Uh all right, welcome back into another episode of Popcorn Talks. It's been a minute, but in today's episode, we're gonna get into our most anticipated movies of 2026. Talk a little bit about what we've watched recently, and at the end, we're gonna be drafting office characters to put together a basketball lineup. You're not gonna want to miss it, so make sure to tune in to the show. Here it comes. All right, so we're about three, four, well, four months. I'm stupid. We're about four months into 2026. The last podcast we did, we talked about what are you looking like that for? Are we not four months into 2026?
SPEAKER_02I think technically we're well we've done three months.
SPEAKER_00Three, four months. In the fourth month. We're in the fourth month. April Fools. I was right the first time, yeah. April Fools, guys. Um, I never claimed to be smart, but anyway, the last podcast we talked about um kind of everything we're we're looking forward to. So in the we also haven't posted a podcast in quite a while, so sorry guys, but in that time, is there anything that you've watched? TV show, movies, doesn't have to be new though. Is there anything in this since the last podcast that you've watched that you kind of want to talk about? I know Scrubs came out, but that's something you're excited about.
SPEAKER_02I think Scrubs has always been like an honorable mention, top five for me. Uh like not good enough to put in the top five, or at least uh I think one of those shows that is just a happy, fun show. And I don't know if it's one of those like storytelling shows that you're like, okay, this this deserves a spot. But uh I don't know if everybody knows how Scrubs ended. So in my opinion, it has one of the greatest serious finales uh of any show I've watched. However, they came back and later added another season to the end of it, and it's wildly known as a terrible season.
SPEAKER_00So did they retcon that? Like is it still part of the lore or are they pretending like it didn't happen?
SPEAKER_02Uh the new show, they're pretending like none of it like it didn't happen at all. Okay, so if they if it did happen, they don't they're not acknowledging it, if that makes sense. Like they're not not there's nothing that says it didn't happen, but there's also nothing that's like pointing to it happening. And so um basically the new uh season, uh there if you go to Disney, it's a whole different like category. It doesn't even come with Scrubs. So like they have Scrubs and they have like Scrubs now.
SPEAKER_00Wait, Scrubs is on Disney, is it ABC?
SPEAKER_02It's ABC. So there's two there's two different um so like if you want to watch the original scrubs, it's all put in one category, and then you have to go to a different whole screen to watch the new Scrubs. Uh and so interesting. I really enjoy it. It's it's been a lot of fun. I think I've watched all but this last episode. It comes down on Wednesdays. Um, so it's been it's been really good. I I think the character development in the sense of they're around 15 years older than when you last saw them. Um it does a good job in the first pilot episode to catch you back up to speed about where everybody's at, what everybody's doing. And scrub is just a fun, it's a fun show. Like they keeps everything lighthearted. It's enough of like they do enough medical stuff to make it make sense as a medical show. And so they're still doing things like saving lives and doing transplants and whatever. All the good stuff, you know. All the good stuff, but it's obviously it's obviously like that's a gum. Like it's obviously comedy, it's obviously lighthearted. Um, all but maybe one or two characters from the original show are in it. Um and those two characters are at least mentioned so that you know that they're why they're not there. So it's a lot of fun. I really enjoy it. Uh, I think ABC has done a great job. I think Disney has had their hands in it somewhat, but I think it's so funny uh the show came back because for so many years the two main guys, uh Turk and JD, were on the Verizon commercials, and so you saw them all the time. And I'm like, what are they doing? Why would you so do so many years of like these commercials? Uh not Verizon, sorry, T Mobile. My bad, Verizon and T Mobile. Um, but you just kept seeing them around and around and around. You're like, okay, like, are we making a comeback here? What are we doing? And then the show pops up, and you're like, okay, this makes a lot more sense, and honestly, pretty smart by by both uh Disney and ABC and T-Mobile. Um, because they're the guys that are like shouting it from the rooftops. Like, do you have you seen those commercials, the T-Mobile ones?
SPEAKER_00Um, I mean, yeah, but I didn't think of it as Scrubs. I just know him from like other stuff.
SPEAKER_02Uh well, I mean, I think a lot of people know Turk or the guy, the actor that plays him from like from Why Can I Think of the Movie? Remember the Titans. Remember the Titans. There we go. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Um, I mean that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_00But you also know him from Rem Remember the Titans, surely. I do. Surely you saw that first, too.
