf like three times. I've played Sun probably 15 times. I've played Snow maybe like eight. I think Sun is the one that is forgotten because it's off to the side. That's our sun, bro. Go play with our sun, let's see, of course, I've played Snow the most. Bad, no ditty. I've played this. I've played snow the most bad. No diddy, no diddy. But I do feel like. I feel like sun's the easiest tea time to get how? And do you have the differentials of wolf compared to?
Speaker 1:snow, sun.
Speaker 2:How we rated him no, like how many times you've played it, because I know I know 100.
Speaker 1:I played son the most I it, it would be I have to look at the c?
Speaker 2:um. I know for sure I've played son the most I've it's it's snow son then wolf yeah, wolf wolf.
Speaker 2:I've played maybe three or four times yeah, I don't, I. I like the snow, I like the snow course, so much I, yeah, I try, I try to get out there as much as often as I can but I feel like people coming into vegas they want to play wolf because of the, the island green, and then they hear snows with the you know 16's great, great hole, picturesque hole, that's a signature hole, and then I just feel like people forget about sun. I think.
Speaker 1:I think sun's underrated vic was commenting on instagram. I didn't. Joe normally keeps up with that stuff, but he's slacked tonight, so uh the difference between one and two was 0.3. Southern Highlands was 89.3. Shadow Creek 89.0. But Shadow has the little asterisk because only Dan and I have played it. But yeah, I mean it's close.
Speaker 2:It's close. Stevie Jack said always windy at Paiute, throw-up face. And then Chris Rez said said win or no, win doesn't matter. Win makes you a better player. If you can play and win more often, it makes you a better player, no doubt about it. So playing win. When you can, don't go home and cry into your hole tpc sunrise yeah, tp Sunrise, that's Club at Sunrise that's there we go 52 52 great
Speaker 1:greens great greens so Greenlee's asking our thoughts on Shadow. Dan, do you want to go first?
Speaker 6:in relative terms. That's shadow to me repetitive. Curious if you guys thoughts on shadow creek. Um, it's been a long time since I played shadow. It was easily 10, 12 years ago.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's 2014, for 2015 for me, but I've been out there a bunch for other events, so it was a long time ago, um, but I do remember.
Speaker 6:I don't really recall a whole lot of repetitiveness, um, I think I think maybe the fact that you can't see other holes and you're always kind of like you know, you're the fact that the next hole is blind, like maybe that can be a little repetitive, but when I played it it was. I mean, it's freaking Shadow Creek, it's. There's a reason why it's always you know it was in the top 100. It's the courses. It's awesome, it's always in great, great shape. When I played it, there's damn, there's freaking peacocks on the golf course and shit. You know, like, where do you see that at? And uh, and it's just, it's just one of those. It's a bucket list course. So, yeah, I don't feel like it's repetitive, um, but then again, I've only played it once, uh, but uh, but yeah it it's, it's in the top five courses I've ever played. I've played some nice tracks and it's, it's definitely in my top five, but um I wouldn't, but yeah, I don't I don't think I say I'll interject.
Speaker 2:I'll interject yeah quick.
Speaker 2:I think I haven't played it. I've been there. I haven't played it, but I think I you, for those that have listened to the podcast for a long time you know we're on episode 300 and I I was a big tom fazio fan and I think tom fazio can get repetitive. So you know, a fazio hole, like it's, it's hard to distinguish other architects from holes, but like you know, when it's a fazio hole and I think I think that could be where it comes from, because fazio does what fazio does and you know it's extravagant and every hole is extravagant and yeah there's a creek here and there wasn't a creek here when it's they started.
Speaker 2:And there's a rock wall here because fazio was given a lot of money to do what he wanted to do, but for the sheer amazingness of what they created in a flat desert out there. It's incredible.
Speaker 1:Yeah, when Joe and I were out there following the LPGA on the match play thing, we were walking along to the two tee box to two fairway. It drops like 40 feet down and it's it's insane, cause you're standing here and you look to your right and there's this you know, bottom of the of the two fairway and you look to your left and it's way up the hill is the one fairway and it's just like this was flat desert. How the hell did they do this? It's, it is unbelievable and I think that's part of the experience that you have to kind of go in there and and have an understanding that this thing was like lifted out of heaven and placed in North Las Vegas. It is.
Speaker 1:It is so unique and so just out of place and when you go there, you don't feel like you are in vegas. You know when you go to bandon, you're in oregon. You know when you go to the, the carolinas and play pine earths and those, you're in the carolinas. You go to florida you're sweating, you're humid, you're in florida. You got palm trees. This, this place, is magical because it should not exist where it does.
