Speaker 1:

The George Real Estate Group radio broadcast is celebrating 10 years on WHKP. The George Real Estate Group is celebrating 10 years on the radio, live every Thursday morning at 10.05 on WHKP 107.7 FM and AM 1450 and streaming online at WHkpcom. Each Friday morning at 845,. The George Real Estate Group presents the Hometown Hero Award to someone in our community who goes above and beyond to make our hometown a better place to live. Here's this week's Hometown Hero Show. It's 845 and time now for our George Real Estate Group Hometown Hero Salute. We do this every Friday morning and this week we're excited to bring in the folks from the Hendersonville Merchants and Business Association to talk about our recent Christmas parade. But we first got to talk to my buddy Noah about real estate activities at the Christmas season.

Speaker 2:

How you doing, noah, I'm doing well and Merry Christmas and just grateful to be here every Friday morning sponsoring the Hometown Hero series.

Speaker 1:

Well, we're glad to have you and thank you so much for making this happen. We get to meet some wonderful people in our community by doing our job on Friday, and it's a good job. I like it, I really do.

Speaker 2:

It's one of the highlights of my week, for sure, and grateful to be here with you. And just a quick snapshot on the local real estate market. The average single family home price in Henderson County over the last 12 months $549,000. Almost $550,000. It keeps going up.

Speaker 2:

It keeps going up. The other fascinating thing is, if you look at the last 12 months versus the previous 12 months, we've had 24 months of about the same demand around 120 single family homes a month selling, and that's even with the interest rates, that's even with the election, that's even with the storm, and we had a pause, of course, but the the numbers were on track this year to do as much as we did last year in henderson county. Henderson county's still maintaining great demand. We have low inventory levels only 429 active single-family homes in the market. So because of the supply and demand, that's why we continue to see prices go up.

Speaker 1:

Okay, so it's still happening. I'm sure you guys probably got some open houses and things going on during the holidays.

Speaker 2:

We have open houses for sure. We have an open house at a brand new listing on Wisdom Cove and Flat Rock. Beautiful, incredible home, completely renovated. When I say renovated, this home was only a few years old but they came in the new homeowners and took it to the next level New kitchen, new bathrooms. It's a spectacular house. 73 Wisdom Cove Open house this Sunday, 2 to 4.

Speaker 2:

Okay, so, we have wonderful listings and, by the way, year-round, even during the holidays, everyone I mean the market's still moving. We had contracts being negotiated yesterday. We I mean we have we had two closings already this week alone. I mean the market's still moving. And regardless of the economy, regardless of the, whatever holiday is going on, I mean the market's moving every single day here in Henderson County.

Speaker 1:

Well, I guess it's fun to show a house that's got Christmas trees and smells like gingerbread cookies and it's a good time to show a house.

Speaker 2:

It is a lot of fun to show houses when it's decorated. It's a wonderful time of the year and again it doesn't matter whether it's Christmas or not. Homes are still selling, buyers are buying, but it is a fun time to go look at homes. So we're glad to help any way. We can give us a call at 828-393-0134. Find us online at realestatebygregcom or stop by our office in Flat Rock. We're on Rainbow Row there, next to Flat Rock Bakery and Hubba Hubba Barbecue and the Wrinkled Egg. We're there on Rainbow Row, again, glad to help any way we can, but we're here every Friday morning sponsoring the Hometown.

Speaker 1:

Hero series. I'll put you on the spot. Did you get to see the Hintonville Christmas?

Speaker 2:

I was out of town. That's right.

Speaker 1:

You were, you were, yeah, yeah, and I don't know what my excuse was. I didn't get to see it either, but I know. I know because evidently I missed the biggest and the best one. The biggest and the best one. That's all the story of my life. Sandra Walker is here. Sandra, it was a great parade, wasn't it?

Speaker 3:

Yes, it was, and we sure hate that you missed it, because it was probably some of the prettiest floats we've ever had in our parade. Wow Would it be a nighttime. Everything was lit up to the theme light up the world. Yeah, Wonderful.

