After Show Setup In Vegas
SPEAKER_04BGTG, bro. BGTG.
SPEAKER_00What's up, fellas?
JeremyYou guys, you guys pop my trip chair. Say it. Say it. Why are you waiting?
MattFor everybody tuning in right now to this week's show, this is this is an example of one of our after shows. So uh right now, it's Thursday, uh 4 a.m. in Vegas, 7 a.m. on the East Coast, and we are getting ready to play Land Man. Uh so by when this comes out, we're gonna be on the golf course. Uh so the reason we're doing this is so you know, we've been talking about our after shows for about eight months now, and uh they're only available to our premium subscribers. And so we thought we'll open this one up to everybody, and you know, kind of see if you even give a shit to what we're doing about this. But this is this is just us, no agenda, no script, no uh items, no agenda, just us bullshitting, talking golf. As Joe said this a while ago, and he said it best. We're gonna talk about this shit anyways. Why not record it?
SPEAKER_04So that's what we do. I said it best, guys. Mark that down in your calendar today. Write that down.
MattJeremy was telling me that Joey asked him, Do Matt and Joe go at it like that all the time? Oh yeah. Oh yeah, like brothers. Yeah, and I said the best part is when we play with people that don't know how close we are, that you think that we're being dumbass. Yeah, Joe and I act like like feuding brothers on the golf course. It's it's it's fun, it's funny. Yeah, but you know, when I when I pull off a left-handed shot from a bush, he's the first person to give me props. So it's uh LUS and then tell me I was wrong.
SPEAKER_04You didn't hit it that far. I mean, it was 247-yard left-handed jokes. You didn't hit it that far, but it was great. It was great.
DanI hit it like 280. I didn't say that.
JeremyOne of those stories, it gets longer every time you tell.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, 170. There's no fucking way. Still, there's no way that there's no way that happened. It was a great shot, but there's no way. 170, insane. No way, but it was dope. It was really dope.
MattGive me my fucking moment. Give me my moment, please.
SPEAKER_04Oh, you had it when I told you you did a you had a great shot. Yeah, the moment. I had a moment.
SPEAKER_01Then I had to compound it.
Left-Handed Shots And Golf Chaos
SPEAKER_01Do it for the moment.
MattYeah, that that was a do-it-for-moment moment.
SPEAKER_01Do it for the moment.
MattWell, and then and then you gotta see this. This is hilarious. So uh Friday, uh, Julian, myself, Trey, and Dane uh played uh you played with Dane? Yeah. Uh I haven't seen Dane in a long time. Played Rio and on number uh 10, 11, the downhill par four, the long downhill par four. There's that bunker on the right that I just love to hit into. Well, I I hit into it and it bounced up and it was sitting on in the rough. And I mean, it was you know chest high if I'm standing in the bunker. So there's no way I was gonna hit it. So I go stand on the hill, and there wasn't enough room between the ball and the lip of the bunker for me to stand. And so I said, fuck it. I turned it over and hit it left-handed. And uh Julian's like, wait, wait, wait, wait, and and grab my camera, my phone and recorded it. And uh the this is let me go full screen so you guys can see. Sorry, everybody, this isn't on YouTube, but oops. So this is this is the video Julian took of me doing it.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, he stopped before what is a boomerang? It's a boomerang, it's a boomerang.
SPEAKER_01I like it, yeah. And then and then the next the next video. Shout out Julian Amigos on the green baby. Julian is so awesome at missing the moments.
SPEAKER_04That is funny. Oh he's worried about that steak in the freezer he left behind in North Carolina.
MattOh but yeah, so pulled off another lefty in trouble shot.
JeremySo hey, you hit a lefty at Wild Horse, too. Remember the the little chip out that you hit and it like hit the bottom of a tree stump and then kicked backwards?
MattOr on uh no, no, I didn't hit that lefty, I hit that right-handed. Are you sure? Yeah, yeah, because remember I said I'm getting new clubs anyway. That's right. That's right. Yeah, should have hit it lefty. I should have well, I I didn't know where it was gonna go, lefty. That was the problem, and I I kind of needed it to go a certain way, and I I hit it good, it just hit a tree, you know. It I was stuck with hardcore.
SPEAKER_04You're solid lefty though, because you started playing lefty and you were forced to play righty. That's what's you I mean, you got it in you. You got it in you.
MattI sometimes I'll hit some of the lefty clubs at fitting events, and I'm like, I can hit my seven iron just as far, if not further, left-handed than I can right-handed. Should I switch? Should I switch it? But it's got I have zero control with the face, like none, like absolutely zero control with the face. Oh, there's death again. Have a good one, Joe. Thanks for being here. Take care, buddy.
JeremyYeah, I don't have that gift. I I am I can't do anything left-handed. Same.
MattBut that's the only thing I can do left-handed. I can I can hit a baseball and I can swing a golf club. That's it.
DanYeah, I am an absolutely clumsy retard when it comes to left hand.
MattOh, I'm gonna have to we're gonna have to get a left-handed club then and just have some. We should try it.
JeremyI mean, we did that one thing where we threw the ball left-handed at Coyote Springs.
DanYeah, we're gonna take some lefty cuts.
MattYeah, so I'll I'll uh we'll maybe we'll do a um a scavenge at a uh place in in Nebraska at a little thrift shop.
