The Chasing Daylight Podcast

323: We survived the windiest golf tournament and all we got were these confusing tee markers.

CHASING DAYLIGHT

Send us a text

Exploring Laughlin Ranch's exceptional desert golf layout tops our agenda this week, as Jeremy and Dan experience this hidden gem for the first time. The course earns unanimous praise from our crew for its strategic design, challenging greens, and memorable finishing stretch. "It's scorable, but it's also a thin line between being scorable and also will whip your ass," Jeremy observes, highlighting the course's perfect balance of accessibility and challenge.

The confusing tee markers spark a heated debate, with Joe frustrated by the identical mining-cart-wheel markers that lack clear color differentiation. "I just wish there was a zinc plating on those T-markers, or a gold plating or a copper plating, because they all look the same," he argues, while others defend the unique mining-themed design. Despite this minor complaint, all agree Laughlin Ranch belongs in their personal top-10 rankings.

We dive into golf equipment reselling on Whatnot, with Joe and Matt sharing both success stories and warnings about potential scams. "If you're not educated, you can fall for that easily," Matt cautions, offering tips for scoring legitimate deals on the increasingly popular platform.

The conversation shifts to Justin Thomas's impressive 61 at Harbortown, with Jeremy providing perspective from having played the notoriously tight course himself. We also recap the recent TopGolf Invitational, where Dan's enthusiastic participation in the alcohol offerings led to some memorable singing across Horizon Ridge. The episode wraps with birthday dinner recommendations for Matt, with Cleaver emerging as the unanimous steakhouse choice.

Speaker 1:

What is up, everybody, and welcome back to another episode of the Chasing the Daylight podcast. I'm back. I'm back on camera. Sorry for all those. Yeah, for now Speaking a little early. That tuned in last week to hear me calling in from the moon. That audio was freaking terrible, oh my god uh so yeah, so it shows you how wet those are.

Speaker 1:

Because what I really sound like is that this has a little bit of amplification to make the bass sound a little deeper. So uh, went, got the, the rodex streamer. I really like it. It's nice, it's compact, it's small, fits on the desk nicely. But there is a little issue with the camera because it's now on an hdmi setting, not usb, and it likes to time out. So I got to keep sure. I make sure I'm still, you know, hitting the camera to make sure it stays on. So, that being said, there are some cool features. It's got this really nice sound effects for your voice. I don't know if we'll ever use it, but it's there.

Speaker 3:

That's the demons on your shoulder when you swing.

Speaker 1:

It reminds me of Keepiefer Sutherland in oh God, why am I drawing a blank? Young Guns.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, the one we were just talking about a couple months ago.

Speaker 4:

She's my butterfly.

Speaker 1:

I'm her flower when they're all on page. It's hilarious.

Speaker 3:

You shouldn't do that in your backswing.

Speaker 4:

What are you doing?

Speaker 3:

You got two seconds to strike the golf ball and you're thinking about this.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 3:

Speaker 1:

The night's game is on. It just started.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 2:

That is epic yeah, you know I did make my first purchase on what not? Yeah, you did, I did first time and I didn't know that you would know that oh well, you used my referral code oh, that's true, that's yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3:

So you're like no, no, I wasn't, I wasn't lurking in the shadows waiting for you. I got a notification that I got like a little uh five dollar bonus or something like that. But yeah, whatnot's taking over man, it's uh, bookmark the next show, yeah did you, did you see, take fives today his video that?

Speaker 1:

oh, oh, yeah, his video yes oh my god yeah, did he buy a warehouse full of golf?

Speaker 3:

no, he no, no, no. So what he did he? He drove like four hours, bought somebody's like full a tour player I think he's on the senior tour player, uh, senior tour and he bought a bunch of their old stuff and uh, he has a warehouse where he films from and that's where he houses it all.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, yeah, I mean I know jason's got at swing. Point has a lot. This was significantly more. Yeah, yeah, like it's crazy, got at Swing.

Speaker 3:

Point has a lot. This was significantly more. Yeah, yeah, it's crazy, man, I don't know how a lot of these guys do it. Dude, I really don't.

Speaker 1:

Ethan's over on IG. Thanks, Ethan, for hanging out with us tonight. Got any questions? Lob him in Throw him in.

Speaker 3:

What is that, ripley Rips? Yeah, joe said that you do sports cards.

Speaker 1:

I have a ton of Jeter stuff that I need to talk with you about. Nobody wants that. Hell yeah, they do. Hall of Famer baby.

Speaker 3:

No. They just want Freddie Freeman stuff. Freddie Freeman only I have a Randy Moss rookie card.

Speaker 1:

That's pretty nice. I got a bunch of Jeter stuff. Bunch of Jeter. A bunch of Jabba Chamberlain that's a name I hadn't heard in a while. For a long time. I'm like God.

Speaker 2:

I can't believe how much I wasted buying cards from java did the cards come with bubble gum when you were a kid?