SPEAKER_02I think so.
SPEAKER_00See, there's no way you didn't watch Remember the Titans when you were like a little kid.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Probably, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Remember the Titans is goaded. I think it's one of the more movies. It's also Disney, so.
SPEAKER_02Um, but we'll have to do our top sports movies of all time, see if it falls on the top ones. But that would be tough.
SPEAKER_00That's definitely a topic for another day, but just off the top of my head, I think it is.
SPEAKER_02I think it's probably top five.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think it is, but I don't know, there's a lot of good ones. I'm also basketball like heavy. So there's a few basketball movies. Yeah, well, it also depends on how you want to categorize stuff, because there's some movies that are, you know, it's about baseball, but it's not.
SPEAKER_02Is the same a lot of a baseball movie?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, of course. I mean, that that but that's one of those that like you know, it's but I guess all movies are like that, right? Like Moneyball is obviously about baseball, but it it's also in the words of Lewis Litt, it's not about baseball, it's about math. I mean, and a lot of people view it that way.
SPEAKER_01I don't think you have my point is litt is. Culture yourself.
SPEAKER_00If you don't know who Lewis Litt is, you probably not listen to this podcast, but um I mean you yeah, I'm assuming anybody listening to this podcast is a TV head. Um but sure. I I think um like my my my point is that I think some movies you have to really enjoy the sport to watch it, and some you don't. I don't think you have to know or like baseball at all to enjoy Moneyball. I think to enjoy the sand lot, you do personally.
SPEAKER_02All right, off top of your head, what's your number one sports movie of all time?
SPEAKER_00Coach Carver.
SPEAKER_02See, mine is actually also a basketball movie, but mine's Hoosier's.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Hoosier's.
SPEAKER_02I love Hoosiers. Um, but besides Crubs, I I've actually gotten into watching The Voice, which isn't really a TV show, and it's not something that we usually would cover. But but let's talk about this for a second because I think there's a whole niche of like live television shows or pre-recorded television shows that are intriguing.
SPEAKER_00And it's not that are ruining cinema and film, but continue.
SPEAKER_02I mean, maybe, but it's I mean, the the voices on their like 26th season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I do. I'll let you get back to it. But when when when parents get mad that their kids are mindlessly scrolling and they call it brain rot and stupid and it's melting their brain, parents, you're doing the same thing with all of this, all of this BS. Now, I stuff like the voice and competition shows are a little bit better, but when you get into all the reality, keeping up with the Kardashians, Love Island, like all that BS, you guys, it's ridiculous. You're rotting your own brain on purpose, but continue.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I have some thoughts about that too. Um, especially like the Mormon Wives shows and secret life or more.
SPEAKER_00Don't be wrong. I've been sucked in before. I have been sucked into a entire season of The Bachelor, and once you start watching, it is very good. Like it's it's they they make it addicting. It's like eating junk food, but you it's awful. It's it's also ruining everything that's beautiful about TV and film. I'm gonna stop. Continue.
SPEAKER_02You're more than welcome to rant. But yeah, I've been watching The Voice. It and I think for me growing up, like I think we watched a lot I watched a lot of those shows. So I watched The Voice, I watched American Idol, America's Got Talent, uh, The Mass Singer, stuff like that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and I forgot how much I enjoy it. It's almost like you're turning your brain off. Like yeah, it's a hundred percent what it is. It's numbing, but it's also like you get to appreciate some talent, and that's cool. Uh so I've I've been watching that a lot um with my mom, funny enough.
SPEAKER_00So that's been our kind of like that's where it has value, right? When you're watching with the family and you're all discussing it, and then you sit around and you eat and you talk about it. I think that's where it has more value. It it's when you binge it that that makes it appeal.
