325: Discovering the Soul of Coyote Springs and the Odyssey Putter Phenomenon

CHASING DAYLIGHT

Send us a text

Golf is about finding what truly works for you - whether that's the right putter, the perfect course challenge, or that one magical shot that keeps you coming back for more.

This week, we dive deep into the surprising reality of equipment choices on the PGA Tour, revealing that despite Scotty Cameron's cult following among amateurs, the best putters in professional golf overwhelmingly choose Odyssey mallets. Our analysis of the top 25 strokes-gained leaders challenges conventional wisdom and might make you reconsider what belongs in your bag.

The conversation pivots to course conditions as we explore Coyote Springs' dramatic transformation. The maintenance team has allowed rough around bunkers to grow to punishing heights, creating "automatic penalties" for players who miss the fairway. This approach has turned an already challenging course into an even more formidable test - one that will humble even the most confident golfers. We compare its value against Piute, weighing factors beyond just price to help you decide which desert gem deserves your next tee time.

Dan shares the story of his recent albatross (or double eagle, depending on your preference), a statistical rarity even more uncommon than a hole-in-one. His driver-pitching wedge combination on a par 5 serves as a reminder that golf's most magical moments often arrive unexpectedly.

We also touch on Scottie Scheffler's dominant performance at the CJ Cup, where he tied the PGA Tour scoring record, and critique the disappointing television coverage of the recent Black Desert tournament that failed to showcase one of America's most visually stunning courses.

Whether you're debating your next equipment purchase, planning a Las Vegas golf trip, or simply looking for insights into what makes a golf course truly great, this episode delivers the perfect combination of practical advice and pure golf appreciation. Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Chasing Daylight Podcast. Too much fun at that. What is up everybody? Welcome to another episode of the Chasing Daylight Podcast. My name is Matt, also known as 1440G. Golf on the gram, jeremy's with us, dan's with us, joe's with us, joe's in another buyer's giveaway, so he's manning the whatnot channel, so how how is everybody doing this evening?

Speaker 2:

good, yeah, you're right good, great yeah good, yeah, you're right.

Speaker 3:

Good, great, yeah, joe, what are you? What are you trying to win? Uh, shout out thrifty golf dmv. Uh he, uh. I bought a tr shaft a little bit ago on auction and uh, he's gonna give away to anybody that bought in the auction. Uh, a scotty cameron phantom 8, I believe, or a bernardi bb 23, I believe in plastic thrifty golf.

Speaker 1:

There's so many good channels out there, so and man I tell you there's, it's a, it's a wormhole you can get uh heavily and very in, very easily. Very easily. I was watching a pool channel last night. I'm like shit, I've been watching this for an hour.

Speaker 3:

I have bought like five knives in the past week.

Speaker 1:

Oh, shit they're dope.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but they're dope.

Speaker 1:

All right, rocky, thanks so much for tuning in on Instagram. We really appreciate you being here for the show. Anybody's watching on youtube. If you want to comment, please do, and we'll share those comments with the other uh, you know viewers of the show. I also want to get some love to the golf stop, the indoor track man facility located in west henderson in the saint rose corridor. Be sure to go check them out if you're.

Speaker 1:

The heat is coming, he is coming for sure uh, they're, uh, those times will be filling up even faster now. Um and uh, yeah, roars golf and lots of things all superstore. Those are the people that love, oh, and scott russo, of course, for allowing us to use that intro harmonic, uh. So a quick rundown of some of the things that we may or may not be talking about tonight, cause, you know, sometimes she goes off the rails. Big congrats to Yana Wilson for her victory over the weekend at its Spanish trail, for her first career professional win on the Epson tour. She'll be in the LPGA field for Liberty National, which she's an ambassador for. Scotty Scheffler won before the Ryder Cup, to the chagrin of Phil Mickelson. He dominated, absolutely dominated, had a birdie to shoot the best score in a PGA Tour event ever, but he tied it.

Speaker 1:

Black Desert refuses to have any good coverage of any tournament that they have out there. Coyote Springs we were out there. It's in absolutely fantastic shape. We haven't been out there. Get out there right now because the course is in great shape and had some crazy wind in the valley valley and some crazy weather yesterday too. So, yeah, yeah. Robbie nicks on the youtube what's joe going to do with that phantom? That head cover is not allowed in his bag. That's a great point, joe.

Speaker 3:

What are you gonna do with that? For sure, yeah, no, I will sell it on my whatnot show. I'm sure uh rob rob was deep in the trenches with me yesterday watching people make ball markers.

Speaker 1:

So uh, yeah big slim, he was out, out in the out there big slim was sending me messages saying you need to do this, team up with joe would do this, and I I meant to write it back but I never did. I was gonna tell him. I said you know I make enough mistakes doing it just by myself. So God forbid, live people bidding on it and I have to make it in front of them.

Speaker 1:

That could not go well, but no, maybe we'll do it. I don't know, we'll see. Yeah, maybe one day, maybe one day. I do have a bunch of blank ball markers right now, so it is something that we could do, but you may have to do it really much.