DanCan we do a build for the trip or does Julie need the equipment?
MattWhat do you want to do?
DanLike a triple diamond nine degree with a FI shaft in it?
MattMaybe I'll talk to you tomorrow about that.
unknownOkay.
MattJoe said he had the wrong charger in his laptop. Joe will be back in a minute.
DanYeah.
MattNo, uh, do you uh tomorrow at um legacy, do you want me to put that TI Fusion together for you? Do you want to hit it?
DanTI Fusion.
MattOr the TI uh uh three wood?
DanUm yeah, I might as well. I'll try it.
MattOkay.
DanYeah.
MattJeremy was destroying it. Which one? The T the T I.
JeremyOh, the three wood?
MattYeah.
JeremyIt is hot.
MattI would love to hit that. If you bring that, I would love to hit that hot. And you like the 7X band?
unknownYeah.
MattIs that what you're playing in three wood? 7X? Right.
DanYeah. Can you do you have an eight? Do you have an 8X map?
MattI don't think so. That's like Julian and Trey's department. I don't I don't have those. I don't know if any. We very I mean, we're lucky we have the X shafts that we do. Especially with Fairway Woods, I it's we're finally starting to get in some some good X shafts for for Fairway Woods that people can test. You know, 8x and 9x is are just anomalies for average golfer.
DanSo do you have any of the new link shafts?
MattUh yes. What is this?
DanOh, Joe's on his cell phone.
MattAt least turn your phone so your same that doesn't matter.
DanLandscape.
MattYeah.
DanLandscape instead of. Oh, hey, give me a second.
MattHey.
DanThere he is.
MattOh my goodness. I I think all of our issues are gonna be blamed on Joe tonight.
SPEAKER_04I had the wrong I dude, USB-C is very confusing. Yeah, because now everything everything uses USB C nowadays. That's a problem.
Kids At 16 Or 40
MattMine uses that magnetic one. Yeah, I uses the magnetic charger. That's not even close to a USB C. How the hell do you think that's charging your I don't know?
JeremyI think his was the USB C era. I got kids, bro. I got kids.
SPEAKER_04I got kids.
MattOh, oh, here's a here. So I meant to ask this earlier when we had more people on the show, but Brooklyn asked this question earlier today at dinner. Um I don't even remember what brought it up. But she said, Would you rather have had a kid at 15 or 16 or 40? And I somebody Eric is like, does Dan? I said, No, Dan doesn't have no desire to have kids. He's very happy with no kids. Jeremy, what is what is your thoughts?
JeremyI I I'll wait to tell you what my I would probably say younger. I don't that's a that's a tough one, but Joe?
SPEAKER_04I'd say probably younger. I wouldn't want to go 15, 16, but if 16 or 40.
Matt16 or 40, those are the options.
SPEAKER_04Probably 16. Get it over with.
MattGet it over with.
SPEAKER_04I mean I mean, there's so many circumstances, right? That's like yeah. But like, I wish we did it eight years prior. Because now I feel old. I feel old and tired all the time. I know. But 16, it's like, what are you gonna do? You're working at Dairy Queen, and then you send them. I mean, in the different economy, very different, there's different circumstances.
MattSo I I went younger as well. Yeah, and I said my thought process is one, it's uh early part of your life, you got the whole rest of your life, you got a lot of time to figure it out. More than likely, you have help because of that age, you're more than likely at home and you have family that can help. Um, yeah, I said, and 40's tough. 40's tough. Tell me about it. Yeah, and yeah, Brooklyn's like, no way, no. So you're saying you want me to go get pregnant.
SPEAKER_00That said it all.
MattShe could have played. Erica said the same thing. And I said, I go, sweetie, what you don't understand is we've gone through it, we've done it. We we've seen our kids grow and they're getting to where they're, you know, you're about to leave for college next year, and Emma's already gone, and you know, we have the rest of our lives ahead of us to do things that we haven't been able to do because we've been raising you, and uh, you know, I think it's 28, 29, 30.
SPEAKER_04You're good.
MattYeah, I had I was 35 when basically the same, yeah.
SPEAKER_0434, 35, yeah.
MattOh, wait till wait till you go to like some school events in like third and fourth grade, and you have the 22, 23-year-old parents, and you're in your you know, late 40s.
SPEAKER_04Well, Theo Theo graduates kindergarten tomorrow.
MattYeah, that's yeah.
SPEAKER_04No idea what's going on, no idea what's going on.
MattYeah, I don't fit with them at all, at all. It was the same thing with sports, the the young parents at sporting events that they just want to hang out and be your friend. And it was like, nah, dude, I'm old, I got my friends, I don't need you.
SPEAKER_04Oh, are you the grandparents? I want no part of any of that. No part of that. Oh, just wait, Joe.
MattYou got I can't wait. I can't wait for you to tell us, no, I'm sorry, I can't play. I've got a soccer game I gotta go to.
SPEAKER_04That's coming. That'll be the day.
MattThat is coming.
DanI'll take I gotta take Coin to a dance recital.
MattHey, girl dads, that's fine. I don't care about that. Youth soccer is trash, yeah. Youth soccer is trash. Don't let them find out about soccer balls. Just be like Bobby Boucher's mom. Soccer balls are the devil.
DanPutting that fooze ball down gargantuans, devil sport.
