327: Our PGA Championship Take: Should Majors Be Played at Tour Stops?
The divide between golf purists and pragmatists takes center stage in this episode as we explore what truly gives a major championship its identity. Fresh off Scottie Scheffler's commanding PGA Championship victory, we examine not just his dominant performance but the deeper question: should prestigious majors be played on familiar tour stops, or does that diminish their special character?
When industry insider Aarik Greenely unexpectedly joins the conversation, the debate intensifies. Drawing from his extensive background in golf, Aarik offers a nuanced perspective on the PGA Championship's place in the major hierarchy—challenging enough to test every aspect of a player's game without crossing into the punitive territory of a US Open. "I don't like watching the best golfers in the world get embarrassed," Greenely asserts, sparking a thoughtful exchange about what makes tournament golf compelling for both players and spectators.
Between discussions of Scheffler's potential Grand Slam path and Harry Hall's strong T19 finish, we share the excitement of our community-building ball marker scavenger hunt across Las Vegas. This local initiative has listeners following social media clues to find hidden Ball Markers at unexpected locations—from local golf centers to poke restaurants. The episode closes with an intimate equipment conversation as we reveal our favorite clubs and golf balls, offering both personal insights and practical recommendations for fellow golf enthusiasts.
Join us next week when Dave from Goodwood Putters visits to share his expertise on custom putters and the craft behind them. Until then, keep an eye on @hittinggreens on Instagram for the next ball marker drop somewhere in the Henderson area!

Speaker 1:So I hope everybody's having a fabulous uh week so far. We're two days into it. It's tuesday, oh yeah, may 20th 2025. I was just thinking earlier today. In the winter time, we like beg for the long days and the heat, and it's like we're almost already halfway through it. The year is flying by, absolutely flying by.
Speaker 2:Hey, what up the homie Randy tuning in. I haven't seen Randy in a long time. Thanks for tuning in, brother.
Speaker 1:Thank you, randy. We are live on YouTube right now. We are live on Instagram and I went ahead and started up the Facebook again, so we'll see how much? Credit. Humor we get on that, you know sometimes. You got to do it. Glad you're all here. Thank you so much for tuning in to the show. This week we had some VGN in action we had some major golf action.
Speaker 2:Did you all see the news that tiger's having a?
Speaker 1:baby, no, I didn't see that. What the hell? What? Yeah, yeah, uh, I I just saw it one time, so I don't know how real it is, because I thought that's gotta be fake bro everything. But yeah, it said that, no way.
Speaker 2:No, yeah, if we had stat guy here these people that are just influenced by everything they see on the internet, I mean hey, you never know I'm.
Speaker 1:Hey, my kid gets me all the time with shit that she's um, that's like yeah.
Speaker 2:Katie one day said yeah disney's building a disneyland in vegas and I was like, no, that's not happening they got you bro.
Speaker 1:They got you the. Uh, um, oh, what is what's the chicken spot? Uh, raisin canes. Uh, that guy did the video with the burrito the raisin canes burrito and I'm like, oh, and brooke was like dad, that's fake, it's not real. Bring your own tortilla. Why would they do that? I'm like, but it's a good idea, yeah bring your own tortilla so if anybody knows if that's that's real or not um, it's not. We don't need to ask, it's not real yeah, hey, would it, would it surprise anybody, okay, no, because it's not real.
Speaker 1:All right, we'll give it the big x, not real. Ah, that's a butterfly hat. I thought it was a whatnot hat logo that I missed out.
Speaker 2:You, it's from rob no, that's one of the birds. It's in the bird finding book that you got on whatnot?
Speaker 1:Here's Jeremy watching live from Border Grill.
Speaker 2:Happy birthday, jeremy, happy birthday.
Speaker 1:Jeremy won't be here tonight. Hey, jeremy, while you're sitting there, I saw a post earlier today that said Tiger Woods is having a baby with uh, his new girl, uh, can you just verify that? That's true or not?
Speaker 2:thank you also, if you have any leftovers on me on your way home, you can drop them off over here yeah, leftovers, yeah, hook it up, come on all right.
Speaker 1:So, uh, let's, let's hang out on it. Yeah, look at that stat guy working ot on the birthday. Love it all right. Uh, so, let's, um, what do you? Where you want to start? You want to start national, you want to start pga championship?
Speaker 2:uh, I mean the tiger baby, I think we save, we save vgn until the end. I think let let's talk. Pga Champ.
Speaker 1:All right, we'll talk. Pga Championship.
Speaker 2:Eagle Buff in the chat. Shout out Eagle Buff.
Speaker 1:Oh hey, chaz is out there too. He grabbed some scavenger hunt materials today.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I did Dude, that was hilarious, I loved it. Yeah, right, that was fun.
Speaker 3:Absolutely loved it. No, that was cool, for sure.
Speaker 2:Yeah, so if anybody wasn't? I thought, about it last night. Go ahead, matt, go ahead, yeah, if anybody wasn't watching Joe's IG feed today.
Speaker 1:He got in some of the ball markers that he ordered and was throwing them behind some stickers in some places around town. Nothing really incredibly hard to find, clearly, um, but uh, it was fun to see it clearly clearly. I mean, everybody knows where poke express is and las vegas golf center. So, uh, congrats to the people that found them. I think it's cool. I think, like you said, you're gonna keep doing it, which I think is a great idea. So, uh, looking forward to some more of those.
Speaker 2:It's fun to watch that stuff yeah, I thought about it late last night. I set a reminder on my phone to do it this morning and, uh, it was really fun. That was a lot of fun. Like I was like I did. I was like I'm on ig often but like I was like waiting. You know, like did was waiting, did somebody find it? Did somebody find it? I'm going to continue to do it. I'm going to do one tomorrow. I don't know where it's going to be, probably in Silverado, ranch Henderson.
Speaker 1:Green Valley Ranch is a great spot, green Valley. Ranch area, but I am going to do one tomorrow.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, that was fun and I ordered four other styles so it's gonna be a. It's gonna be a real live pokemon chase to catch them all.
Speaker 3:So you gotta catch them all yeah, you need.
Speaker 1:You need to do just like 10 of one style uber exclusive, only available through scavenger hunts yeah, I mean, there's no limit to this.