Speaker 3:

oh yeah, of course they came with uh us bonds probably I didn't seriously more bonds more bonds

Speaker 1:

uh, a stick of gum that like. As soon as you put in your mouth, it shattered into 20 pieces yes, just remember that. I remember that shock yeah, the wax wraps terribly, yeah, but no, yeah, I mean dude, whatnot is uh?

Speaker 3:

whatnot? Uh, so much fun, man, it really is really is Joe and I were watching the.

Speaker 1:

What's his name? Lugosi, lugosi, joe.

Speaker 3:

Lugosi Joe, lugosi Joe.

Speaker 1:

It was hilarious. He had these quantities. He was giving away a lab putter. He's trying to sell all his shit. He's using a lab putter to help him sell his shit. He's like I got 15 of these, so I'm selling them for 52 off and he goes. We gotta sell all 14 of them, though, and he's sold 10. He's like all right, I gotta relist it. Price is going up and nobody buys it. He's like price is going up. He goes going up because it's it's 19 now, it was 12, it's 22 now. I'm not moving until we sell the, and I was like and I was just watching it because the comments were hilarious and he's like shows in and at 6 am and we're at 400 for a hat, I'm not moving it though, dude, it's so funny and like, that's a thing man like, when I started watching a year ago because mass appeal, golf, uh, golf, the homie in Indiana started, he was the guy that got me into it.

Speaker 3:

And it's like, the more you watch, the more you understand what is happening. You know, and you're trying to capitalize on, you know, people's emotions. I mean that's. I mean it's, that's what it is. It's you're capitalizing on people's emotions, like, like, and it's it's so fun just to watch, like, even if you don't buy anything, you just you can sit there and wait for hours just waiting to grab, like something like that's a steal and, uh, it's, it's so funny. And you know I've, and, uh, it's it's so funny. And you know I've I've talked with a lot of those guys and, um, it's really cool and the guys that do it well, do it fucking well very well.

Speaker 3:

Take five is one of them, thrifty golf is one of them. I mean, there there's there's a bunch of guys that do it really well, but the guys that don't do it well, like once you become a educated consumer on the app, you'll see right through it and that's, that's absolutely.

Speaker 1:

We were. We were watching somebody last night and they were selling the Callaway stuff. And so I'm I'm on the Callaway site on my back end looking up my cost on the stuff and what he was saying at list for it it's like so it's, I mean so many people get the wool pulled over their eyes, you know, and that's, that's also the thing right I'm selling them right now. I'm selling blowing them out the door, twenty dollars and shows like they're on the callaway clearance site right now for 10 bucks.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's the thing, man, if you're not educated, I mean you, you can fall for that easily. And, and the thing is, man, if you're not educated, I mean you, you can fall for that easily. And, and the thing is, the buyer's giveaway will help you swipe it, you know. So it's. Uh, you know, the the longer you watch, the more educated you get on the sellers and, um, if you're not into golf, like, like how we are, like we know the price of things because we are golfers and we see it all the time and, uh, if you don't know you're new, like you could be taken advantage of, so just get out there and just get yourself fine, yeah, yeah educated or, or, stick to uh, you know, 2000 adams drivers for $18.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, massey's in here, he's the guy that he's, he's the guy that got me into whatnot, and he, he, he sent me all your stuff.

Speaker 1:

You're the fuck that got us all. Yeah, all right.

Speaker 3:

Now we know yeah, he's the guy. He's the guy spreading the word. Spreading the word, Jake.

Speaker 1:

So, joe, spreading the word jacob. So, joe, when is? When is your next show?

Speaker 3:

I'm planning on sunday, but I mean I don't know if that's gonna happen because inventory is so hard. I don't know how these guys do it. I really don't like. I have some stuff I could sell, but and I'm waiting for dan to uh, I've done a lot for you.

Speaker 1:

Bring stuff over and I just found a waiting for you to bring stuff over. I know you have so much shit oh my god, I just found a bag of stance socks.

Speaker 3:

I'll still have the the cardboard on them, you know yeah, and for you guys, I don't, I don't need anything, uh, you know, a little little finder's fee, maybe a dollar here, a dollar there. But uh, I've been combing offer up, found a guy that has some things and he was like it included a, uh, the star wars episode. What is that? Five, four through six, those are the first star wars right three six.

Speaker 3:

Uh, it's still in, still in the cellophane gold edition, uh. And he was like I'll include that for 50 bucks and it was like a putting mat, an RBZ3, three hybrid and something else. I was like, done, I'll give those. My brother would love those VHS tapes. Then I got a guy that he's got six Vokey wedges, one snapped in half, one is bent. Jeremy, no, sounds like Jeremy one snap in half one is bent um, but yeah, the hunt the hunt.

Speaker 1:

No, it's like. Sounds like jeremy it sounds.