Speaker 3:

I got all my shit over here. The Goodwill around the corner. I came up on a very nice Foot Joy XL shirt with the Spanish Trail logo on the sleeve embroidered. So shout out, yana for that one. I mean I had to grab it. It was like six bucks, you know. Very clean.

Speaker 1:

What's the golf club selection been in there, because it's never good.

Speaker 3:

In Goodwill. Yeah, it's trash. I did grab a slotted Ping Answer an old one but you're not going to find anything good. I think they have people that monitor, like, what's going out to the stores. Um, I've even been to the goodwill like the bins. You know the bins where they just dump stuff, the clearance place? Um no, it's always old stuff, it's always never, never any the slotted ping answer is pretty cool yeah, somebody, somebody.

Speaker 1:

Uh didn't know what that was. So what's up, miles, thanks for joining the ig chat um brown in the house miles brown in the house. Um. So let's talk coyote first, because that's where we were at. Well, Dan played. Hey, congrats on your albatross. Sir.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

There we go.

Speaker 1:

That's your first career albatross. Yeah, first, one that's surprising as far as you hit the ball.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, but still, there's a lot of luck involved in that one.

Speaker 1:

Oh, of course there is, but I mean so, let's tell us about the shot, let's go over it.

Speaker 4:

I mean an albatross is kind of a big deal.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it was, I forget what hole 14 or something like that, 13 or 14. What course Over there on the Sun Mountain, par 5. Hit a big drive. It was downwind but hit a big drive. I think Ty was probably like 360 out, I was like 345, 350. So we both hit pretty good bombs out there. And then, um, yeah, I had 165, uh, 158 was the cover over the bunker and with all that wind I was just like you know what. I think it's just a high pitching wedge and I hit it and it went right at the flag and took one bounce about four feet short and the second bounce was past the pin and we could just see it kind of rolling towards the hole and it just disappeared and kind of you got to see it go.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we actually could see it from the fairway so yeah, we all kind of went nuts, we went nuts and then, you know, the camera came out by the time I got to the green.

Speaker 1:

That's awesome, that's always so cool. It was unexpected too, because Trey's a good looker now.

Speaker 4:

Well, yeah, so far he's been there for the hole-in-one and the albatross, but yeah it was unexpected too, because I was not playing well. I hit a lot of bad shots, yeah, and all of a sudden that happened.

Speaker 3:

In Albie it's harder to hit than an ace, I think Statistically that's what they say.

Speaker 1:

It's hard to get to the green for a lot of players. What a flex. I had an albatross driver then pitching wedge yeah, all right, still it's a two on a par five it's a two.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it was a cool moment.

Speaker 1:

It was a cool moment, for sure how was, uh, how was piute in that wind? It's, you know it never played out there in wind, I don't know what it's like yeah, I mean, uh, you know how that is, but uh, it's just, it's awesome did they give you?

Speaker 3:

a headdress or anything for that or like any?

Speaker 4:

no, no, I didn't get nothing. No table Table Copa. Pelly mask no, peace pipe nothing.

Speaker 3:

Oh man, no little bag of peyote or nothing man.

Speaker 1:

You got to step up their game. I know You're just 10% off at the weed store.

Speaker 4:

Right, can you give me a coupon or nothing?

Speaker 3:

Yeah, a coupon for new at least. Come on now.

Speaker 1:

So, dan, since you've played coyote springs and piute on back to back days, everybody knows those are two of our favorite places to play golf at out here. What would you say, uh, is the better value right now, and take into consideration I know a lot of people that aren't from around here are going to freak out because piute's charging 300 bucks for golf right now, but we, you know, have, uh, our ways of getting reduced rates out there, so, uh, it's a little bit more comparable for us on price point. What would you say is more valuable?

Speaker 4:

well, um, that's a good question, I, I think. I think right now that's a man, that's that's a good call, because coyote Springs is in really good shape. But the thing about coyote Springs is, even though it's cheaper to play right now, you still got to drive an hour out there to get out there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

And some people are going to hate that course, you know, because those greens will kick you in the teeth and a lot of people don't find the value in that, you know, while people like us would be like hell. Yeah, you know, like you know, it is what it is and but for the most part we enjoy those greens and we know, we know we're not going to have a straight putt ever. We know it's going to be tough to even two putt out there. But with piute you also have, you know, a little bit pricier but it's a little bit more. I think pi it's just always more consistently in good shape. So you, you know what you're going to get when you go to piute. It's always going to be in good shape. The greens are always going to be pretty good. They they're usually just as fast, if not faster, than Coyote Springs are, if you're into fast greens, and also a lot less subdued so people can enjoy them more. You can actually have them and stuff.

Speaker 4:

But yeah, so it just depends on what you value in a golf course. But overall, right now, I mean that's a tough call. If I had to pick one, I'm going to go with Coyote Springs right now, only because Paiute's always in that shape and is very rare where Coyote Springs is like super, super tits, like it is right now.

Speaker 1:

Fair point.

Speaker 4:

So you know I'm going to go with Coyote Springs.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, they're punching soon.

Speaker 1:

Tuesday I think they started.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Speaker 4:

You might not want to go to Coyote.

Speaker 1:

Springs right now. Don't go right now.