SPEAKER_04We're talking about having kids earlier. What's your thoughts?
MattOh Katie.
SPEAKER_04So Katie, you're this so you can't hear them, but would you rather have had kids earlier? At 16, 16, or older at 40.
SPEAKER_07This is our after show, so um, well, with you or with my boyfriend at 16.
SPEAKER_04Just would you have rather had a kid earlier? You feel yeah. She said yes earlier.
unknownCan you imagine?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, we'd be free. We'd be free now. We can travel the world.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I worked with a guy.
DanUh oh. Here comes the boss of the house. There she is. Hi, Quinn. Hi. Hi, Quinn.
MattWhat you got there?
SPEAKER_01Uh the microphone.
DanWhat's up, Theo? Hi, Theo. What's up, Theo?
SPEAKER_07What's up?
MattSo I I worked with that Theo. I worked with a guy who um his kid was 18 years old, he was or 17 years old. He was a senior in high school, and he got his girlfriend pregnant. And all he talked about was three, four months, he's gone, and I am free. He ended up having two more kids. Oh my god. And he was, I think he was uh uh 42, you know, and just almost done. And oh I couldn't even imagine. Oh yeah, yeah.
DanYou guys know Steve though, but uh he's a granddad now. Yeah, that's crazy. I know his dog that's cool, bro.
SPEAKER_07That's cool though.
SPEAKER_04He's a great 42. You have all the the the love of it without the responsibility, yeah. At his age, like that's cool, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
MattMy buddy Pat, he's got five grandkids, and he loves hanging out with them because he can do whatever the hell he wants, and then they leave. Yep,
Secret Santa Gear And Trip Plans
Mattall right.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, yeah.
DanOh, we go on a bat behind the scenes on a whatnot show right now, Joe? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Hey, follow me on Instagram at hanging green. It's chase the podcast. It's the green thing behind you on the rack.
JeremyThe green thing on the clothes rack.
MattOn the clothes rack.
SPEAKER_04Oh, this is uh this is one of my secret Santa gifts from David Does It. It's uh it's a strap.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and that's right.
SPEAKER_04Oh, Bay Hill. No, it's not Bay Hill, it's uh like something in the Bahamas, Hawaii, no, Hawaii. Barber's Point, Hawaii, strap protector.
DanBabs.
SPEAKER_04Babs. So that's yeah, that's one of the uh when when we did that um Secret Santa thing from uh golf cycle, so that's what Davy got me, so he sent me that. He's uh and he also sent me um this, which I can't sell because shut out Davy does it. He sent me the United States senior open poster from whistling yeah, whistling straits. Oh, that's I haven't even opened it. He was like, I gotta do something dope.
MattI still gotta frame my uh Papago one.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, well, I don't even have one. Where's mine?
MattSorry, not Papago, Weekah. Yeah, yeah, mine. I got the I got that cheap frame or old golf poster framed. I gotta put that on the walls. I think it's massive.
DanLook at all those shirts Joe still has.
SPEAKER_04Like is all the right here, but then they call polo run. Boxes and boxes, yeah, boxes. I gotta do that.
MattYeah, you should break them down and organize it. Give yourself some.
SPEAKER_04I know I need to. Hey, I wish I had kids earlier, right? Yeah, you'd have time to do that. They'd be helping you.
MattHe could learn how to use a razor knife at an early age.
SPEAKER_04Theo does help me occasionally for sure.
MattBut cut away. Cut away.
SPEAKER_04I gotta get you guys. I gotta get Dan and Jeremy's head covers. Oh, yeah. I need a bag. Yeah, I got you. I'll put them, I'll put them in my travel bag. Actually, I gotta pull my travel bag out.
MattYeah, I gotta do the same. Yeah, knock the house off. It's time. It's time.
SPEAKER_04I did come up on this banger recently, 2017 Aaron Hills.
MattAaron Hills, US Open?
SPEAKER_04J Mac. Yeah, that's cool. USGA black. I got the books capped up. Best page black. I've played it if you didn't know.
SPEAKER_07You've played played there?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I've played it, yeah.
MattYou know, I got a I got uh I got a uh Tony Sanchez signed UNLV football.
SPEAKER_07Tony Sanchez.
DanIt's funny. Um I got a uh Derek Carr.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, mine's in the office. Yours is way better though.
MattYours looks way better than mine. Mine's on a big ball.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, mine's on a big five football.
MattOh, he's got the that's the Raider.
DanYeah, this is the one I got. This is the one I got from uh when I actually met him when we did it.
MattOh, that's the one from the tournament we won.
DanI got rid of that one.
JeremyOkay. Or did you return it to Big Five?
DanNo, I think I sold it. I sold it on Opera for like 40 bucks or something like that.
JeremyAll right, we can't return this. It's signed.
MattNo, I can't have that sign.
DanYeah. It's even got my name on it right there. That's very dawn. DC4. Even even personalized uh jersey I have says to Dan.
SPEAKER_04That's cool. Uh I think the highest offer I got on that was 80 bucks.
DanYeah, I sold mine for 40.
MattFor the Derek Carr football?
DanYeah, we can have it.
MattWow, I never even thought about selling that.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, I mean, I think it's I think it's more it's worth more than 80 bucks or 40 bucks, considering Dan what he did. I mean, that's a moment in time, guys, when we beat Derek Carr in a golf tournament in Southern Highlands. Dan just will let anything go for 40 bucks. Look at this guy.
