The Chasing Daylight Podcast

319: From Whatnot to Wedges and TGL to Walkeen Kneemhan

CHASING DAYLIGHT

Send us a text

The golf equipment rabbit hole runs deep in this laughter-filled episode as the crew shares their latest struggles and triumphs on the course. When Matt reveals he's hitting his driver better than ever while completely losing his iron game, the others commiserate about the perpetual balancing act that is golf improvement.

A spirited debate erupts over wedge selection, with Joe passionately defending his 60-degree wedge despite admitting it only produces magic 1% of the time. "That 1% when it works is better than the 99% that failed," he argues, perfectly capturing the optimistic delusion every golfer knows all too well. Meanwhile, others have converted to the 58-degree camp, with testimonials pouring in from listeners who've made the switch.

The conversation shifts to the addictive world of online golf equipment buying, with confessions about deleting the Whatnot app to prevent further gear accumulation. "It's a marketplace where you can score some shit if you know your shit," Joe explains, before warning listeners, "But don't do it. But if you want to try and buy stuff you can't get anywhere else, do it. But I suggest not doing it."

The crew provides a thoughtful analysis of TGL's inaugural season, offering constructive criticism about how to improve the simulator golf league. From eliminating the repetitive "speed bump" on every green to keeping player microphones open for more authentic interactions, their suggestions come from a place of wanting the innovative format to succeed.

Looking ahead to tournament preparations and the approaching Masters, the enthusiasm builds for upcoming play and viewing parties. With 72 players signed up for their weekend tournament and perfect weather in the forecast, golf season is hitting full stride. How's your game shaping up for the major championship season ahead?

Speaker 1:

A little duck sauce, a little duck sauce for everybody.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to another episode of the Chasing Daylight Podcast.

Speaker 2:

Big Pooh Young with some duck sauce.

Speaker 1:

Dude, that new Brazilian joint. Did that not look good? Ooh.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I saw it. I mean yeah, it looks fantastic. B-state, B-State.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we're gonna have to have a CDP night there, wouldn't I? Mm-hmm, what is up everybody? Welcome to another episode of the Chasing Daylight Podcast Episode. What are we at 319? Oh, vick, vick, vick, my god victor sanchez, victor sanchez the winningest golfer in vegas right now lurking.

Speaker 1:

This guy is just winning everything and have yip strickler reach out to you and have a little conversation. See, yeah, vic was uh. I got another win uh Tropicana Golf out at uh Club at Sunrise.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, so yeah those duck hooks must not be appearing as often as they used to.

Speaker 1:

Good for you and, and we're returning to Boulder Creek where he won the finals and won the player of the year. Vic's on a little tear right now. We got 22 other guys competing in that flight this weekend with him. Come on, fellas, because my game sure as shit ain't there right now I am. I am on the struggle bus right now, the struggle bus, and it's crazy because I'm hitting my hitting my driver better than I ever have hit my driver.

Speaker 1:

it's absolutely just on a tear right now and I'm so excited about that, but I can't hit an iron to save my life.

Speaker 2:

That's been my issue too.

Speaker 1:

That makes scoring very hard, yeah. And then when you're playing with guys like Reed and Jeremy and Dan that are just piss-missing on every shot with their irons, it's like so deflating. Just all I heard all day was ball just being murdered.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, they're just missiles right by your ear.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, Reed, it was fun. Reed came out with us because Joe couldn't make it Great to see Reed still absolutely smashes the ball yeah, yes, he does.

Speaker 2:

He's got a lot of muscle oh he's ate a lot of protein in his life and worked those muscles a few times when reed squares up the ball.

Speaker 1:

Oh my god it goes a long way yeah, it goes a long way on. On 11, on, uh, lex, uh jeremy, hit one up to the, the mouth of the, where it comes together, where it narrows in, then dan put one, two, three feet past him and then re-put one, two, three feet past dan, like good, and I'm sitting there going Jesus. Not even fair. But I had a couple good drives, I had a couple good shots, and the new five-wood titanium is a beast of a club man.

Speaker 3:

Dan, that was your first round with the three-wood Yep. I hit it one time, unfortunately, actually. No, I did it twice, but the second time it was nice, I blasted it. I made a little adjustment and blasted it and it feels really good, so I'm excited about it.

Speaker 1:

That is a absolute monster of a golf club.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, yeah, I'm on the hunt. I mean I I've had all my shit for so long. I just I want to see new things in my bag, and it's just been so long.

Speaker 1:

So joe sends us a text chat in our group chat last night. He goes, got a new putter and then goes dark for 10 minutes.

Speaker 2:

It's like yeah, yeah, those kids, you can't do that. Yeah, and it wasn't a new putter, it was an old no, no, no, you got that thing. There is it a bullseye yeah, it's an acoush net bullseye, yeah, with like seven degrees aloft, uh, just like it's awesome. Yeah, it's basically a.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's a square strut it's a chutter, it's a shutter, it's a shutter, it's a shutter. Um no, it's cool, though I just you know, I don't own anything like with a cushion at branding, so it's like 15 bucks, so scored it on whatnot what's going on?

Speaker 1:

what is I had? I had to delete the app because, yeah, it was consuming way too much of my time. I I would just sit there and I agree yes I you know I have deleted tiktok from my phone because it was taking up too much of my time and whatnot was taking up way too much of my time. But there is some really fun and good things to watch on there and you've been you've been watching a lot lately and you've met some really cool people.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah, it's very interesting. It's so weird, right. It's such a thing that has never existed. I mean, there's some good sellers on there and there's bad sellers on there, right, there's people that are engaging Beautiful Golf Courses has entered the chat, so just want a little Howdy, sir. It's been a while. Yeah, yeah, welcome back um healing up, but uh, what not? I mean it's like you do have to dedicate time to it because there's deals to be had, but you have to, you have to watch there for it listen yeah, you gotta you know, so, um, but no, it's uh.