Speaker 2:You know it was so much fun. Uh, I had a blast, so there is going to be more.
Speaker 1:I've literally just put in the order for four different other styles, so you need to do a big one like this, big, and we'll do it like jingle, bell rock style, where we'll give a clue each week, each day and you have well yeah do you guys remember the jingle bell rock? Do you jingle bell?
Speaker 2:no, no uh, it was back when I mean I know the song, I know the song no, it was back when uh 107.5 was an alternative.
Speaker 1:Uh, I remember that station and uh, each each year around christmas they would do uh, they, they would hide the jingle bell rock and it was, I don't remember what, the. I think it was ten thousand dollars, something like that. You won if you found it, but they would each day have a clue each day they'd have a clue where it's at and uh yeah, that's the.
Speaker 1:I remember one year it was over by where the dmv is now in the desert and uh, me and a buddy of mine were, we were on. We're like, you know, that's a lot of money for us and uh, we were in the desert with about 40 other people.
Speaker 2:Well, that's the thing I was thinking. Maybe I do throw a hat out there somewhere and that might be the Jingle Bell Rock situation If you follow along all week, maybe there will be a hat at the end of the tunnel. It was a lot of fun. I'm really stoked to do that. It was so cool.
Speaker 1:Robbie's had, so many trespassing warnings.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that was fun. There's more coming.
Speaker 1:There'll be one tomorrow make sure you're following dreams on instagram, yeah all right. So, uh, we had the major um and uh, scotty birthday wasn't wasn't so great um. But then second day caught fire, started lapping the field, then it came back and it was close. Dan sent in messages going. You know we got a tournament now and the next thing, you know Rom and Bryson and everybody else just completely melted down.
Speaker 3:And.
Speaker 1:Scotty walked away with a four-stroke win. Should have been five, or maybe it was five. Was it five or four or five? I can't remember. Anyways, it was a lot. He dominated. He was first in strokes game putting for greens in regulation.
Speaker 1:It was a great showing by him and since Jordan didn't win the Grand Slam and we lost our opportunity to have two Grand Slam winners in one year, now it's back because if Scottie wins at Oakmont and Port Rush, he will complete the Slam, so there is still a chance of having two slam winners in one year that'd be sick, which would be, I mean to be around when that happens. It's a historical moment so rooting for him I I really think he's the front runner for oakmont.
Speaker 2:Clearly I mean yeah, with how straight he hit the ball I saw some edits today on instagram where it was like like some hard ass was it real?
Speaker 1:was it real? Joe, was it real? Yeah, it was real.
Speaker 2:Ass trap music real and he was like they were like it was like a song right, and they're they're showing him like playing and then they show him in cuffs and it's like you know I'm from the trenches, kind of vibe dude. That shit was sick, but uh, I didn't I didn't watch a ton.
Speaker 2:I didn't watch a ton. I thought it was kind of boring. But sunday provided some drama, thankfully, I think, especially with rom dude. Rom is such a hothead and like somebody, put some ayahuasca in his like he probably took an ayahuasca trip recently because he was so like chill, you know what I mean. Yeah, he wasn't hot at all, and that's what we expect from him I'm sure he was hot on the inside oh, yeah, he was because, no, I don't think so.
Speaker 2:I think he, I think it was genuine, I do think it was genuine after the round he had, he had told reporters that he was embarrassed.
Speaker 3:Yeah, so I don't. I don't know if that's in a rage or not, but he was definitely going through it I like how earlier in the week, um they uh were showing uh tyrell hatton on the first round. They're like. The announcers even said that they're not going to keep any microphones around too because he's liable dude.
Speaker 1:He was. He was cussing out his driver.
Speaker 3:That was hilarious I love that dude that's speaking of drivers. That's what people want it's crazy.
Speaker 2:That's what people want, dude people want to see that like I know I love it all the mics, put all the mics on to route, you know yeah, they.
Speaker 1:Uh. I think everybody wants it, but they're so scared of it they're so scared of it yeah, just because you know, with jt and his spaghet camp comment, and you know then, yeah, the tampon gate with tiger and justin there's just, yeah, they're so scared of just upsetting the public figures, bro, like people are gonna.
Speaker 1:People are gonna see that shit, you know I know, I know, even if it happens, somebody in the crowd's gonna have a video of it yep, I think, uh, thrill having his emotions and wearing it out. There it's. There's not one person I know that has golf that has not hit a shot, where they've wanted to do the exact same thing or have done the exact same thing you know it's it's a hard, hard game, and sometimes the emotions get the best of you I loved the shane lowry moment.
Speaker 2:That was my favorite. Yeah, yeah, that was so good, yeah that was pretty cool and especially the clip from scratch with uh dan rapaport and he hits it and then he goes love that. I know I sent it to you and it was timed so perfectly Like that was so good. I mean embed it. That was an embedded ball in the fairway, no doubt about it.
Speaker 3:Well, what's it?
Speaker 1:was that there was some doubt about it but that wasn't his mark.
Speaker 3:I think there was, it was. I know but, there was Mark but and he rolled into it.
Speaker 2:Right, so it was it. And he rolled into it. Right, so it was a pre-embedded ball. That's the thing.
Speaker 1:That's where the rules. It was a pre-existing divot.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it was that, that's how he got fucked. Exactly that was embedded. What are the odds of that shit though? Right, that's crazy. That's got to be a million to one.
Speaker 1:I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, with as consistent as these guys are, of hitting the ball where they hit it. I mean, you see all the divots in one area of certain holes all the time and it's amazing that balls don't find them more often.
Speaker 2:But yeah, you watch the show and it's like, oh, it's going to end up in a divot and it never does.
Speaker 1:Never does.
Speaker 3:It's very rare that it does.
Speaker 1:Very rare yeah luckily irish, I guess. For him. Yeah right, yeah, uh. So scotty, of course, pads his stats as the top player in the world. His owgr continues to rise. Uh, xander shoffley made the cut, so his streak got extended. His cut streak he's still a million years away from Tiger, but it's still an active streak, so it's going. Scottie's continuous weeks at number one is still growing. I want to give some love to Harry Harry Hall. He was in the tournament and finished T19. So congrats to him. A nice little $193,000 paycheck, so that's nice.