Speaker 3:

It sounded like him, but he lives in inspirata and I'm real curious because it's close to jeremy, so, but no, that that's the thing. The inventory is so hard and how these guys do it. So that's why I need you guys's stuff and I don't need anything out of it. I think it can feed the podcast. I think it could feed the VGN. I think you can feed a hit and greens. I think it could feed 1440. I think it could feed a Dan Foster's pool company. I mean, you know, like it's, it's not necessarily about the money, it's about getting clearing out the closet and and building the scene. So that's what I'm about.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's, it's, it's fun. So I mean, the next one that you do is going to be good, Cause we're going to have a lot of shit on there. So bookmark it, bookmark it bookmark the show. Bookmark the show hook part of the show. Shout out jacob massey, that's the homie indiana. Okay, so, uh, moving on. For whatnot again? Oh, what's this I like, going for twice the price on ebay. Oh yeah, everybody says that oh, this is going for twice this on ebay right now and that's the thing, bro.

Speaker 3:

Like, if you are an educated golfer and an educated watcher of whatnot, you will not fall for the schemes. That's the thing, dude. Like, educate yourself, there's a and uh. You'll find deals. But like, just be careful. I mean, it's car salesman central. I'm not trying to hate on anybody. There's a lot of fantastic sellers on that app, but there's a lot of. There's a lot of fantastic sellers on that app, but there's a lot of shitty ones.

Speaker 3:

Don't let your heart get involved. And don't swipe, hit that custom bid and put a number in that you're willing to pay for it and then do it that way. If you lose it, you lose it. It is what it is, but you just got to be careful because it feeds on emotion, it feeds on exclusivity, it feeds on, like, the natural instinct to want to win something and the buyer's giveaway is great, awesome. You know, if you're willing to spend 30 on a towel that they said was made in uh america, but it was actually made in taiwan, fucking you know, and it's so soft that you could wipe a baby's bottom on it, I mean that's on you.

Speaker 3:

I mean be educated and be willing to lose the money that you put into something and be disappointed when it arrives at your doorstep. That's all it Be educated. It's a gambling app for the most part, but I love it. I love whatnot. I watch it all the time and there's fantastic sellers on there. There really is. You can catch great deals.

Speaker 1:

If a towel feature that gets you excited is how soft it is, you're in the wrong buying market for a golf towel.

Speaker 3:

Golf towel, yeah yeah, you're not drying yourself out the shower, you're wiping with it the softest golf towel I've ever owned yeah, yeah that's the thing, man.

Speaker 1:

Just it's so nice hey, I left this one up there because Rob you got a G in hidden. You got to fix that bro. Hold on where Look on the screen?

Speaker 4:

Look at Rob's quote.

Speaker 3:

I think you can sell the shit out of some hit. Oh, rob, I didn't mess that up, rob did.

Speaker 1:

I know, that's what I said. That's why I left it up there for you to see. Come on, rob. Come on, do be better, rob, be better do better, do better damn it's three zero.

Speaker 3:

Fuck what the hell's going on in the fortress rocky. You shouldn't have been there oh is rocky there tonight yeah, he's there tonight. I think if we would have bought those tickets they would be up three zero now that fabs is there too yeah, oh, fabs gotta go yeah, time to leave okay, so let's get on to laughlin ranch.

Speaker 1:

Um the first 15 minutes of the show brought to you by whatnot, in case you missed that.

Speaker 3:

Um, yeah, I'm hitting greens on whatnot. Go follow, bookmark the show. I'm still I'm gonna try and sell all these other these guys stuff, so you may see they got a lot of shit some of this up there exactly um, okay.

Speaker 1:

So Laughlin, ranch, joe and I had played it last year in April Jeremy and Dan, first time out there. What were your thoughts on the? The win sucked. We can talk about how shitty the win was all day long, but I want to hear your thoughts on the golf course and what you thought of it and how you thought it played.

Speaker 2:

So either way fire away so, either way, fire away. Um, I'm I'm gonna say like with ease it's in the top 10 rankings. For me the course was spectacular. I thought I mean it was very difficult. There was some holes that are really you don't find a lot of risk reward holes at some of the courses here in town. There was a few of those there where you can really, if it's worth it for you to try to take that risk, it will pay off. Fortunately it didn't for me. But so many good holes. It's scorable, but it's also it's kind of a thin line of being scorable and also will whip your ass. So I mean, some of us maybe had some of that and, dan, you played really well I think. For the most part I think you played it really well for yeah, he won he won I mean he won.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but he didn't. Dan's, and he'll talk about that himself. But dan didn't mess up, it was just he couldn't get it going early. But we, that's the kind of course that is like. The greens were tough, the speed was hard to get used to. Um, not seeing it I mean seeing it for the first time is always difficult, especially when you just jump right into a tournament and you're expected to kind of be aggressive. And. But I love that place, man, it's worth the drive. I would go down there more often for sure. I don't mind it. I don't know what the what they normally charge. It seemed like it was pretty expensive when we checked. But such a sick course, I love it. I'm gonna go down there. I want to get down there soon again without the wind it's such a you're right, it's such a neat golf course dan.