SPEAKER_02And having a friend on it, so like shout out Houston Kelly. Uh he was on the show, made top like 18, so that's pretty cool. Uh, and so it gave me a reason to watch it again. But besides those two things, recently I don't think there's anything necessarily new that I've watched. I've gotten back into watching uh I started Brooklyn 99 again, um, which I've told you you need to need to watch that one too. Um I'm excited about the summer because I think for both of us, uh me mostly, it gives me more time to like do some rewatches or do some uh new shows. And yeah, I know we have some on the list that you've given me that I have to we've got to watch, but we also I don't think we've had a podcast since the end of a Knight of Seven Kingdoms, right? We both watched that together. That was uh 2026 watch.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we haven't had one in a while. So yeah, we watched Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but um I've also since I don't so the last one never actually never got uploaded to Apple, it only I think went to Spotify um for whatever reason. So I don't even know if anybody listening heard us talk about our Pixar stuff. So I've been on a Pixar Um kind of journey trying to watch all of them. I did just watch Hoppers, and that's something you haven't been able to watch. I'm excited about watching it. Yeah, we probably need to go watch it in theaters before it's out. Um, but that one was good. I actually I was surprised to see so much discourse online about it because a lot of it it's pretty polarizing. It's got like a the IMDB reviews are fine, it's like a 7.6. Um, or last time I checked it was, but it's been really polarizing online, and what I'm seeing is younger people, not like kid kids, but like teenagers, um, and like kind of younger 20s people didn't like it at all, despised it, thought it was like not funny, thought it was stupid, thought the jokes didn't land. And I'm seeing a pretty clear divide, like people above about 25 and little kids all loved it. Um, so overall it it's pretty well received. But I was surprised to see that that age didn't like it because I was laughing the entire time. I it's I thought it was hilarious. Um shout out our buddy Matthew, Matthew Black, he uh is a pretty harsh critic on most things, and he loved it as well. He gave it an eight. Um, I gave it an 8.5. I but I I loved it, I thought it was hilarious. There was a lot of kind of jokes that you had to understand pop culture to understand. So I I think you know, I think there's this age group that really only enjoys like super brain rot jokes, and I think they struggled with that personally. I think they found it like what they call cringe, you know, they call everything cringe. That's what they that that's the struggle I think that that age group had with it, but um it's whatever. I thought it was good. Um, other than that, I've watched Coco. Um, I've watched Ratatouille, Wally. I think we actually watched uh Yeah, we had a couple that oh yeah, we we watched um Soul Together, we watched Onward Together, yep, which I mean, good god, both of those are just out of this world. Onward has a chance, it's up there with Bug's Life for me as the most underrated Pixar movie. I still think I'd go with Bugs Life, but I really enjoyed Onward. That's the first time we'd seen it. For sure. Um you know, I've watched you know quite a few of those, but other than that, I'm trying to think. It's really been I've I've just been kind of re-watching stuff, biting my time. Um, I've been going through suits again. I finished the office. Oh, and I finished Game of Thrones again. So I've been doing a lot of rewatches. Uh but I did watch Game of Thrones on purpose. So I did that because now I need to go back and watch House of the Dragon because I only watched season one, season two came out a couple years ago, and season three comes out in the summer. So I did that purposefully so that I could go back through and watch everything. I'll probably exclude Knight of the Seven Kingdoms in that because we just finished it. But um, and um yeah, that's pretty much all I've been up to. But me and you have got to get to the theaters because Project Hell Mary is out, and the reviews on that out of this world, I've seen people comparing it to Interstellar, which really I don't know. I don't know. I I don't know if it's just because it's a space movie. I I don't know. I we'll see. If it's anywhere near Interstellar, then I will be just shocked. But uh speaking of Interstellar, Christopher Nolan has another movie coming out for the first time in four years. So, but she here's what I'm gonna do real quick. I'm gonna run through some of these upcoming releases, and I want you to give me a number on a scale of one to ten of how hyped you are to watch it. Okay, and uh I'll get the say I'll do the same, but I'm I'm gonna I'm gonna run through these really quick. Um, actually, it might not be really quick. I don't know why I said that. I'm just gonna run through them. So coming out actually today, I guess they wanted to release on April Fool's um, which date of recording April Fools, you guys will be listening to this probably on the second, so we won't be getting you with anything. Um but the Super Mario Galaxy movie. Um so give me a one through ten. How hyped you are for that?