Speaker 2:

It's a marketplace to where you can score some shit if you know your shit. You can score some great deals on things if other people don't know what they're talking about. But there's sellers that know what they're talking about and man, it's uh, it's very addicting, so don't do it. But it's a really good place to buy stuff, but don't do it.

Speaker 4:

Don't do it, if you want it, but do it.

Speaker 2:

But if you want to try and buy stuff that you can't get anywhere else, do it. But I suggest not doing it. That's all. It's addicting.

Speaker 1:

So if you're not familiar with what what's Not is, it's basically live auctions. They have some that it's a countdown 25 seconds and the last bid in wins. There's also ones where if somebody bids in the last five seconds, it adds a timer and it adds 10 seconds and goes, and so some of those auctions can get up there in price for something good. If somebody bids in the last five second, it adds a timer and, yeah, it's 10 seconds and goes, and so some of those auctions can get up there and price for something good. But you know the what are they called? Sudden death? Is that what they're called?

Speaker 2:

yeah, sudden death, the sudden death one it doesn't reset.

Speaker 1:

And if you're on those and it's, I mean, you can find some gems and there's a. There's all kinds of different um, what do you want to call it? There's different, uh niches on there.

Speaker 2:

There's golf, there's vinyl, there's pops, there's uh I mean sporting cards, pokemon cards, uh, electronics that weren't on or unopened, returns from amazon, things like all kinds of wild shit, man oh, oh, here, this is uh-oh, here, this is good.

Speaker 1:

Right here, mr Dilly's in the house, tip your fitters. Only missed one fairway today with my new elite Love hearing that Dilly, Dilly, Dilly. Came in and got fit for some clubs and yeah, love hearing that, love hearing that I can attest.

Speaker 3:

I can attest, especially watching Jeremy off the tee now. I played a lot of golf with Jeremy and his tee game is completely different.

Speaker 4:

It's ridiculous, isn't it? I've gained 30 yards easily. He's not a joke.

Speaker 2:

I mean shout out all the fitters out there, but it might be the shorties hat, because that hasn't left his head since we left.

Speaker 4:

I ordered. I ordered three of them. Same hat. This is my favorite hat, that's a good look. No, I sleep with it. Shower always stays clean. Yeah, love yeah.

Speaker 1:

I have a secret fitting tomorrow night with uh one, mr stephen jackson, because, uh, he has been. He has been hearing all the rumors of jeremy's excellent play and he wants to get in on it.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, I mean jacks is is one to search. He's a searcher. Jax is a searcher.

Speaker 1:

Very much so.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Very much so. You showed me a picture of his new car.

Speaker 3:

Did you see that, Jeremy?

Speaker 4:

Oh, yeah, yeah. I was pretty much there with him buying it Virtually.

Speaker 3:

Virtually. Are we not talking about the Audi audi?

Speaker 1:

oh no, that's gone rid of it, that's gone.

Speaker 3:

I can't wait to see his next one all right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, are we not talking about the nfl player steven jackson, or?

Speaker 1:

no, no, no, no different steven jackson, not that steven jackson no he's not relevant.

Speaker 3:

It's got to be a very common name buying a new club?

Speaker 1:

no way, yeah, uh, he, he's a tinker of my, of my he's, he's, he is right up there with you yes, yes, actually he, he buys more cars than he does clubs yeah, since since we've been chatting. He's had his the, the r8, then he had his truck, then he had the audi, then he had now this new one. So it's yeah, that's funny yeah I was excited I I had a water pump leak on the atlas and it was still under warranty.

Speaker 1:

I'm like, yes, yeah oh that's the old man style right there, heck yeah keep logging them miles, it's gonna die yeah, drive out to mesquite on thursday, so I had to make sure the the you know the car was ready to go so yeah, mesquite thursday.

Speaker 2:

Right, you got one appointment. I went over to buy some new golf balls today and oh, you saw, Juju yeah.

Speaker 1:

I snuck up on him and I said can you tell me about the Speedframe technology, speedwave, speedwave.

Speaker 2:

Speedwave? No, I was trying to go years back. Oh okay, yeah, so I was trying to like confuse him, but yeah, we chatted for a while. He said, yeah, you guys are going out there Thursday.

Speaker 4:

Where's the fitting at?

Speaker 3:

Oasis.

Speaker 4:

Oasis yeah.

Speaker 3:

I haven't played there in a while.

Speaker 1:

I've never played it.

Speaker 3:

I didn't know they had two 18-hole courses there.

Speaker 4:

They're fun, they're good.

Speaker 2:

He says Conestoga, get the F out of here.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, exactly. Well, I haven't played Conestoga yet, so yeah, I can imagine you need to play Conestoga Dan.

Speaker 1:

You really need to play Conestoga.

Speaker 3:

We need to do that. I'm looking forward to that. Nothing but great things about Conestoga.

Speaker 1:

May have to do that before laughlin, just so you can have a good contrast between the two. All right, are you gonna be? You're gonna be here for a lot. Okay, you're missing tbc vegas, not laughlin, okay yeah that's uh, that's gonna be a fun one can't wait for it. Um, all right, so let's see, you know what. Let's do, matty G, with the weather, because we got some excellent weather coming up. Let's do that, and then we can get into some other shit.

