She was home. I got to see her this morning and offer happiness.

Is that what we call that? I call myself Not sure why we call it happy, but yeah, she was home, yeah, she got a lot done. She's having a wedding party in August and then she gets married. Her and Owen get married in December. So we put together centerpieces and we got my dress for the wedding, we got our dresses for the party, we planned other stuff. It was. We had a lot of fun. Don says it seems to be like it's gonna be the biggest party ever, for as much time and effort we're putting into it and I'm just like whatever happens happens, like whatever it is. So she's stressing which I don't understand why because it's a barn party.

So, but yeah, so I got to do that. Yeah, I took off work today. I was gonna go take your boys to his flash pad, but I had no vehicle. Don't tell them, just don't tell them.

Because then they'll ask me to take them tomorrow. They would show up. They came to, were they at our house last Saturday. I think it was this past Saturday this past Saturday and I had I got a lot of packages on my swing. It was like Christmas in July, it really was and all I hear is banging on my front door hey, show, you got packages. Show Zeke's here, so they bring in the packages, but that's not the only thing. They have to rip them open and whatever's in it.

I'm like no, stop yeah they open everything they open everything, and when they can't open it, then they get frustrated and they get upset and then they throw it and well, at our house they just go get the scissors. Well, they don't know where my scissors are.

No, they do not know. And then they ate a pound of bacon. They were happy and yeah, they're going to turn into bacon.

We'll see how many changes are going. Okay, Okay, so in this episode we're going to be covering Matthew. Five, five, five five which is blessed are the meek, for they show inherit the earth. So again, blessed are. We covered that multiple times.

And that's what we'll be covering, and blessed are our Macarius. Yes, so the meek. So this idea of meek, biblically speaking, is typically understood as someone's relationship, and it's someone's relationship with both God and with other people.

So, as we've been covering and I've kind of been, which last week, I felt like I kind of talked in circles a little bit, but doesn't he do that every week?

I love it so we covered the fact that being poor in spirit was an intellectual or a mental aspect of faith, as in understanding and accepting the fact that mentally you believe that Jesus is who he said he was, that Jesus was the Son of God and that he died and rose for your sins. So that's the intellectual aspect of faith. And then we covered mourning. Mourning was the emotional aspect of faith. So it had more to do with that having that desire for a deeper and more meaningful relationship with God and just having that burning, that yearning for that relationship. But now we are into a relationship aspect of faith. So you may be wondering what does somebody being meek have to do with?

Well, I'm glad you were thinking that, because I have the answer for you.

Whether it's a good answer, I don't know. I was up to you to decide. But to understand that we have to understand what being meek actually means. Good answer a lot of people just say it's humble. To be meek is to be humble. Yes, that is true, but it's deeper than that. So a person who is meek is, let's say it's, a person who has high social status, high economic status, high political status, high whatever has power, status that has been given to them in one way or another, but it is a person who doesn't use that status or stature to basically oppress or belittle or to use that position to benefit themselves in any way, shape or form, which is kind of a definition of humble.

You may be a person who has a lot, but you don't throw that in other people's face. You're humble Even though you may have billions of dollars in your bank account and have nice cars and houses and whatever, whatever you can imagine, but every person you meet you treat exactly the same as if they're equal to you. That would be a person who would be meek. But this does work both ways, because not everybody has billions of dollars in their bank account. No, I wish I did. Like I said, we all don't have those billions of dollars. So if you're a person of low status, low statures and for me I kind of I'm thinking the lowest of the low If you're somebody who's homeless or just really in hard times, or somebody who is out begging on the streets, that person can still be meek in the aspect that they're not taking advantage, they're not using their position as somebody in the low position, they're not taking advantage of those who are being generous with their money and time. So it does work both ways. So again, humble is a good one word definition for it, because it is about owning up to whatever you have, whether it's good or bad, and just putting yourself on equal level. So that's what a meek person is like. And now you can kind of see how it kind of jumps into that relationship aspect, because it is how you treat others as well. Because let's face the facts, I don't remember the exact verse. I'll stop my head, I'll put it right here.

Whatever it is, it'll be right here, no, right here, oh, okay, or somewhere in middle. Anyways, I'll be being so argumentative, I don't know, you're good. Anyways, what was I saying when Jesus was in Jerusalem? He was approached by I don't remember his Pharisees or Sadducees, but they, they asked him a question Do I think Jesus, what is the greatest commandment? And Jesus reply was that the the greatest commandment is to love God with all your heart, for all your soul, with all your spirit. But then he goes on and says but the second, most important and equally as important, is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Mm-hmm, so Jesus says, saying himself, that loving other people is Just as important as loving God. I mean, god is more important, but loving others is just as important.

And that's what this is about being meek. It's about that relationship aspect, about being humble and not using Anything to to benefit yourself. I think a couple weeks ago we talked about those that are. You know, we were talking about pouring spirit, and the opposite of that was reaching spirit. And that'd be the type of person who Will claw their way, do whatever they have to to climb the ladder, their social ladder. Well, that is not meek at all. So we are going to be getting into this and actually I'm gonna hold off with that. So we actually get to that point, because I'm kind of jumping all over my notes. Okay, are you surprised?

Yeah, like I said, my notes are guidelines for you, just to keep me on track. Yes right, so I'm trying to stay on track.

Yeah. So, like I said this before, in this, before we got into the actual beatitudes, is that these beatitudes are not new revelations from Jesus. They are echoing Old Testament in one way, shape or another. And this verse 5 is no different. And and this is echoing Psalms 37, 10 and 11, and I want to read that and that reads in just a little while the wicked will be no more, though you look carefully at his place. He will not be there, but the meek shall inherit the land and delight themselves in abundance peace, an abundant peace. So look at this.

Understanding Meekness and Inheritance

This deals more with or at least it seems like it deals more with, a person's relationship with God, but you don't really see it in these two verses. So if we would actually jump up and read Psalm 37, 7 through 9, with it which I'm not going to actually read it and when do a paraphrase, which is gonna take a lot longer than whether, whatever, whatever, it's fine. So verses 7 through 9 of that Psalm that deals with Basically, and to sum it up quickly, it is to trust in the Lord, because it's talking about if you are a person who is meek, but you see somebody who you may know or you may work with and you may know that they are kind of like that rich and spear type person or they are doing whatever they can to to get up that social ladder and they will Take advantage of anybody and everything that they can right to to get that ladder. Well, you see that person making that climb and they're being successful.

They are actually climbing the ladder right right and you're like I don't understand why somebody who is Evil or wicked is successful. Well, that's where the psalmist is coming in and saying you need to be patient, and the Lord, because at that day of judgment, all those wicked people who were successful at that point, they're gonna be wiped away and Even though you may not have been as successful in life, you're gonna inherit them. I mean, so they're gonna be wiped off the face of the earth and you will still be here and once you realize that Then you come to a humble state and a meek state, because you can trust in the Lord.

So that's where this, this beatitude, is even coming from is understanding that concept behind it interesting so that is very important to understand.

And with that, following that same line, I mean, when you see this kind of stuff in the Psalms, when you see they mentioned poor, while you also typically see that paired with meek, and if you're corn spirit and you have a, a meek demeanor, well, guess what you're going to be mourning for that deeper relationship to the Lord. So all three of these work hand in hand. So it's the intellectual, it's the, the emotional and the relationship aspect of faith. And this is just the first three. We got what four more, I don't know. I think so. I think they're 7-2.

Okay, so yeah, that's why these are kind of like the Christian core values this Jesus is setting up, like hey, this is how we should be living our lives as Christians. So it is important To see a biblical definition or example of this, which I think this is. A great example is in Titus 3.1-7. Now, technically it's only Titus 3.1-2, but I want to read 1-7, and then we'll come back and Go back to read 1-2? Yeah.

So Titus 3.1-7 reads Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God, our Savior, appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to His own mercy and the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ, our Savior, so that, being justified by His grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. So I thought that was just a great passage in its entirety.

But let's reread verses 1 and 2 of that Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle and to show perfect courtesy toward all people. So this is what it means to be meek, and you're probably in three camps when it comes to this. You're probably in the first camp, which is okay. Yes, I agree. That's what meekness means. That's how we should be living our lives. Great.

You may be in the second camp, which is like whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute. Here I have to submit to all rulers, I have to submit to all authority.

I have to be obedient.

Speaker 2 19:15

Yeah, it's like well, wait a minute here. Like I don't agree with our current political atmosphere and environment, like I can't do this, so you might be in that camp, or you might be in the third camp, which is other In case. I threw that third way in, I don't know why you had to have three camps, okay.

Well, there might be, in how I think there are others. Yes, okay, there might be others, I do. So I kind of want to talk about what I did on our church service, but you should like my, my Equilibris to comment oh, yes, anyways. So the truth is somewhere in between those two camps because, yes, you are supposed to be submissive and obedient and kind and courteous and all those good things, but we also need to realize that Jesus wasn't always all those things. I mean, yes, he stood up against authority, he stood up against the Pharisees, he stood up against the Sadducees, but he also Did it in a humble way.

I was just gonna say that so you can't stand up to authority and stand up for what you believe is right in a correct way, in a humble way in a meek way and couple other examples, and Jesus is a broad example, but some Good examples that I think of is if you go to the book of Daniel.

Well, daniel himself, plus Shadrach, meshach and Bednego so for Daniel it was there were some people that were against him and they tricked the, the king, which was Nebuchadnezzar, into Basically making a law saying that it was illegal for anybody to worship anybody but King Nebuchadnezzar. Well, daniel's like yeah, I'm not doing that.

So he'd go into his room and, like he did All the time, and he would pray. Well, the people who didn't like Daniel seen him reported him to the king and Because the king made this law, he had to go through with the punishment, which was to throw Daniel into the lion's den. Well, the next day Daniel was brought out of the lion's den unharmed, so you can't stand up against authority, and the in Yahweh will still protect you, even though you're standing up against the powers and authorities of this world right.

And then the same concept was with Shadrach, meshach and Bednego, whenever they were told they had to worship this golden image and they refused to bow down to it, and they were like, well, you can kill us, but we're still not gonna bow down to it. They throw into the furnace. What do they see? Four people instead of three. Jesus was with them, yeah, so yeah, goosebumps.

Yeah. So even though this is a perfect example of what a meek person is, that doesn't mean you can't stand up for what you believe is right. There are biblical examples of that. Yeah, so Equalibrous. The truth is in the middle. That'll make sense whenever we really really it will all come. It will come. It may be Like a month, we can release it, but it'll be here. Yeah, so this idea of earth could also be translated as land and, if you Like I've said this multiple times if you look at this through the eyes of those who would have been listening to this at the day, at the time that Jesus was alive, Mm-hmm. No, it's technically wasn't written in the written. Anyways, minor detail If you look at it from the from the perspective of the ancient Israelites. Whenever anybody starts talking about land, Mm-hmm it automatically would bring up images and thoughts of the land of Canaan. Inheriting the land of Canaan.

That was a huge thing in their, in their history, and so a lot of times whenever land and stuff like that is mentioned in Old Testament, it is kind of changed and whenever a Reference to that is made in the New Testament, it's not referring to actual land, it kind of changes the, the image of it a little bit and, and even though this is putting them in that mindset, it still has that whole feeling of, though it may not be the land, like here, like where we're actually Standing, where we're living, like this Earth, this planet. It's talking about the eternal the, the after this World that we know is over, because, as we see in scripture, at the end of this world heavens want to come down on earth. So that's the land they're referring to. You'll be inheriting that future land, that eternity, and it goes with the. What we're talking about before the meekness, you know you may see people who Are wicked or evil, you know, being prosperous.

But, they're going to be cut off and removed from the land and those who are meek and in the Lord, they will inherit the like. They will inherit eternity, and that's what this land is that they're talking about right, which is so much richer than any of the boy. Yeah, yeah so I Don't know if I covered everything in my notes, cuz I didn't really look in them.