SPEAKER_01Nothing to me. Nothing.
SPEAKER_04Nah, and Jeremy just pulling out. I think it was on 18. Or Matt, you chipped in on 18, or was it Jeremy?
DanI think it was Matt putted his ass off when we went to the house. Oh, yeah. I think I think I put I used my putter twice because Matt literally made everything.
MattYeah, that was one of my best putting days ever.
SPEAKER_04We did all show up. We all showed up, though, that's for sure.
DanThat was a fun day. Yeah. I my favorite part was the church afterwards. The sermon. I wish I could, I wish I could have those minutes back. I didn't realize I was gonna have my fucking confirmation after the golf.
MattHey guys, congratulations on winning. Please have a seat in our pews. While Derek talks about the Lord.
DanEverybody bow your heads. Rabbi cars coming in.
MattThere we go.
DanOkay, we can do that.
SPEAKER_04There we go.
MattIt was so awkward because I'm sitting there going, I don't want to be here right now.
SPEAKER_04No, I wanted to leave so bad, but we had to wait.
DanJoe, your charger, your phone. There you go. Yeah, yeah, I gotcha.
SPEAKER_07I wanted to leave so bad.
SPEAKER_04Can you hear me now?
MattYeah.
SPEAKER_04I wanted to leave so bad, but we had to wait for our gifts.
MattAnd we didn't know what our gifts were.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
MattSo that made it even more. Oh, we do need to kind of stick around for this because there's some there's a nice Yeti cooler out there.
SPEAKER_01There's a six golf bags. And yeah, yeah.
MattThere's a signed Derek Carr football that and he didn't even come up and shake our hands.
DanNo.
unknownThere we go. All right.
DanAgain, we only got handshakes afterwards because we just happened to be near him when he finished.
MattYeah.
DanJeremy got us autograph, though.
JeremyI think though he signed a card and Zayn's jersey.
DanThere you go.
JeremyYeah. And the little phone holder we got. That's right. For the golf cart where you'd little clamp your phone into the that's right. That was the giveaway.
MattI don't remember that.
JeremyWith his church name printed on it. That was a rough one. That was a rough one.
DanOh very um. That was the first time you played Southern Highlands, though, Joe?
SPEAKER_04No, no, I think I played it before that. Yeah, played it once before that. I think it was Jeremy's first time.
DanYeah, that was your first time, Jay?
unknownYeah.
MattI've I had played it years before that.
DanHey, and just so you guys know, that uh special Olympic Scout Tournament at uh the Olympic Club is coming up in September. I just saw the thing for it. There's so many things. September 2026. Uh I think it's 500 ahead.
SPEAKER_04Well, I was trying to go to um I was trying to go to Cam's thing this year, but I don't think I'm gonna be able to do that because it's the end of I think it's the end of September or end of August, but we got something going on.
MattSo this is what this is what Mike said to me. Big Cedar wants me to have wants me out for a sponsored trip for four three nights, experience, the resort, everything free. Want to bring you guys, but only three can come. I said Joe has a shortest draw because he has kid obligations. He goes, Oh, that's true. Plus he flaked out on Cascada, so he's on my list.
SPEAKER_04Oh I'll never forgive any of you guys. I'm never gonna forgive anybody.
DanHey, now you know how I felt last year at this time. I know. I know you're all over here frolicking around Nebraska playing all these sick courses. I'm over here for fucking twigling my phone.
JeremyHey, that's why I entered and won because I wanted to take you so bad.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, you're gonna take me the year after, you're gonna take me the year after.
MattUh I said honestly, like August or September, could you guys swing it? And I said 98% yes. He goes, 2%'s a lot of doubt for a free trip to Big Cedar.
SPEAKER_04I'm 100% in. I said I I've been wanting to do Big Cedar. I think we should all take our fans to Big Cedar and just go hang out for like a week or two.
MattMy only holdups are August 8th and September 19th for VG events, and the wife's out of town August 12th through 15th. But that's it for me. As a Dan will be in 100% and solid for that one.
SPEAKER_04Uh no, I think I I've been saying it forever. Like, we should all just whoever who like 12 of us, whoever just go to Big Cedar. Exactly. I think that'd be a great spot for everybody.
MattHe said, actually, I have two trips this fall and want to get you guys on one. Can you guess the other? And I said, uh stream song. He goes, No, Dismal. You ask you asked the boys Big Cedar or Dismal, and I exclamation points dismal. He goes, I think you're gonna do the response. Dismal and gray ball? Yeah.
DanSo I would rather do Dismal and Gray Bull only because I can go to we can go to fucking the other one anytime. Dismal and gray ball or touch.
MattThat's what I told him 100%.
SPEAKER_04So even though Dismal now has opened up for uh staying place that cabins now, but could he if can he get three more spots even if he paid like half of it, everybody splits it?
MattI don't know. But Dismal hit we should be able to all go to Dismal because he's he said that yeah, because it's why it's open, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Open.
DanYeah, I mean, I'd rather do one where we can all go.
MattYeah, 100%, 100%.
DanI would hate for one.
SPEAKER_04No, I mean the thing is is like, yeah, kids, but if it's something special, Katie will make it, yeah, make it.