Speaker 2:Well, that's what Steve Wynn said he wanted. He said he wants Fazio to transport them to different areas, and I think I read something somewhere is Fazio wanted to bring people to North Carolina in the middle of the desert in North Las Vegas, which is, I mean, I don't think North Carolina has that many drastic dips and valleys, but you do feel like you're somewhere else.
Speaker 2:You know, with the you know and the, I mean I want to play it. I haven't played it and I hope to. I've walked it, so I'm fortunate enough to be on those grounds and I've seen it, but yeah, I can see where you're coming from, though, eric, I definitely can see where you're coming from.
Speaker 1:As a local who grew up here, been here my whole life. We have things that point us so we know where we're at the stratosphere. We know where the stratosphere is. You that point us, so we know where we're at the stratosphere. We know where the stratosphere is. You see the stratosphere, you know where you are. And then we've got our mountain ranges because we're in a valley. So it's really easy. It's not like Manhattan. You pop out the subway, look up, you have no idea where the hell you are. Here we've got signal points that let us know where we're at. But when you're out there it doesn't even matter. You don't care where you're at because of what's in front of you, the, the course. The design is is a fantastic design. It's immaculate from the moment you get on the property to the moment you leave.
Speaker 4:Um the.
Speaker 1:The clubhouse is very unique it's. It's really cool walking through there and seeing some of the lockers that are in there. The caddy that we had when we played was over the top amazing. I know from people that I know that have played it. The caddies are on it. They really enheighten that experience and it's crazy over the top and it's what you're paying for. So, yes, it's stupid expensive and should golf be that expensive? Absolutely not. But if you're going to pay that money, you want to be blown the fuck away and you will be at Shadow Creek in my opinion.
Speaker 2:I will say you were talking about being transported, will say you were talking about um being transported and I think I think that's we'll go soul golf hour with mr hidden greens. I think that's that's what we look for, you know. You know, when we're out there playing golf, we don't think about our life behind that off. We'll get copyrighted.
Speaker 2:I was gonna, I was really gonna go on a tangent yeah, I know um, but no, I I think I think that elevate it elevates that, like you know, like when you get to go play golf, like nothing else matters besides that round of golf and that is an exceptional escape from the world behind you and you just get escape from the world behind you, and you just get, you get to live in that environment and, um, that's what's so cool about it you know it's all golf.
Speaker 1:It is, but let's, hey, let's see you guys later let's get he's out. Let's get a little. Let's give a little time to the. The number one course on our list, uh, southern highlands. So we've been fortunate to play it a couple times.
Speaker 2:Um, jeremy beat derrick carr in a scramble. Yes, we did?
Speaker 1:we forced him to leave the raiders? He was so embarrassed um jeremy. What's your thoughts on so high and why do you have it top of your list?
Speaker 3:uh, I mean, I played it twice. Once was in that scramble, the other time was in the snga thing and it. I mean it was sort of like what you were talking about summit, like everything. The grass is perfect. Like you, you don't even have to play good golf to enjoy your round. That's so high. It's just you're just in awe of the design. Some of the holes are just incredible. Like the way they even thought about it. Like that, that the highest point on the whole course.
Speaker 1:Hitting down into that fairway is ridiculous. Oh it's so cool.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, that one. And then one of my favorite holes is that super tight shoot from the tee box out to the fairway. That's incredibly tight, like you have to hit that so straight, but that's like you don't see that anywhere else really, maybe in the carolinas or augusta oh wild horse 16 or wild horse 16 yeah, I don't think that's one of the tightest shoots in town, right there.
Speaker 3:Yeah, you just go over the top. But true, yeah, I don't know it's just it's, it's. It has those there's courses that you go to and you just feel like it's special just being there, and for me that's, that's one of those places Like it's cool to just go there and Steve-O's, our caddy, and just hanging out with your buddies. But you know it's special because it's so hard to play there if you're not a member. And it's hard to be a member. I mean, their wait list is massive and it's super expensive.
Speaker 1:so yeah, yeah, for me, that's why the design is incredible, the whole layouts, the greens, everything so we were, we were there with a callaway fitting, uh, this past week, and, uh, there was a little frost delay. And so, uh, julie and I were hanging out on the patio and I mean, if you want the defining moment for me, for vibe, that was it the. You've got the patio out there, you've got the bar, you got the fire pits, you got the guy out grilling sausages for they've upgraded since like you played it last time it was way better than it was the time previous yeah it, it.
