Take a walk with me through New York’s Upper West Side in the rain — no script, just real conversation. In this episode, I talk about the old Cafe Lalo, my years living on Riverside Drive, NYC’s changing neighborhoods, and what makes the West Side feel different. You’ll hear about:

  • My stops at classic places like H&H Bagels and Barney Greengrass
  • Tales of sending bagels nationwide during my Periscope days
  • Real stories from my time on Madison and Fifth Avenue running multi-floor menswear stores
  • Custom tailoring, $695 raincoats, and what’s coming this fall/winter
  • Observations on the state of retail post-COVID — what’s real and what’s hype
  • Getting caught in the rain in a lightweight shell coat (with no umbrella, of course)

This is a stream-of-consciousness walk through Manhattan — raw, real, and full of New York character.

UWS Walk

(0:10) Notifying the viewers. Viewers are being notified. It is loud out here, really loud.(0:19) There's a lot of noise. Always a lot of noise. It's a cloudy day.Maybe it's gonna rain, but (0:27) It might rain on my head. I don't have an umbrella. Actually, I have an umbrella, but I'm not carrying the umbrella, which is not very smart.(0:36) But here we are. Different part of the city. This is West Side.Upper West Side. I'm usually on the Upper East Side, mostly. (0:43) But this is the Upper West.Damascus. Thanks for joining, Damascus. Thank you for coming in.(0:50) This is Upper West. You know, there's a cafe over here that I used to go to all the time. (0:54) You know, when my kids were little, we used to come up here.Let me see what I showed you. (0:58) It happens to be, it was a great place. And it's happened to be, it's out of business.I don't know why. (1:02) Maybe some of you have heard of it. It was right over there. You see it? Not that. You see that? (1:09) Where am I looking? You see that bunch of windows? Where am I looking over here? (1:15) You see that bunch of windows sort of sticking out? I think I'm looking at the wrong place. This way.(1:20) There we go. It's sort of in the middle of the block by that tree. It was called Cafe Lalo.(1:26) If you look it up online, Cafe Lalo, L-A-L-O. It was a great place. Coffee, so many good cakes and pastries.(1:34) And they served light food like salads, scrambled eggs. It was open until like 4 o'clock in the morning. (1:40) You could go at like 2, 3 o'clock in the morning, get like an omelet and a nice pastry, piece of cheesecake and a cappuccino.(1:47) It was such a nice place. And it was there for many years. I don't know how long it was there.(1:53) But a long, long time, as long as I can remember. They always had the Christmas lights on the tree. (1:57) You see these trees right here? Those trees always had the Christmas lights on them. But the place is out of business. (2:04) So I was here to see somebody. By the way, Broadway is down the block. That's Broadway. (2:09) Broadway down there. And in front of me is Amsterdam.Amsterdam, always a strange kind of street. (2:15) It's like very eclectic. A couple of brand names, a lot of mom and pop, which is nice.(2:22) Let me get by this lake. I don't know. They're pumping out the sewer.(2:25) Gotta get by this noise over here. (2:29) Man, that is loud. (2:36) They're pumping out the sewer.(2:39) You know, I haven't been around the Upper West Side in a long time. (2:44) I gotta yell. I gotta yell in Manhattan on this street.Crazy. (2:48) I haven't been around. I used to live over here. Not really Upper West, but I was living like West-West, all the way by the Hudson River. (2:56) On 66th and Riverside. I lived there for a bunch of years, right in front of the Hudson River.(3:02) Who do we got in here? We got Ben. It's hard to see in the daylight. (3:05) We got Ben.We got Ozark. We got Shannon. We got Reginald. We got a lot. (3:11) We got Steven. We got Robert. We got a lot of people coming in. (3:15) We got Holly. We got Jacob.A lot of people. (3:19) Batchy, thanks for joining. Thanks for coming. Thanks for sharing. Thanks for liking. (3:24) So we're here walking up.Gonna get something to eat. (3:27) You know, cause I got some, saw some customers this morning. (3:31) Those of you, I don't know if you know what I do.I don't know if you know what I do. (3:34) I make custom-made clothes, but I haven't been doing it in a long time. (3:37) I had a lot of stores in the city. One day we'll get down to Madison Avenue in Midtown, in the real expensive area, like near Rockefeller Center. (3:45) I'll show you where my stores were. We'll talk about the stores down there.