Speaker 4:

Next two weeks, two, three weeks.

Speaker 1:

Rob, you haven't had a question. Side question Does anyone prefer calling it a double eagle over albatross?

Speaker 2:

Double eagle.

Speaker 1:

Double eagle, jeremy. Joe, you're a double eagle, no little.

Speaker 3:

No, no, I'm albatross, your albatross, dan. Yeah, I'm gonna.

Speaker 4:

I call it albie, and now I'll be yeah, um, yeah, I kind of lean towards double eagle it sounds more proper.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it doesn't I mean double eagle.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't proper, I'd have Double Eagle yeah.

Speaker 4:

I don't know, albatross is kind of like a silly word to say a little bit.

Speaker 1:

I've always thought Double Eagle Seems like Albatross has gained traction in the last couple of years.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but Double Eagle is two under right, so a double would make it four, so that means true.

Speaker 2:

That's why I don't like Double Eagle.

Speaker 3:

That's true, that's why I don't like double eagle. That's true, joe. I don't like saying albatross, so that's why I say an albie.

Speaker 2:

What if you have more than one albatross? Would it be albatry?

Speaker 1:

Albatross Oz.

Speaker 2:

What would be the multiple plural?

Speaker 3:

We'll have to get albatrosseses yeah, he's the albacore king man.

Speaker 1:

Double uh, beautiful golf courses chiming in on the uh chat on instagram says piute at best course in vegas is a steal at 300 for tourists. And uh y'all said, if I ever get one, I'll call it whatever yeah, that's yeah that's me, I, I, I'm, I'm happy, yeah uh let's see sorry to bring this up. I like that miles brown says uh sorry to bring this up, but for me went the end of 26th band in lottery and no one hit. All four have band in history, but for what happened?

Speaker 3:

He's talking about not getting in the band in lottery when you've been before. Is that what you're talking about, Miles?

Speaker 1:

Sorry to bring this up, but for me went for the end of 26, 26 band and lottery and no one hit I think, that people that have have been abandoned before did not get picked for picked for the lottery, which I've heard from someone else also.

Speaker 3:

Um, I, yeah, I, you know, luckily, luckily we have been blessed to have been there a few times um, so it sucks, right, but there are other options, right? Um, you know, and it's just like the masters. None of us have ever hit for the masters lottery tickets. We do know somebody that went recently, but A couple people.

Speaker 4:

It's tough man.

Speaker 3:

Golf is fucking popular man and it's cool, but it sucks for those of us that actually truly appreciate it. You know what I mean.

Speaker 1:

Mike's asking what's the goal of the lottery to get more people new people out there, or prioritize those who've already been? It's got to be to get new people out there.

Speaker 3:

I would think so, right, there are other ways. The. So what people misunderstand about the lottery is the lottery is for the rooms, really Right?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, Stay, stay in play stay on property.

Speaker 3:

Me and Dan went. We we booked 30 days out and had a blast just staying at the lamplighter. Shut out the lamplighter, race food place, banning coffee. You're staying in the city. It was or the town or the village, if you will.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean there's perks to staying on the resort and I highly recommend you do it. But there's also perks for not staying on the resort, and you got to decide what you want.

Speaker 3:

If anybody's gone and stayed off property, you need to stay on property. If you've gone and stayed on property, you need to go and stay off property. There's benefits to both sides. Yes, like I don't know, man, there's benefits to both just to be able to walk semi run through your wall. You know they got got space heaters all over the place. You're closer to Wilson's Market that way too. That's a benefit. Shout out Wilson's. I don't like the lottery either, Miles. Luckily, we've been a couple times.

Speaker 1:

We've all seen the new lodging and the new courses. What is this pappy? Oh, people are having fun in the chat.

Speaker 3:

Keep it up, keep going. It's buckley's, it's buckley's, buckley's. Shout out buckley's tavern, wilmingmington, delaware. Go check that place out.

Speaker 1:

Great place. Okay, who, if anybody, watched the Black Desert for the LPGA? I was excited about this one, and then they got kind of shit on for TV because the tournament in Texas got rain delayed and pushed back and so the footage that was going to be on Golf Channel ended up being the PGA Tour, and so you didn't get a lot of TV time. And the TV time that they did have, again showing the same freaking holes over and over again, it's like 14, 15, 16, 17 was all they showed, and I just don't get it. It's such an amazing place. I mean, this is where the youtube golfers if you want to see black desert for what it is, go start watching youtube and and hit up some of the content creators that are out there, because that's how you're going to see it, and maybe that is what will get me excited about YouTube. Golf is being able to see places that need to be seen, that aren't being shown when they're given golden opportunities to show it.

Speaker 2:

The thing about YouTube, too, is like when you watch, like what's Brian bros and grant doing their major series, like you get to see courses from angles and from the ground that you never see, even during like major coverage yeah so it's.

Speaker 2:

I think. I mean I I think most of the most of the tournament that I saw was like youtube highlights and instagram highlights of black desert. That's all I saw and I probably more you know coverage. Yeah, I think you're right. I think YouTube that's that's an advantage is people are on the ground, they, they show you the facilities that you can kind of get the experience without being there, and that just doesn't happen on PGA tour coverage, no at all, and it's it's such a miss, it's such a miss.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, what were you going to say?