Speaker 5:

What's up everybody? Fox 5 meteorologist Matt Gontarg back again with the Chasing Daylight podcast. We have our VGN tournament coming up at Boulder Creek on Saturday. It's at 8 am, shotgun between 6 to 7 am. Expect temperatures to be in the mid-50s by tee time at 8 am at 60 degrees and then at the turn it'll be around 65 degrees, a few clouds but mainly sunny as we roll out your Saturday, and highs by the end of the round at 70 degrees and once again we'll have some mainly sunny skies and winds around 5 to 15 miles per hour, have a great tournament and good luck Shut

Speaker 3:

up AG.

Speaker 1:

It's going to be hot tomorrow, but then it's cooling down. We got a little wind coming in and cool off, but man, it's going to be awesome.

Speaker 2:

Hey, real quick, before he jumps off the Instagram stream shout out the Homie David Quest four par with the ace today at Stone Creek. Ooh, nice Congrats.

Speaker 1:

Well done, my brother.

Speaker 2:

So sick. There we go. What a day, what a day. Remember it. Hold on Number three for him, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Wow, remember it, remember it. Number three for him yeah, wow. So yeah, he's, he's, he's, he's got, he's got a few.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and I'd be, I'd be happy with a green and regulation on a part three right now. So because they are, I mean, my last good shot on a part three was at CNO when. I won the CTP. That that was the last good shot on a par three. Was at cno when I won the ctp. That that was the last good shot on a par three.

Speaker 2:

Man, it's been a while struggling, struggle, but I used to be very great at par threes and now I just I'm just absolute garbage, like I used to just. But you know it is what it is. It comes with the territory Play golf play bad, you play good, it happens.

Speaker 1:

We got 72 players teeing it up at Boulder Creek this Saturday morning. Really happy that we have 72 showing up for that one. They changed their routing on us. We did have El Dorado and Coyote and Desert Hawk, but it is Coyote Run and Desert Hawk now no Eldorado. So the same two that we played for the VGN finals, which you know they are the best two nines out there, so the better of the two nines out there. So, looking forward to it. Played there this past week with Woody Great to see him so happy he's back out there. And uh, rob chapman, uh, I let rob take the, uh, the uh jailbird slant neck for test drive. Dude, rolled it great, rolled it great.

Speaker 1:

so, robbie's normally in the chat so but uh, he then goes out and hits a seven-teamer and a four-teamer and got some money.

Speaker 3:

So he's like I'm buying a new putter.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

He did well Good for him. He could have bought several lab putters. Put it that way, it was a nice ticket.

Speaker 3:

Fuckin' A Good for Rob.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, don't know if he'll have a new one in play for Saturday, but this is real quick before.

Speaker 2:

This is a great. I love this. Okay, stems Golf. We all know Stems Golf. Yes, he said this podcast honestly makes my day today was hectic, but thank you for doing this. Thank you, sorry you had was hectic, but thank you for doing this. That's all it is.

Speaker 3:

Thank you, sorry, you had a hectic day and I'm glad we can help alleviate whatever we can.

Speaker 1:

Love to hear it I love to hear it Anytime we can bring a little joy.

Speaker 2:

Matt always says Goosies yes, I've never, heard anyone in my entire life say Goosies, but Matt says it all the time when something hits him in the gut. Goosey moment, goosey moment, goosey moment.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so yeah. Well, hey, you know what? We're glad you listened. You know you're part of the Vegas golf community so we love that you hop on here and hop in the conversations. It's always good. It's always good and I'm glad Mike's back Said he got another surgery coming up. But the golf world is a better place when you're active and in it.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. Shout out, mike, beautiful golf courses, everybody follows them. We don't have to tell you to follow them, you already follow them. But shout out, mike, beautiful golf courses, everybody follows them. We don't have to tell you to follow them, you, you already follow them. But shout out, mike, thank you, you're. You're the man. You got this. Hit us up anytime we're here for you. And uh, this, this he typically posts. He has a local coffee shop right that he goes to on mondays, and this week really confused me. I didn't hit you up, mike, but like the ketchup versus ranch thing, they were on separate colored cans and it really fucked me up. But uh, yeah, follow beautiful golf courses. You already do. But if you don't, then do it. But you probably already do hey, did you see?

Speaker 1:

uh, there's a badass coffee that's getting built where that uh drive through pizza place was on st rose.

Speaker 2:

All that today.

Speaker 1:

Today, yes, drive through pizza place yeah, it used to be uh, I can't remember what it was called, but it was, it's right Rose and Pecos Ridge. It's right where the city is, and public works area is it's like a Pizza Planet, thing, but it was Fly Pie, fly Pie.

Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know where you're at.

Speaker 1:

Now it's going to be badass coffee. They're from Hawaii. There's one on Charleston. I haven't been there, but it'd be nice to have another. Another coffee joint. We can always use more coffee joints. Good coffee is good, Yep.

Speaker 2:

I will tell you better buzz. Damn good coffee. Better buzz is pretty good.

Speaker 1:

It's pretty damn good coffee yeah it was pretty good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, okay, so next Tuesday, pretty good, yeah, um, okay, so, uh, next tuesday uh is when I will be doing the wheel of destiny and giving away, uh, all the shit that I'm giving away for the uh post. That went crazy. Um, there, there's some good stuff in there. Uh, lab or not? Lab la golf. Uh sent me a shaft, so we got a soho shaft. The jailbird uh slant putter uh golf pride, reverse taper, grip a dozen callaway chrome tour golf balls um a hat, a 14 go do that, get in that giveaway right now and a t-shirt.