(3:49) That's where all the fancy brand name stores are. This looks like a cool place. (3:53) This is a gelato place. How about that? (3:55) Maybe after I eat, we'll go there for some gelato. (3:59) That's what's dangerous about, you know, you walk around the city, you can just fall into anywhere. (4:03) There's restaurants all over, stuff to buy everywhere.(4:06) But now I got, I have some things at my tailor. (4:10) I have a customer who's going on a trip tomorrow. (4:12) And I needed some tailoring done.So my tailor is doing the tailoring. (4:16) And hello, I am here to collect your... (4:24) Anyway, so... (4:27) Hi, I have somebody very special that I want to bring him to you to get a suit. (4:32) Okay, can we get you signed up? (4:34) Get me signed up? Okay.(4:36) Everybody wants to sign me up for what? I don't know. (4:39) For my suit? Yes. (4:42) You can get in touch with me on my website, which is suitcafe.com. (4:46) You can go there.(4:47) Ah, see, now the noise got away from that noise. (4:49) That noise was insane. (4:51) Insane noise.(4:52) So today I got the purple tie and I got this suit on. (4:55) It's like a play. (4:55) You know, this suit, I haven't worn in like a year.(4:58) I didn't wear that suit in like a year. (5:01) And it still fits pretty good. I like that suit.(5:05) But it's hard to see. (5:07) Really hard to see. (5:08) Thank you for that.Thank you for that. Thank you for that. (5:10) I hope you can hear me okay, too.(5:12) So we're walking up here on the Upper West Side. (5:16) Just walking a little bit. (5:19) And we got Bill coming in.(5:22) Right? (5:23) We got a lot of people coming in. (5:24) We got Martaz. We got Efrain coming in.(5:27) Random is coming in. Thanks everybody for coming in. (5:32) Yeah, so we're walking up here.(5:34) Then we're on the West Side. (5:35) We're going to have to go over to, back to the East Side. (5:39) Because my tailor is on the East Side.(5:42) And we're going to pick up the clothing. (5:43) And we're going to bring it back to this customer's apartment. (5:46) Because he has a trip tomorrow.(5:48) I saw him earlier this morning. (5:50) We did a quick fitting. (5:51) We're just going to open the crotch.(5:54) Sorry, my voice. (5:58) We're just going to open the crotch on the pants. (6:01) That could be painful, opening the crotch.(6:03) You know what I mean? (6:04) Right? (6:05) But that's what we got to do. (6:07) So Michael, thanks for joining. (6:08) Stay for dessert.(6:09) Oh, I'd like to get some dessert. (6:11) Appreciate that. (6:13) For everybody coming in here.(6:15) And this is 86 in Amsterdam. (6:17) Oh, by the way, Russ & Daughters is right here. (6:19) I mean, Barney Greengrass.(6:21) Everybody goes to Barney Greengrass. (6:23) You know Barney Greengrass? (6:24) That's the famous place to get like a bagel with lox or whitefish or tuna fish. (6:30) That's like the famous place to do it.(6:33) But I'm not going to go there. (6:35) I saw a place before. (6:36) Where the hell was it? (6:37) Oh, I think it was on Columbus.(6:38) I think I got to walk one block over to Columbus Ave. (6:41) Maybe that's what I'm going to do now. (6:43) I walked up too far.(6:45) Let's walk on 86 and we'll go to Columbus. (6:48) See, the Upper West Side hits a little different. (6:51) It's not like the East Side at all.(6:53) This is all like very eclectic. (6:55) A lot of mom and pop shops. (6:57) Of course you got your CVS and you got your Walgreens.(7:00) You got Broadway down there with the big apartment buildings. (7:03) There's Broadway. (7:05) And of course you know where Broadway goes.(7:07) It goes all the way down. (7:08) So when people say Broadway, that's the same Broadway. (7:11) Although this is on the Upper West Side.(7:13) Yummy. Chicago needs more good bagels. (7:15) Okay.(7:15) Well, you get the green ones when it's St. Paddy's Day in Chicago, right? (7:18) You get the green bagels. (7:22) So let's walk over to Columbus. (7:25) Man, I used to know every single place.(7:26) I still know a lot of them. (7:27) But I haven't been in this neighborhood in a while. (7:30) There used to be a good bagel place that you used to go to further up.(7:33) Like 92nd, 93rd on Amsterdam. (7:36) We used to go there all the time. (7:37) And they had some good brownies.(7:38) And actually one time I was on Periscope. (7:41) For those of you who remember that app. (7:44) Let me go back down here.(7:45) Remember the Periscope app? (7:47) We could obviously live stream. (7:48) It was the first live streaming app that there was. (7:51) And I was on Periscope.(7:53) And I used to go into that bagel store. (7:55) And people used to send me their address. (7:57) And I used to send them bagels all over the whole United States.