Speaker 1:

Well, this switch to the nighttime parade has been the right move, right the right, move the city after our first one. The city said we'll never go back to daytime After you see one parade at night. And I did see the first one where you all got it back going at night. And so how many entries did you have this year? 115.

Speaker 1:

115 entries 115 entries, is that the largest? Yes, yeah, and I guess the bottom line of the story is you know, when 115 people paid an entry fee, that created a nice little fund, didn't it?

Speaker 3:

Well, not everybody pays a fee. The fee is only charged to businesses.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

The churches, the nonprofits and all that kind of stuff are free to participate as well. As this year we invited the people working to help our county with healing repairs. They were free as well. It was to honor them this time absolutely, but still we did make a donation to the salvation army of two thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars and still is great.

Speaker 1:

Basically, you're going wonderful. I'm surprised.

Speaker 4:

That's how many of the people who did not have to pay made donations.

Speaker 1:

Oh, many, many of the churches went ahead and made donations, and the civic clubs yeah, yeah, yeah and uh, it all went to the salvation army and, as they help people in our community with christmas and and things, well, and I know this parade this year had even more meaning.

Speaker 2:

I mean after everything we've all walked through and with the hurricane, and to have our community come together.

Speaker 4:

It was huge. Everybody was just seemed so appreciative and so joyful. Just everybody was happy to have something to celebrate. I think everybody was looking for, and this gave them something to celebrate on, and they were so sweet. So, good, as we went down the road.

Speaker 3:

It brought our county together. Oh boy, we really appreciate everybody working together to help everybody, and that was the greatest part of it.

Speaker 1:

Well, tell us about some of the entries. There was a lot of creativity, wasn't there?

Speaker 3:

Oh, very much, and very unique and unusual. We give three trophies every year and the trophies are the best. Of theme Indyville Fire Department won that.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 3:

And they really lit up that fire department truck. It was so it was really pretty and they won that award. The most attractive was Habitat for Humanity, and I think they were building a house on that float, oh boy. And the most original was DLC Trading, and they had decorated a backhoe.

Speaker 1:

That was fabulous.

Speaker 3:

it was just so different and unique and that's what this whole parade everything was. You know, help with people, helping people, but to showcase, you know, what their equipment, that they used and what they did and that kind of stuff.

Speaker 4:

It was wonderful to see that, uh, I don't know if it was a crane or if it was the backhoe decorated and it was sticking way up in the air. Oh, okay, and I'm thinking okay, is Santa Claus coming down?

Speaker 1:

Well, Santa Claus was there.

Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, Santa Claus was there. He brings up the end of the parade and it's always super, super nice and the Merchants Association. We actually build that float ourselves and this is the second year we had our new reindeer that we had purchased and they actually moved and played music all the way down the street and that was wonderful.

Speaker 1:

That's fantastic. Is there a? I know we had a grand marshal for the Apple Festival. Do we have a grand marshal? Yes, we did Okay.

Speaker 3:

Richard Marnell from the Bat Cave Fire Department, and Richard has been with the Bat Cave Fire Department almost 50 years.

Speaker 1:

Wow.

Speaker 3:

And he'd been chief for 20 years. So we honored him for his years of service of doing that. And then co-grand marshal was the Bat Cave Fire Department and Girton Fire Department. We felt like they took the brunt of this storm.

Speaker 2:

They did truly.

Speaker 3:

And they really worked hard and we felt like they deserved to be co-grand marshals.

Speaker 1:

How sweet is that I?

Speaker 2:

mean significant, I mean, again, they were. I mean, you're right, the Chimney Rock and the Batcave and the Girton area, I it's. It's hard to comprehend, uh, what, what they've, what they've walked through and what they continue to walk through, but to have that moment of hope and and distraction and joy and see the community come together, I mean it's, it's a powerful thing I bet, when they came by, everybody yeah well, we were actually not in that part of the parade, but I think Bessie could see that the people really cheered for them.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they have and continue to be just giving everything all hands on deck down there, and we sure do appreciate them.