Speaker 1:

All you gotta do is leave a comment. Just leave a comment, that's like the post and you gotta be following. Of course you know. But it's not one of those. You know. I'm not promoting it, I'm not. I'm not spending any money trying to get more followers. It's just an appreciation for everybody liking a post. That I did that. I had no intention of it going nuts and it did so a little give back to the golf community on my behalf. So one week away from that, I think we've got like 75 entries in it so far, so chances are good. It's almost $1,000 worth of stuff. Oh, there's a swag head cover in there too.

Speaker 2:

Some good stuff. I tried to tag people that are not in las vegas, so, oh, thanks to to, like you know, like my entry is like legit, so I'm trying to, you know, like you know, so people don't think it's fixed. Like I tried to tag people that were, that you don't know, in other parts of the world jeremy needs to throw one of his hats in there.

Speaker 1:

No, no, no I have.

Speaker 4:

I have a new one, but you have to play shorties before I can give it away. There you go. I love to hear that.

Speaker 1:

That's great no, I'm telling all the guys you win. If you played shorties, I'll send one I'm reaching out to all the people in vegas saying, hey, enter, enter, enter. Please save me some shipping.

Speaker 4:

It is the lower 48.

Speaker 2:

Minnesota. Let's get some people that live right on old head links, like right on the edge of the water, get that shipping up North Long Island.

Speaker 1:

We'll do that live next week, uh, so, um, yeah, make sure you yeah you don't need another reason to play shorties.

Speaker 2:

Uh, hats not gonna sell you on shorties. Shorties will sell you on shorties. But shout out. Dave for entering, thank you it was fun.

Speaker 1:

That's a fun golf course. We had a a blast.

Speaker 2:

I really want to play it again. So bad. That was a whirlwind that day. I was hobbling, I was sidestepping the whole time.

Speaker 1:

The airport walk was hilarious, that's right.

Speaker 3:

You were Joe. The airport walk was hilarious.

Speaker 1:

It looked like Joe had a five-pound shit in his drawers.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, airport walk was hilarious. Looked like joe had a five pound in his drawers. Yeah, yeah, for real.

Speaker 1:

Just jeremy had a broken ankle dan's foot was we?

Speaker 5:

we looked like I mean that, that that was not a crime.

Speaker 2:

I would have wanted to go to battle stormed normandy and you know just came out alive.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, too much fun, and I can't wait to do it again. Yeah, can't wait to do it again.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that was a lot of fun. That was the best trip yet uh, all right, let's see.

Speaker 1:

Uh, so the tgl we can talk about the tgl. The finals happened tonight. Uh, I didn't know it was a two-night thing. I figured why the heck would they be going up against college basketball? But I guess, since it was women's basketball, it didn't matter. But I didn't even know it was on last night. Watched it tonight though. Great, it was good. It wasn't fantastic, but it was good. Oh, let's see. Hang on a second Random question what wedge degree is everyone playing? And may hop onto the 58 degree train jeremy, what do you got?

Speaker 4:

uh, I have a 46, 50, 54, 58.

Speaker 1:

I highly recommend the 58 joe dan, what do you got? 52, 50, 52 and 58 and I have 52, 50, I have 50, 54, 58 and Joe's got a 68, a 74 and an 82 you'll never get me out of a 60 like I'm never playing anything.

Speaker 2:

I my lob wedge will forever be a 60, I will never. That's the day that I've lost my mind. You know like full on what blows me away about you and your 60. I'm an any at that point.

Speaker 1:

What blows me away about your 60 degree is you like live for the moments and you love being creative, but you refuse to be creative. Abandoned you, you, you hit that all the time.

Speaker 2:

What? Three, four times now?

Speaker 1:

yeah yeah, but you refuse to get creative around the greens with another club. You will only play your 60, no matter where you are, and I don't understand it yeah, because you could be yeah could you imagine like a sick-ass flop shot with a 60 abandoned? Well, I got on video you chunking it twice on 18 at old mac. It's fine. It's fine, but I mean a nice little, but you also.

Speaker 3:

You also hit that bar, run off the hill.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I, I played for the 1%. I play for the 1% moments Like 99% of the time. It fucking sucks. You know what I mean.

Speaker 5:

But that 1%.

Speaker 2:

That fucking is sick. I love that 1%. You know what I mean. Like when the 1% works, it's better than the 99% that failed with a 60 degree.

Speaker 4:

So you ever take a full swing.

Speaker 2:

Jenner, saying a 60 degree has no place at banded dunes. You're right, and I have switched it up a little bit. I used my 54 and my gap a little more last time we were out there, because it's a learning experience. And what is life if you don't learn as you progress through the moment?

Speaker 1:

You know what I mean, but I've had always had my conversation with you, I'm like dude, just grab an eight iron and hit a nice little soft chip and roll this thing and use those contours Nestle up right next to the hole.

Speaker 2:

He's like nope, chunk, but if it would have worked you would have been like oh shit, this full sick dog.

Speaker 1:

I think, if I think, if, like I, was a, a single and I was playing with you and it's the first time I met and you did that I'd be like, wow, damn. But now, after playing with you for 200 times, it's like, oh man, I love you so much.

Speaker 2:

I, I, just, I, just, I, just I, I. You can be so creative with a 60. I think that's the greatest club that will. That is in the bag. You can hit it low, you can little hit a little skipper. You can fucking fly it as high to the moon as you want, but uh, but you don't do that, you just hit floppers I do you never see you bringing your six to the low never, yeah your 60 is a 74 at all

Speaker 3:

times bro at all times that toe is open. Who are you trying to get right now, bro?

Speaker 2:

hey, I practice the little low skippers though all the time in the backyard, but when I like maybe it's my like mind or my eyes, like I just see it going high you know I'm like hi flop it for real, like I think, if you to the moon. Just dunk every shot high flop and dunk.

