Hello everyone This is Pastor Dean Thompson with a word of hope The burning bush certainly I will be with thee and this shall be a token unto thee Exodus chapter three verse twelve Moses is a fugitive with a price on his head, hiding in Midian as a shepherd. The very occupation the Egyptians despised. Forty years earlier he had been a prince educated in Pharaoh's court. Now he tends another man's flock on the far side of the desert. His grand deliverance attempt have ended in a corpse buried in the sand and a hurried escape. To be a shepherd was for a former son of I Egypt's elite, a spectacular fall. The mountain called Horeb in the rugged Sinai wilderness was the last place a wanted man expected to meet the god of his ancestors. A bush burns without being consumed, an image of God's presence pleasing, yet not destroying. When Moses turns aside, God calls him by name and commissions the failed deliverer to do the very thing his own strength could not accomplish. Moses raises objection after objection. Who am I? What is your name? They will not believe me. I cannot speak. And to each God answers not with a resume of Moses' qualifications, but with a promise of his own presence. Certainly I will be with thee. The bush that burns without burning up is the picture. God's power will fuel a man without consuming him. Grace does not wait for us to become impressive before it calls us. It calls us in our exile, our failure, our sense of being disqualified. Notice that God never actually answers Moses Who am I? Because the real answer is not in Moses at all, but in the I am who sends him. When you feel unfit for what God is asking, the qualification you need is not more competence, but his companionship. He is with you, and that changes what you are able to do. O God, you who are the great I am, you call the disqualified and go with the fearful. When we ask who am I, please remind us it's not about who we are, but about who you are. Please be with us and send us to do your exploits. Give us willing hearts and just help us to avail ourselves always to you. In Jesus' name. Amen. God bless you, brothers and sisters.
