The temple and priests are central elements of the Bible, especially in the Old Testament. These elements didn't just vanish when the new covenant in Jesus came about, however. They are both still very real and important elements of our identity in Christ.
Instead of a physical building, the Bible says that our bodies are "living temples," or dwelling places, for God. He lives within us because we have been purified by the blood of Jesus. Because of His sacrifice, we can now enjoy unfettered access to God's Presence, and we can take that with us wherever we go.
We also have been given all the responsibilities and privileges of priests. We can represent God to the people, and intercede for people to God. It's an amazing gift in which we come to know God more, find fulfillment, and discover real and lasting community.