Speaker 2:He is now 65th on the money list on the PGA Tour.
Speaker 1:He's brought in $1.4 million this year Good job. Harry, good boy, harold, yeah yeah, he's been on a good run and I thought his OWGR was gonna be lower. It's at 92 right now. He was previously at 82. Was his all his best? He's at 92 right now, um, but uh, he's had. You know, he's been consistently in the top 30 last four or five tournaments. So congrats to him on his good play.
Speaker 1:Yeah and uh, I have to find out if that automatically gets him in the open or or not, I'm pretty sure it does top 20 in a major. I'm sure there's some uh accolades for that jeremy, if you're still listening, find out.
Speaker 1:I didn't have time to look into that pack those doggy bags you know, last week we talked a lot about Quail Hollow, seeing it so much and the course you know it's in the regular rotation and now they're playing a major at it again a big event. Joe, you said you didn't watch much, but from what you did watch, were you okay with the course or are you still done with it? You okay with the course?
Speaker 2:or do you? Are you still? I mean, yeah, the course is, the course is sick. I mean, I have no issues with the course, it's just um. Someone during the vgn tournament we played this weekend stopped me and was like I completely agree with you. I'm not gonna say any names, but why not? He was. I mean I'll tell you guys after.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'm gonna tell you guys after. Uh, nobody listening probably knows mean.
Speaker 2:I'll tell you guys after I'm gonna, yeah, yeah, I'm gonna tell you guys after uh. Nobody listening probably knows, but I'll tell you guys after. Uh, he is a true links where fan, now, shout out true links where because, uh, he used, uh he, he jumped on that bandwagon through our recommendations. But anyway, uh, his name is Dan Dan Hodges. No, I'm kidding, his first name is Dan, though it was me, so you probably know who it is. But no, I just think the course looks sick. Dude, I have no issues with the course. The only issue I have is when there is a major somewhere that hosts a regular tour stop. That's all it is.
Speaker 1:Okay, I know that and that's what I'm talking about though um, I mean you. You beat that to a, I'll beat it again last week um but I would say so. With that mentally in your brain, were you able to watch the tournament and enjoy it, or were you just hell bentbent on?
Speaker 2:this shouldn't be taking place here right now. Yeah, I didn't really enjoy it very much. I enjoyed it when Rom was on the chase. I watched Sunday, I watched most of Sunday when we got home, but there was no drama, and that's why.
Speaker 1:And you think that's because of the course.
Speaker 2:No, no, not at all. It wasn't because of the course. No, I think that's what's so great about Augusta National. Yeah, we go there every year, but it provides drama. Majors need drama.
Speaker 1:Oh, we're going, and see some drama at oakmont hell yeah, I'm down.
Speaker 2:Like I typically do not care who wins unless I have a bet on them, um, but if I don't have a bet on anybody in the in the hunt, then I want drama. And when rama was making his chase I was like, hell yeah, let's go. And then he fell apart and then it was like, oh well, scottie got it again. I have nothing against Scottie Scheffler at all. Like we called him out years ago, he's going to be a great player. But I just think majors deserve that drama and unfortunately, this year did not provide that it could have. Maybe it would have made it a better, maybe it would have changed my outlook on things, but no, I, I still stand by. I will beat this into the ground. Don't play majors at tour stops and choose courses that provide drama.
Speaker 1:I'm going to Robbie had a good point. Tournament was exciting for 20 minutes on the back nine Sunday and then died with an hour left exactly exactly, put that on a shirt and sell it hey, once again I'm going to send this invite to Greenlee. He wants us to have him on in a couple weeks. But the next couple weeks? But how about right now? There, greenlee, I just sent you a link. Hop on, I don't know who?
Speaker 3:I don't know who it was, but there was a video I saw and I'm not sure if it was on instagram or wherever the fuck it was, but they talked about reformatting the pga championship and matt your, your decision about bringing back the match play was in it, joe, did you see it? When they talk about they're doing the first two rounds of metal play, I sent that to you guys, I think was it you? Was it you, joe?
Speaker 3:yeah yeah, anyway, yeah, and then they took the top 32 and then they did a match play until the final four.
Speaker 2:I think that would be sick 36 holes in one day?
Speaker 3:That would be awesome. I mean, I think it turns out to be like 90 holes or something like that played.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's a lot.
Speaker 2:We've played 85 in one day.
Speaker 3:That would be an absolute grueling test. Yeah, and I think it would be awesome and it would be an absolute grueling test of golf and I think it would be awesome and it would be cool to see, like, even if that were to happen, to even see like the Club Pro guy, like Michael Block, or something like that, grind it out. Yeah, grinding it out against Scotty, or, you know, like Kyle Mendoza against Rory.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean, make those guysty or, you know, like kyle mendoza against rory. You know something like that world. You know it could be life-changing. Yeah, that's what I think it would be so sick is like.
Speaker 2:Pgh championship is like a gruel, it's like a duel, it's like a grind to the finish, like and that's all I've said is like they missing their identity, but like that would be so dope if they did that and that became their identity. And Rob says, uh, PGA championship next year is at Aronamic Great Can't wait to see. Aronamic. It's not played. It's not played on tour stops, right, that's what we need, that's yeah.
Speaker 3:We need more, more need more, more exactly I agree, more, more. The top 100 great these beautiful showcase golf courses there's so many get them into the majors, bring them in. I mean fuck. I mean, how good was I? I can't wait for them to go back to the us open. I got to see that shit live. Yeah, in 2012 I walked those grounds and that course was. I mean, joe, I know you're an architect geek and you would have absolutely loved seeing some of that shit out there and we haven't seen it since, so hopefully, hopefully, they.
Speaker 3:You know this trend of what year was greatness?
Speaker 1:2012, I believe man, you're just 13, 13 red baskets. Oh, oh shit.
Speaker 2:Oh, greenly.
Speaker 3:Uh-oh, uh-oh, there he is.
Speaker 1:Turn your phone.
Speaker 4:There he is.
Speaker 1:So you fit on the screen better.
Speaker 4:All right, hold on, Let me hold on.
Speaker 2:Couple happy dads. Huh, there we go.
Speaker 1:Look who. It is Okay, I'm turning on more light.
Speaker 4:I'm sorry.
Speaker 1:Okay, there we go, there we go.