Speaker 3:

Black desert is so good. You know they, even during the the pga tournament that they played out there, they did not highlight and show off that course as well as it should have been shown off, you know? Um, obviously the landscape is probably pretty difficult to throw cameras everywhere when you can look for your ball and scrape your knee, just like Jeremy did.

Speaker 1:

Hey, here's a no-pro.

Speaker 3:

It is a spectacular course. I'm thankful that we all got to play it together before it got highlighted because it's increased in pricing. But it's definitely a sick course that should be highlighted. And St George is no longer the secret that it was four years ago. You know that is true. So much good golf out in St George so much.

Speaker 1:

Mark commenting. Michelle, we commented on the number of cameras dedicated to LPGA events versus PGA events. Not sure how accurate it is, but she thinks she said it's like 12. On course, cameras to 100.

Speaker 1:

Jeez, I wouldn't doubt that uh robbie says the contract is horrible, but black desert doesn't have access space for many holes four through seven, but mostly the back is open. Yeah, but I mean you can still show. I mean god still show as you're walking out there, record a couple holes just to get some footage to show people. There's some great holes that get zero coverage.

Speaker 2:

You need the Goodyear blimp.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, even saw the lights of the Goodyear blimp and a red black desert's a pant. Shut our ice cube.

Speaker 1:

Oh goodness gracious, All right. Scotty Scheffler Stuck at the old Phil Mickelson in a big way by dominating the CJ Cup. I was watching telecast. They said that that course is going through big renovations, be some big changes next year, which it seems like almost every course now is. They have an event. Oh, we're going through changes so it'd be interesting to see what they do.

Speaker 1:

I really liked that 17th hole, that par three it's got. You know they're trying to make it have some, you know, phoenix vibes for the par three, not quite there yet but they're working on it. Um, scotty, just lit, lit that place up on unbelievable what he did. Um, a couple did he shoot two different 29s or 29 and a 30 on the front, just blitz, the field Wasn't even close. And you know, congrats to him Back in the winner's circle keeping his streak at world number one alive. He surpassed Dustin Johnson on the list for consecutive weeks at number one, so he's working his way up there. List for consecutive weeks at number one. Uh, so he's, he's working his way up there. Uh, my, says brian or, was out there for the pga tour and they told him to photograph the golfers only, not the course. Wow, that's.

Speaker 3:

That's smart I, I, yeah, I know, highlight the course man, bring people to your course. Uh, big news coming out of Scotland. Hey, did you guys see that? Royal Dornick.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 3:

You didn't see the Royal Dornick news, king Collins.

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 3:

Doing a new course at Royal Dornick.

Speaker 1:

Was that on a whatnot show? Is that how you found out about it?

Speaker 3:

No, no, I'm in tune with golf architecture news. I try to be at least architecture news. I try to be at least architecture news. I try to be at least. Uh yeah, king collins submitted their. Uh, yeah, king collins submitted.

Speaker 2:

I wonder when the last new course was in that area.

Speaker 3:

Doak's done some stuff out there I mean Marrakesh.

Speaker 2:

Dunes Marrakesh Dunes New stuff or revisions and restorations.

Speaker 1:

Is this a new course? They're building.

Speaker 3:

I think they're reno-ing some of Royal Dornick and they're building a new course. They're building, they're, I think they're, I think they're uh renoing some of royal dornick and they're building a new course on the side. So, um, I mean there's a lot of new courses out there. Uh, tom doke, I think he did one back. I mean that's got to be 15 years ago now. But uh, I want to say it's not marrakesh, it's Mironic Dunes or something like that. But David McClade, kid of band and fame, did one on the Isles of Scotland off to the west, and that place looks sick.

Speaker 1:

Kendall's giving you a little love. Joe, do you ever get tired of being the most researched guy in the group?

Speaker 3:

Never, never. No, my goal in life is to play them all.

Speaker 1:

uh, joe, do you ever get tired of being the most researched guy in the group never, never, no, no, no.

Speaker 3:

My. My goal in life is to play them all that's about I find out from him.

Speaker 3:

That's my new zip source I'm not even looking it up though. I just, I just appreciate it, I love it. You know, I want to check every course off in the world that I can, and I'm not going to be able to get to do that, I know. But uh, I want to play them all and uh, I want to know about them all. So, and I'm not always right, but I'm I'm probably in the hemisphere, you know close, if, if anything, you're very close.

Speaker 1:

You're not. That's. That's good, though we need we need you we need you for that stuff. It's important it's important, alright, so Coyote, we talked about, which one's a little bit. Oh wait, hang on.

Speaker 2:

DMK gets casual at.

Speaker 1:

St Andrews Kingsbarns is relatively new.

Speaker 3:

Kingsbarns is fairly new. Kings Barnes is fairly new.

Speaker 1:

So McLeod did. It's called Castle at St Andrews. That's a new course. How old is that, robbie?

Speaker 4:

Did you play when you were there? The Castle course at St Andrews.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think it's the.