(8:00) One time I sent 50 bagels in one day to people all over the U.S. (8:04) I wrapped them up in plastic baggies. (8:06) And I sent them next day to everybody all over. (8:09) I sent bagels to Texas and to Idaho.(8:12) And I sent bagels to Montana. (8:15) I sent bagels all over the place. (8:16) It was a funny thing.(8:18) And then people would tag me on Instagram. (8:20) There was no. (8:21) That was the only live streaming app.(8:23) Instagram was around. (8:24) But there was no TikTok or anything. (8:27) Twitter didn't have live streaming yet.(8:29) Facebook didn't have live streaming yet. (8:32) And people were tagging me on Instagram. (8:34) They would cook the bagel or toast it.(8:37) And they would tag me to show me what they ate with the bagel. (8:40) Butter. (8:41) Peanut butter and jelly.(8:42) It was very funny. (8:43) Cream cheese. (8:44) I thought that was pretty funny.(8:46) That they were tagging me. (8:48) Tagging me doing that. (8:50) You know.(8:53) So we're going to walk down this street here. (8:55) They've got a lot of little brownstones over here. (8:58) And then we'll be on Columbus' the next block over.(9:01) I mean, Broadway is more interesting. (9:04) But I got to go this direction because I'm heading back east. (9:07) And then we'll take a walk through Central Park.(9:10) But I don't walk through the park part. (9:12) I go on the transverse. (9:13) Anybody know what the transverse is? (9:15) The transverse is where the cars go.(9:17) And they have a sidewalk on either side. (9:19) So you could walk across Central Park on the transverse. (9:22) As opposed to just walking on the pathway where all the trees are.(9:27) And that's how that works out. (9:29) Alma, thanks for joining. (9:31) Alma, appreciate that.(9:35) And, yeah, so let's walk over here. (9:36) I'll show you what's in. (9:37) I'll show you what's in.(9:38) You can see what's around me. (9:39) There you go. (9:41) You can see what's around me here.(9:44) Walking here in New York City. (9:48) And they used to do this all the time. (9:49) Walk around Manhattan and show different interesting places.(10:02) We'll order a. (10:02) We're going to go to this bagel shop, I think. (10:05) Called H&H. (10:07) You know H&H Bagels? (10:08) They used to have a friend who was an attorney for H&H Bagels.(10:12) I mean, I still have the friend, but he's not an attorney there anymore. (10:14) It was a long time ago. (10:15) And he used to work in the bagel store.(10:17) Not making bagels, but he was the attorney for them. (10:20) But it was inside, like, the bagel factory was his office. (10:24) You know? (10:25) So now he works for a big law firm.(10:27) So I heard. (10:30) He works for a big law firm. (10:31) So we're already starting to talk about the fall winter clothing.(10:37) You know? (10:37) Fall winter. (10:37) We're going to start to see some fall winter clothes in July. (10:41) For the next season.(10:42) I got some ideas of what I want to design for fall winter. (10:46) Let me get your feedback on this. (10:47) I'm going to do a double-breasted peacoat.(10:51) I always like peacoat. (10:52) But not short peacoat. (10:54) I like it a little longer.(10:55) It's got to be, like, almost, like, halfway down the thigh for a double-breasted peacoat. (10:59) And it's got to cover your suit jacket. (11:01) Always want to wear a suit jacket or a sport jacket with a peacoat.(11:05) You don't always have to. (11:05) You could wear a sweater. (11:06) But I want to design it for people who are going to be wearing that always.(11:11) Here's a nice brownstone for sale. (11:13) That's for sale right there. (11:14) See? (11:15) Got the for sale sign.(11:17) Whoop. (11:19) Almost dropped the phone. (11:21) Hi, hi, hi, hi.(11:22) Who's that? (11:22) I can't see. (11:23) It says Alma. (11:24) Hi.(11:25) Alma Byers. (11:26) Thank you for joining, Alma Byers. (11:29) Appreciate you coming in.(11:31) And, you know, one day we'll go down to Madison Avenue near St. Patrick's Cathedral, (11:36) near Rockefeller Center, near Saks Fifth Avenue, (11:39) where all the action is happening down there. (11:41) That's where I had my stores on 51st and Madison, (11:44) 44th and Madison, (11:46) 59th and 3rd Avenue. (11:48) Oh, if you saw the picture I posted.(11:50) I think I put it on TikTok. (11:52) There's a TikTok that I did the other day. (11:53) I was picking out my tie for the morning.(11:56) And it wasn't this tie. (11:57) It was a different tie. (11:59) But the background picture is me when I was in my 30s, (12:02) standing in front of my store on 59th and 3rd Avenue, (12:07) right on the corner.