Like the I I feel like lately they've struggled with the range, like it's just not been in good shape. The grass has been long, and but man, they had the wolf range like cut down super tight on the the hitting areas, and really it was so good. All right, looking good.

When were we there? Like, we were there for a VGN tournament. What was that like a month ago, month and a half ago? Yeah, two months ago, something like that. It's been a while. I gotta get back out there. That place is just yeah, there's nothing better.

No, there's not public-wise, public-wise, and especially the afternoon, like golden hour rounds that me and Dan played. It's you just see that course different, like the light hits that place different, and it looks amazing. I I'm pretty sure I'm going to try and get their pass next year.

Oh, really? Or it's worth the drive. It's 100% worth the drive. The um you've I know you guys have all played with Boyd, right? Oh, yeah. That has he ever told you about the lady on top of the mountain? Yeah, I can't unsee that, and it's just no one of the most special places in Vegas, and I mean it's it's a reason that why why we always uh recommend it to everybody that's coming to town because it is the best. It is that it is.

Coyote Springs New Course Rumors

I heard something who was telling me actually, it was it was a local doctor that go to was telling me that Coyote Springs, there's been a lot of development going on with Coyote Coyote Springs about a lot of what a lot of development. Oh, development, like they're they're gonna be building another course, like that's almost a sure thing.

Yeah, we heard that what was that? We heard that like two years ago because the water rights were the issue, and yep.

And they when we were out there, there was grass. I don't know if they were testing out grass or something on that area when you're driving to the range on the right side after you leave the pubhouse. Bunch of grass they were putting in. Maybe they're testing some stuff out, but he said he heard he died Jack Nicholas collab course over on that side.

Yep. Wonder if they would ever pull in another designer, another architect.

You know, a lot of a lot of course architects don't want to touch the desert. Like, I mean, like Doke wants like specific places nowadays. I mean, Cork Crenshaw, they all want like these special pieces of land. It is a special piece of land, obviously. Look at Coyote Springs with what Jack did out there, but and with the ravines and like the the waterway cutouts that was built, like they can make something super dope out there. I would love, I mean, I would love a Pete Dyed Jack Nicholas original design collab course, but I would love to see someone like Doak or McClay Kidd or Core Crenshaw, which I don't core crenshaw. Well, they did the talking stick, but even like Kyle Franz. I mean, anybody like that is doing the modern style architecture build out there, yeah.

One thing that missing in Las Vegas Coyote Springs, I would say, is a fairly natural course, like there's some stuff like when they were growing out the grass around the bunkers, it looked incredible. I think that was perfect. Yeah, it's rusty cut it down. Yeah, it's been it's right very rustic, but having something that's like more natural feel, I don't know what that would look like in the desert because you still have there's a lot of work, a lot more work. Yeah, you gotta move dirt, you gotta move dirt.

But I mean, some of the like some of those the you know, like the carries, and then uh you know, over that ravine, like you see it all the time when you drive up to the range of coyote springs, like you can see the stakes. I'm assuming that was nine or eighteen, and like UTF UT off high, and then there's an area for water, and there's kind of like a peninsula green, like, dude, there's so much, and I haven't even seen way I haven't seen past that, but you can see stakes for you know thousands of yards, and I'm sure I I'm sure that with Pete Dye and Jack Nicholas, if they're gonna do a collab out there, there's there's a routing out there that makes sense, and you know, with the new age, maybe there's a way to route it even doper. But I'm excited to have a new golf course out there because Coyote Springs is obviously one of our favorites.

I wouldn't doubt if there's already a course design there, they just couldn't put it on the ground because because of the water issues.

Well, when you used to go in the clubhouse in the back, they had that craps table with the it looked like a craps table, and it had the other course, the model on there, yeah. Yeah, they s they have since removed that also. Yeah, it's not there no more. Wonder where that went. Sell that on whatnot. No, I'd keep that, I'd keep that for sure all day. Golf card hang it on the wall. Yeah, that'd be sick to have. I'm curious what they did with that. Because it was there, probably in a shed. But yeah, that's gonna that's gonna be that's gonna be sick. That would be huge. Dude, I mean if they have two courses and they build like a little, you know, some cabins or something, but make a putting course, make a short course, dude. That place is a destination. It's that good.

Yeah, that's well, that's what he was saying. Like it they want to turn it into like that. Was the original plan was the community with several golf courses and all that, but now what he was saying is they want to make it a destination, they want it to be like abandoned dunes level place where you just go, you're not in the Vegas, you're there the whole time, you play golf, and then you well, it's I mean, it's it's that good.