Speaker 4:

I don't know how new it is I think it looks like it's been there for hundreds of years.

Speaker 1:

Makrahanish, makrahanish Dunes, makrahanish Dunes, golf club Naren is fairly new near Royal Dornish and Castle Stewart and if you guys don't know, national Customs, ari from National Customs like National Customs right.

Speaker 3:

So Ari from National Customs of National Customs Golf Club fame that's his home course, macaronish Dunes out there in Scotland. He's their social media guy, so he posts all the time from Makrohana students.

Speaker 2:

I'll have to check that one out. Yeah, there's so many courses I have no idea about.

Speaker 1:

There's so many. I don't think I'm a moron to the courses that are out there, but there's so many, there's so many that I'm just like, okay, those courses in Morocco on that, where there's, like you know yeah, or on turkey and turkey, yeah, yeah like seven miles of golf courses back to back, to back, to back to back. It's like good lord, so many golf courses macarona students look so sick.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna have to send you some pictures.

Speaker 1:

Greenlee's here what's?

Speaker 4:

up Greenlee In the house. What up?

Speaker 3:

Greenlee, I need a BGT shaft. Let me know.

Speaker 1:

Here it comes. He needs it by Monday too.

Speaker 2:

No, I don't need it by Monday. I'm curious whatic's thoughts are on scotty's tearing up craig ranch, because he's played there.

Speaker 1:

He's familiar he lit that place up.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, let's see if I could find that picture. I thought it was a joke when I saw him at. What was he after two rounds 17 under 18 under? It was a joke when I saw him. What was he after two rounds 17?

Speaker 1:

under 18. Under. It was ridiculous, Absolutely ridiculous.

Speaker 4:

I was like what the fuck is this? That can't be real.

Speaker 1:

There it is.

Speaker 4:

I thought they started on a Wednesday.

Speaker 1:

Look at those beautiful, beautiful putting sticks.

Speaker 4:

Golf ball whacker things.

Speaker 1:

Golf ball whacker. Things as Dave said. Things as uh dave said. So jeremy's is in the upper left. Uh, he got what finish, is that? What'd you call that?

Speaker 2:

um acid wash. I think acid something and dan.

Speaker 1:

Dan was the mallet guy, um, and you can't see the face on this, but the face is gorgeous. Uh, joe, joe got the giraffe.

Speaker 3:

I've been wanting one for years years.

Speaker 1:

I've seen that.

Speaker 3:

Olsen putter you had. I need one of these guys.

Speaker 1:

And that's mine on the end. There Just went with the traditional raw.

Speaker 4:

Max torque.

Speaker 1:

Deep milled on the. I don't know if anybody can see that the bumpers max torque on the bumpers, just because you know why not.

Speaker 3:

I'm probably going to have you pull out my puller out of the Olsen, just to get it in there just to have something to put with yeah, I'm excited. What great work by Goodwood.

Speaker 1:

They're just gorgeous. Let's see Eric's responding to Scotty. Not to take away from what he did, but he knows the course inside and out, which helps, but the way he was playing right now it's crazy. I was a member there for five years and never seen close to that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, robbie said.

Speaker 4:

Castle for five years and never seen close to that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, I mean robbie said you're definitely not you're definitely not taking anything away from them there.

Speaker 1:

Let's see, oh, mike, you've gone, of course is having fun. Uh, no, those are not lab putters. Uh, he said he loved the mallets and, uh, my face is going to be twisting. Yeah, it's going to have maximum torque on that, on that putter. So, yeah, yeah, these, these bad boys will be here soon.

Speaker 3:

So you get the little cdps on the hosels and uh, yeah, so except jeremy's, jeremy didn't get his on there yeah, it was.

Speaker 1:

It was going to be a little difficult to put lame loser.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think you can look right with that okay.

Speaker 3:

Do you think jeremy's actually gonna use this on the golf course more than one time? Because oh, I'm using it.

Speaker 2:

He still has it okay every time. I mean I'm gonna try it out and see if it's better than the scotty. But yeah if it's not better than scotty, you're not using it right, which currently, anything would be better than the scotty he's, he's in a little putting conundrum right now yeah, I'm excited to try it. I've never had a. I did no milling, I did a smooth face. I've never had that before, so where?

Speaker 4:

are you? That's my face.

Speaker 1:

Huh yeah, oh shit joe, what, what milling did you do on yours?

Speaker 3:

uh, the, the mid or whatever, the typical milling. Okay, that you would see yeah, I do.

Speaker 1:

So. We got a smooth, a deep, a regular, and then dan's is kind of unique. You'll have to see it when he'll he'll be showing it.

Speaker 3:

Yes, yeah, he'll be sharing it all over social media you guys will see it.

Speaker 1:

Post so much. It's gonna be a photo shoot he's everywhere you have to turn on the reminders and make sure you have your phone closed, otherwise it'll be lost for pictures the pictures will be there.

Speaker 4:

Let's see what is.

Speaker 3:

It was may 7th review on youtube, like they'll probably be there, like may 9th, 10th, 2026, stay tuned.

Speaker 1:

2026 oh yeah, I forgot. I took the picture of my new partner a year ago pictures.