(12:07) I had a corner store there. (12:09) I had the whole building, actually. (12:10) Three floors of menswear.(12:13) I had there. (12:14) Oh, look what's opening up over here. (12:16) Let me turn the camera around.(12:19) This is a very famous place. (12:23) This is a very famous place from downtown. (12:26) They're opening up here on the Upper West Side.(12:28) I'll turn around so you can see it. (12:31) It's very famous. (12:33) Right? There you go.(12:35) Big Gay Ice Cream. (12:38) See? Big Gay Ice Cream. (12:39) That's a very famous, well-known place here in New York City, downtown.(12:43) Not uptown. (12:43) Well, now they're moving. (12:44) Now they got one.(12:45) They're going to put one on the Upper West Side. (12:47) See? Big Gay Ice Cream. (12:48) This is with the Upper West Side.(12:49) You got ice cream. (12:50) You got coffee. (12:51) You got restaurants.(12:52) Especially here in Columbus. (12:54) Columbus has a lot of that. (12:55) A lot of restaurants and cafes on Columbus Avenue.(12:59) And we're going to pop into one of these and grab something to eat. (13:02) Because it's already, what time is it? (13:04) It's already, what time? (13:05) 12.30. (13:06) I didn't have any breakfast yet. (13:07) So I got to get something.(13:10) Got to get a little something-something. (13:11) Got to get something to eat. (13:12) There's a cocktail bar.(13:14) This is a breakfast and lunch. (13:17) Atelio Taverna. (13:18) Taverna is like a Greek, you know? (13:20) Isn't taverna usually Greek food? (13:22) I think that's usually Greek.(13:23) Here's a burrito bar. (13:25) Right? (13:26) See, the Upper West Side is fun. (13:28) Because it's different.(13:29) It's a lot of individual places. (13:31) As opposed to, you know, this brand and that brand. (13:34) And all the brands that are the same.(13:36) All the different brands. (13:37) The same all over the world. (13:39) When you walk on some of these city streets.(13:41) No matter where you are. (13:41) Whether you're in Rome. (13:43) Or you're in Milan.(13:44) Or you're in Paris. (13:45) You're in Madrid. (13:46) Or if you're in Tokyo.(13:47) In the Ginza. (13:49) I mean, a lot of the stores. (13:51) A lot of the places are all the same.(13:52) You want to find some interesting. (13:55) You know, here you got. (13:56) Here you got the Greek.(13:58) You got the burrito. (13:59) You got a market. (14:00) You got the bagel store.(14:01) You got the pizza store. (14:02) You got a coffee shop. (14:04) That just sells like coffee espresso.(14:06) Italian espresso in the middle of the block. (14:08) Then you have. (14:08) What's after this? (14:09) Then you have a creperie.(14:11) A crepe place like French. (14:12) Then there's a wine shop. (14:13) And then on the corner.(14:14) I can't quite see. (14:15) Oh, the wine shop goes to the corner. (14:16) So just on one block.(14:17) You have some very different. (14:19) Unusual kind of places. (14:21) You know, places to see.(14:22) Places to eat. (14:23) I don't want that kind of. (14:24) Ah, you don't want that kind of ice cream.(14:26) How do you clean grime dust on a suit from walking around? (14:29) Well, you don't really need to clean. (14:30) There's no grime or dust getting on your suit. (14:33) But today I got the lightweight raincoat on.(14:35) It's a little drizzling out. (14:36) But this raincoat doesn't weigh anything. (14:38) It has no lining.(14:38) No padding. (14:39) There's nothing inside this raincoat. (14:41) It's just like a. (14:42) Like a shell.(14:43) It doesn't wrinkle. (14:44) Like I wear it almost every day. (14:45) Just for the pockets.(14:46) Even if it's warm out. (14:47) You can wear this raincoat. (14:48) I sell it for $6.95. (14:49) I've sold a lot of them.(14:51) I have a whole video on it on my YouTube channel. (14:53) Which is Suit Cafe. (14:55) For my YouTube channel.(14:57) And, uh. (14:58) Is it expensive to live in this neighborhood? (15:00) Yes. May.(15:01) It's still cool. (15:02) Yeah. (15:02) Tom Smith and Alma.(15:03) Yes. (15:04) How do you. (15:05) So you don't really have to clean the suit.(15:06) You like to hang your suits up. (15:08) And keep them hanging. (15:09) You know.(15:09) Maybe if you wear one one day. (15:11) Then you hang it up. (15:12) And you let it rest a couple of days.(15:13) Then you can wear it again. (15:15) Unless you get it dirty. (15:16) Like dirt gets on it.(15:17) Or it gets rained on. (15:19) And it loses its shape. (15:20) Then you want to give it to the cleaner.(15:22) And say. (15:22) Please clean it. (15:23) Press it.(15:24) And they'll go ahead. (15:24) And they'll do that. (15:27) Do you use conditioner? (15:28) No.(15:28) I don't use conditioner on my hair. (15:30) I don't. (15:31) Because it makes my hair too soft.(15:32) And then it like. (15:33) Flies away. (15:34) It's like a big poof monster.(15:35) If I use conditioner. (15:37) Um. (15:39) But, uh.(15:39) Let's see. (15:40) Yeah. (15:40) It's expensive to live everywhere.(15:42) In Manhattan. (15:44) You know. (15:44) The Upper West Side.(15:45) Is probably not as expensive. (15:47) As the Upper East. (15:47) I would not think.(15:51) So. (15:51) You know. (15:52) Maybe.(15:52) A one bedroom. (15:53) Or a two bedroom. (15:54) A one bedroom.(15:55) Might be. (15:57) 4,000. (15:58) 4,500.(15:59) For a one bedroom. (16:00) A two bedroom. (16:01) In a nice building.(16:02) It might approach 5,000. (16:03) For a two bedroom. (16:04) Or 5,500.(16:06) You know. (16:06) Somewhere around there. (16:07) You know.(16:07) You can go on Zillow. (16:08) And you could. (16:09) Go New York.(16:10) New York. (16:11) And go under rentals. (16:12) And you'll see all the prices.(16:13) And where. (16:13) Where those neighborhoods are. (16:15) New York City is cooked.(16:16) Not the same. (16:18) What. (16:18) You're.(16:18) Ralph. (16:18) You're 100% right. (16:19) It's not the same.(16:21) By the way. (16:22) It's not the same at all. (16:23) I mean.(16:24) Nowhere near what it was. (16:25) Especially if we go down to Midtown. (16:26) Where I had my stores.(16:28) It used to be. (16:28) So packed on the street. (16:30) That you couldn't walk on the street.(16:31) I mean. (16:32) You're. (16:32) You're elbow to elbow with people.(16:34) Now the streets are pretty much. (16:35) Empty. (16:36) There's a lot of empty stores.(16:37) A crazy amount. (16:38) You know. (16:39) They say.(16:39) Oh. (16:39) By the way. (16:40) The New York City is coming back.(16:41) It's like. (16:42) Back in business. (16:43) I mean.(16:43) These stores are renting. (16:44) Top dollar. (16:45) Everything is getting rented up.(16:46) It's just not true. (16:47) I mean. (16:47) If you go there.(16:48) And you walk around. (16:49) You're gonna see right away. (16:50) That it's just not the case.(16:52) Lots of empty stores. (16:53) Oh. (16:53) I posted on my.(16:54) On my TikTok. (16:55) A video. (16:55) A clip from a video.(16:56) From 2023. (16:58) When I was walking around. (16:59) In that neighborhood.(17:01) Midtown Manhattan. (17:02) Showing the empty stores. (17:03) And it's still like that today.(17:05) I'm 26. (17:06) Imagine that. (17:07) LOL.(17:07) Got the top. (17:08) Yeah. (17:08) These.(17:08) That's right. (17:09) These are Tom Ford. (17:11) These actually started out as eyeglasses.(17:14) I wore them as eyeglasses. (17:16) And they had prescription lenses in them. (17:18) And then I had some eye surgery.(17:19) A couple of years ago. (17:20) And I didn't need glasses anymore. (17:22) So I went back to the place where I bought them.(17:24) And they popped into Tom Ford lenses. (17:25) No charge. (17:27) And now they're sunglasses.(17:28) Not prescriptions. (17:29) So that was nice of them. (17:30) Right? (17:31) Yeah.(17:31) I got the Tom Ford's on today. (17:33) I wear these a lot. (17:34) I wear these a lot.(17:35) I got some Maui Jims. (17:36) I like the Maui Jims. (17:37) With the mirrored lenses.(17:39) Sort of like. (17:40) It's nice for biking. (17:41) Nice for the beach.(17:43) Nice to wear a baseball cap with that. (17:45) You know. (17:46) It wasn't LASIK.(17:47) I had a cataract surgery. (17:50) So I had cataracts in both eyes. (17:51) I was a little young for it actually.(17:53) But I did have it. (17:54) So I had cataract surgery. (17:56) In the spring of 2022.(17:59) And I did my right eye. (18:00) And then I did my left eye. (18:02) And it was great.(18:03) And now I don't need glasses anymore. (18:05) I don't need glasses to read. (18:06) I don't need glasses to drive.(18:07) I don't need glasses to go to the movies. (18:09) I wore glasses since I was 10 years old. (18:11) All the time.(18:12) Every day. (18:13) All day. (18:14) And now.(18:15) No more glasses. (18:17) So. (18:17) If you have a cataract.(18:19) And you need cataract surgery. (18:20) It's not bad. (18:21) It's a lot of eye drops after the surgery.(18:23) But no pain. (18:24) If you get a good. (18:25) If you get a good ophthalmologist.(18:27) Who specializes in cataracts. (18:29) It's like. (18:30) You go in the morning.(18:31) And you're home by 12. (18:32) And the next day. (18:33) You're taking off the bandage.(18:34) And you can't believe. (18:35) You're seeing like. (18:35) Oh my god.(18:36) I can see my computer screen. (18:38) Like perfectly clear. (18:39) And crisp.(18:40) With no glasses. (18:41) I could see everything. (18:42) In the car dashboard.(18:43) The radio. (18:44) Everything. (18:45) I could see.(18:45) I could see license plates. (18:46) In front of me. (18:47) I could see all the street signs.(18:48) It was pretty amazing. (18:50) You know. (18:50) Awesome.(18:51) Great talk. (18:51) I'm interested in fashion. (18:52) So I will drop a follow.(18:53) Thank you Ralph. (18:54) Please do. (18:55) And by the way.(18:55) For those of you. (18:56) Who like to listen to podcasts. (18:59) I have a podcast called.(19:00) It's all been done before. (19:02) And it's on all podcast platforms. (19:04) But what I do is.(19:05) I strip the audio. (19:06) Out of this live. (19:08) On TikTok.(19:09) And I make it a podcast. (19:11) So you'll be able to listen to all of this. (19:12) Just as a podcast.(19:13) Without the video. (19:14) If you want to listen to it. (19:17) So I do that.(19:18) I do that a lot of times. (19:20) So let's go in here. (19:21) We're going to go in here.(19:21) And take a look. (19:22) This is H&H Bagel. (19:23) I don't know what they got in there.(19:24) But. (19:24) You must have a pretty good bagel. (19:26) What do you think? (19:26) Maybe we get a bagel with tuna fish.(19:28) Or go someplace else. (19:29) This is H&H Bagel. (19:30) I don't know what they got in there.(19:31) But. (19:32) You must have a pretty good bagel. (19:33) What do you think? (19:34) Maybe we get a bagel with tuna fish.(19:36) Or go someplace else. (19:37) So should I do the bagel? (19:38) I don't really feel like sitting down in a restaurant. (19:41) And getting like.(19:44) Restaurant with a waiter. (19:46) And then got to wait for the food. (19:48) I'm not really in the mood for that.(19:49) Plus. (19:50) I'm more in the mood of. (19:51) You know.(19:51) You place the order. (19:52) You get the bagel. (19:52) You sit down.(19:53) You eat the bagel. (19:54) And you go. (19:55) That's sort of what I'm in.(19:56) Now I could do it here. (19:58) Or I could walk to the east side. (20:00) And I could do it there.(20:02) So what should I do? (20:03) Do it over here. (20:04) Right here. (20:05) This is H&H.(20:05) Right behind me. (20:06) I'm standing right by the window. (20:08) H&H bagels right here.(20:10) Or should I go over to the east. (20:13) And then. (20:14) Go to the east side.(20:15) And then. (20:16) Maybe I'll go to the east side. (20:18) And I'll walk to the east side.(20:19) And I'll do it over there. (20:21) I could do that too. (20:22) So I'm not sure what I'm going to do.(20:26) Maybe I'll go check out this place up the block. (20:28) It's an Italian place. (20:30) But do I feel like having like a bowl of.(20:31) I really don't feel like a bowl of pasta. (20:33) After pasta. (20:34) It's like.(20:34) You eat a bowl of pasta. (20:36) And you're like. (20:36) Especially in the afternoon.(20:37) When you eat a bowl of pasta. (20:38) And then it's like. (20:39) So heavy.(20:40) You're like. (20:40) Oh man. (20:41) Now I can't.(20:42) I can't even eat dinner. (20:43) It's like one o'clock. (20:44) I had a pasta.(20:45) And now. (20:45) By six o'clock. (20:46) I can't even eat.(20:47) You know that feeling? (20:49) I know that feeling. (20:50) You can't even eat after that. (20:55) You know.(20:55) So. (20:57) That's what's. (20:58) That's what's crazy.(20:59) That's what's crazy about this. (21:00) So we're standing here now. (21:02) And.(21:03) Let's see what we're going to do. (21:06) Maybe we'll go inside. (21:07) And see what.(21:09) See what they got. (21:10) There's nobody really inside. (21:12) I feel like the only one sitting there eating.(21:16) You know. (21:16) But then nobody bothers you. (21:17) I hate.(21:18) I hate when people bother you. (21:19) You like being bothered. (21:20) I hate that.(21:21) When people bother you all the time. (21:24) Right. (21:24) That's what.(21:24) What is that comic he always says. (21:26) Sebastian Menescalco. (21:27) He's very funny.(21:28) He doesn't like to be bothered. (21:29) Everything botherss him. (21:31) Right.(21:32) He was online. (21:32) He was on the other day. (21:33) Saying that.(21:35) He's from Chicago. (21:36) So everybody's calling him up. (21:38) Asking him if he knows the Pope.(21:39) And he's like. (21:40) I'm so much younger than the Pope. (21:42) What did we meet in high school? (21:42) We didn't meet in high school.(21:44) The guy's like. (21:44) 20 years older than me. (21:46) Why are you people calling me.(21:47) Asking me if I know the Pope. (21:48) Just because I'm from Chicago. (21:49) Chicago.(21:52) Right. (21:52) Chicago. (21:54) Is that what it is? (21:55) Chicago.(21:57) Maybe we'll walk across. (21:59) Huh. (21:59) Maybe we'll do that.(22:00) I think. (22:01) Maybe we'll do that. (22:02) Is it raining right now? (22:03) I'm standing under this awning.(22:06) Let me see. (22:07) It's a little bit. (22:08) Like a little bit of a drizzle.(22:09) I don't have an umbrella. (22:10) That's the thing. (22:11) I am missing an umbrella.(22:13) Today. (22:13) Let's go inside and see what they got. (22:14) I'm gonna switch the camera around.(22:17) And I'll have you guys take a look. (22:19) Alright. (22:20) You guys wanna see what they got over there? (22:24) By the way.(22:25) TikTok. (22:25) You gotta put a button. (22:26) Right on the screen for live.(22:27) You tap the button. (22:28) Boom. (22:29) The camera flips.(22:29) I should have to look for it. (22:31) In like a menu. (22:32) Where I gotta flip the camera.(22:33) Where it's in a menu. (22:34) Let me take the sunglasses off. (22:37) You wanna be rude.(22:38) Walking into a place with the sunglasses on. (22:41) I love this raincoat. (22:42) The water is beating up.(22:43) The little drizzle. (22:45) Droplets are beating. (22:46) Beating on this raincoat.(22:49) Okay. (22:49) Let's see what they got in here. (22:50) Come.(23:01) A couple of babies. (23:13) So that was quick. (23:15) I walked in.(23:17) And I walked out. (23:18) And that was about the extent. (23:20) Extent of it.(23:22) We're gonna walk. (23:23) We're gonna take a little walk. (23:24) Come take a walk with me.(23:26) Let's flip the camera back. (23:27) Hey. (23:28) Here we go.(23:29) Okay. (23:29) That was the extent of my bagel on the Upper West Side. (23:32) I walked in.(23:33) And I walked out. (23:34) Not a very appetizing place. (23:36) If you know what I mean.(23:38) You know. (23:39) Two guys sort of sitting in there. (23:42) Not too much food.(23:43) Put on not too much food in the back. (23:45) Behind the counter. (23:46) But it is.(23:46) Oh. (23:46) It's just starting to rain. (23:48) I didn't bring my umbrella.(23:49) That is very annoying. (23:52) And I have the umbrella too. (23:53) But I left it someplace on purpose.(23:54) Not to carry it. (23:56) And now. (23:57) First thing I want to do is walk in the rain.(24:00) It's very annoying. (24:03) But it's only like a little bit of a drizzle. (24:05) You know.(24:06) But still. (24:08) Annoying. (24:08) Annoying as annoying could be.(24:10) Okay. (24:10) 86th Street. (24:11) We're going to walk over here.(24:14) So you guys can come on with me. (24:16) And we got to wait for the traffic light. (24:19) Something else annoying is waiting for the traffic light.(24:22) Also annoying. (24:26) So yeah. (24:26) I used to come here all the time.(24:29) Sure. (24:29) Sure. (24:29) So did anybody like that bagel shop? (24:31) I don't think anybody liked it.(24:32) Anybody saw that bagel shop? (24:33) Did you like it? (24:34) I don't think anybody here liked it either. (24:37) Thanks for the hearts. (24:38) Thanks for the hearts.(24:39) Please. (24:39) Please. (24:40) Please follow.(24:41) Please share. (24:42) Share it to your friends if they want to see what's going on in New York. (24:45) This is Upper West Side of Manhattan.(24:47) Very residential. (24:48) So you're not going to see like super busy streets over here. (24:51) Because this is residential.(24:52) By the way. (24:52) I got my new shoes on. (24:54) They're going to get wet.(24:55) But they're leather. (24:55) So it's not a really big deal. (24:59) Got Chase Bank right over here.(25:03) There's Chase. (25:06) And we're going to walk. (25:08) To Central Park.(25:09) Which is right in front of me. (25:11) Got to go another block. (25:12) To get to Central Park.(25:14) And you still have places like this. (25:15) You see repair shops. (25:17) You don't have that.(25:18) In a lot of places in the city anymore. (25:20) You know. (25:20) Make keys.(25:21) Hardware store. (25:23) Repair shops. (25:25) You know.(25:25) But on the West Side. (25:26) Upper West Side. (25:26) You have that kind of stuff.(25:28) So it's more like a. (25:30) Homey. (25:30) You know. (25:31) Get out of your apartment.(25:32) And like. (25:33) Man. (25:33) I can do anything I want.(25:34) I can get a bagel. (25:35) I can get a pizza. (25:35) I can get a coffee.(25:36) I can get a key made. (25:38) Right. (25:38) I can buy some.(25:40) Batteries. (25:40) Without having to go to CVS. (25:43) Right.(25:43) Just go to the local place. (25:45) Bagel shop isn't old enough. (25:47) Yeah.(25:47) Not old enough. (25:49) That's right. (25:50) Well.(25:50) Most of these bagel shops. (25:51) Around these neighborhoods. (25:53) They're not that old.(25:54) You know. (25:55) They open up. (25:55) They're fairly new.