It's they could do that out there if somebody actually puts the money into it. I heard that there was like a dude that um who owns it, he owns like I don't know, 20 of downtown LA and real estate, and that's the guy that um put the money into it. So he's got a shit ton of money. What up, Chewy? What's Chewy now? So let's go. But yeah, dude, I it I mean, that's another one. Like we were just talking about Piute. Pieute is gonna add another course, we've heard as well. And they they should do cabins in a short course or a putting course, and they'd have people out there all day, but um, that's another one that we always recommend to people. I mean, imagine Boulder Creek. Imagine there's land out at Boulder Creek, too. It's probably BLM or something like that. But imagine they add another another nine or another 18 and put some cabins out there in a short course.

Yeah, no. Well, that supposedly from what I've heard is the tribe got really heavily into the uh Mary G Wana uh business and they didn't stopped caring about golf. So but if I mean golf has exploded since since then, so but uh the other courses supposedly come out on the other side of the 15, but they really could make that place like a destination if they wanted to. They got the money.

Yes, they could, and they already have three courses there.

Yeah, and they're all sick and always pristine. But yeah, that's good news about Coyote Spring, because I haven't I mean what the I don't even know the last course that opened in Vegas was it summit, yeah, yeah, Summit. Summit, which was what, like 2012, 13, 14? I think I can't remember.

It's more recent than that, but um yeah, that's the last one I could think of. Well, you gotta pay your water reclamation bills, unless you want to call a remodel of Bears Best a new one.

Yeah, no, I I wouldn't do you consider a remodel a new one. No, yeah, me neither. No, gotta break ground, bring out the yeah, I agree.

I am curious what that's gonna be like though. Speaking of breaking ground and moving ground, Jeremy, you just were there at uh Spanish uh oh yeah, at uh Spanish Bay, Spanish Bay, yeah. You saw some of the uh did you go full tour? You full toured it or what?

Spanish Bay Remodel & Monterey Peninsula

No, we drove we drove very slowly or what? No, we drove very slowly around 17 mile drive, and part of it, as you know, in there, it goes right through several of those courses, and one of those is links to Spanish Bay, and it was all dirt, like they had the bunkers, which may have been original, but they almost looked like new bunkers, like they had just built them, placed them, but it was all dirt, like they were still forming fairways and greens and stuff on both sides of the road. Some of the holes look like they were done, ones were close to the ocean. They either didn't touch them or they were already finished. I mean, they look like they had been modified, but I think they were there.

I think that it's a complete remodel. Like, there might have been some existing bunkers there that they kept, but like that wasn't like the plan was just to keep it. I've heard like I've seen a couple videos too where they've added more bunkers and uh and deleted one here or there to kind of reshape the hole. So I don't know. We'll see what happens.

Are they going if I've watched some videos too, but I forget. But are they like trying to bring it back to the original how it was designed, or is like Gil Hans actually like redoing it for today's play?

I think he's redo like just just rerouting it because um according to one video I saw, there was a section off of 14 green that is now gonna be part of the new, or excuse me, a 13 or yeah, 14 green that is gonna be part of the new 15 T-box. Like you're gonna hit over what the 14th green was. Oh, yeah, I think I did I did hear that. Yeah, something like that. So I think it's just a complete remodel of golf course in the space given. It just kind of gave them the freedom to do whatever.

Interesting. I mean Monterey Peninsula, that's gonna be uh I I guarantee you that place is gonna it's gonna be sick. Gil Hance can do things.

Yeah, he's gonna make that course really good.

It looks that that course in particular, like I a lot of people that go there and play say that's their favorite course. That's the one I want the most, of course. Pebble and spyglass and poppy and all those, but that one is the most intriguing to me.

Oh, where that course, where that course sits, you can see like almost no matter what hole you're on, you can see the ocean from, you know, because there wasn't a whole lot of bushes or shrubs or anything like that to get in your way or trees. Yeah, like the course kind of sat on a slope, and you can almost from every hole you can catch the ocean. Yeah, it's a it's Lynx land for sure. Yeah, it's on the bay. Definitely got some, definitely gonna have some pretty views when it's all said and done.

Yes, yeah, I played it. Uh that one and Poppy Hills are the only two I've played in that area, and on spyglass too.

Yeah, I would I would I would have loved to play it before and after. So if you when you make it back up, that's gonna be a treat.

I know, especially the poppy hills, too, because I haven't played Poppy since the remodel either. So I need to play Poppy Hills very bad.