Speaker 1:I mean just being able to sit there and just soak it all in and you know the clientele there is crazy high end because it's it's a very expensive place to be a member. But the vibe in the air was just so, just electric. It was like God. It's just awesome because everybody was there to play this amazing golf course and they were pumped. The members are pumped because it's their home course. Their guests are pumped because they're getting ready to play it. The members are pumped for their guests because they're getting ready to play it and I mean it was pretty awesome watching those interactions, just watching the people waiting for us to get down to the range.
Speaker 2:And the Chipping Green is, bar none, the best Chipping Green it's awesome.
Speaker 1:Chipping Green is amazing. The practice has got double-ended range. Either side is fantastic a little better. Yeah, titleist.
Speaker 2:I agree the putting could be a little bigger so I mean, I think, I think, I think Robert Trent Jones, I think that was the last course, him and his son he did he was part of yeah right yeah, so like could you imagine if fazio did that? Like I think it would have been way different. Yeah, I don't think, shadow creek, wouldn't it?
Speaker 2:yeah right and it did that. Yeah, but that's what's so. That's what's so. Crazy is, like the the different ways they could have took it. You know, and, uh, you guys know the story about steve win and fazio right with him going to prim, why he went to, why he went to prim, yeah, so, but no, I think I think they did a great job. I mean so, but no, I think I think they did a great job. I mean, I for me, I think the par threes are so good and so spectacular and so picturesque, like the par threes on that golf course are just like I made it. You know, it's like it's just they're so good, so they're so very, very good that one par three.
Speaker 3:I don't remember which hole it is, but it's got the pond in front of it and it's like it's just they're so good, so good, so very, very good. That one par three. I don't remember which hole it is, but it's got the pond in front of it and it's like level with almost level with the green. It's like that is such a difficult, such a hard hole to look at because the depth perception where the water is almost even with the front of the green and it's just a hundred percent carry eight Eight, All the front of the green and it's just 100% carry Eight.
Speaker 2:All of them have water, I think it's eight, it's true.
Speaker 6:It's got the waterfalls.
Speaker 1:Eight is one of my favorite holes in the mix.
Speaker 6:Four doesn't have any water. It's not four, it's two, two. Two is the only one that's kind of out of place. Eight's the shorty over's kind of out of place, yeah. Yeah. Eight's the shorty. Eight's the shorty over the water by the main gates. Twelve's another shorty with the water right, and then sixteen's, just a beautiful course, beautiful one. That's like 190.
Speaker 2:I think that's the one sixteen yeah, it feels like a Fawes, but with way better bunkers. Well, the bunkers are the best, so good. Yeah, so everything out there is amazing so how many fawesios are in vegas?
Speaker 1:uh, right now you've got shadow and summit. Uh, we used to have two just across the border, but well when, when Well win win, but the new one is done by his son.
Speaker 2:Yeah, there's some relatives that should have never been done.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I should have never done that. So I had my highest rated course was Shadow and so High, both at 94. And then the course overall uh was shadow at 70, uh, joe had his highest rated course. Uh was piute at 90 um and uh course uh just the golf course was 65, also piute. Sun jeremy's overall highest was southern highlands at 93. Overall highest course only was southern highlands at 70, and then dan had shadow creek. Overall highest score at 84 and highest course shadow creek at 62. So that's it.
Speaker 1:We we don't have to do this again until 2026. It's really crazy hopefully we don't have less golf courses on the list yeah, we might, we might well no so I have here let's see the the courses that we need to finish our list and these kind of uh, some of them are outside the valley, um, but I've got I have casablanca. What? Look at it, we need to get massive rankings of customer service driving range at sky mountain. Oh god, you don't want that, don't we don't need to hear that again.
Speaker 2:No, no, no. Honestly, I was so disappointed in that. Golf course, I'm sorry, oh yeah me too.
Speaker 1:uh, casablanca, I need to play, durango Hills and Eagle Crest I need to play. I played Los Prados many, many, many years ago when I was not really golfing, so I need to go out there and play that again.
Speaker 2:Los Prados is the shit. I love Los Prados Mojave.
Speaker 1:Resort, Oasis, which I just found out. There's two 18-hole courses at Oasis, so we're going to have to update that in 2026. I still need Red Rock in the Summit and Wynn. So those are mine. Joe's, Joe's, Joe's, Joe's Joe needs Casablanca as well, Mojave Resort as well, the Oasis Club as well, Shadow Creek and the Nellis Course, Sunrise Vista.
Speaker 2:Close. I'm so close, close. Get me out there. Get me there.