Speaker 4:

Dan, what was your thoughts? Um, yeah, I totally agree with uh, with uh, jeremy. Um, I had honestly no idea what to expect. Um, it's definitely more contours and hillier than I thought it would be. Um, I thought the greens were actually pretty awesome because they're not very big and, like like jeremy said, with the short par fours, like it could be risk reward, but but even though those holes aren't tough, those greens make that hole tough and if you put it on the wrong spot on those short par fours, it's a hell of an up and down. I mean, making fours is a good score sometimes on a couple of those little short par fours, I'm really curious what you guys think.

Speaker 3:

So they looked really fast but they were actually fairly slow how they looked. And Dan, you playing Donald Ross courses. Little Donnie Ross, there was some Donnie Ross out there on those greens.

Speaker 4:

There's definitely some Ross for sure, ross inspirations on those greens.

Speaker 4:

Ross are just wild. Yeah, just saying yeah, yeah, the the. I will say the first, like seven or eight holes putting was kind of getting frustrating because I was still trying, like some of the, some of the holes would look like downhill and some like uphill but they would do the complete opposite. Like one put on the first par three, I like a 35 foot putt, uphill putt, I mean, and that thing looks straight uphill. The hole was like eye level with me, yeah. So I hit a putt and I hit it 20 feet past. I was like what the fuck just happened? Like I hammered it by and a couple of times, uh, I had putts that just looked like they were going to be so fast and I hit them like three or four feet short.

Speaker 4:

So the first, like six or seven holes, you know I was just like, oh my god, dude, like these greens are, you know they were. I was frustrated with them. But once you kind of figured out you know everything where the river's at you do you have to play the wind too a little bit. I think the wind was strong enough. We had to incorporate that. So once I stopped like overthinking so much on how to hit him and just was just kind of went with what was presented at me at the time, say, okay, hit here, aim here and hit it. I actually started putting a lot better and uh, but it was great, man, I love that golf course. Uh, I definitely want to play it again.

Speaker 4:

12, the whole 12 sucks, um yeah I hate that hole, I hate that hole now that I played that like there was, there's no way you should ever go for it. It should just be a four or five.

Speaker 3:

I think it's a great hole, though, because it's right there towards the end and it makes you think. I mean, I don't like it because every time I've played it, I've fucked it up.

Speaker 4:

Matt, you even gave me a heads up about it. You're like this hole here, it's not like what you think. Off the tee, even gave me a heads up about it. You're like that. This whole here it's not like what you think. Off the tee, you see one thing, but once you get over that knob, you're like what?

Speaker 3:

the hell, and that's exactly what happened yeah, when you can even drive up. I I had played there before and I said, hey, greg, uh, let's drive up there, I want to see it.

Speaker 1:

And I still fucking shit the bed on that one, yeah yeah when you're standing there it's so wide open and know most of what you see is not where you want to be. It's great architecture, great design, but I love the finishing holes. The finishing holes are fantastic. Drive a short, you got a challenging par four. Then you've got a drivable par four. You've got a long par three and a fantastic've got a drivable par four. You've got a long par three and a fantastic par five.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the last hole was sick.

Speaker 1:

Oh, it's such a good closing hole.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it reminds me a lot of the private courses here, like Southern Highland Style or Shadow, that feel I think a few of those holes have. We were trying to compare it to something else. It's tough, it's like a hybrid of those holes have I was, we were trying to compare it to something else it's like a. It's like a hybrid of, like rio seiko and a bunch of courses in one.

Speaker 3:

It's crazy to me to me it reminds me of like revere meets mesquite.

Speaker 1:

That's like how I categorize it to it. Yeah, lexicon was built on the, the hills of mesquite one thing that's what we said too like real meat the hills of mesquite.

Speaker 3:

One thing that's what we said too, like we owe me to mesquite how, how confusing was it for you guys being there for the first time with how the layout of the cart path was, because it still confused me a little bit. And it's like, oh no, we're going that way. And even when you go into that bridge you're like, oh, I go left, no, I go right, and it's like you know you go you know?

Speaker 1:

yeah, you got to read the signs it's sign heavy, very sign heavy what up, mark? Yeah, he said uh, laughlin ranch architect is the co-architect of dragon ridge. Oh, we got a dragon, I believe it I believe it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, I think I did.

Speaker 3:

I mean it's. I wish it was closer. I mean it's not super far away from us, but it's. It's a great golf course.

Speaker 2:

It really is it really is amazing too, like the practice facility awesome, yeah, yeah I love the little turn shack.

Speaker 1:

It's kind of like, uh, what moorhead is at revere now with having the little turn shack right there at the range with bathrooms and you don't have to walk all the way back to the clubhouse to go to the bathroom like you have to do with a lot of places around here. I know that because I've been spending a lot of time on the ranges and I tell you, ranges need bathrooms.

Speaker 4:

I like the golf bridges. There too, they were good bridges.

Speaker 3:

Oh great golf bridges also did you guys notice?

Speaker 4:

uh god, what hole was that?

Speaker 2:

uh early.

Speaker 4:

Well, no, besides the tall flags, it was on one of those holes, it was on the short one, the mine shaft that second. Yeah, the mine shaft, yeah, exactly, yeah, um, that's four.