It has the most ocean views of any course there, I think. That one's easier to get on for sure, cheaper. I mean, it was I looked for tea times on Pacific Grove, I looked for tea times on Poppy Hills, and it I think I could have done it, but like I don't even know if the tea times for 350 bucks I would have been able to finish 18 holes. Uh I was trying to figure out where I was gonna take that in. It was like four o'clock. Yeah, so I didn't know if I wanted to do that, plus rather wait and go out for a trip, you know.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, especially if when you're on a trip with your family, you want to you want to get out there early, knock it out, and then you can have the day. Yeah, there was no early at least. Yeah, you should have hit up uh Monterey Golf guy. Shout out Monterey Golf guy, yeah. And there's even more shit that's tucked in in into the fucking mountains and shit. There's there's a whole lot of shit up there, dude. Carmel Valley Ranch, stacked, so much stacked golf up there in the Monterey Peninsula. Um, but you did me and Dan have played Pasa Tiempo, and you you touched, you touched, you dipped your toes and touched grass on a hollowed ground.

Yep, yep, and it's like a race too. Like who can get down the fastest? And uh, as soon as we left, I'm like, okay, we're stopping at Pasatampo. I didn't know what to expect. Like, I've seen pictures, but oh, what a great place! I was like so anxious about it because it's like the course that I want to play the most, probably of any right now. And as soon as you pull in, it's just as different, it's so different. Like you pull in and you just immediately see the sign with the hole in the background, elevated T box, elevated green, and it is in absolutely perfection like conditions. It was so crazy. And I went up to the clubhouse, watched some guys tee off on probably one. I think they were playing straight away, straight one downhill, straight downhill. Yeah, took a picture of the statue with the flag in the background, bought a t-shirt, even though I haven't played there. I I was a sucker. I had to do it.

10's a great hair's awesome for, and you didn't even see the the the dip on the side with the bunkers, and yeah, nope. I gotta get back. I I played it on punched greens, so I gotta get back there. You played it once. I've only played it once, yeah. So we went up there too. Um me and like my mom and my uncle and everybody when my grandma passed away. She was from Santa Cruz, or it was her favorite place, I can't remember, but we went up there to spread her ashes, and my mom like took my she was like, Oh, this is illegal, but hey, we're doing it, and she's like wiping it off the side of her body. Um, so we were all up there, but I played Pasa Tianpa with my cousin Josh, who listens all the time. Shout out the mailman out there in the heat, go nights go. Um, but we played it, and uh, that was early in my golf journey too. Um, but it was punched greens, which is fine.

And I probably didn't I probably didn't even deserve to play that place at that moment in playing golf, and you know, yeah, I think that probably had an impact on what you think about the game now, and how you're the direction you've gone in like appreciating course design and all that stuff probably had a part of that.

I will tell you, that is the best back nine I've ever played to this day. It's my favorite. If there was a back nine I could play, it is Pazatiampa back nine all day. Hard dark older banded. It's that back nine is fucking just and the front nine's not no joke either, you know.

But um, yeah, no place is the front nine is like the front nine is like a little bit of an ass kicker, and then the back nine's like, okay, take a break and enjoy this. Yeah, enjoy this one.

Yeah, and it ends in a par three, which is absolutely you know, you don't see that very often, and a great par three at that. Oh, yeah, just some little club at sunrise. How far is that?

Is it like 160, 180? No, I can't remember. Yeah, I think it's that green that green will kick your ass, though. Oh, that green will green was treacherous. Yeah, and one of the guys I was watching, he pulled his t-shot left. He was almost in the bushes. Just an amazing flop shot, and it's just like the way it just broke down, it broke like 20 feet right down the hill, just kept trickling, almost made it.

16 is the green, right? All of those greens are like that. Yeah, green green. The the the the best screen I've ever seen ever is six trip bunkers looked amazing, it's kind of like 18 tiers to it, dude.

So did they redo greens just the greens, or did they redo bunkers and everything?

Uh he so what they did is if you're familiar, like so over time, you know, sediment builds up on the green and you know, like out of the bunkers, and over time it builds up and it changes the formation of the green. So what um fuck, what is his name? I can't pull it, but he you know, him and Dok worked on so many things. If if we were fried egg, I'd pull that name out real quick, but we're not fried egg. Um Jim Urbina, yeah. Jim Urbina, shout out Urbina. Uh they they they went down and found the original like layer.

you know put his house there on what is that six six seven eight nine yeah six so his house is there there's a plaque there I mean it's it's a special special place I want to play I that's a course I you know I can play every day I can play that every day it's an expensive daily player but you play it every day for sure but what also is interesting is their membership right like you there's a there's a did you hear about that you have to purchase stock in the company and I don't know how it all works but whatever company or something owns Pasa Tampa you have to purchase stock to even have the opportunity to be a member and it's some kind of crazy tech for from what I remember one of the because I played with a member he told me that he's like you gotta buy stock in the company and then you have the opportunity to be a member and you know whatever it is and he also told me it takes 32 years to learn those greens wow and now they've changed now yeah no they're different another third spears yeah yeah it was just incredible man I mean that whole area is just sorry it says right here stat guy stat guy Dan yeah memberships require purchasing a privately held share of stock from an existing owner currently around 200 000 to 225000 a one-time capital fee of 27500 and monthly dues of about 620 for unlimited single play 620 unlimited play I mean if you spend your money members pay a reduced rate for of uh for their guests for 90 dollars I think it was when the tea times I was looking at were like 475 or something yeah I think I paid 250 and it was half price because the punch greens it says right here shout out them doing half price for punch greens yeah yeah seriously it says right here if you want to test out the course before buying a share the club offers a limited one year trial membership program lets you pay your annual dues up front plus a trial fee to enjoy all the perks of a shareholder if you decide to buy a share during your trial year the club will credit portion of your trial fees towards your new membership fee interesting so I mean I could play there all I could play there every day.

Yeah it's it's pretty and I think that's why like even that member when he told me it takes you 32 years to learn these greens that's one reason because but it's like everything there's the bay down there shout out Santa Cruz you know a great ice cream shop down the road as well um but no that place is uh that's hollowed ground which it's obviously awesome to step foot on that place yes it is I mean the driving rings kind of sucks because you gotta go down one and then hit up but you know yeah they need to flip that around for some reason I don't know why I don't know why it's I don't know why it's yeah but but one thing when I because I was I think I played in um probably 2019 and um in California like paying cart fees it's a thing in California and it's not a thing in Vegas which is absolutely insane like the cart fees like even you can go play Pebble too and then there's a cart fee attached across the TM but wherever you go in California Tori there's a cart fee I don't understand that shit that's how Utah is too you just on a cart you pay 25 bucks whatever it is is it just that way in Vegas because it's it's just Vegas I think Phoenix is similar here I think it's just wrapped into the because they don't want you to die they don't want people walking and slowing everything down because I mean here it's like the holes are spaced out it'd be a lot of courses would be a tougher walk yeah yeah revere would be an insane walk those cart fees aren't cheap either I think 25 bucks not pet not 25 bucks yeah it's like 80 bucks a pet one and also if you're dots per person it's you you don't get your own cart either which is absolutely crazy we can't split the cart fee and where there's two seats we can't split it it's 80 bucks 40 each makes sense to me right but no if there's two people it's 160 yeah yeah that makes no fucking sense to me an expensive 18 inches of space and my cousin is cheap and we we walked past the tiempo because I said we're walking we gotta walk past the tempo yeah um caddy or no no caddy no caddy you can but you can but that whole cart fee shit like where it pisses me off like I buying a cart 50 bucks okay I get it get a cart you know there's maintenance they're renting it all that shit but don't charge me and someone else 50 bucks to ride in it charge us 25 each now if i'm if i'm a solo player 50 bucks okay it's my own cart gotcha that's ridiculous to me yeah yeah

Yeah that's just one yeah yeah it's uh it's usually where there's smoke there's fire you know and and especially for as long ago as I've heard some of these stories you know I've heard some of this stuff back when I was catting like a bear's best in like the early 2000 like 2002 2003 2004 you know like I've we had people he's got great coffee he's got good coffee yeah the good stuff um but uh yeah I've you know especially living in Vegas and oh yeah a lot of the a lot of the gambling stories a lot of the debt stories um stories about Michael Jordan golf sexual stories like it's just it's wild and I've like I said I've heard I've heard these stories for almost two two decades now so over two decades so I think there's a little bit of um you know I want to give them the benefit of the doubt I want to say you know innocent until proven guilty but you know it seems like it seems like there's some there's some shit here some mechanical I was I was there with the innocent and proven to guilty you know situation because we didn't know what happened and then now it comes out that he just stuffed it down the pants he just put it down there.

Because I've always thought it was like the sister course of that I I what I was thinking I was I know Joe's way there so I was like is Coyote Springs meets Shadow Creek without trees yeah I was more I I thought it more of the desert core set prim just in immaculate shape you know um perfect greens perfect bunkers um you know it had that it had that vibe um coyote there's so much undulation and um you know big golf holes this this doesn't have I mean there's a couple holes that like the last hole is a it's a big golf hole but there's there's short part fours there's short part threes there's long part threes there's uphills there's downhills there's you know back to back part threes you end nine on a part three you start ten on a part three oh wow oh nice and uh and nine was playing about 105 yards yeah nine was way up front so it was playing like 105 yards and then 10 was back left and 11's at downhill right is that a part five the 10 yeah yeah that's where I the water left I just absolutely nuked my drive and it just ran up forever and uh I had one 75 into that flag and uh put it in the middle of the green and uh it was nice because there's water front left that kind of protects the green a little bit and so I hit it up high right drew it into the middle of the green and uh it says Eagle Pine I'm not leaving this short and I didn't you know went past the hole by about you know foot foot and a half.