Speaker 1:He needs Anthem. Country Club Durango Hills, eagle Crest. Hey, that's something we should do this summer, jeremy, we'll just go out there and knock out Durango Hills and Eagle Crest one day. Yeah, the Country Club Laughlin Ranch, mojave Resort, red Rock Country Club, shadow Creek, sunrise, vista at Nellis Summit and Wynn.
Speaker 2:Also, somebody get Jeremy to Las Vegas Country Club.
Speaker 3:He'll love that court. I'm begging you please.
Speaker 2:Get him there.
Speaker 1:Get him there. Dan is low man on the poll with only needing four Conestoga, which I'm shocked. You haven't played Conestoga the Club of South Shore, laughlin Ranch and Wynn. So, Laughlin Ranch. We got a BGN event there, so hopefully you get that one knocked out and then you need to go play Conestoga man. That's fun on a golf course.
Speaker 2:CDP Road Trip.
Speaker 3:Yeah, yeah, we might have a couple yeah we have a mesquite trip we need to make. We have a laughlin slash arizona trip do mojave and laughlin yeah, weekend yeah, get these knocked out.
Speaker 1:So if anybody's listening.
Speaker 6:That is a member at south shore let me know uh, anybody listening that wants a member at South Shore?
Speaker 1:let me know Anybody listening that wants to invite us out to Shadow Creek? Let us know We'll get beautiful golf courses. Mind the show. We'll be out there soon. All right, let's do some Matty.
Speaker 4:G with the weekend weather. What's going on everybody? Matt gontar with fox 5 and taking a look at your vgn finals forecast out in boulder creek it's going to be a very cold weekend. Temperatures on saturday and sunday afternoon around three o'clock we'll tap out in the upper 50s, but those early morning tea times eight o'clock you're going to be looking at temperatures man low to mid 40s. So it's going to be a pretty chilly start with a little wind too. Not expecting the wind to be too bad, but a slight chance for showers. On Saturday Looks mainly dry, though, and Sunday we're clear with plenty of sunshine, but both days man really cold in the morning hours shaping out into the upper 50s. For an afternoon high, Good luck, Hit them straight. And if for an afternoon high, Good luck, Hit them straight. And if there's any wind, play it. But wind just overall shouldn't be too bad over the weekend.
Speaker 1:Do, do, do, do, do, do, do so. The number 12, of course, on our ratings is the home of the VGN Finals this year and we'll be right back there at the beginning of next year. So turn that banner off. So good news is Jeremy gets to play now. Our condolences and best wishes to Sean Rowe. He was involved in a car accident, got T-boned and he had to withdraw. He's doing okay. He's doing okay. He told me his attorney recommended him not getting out and playing golf in a golf tournament after an accident. So he's like I'm probably could play, but I'd better not. I said no, you, you just you heal up and get better. Uh, yeah, what the hell happened to fall yeah, it was last this weekend and now it's gone.
Speaker 1:So yeah, jeremy fills in for the spot. We got 39 of the 40 coming out, so it should be a good time. Matty G had to withdraw. He was bummed. There's news to get to.
Speaker 2:Yeah, there's news to get to.
Speaker 1:News to get to. He saw the weather and was like nope, I can play at Coyote Springs, I'm going to watch my bears lose, I'll watch my bears lose at home.
Speaker 3:Who's the bear's fan?
Speaker 1:Oh, big Chicago guy that.
Speaker 2:Matty G.
Speaker 1:Big Chicago guy.
Speaker 2:Or it is at home Portillo's Italian beef kit, and he's good, Yep, yep. Italian beef kit, and he's good.
Speaker 1:Yep yep.
Speaker 6:Italian beef kit Emergency Italian beef kit. Yeah so.
Speaker 2:He knows what I'm talking about.
Speaker 1:Should be a good weekend of golf. We'll crown some champions. Friday is when I am expected to get the trophies. Uh, I, I asked, uh, joel. I was like oh, can you send me a teaser pic? And he's like dude, I was so rushed trying to get these wrapped up and shipped out to you, I forgot to take pictures I'm like surprise, surprise, surprise so uh, he did show me a picture of them wrapped up.
Speaker 6:Super.
Speaker 1:It's going to be a really nice trophy to go along with, you know, whoever wins the actual tournament for the two days, so some people could be leaving with some really nice hardware. And some good money, I would love to grab me an Atomic Golf trophy.
Speaker 4:It's a long shot. I got to win.
Speaker 6:So let's get a chance, put it here if it somebody's gotta win.
Speaker 1:Somebody's got a little trey has to catch pneumonia in order for him not to win.