Speaker 3:

Just no bouncing no spin just fucking straight into the hole, right in the hole.

Speaker 1:

That's what I see every time.

Speaker 2:

Every time I see it, it's just dunking in the hole. High dunk. That's what I see. Yeah, that's the vision.

Speaker 1:

Chris. Acosta 60 and a 50 degree, about to get an Opus 56. Love hearing that Good majority of people I talk to who have played Vokey made the switch to Opus Wedges. You're going to have to clip that. Hey, dan was messing with my 58 on Sunday and loves it. Jeremy likes it and Jeremy's a big Vokey guy. The Opus Wedges are pretty damn good. It's pretty damn good. What did Jay say? I have four 2009 Spinmills, 64 Vokeys. They are still brand new.

Speaker 2:

There you go.

Speaker 1:

Joe.

Speaker 3:

Look at Jeremy 64.

Speaker 1:

Good Lord, I couldn't imagine it.

Speaker 3:

Those are the best Spinmilled versions spin mill versions 2009, 2010.

Speaker 1:

They were awesome this is the wedge conversation I never knew I needed.

Speaker 2:

I think the real issue is probably the bounce. Like I play, 8 degree bounce, I mean obviously that club would make it out of the bunker.

Speaker 1:

No, you just have the shaft sticking out of the sand that's my issue.

Speaker 2:

When I go to band in or anywhere firm, it's like I don't have any bounce. You know like I know to throw and use the bounce, but like I don't have more than eight degrees. So I'm fucked, but I still. The hero in me lives on.

Speaker 1:

You know what I mean that's too funny that yeah is the opus wedge, like the warrior wedge, just have to pay shipping. Oh, the warrior wedge, the warrior wedge, oh, who has owned warrior clubs. Be honest, have you ever had any? No, I've never.

Speaker 4:

I haven't purchased any, but I think I had a putter from someone. One of my buddies bought one. It was absolute garbage.

Speaker 1:

Not good. Oh yeah, it's bad.

Speaker 2:

What's really crazy is, like a warrior wedge on whatnot will probably go for like 60 bucks, true, to try and get into a buyer's giveaway. You know that's wild that's hilarious.

Speaker 1:

Vick says he made the switch to opus. Don't regret it one bit. Wow, look at like I didn't realize so many people had switched to them Company, man, it's good stuff. Man, I'm not going to lie, it's good stuff. It is good stuff, all right. So we kind of got sidetracked, but TGL took place, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So, my question to you guys, because we've all watched some of it, not religiously or anything like that, but what is something and I'm not like. This isn't a harp on it, it's not a. It's not a like putting it down for any reason whatsoever, but there's always room for improvement with anything. Um, so what? What is something that you think would make it a better watch? For you know television, because television Cause I mean tonight I got.

Speaker 1:

I got a little bored, put on the night's game and then came back to it as as Billy Ho drained that putt. But what do you think is something that they could do?

Speaker 3:

I think the announcers announcer selection half could probably be better.

Speaker 2:

I think those guys are very exciting at all I don't mind the announcers much they repeat a lot you know what they could do it, just seems throw some fucking live odds on the william hill sports betting app, so I can bet on it shout out william hill and that would be good. If I had money on it I'd probably watch, no matter what time it was on, because the time is my main issue. But that's me, I don't. I don't mind the announcers very much. I would love to see roger steel, who is the announcer in stadium, on the broadcast, because he is a major face in golf, yeah he could totally add to it steph said they need ring girls carrying cards of what holder on that would be awesome.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I do get confused on what hole they're on for sure and where they're at in the match so that would be hilarious.

Speaker 1:

More shit talking among the players, for sure. Yeah, I mean the the jabbing is is. I'm not against it, don't get me wrong. I just don't think it's like something that they need to like focus on. It should just happen naturally. Those, those conversations just need to happen naturally. But you're not going to get that with patrick cantley no, and he's on this glover and you know they need to have personalities.

Speaker 1:

I think, uh, sahith was great to have on there. Um, I think they can get somebody like akshay on there, some of the younger guys, I think personalities yeah, let them drink.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that would help that would be hilarious that could be relatable. Um, I think they just need to keep those fucking mics open. Just keep the mics open on the players and whatever we hear, we hear, you know they'd probably be like what hole are we on? Where is this a scramble hole, is this a? And just let that shit happen. Live, yeah, you know, like, don't try and drown out the magic of the moment uh, we mentioned this earlier.

Speaker 1:

I, I think the, uh, the green they, they got to figure out a way to change that green it's. It's so redundant and it's the same shit every it's it's like what does it matter is on the screen yes, what they need to do is change that green, that little fucking hill.

Speaker 2:

They need to smooth that out a bit, and it doesn't matter where it is on the green, but that's just way too drastic way to change for every hole.

Speaker 3:

Yeah it should change for every hole. I agree, change for every fucking hole I mean pete died.

Speaker 2:

Never would have let that happen oh, could you.

Speaker 1:

Could you imagine going to a golf course and every green is exactly the same?

Speaker 2:

there's always a spot where it goes like this and when you hit it up on the hill and it doesn't release back down every single time. Yeah, get rid of this fucking thing.

Speaker 1:

Tgl I saw tonight they had tigers got time.

Speaker 1:

Jt hit, jt hit 182 on ball speed and they had a little fire underneath it. You know, on the on the uh stats and I was like, oh, they actually are having stats. Um, need more stats. I think, uh, that's one of the the cool things about when you go to play sim golf is you get to see all the data. You know you're out on, you know revere number three and you hit your tee shot. You don't know ball speed and carry and any of that. So it's one of the cool things about playing simulator golf is all the data is there and I think they need to showcase that.

Speaker 1:

Speaking of that, they need to use foresight yeah, uh, that's not gonna happen though no, I know, but it would improve it yes it would dramatically imagine if tiger would have invested in trackman, instead of imagine if tiger would have invested in trackman instead of is it?

Speaker 2:

yeah, everyone. Do you think trackman would be better?

Speaker 1:

well, trackman would probably be better, but it wouldn't be as good as foresight right, I mean the one's radar based and one is video based. You know cameras, um. So I mean there's different aspects to both of them. There's some good things about TrackMan.

Speaker 2:

I think what they have there like other things on foresight than TrackMan so. Trackman would probably work in that arena, though with how far that absolutely wise.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, add an average Joe to each team liability, but it make it fun to watch, yeah his name is Kevin Kisner. Yeah, just grab a a rando 25 handicap from the gin.

Speaker 2:

You know selection, congratulations yeah, stem says he would still miss putts. I think the green is. I think they're so, like the astroturf green and around the green. I think that's what really gives them really the struggles.

Speaker 1:

I know that shot can't lay hit today. To wrap up the yeah, but I would.

Speaker 2:

I would argue that you could probably go back and see like can't lay, like fucking dump something, you know yeah, I think I think it's just a little while it's not what they're used to.

Speaker 1:

You know what I mean yeah, it definitely took them a little while to get used to it.

Speaker 2:

They could go grow real grass in a stadium. That would improve it.

Speaker 1:

I think they need to make a real green indoors and have it like a legion where they just roll the green outside during the day yeah, bring in a real green for the events I think more courses.

Speaker 1:

It felt a bit repetitive, but I I'm sure that's one of the things they'll do is just add more holes I was perusing on on x earlier and robbie nick was commenting on something that somebody said that why can't we have real golf holes and let them play real golf holes? And he's like it's video game golf. Video game golf needs video game golf holes. So, and it's like I said, it's really irrelevant what's on that screen, because I mean, those guys, they're either in the fairway or the rough and I don't know. I I would like to see them make the hitting area a little bigger, because those guys are like standing half in the box and half out of the box because they want to tee it up in the middle. It's like that. That doesn't seem right. You know they should be only standing in the grass, but to stand where it's, you know you're all in the grass, you're teeing it up on the far right side of that and those they. You don't want to do that.

Speaker 2:

So I'm curious. So I was. I was like a big proponent, like I was really excited for it, right. So where would you guys rank the first two GL season? Like from one to 10, how did it work out, like for the first season and and manage your expectations, right? Cause I think, matt, you weren't like super stoked. I don't think any of you guys were super stoked on it Like I was. I was pretty, I was pretty hyped on it. Uh, rate it on one to 10. How do you think it turned out?

Speaker 1:

Go ahead Dan you go first.

Speaker 3:

I give it a. I give it a solid six. I think it would have been. I think it's very much a learning curve. Obviously it's the first season, but what didn't help in the beginning was the blowouts, I think.

Speaker 2:

Now, do you think that the hammer change like the rules for the hammer helped that in the second half?

Speaker 3:

Possibly a little bit because the second half, because the second half was a lot more competitive, yeah, um. So yeah, I think the start wasn't all that spectacular. Um, but you know, overall I'd give it. I'd give it a good, solid, six. That's what I was going to say I was going to say six.

Speaker 1:

Respectable.

Speaker 4:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I think the tech is cool, the environment is cool. I think the guys are enjoying it. I think they're having a good time with it. It's nice that it's on network TV. They got some good players in it. I just think there's some things that are a little redundant, that, uh, you know, after an hour and a half it's like wow. I've watched this guy hit into his screen as many times. You know, the green side stuff isn't as exciting as I, as I think it could be. Um, so yeah, the, the green, the green is a big, big issue for me.

Speaker 1:

And I don't know. Like I said, they touted how it's on pistons and it's moving but it never changed that top one is not. It never changed. So I don't know if that shit broke and their contract ran up for the shit that ran it. But Must have run out of swing juice on those puppies like we blew a piston and it's only available in china and trump got elected. We can't get it now.

Speaker 2:

So I I don't know it only, it only runs on fruitopia, fruitopia doesn't exist anymore jeremy, what'd you think?

Speaker 4:

I'd probably say like four and a half. To me it was boring. I couldn't get into it. Really, it was just boring. I mean it's cool, it's amazing what they did and what they created, but it's just boring. I like outside.

Speaker 3:

What would you rather watch, jeremy TGL or live tournament? Oh.

Speaker 2:

TGL. It better be TGL.

Speaker 4:

I don't know, to be honest, I don't know. That's a toss up.

Speaker 1:

Wow, yeah, I mean, I'm there's like.

Speaker 2:

TGL for me 100%.

Speaker 1:

What I watch, live for and like I'm I'm watching, I'm watching I'm watching bryson, I'm watching rom, watching dj the guys that I, you know, uh enjoyed watching when they're on the pga tour and they're playing real golf. So that kind of the real golf, you don't know where they're at, even though it's a shitty format.

Speaker 4:

You don't know where they are.

Speaker 1:

They have no idea.

Speaker 4:

You just mute it, it's much better, oh yeah.

Speaker 2:

You mute it. It's fantastic and maybe I've been watching Going for Eagle and it's like, well, he started on hole 12.