SPEAKER_02I haven't seen the first Super Mario, uh, for being very honest. So um, however, uh the previews look pretty good. I would probably put it at like a seven or a six or a seven um of excitement of that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay. I I think I'm a little higher, probably in the 7-8 range, uh, just because it looks great, and I think they're expanding on the Mario universe. I can just do like imagine at the end of it, they I don't know, like maybe Mario gets like a letter in the mail inviting him to a to like a competition where he's fighting other characters, and it's like a setup for you know, you know, or like an invitation to a mansion, and it's a setup for like they could set up like so many different Mario games. I'm really excited for that.
SPEAKER_02But I love Chris Pratt, I don't think he's in a movie that I've disliked.
SPEAKER_00So which all right, best Chris Pratt movie go. Let's just off the top, off the dome. Whenever you're gonna say you're wrong because you're forgetting something that is in, I'm already telling you.
SPEAKER_02Uh I mean, everything in me just wants to say Guardians of the Galaxy.
SPEAKER_00I mean, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Any any Marvel movie, I'd I'd probably put it there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because he's in so many Marvel movies. Yeah. Because Guardians is just in them. Uh, I think just to be cute, I'll say Moneyball because he plays Sky Hamburg in Moneyball. And that was before I was spaceman. That's before I even knew who Chris Proud was. He was so young back then.
SPEAKER_02Um also shout out um Jurassic Park, Jurassic World.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's in Jurassic World, which I've never seen any of those.
SPEAKER_02So he's also in that one movie that I still haven't seen it fully. Uh, or if I have, I don't remember.
SPEAKER_00Oh, the one in the spaceship where they're all like frozen or whatever. Yeah, I haven't seen that. That's uh who's is that Jennifer Lawrence?
SPEAKER_02It's Jennifer Lawrence, yeah. It's is it Passengers? Is that what it's called?
SPEAKER_00I think so. I've never seen them. Um, I've seen like I you see where we differ is sometimes TikTok clips come up on our feed with of like movies, and I'll watch like five seconds and swipe because I don't want to watch movies on there, and that you will click on their profile and then just watch a bunch of them. And I can't do that. So but I've seen I've seen like that one clip that's like really famous where he's like talking to the bartender who's like a fake person or whatever. Um, alright, I'm gonna keep going. There's a lot of movies on here that I don't recognize, so I'm just gonna keep it to the ones that I do recognize. Um, well, great pod here. I really should have written these down. A lot of movies are coming out. I mean, I'm on April 24th and I've already gone through about 50 of them. Nice. Okay, so alright, here's the next one. Animal Farm, which is an animated version of um Animal Farm, which you know I don't know how else they would do that. I guess it makes sense. But go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Is it is it Gaiton that's in that? Isn't it one of the stranger things, kids?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Gate Madarazzo is playing. He's playing a character, I think, named Lucky, who's not actually in the book. It's like added for the movie. So I don't know how big of a role he's gonna have because he's not even listed. Like if you look at IMDB and it lists like the big actors, he's not even in that. Um but it does have Jim Parsons, which I believe that's Sheldon from Big Bang Theory. Uh Seth Rogan, Woody Harrelson, and uh, you know, a few more. But uh alright, one through ten.
SPEAKER_02It sounds like a good cast. I just based on that alone, I think it has to be like six six to eight range, like you avoided the seven. I avoid the seven to seven.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'll probably go five right down the middle, personally. I I read the book um when I was younger. I it's been a while, yeah. I just I don't know. I guess we'll see if they actually stick to like what it's supposed to be, or if they put their own um you know they will kind of thoughts on on uh we'll we won't get into that, but we'll see if it's actually sticks to the source material. I think it they're gonna go more for um you know it being funny, but I guess we'll see. Wait, why is alright? We'll keep going. There is a Mortal Kombat Mortal Kombat movie coming out. It's Mortal Kombat 2. I never saw the first one. I'm assuming you didn't either, so I'll shout it out, but we'll uh we'll skip over that one.
SPEAKER_02I also didn't play the games a lot, so really okay.
SPEAKER_00I I didn't play them a time, but I played like the original one on um like a stand-up arcade game, and then I think I played, I don't know which one it was. I played one on Xbox One, or no, it was a PlayStation because I played with Gunner. Um shout out Gunner, our friend. But I'm kind of going through these. There's a lot of stuff going on. All right, here we go. May 22nd, Star Wars, The Mandalorian, and Grogu.