Speaker 2:There he is there he is what a guy, what a guy, what a guy, what a guy.
Speaker 1:Are you in the bunkhouse right?
Speaker 3:now.
Speaker 4:Huh.
Speaker 3:Are you in the bunkhouse right now?
Speaker 4:I'm in my freaking kids room with bunk beds.
Speaker 2:That's what he means by bunkhouse. That's not your room.
Speaker 4:Wicked weird.
Speaker 1:Alright, the floor is yours. You said you need to be on here in the next couple weeks. We amplified that, expedited it Got you here now. So let's hear what you got to be on here in the next couple weeks. We we amplified that, expedited it got you here now. So let's hear what you got to say about what? So I can answer the question properly you, you said please have me on in the next couple of weeks.
Speaker 1:I figured you had something that you wanted to get off your chest no, it's not nothing to get off my chest.
Speaker 4:I love my boy, joe, but he gets on these fucking tangents yes.
Speaker 2:What tangent did I have?
Speaker 4:What's this about? What's this tournament about? Dude, I love you, but dude, I can say it through the phone I'm like dude. How much drinking weed and alcohol have you had?
Speaker 2:I don't drink weed I don't drink weed you know what I mean? I don't smoke alcohol either. Don't drink weed, don't smoke alcohol. What did I say that is aggravating you?
Speaker 4:So nothing aggravates me. People have tried to push the button. You can't push the button, so for starters Dan, congrats on your win. Thank you.
Speaker 1:Oh, we haven't gotten there yet, but okay, oh, my bad. No, that's good.
Speaker 4:If people are on the internet, they know.
Speaker 3:Oh they know Good job. I appreciate that, thank you.
Speaker 4:So back to a year ago to calm down. The PGA tournament is fair in my opinion. Fair. Us Open greens to an extent fair. You have rough for majors because we all love the Masters, but there's no rough. Let's just call it what it is.
Speaker 4:There's not correct? Um, we cannot. I don't know how you say there's a word for it. I don't know what the word is right now, but you cannot recreate, uh, open conditions. But if you can make the fairways fast and firm and kind of play the golf ball on the ground, then to an extent it's kind of the open, but it's not. I know it's not raining sideways and blowing 30 and it's 40 outside. I get that. But the pj championship, in my opinion, is all-encompassing of all of those elements, to the extent they can predict them and they just do the best they can with what they have to.
Speaker 4:Now, as far as, being on a tournament course, if you will. The fact that you can make a tournament course, that versatile, the fact that you can make those whatever the courses are, well, yeah, I get that I see that yeah 100 you can.
Speaker 4:I understand seeing different courses. I understanding making golf more accessible than seeing places we've never seen. Buddy, I get it, we're on the same page, but unfortunately that's not how golf works. So how about we take those courses that we've already seen that can be put in a tournament shape and do the best they can with what they have right? So you're not going to see a major at trinity forest here in dallas?
Speaker 2:okay, so here's my thing with that. Here's my thing with that here. Why don't?
Speaker 4:why, don't. That's right brother and freaking matt won't even stop laughing because he knows what's, but I'm listening okay, if, if, if that was their identity, why wouldn't they do it at a pga tour?
Speaker 4:stop every year and show the differences of how far you can grow the ref no I think you can make it yeah, you know what I mean here's here's the catch and this is somebody who's worked on the other side of it and I'm not saying I know I'm not saying please legend legend he's a legend. I wish I was there because I would punch you in the nuts. I know you would, brother. So I'm not saying I know all the back end stuff because I don't, but not every tournament course can host a major. Let's just be real about it.
Speaker 2:It's not a. Thing.
Speaker 4:So the fact that I'm going to literally agree with you and disagree with you with what I'm going to literally like agree with you and disagree with you what with what I'm about to say. So there's a reason.
Speaker 4:The player is played at the players right yeah I'm sorry at tbz sawgrass it was built for it, correct, and we can argue all day long. But it should be a major. But quail hollow can hold a golf tournament, if you will, normal and a major. I was a member at craig ranch for five years, four, whatever. Five years we'll we'll go in the middle. This is gonna sound stupid to people because they see the scores that they shoot out there. You can hold a major at craig ranch, but the catches and matt's like hot take so. But now I can see the face. Dude, I know you. If you narrow the fairways and you grow the rough, it can be done right. It just it depends on the golf course. It's, it's all a see. Shout out the agronomist.
Speaker 2:Shout out the agronomists, shout out the agronomists, greenskeepers, shout out all those guys.
Speaker 4:Right, but there's a reason they blew it up. Now the catch is, the Nelson was played the week before the PGA Championship. So do you want to get kicked in the nuts two weeks in a row? No, it's not fun. So how about we give a golf course to players, make some birdies, make some low scores, build some confidence? Then we go to the PGA Right. So the, the Nelson and Dallas shouldn't be played the first week in May, shouldn't? It's going to rain here.
Speaker 4:You might get a tornado, like you don't know, what's gonna happen, right like it's very, very easy to leave, live here and be like, oh it's raining, oh there's a nelson, oh it's raining. All the colonials here, it just it's, it's what it is, man, right. So not saying they should move them, like I was trying to run the tour. I was trying to do that stuff, but being a part of it, for eric monahan over here, eric monahan 18.
Speaker 4:So golf 25 years. I've been on the other side of it for 18 of the 25 years. There's so much money and politics involved like yeah living here not wanting to live here, not wanting to be here. I would love to see a tournament every week at Shadow Creek, but the fact of that space between those tee boxes and all that stuff like it baffles me that they walk that golf course.
Speaker 4:When they play the match and all that nonsense. I'm like well, that's why there's so many commercial breaks. Have you played there? They're like no. Yeah, you have no idea how far spread out that is?
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 4:And that's the stuff I wish people knew.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you're right.
Speaker 4:Like they like the CJ Cup I. To my my knowledge, they signed an eight-year deal, so last year on tv that golf course looked like I put it together with legos, you could see the drainage. You can see all this nonsense let's be fair about what it is right, yeah that's why they blew it up so now they're gonna play the event cool, we're blowing it up monday like what remember?
Speaker 4:so you have to abide by certain things and it just it. How do I say this? Actually, it doesn't matter. Like freaking, come beat me up, who cares?