(25:57) But there's another one. (25:57) On the East Side. (25:59) That I like.(25:59) I've been there many times. (26:01) I guess I'll go over there. (26:03) You know.(26:03) The East Side is a little more pricey. (26:04) But. (26:04) What can you do? (26:05) Everything now is expensive.(26:06) You know. (26:07) I went to the cleaners. (26:08) And I bought a jacket.(26:09) Like a fleece. (26:11) And the fleece couldn't cost me more than 20 bucks. (26:13) Like a cheap fleece.(26:14) You just want to throw it on in the winter or something. (26:16) Or wear it around the house. (26:17) Or whatever.(26:19) Anyway. (26:19) I wore it on an airplane. (26:21) In the airport.(26:22) So I wanted to clean it. (26:23) So I brought it over to the cleaner. (26:25) They want 26 dollars to clean the fleece.(26:27) I said. (26:28) The whole fleece costs 20 bucks. (26:30) I'm going to pay more money to clean it.(26:33) Anyway. (26:33) I left it there. (26:34) Because it was dirty from the airplane.(26:38) So. (26:38) Let them clean it. (26:39) But you can't put that kind of thing in a washing machine.(26:41) Because the fleece. (26:42) It never dries. (26:43) You get that wet.(26:44) It just stays wet forever. (26:46) You know. (26:48) So.(26:51) And. (26:53) So we're coming up on Central Park here. (26:55) Right in front of me.(26:57) This is Central Park West. (27:00) Now Central Park West has very, very expensive buildings and apartments. (27:04) Very.(27:05) And there's a couple of buildings on here that are the most expensive. (27:08) In Manhattan. (27:10) I think one of them is 10.(27:12) Central Park. (27:14) 10 Central Park West if I remember. (27:16) It's towards the Columbus Circle.(27:19) I'm not walking down that far. (27:20) Columbus Circle is like 59th Street. (27:23) 58, 59, 60.(27:25) That's Columbus Circle. (27:26) We're all the way up on 86. (27:28) So I'm not walking down that way to show it to you.(27:31) But we're going to walk across the park. (27:34) On the transverse. (27:36) So I'll show you what that is.(27:37) Usually people, you see them in Central Park. (27:39) And I'm getting wet. (27:43) I know.(27:44) The weather report said it was not supposed to rain until 7 o'clock. (27:50) So I didn't bother walking with the umbrella. (27:53) Which is very annoying.(27:54) I could get on the subway, but that doesn't go where I want to go. (28:00) That's the problem with that. (28:02) You can get on the subway, but you got to get on the right subway.(28:05) Otherwise, guess what? (28:06) You're going to wind up in the wrong place. (28:08) This is the B and the C train. (28:11) I'm not going anywhere where that subway goes.(28:16) I used to take the subway everywhere. (28:18) It's the best way to get around Manhattan. (28:20) North, South, East, West.(28:22) Fastest, best. (28:24) Cheapest way to get around the city. (28:26) But.(28:28) Subway is a problem these days. (28:30) Unfortunately. (28:31) It is a problem.(28:32) And I am getting wet, let me tell you. (28:35) See the water? (28:38) On a raincoat? (28:39) That's how nice this coat is. (28:40) It's all bubbling up on the coat.(28:43) It's not cold. (28:44) It's actually kind of warm. (28:46) But I'm going to button it up just to keep my tie.(28:49) Sort of dry over here if I can. (28:53) And then we're going to walk across. (28:57) Can you shop at a deli for a piece of fruit? (29:00) Yeah, sure you can.(29:01) You can go to a deli, get a piece of fruit. (29:03) You can buy an apple, a banana. (29:05) You can buy a box of strawberries if you want.(29:08) You could also get the pre-cut fruit. (29:10) A lot of the delis you walk in, like the corner stores. (29:13) The little, little markets.(29:14) They have the pre-cut fruit. (29:16) So you can go in, you can get cantaloupe, honeydew, pineapple. (29:19) Already pre-cut.(29:20) You could open it up. (29:21) Get a plastic fork. (29:23) And you can walk on the street.(29:24) And you can eat it while you're walking. (29:27) So anybody could do that. (29:29) All those markets, they sell it.(29:30) So we're going to walk here on the transverse. (29:33) Right, we're walking on the transverse. (29:34) Now let me flip the camera a little bit.(29:37) You don't have to look at me, right? (29:38) You want to look at what's going on in front of me. (29:41) Right? (29:42) Okay, here we go. (29:43) This is the transverse.(29:43) So the cars cross Central Park. (29:47) Right here. (29:48) And then you got a sidewalk.(29:50) And then you could walk across the park where the cars are. (29:53) In case you don't want to walk actually inside the park. (29:56) Where all the trees and all the pathways and stuff.