SPEAKER_02You know, I I've kind of stopped with the Star Wars franchise. I think the last one I watched was the seventh one.
SPEAKER_00Um, which yeah, we're we're in the same boat. We're in the same exact boat.
SPEAKER_02I I'm you know, my thoughts on that were like, yeah, that's literally, I think, what I thought was okay. However, the the spin-off stuff, um it doesn't look bad. I mean, the the um I know the Mandalorian was really big. Uh that was a TV show, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Mandalorian and Or was the last one that everyone just raved about. Um, there's been quite a few movies too.
SPEAKER_02So I think my hot take with this is that Star Wars needs to be Star Wars and everything else needs to be everything else, if that makes sense. So like I I want this to be two separate categories of what it is. I I think one through six is Star Wars. Everything else after is something else. I I just it it feels like a franchise.
SPEAKER_00We're gonna make people mad, but you want to hear a secret? I agree.
SPEAKER_02It's just the truth. I mean, in reality, like Marvel, everything can be broken up into sections with Marvel, like phases or whatever. Like same with DC, like DC stuff, like I'm fine with how it's carried on. Batman stuff, I'm cool with how it's carried on. You can break it up into everything, like even just like eras. With this, it feels like they've tried so hard to just continue this like ongoing timeline. And I'm like, and you know me, I enjoy timelines. I think prequels should be watched first. Like, we've talked about this, but like I won't bring up the argument, but like I think they should just stop. Like, they should make this should be a whole different thing. And if you consider it a whole different thing, then I'm cool with it. And I'm excited, I'm like a six to go watch it. But if you're telling me this is like a continuation or add it on to the timeline of what it is, give me like a three.
SPEAKER_00So um, I mean, this is the Mandalorian, so it's it's Pedro Pascal as The Mandalorian. It's it's the same, it's just a movie for it. But so I'll go a step further. Um, I'm gonna go one for it, by the way, because I haven't seen the Mandalorian and I haven't kept up with Star Wars. So it just is what it is. I'll take it a step further. Um, I think you even have to split one, two, three, or four, five, and six, and then one, two, and three. Um, even though they're more closely. Um, that that is Star Wars. I agree with you there. I think you have to split those because I think one, two, and three are fine movies. I think three is really, really good. I think Revenge of the Sith is peak cinema. I I remember watching as a kid in theaters. I I love it. I think one and two are just kind of whatever. I think four, five, and six all three are cinema defining, world altering, like some of the greatest movies of all time. It defined a decade, it defined an era, it changed cinema forever. And I think comparing it's the prequels to that is just kind of silly. Although I loved Revenge of the Sith, and I had fun watching the other two. I think the plot in those three, if we're just talking like straight storyline and not how good the movies were, I 100% agree because that is the same story. Like it's it is like you it just leads like flawlessly right into it. I did watch Rogue One actually, which was um pretty good because that's in between episodes three and four. It's showing how they got the plans to understand how the Death Star could be blown up. So that's fine too. I actually enjoyed that. I know Obi-Wan is also set in between those, so uh I probably would enjoy that, but I think I'm with you. Um, I guess we'll keep going after we kind of crapped on um Star Wars there for a second. Another one for you. We don't have to do this one, it's gonna be a horror film, but they're they're making a movie on the back rooms, Bushy. They're making a movie on the back rooms, so I don't know if they're gonna like make it kind of like I think it's gonna be just straight up horror, like it's gonna be terrifying. Um, because if you've ever seen anybody playing like the back rooms, it it is it's awful. So I'm not even gonna give a number for that because I don't really do scary movies unless it's like psycho thriller type scary. Um so I'll move on. If there's anything I'm skipping to, um we'll stop there. All right, disclosure day. That's another big one. That is a Steven Spielberg movie starring Emily Blunt, Josh O'Connor, Eve Houston, and McKenna Bridger. It's a um I think the plot of this, let me check it just to make sure. I think it's yeah, it's the it's the day that they basically disclose to the world that aliens are real, and I think I think it's gonna be kind of a psycho sci-fi thriller of people getting invaded. Like it's like an alien invasion movie.
SPEAKER_02Um, so I guess yeah, I will say, like, I think that's a genre that in the last year I've enjoyed more than I thought I would. Um especially some movies that have fallen into that category, like weapons.
SPEAKER_00Um we watched uh didn't we watch something recently?
SPEAKER_02Oh, you watched Sinners, which Sinners would be in that category, yeah, yeah, for sure. But even like um, I mean, we rewatched um uh The Torture Report. We rewatched um Oh, what's it? Um pull up my list. I don't know my Sakentos.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know which Torture Report is.
SPEAKER_02We watched that together.
SPEAKER_00No, Shaw Shank, I've never been torture report. I have not seen that. We did watch Shaw Shank. I have no clue what you're talking about. You might have watched it with Matt.
SPEAKER_02No. Memento, Shutter Island, all those movies we I've watched for the first time in the last.
SPEAKER_00I forgot those your first times, yeah. Yeah, so you were interested in for Nolan.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I enjoy that category, and so anything that kind of falls in that, I will be probably more excited to see. So give me like a 7.5.
SPEAKER_00I'm right there with you. 7.58. Uh it being uh Spielberg makes me kind of excited to see him back to the screen or you know, back directing. So that should be good, right there with you. Um, I the next up is pretty um all over the place in terms of online. So Toy Story 5.
SPEAKER_02So to be very honest, I haven't seen Toy Story 4. Um, okay. I I'm a very firm believer that Toy Story should have ended at 3. Um we've we've had some hate. I've been some I've been hating today. I'm hating all these franchises, but basically, I I know people love four. I know four is Herald, it's a great movie. I think it should have ended at three.
SPEAKER_00Um I think that's a valid take. I do think you have to watch four though, because I I think it's one of those things Bushy has like a bird flying around his room. What what do you think?
SPEAKER_02There's actually a big A wasp flying around my room. Oh that I don't know where it's that's the second time. I got stung by a wasp the other day. Uh woke up, grabbed my phone, and I or grabbed my glasses. I thought I pinched myself, and it was a wasp, a wasp that stung me, and then like stung me in the leg. Oh I don't know where they're coming from. I sorry. That's just a yeah, bird moment, squirrel. But it thing the sucker is like around here, it's like the size of my fist.
SPEAKER_00All right, we'll we'll be done soon and we can eradicate the problem.
SPEAKER_02Please.
SPEAKER_00Um, but I took story five. I think that's a fair um take, by the way, that it should have ended after three. I think a lot of people think that, especially the way three ended. Um but I think it's one of those things that both things can be true. It, you know, you can say it should have ended, but then when you watch four, it was good. Like yeah, it's Pixar, man. And this one, I like the plot, I really do. And I I think it has a chance to be better than four. I don't think it's gonna touch two um or the original. I don't think it's possible. Um, but you know, continue.
SPEAKER_02No, it just I mean, to me, it just feels like one of those things that we're yeah, I mean, it's probably gonna be good. I there's not many Pixar movies that are bad. Yeah, but it feels like it's uh not a money grab, but a money grab. Like we're just bringing another one out.
SPEAKER_00I would agree with most of the Disney movies, but here my thought on Toy Story is that I so I was ne just to preface, I I haven't been like a Toy Story kid. Like I I enjoyed it, I liked it, but you know, most of my friends were. I would say most kids our age were just massive Toy Story kids. And I think if they can produce something high quality, um back in the Toy Story genre for kids who grew up in a completely different age, they have different they they just have completely different uh obstacles that they're facing at such a young age. And I think if they can make something that has the same impact on kids today, then that's awesome. Like continue doing that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that that's my here's my question. Um would it make a difference instead of it being Toy Story 5, if it was name something? So instead of us numbering all these movies as if they were like supposed to be in order, if it was almost like Star Wars where it's like a new like a new hope or a whatever, like if they had a name to the movie, like if it was Toy Story uh Gen Z or whatever, you know, something stupid, would that would that make a difference? And to me, I think it would, because I I don't I feel like if you're gonna number something, it's gotta be making sense chronologically. And if we're if we're talking about having a new movie for a new generation, why number it?
SPEAKER_00Why not making it this is chronological in the story? Well, I know it's chronological in the story, but I'm saying like I don't think you can watch this without watching the other ones. I mean, I mean kids can because they're not they're just gonna watch it and think cute stuff like super like little kids, but no, I mean, because they wouldn't make any sense why Woody is gone, and like you've seen the trailer, like why how he came back. Like you I think you have to know the story to watch it. I don't think you can just watch it alone.