Speaker 2:like no, no, I totally get what you're saying.
Speaker 4:If tbc sawgrass can be in, shape for the tournament, so can craig ranch so can the other tour stops, so all that stuff. Yeah, and so we're.
Speaker 1:You're held to a standard, so make the standard like you have a bajillion fucking figure it out, right it was when I was talking with brian herbert from las vegas golf insider about the rough at las vegas country club, the live event, because I've played out there where the rough is thick.
Speaker 1:And I was like it's a tight course, it's not a difficult course, it's fairly flat, it's right in front of you. The greens are tricky but I said they're going to grow that rough and make it a penalty shot to hit out of it. And we get out there and it was this high and I was like what the fuck? And he goes. It don't grow in the winter yeah, you know and he goes, they can't grow it they.
Speaker 1:They could water it every day for a month and you know, non-stop. It's not going to grow because it's too cold. And I was like, okay, that makes sense.
Speaker 4:So I mean, I can see why they didn't come back no, to your point, like a live event here in dallas, at meridot, so that's where a lot of the tour players play and whatever. Well, that's stupid, like I can't believe they do that. And they only shot, you know, for three days they only shot five, six under. People have no idea how hard that golf course is. So like, originally it was called colombian club and then it went from colombian club to honors club and there was a gentleman here who wanted to join a club and they told him he had to wait, and he told him to trick and suck a bag of dicks and he bought honors club, which he turned into merido and when the wind which you guys know this, being there and being here, the wind is going to blow, it's just what it is. Yeah, so then, like well, under today, like that was amazing, and people are like, well, that's stupid, you have no idea how hard that golf course is.
Speaker 2:I mean, that's a whole other thing, bro, no no, no, they need to shoot under par in the score Like it doesn't matter.
Speaker 4:I need you to stay on topic with us All, right All right, I'm going to go to the bathroom.
Speaker 4:I love on topic with us. All right. All right, I'm gonna go to the bathroom. I love you too, but it's just when you get on those things and like when they played bowling brook and outside of chicago my cousin lives 20 minutes from there I've played the golf course. Well, you can't play that. It's only 80 bucks. The golf course is unbelievable, right. So you get these craig ranches and you get these stuff before majors dude it. Just they're so hard, man, like they're so so hard robbie's got some comments unless you're going to p joe no, I was kidding because you were.
Speaker 2:You were on a tangent, so I'm a product oh whoa, all right.
Speaker 1:So robbie says I'm giving the pga lineup a chance. Frisco aeronomic, just different types of courses. Yes, yes, I. And then, uh, in regards to live, they came to vegas super bowl weekend, gave out tickets to all the club promoters and called it let's see when the football college championships and final four are here. So I'm.
Speaker 2:Let me ask eric this what is, what is the identity of the pga championship? Is it because all the only pros can play? No, is it? It's to show that golf courses can go into a into major shape because of the agronomy team? That's what I heard. I don't know anything about growing grass, yeah, so that's what I'm curious about. I know, I know you don't.
Speaker 1:Joe's dead set on. Majors have to have an identity.
Speaker 4:I remember. So my answer to that is I, in my opinion, and then being around it, the PGA championship grows rough, like certain events. It has greens that are US Open Fest ish, but fair to an extent because it's not burnout. It's not concrete. I think it Ish, but fair to an extent because it's not burnout. It's not concrete. I think it encompasses everything.
Speaker 4:You need distance, you need yardage, you need accuracy, you need to hit greens, you need spots, you need to be able to hit out of rough, because you're going to hit every fairway. You have to be able to do all that stuff to hit out of rough, because you're going to hit every fairway. You have to be able to do all that stuff, because I will argue that if you hit the rough in the US Open, you hit the green. It's not going to stop, it's going to roll off the back. I think in a PGA Championship, again, in my opinion, if you hit the right spot, it's going to somewhat stop, remotely close to where you want to be, which a US Open will not do that. So what you're saying is it's an easier US Open.
Speaker 2:It's an easier US Open. That's the identity of a PG. I disagree.
Speaker 4:I think the Greens might be. That's what you said. I did not say that You're putting words in my mouth. Come on, Joe.
Speaker 1:Don't put words in Eric's mouth.
Speaker 4:Come on, dude.
Speaker 2:It's what you described. Sorry, you didn't say that.
Speaker 3:Do you think it's more of like a and you shouldn't really say this for a major tournament, but do you think it's more of a prep to get ready for what the US Open is going to be? Because literally everything you said that you have to do in a PGA championship you have to do in a U S open too, but, granted the conditions are magnified times 10.
Speaker 4:Yes, I think you can prepare for a U S open and if you hit a good shot and do a green, you still get poked in the booty hole in a pga championship again. My opinion you can hit a decent shot in the green and still end up with maybe at least you're on the green, if that makes sense, like at least you're have a putt for it, not saying you're gonna make the putt, not saying you're not gonna three putt or we've watched people watch. I'm sorry we've make the putt, not saying you're not going to three putt or we've watched people watch. I'm sorry we've watched people putt. How do you say that Putts off a green? Of course, but at least you're on the green, which at US Open you will not be.
Speaker 3:Yeah.
Speaker 4:And you chip it on the green and then you're off the green again and you like, I don't mind hard golf, I don't want to watch. Not saying he would do it, but I don't want to watch scotty scheffler hit the green, it roll off the back him, chip it on the green, lip it out for the chip, go off the green and just keep going back and forth like it's not fun to me. The best golfers in the world I don't want to see them be embarrassed Now you get a bad shot in the water or whatever things happen.
Speaker 3:Correct.
Speaker 4:I think that's fair From your perspective. Do you find?
Speaker 1:the.
Speaker 3:PGA Championship more enjoyable to watch than the US Open.
Speaker 1:So, from your perspective, do you find the PGA Championship more enjoyable to watch than the US Open?
Speaker 4:my side. Yes, I watch the. I love watching the Open, the PGA. I don't mind the US Open. I don't like people being embarrassed.
Speaker 2:Like I grew up in chicago watching michael jordan, I don't want to see michael jordan playing against us for, like I don't want to see people get embarrassed like it's not fun to me yeah yeah, that's interesting, though, like the different perspectives, because you have seen the other side, you know what I mean, and it's like I don't want to see people get embarrassed.