Speaker 4:

The pictures will be the fucking for sale pictures greenleaf's commenting on cj cut.

Speaker 1:

Uh, we'll see next year. They signed an eight-year extension and they blew the course up on monday, so we'll see the scores next year with the changes. Nice, nice and we're. We're a week away from a major yeah, yeah. Which is wild?

Speaker 2:

Dude the coverage. Some of the video. Get ready for your blocky references again. Yeah, for sure, philadelphia Cricket Club looks so sick.

Speaker 1:

We got that and Oakmont coming up.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we got Philly Cricket Club and then Oakmont sick.

Speaker 1:

I mean Quail Hollows.

Speaker 3:

You know, we've seen it too many times with the Wells Fargo right. That's the Wells Fargo what is, where is?

Speaker 4:

Quail Hollows PGA Championship, oakmont's US Open, oakmont's Father's Day weekend, so we gotta wait on that.

Speaker 3:

So we go Philly Cricket Club, we go Oakmont and then we play right.

Speaker 1:

No, oakmont is US Open. I know that just majors.

Speaker 2:

Where's the open?

Speaker 3:

oh, it's PGA US Open few weeks away.

Speaker 4:

but the Where's the Open? Oh, it's PGA. Okay, us Open, pga's first and then.

Speaker 1:

US Open A few weeks away.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but they did take all those.

Speaker 4:

They took all those influencers from the Grass League. Oh yeah, they flew them over to Oakmont. They played Oakmont, I guess. Yeah, saw a bunch of videos from the rough. It's just a lot of that from the.

Speaker 1:

The rough is just lucky bastards. Man right, I think you see that st andre today went up to grant horvart and said we're giving you 10 equity in the in the channel. That was so funny. Oh, those guys are hilarious they are good oh what I said they are good.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's something else, my bad, all right. Um, so I had. I did a post earlier today. Let me bring this up because I I thought this was going to get a little bit more traction. It wasn't, you know, out there trying to uh get any. You know, wasn't like an intentional trying to get something out there, but it was some good information because zire put out a post and, uh, it was talking about the top 25 players in the world and the putters are using there's no labs and blah, blah, blah. There's a reason and you know, took a lot of god. How many people sent that to me, good lord so many people sent that to me, uh.

Speaker 1:

And so, uh, a lot of, a lot of people in the comments were, like, you know, top 25. The world doesn't really matter, let's go with the top 25 putters on tour. So this these are the top 25 strokes gained leaders on the pga tour for the 2025 season. And uh, so all I did was I got the list from the PGA Tour website and then I just did a search for what's in the bag 2025. What are you laughing at, dan?

Speaker 1:

Greenlee, greenlee His comment oh Pulls a DJ to open one of my cups, oh All right pulls a dj to open one of the cops.

Speaker 4:

All right, uh. So, uh, what to you guys? What?

Speaker 2:

stands out on this.

Speaker 4:

Sam burns a lot of odyssey, a lot of odyssey and zach johnson is a hell of a putter with not using one at all I couldn't find what he was playing.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if it's a Seymour still, or if it's a PXG or what but, nobody gives a shit what's in his bag.

Speaker 3:

Honestly, how much people love Scotty Cameron's? And there's only one in the top ten. You got a cluster at 19, 20, 21, and people will die on a sword for a scotty cameron.

Speaker 2:

No doubt about it, right odyssey yep, top six like 90 or these are mallets exactly that's the big thing that I mean.

Speaker 1:

Um, I think zach johnson, his is a blade. Um, harry plays kind of like a double wide blade and let's see what other one was. The Betty from Jacob Bridgman was a blade, but everything else is mallets I mean, they must really like their covers over, hanging over their bags.

Speaker 3:

You know that's they're playing for money. I'm not, don't think they care exactly all right.

Speaker 1:

Green said it is a pxg. It's a copy of a seymour. It doesn't exist. There are five of them. I have his backup. Oh, look at you, fancy. I'll put that on the list.

Speaker 3:

Green leaves putter I mean yeah, so most of them are mallets, right. But like, yes, when people think about like the putter they want right, most people think scotty cameron, they need us, I need a scotty cameron, right. Most people they don't ever say I need to get an odyssey that it's it's changing I want a scotty, but they need an odyssey I think,

Speaker 1:

they need a mallet one of the lures of the cameron stuff is a circle t because it's tour used and they're out there on the market and you can get one. You know you can get a tour played, scotty cameron or design built for the tour, you know and so that those are it's.

Speaker 3:

I understand all that, but it's like, if you're a collector, I get that right. If, like, like, jeremy is a huge scotty fan and that's how he grew up and that's what he plays, which I want jeremy to get a circle t, because one like it'll fulfill his dream because that's what he's played for his life, right, I mean, he's a, he's a diehard, you know, which I totally understand. But for newcomers coming into the game, they see that name and they're like that's what I need, that's how I can put better. If I have the quality of scotty cameron, I will put better. But, and that's the whole thing, it's like things work different for different people and find what works for you. That's all I'm saying.