MattYeah, no, and I know Big Cedar, we you talked about doing everybody going to that, so I think that would be so much fun.
DanThat'd be a great trip, dude. If we can get a group like we did at Bannon to go there, just fuck around on the cliffs and do all that shit that's over there. Well, just like Jeremy bringing Joy and the Z's, and then yeah, absolutely, you know, Erica's.
SPEAKER_04I'm just saying Joy and the Z's.
JeremyThat would be so fun.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and and just go for like 10 days or seven days, and like whoever can play that day if you have something booked with the fan, like you know what I mean? Like everybody be there, making it invention to everybody. I think that
AI Fixes The Iron Left Miss
SPEAKER_04would be dope.
MattAll right, that would be so uh how much information did I give you guys on the irons? What did I tell you? Did I tell you anything?
SPEAKER_04I know I talked to Jeremy a little bit about it on yeah, you were talking to Chat GPT, and yeah, they told you all what you gotta do.
MattI um been struggling with the irons, just hitting this left shot, just left, left, left, left, left, and it's really been annoying me. And so I went out back on Thursday and hit 40 balls with my seven iron on the quad, got all the data, got all the averages from everything, and I plugged in the iron head that I'm playing, the length of the club, the swing weight, um, the the shaft, the shaft flex, the shaft weight, uh, put in all my numbers, you know, distance, carry, spin, all that, and said, um, the issue that I'm having is my face is shut five degrees on average, and impact, and I have this left pull. And it started breaking down, and it was saying that you know, the I'm playing a 90 gram stiff flex shaft, and the UST Dart V shaft is a very aggressive from the top shaft for somebody that yanks down on it hard. You guys know me, that ain't me. Um, I was trying to find something in that 90, 90 to 100 weight, and I found I have forgot, I forgot I had those in there, so I that's why I put them in. And they feel they feel fantastic, but what Chat GBT was saying, or not ChatGBT, I'm sorry, Google Gemini, was saying is with that shaft profile and that weight, me not having an aggressive swing, your mind takes over and says that face is staying wide open because it's not coming down, and so you have to flip it to shut it in order to make good contact. Um, so it suggested uh going based on my club head speed, which is about 78 to 79 on average with my seven iron, that uh trying a lighter regular flex shaft is is what it recommended. And you know, I went down, I mean it was like I was telling Jeremy, I said I had a two-hour conversation with the computer. And um so I at at Rio, which as much as I love that place, the range balls there are terrible.
SPEAKER_04It's also very funny that you had a two-hour conversation with the computer.
MattOh, it it was I was sitting there going, oh well what a bit you ever say like show me your tits randomly.
DanHey, hey Google Gemini, show me those tippies. Yeah. Binary booties.
MattUh so uh at Rio, I put together um the AI one the AI 150 because it's not as hot as the AI 200. It's still a hot face. Jeremy's dead. I'm sorry. I'm trying to have a serious conversation, you guys.
SPEAKER_04Uh so I put it in the binary code. It was the binary code. Sorry.
MattBinary code best. I prefer binary code loops. That's a shirt coming. Yeah. Uh so I put the AI 150 head. It's it's not as hot as the 200. It's it's a forged head, it has a little bit more uh workability. Um, it's not as forgiving as the AI 200. So I tried that head um to try and get the speed down off the face a little bit. Uh, and I put in the MMT 70 gram regular flex. And the MMT is um Mitsubishi's uh composite steel blanded shaft, kind of like a steel fiber. And uh I hit it and it was okay. I I it felt good. I hit a little bit better. Then I put the recoil 70R in and it was like ruler straight, ruler straight, dead on target, boom, boom, boom, boom. And June was like, mmm, he goes, hit the MMT again. I put the MMT in, like out of 10 shots, maybe six of them, five of them went straight. The other ones, one faded, come and then left, left. Put the recoil back in, dead straight, dead straight, dead straight. I'm like, and so I was mad because you can't you can't use the quad there because the golf balls are so bad. So I reached in my bag and found a couple of balls that you know were marked up and uh put on a quad and hit two balls. Donations, it blew me away, just like absolutely blew me away. The numbers were freaking spot on. I it carried 168, which is huge for me with a seven iron, and it didn't even feel like I was swinging hard.
DanIs that left-handed? No, yeah.
MattSo I was like uh texted Sidon. I'm like, he's like, so be here before your trip. Yes, nice kind of.
SPEAKER_04I'm I'm curious, as a master fitter, that you are, you're a master fitter.
MattWhy was I playing the wrong shit? Yeah, yeah, because I'm well, you're a master fitter, but I know we practice with our stuff a lot, but we don't practice or test a lot. Like the new driver will come out, we'll do that. But mainly if we're hitting balls when we don't have fittings, we're working on our stuff, you know, and so I the wrong stuff. Well, yeah, it was the wrong stuff a hundred percent. Uh it it's all on me. I'm not blaming anybody but me. It's 100% my fault.
SPEAKER_04You're the master fitter.
MattI was playing the 70 gram stiff and the the recoils. I was playing those, and my dispersion was not as good as with the 90 gram uh stiffs, the the UST darts. Um, I I fucked up because I didn't realize that that profile was a low, low profile, which that's why I pulled the LA golf shafts because they were a low, low profile. You know, I need spin and I need launch. So the the recoil HTCs is what I played, but they were stiff, and that is one of the reasons why that my dispersion was a little squirrel screw with them because it was it's a wrong flex, wrong flex.