Speaker 1:But, like you know, he just wants it mic'd up I, I would love it mic'd up 100 percent.
Speaker 2:Um, I do agree with your statement about it being fair for the best golf courses. Uh, best golfers in the world, yeah, um, I just I would love to see them highlight some of the other. Like dude, how sick would mid pines be? Never, championship, yeah, I mean, they probably can't host it. But like I just I want, I want it never would happen. They just I want our pine needles Never. Pine needles is not a tourist spot. Lpga tour.
Speaker 3:Play the U S open, yeah.
Speaker 2:Like, how sick would pine needles be? For? I just want them to highlight some of the great call golf courses that are around this country that you have the opportunity to play or network to be able to play. That's all I want. I want them to create an identity of being a little bit different than the US Open and then to your point, they are PGA pros playing in it who are coming from these other golf courses.
Speaker 4:So why, if their golf course I don't know how you measure it, but if it qualifies, then they should be on it. I don't see anything wrong with that. I agree with that see.
Speaker 2:So the us open gives a chance for anybody in the country to grind their way through an extensive qualifier. That's a person at a golf course, I know, but exactly why does the PGA Championship play the same golf courses occasionally, occasionally, not all the time I can give you the answer, but literally you're going to get banned.
Speaker 4:If I give you the answer on, literally you're gonna get banned. If I give you the answer.
Speaker 2:I don't need to hear the answer, but I just, I just want them. I'll text it to you guys. Yeah, I just, I just want. I just want them. I just want them to sit like I like the pga championship. My only grief with them is I don't need to see something I've seen before. I want them to play something I haven't seen. And that's politics, and that's all that, and I get that.
Speaker 4:But I don't think there's anything wrong with what you're saying Like, yeah, that's all it is. It's the same principle but different meaning. I'm going to go see Joseph Bramlett at colonial Thursday. If my friends aren't playing, I don't care, I don't want to go, I don't want to see it. I don't want to go to a golf tournament. I legit could give a damn If one of you three are in it. I'm in. I want to go see you. Better be there, I'm going to go heckle you there.
Speaker 4:Well, I'm going to heckle you, so there's a chance I might get kicked out, but that's why I go. That's what I enjoy, that's what I want to see. Hey you want to go to a golf tournament? No, no, you want to go to this major. Is it the Masters? No, I'm out. I don't care.
Speaker 2:Do you want to go? Nope, don't do it Come to.
Speaker 1:Vegas four times a year Never bring my sticks.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I love you, homie man. You are the man.
Speaker 1:I love you, hey. Thanks for hopping on man.
Speaker 4:Well, I'm here to please everybody, you're welcome anytime. Anytime, yeah, anytime. Jeremy's not there and I'm just the last call and he has one.
Speaker 1:No, anytime hey, I directly went with. You need to have me on. I said it in a few weeks.
Speaker 2:I didn't say like right now hey all right in a few weeks we'll have you back on. Hey, look at Robbie Nick.
Speaker 1:We call it to the pen.
Speaker 2:You know, bring in the right, I want to go to barcode Grab some burgers. Oh no, I'm in, yes, jumping on a plane right now.
Speaker 1:Well, thank you, sir. We really appreciate you tuning in the show and coming on and spewing your love for the game yeah love for the game.
Speaker 4:I'm the most jaded, one of the most jaded humans on earth I know did you kick him?
Speaker 2:no, I didn't oh, his phone died his phone died.
Speaker 1:All right, thank you, mr greenlee eric greenlee, eric eric greenlee, everybody, thank you he has a wealth of knowledge that, uh, a lot of us just don't understand. Man, he is a smart guy when it comes to the game. So, um, let's do, do, do, boom, oh, no, we'll just leave that like that, all right, uh, so, um, we had somebody leave a question before the show even started. Uh, it was from uh, shannon, uh, 13 brewing. Uh, hey guys, couple questions. Do each of you have a favorite club you swing? Do each of you have a favorite club you swing? Do each of you have a favorite ball to hit? Thanks, looking forward to hearing it tomorrow. So I'll leave that up there, uh, and we can and we'll, we'll go around, we'll go, you know, around, robin here. Uh, dan, what, what would uh, what would your answers be to that?
Speaker 3:I don't have a favorite club. I have two favorite clubs, actually three favorite clubs Right now. Well, of course, the driver, because everybody likes it and bombs. I love my new putter, so putting is my second favorite thing right now. Putting is my second favorite thing right now and my third favorite club right now is my five wood, my apex uw I absolutely love that club murder I smash that fucking club murder.
Speaker 3:It's so easy to hit and I hit it straight. So, yeah, those are. Those are my three. And then favorite golf ball uh, for the longest for the last 25 years it's been a Pro V1 model, whether it's bouncing back and forth between the 1 and the 1X, but currently, right now, experimenting with the Callaway Triple Diamond and really liking that one. So right now I think the Callaway Triple Diamond is going to go in the bag for a while.
Speaker 1:Very good golf ball.
Speaker 3:Very good golf ball.
Speaker 1:Very good, joe, what you got.
Speaker 2:I'm second because you're going to go on a tangent. Nope, nope, nope.
Speaker 1:I just can't wait to hear you go 64 degree wide open, five feet from the front of the green to a front pin. I'm full swing in that bitch. 60 feet in the air.
Speaker 2:Favorite clubs a one iron, I have one in the bag lion, uh, no, obviously my favorite golf club in the bag is a lob wedge 60 degree, no 58s, no 62s, 60 degree lob wedge, 60 all day. Uh, that is my favorite. Love my five wood. Uh, turned down like a four. Still don't love the shaft in that thing, um, but we'll dial it in one day. Love the driver. Love hitting bombs, of course, um. Favorite ball I used to love the pro v1, but, uh, I love the pro v1x. Yellow only, uh, only yellow golf balls. For me, yellow pro v1x is what I prefer to play. But I also love, love, love the love. The Wilson Staff model, not the X, but just the regular Staff model, the current version. Love that ball. I prefer to only play the Pro-V1X or the Wilson Staff model. And what else is?
Speaker 1:that, that's it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, that's it. I'm super picky with everything, so I won't rock a bag with a big logo from an OEM Callaway or Titleist or TaylorMade thing on my thing because I like to.