Speaker 2:

That's all I'm saying no, it used to be like the allure was because the price like scotty was the highest price putter you could get, and now it's like middle of the road.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, true yeah yeah, yeah, I mean you can go in the golf store and competitively find a Scottie. That's not going to break the bank in relation to some of the other putters that are out there now.

Speaker 2:

So it has changed.

Speaker 1:

Rob, Only one ping my how times have changed. And that's funny, because that ping putter was a Sigma 2, so it's got that rubber face.

Speaker 3:

Oh yeah, Oldie.

Speaker 1:

It's wild to see that in there. It's a good putter, though. That's super soft feel, super soft feel.

Speaker 3:

Do you think the name on the putter actually means anything, or do you think that Odyssey might fit players on tour better than other brands?

Speaker 1:

Well, I mean there is club deals. So some of those guys are full bag staffers that you know they're required to play an Odyssey putter. There are a lot of players that don't have a 14 bag contract uh, you know 14 putter or 14 club contract, that they're putters generally, they can play whatever they want. Um, I don't know, I just think, well, that's what I'm getting at is why.

Speaker 3:

Why is odyssey the top? Is it because they pay the better putters or because they are able to put good players in putters that fit them better? Why are they.

Speaker 2:

I think odyssey has the biggest variety of putters. I would say that yes, yeah, that's a big, that's the answer.

Speaker 1:

I was looking for yeah well, I mean let's see because, uh, sam burns is a set number seven, sam Sam Ryder's a number seven. Tri-hot 5K number seven. So three of the top four are all the Fang Blade or Fang Mallet.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, but they're all different. They're all different models of that, yeah, they're different.

Speaker 1:

I mean, it's just A.

Speaker 4:

Y-Hot a Rossi, a Tri-Hot like.

Speaker 1:

Those are just the inserts though Some of these put. Much the same design are old, yeah. I was just gonna say that, yeah, that works yeah that's like 10 years old now mm-hmm, oh, you mean I shouldn't just randomly buying clubs every time I go to Las Vegas Superstore? No, do that too, do that too yeah, shut up Las Vegas Superumer store.

Speaker 1:

Therapy for you. Yes, that is true, but yeah, it's, I mean. I mean they make good putters too. It's not like it's crap, you know. It's not like they're. They're playing zebra putter. No, I'm just kidding, it's not like they're playing, you know, crap. There it's crap. There it's a. It's a good putter and there's a. There's a lot of tech in the face. I think that's why you're seeing a lot of those guys play those types of putters that they get that feedback and response from, and you just you don't see an all milled odyssey anymore. They just they don't. They all have inserts. Now they're doing milled inserts, but all milled faces. Just you know the. The feedback that they're getting now from players is they want that different insert feel.

Speaker 3:

So that's the way it's going I'd be curious to see how that looks over the past like five years, because odyssey loves to say number one putter on tour, which is justified by that, you know. So it's, uh, I'm curious what it is, and I think jeremy hit it. It was jeremy, right, that said, you know, they're able to fit players easier and they have so many styles that work for different players, so interesting it was interesting.

Speaker 1:

I thought I was going to get a little bit more traction, but all right, we see. We'll see what happens. Wait till the lab boys find out about it. And then they they found my Facebook page over the weekend and Holy crap Did that. I got almost another million views just on Facebook over the last IP address is one nine two point.

Speaker 3:

Two point four point.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, that was great, and this time I just decided to let the boys have fun with it. And speak your mind and have fun with it. Now, if somebody says something that was blatantly incorrect, I felt obligated to correct them.

Speaker 3:

You're obligated. You couldn't help yourself. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I'm helping the world educate themselves. But I mean, how many times do you have to say if you can't afford a lab putter, just say so. That's like the number one comment from all of these, which is it's too funny. But uh yeah, that that was if you get. If you want to see some good humor, go check out the 1440 Facebook page. You'll see the same post. And uh yeah, the comments are unreal. People have way too much time on their hands.

Speaker 2:

That's all I got.

Speaker 1:

Kind of a slow week. Oh, you know what? We didn't talk about coyote. We talked a little bit about it, but I wanted to talk about uh I I'll bring up this picture again because I I share this on my instagram page and the, uh, the what they're doing around the bunkering is just absolutely wild. They are letting it grow, uh, and it is thick controversial, if you will I mean, wow, love it, it's.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if you guys can, you know, zoom in if you can on instagram or not, but uh, wild, how much they're letting the grass around the bunkers grow. And and a couple people sent me messages and I I say it's, it's an automatic penalty. Now, if you're in that grass just off the rough and that thick stuff, it's, it's an automatic penalty because you're not advancing the ball at all if you can find it, even if you can find it if you can find it.

Speaker 1:

I mean, how many times were we out there? We rolled right by balls that were like Holy shit, it was right there. Um, it's, it is nasty, nasty, nasty. We have a major coming up there in September for the VGN and oh my, um, yeah, if they continue, and you can see, they're all around, it's all around, they're all around, it's all around. It's not just in one spot, it is all around the course.