Speaker 1:

Maybe it's because I've been watching so much f1, but uh, I can tune out the announcers on live really easily. They don't bother me as much. Earlier with the pylon, yeah, uh so, but yeah, that's, that's tough, that's tough. Uh, I I agree with jeremy that, jeremy, that it's a little boring. It can be very redundant. Joe, what was yours?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you know I was super hyped on it. I'd probably give it like a seven, seven and a half. I think it was good. I think it was a great first season. There's a lot more they can bring to it. They need to figure out those times because that fucks all of us up on the west coast yeah, it needs to be in the fall at the same time on the same day none of these guys are playing in the fall well, it's, it's after the tour championship

Speaker 2:

yeah, I think, I think it gotta. It's gotta go like november, december, yeah, after whenever east lake's done, you know, like three, give it three weeks and then let them play. But uh, yeah, the time, the time thing is shitty. They were throwing times all everywhere like, okay, this one's at 5 pm, this one's at 1 pm, uh, this is at 7 pm, 9 pm, like it was just too much. Like, find a time that works. You know they do it at 8 pm eastern, 5 pm west coast. They're going to be there two hours. Everybody in florida is fine, they can get home. You know there's ubers there, don't worry about it. And yeah, I think they need to just signify the time and just nail that down. It doesn't? They were thrown.

Speaker 1:

There's no reason.

Speaker 2:

Monday at 1 pm Western time. I'm not watching.

Speaker 3:

And.

Speaker 2:

I also don't want to see the green every time Like fucking this. I don't want to see this shit. I think it's just because it's on.

Speaker 3:

ESPN. If it was on the Golf Channel it could probably have a better consistency time Maybe.

Speaker 2:

Maybe ESPN shows everything College basketball, monday Night Football yeah, all of it. That could be a contracting thing yeah, that could be a contracting thing, but they definitely need to get rid of the fucking speed bump on the green.

Speaker 1:

I would love to see the market research, because you know they're going to be reaching out to people and finding out who watched this and when did you watch it and why did you watch it and how much golf do you watch? I would love to see that data research on who tuned in, what the demographics were. When was their best time that people watched?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and that's the thing, though, with the first season they they're gonna have all that data to like really dive in and make it better. You know they're they're gonna be able to do like actual research and make it better. So you know, severance season one was waiting for severance season two, so tgl is here, and how long can we go without a?

Speaker 1:

severance, uh mention. You know, joe, do you think?

Speaker 4:

it. Do you think it met your expectations, like it lived up to the hype or?

Speaker 2:

uh, it felt a little high yeah, it fell a little flat.

Speaker 2:

I think it was great. I think it, you know, for me, like you know, picking up the kids from school on a monday or Tuesday, having something to look forward to watching on TV, if Monday night football wasn't on or you know something, or a Knights game wasn't on, like you know, I had something to watch that was competitive. So I think it, I think it fits the time well, but, yeah, I think they could do better and I think, with all the data, they're going to figure it out, what they need to do to make it even better. And I think they even they even switch it up halfway through the season to make it even better, to make it more competitive. So, um, no, I, I enjoyed it. Um, it wasn't.

Speaker 2:

As for me, the thing and I've said it for the past five weeks is, for me, it's like when I get home from picking up the kids, I want to watch some competitive golf on a Monday or Tuesday, and that didn't happen every week because it was happening at 1 or 4, and I forgot about it. You know, if I knew it was on at 5. Every Monday, okay, five 30 Monday ESPN Sorry, bunch Bob is cut off. We're watching TGL, and that's the thing I forgot about it sometimes, because it was like, oh it was, it was at three today, it was at four today, it's at seven today, you know, and that's that's where it lost me. If, uh, it was on at the same time every single week. Pick up the kids, get home, give them a snack, turn on TGL I'd watch every week. But I got lost somewhere. Yeah, they got you lost. Yeah, they got me lost. They did Fucking times. They did. It's their fault. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

All right, so TGL, I got too much shit going on.

Speaker 3:

We don't have anything going on besides TGL.

Speaker 2:

I have work, I have kids, I have dinner.

Speaker 1:

The PGA Tour has wrapped up its Florida swing. It's now in Texas. The Masters is very close. Jeremy, thank you for hosting Master Sunday. We have our Master's order for the food is in.

Speaker 1:

That will be coming we will have all the goodies and they don't ship it until the week of it's fresh. That's going to be fun, really looking fresh. So that's gonna be fun, really looking forward to that. Uh, the field for this event is it's really good. It's very surprising. Um, you know, because you got uh this week, then next week and then the master, so uh, you know, a couple weeks. Uh, some guys don't want to play the week before, so this is like their tune-up. Um, scotty's in the field, rory's in the field, uh, a lot of a lot of the top 50. Um, gonna be gonna be a good event and this is a at the public course. This is a public golf course that anybody can go play. Public joke, public joke, public joke. So yeah it. Uh pga tour is kicking off. But what did you think about Phil's comment about Joaquin Neiman being the top player in the world and Scottie's not going to win until the Ryder Cup?

Speaker 2:

I don't mind it too much. I think Joaquin's been grinding for the past two years. He's been playing everywhere he possibly can in the world. He's been winning in places all over the world, so I don't mind it how many majors has he won.

Speaker 4:

Well how many majors?

Speaker 2:

has Scotty won besides the Masters?

Speaker 4:

Two players I mean more than joaquin. I mean I like joaquin, but I mean I major olympic gold and seven wins says a lot.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, okay that I think that.

Speaker 2:

I think that I think that leads to he's able to handle the pressure better than Joaquin. I don't think that leads to Joaquin can't win anywhere.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I don't think so either. I just think the wins that Scottie has won versus what Joaquin has won is a completely different thing in my opinion.

Speaker 2:

Yeah completely different and Scottie hit the bed too. Oh yeah, he's off, so we'll see. I mean, oh yeah, he's off, so we'll see.

Speaker 4:

I'm so stoked. I can't wait. I think Joaquin could compete Like if if he was playing in the same tournaments that Scottie was playing in, or all these other guys, he would be the top, he would win a few, or at least for sure, but they're just held back without having the big events and the ones that count For rankings and all that.

Speaker 1:

Real quick. What's Joaquin's biggest win? Isn't it the Mediterranean mid-am?

Speaker 4:

No like ever, or just this.

Speaker 3:

Yeah just ever. I mean, I don't know, it's something on live.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I mean, payday is different. He won some big ones before he left.

Speaker 4:

But he Genesis Did. He win the Genesis.

Speaker 2:

The thing I love about Joaquin is when they all went to live he was playing in the Australian Open.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he's playing everywhere.

Speaker 2:

He's playing everywhere trying to get the world ranking points to play in the majors. So it's like a grind level to where you know and he was winning some of them. I don't know what it was. It could have been the fucking, you know, south african open or the antarctica open, great courses down there, but um, but do you think you know he was grinding to try and get his world ranking points and he was winning some of those? Do you think he was grinding to try and get his world ranking points and he was winning some of those?

Speaker 1:

Do you think, though, he would have, clearly, if he stayed on the PGA Tour. He's a top talent, so he's going to be in all the big events. He's going to have enough world ranking points where he doesn't have to go to play in the Malaysian Open against a bunch of junior kids from china. I mean, he made his bed. He's got a lie in it, but he still went out and did it.

Speaker 1:

He still went out and did it I know you're trying to open a can of worms right now. No, I'm just saying he didn't have to.

Speaker 2:

He didn't have to, of course not, but he got. He got 20 million or 30 million guaranteed and, uh, he still has the hunger to win. So that shows that he has a level of desire to win big golf tournaments and that's where you can place some money on him and bet on him, because he wants to win and he's proved and showed that I mean right.

Speaker 4:

I mean he's really good, but I just don't think Phil's comments are close. Yeah, I mean he's won four live events since the beginning of last year and two Asian tour events.

Speaker 2:

And that's the year, and two Asian Tour events, and that's the thing. No doubt about it. Pga live tournament stress.

Speaker 1:

And those fields.

Speaker 2:

They're very different, very, very different. The Malaysian and Australian Open are very different than PGA Tour events. But he has gone out and tried to win.

Speaker 2:

Uh and yeah, phil is trying to stay relevant and joaquin wakan naman, as we call him, on the chasing daylight podcast is probably not tuned to what he needs to do with the masters, but he has gone out and tried to tune himself to try and win the masters, which makes him a competitor to win the masters Other than Brooks Koepka, who I have not heard his name talked about in probably a year Been a while.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, or Cam Smith, who was probably the greatest golfer that was on a grind to win every fucking thing that he played in. He's gone, he's non-existent. So at least he is Rom as well. At least he is trying to uphold his competitive status to try and win these things, which gives me the thought that he has the fire to actually win them well, and but also I mean the other guys, phil brooks, bubba rom, they all are playing in the masters.

Speaker 1:

You know, bryson, they're. He's got his exemption from winning the us open for five years, so they don't have to go do it. Joaquin doesn't have those. So you know, had he won the masters, they wouldn't be talking about him. That in that regard.

Speaker 4:

So, I think I would love to see him win the masters, and I think he can't. I mean every year. He would think he's one of the top players to do it, so I would hope he does. Yeah to do it, so I would hope he does yeah, we'll see, it should be interesting another interesting live pga tour dynamic at the masters. Until they be nice, yeah, it'll be nice to. It'll be an irrelevant topic eventually, hopefully, yeah yeah, that's.

Speaker 1:

uh. I don't know if that's ever going to happen. Oops, oopsie, we'll see.

Speaker 2:

We'll see yeah.

Speaker 1:

Well, I don't got anything else.

Speaker 2:

Anybody else got anything else this evening? The only thing I was going to say was I haven't listened to a podcast in a very long time. I've been listening to sports radio because to drown out the kids, but I listened to the latest episode of birdies and bourbon today. Cal is in town, so gonna play piute with him tomorrow. I do have I do have one beef with him. He did call us the breaking daylight podcast, so I will. Whoa, I will give him an earful tomorrow at piuteute.

Speaker 1:

Take back the Whistlepig and get him some Albertson's end cap bourbon.

Speaker 5:

No, I already got it.

Speaker 2:

I got him a store pick from Corey's, so we'll see him at Paiute tomorrow. Chris Torres is joining us.

Speaker 1:

Nice.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, I'm excited. I haven't been to Paiute in a long time. I'm very excited to get out thereaiute in a long time. I'm very excited to get out there. It's been a long time since I've been to Paiute Clean out them.

Speaker 1:

Grooves on that 60, boy. You're going to need it.

Speaker 2:

The dirt makes it spin more. Let's go, let's go. Say hi to Cal and the bourbons and burbles uh podcast bourbon and bubbles bourbon and bubbles bourbon and bubbles podcast bourbon and bubble bath birdies and bubbles uh, hey, weather's gonna be nice tomorrow too, so 92 which is yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean that's later in the afternoon, so you'll be all right in the morning. What time you playing? Playing at 11 11 oh, wow peak sun, yeah, heat of the.

Speaker 1:

Moment make sure to stop into the smoke shop and grab some tax-free Diet Coke.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's a good move, tax-free.

Speaker 1:

Always stock up on the way home. Cheap sodas, cheap sodas, all right. Well, if anybody's done anything else, joe, why don't you wrap this up and we'll get on out of here?

Speaker 2:

Hey, thanks for tuning in chase daylight podcast. Another one checked off your list. Send this to your homies and your family. Your mom would probably love to listen to us, as well as your dad.