Speaker 3:

I thought that's why you gotta look back. You gotta look back sometimes yeah, that's.

Speaker 4:

I thought that was a cool little touch to see all that shit out there.

Speaker 1:

I had a fantastic chip shot from in front of the mine to about a foot. It was beautiful.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, dude, it's such a good golf course. I wish it was closer because I'd play it more often. My only complaint is the cart path layout. That's it. That's. My only complaint is the cart path layout. That's it. That's yeah, that's my only complaint about that place it's so confusing, but yeah, you do incredible course I, but I like how they the all the t markers are the same on every t box.

Speaker 1:

They're all. No, they all look the same.

Speaker 3:

They all look the same as what you mean. Zinc looks like gold and it also looks like silver.

Speaker 1:

They're all oxidized the t markers that you hit on, that you hit between, on every t box are exactly the same, but they have signs oxidized.

Speaker 3:

And then look, they do have the signs.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yeah, the signs. They have poles that say zinc, silver, gold and they have different slots for those poles to go in.

Speaker 3:

I just wish they were painted Because they look the same. The T-markers look the same.

Speaker 1:

They are the same they're the same.

Speaker 4:

They're the little minor cartwheels.

Speaker 3:

Get some Krylon.

Speaker 1:

No, that's what makes it so unique, dude, you know how many times I was like are we? On the right T-box. Are we on the right box? Are we on the right t-box? Are we sure I think we read this time I like that touch too. I like it. How many golf courses have you seen that and where they have poles that you can move from it?

Speaker 4:

was unique.

Speaker 3:

It was unique to the whole mining, you know it was, it was, it was, but all the t-markers were the same.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 4:

What do you want? Do you want each T marker to be different?

Speaker 3:

No, I felt like I didn't want to get DQ'd. We're playing in a tournament. I felt like I might be on the wrong T box because I couldn't distinguish the color of the T markers. I mean, yes, we see it there on the zinc sign.

Speaker 4:

I asked multiple times.

Speaker 3:

I was like are we on my?

Speaker 4:

jameson stash there, because you're getting confused on that, golf course, oh bro, I had.

Speaker 1:

I had seven bottles you see the gold sign. Now you look for the zinc sign.

Speaker 3:

It's not that hard yeah, but with with moving the t-boxes around, I just I had to ask a couple times. I'm like, are you sure we're on zinc? And I had to go walk back to the sign because the t markers all look the same. That's my only thing is all that all the all the t markers are the same color. So you got to look out for the little sign that says zinc, spelled in uh calligraphy on in metal this reminds me of the conversation I had with Dan after Dragon Ridge.

Speaker 3:

Look, I like the way they do it. I like the way they do it. I just wish there was a zinc plating on those T markers, or a gold plating or a copper plating, because they all look the same, that's all.

Speaker 1:

I'm saying Mike says zinc doesn't look like gold Joe.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I get it Shut up beautiful golf courses but no, that's a thing I mean. When you're teeing off and you're in a tournament, there's no confirmation you're on the right tee box. Any other time time I could care less, but I don't want to get DQ'd for playing the wrong tee box, which has happened to Jeremy, right? It's happened to Jeremy Dan, right. Were you playing?

Speaker 2:

reflection yeah, no, that's all I'm saying.

Speaker 3:

I'm just looking for some confirmation that I'm on the right tee box instead of walking towards the cart path and making sure we're asking someone else. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 1:

Well, other than that fantastic attention. There's a sign that tells you what box is agree to disagree.

Speaker 4:

I know that.

Speaker 1:

I know that Agree to disagree.

Speaker 3:

I like that, but other golf courses. You drive up and you know okay, there's our box right there. You don't have to look for a sign behind a bush. You're like that's the color of our tee box.

Speaker 4:

I think you're right, rob. I think you're right. He knew he was a good person, so that's why he really didn't want to be.

Speaker 3:

Well, I played with Rob, I played with Rob. So, yeah, I was locked in, I played fairly well and you know, it was those moments where it was like I haven't played like that in a long time and I'm not used to it, and I just wanted to confirm I was where I was supposed to be I got and I feel it in my soul, so I knew where I was supposed to be. But I just wanted confirmation at times. That's all it is.

Speaker 1:

Uh, okay uh, justin thomas, want to give some love to justin thomas and his, his new cad. Well, it's not new Caddy, but for playing at Harbortown. He shot a 61, another course record. His list of course records is very impressive. That was put out over the weekend. Jeremy, you have played Harbortown. How impressive is a 61 from those tees.

Speaker 2:

Very, because that place is super tight. I mean, he generally hits it pretty straight, I mean. But the greens is the craziest part, though, because the greens look flat and they're tiny, super tiny greens and they're just difficult, like when I was there, it was after the tournament, a few weeks after, and they were still fast, but like the practice green, they still had it tournament speed and it was ridiculously fast. Like you can put it off the green.

Speaker 1:

They didn't look good on TV. They were a little, yeah, they looked baked.

Speaker 4:

They looked a little baked.