Speaker 2:

I noticed Jake Jarvis, who was our hometown hero with Precision Grading. He's been working every single day. I saw that he even came and participated in the parade and had his dump truck lit up. I saw pictures. He was literally working that day helping build bridges.

Speaker 3:

Again, he still came out to the parade we had one of our board members, stan rhodes, and his son andrew. They worked with us with the parade and helping us, and stan actually drove santa claus. But they've been out ever since that, that next day, building roads and repairing it, and they've not stopped. They have been every day. It's a daily thing it's again.

Speaker 2:

It's an incredible how our community stepped up. You said people helping people, neighbors helping neighbors, and I mean again, and it shows the generosity of our community, the resilience of our community, and we will build back. And, and it's a reminder for those listening, there are people still recovering and still trying to make sense of things and starting all the way over. And so the donations that you guys were able to raise for the Salvation Army go right back into this community.

Speaker 1:

Yeah Well, how do you? How do you top? I mean, what's happening next year? It's a mess.

Speaker 3:

That will happen at me. We just have to wait and see.

Speaker 1:

It'll be another nighttime parade.

Speaker 3:

Oh, it will always be a nighttime parade from now on.

Speaker 4:

And we truly lit up the world this time.

Speaker 1:

Lit up the world.

Speaker 4:

It was light up my world, but we lit it. The community lit up their world.

Speaker 1:

Well, it takes a lot of people to make this happen. Now I know you wanted to say thank you to a lot of people.

Speaker 3:

Yes, well, blue Ridge Radio Group, we couldn't do this parade without them. They're wonderful. They're the ones that do the lineup and they're the ones that help people get out on time and that kind of stuff. The police department oh, if the police department didn't participate, this would never happen. They were wonderful again, Right.

Speaker 4:

And I'm going to let Bessie and Sheila tell some more on the others. The city in Hendersonville was good, really good in public works. They were all just amazing.

Speaker 1:

They usually close off the street about 3 o'clock that afternoon and then next morning traffic as usual. I mean they move right in, get it done.

Speaker 4:

They're fantastic with the way they move and Public Works cleans it up so fast. They do such a great job.

Speaker 1:

Okay, now for professional parade givers. You all are. You will have another one on July 4th, right. Yeah, and it's sponsored by the July 4th, right yeah.

Speaker 2:

And it's sponsored by the. I mean it's the merchants.

Speaker 3:

Hendersonville Merchant Business Association.

Speaker 2:

Let's talk about the Hendersonville Merchants Association and all three of you have been on the board.

Speaker 3:

You're the board, the main three. I'm president Bessie's vice president, sheila's, our secretary, so we're the ones that put it on. We have help from other members that help us.

Speaker 2:

But I mean, that's not the only thing you guys do year round it almost takes us six months to do this parade.

Speaker 3:

I bet.

Speaker 4:

The fun thing is, as soon as we finish with the Christmas parade, they start asking for 4th of July applications. This year I had six requests for applications on the 4th of July for the Christmas parade. We also co-sponsored Business Morning Update, which we just had this week, and that's the second Tuesday of every second Wednesday of every month and this is free. You come exchange your business cards with other people, coffee and donuts, and we have three speakers, and this time it was speakers talking about how the community and their organizations had recovered from Helene.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, you come and visit with us here at the radio station every month. About that. There's so many things that the Merchants and Business Association is involved in. There's a website I bet people can go to. Do you have the address, Sandra?

Speaker 3:

It's nchmbacom or hendersvillemerchantandbusinessassociationcom. We have actually two at this point. It lists all of our members and some of our activities and membership. You can get your membership application off of the website as well.

Speaker 1:

Well, thank you all so much from the bottom of our hearts. We felt what you put together. It was great for our community. Noah, thank you for sponsoring our Georgia Real Estate Group Hometown Hero Series every week.

Speaker 2:

Absolutely. Again, thank you so much. Have a wonderful day. We'll see you next week. Thank you so much.