Speaker 1:Where's that question at?
Speaker 2:I don't see that question.
Speaker 1:No, I'm just saying it.
Speaker 2:Oh okay, all right, no, I'm just, I'm just saying it. Oh okay, all right, I'm just me, that's, that's joe, going on a tangent, yeah, tangent. I don't, I don't rock oem uh bags because, uh, if I don't have your club in the bag, I would feel like a loser. I don't, I don't like mallet covers I, I rock a blade. Shot off strokes game. Shout out goodwood, shout out olsen. Um, yeah, I am me and I'm proud of it and, most importantly, use what you want to use and what works for you. Most importantly, angry later importantly, hang grease later.
Speaker 1:Yeah, oh okay. I don't really have a favorite club, um I I love chipping with my 54, so if, if anything, I'd have to go with that.
Speaker 1:I don't hit bombs, so Driver's not like it's just a club for me because I don't hit bombs and my go-to. I've been trying the Callaway Chrome Tour for a couple weeks now, just not happy with it off the tee like I have been every other time. So the last two rounds I've played I went back to the Wilson Staff model Just a damn good golf ball. It's so underrated, absolutely so underrated. We were talking at Summit with Steve, the head pro out there and we were talking golf balls and he wasn't. It was when the triple diamond ball just came out and we were telling him about it and he said Matt, what ball do you play? And I said I play the Wilson Staff model. He goes, oh, you're the one. So yeah, it doesn't get a lot of press but it's a really, really good golf ball.
Speaker 2:It really is a great golf ball. Dan played it for a little bit, jeremy's probably played it right.
Speaker 1:Jeremy's been playing it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it's really good, really good, Hide that here.
Speaker 1:I'll show you my bombs Ready.
Speaker 2:I didn't get any of these videos. What the hell's going on over here? Oh yeah.
Speaker 3:Rich Bomb, bomb 3-40.
Speaker 1:Then we had this one Boom.
Speaker 3:Yeah, shot Rich 3-36. Great shot.
Speaker 2:I got a video from Rocky of me missing a putt and you got you hitting the fairway.
Speaker 1:Yeah, well, you know.
Speaker 2:Hey, shout out to the Golf Fathers, go follow them on YouTube. Instagram Rocky. We got to play with Rocky in the Vegas Golf Network tournament. Yeah, it was a blast. They're doing great things, man, they really are.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it was a blast. They're doing great things, man, they really are. I was talking with Steven Jackson last night and I was telling him I said you know it was hilarious. I played with Rocky out at Cascada. Jeremy and I played with him and Gino at Cascada one day, but I've never been in the car with him and he had Pete shout out. Pete, awesome guy. He had him out there doing the video.
Speaker 1:He recorded the whole tournament, all the strokes that Rocky took, and it was hilarious because I hear him talking. He was talking so much and you know, I don't care, it doesn't bother me whatsoever but it was like if I was thinking out loud, that's what I would be doing. Yeah, and so it was. It was totally like rocky's inner thoughts being expressed, and it was. It was.
Speaker 2:it was fun to watch, it was fun to be around he was talking to the people, people watching, you know yeah, I know, I know, but it's, it's.
Speaker 1:It's a different way of seeing somebody golf, because the the communication that he was doing to the camera, that shit that we all do every single day, but it's in our head, you know, and he he puts it out there, so it's it's. Uh, it's, it's fun to watch the show. It was fun to watch the behind the scenes and, uh, yeah, they, they recorded the two fairways I hit that day.
Speaker 2:So yeah and it's uh, it's, it's fun. I mean, obviously, like you said, to watch the behind the scenes, but like dude rocky's such a good dude and pete was awesome, um, and it it was a really. And when they started they said we don't want to be in your way and they never were and it was just like just fun to be, there.
Speaker 2:It was a great round of golf. I enjoyed it fully and I haven't paid attention to like putts or shots that much in a long time, and it was. It felt a little bit differently. You know I'm a sole golfer but I was trying to play. It's been a while since I've tried to actually play. It was enjoyable with the company. It was great. I loved it.
Speaker 1:I had a good time. Here's the winners for the event Mr Hodges third win in a row. Jasonason roberts got his first ever vgn win in the spades division congrats to him cleaning up, cleaning up oh my god, did he have a day whoo bought a house off of that one, chris got uh his second vgn win his first one this year.
Speaker 1:And uh, jordan pierce uh, oh, here you can't even see his name. That is terrible. I'm sorry, jordan, let me uh remedy that. There we go. Uh, jordan pierce won his second in a row and earned a promotion to the uh hearts division. So congrats to all those guys I don't know why you're doing that, um for their, their hard work, their dedication to in bettering their golf lives within the bgn. So, dan dan, you've been on a heater, bro yes, sir so what's? What's going on? What is it?
Speaker 3:I don't know, I don't know, I think it's just, uh, just a little confidence with the putting it's coming around.
Speaker 1:There's kind of a lot of Callaway in your bag.
Speaker 3:Yeah, there is a lot of Callaway and you know that's definitely helped. But I just, I don't know. I just get up for tournaments. You know I go around. I'll go out and play with you guys and fuck around and you know, and shoot a 76, 78, 82, whatever the fuck I have to do, but when it comes to tournament time, I just, I don't know, I just lock in and go.
Speaker 2:AG said it's the LA hats.
Speaker 3:It could be it could be. World champions. I mean, they're not playing like it. Right now. I may try one the next event. I need something. It could be, you know, world champions, I mean, they're not playing like it right now, but I may, I may try one the next event.
Speaker 1:So I need something. My, my darling wife, who I adore and I love dearly, uh, I'm sitting there on the couch, uh, paying out all the side money, uh, to everybody, and she's like so how'd you do? And I said, yeah, well, not that great she goes. You know, you practice a lot, shouldn't you be?
Speaker 2:better.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you do.
Speaker 2:I was like ouch that hurts, shout out Erica, let's go. Yeah, but 100% right.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I should be playing better, because, man, it was so weird. I don't hit the lefts like that. I was hitting it left, left, left, left, left, left and yeah.
Speaker 1:I was telling Dan Vorand I shout out Crafted Wellness, dr Freeman, he's the one that put my rib back in place and it freed me up a lot. I had so much rotation was it was like wow. And so I just, I was just so fast at the ball, I just was pulling everything left and and, uh, you know, hey, when you're, when you're left off the girt, off the fairway, off the tee, uh, at nationals, uh, you have some difficult second shots. I had a lot of difficult second shots. That's what happens. That's golf. I was incredibly happy with the Goodwood Julian and I got that thing bent to the right lie angle for me. I didn't have as many lip outs as I did the practice round, because the practice round we played on Tuesday I had like six lip outs. It was ridiculous, but we did have some. I know Peeler had some. Joe, you had a few, I had a few, yeah, but hey, Dude, honestly, I was fucking dropping putts.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you were rolling the ball really well. I dropped a lot of bangers bro. Yeah. Yeah, you were rolling a lot of bangers, bro. Yeah, I, I was the geek on on seven, I was way up at the back and and had that downhill downwind left to right or half pipe putt and uh put it really close and I I was like that that was awesome. So I mean I had some good, I had some good shots out there, but uh, not nearly good enough to uh get any points that are worth anything.
Speaker 2:So yeah, it was fun, man. I mean vegas golf network is the greatest league in las vegas. If you're not involved, I mean it's time to get involved. Yeah, that's all. I mean it's time.
Speaker 1:Eight spots open right now for the major June 22nd TPC Vegas.
Speaker 3:How many?
Speaker 1:spots. Eight spots are open right now, so I mean it's a month away. It's a month away, you got time. Get your game dialed in there's 19 people Grind, grind, grind.
Speaker 2:19 people that haven't responded.
Speaker 3:Come on, scratch golfers, get out there. We need to feel bigger seriously dan needs some competition.
Speaker 2:Dan needs some competition, uh-oh I got calling out jeremy I got plenty of competition.
Speaker 3:No, no, no, no.
Speaker 1:I just want more, more competition more than that more no disrespect to you guys in the Diamonds Division. All of you could whoop me on the course, so I'm not saying that we need more of it.
Speaker 2:Colby said you better bring it at TPCLV Dan People coming for you. Bert 5000 said might be feeling sick for work on the 22nd.
Speaker 1:Yeah that's Jason Roberts. There we go. Better watch out, jason Roberts.
Speaker 2:There we go, Better watch out.
Speaker 1:Dan. Let's go, yeah, I would love to get 20 people in that flight. God, it would be so good for you guys, me too. So good for you guys. We'll see, it's there. Send me a message, I'll get you signed up.
Speaker 2:It's easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Speaker 1:There's a lot of golf left with two majors and four other events. I mean there's a lot of golf still before the finals.
Speaker 2:I'm not going to say it, but oh what are you going to say I'll tell you later.
Speaker 1:I don't want to say it. But oh, what are you gonna say? I'll tell you later. Come on. I don't want to say, I don't want to say it on the podcast?
Speaker 2:no, it's. It's something that would put heat on you, matt, so I'm not gonna say it oh wow, well thanks, joe maybe, maybe we work on it for next year okay, sounds good I think it'd be. I think it'd be a great incentive, but yeah, alright, joe, when's the next?
Speaker 1:what not show?
Speaker 2:currently scheduled for Friday night. We'll see. If that happens, you catch me when you catch me. If I'm there, I'm there. If I'm not, I'm not. So it is what it is. Ball marker will be hidden somewhere in the las vegas valley tomorrow at some point, I don't know when, where oh, do you know what you should do?
Speaker 1:you should tell, tell people where you're going to put it right now and if they yeah, you know, listen to the podcast and you can get a extra clue.
Speaker 3:Oh, I have no idea.
Speaker 2:He has no idea fausto's parking lot no table six shout out big matt, he was on the hunt today and uh, big matt has uh roberto's plugs. So there might be a situation where you go order a hidden green special at a certain roberto's and, uh, you get a ball marker oh, I don't know if that. I don't know if that's gonna happen, but it's potential damn um, yeah right, yeah and you know what the.
Speaker 2:You know what the hit and green special would be, but we might add a little certain sauce to it if you will. But uh, we'll see yeah, cliff shocked.
Speaker 1:It wasn't in a bean burrito somewhere.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I know there will be one, not saying it's going to happen tomorrow, but there will be one at Zia Records, that's for sure. I think it's kind of cool also hiding these ball markers across Vegas in certain spots that.
Speaker 1:Are close to your work.
Speaker 2:No, let you into my personality. You work? No, let you into my personality you know, let you into my personality. Like, I like bean and cheese burritos, I like um records, I like golf, so like those are probably yeah, like pokey express. So goodwill, yeah, yeah, goodwills, because I need inventory. If you want to sell clubs, let me know. Uh, I will offer you less than you would want, but if you want to do it, I'm your man robbie said he's not going to roberto's for bnc no, it would be a flip on a bnc.
Speaker 2:So it would there, would there, wouldn't? It wouldn't just be a bean and cheese, it would be like something extra.
Speaker 4:For sure I'm not going to just do that to you because that wouldn't be a hit, and green special yeah, we'll see if that happens.
Speaker 2:I'm not going to say it right now, that wouldn't be special. You get it, you get it. If you want a ball marker, you go order it and you get it and you bite into it and it is what it is. I'm not going to tell you what it is. I mean like I'm blind ordering.
Speaker 3:I'm blind ordering you should, it will be it will be bean and cheese with something hit bean and cheese with hitting green slaps in them and it won't be just the wrap is all slaps.
Speaker 2:It won't be a bean. If I did that, I would my journal must die.
Speaker 1:He choked on this.
Speaker 2:If I did that, I would have to take the time out to hang out, so I would probably be there. Oh, Joe working the counter at roberto not working the crime.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I like it, I like it, the drive-thru window dude, I've worked drive-thru windows.
Speaker 2:I'm good with that. You'd be good on that radio bro well, that would uh, that would eliminate the uh, the randomness of the Roberto's location.
Speaker 1:Here we go, East Sando, hitting greens ball marker.
Speaker 2:questionable 7-11 in the Valley must-see TV. Yeah, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1:I don't know, that's just a thought, because Cliff with the dagger might improve the taste of Roberto's Ooh. I have it in my head, I know what it would be.