Speaker 1:

So it's, uh, it's made a difficult course, even harder, which is hard to fathom if you've played out there and know how much that course can kick your ass. So be aware you're not in the fairway, I love I love, I love it, I love what they're doing. Oh, I do too it. It looks so good too, because it just it looks raw. Yeah, golf was that. I played there two weeks ago. It kicked my ass. Yeah, yeah, it guilty.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I gotta have ass whooping myself I just love going out there and just playing because it's such a incredible course, like when I go out there, like it's like, score is irrelevant, it's hit the shots, find the shot that you need to hit and hit it if you can't hit the next one. You know that's. I truly appreciate and love coyote springs because it's something that we don't have anywhere else in Las Vegas. I'm happy that we have a course that will test you and if you're feeling confident in your game, go play there and it will humble. It was a reality, you know it's. It will test every part of your game and that's what a great golf course will do. And it will test every part of your game. And that's what a great golf course will do and it will test the best players, the worst players Best course we have, I think.

Speaker 1:

Hey, golfo, what was your experience like? How did you enjoy it at least? I know you said it kicked your ass and you drove all the way from colorado for it, but did you enjoy it at least. Did you have a good time? Did you like the course or did you, you know, regret driving? Out here for that curious to hear your thoughts on that and I hope I hope they build the second course.

Speaker 3:

Hope that's happening he loved it.

Speaker 1:

Awesome, great to hear. Great to hear.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's not happening. How do you know it's not happening?

Speaker 1:

I have my sources.

Speaker 4:

You need to talk to certain people.

Speaker 1:

Talk to certain people, ask certain questions, get certain answers. Yeah, not happening anytime soon.

Speaker 4:

I guess the money's going to that city of North Las Vegas tower. Yeah, yeah, right, I'm all into that.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I don't know what a stranger seeing that. Or the giant naked donald trump, too funny. And jeremy got a little lesson on the flop shot uh, from joe and was hitting freaking flop shots all over the place so he was killing it, dude.

Speaker 2:

I've always loved the flop, it's just I never felt the need to take a full swing next to the green flop but it worked almost. Hold it twice on 18 the higher the club head speed, the softer it lands yeah, spinny, spinny joe is just standing there like moist watching you swing.

Speaker 3:

I'm sitting there, stop it, stop it, you're not allowed to do that anymore I mean jeremy was like, uh, what was that at memorial when tiger took that full swing from the right side of the pin? Yeah, yeah, I mean, that was that was Jeremy. Jeremy Martin, right there, jay Martin, just Tiger in full swing.

Speaker 1:

Flop a doodle do.

Speaker 2:

Full commitment Yep. You have to be committed because, if there's any doubt, you're just belating that a hundred yards.

Speaker 1:

Oh, dan was. Dan was ready. He was playing. You know, save saved the ball going in the water and didn't need to ready he was ready?

Speaker 3:

never a doubt. Never a doubt, jeremy, never, never a doubt um, so yeah, so now, that's all I got and also, if it went in the water, then you don't need to play that ball no more because you are a flopper champion.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no need to have that ball in your bag yep so, uh, yesterday uh promoted um, hope you come and see matt at his work. Hey, nice, yes, please come by. Um, I'll let you know. Send me a message, I'll let you know where we're going to be. Um, uh, whatnot, uh take five.

Speaker 1:

Uh was having his show was supposed to be tonight and uh he how he obtained this haul from swag. It's, it's unbelievable, the stuff that he's got. It's pretty crazy. It is, I mean, crazy. Steven jackson, uh was I I show was showing him some stuff and and I'm sure his eyes were just like whoa. He went to start the show tonight and the internet was out, so they had no internet in his area so he could not do the show. It was a train wreck.

Speaker 1:

Whatnot? Live stream? I was watching it because he's trying to troubleshoot this with people in the chats. There's a lot of assholes on there, but there's some funny shit also. People are like, are you going to list that broken router Started at a dollar. But you got a little bit of a sign behind the scenes of his place and uh, yeah, so hopefully the service comes back and he'll be running that show. So, uh, once it does go, we'll we'll link it on our story so you guys can find it, because I mean, I don't want to tell anybody because I I want to try and get a deal on something, maybe for myself, but there's also going to be a thousand people watching, so it doesn't really matter.

Speaker 1:

Yeah no if you're a, if you're a swag fan, uh, tune into that. It's going to be pretty insane yeah, pretty fucking wild oh, closing show notes. Are we going to raid another channel and let's get some W's in?

Speaker 3:

the chat. Which one Not this week?

Speaker 2:

Dude, I seen Big.

Speaker 3:

Slim out there, bro, big Slim is in the chats now bro, he's out there.

Speaker 1:

Speaker 3:

Slim is in the house, he's full effect for sure.

Speaker 1:

Big Slim also has some new irons and a new driver, and he's very happy with them right now.

Speaker 3:

Speaker 1:

Joe, you can have some competition. You see swing points shop in new warehouses I did see that.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I did see that having. I'm not in it for the competition, I'm in it too I'd just like to you know, move that facility I know, yeah, terrible. Oh, I saw that I saw that video and I closed it out right quick because I was like I don't want to move anything, Cause. I didn't even want to think about moving all those golf clubs.

Speaker 1:

So much stuff Good, so much yeah.

Speaker 2:

It's amazing.

Speaker 1:
