PGA Show Buzz And Industry Trends

Long Drives, Leaks, And What’s New

Well, we've known about the name since gosh, late October.

And uh then we saw the head early December. Um, but yeah, then we got our fitting heads in. So that's the quantum max, and I'll I'll blow up my screen for everybody if they need me to. Uh, then we have the quantum max D, which is similar. Like I said, if you guys want me to, I'll break down each one. Then we'll go, let's see. I'll show you this. The triple diamond. This is the the first one that has the complete carbon all the way around. So all of them have the same top this year. There's it's not different. There's no matte finish, no gloss finish. It looks a lot like the AI Smoke. It's the same pattern that was on the AI smoke. So see what lights I have there.

This is the exciting news for everybody. Instead of waiting for this to come out later on in the summer, the triple diamond max is gonna be available right out the gate. So that is an exciting thing for a lot of people. Looks like it really does. Something different they did this year is the max fast, which is our lightweight senior female, uh, people who can't swing it fast, head, they did the complete carbon surround as well. So the max fast looks just like the triple diamond in appearance, but it doesn't have any of the adjustable weights set up super draw by is super lightweight. So that's really nice. And then I also brought along the fairway woods. That's that's the three wood. That's the normal the three wood triple diamond looks exactly the same, except the weight port up front was. Is that just the max? Same yeah, max is their their stock line that or max is the same thing as the like the elite. So they didn't do just quantum, it's quantum max.

Wow, Isaiah, what's I haven't seen you in a while, buddy. But this is the one of the unique, unique things that Callaway has done this year is the weighting system. You can see there's red and black.

USB C drives. That was so funny. So the red one is nine grams, the black one is one gram, and you can swap those back and forth to help with the draw bias, fade bias. Uh, neutral and draw is what they call it. And then the uh the triple diamonds are neutral and fade because the triple diamonds are fade bias heads. Hit it today, real solid. Yeah, Trey was out there today playing with Julian. So go back to this.

Design Details: Carbon, Weights, And Face Tech

Matt 11:42

Yeah. Well, so what we've seen, what we've seen. So uh I'll explain this to everybody. So what what they've done on the face is very unique. And it's from what I've known and what I've heard, it hasn't been done before in golf. So uh most of the faces on all drivers are titanium, minus the new Mizuno and Taylor made with their all carbon. Uh so titanium, they they just everybody likes the way titanium reacts. Uh, but they were trying to increase the ball speed with it, and they thinned it out, right? They made it 14% thinner. And there's a little, I found out today there's a little Easter egg on this. Let me see where I can find it at. Greenly. What up, Greenley? What up, Greenley? So, right here you can see in the in the white, right there, it says 1417. Yeah, so the the face is 14% thinner, and the face is 17% more responsive. So that's a little little Easter egg they put on there. Uh, so the the face is made up of three materials. They they thinned it out, but then they were finding out that it was at highest speeds, at that thin of a face, it was cracking too too too soon. Uh so they had their engineers develop this. It is so funny, they say military grade, and everybody in the comments is like, I was in the military. That's bullshit. Military grade is as cheap as possible we can get it done. So uh, but they they created this material called polymesh, and that helps bond the carbon, which is the third layer, to the titanium face. So it's the carbon layer access support to the titanium face for the flexing, deflecting speed, energy, and pushing it back out.

And I was gonna ask when the face says 17% thinner, is it thinner than the elite, or is it thinner than just the average or 14?

14, yeah, 14% thinner than the elite face. Yeah, they thinned it out that much.

Because the threshold, how much more room do they got?

Well, that's the thing. You can't, I mean, the the limits have been maxed out, you know. It's yeah, you can't you can't do anything. You got to find different ways to create speed. So that's right, yeah. You know, you can only swing it so fast and have an efficiency number, you know, that that that doesn't exceed certain specs, and so they're trying to find different ways around that. And this is one of the ways that they've done it to having a super responsive face that transports a lot of energy into the ball. And uh it's I mean, it's it feels really good. I was surprised. I you know, I wasn't expecting the world, but you know, it's been pretty impressive.

So you're you're a cow, you're you you're a callaway guy, you're a company fan. Company man. Is it is it actually better? And is it actually better than AI Smoke? So what I still like AI smoke over Elite, personally.

Yeah, oh Julian's the same way. He feels the same way, and uh a lot of people feel that way. I took my shaft when we did our uh staff fittings at Dragon Ridge. I took my staff or my shaft and my head in and hit you know 10-15 balls. Shaft and head took your balls and uh then I I put it on I tried the triple diamond, the triple diamond max, and the and the max, the standard max. And I saw the best results with this head, the max head. Uh and based on similarity, same shaft, same swing time, everything, I I saw an increase of about six to seven miles an hour ball speed. Which for me, you know, I'm flirted, you know, one yeah, I flirt at 146 to 150 in my ball speed. So getting that up to 156, 157, it's that's a game changer for me. You know, it's I'm not blasting 300 yard drives now automatically, but I am seeing more ball speed. And then I played the new Callaway ball, which is pretty damn good too. And uh I saw some good stuff.

Did you did you guys happen to see uh Roger Steele's numbers when hitting the quantum and the elite?

I saw I saw a video of him, I don't recall.

Ball Speed, Spin Drops, And Fitting Results

He had like 30 yards in difference. He was hitting like 350 carries and stuff like that, you know, and still having like 2100 and 2200 percent or 2200 um like RPMs and stuff. And he was getting called out by, I guess, some of his people. So he went like did like a whole video where he just shot it all unedited, just swapping heads and all that stuff. But if you can gain something considerable like that, 30 miles 30 yards, or Matt's case, six, seven miles per hour in ball speed. That's a that's a fucking huge, huge thing. Yeah, yeah, that is a game changer.

I mean, Julian was hitting Julian was hitting 190 ball speed with rage balls at dragon. Julian's a freak.

I love you, Juju. Listen, and I mean it, I mean it in the best way, but you are an absolute clown show freak, bro, when it comes to hitting hitting a driver. The stuff that the stuff that Julian does also a lefty ridiculous with golf clubs. So, yeah, him hitting 190 does not surprise me one bit because I'm sure he can probably do that with every golf club.

Yeah, so we we were at Summit a couple weekends ago.

Oh, look, Eric, Eric just said Dragon Ridge, LOL name drop, and then he dropped summit.

So we were at Summit, and one of the guys is playing a GT3, titleist GT3, and he's good good player, good swing speed, and he was hitting the ball and it was like really high. And so we put him on the monitor, and he was he was spinning at like 4400, right? And the the ball just it would climb and hit a wall, and so they have a green that was out there at like 240, and so his ball would land and it'd stay on the green, right? And so then we put him in, I think it was the triple diamond max. It's triple diamond or triple diamond max, and he was flying the green, and the ones that he didn't fly the green would bounce and then shoot off, and his spin dropped to like 2800. You know, it's it's it's insane how much better people are hitting it when when you get it dialed in. And this is what's the biggest surprise is this head, the max head, massive reduction in spin with this thing. I mean, it is insane what we're seeing. Just somebody coming in with their their club, 4,500 to 5,000 spin, put this in and it drops by 2,000. It's it's incredible. So super forgiving, low spin. I think this, I think, just from what I've seen in the people that I've been fitting, I've seen less spin with this than with the triple diamond. It's crazy. Yeah, triple diamond is is 450cc and the other ones are 460.

That's not bad. And then they're the triple diamond, triple diamond max, does it kind of have the same sort of triangular shape? Or is it the same as like the other?

Now, I'm not saying that it's because of Callaway because I'm not a company man myself, but he went and got fit and he got out of the brand. He's brand agnostic now because he realizes that not everything is gonna just be one way.

I will say I played Paiute yesterday and I took my TSR3 out just to try it out again. It feels like absolute dog shit compared to the Elite. It does not feel good. And I Titleist has always felt slightly dead, but dude, it does not feel good compared to the elite. So I'm excited to try the quantum. Payment field never fails.

Wedges, Putters, And Price Talk

The new putters are pretty good. I mean, that that new face is really nice. The new weighting system is really nice. There's gonna be a lot of people that really like that putter design with it being I hate saying zero torque, but just low torque and with with the shaft closer to a center-shafted putter, it's gonna feel a lot more comfortable to a lot of people, uh, but still have that benefit of not having a lot of torque in it for those who who like that.

Hell yeah. Definitely looking forward to hitting it. Yeah, I hit the fairway wood. So as you guys know, you've seen me play, I struggle with getting my fairway woods in the air. And when Callaway went to this drop design out of the weight. When they went to this drop design, it removed the weight back here and made this a better ground interaction. I was excited for it. And I I got the five wood in the in the titanium, and I really like it. It's good. Um, but still have issues with getting it up in the air. No issues getting these up in the air. I don't know what the difference is.

Oh, it's one of my biggest, it's I hate it. I absolutely hate it. Uh, but no issues getting that up in the air. It is wow. Wow. Mattel we're elite titanium.

I went to a super lightweight, kicky shaft just trying to get it up in the air, but still that's that's why I didn't, that's why I shook that three wood.

It was so fucking hard to hit. I was like, God, man, even if with even with the I put I think I had like five in the front and like 13 weight in the back, 13 grams in the back, and I still was hitting it way too low.

I think I have I think I have an eight and an eight in there right now, just to get the swing because I you know play a little bit shorter than standard. But uh when you hit it good, yeah, man. It goes for sure. I could top it guarantee. Oh, you'd be surprised. It's it's pretty damn good. I'm officially team Callaway now. Yes, I love seeing that. Love seeing that.

You can go two flat, two shwo up, two down, you know, and and adjustability on that. They brought that to the fairy woods. So the three and the five will be you can adjust the lie angle, which is, in my opinion, a game changer. You know, if if you're having a problem with the ball going a certain way, you can adjust the lie angle and see if you can get it to come back or not. Um, the seven woods will still be bonded, so nothing there. But the the three and the five.

I mean, if you're new to the game and you're wanting to get some new irons and you can you can hit the ball, but you just don't hit it well, go try those because my god, they are easy to hit. Scales was we had a golf galaxy clinic uh last week, and Steve Scales, our friend Scales, was and he was hitting the uh the seven iron like 215 yards.