Speaker 1:

A lot of brown pass. I was like they zoomed in on a couple shots. I'm like that doesn't look good at all, but you know it's TV so it's hard to justify, but I I'm sure I mean it looked great from what I watched, the course yeah, the course is.

Speaker 2:

It's like it's really target golf, like you have to hit it. There's some holes you where you can go after it. It's a little wide open, but most of the time you have to hit specific shots, like off the tee into greens, like around, around the trees it's. It's like the shot he hit with his three wood over the tree on that par five, I think, 15. That's insane because that those trees are freaking high. Those are like the tallest trees I've ever seen. And they he just they just hit it over it. I couldn't hit it over it, I had to go around. But hitting a fairway over that is crazy. So those guys are good. There's just a different game. Like me shooting a 78 from the tournament tees, I was like thrilled. But those guys is not even the same thing. I mean 17 shots better.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's a shot off. Could you even imagine finding 17 more shots?

Speaker 2:

no, and I played like that was like one of the best rounds in quite some time. I don't know where I would make, maybe on the green, for sure they're fucking good man.

Speaker 1:

They're good, yeah, hey uh want to ask everybody please send some good vibes uh, matt boyd's way on his way to California right now. His wife's going through some stuff and we want to make sure positive vibes are sent out to him and his family. We got your brother Anything, let us know. Hopefully you're not driving while you're watching us on the drive to California. You are Just listen. Please Don't watch Bright line, bright line.

Speaker 3:

Bright line's coming, bright line's coming, please don't watch Bright line.

Speaker 1:

Bright line's coming. Mr Jackson's in the Instagram. How you doing.

Speaker 2:

Steve Jax.

Speaker 1:

He was a participant yesterday at the Topgolf Invitational. That was a lot of fun. We had a good time. Dan had a great time.

Speaker 4:

As.

Speaker 3:

Dan usually does.

Speaker 2:

It was a scramble right.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was a scramble. There were 25 teams out there. They had some nice gift bags, got a nice polo, a nice backpack, a dozen balls. What's the Flavor Toothpick brand, Joe that, you know the guy.

Speaker 3:

Number 33.

Speaker 1:

Number 33, Golf Flavor Some of those on the carts, which fantastic flavor, great little.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, if you chew on a tea, those things are fantastic. I don't chew on teas typically, but if you typically put a tea in your mouth and just let it hang out, great flavor. I had one in my mouth for the rest of the whole day.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they're good. And they also had a lot of alcohol, a lot of alcohol in the tea boxes. And yeah, dan participated heavily in that alcohol. He drank my share, his share, maybe a little fosters, maybe a little jacksons, uh, but yeah, he, he was having a good time. Uh, dan is a very happy, intoxicated individual. I will never forget.

Speaker 3:

You started singing Pennywise. What were you singing? Nirvana, nirvana.

Speaker 1:

He wasn't screaming. The people that work on Horizon Ridge, they could hear, dan, was it just?

Speaker 4:

reverberates through the canyon there nicely, so I just took advantage of the acoustics. Yeah, Steve Aoki was there. He was over there throwing birthday cakes and shit at people.

Speaker 1:

Steve Aoki said I want to get married again, just so I can invite Dan to the wedding.

Speaker 2:

Who the chorus was in good shape though.

Speaker 1:

Oh, it was in great shape. It was in great shape. I haven was in great shape.

Speaker 1:

It was in great shape so long, man, it's into the green recently and like in two weeks, that place is going to be the bees, that's gonna be titties, because it was, uh, it was fantastic, um, great conditions. We made a ton of long putts and missed a bunch of short putts. We turned in a 60 that very easily could have been a 56 or 55, with the putts that we missed that we should have made. They were tricky, they were tricky, we left. The leader was a 50. Jeez.

Speaker 1:

Yeah that's bullshit. Yeah, there's no way. I mean, the greens were way too hard for that to happen. How did you guys play the 10th? We all hit driver. Oh wait, yeah, we all hit driver. I was just in front of the rocks, in front of the green. We had like a 60-yard flop shot over the rocks. Dan Foster hit his a little bit too far right, Steven Jackson his kind of peeled off and was back in the fairway a little bit and something I'd never, ever seen happen before Dan topped his drive.

Speaker 4:

Oh wow, I was going for it. I hit a lot of bad drives. I was over-swinging for the whole day.

Speaker 3:

You got a crew to back you up. You got people to back you up.

Speaker 1:

He did hit a very impressive 350-yard stinger on number eight. It was a beaut it was.

Speaker 2:

Julian-esque number 10 is the, in my opinion, is the worst hole on that golf course.

Speaker 3:

It's the 12 of Laughlin Ranch. That's what it is.

Speaker 4:

I would rather play 12 of Laughlin than 12 it's the dumbest fucking hole in the state it really is.

Speaker 1:

I don't know. I mean I hit driver and then hit a 58-degree wedge that bounced off the flagstick and we had a six-foot putt. I think it's a great hole.

Speaker 2:

I just don't like. At least at 12 at Laughlin you can kind of see where to hit it sort of on 10. You have no idea, it's all I get there it's.

Speaker 1:

It's like it's just, it's like 10 at lex. It's like okay, they, everybody says the house with the solar panels, let's go there, you know. So there it's like everybody says hit it over the rocks. Yeah, that's true, with matt is rolling the lab putter, you're gonna throw the top of the drive to us as a partner because, if you stroke with the lab.

Speaker 3:

That's not happening anytime soon company man, company man watch out, watch out well, hey, hey, we do have some.

Speaker 1:

He's rocking the lab counterfeit we do have some good wood headed our way. So yeah, let's go. We'll be chatting about that shortly. Shout out to he.

Speaker 4:

Uh, he had the closest to the pin for a while for a while we. We came in and somebody knocked it. To what was it? Matt eight inches 11 inches 11 inches. That's what it was.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I was like oh lion ass, yeah, 11 inches, yeah, and the long drive was 375 yeah yeah, there were some big boys out there, that's the whole thing 350-yard drive-on.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, hammered it and still way, way short Scramble tournaments are so interesting because you win, everyone thinks you're lying anyway. You know, even when we defeated Derek Carr at Southern Highlands, like people still probably thought we were lying, you know, and it's scrambles are like there's no way, that's out there, that's not going to happen. You know, it's like I enjoy. For me when I play in scramble tournaments. It's just like to get out there.

Speaker 1:

But man, man, some people were having fun, it was, it was a great day, because there was no, there was no wind, there was just a little breeze here and there, nothing crazy. Um, it was nice chatting with all the people that were out there. We saw alex brown, he was out there, and lindsey hoskins from, uh, top golf, she was out there. My boss was out there. Um, um, saw Trey from legacy and I mean just a bunch of people, a couple of customers that have bought clubs from us, uh, getting fit, were there and you know it was, it was a good time. It was a good time.

Speaker 1:

The cat was there, yeah, the the tiramisu. Oh, oh, my god, that was the best tiramisu I've ever had. It was phenomenal, absolutely amazing. So but yeah, um, dan, you want to get into a little bit more about it or you want to save that for some other time?

Speaker 4:

no, I think we got the gist of it your boy got a little sloppy, that's all. Matt had my back, took my keys from me, so we're all good.

Speaker 3:

Dan has a great time.

Speaker 4:

Along with golf. You know you gotta make some swing changes in golf, but I think I'm gonna make some life changes, so we're good to go.

Speaker 1:

Yes, no, dan. Dan is a very happy drunk, and that's me I'm a when I was drinking. I'm a happy drunk and that's me when I was drinking.

Speaker 2:

I'm a happy drunk.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, there's a little switch that happened and kind of scared us for a little bit, so we weren't sure what was going on.

Speaker 3:

Dan's one of the greatest guys I've ever known, so life changes everything.

Speaker 4:

In moderation, folks. If you're out there listening, don't do too much shit out there don't eat sugar every night.

Speaker 3:

Don't eat sugar every night.

Speaker 1:

I told him. I said you're going to have to fast for a week actually I'm good already.

Speaker 4:

I haven't really done anything today, so come tomorrow I'll be ready to go. I got to do blood tests on Monday too. Anyway, actually I'm good already. I haven't really done anything today. Tomorrow I'll be ready to go.

Speaker 1:

I got to do blood tests on Monday too. Anyway, anybody got anything else. I mean there's not a lot going on. The Knights are on Second period just started.

Speaker 3:

They're losing, they're fucking losing.

Speaker 1:

What the fuck? What's the score Full?

Speaker 3:

throttle or no throttles is what Stevie Jacks said.

Speaker 1:

Stevie Jacks was in a drawing for a Sun Cruiser bike Sun.

Speaker 3:

Cruiser bike.

Speaker 1:

We got a bunch of teaboxes.

Speaker 4:

I thought the girl was going to ride off the teabox. She almost crashed People say it's as easy as riding a bike. Not for this chick.

Speaker 1:

Steve and I got in the car and he's like what is she doing? I was like dude, she almost rolled it off the tee box. Yeah, and those tee boxes are, you know, it's not grass on the outside of them, it's box.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's. Yeah, it's like jeremy at black desert, just yeah, oh, that story was talking about that story. I believe it.

Speaker 1:

I believe it usually is. Dan slipped on the rocks a couple times. Okay, I did. Yeah, I got a little.

Speaker 4:

I got a little uh blood mark on my uh my shin right now oh, do you really story? You got a little story yeah, I didn't feel it, but I did this morning.

Speaker 1:

I didn't feel it then yeah, yep, oh, oh, goodness, all right, um, awesome. Thanks for all the questions, everybody.

Speaker 1:

Uh, you guys are the best shout out to our elusive audience, I mean with all the flood of questions we'll maybe lead with that the day of instead of as the show starts. Get some people out there. I got. Oh, hey, you know what? It's my birthday right now on the east coast. So happy birthday to me happy birthday. Happy birthday, got a little birthday around. Tomorrow jeremy's joining me and trey and john cap, a new vgm member, gonna go. Uh, bully our way around legacy and uh, yeah, then go have a nice dinner with fam where are you going, yeah?

Speaker 1:

I don't know, yet I haven't decided. Give me, give me some options. What do you got? What do you give me a place I'm gonna like I'll write them down.

Speaker 3:

Go to herbs and rye herbs and ever heard of rebellion pizza, oh yes, I haven't.

Speaker 1:

Isn't herbs and rye that in the in the like spring mountain area that's like impossible to get into it's?

Speaker 3:

uh, sahara and valley view, that's too cool. You know I don't like going north of the trop, that's right. There's a really good taco truck and truck, uh, taco truck in southern highlands.

Speaker 1:

Get that up no, I need uh send me suggestions, I there's go. No, I need uh send me suggestions, I there's go. No, I need uh send me suggestions, I there's go. Fancy olive garden hey, unlimited breadsticks.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 1:

Speaker 3:

That's great pasta.

Speaker 1:

It depends what you want.

Speaker 2:

I'm a steak guy Steak.

Speaker 1:

I'm a steak guy. I don't want a $500 steak.

Speaker 3:

What you need to do is go. I'm totally against steakhouses. Go, buy a sick-ass steak from Butcher Shop. Cook it yourself. It's going to be just as good, or better. Have some time alone. Enjoy the weather, cook it how you like, because you're going to spend that much at a steakhouse? I?

Speaker 1:

know, but I sometimes I do the cooking every night in this household.

Speaker 3:

Everybody else can cook. You cook your steak, you just cook your steak, enjoy yourself.

Speaker 1:

Very birthday party. Hey, I'm going to go cook a steak.

Speaker 3:

Leave me the fuck alone for a little while. Please, Exactly what's better.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to go to the butcher block and say I got a $100 bill, I want a steak. One steak For myself, yep, for myself.

Speaker 3:

They have one.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, I know they do.

Speaker 3:

Everybody else gets Chinese takeout. You eat, you eat, you eat a steak Trader Joe's orange chicken. And then you just get a big fried rice. You eat the fried rice with steak and you're good. I agree with.

Speaker 2:

Rob, I was just going to say that, do a Brazilian.

Speaker 1:

Have, and you're good. I agree with Rob. I was just going to say that Do a Brazilian, have you guys eaten at the Brazilian Steakhouse that is at the Galleria Mall? I've heard really good things about it.

Speaker 2:

Which one is that? Cortesio Grill?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think it's in the mall, it's on the outside at the mall.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's good, I haven't eaten at that one. They have the same thing in Utah. You, it's good, I haven't eaten at that one. They have the same thing in Utah. You usually leave there with meat sweats. It's good, I would recommend that. What about like a?

Speaker 4:

Michael's or Anthony's Prime or something like that In the Am or in South Point. That way you don't have to go too far.

Speaker 3:

See, that's the thing I think. You can get so much. You can just cook it yourself and have just as good or better.

Speaker 4:

You're right, get so much, you can just cook it yourself and have just as good. I know, are you right, joe?

Speaker 1:

but he doesn't want to cook you just said that you're absolutely right every fucking night yeah okay all right, yeah, you get an opportunity to not give the kids a bath and put them down. You could just chill. You're gonna go to the neighbor's house and be there.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna go cook a steak in the backyard and chip on my pudding green that I have in the backyard. Absolutely. You can go bathe your neighbor's kids. Yeah, I'm going to go do that.

Speaker 1:

Hey Joe, can you come walk my kids and bathe them, since you don't have anything to do tonight? It's all you've been doing for six months.

Speaker 3:

Just hit Dude.

Speaker 2:

I'm Joe, just cook a steak, grill a steak for him, joe.

Speaker 3:

I'll grill a steak for you if you need it absolutely if you need it I'll do it yeah why the hell?

Speaker 3:

well well done. Charred meat well done. Want that? Well done. How do you want it? Medium rare? I'll sit here forever.

Speaker 1:

Well done that voice is something else. I may have too much fun with that.

Speaker 3:

I do think that Henderson, our area where we live, is missing some restaurant options.

Speaker 1:

I do believe that it's a lot better now than it was.

Speaker 3:

It is. No, there's great spots, but like you just need an outback and you're good.

Speaker 1:

Hey, they're opening Longhorn Steakhouse by sunset texas roadhouse matt oh yeah, we go there all the time, though, oh okay.

Speaker 2:

Do you want ethnic food? You want to try some asian, or no, dude he wants a steak.

Speaker 3:

Yep, chris Torres took me there. He paid for my food. I still owe him lunch. One of these days. Shout out to Chris Torres.

Speaker 2:

World famous. They have like six different Cuban sandwiches. All of them are so good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, he said it's fire fast casual, but uh, yeah, it's good stuff it's a good family spot may have to do that, expand the uh fam's horizons, because the taste of miami, texas, roadhouses, youhouses, kind of getting worn out. Just go to.