Speaker 1:So everybody right behind him that had a chance definitely yeah no, not too many people have a chance of uh, I mean, he has to finish dead last and I think whoever's in second has to win. I still don't even know if it's possible, but I think it is. But all the other ones are super tight, so it's going to be fun to see how it all comes down to it. Two-day aggregate score, and then we'll be talking about the 2025 season.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm stoked. I get to play with Doug. I get to play with Drop. Drop texted me the other day. He said we're soul golfing, we're taking our shoes off and we're going to play some golf. I'm excited.
Speaker 1:Ground's going to be cold.
Speaker 2:That's what he said, but we're doing it.
Speaker 1:Maybe wait until the afternoon. We're doing it. Maybe wait until the afternoon? Yeah, and then the tee times will flip based on the standings after round one, so you know if you're in first place after round one you will be the last person to go out in your group.
Speaker 2:I got to do well Saturday because I'm tight. On Sunday I'm very tight.
Speaker 1:Very tight. Well with Matty tight well. Better with maddie g.
Speaker 2:better hope we don't have any frost delays yeah, well, we need frost delays supposed to be that cold frost sundays yeah, I need to get low 50s oh, you need to get out late, oh low so we need frost delays. Come on, maddie g frost.
Speaker 1:Yeah, we got people that are trying to hit airplanes too, so I don't want to have too much of a delay.
Speaker 2:Selfishly.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and then we got F1 the week after that, which is a lot less chaotic this year.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Nobody's losing their mind, all about it.
Speaker 3:Well, the unions are struggling.
Speaker 6:Yeah, there are. There's a lot of people losing their minds.
Speaker 1:Yeah, well, I mean not as bad as last year, not as bad, but yeah, not as bad as last year.
Speaker 6:They're losing their mind over other things that happened recently.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, no se bueno, All right, you got anything else. Anybody got anything? Yeah, no se bueno, so alright, you got anything else. Anybody got anything else? Hour and a half. We haven't done an hour and a half in a long time anybody nope anybody, no, alright.
Speaker 3:Joe, joe, let's play shadow, let's go play shadow, or let's do it um Valentine's Day down yeah, yeah that's smart.
Speaker 6:Valentine's day hey honey I got me a valentine's gift thanks, robbie appreciate it.
Speaker 3:It's one of the sweets in the mcm the heart-shaped jacuzzi.
Speaker 1:Yeah, yeah, I mean I want to give some credit to these guys that are sharing the screen with me, because you know, there, there's a lot of golf podcasts out there and, uh, not a lot of them last a long time. Um, it's not easy to do a show every single week. Uh. Doing it live is even more challenging at times, um, so the fact that these guys hop on the screen, uh, and we do this each week, is awesome. Love these fools. I wouldn't want to do this with anybody else. Um, 300 is the milestone for us. You know there's shows out there that are 900, a thousand. Uh, awesome, congrats to them. Uh, you know, but for for uh, golfuts from Vegas doing a show that's got 300 episodes in and we're growing. It's taking some time but we're getting there and I wouldn't want to do this with anybody else.
Speaker 2:Love you guys it's not for Golf Nuts, it's for friends, for friends forever. Hey, I love you guys too. You guys are my favorite friends I've ever had. You three are the greatest people I've ever known. This is the same guy. As erratic as you are mentally.
Speaker 3:What is a?
Speaker 2:friend if you're not going to tell them that they're erratic mentally?
Speaker 3:Yes.
Speaker 2:I clone into a deep dark hole.
Speaker 6:True friend will stab me in the front.
Speaker 3:Yes, yes.
Speaker 2:Joe, episode 301 as if we got any confirmation on that or no. He hasn't hit me back up. I'll have to text him. All right, we'll have to push that back to 302 or 303.
Speaker 1:Hey, uh, so 311 311 yeah, the uh the putting guru, preston combs. Uh uh had a unfortunate uh event happened within his family so he's not gonna be able to come out and do the putting uh camp that he was gonna do, but he is coming out for a. Um, he need me for 301 with your whenever you want to come on, you're always welcome he's going to be out here in December for a coaches clinic, so I'm going to try and connect with him, see if we can maybe get him on the show.
Speaker 4:Talk some putting, because I have yet to meet Eric so definitely need to get him out here yeah, we'll meet him, meet Eric, oh God, yeah, definitely need to get him out here, we'll meet him at Barcode, you can always find him at the Burger Bar or Barcode.
Speaker 1:yeah, yeah, that's right by my work. Oh man, I wish that place was on like Eastern and Sunridge Heights. I would go there so much more.
Speaker 6:Anthem Parkway.