JeremySo how do you feel about AI taking your job?
SPEAKER_04Okay, what time is it, y'all? It's nine. It's nine?
JeremyYeah.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I'll be right back.
JeremyOkay, how do you how do you feel about AI um not taking your job but enhancing your job?
MattIt it was spot the fuck on. I mean, it was dead nuts on, which I don't know if that's gonna be the case with every situation. I would love to compile some data from some other players and plug it in and see if what I fit them to is what it recommends just to see. You know, and of course, you know, the a couple of the shafts that recommended we don't offer, so I couldn't try them. So I had to kind of go, okay, well, let me look at that profile, let me find that profile and what we have and see. Um, but it was interesting. I mean, it was and it it brought in some things that totally made sense. Like Dan said right away, you're flipping, you know, because that when you have a shaft that is designed to work like this, and I'm doing this, it's not being activated the way it's supposed to be, you know. And so how do you correct that? Well, your body corrects it, you know. Your body goes, hey, your face is wide the fuck open. If we don't, if we don't flip this bitch around, you're not gonna hit the golf ball, you know, and that happens, you know, in nanoseconds. And that's one of the things I remember Stephen Nolan telling me, you know, your brain will correct your body so fast you don't even know what's happening, you know, because your brain knows you're gonna miss the golf ball if we continue this, so let's fix it. And it does that so fucking fast. Yeah, you know. So I'm uh I took a couple videos with the MMT shaft, and I mean my path and everything was really, really good. Um, so I'm we're we're in mesquite on Thursday, so I'm gonna hit some more shots with it on Thursday. And I took it out on the course with us when we played, and uh, I only got to hit it twice because you know, in the environment you don't have that shot every time you're playing, and both times it was like damn near perfect. Like the perfectly executed golf swing for me, you know. Just it was it was impressive. It was impressive. So we'll see. We'll see.
SPEAKER_07Oh yeah.
MattI'm I haven't been this excited for it in a while. And like Joe was saying, I how the fuck was I playing the wrong shit? Playing the wrong shit because I stupidly didn't research those shafts and just knew that I had played them before and I liked them, so let's try them. You know, would have saved myself some heartache had I, you know, just done your due diligence. Done my due diligence, but you know, when you got a a build shop in your garage and you have shafts laying there and you you you know, I I built the seven iron in the max forge or the X Forged Max Head, and you know it that had more loft, and it's a less forgiving club, and my dispersion was better, my numbers were better. I'm like, okay, this is this is the right one. Um but yeah, no, it wasn't so hopefully they get here and I get to play them in Nebraska.
JeremyIs it possible to get irons that are raw or that a tour thing only?
MattYeah, that's tour only. You they don't they don't offer raw iron heads. We can make them raw, yeah.
DanJust got a little nickel stripper and yeah, and uh some vinegar and stuff, and then they'll get raw.
MattNickel stripper sounds like something you see on Boulder Highway.
DanDefinitely, definitely something you see there.
MattUh so um yeah, we'll see. We'll we'll see. I'm excited, but I got the the six through A wedge, and then I got some new wedges coming too because I played the uh 52 and 56 and the SP and the SP Plus. That SP plus Z grind is fucking special. It is special, so I have three new wedges coming too because my gapping changed. And then you have your five hybrid, seven wood, three wood driver. No, I pulled the three wood, so because I needed because I uh I was playing pitching wedge and then I played 50, 54, 58. Oh so the the A wedge is actually 49, but I'm probably gonna I I might keep it there. Um so I went 52 56 60. Um and by adding the six I didn't want I didn't want my 56 to be my highest lofted wedge because I'm used to a 58. Um, so I'm like, uh, you know, so I added the 60 and then the three would I just I have not been hitting good. And the five would when I made good contact with five wood. Yeah, I I hit that thing just as far as I hit the three wood. So seven wood, right? Yeah, yeah. Seven wood's not good. And then the hybrid. And then the hybrid. But if I continue if if the six iron in the AI 150 with that shaft gets me the numbers that I I'm comfortable hitting with, I may put the five iron back in and pull that hybrid. Because that hybrid is hit and miss for me. Sometimes it's fucking fantastic, and sometimes I can't keep it on the golf course. Game makeover. The only thing that's been the same for a while is the golf ball. Which these these came out really good. I I never seen one of these up close. That's the the major major. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty good. They did a pretty good job with those.
MattYeah.
SPEAKER_02Hard to get. Hard to get.
MattOh. What are we at? We're at 40 minutes. Is Joe coming back, you think?
DanHe's probably just putting his kids down.
MattDan,
Wild Horse Decisions And Scorecard Pain
Mattdid you play golf at all this past week at all?
DanYeah. No.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_07No?
DanI don't think so. Can't remember. I'm trying to remember. It's been such a blur. The last time I played was it last Monday?
JeremyOh, is that when you hit the T the new tie list? Yeah. You were out there Monday?
DanUh-huh. I need to go try it. Yeah, I hit the new tie list. Try it.
MattWhat did you think?
DanI didn't I didn't um I would like to hit it again. I wasn't uh the the guy out there fitting. He was a little bit of a a rushy Is it rocking?
MattPushy.
DanYes. That's the guy.
MattWhere was it at?
DanUh out at Pai U. And uh yeah, I didn't like his attitude. Um he was just grabbing the club right out of my hand and shit without like I took like two swings and he'd grab it and he goes, nope, nope, here, let me have this, take it back. Like I'm like, you know, part of me was like, hold on a minute, brother. I want to fucking hit this thing. You know, let me put some swings into it here before you judge me after two swings. But um, it felt okay. Um, I'd like to say I definitely need to definitely not hit it again, but have you hit the new one, Jeremy? Nothing spectacular right off the bat.
JeremyYeah, I haven't I haven't really hit the GT either. So I don't really know.
SPEAKER_00You just stick with your calloway. You just stick with your calloway.
DanYeah, right now, I mean, the elite feels good. I square it up and hit it good, it feels good. So right now, the elite, I'm sticking with the elite for now.
JeremyYeah, I think so. I did hit a 400-yard drive on at Wild Horse. That's ground game, right? That was like, yeah, for sure, at least 70 yards of ground.
MattBut you know, that's Trey was in the same spot. Mm-hmm.
JeremyYou know, on that what hole is that? That short par five.
MattFive, five, the downhill short par five.
JeremyLike 80 yards in, and I left it short of the green.
MattYeah, it's not as bad as missing a one-foot putt. That's true. That was yeah, it was so bad. I did that before. I did it on back-to-back holes. One was for double and one was for birdie, and I missed them both. Oh shit.
DanYeah.
SPEAKER_04I I played Wild Horse so differently than I would typically play it. It was so it was different. Like I was I was like one over through six or something.
MattYeah, I saw you were playing well.
SPEAKER_04I was playing really well. Playing really well. I like even on one, I mean, we started on eighteen, I had a birdie look at it, and number one, I was like, I'm just gonna hit an eight iron out there. Typically I'd go for the green, but you know. I don't know what happened, but I mean, even like four three, I had a four iron out there, or five iron. I only took like I only hit like four drivers.
MattYeah, you don't need to.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
MattI hit him just because you love it. I'm not long. Yeah. And I hit my driver better than my five would off the tee. So No, I I parred one, I parred two, then I doubled three because I made a bone-headed club pull. Uh then I birdied four. And I made bogey on five from behind a tree off the tee. So I was pretty happy about that. Then I parred uh six. I parred seven, I parred eight, and bogeyed nine. So I was I was three over on the front. And then that triple on ten just oh god, that was so devastating. I had like four doubles, five doubles. You know, you get that the water's been running too long in one spot and it gets that rut. It was just like it was like that, but it then it had been filled in a little bit, so it it wasn't like deep, but it was soft and deep. No way to get a club on it, and I tried.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04Uh what sucks is I was like really in like my wedges, like I was like trying not to be 50 yards, and I ended up being 50 yards just because of the rollout, you know? Like every time I was 50 yards out, just trash. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
JeremyYeah, that was playing 315. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
JeremyThis five wind, but still.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Nuts, nuts.
MattIt was a good time though.
SPEAKER_04Had fun.
MattSo this is what the after shows are about. Um, ideally for not all the after shows, but we also want to have some episodes where we have special guests on just for our premium subscribers or our members.
SPEAKER_04We never even talked about what's happening at Pebble, too.
MattNo, I'm still waiting to hear from Scotty
Pebble Caddies And Labor Law Fallout
MattD. I he's like I said, have you texted him at all, Joe?
SPEAKER_04No, I haven't texted.
JeremySo, did you guys hear what's happening? So it's the California law about contractors. Oh, Pebble Beach has been avoiding it for years, and now they have to to avoid them becoming unionized, they have to pay them as employees, hourly employees. And so now they're gonna be the idiotic.
SPEAKER_04My buddy Jake over there.
JeremyYeah, yeah. So now they have to pay him hourly and they have to track hours, and so now before it was like they get paid a flat 200 bucks per bag or something. Now they're paying, they're being paid per hour. Yeah, and it's a lot less money. So yeah, he said he said it's not in their favor for sure.
MattNo, so good old California.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, dude. I mean, I don't even it's terrible. And and they're changing the game of the caddy, too, which is like super established in the got game of golf. Like, I mean it's tough.
MattBut you know, it's is it it's not pebble though. I mean, they're blame, those guys are making it sound like pebble is doing it, it's corporate greed.
SPEAKER_04It's corporate, it's corporations, yeah. 100% corporations, yeah.
MattTrune owns I can't remember.
SPEAKER_04But Pebble. I mean, corporate owns Pebble.
MattIf it's a state law, it's I don't think Pebble's in favor of it.
JeremyThey're like I said they're I think it's caddy master. Trune owns caddy master, and they're the ones that are the that have to make this change. It's not pebble, it's caddy master. Yeah, and they do a bunch of courses. I think Cascada is the same, but I obviously the laws here are different, different, yeah. Yeah, but they've been avoiding it for years, apparently.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, my well, my buddy, I sent you guys the the quote that he sent me. He said, like the CEO and somebody else was trying to strong arm them this morning, trying to be like, don't need so.
MattI mean, we got of course, of course, of course. When I worked at Chapman, they had meetings, they're like, if we find out you talk to a union rep, I will fire you. You know, it was it wasn't being strong armed, but they basically told us, and we've been fired.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I don't know. If you're a caddy out at Pebble, film all your shit, record all your notes. I mean, shout out the caddies.
MattI mean, they're gonna, I mean, it sucks that I I I'm glad Jeremy brought in that perspective because I hadn't heard that. I I just thought it was you know, the way they made it sound is that like Pebble's trying to, you know, force them to do something they don't want to do, and it's not somebody's forcing Pebble to do it.
SPEAKER_04Not yeah, it's local laws, local laws.
MattYeah, so that that makes me feel a little bit better about Pebble that it's not like something that they're implementing because they want but also like they don't need to have caddies either.
SPEAKER_04They could lose their job, they don't need to have caddies. You can go play off course without a caddy, so it's like the caddies might lose out.
MattOh, a hundred percent.
SPEAKER_04But you won't have to have a caddy at Pasa Tiempo.
MattWell, think about it too. Back in the day, the a caddy job was not a career, though. I mean, no, it's hard, absolutely hard work, but those guys can make really good money, you know. You get a you know, three, four loops a week, double bagging and stuff like that. I mean, you can you can make some good cash and you get perks, but now they're gonna turn it into the after-school job for a kid because it's a minimum wage job and and they're happy to be out there on the golf course, you know. So yeah, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, that's wild.
MattIt sucks for those guys because you know they've been depending on that for a real.
SPEAKER_04Well, those good guys are gonna leave to somewhere somewhere else. Oh, yeah, they're gonna go to a resort. Go play Pebble, and then you're just getting some kid from high school.
MattAnd they're gonna see a lot of those guys go back up north. Yeah. Now places like you know, uh Missouri blowing up and Wisconsin and Bandon and Florida now with all these Pinehurst, they're gonna find all these guys leaving. Yeah.
SPEAKER_04And then and then the guests are gonna be left with a subpar caddy.
MattYeah.
SPEAKER_04That doesn't know what they're talking about.
MattAnd have a shitty experience. Yeah. But I mean, to be fair, you can have a shitty experience with a caddy too. We've all had a bad caddy.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely, yeah. 100% for sure.
MattDan, have you had a bad caddy?
DanYeah, maybe once or twice. I can't recall. Nothing stands out. Jeremy.
MattFirst time I just ignore him.
JeremyI just ignore the reads and stuff if I don't agree.
MattTerrible caddy at Cascada one time.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, the the one the I don't typically like to take caddies. I like to figure out on my own. Um, I'm the golf course is the Rubik's Cube. I'm the player, you know what I mean? Yeah.
MattSo you know what I like about the caddy experience is when I don't like one caddy for a group of four. Yeah. Um, because it's it one, that that guy's fucking all over the place. I feel bad for him running all over the place trying to rake bunkers, trying to re putts for four people. I like if you have your caddy, you have and he is your caddy and he only works with you, or she, sorry. Um, I think that is a great experience. Yeah. Um but when you have one guy for four people, it's like you don't even have a caddy, and then they want you to tip them like you were the only person they were taken care of.
SPEAKER_04I mean, I will say we're not necessarily the demographic for caddies at a golf course we've never seen. So but caddies are invaluable. Like a lot of people care about like what they do on the golf course, and like most I mean, every everyone I've come across at Bandon except for one person, solid, right? And I mean they're working, right? They're working hard, they're walking with you. So it's not it's a tough situation. Yeah, it's not an easy job. It's definitely not an easy job.
MattIf you're good at it, yeah, you know, you you bring joy to a lot of people.
SPEAKER_04Absolutely, and you can make their day, you know, and that's fulfilling as well as a caddy.
JeremySo like damn, that bears best. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's hilarious.
SPEAKER_04Okay, I think I think a caddy's super uh uh valuable when they get to spend time with you, like over the course of like Bandon, like when you play with them for like four days, playing all the courses, they learn your game. That's super valuable. So maybe, maybe uh Pebbles just trying to be like, hey, you're here, you're a legendary spot, deal with it, you know, and that's kind of that's kind of not very customer service service oriented. So I don't know. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
MattYeah.
Premium After Shows And Sign-Off
MattAll right.
SPEAKER_00This has been the CDB After Show.
MattUh thanks everybody. Uh, this is what we do on the after shows. Um, before Joe interrupted me about the caddies, uh, I was saying that we're in Nebraska, guys. We're in Nebraska right now. Right now, we're playing Landman. Just think about that. As you're listening to this, we're playing Landman. Uh, I do with us. We want to have some special guests on just for our members. Uh, as that grows, we'll start doing that. We don't want to bring somebody on for three listeners. So um, we want to share the experience, but we want to grow our fan base with that. Uh, so as this grows and gets bigger, better things will happen. I promise you. Just stick it out with us. Thank you so much for being here. Joe, you want to wrap up the the after show?
SPEAKER_04Yeah, I mean, this is episode 380, actually.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_04So you got a little you got a little uh tune in to what we do after the show. Thank y'all for being here. Thank you for helping us grow. And uh, you know, we're here every single Tuesday unless we're on a golf trip. So, mad love. Much appreciated. Until next week, you're gonna get caught up on all the Nebraska golf trip shit. Until then, we look at you later. That's how we do it, right?