SPEAKER_02Um I haven't seen the trailer, so I don't I I have seen parts of the trailer, I haven't seen the full trailer.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Well, it's I don't know. I the because the full trailer just came out a couple weeks ago, I believe. And it kind of answered a couple questions for me. So I'm actually pretty excited about this. I'm gonna give it like an eight. Did you I don't think you gave a number?
SPEAKER_02I would still give it like a seven or eight. I think I think Pixar movies like you were talking about Hotbirds earlier, like that's like high eight or nine for me that I want to see it. So anything Pixar is gonna be high on my list.
SPEAKER_00So oh, another one that already came out. Uh I'll go Project Hell Mary.
SPEAKER_02I I I don't even know what you're talking about, if we're being honest.
SPEAKER_00Wow, ladies and gentlemen, we are professionals over here. It's probably gonna be there's so many good movies coming out this year, so it's hard to tell. But you know, at the end of every year, you kind of had the movies that define the year. It's definitely gonna be in that category. It's uh Srian Gosling. It's been kind of my entire 4U page on every single platform where I have completely different algorithms, so I just kind of assumed everybody was seeing it.
SPEAKER_03I'm looking at it now.
SPEAKER_00It came out I think like March, uh I don't know, sometime in March, maybe.
SPEAKER_02But it's got an 8.4 on IMBD.
SPEAKER_00Yep. IMBD, huh?
SPEAKER_02But a 95% on rotten tomatoes, that's kind of crazy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean it's been really well received. I'm a 10 at that, or I'll go nine.
SPEAKER_02I mean, just looking from this right now, I'd probably give it a little lower. Because I'm not huge on like sci-fi stuff, but it looks cool.
SPEAKER_00I mean, you love Star Wars and you love Interstellar.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Star Wars is nostalgia.
SPEAKER_00But yes. Still sci-fi. Um all right. Next up we'll go Supergirl coming out on June 26th, starring Millie Alcock with her. She's been blowing up recently. I when I first saw her on House of the Dragon, I I thought she should have won some awards, but she didn't, but um go ahead.
SPEAKER_02Uh let me see how to word this. I think it's gonna be a good movie. I don't seeing the preview of it, I think we saw it the last time we were in theaters, the preview of it. Um, I wasn't super pumped with what the preview looked like. Um I think they have a real opportunity to stack on to how good Superman was. Yeah, Superman we I think we both agreed, or at least it was in our top two or three uh for both of us in our rankings of last year movies. I think it was number one for me. Uh it might have been number two, but it was up there.
SPEAKER_00Um it was like five or six for me, but yeah. Okay, yeah, we both loved it.
SPEAKER_02So great movie. Um, and so they have an opportunity here to build on that. I wasn't impressed with the preview, but I think her as a character uh is gonna be good. So my excitement level is probably at like an eight.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And that hurts me because I I don't like DC stuff normally. So we'll see what happens.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll see. Um, yeah, Superman, I would say I've just like you, I think it's raised my excitement level for it because it was surprisingly really good. I do think that people are kind of expecting it to be made in the same vein. And I think it's gonna be the complete antithesis to what Superman was because as a character, they are opposite, and I think this movie's gonna be a little bit more probably raunchy, probably a little bit more comedic forward. Um, I I'm at like a six for this one, just you know, just because it's super girl. I like Millie Alcock, and I'm intrigued more than anything. But uh we'll move on. So the next one is we're gonna have to like kind of run through these a little quicker. The next one is super I I don't know what to think about it. I so it's the live action version of Moana, which is coming out on July 10th. That movie I feel like we just announced. Yeah, he's he's repriving he will be Maui. Have you seen the trailer? Dude, you gotta you gotta keep up with this stuff, man. So the trailer's actually really good. It it looks like a pretty close one-for-one remake, is what it looks like. I think the casting of Moana is fantastic. I mean, the casting of Maui might be the greatest live action casting we ever see because he literally played Maui in the original, so I don't know how you can get better than that. And they literally built Maui based off of The Rock, so yeah. I I think it's perfect. I think the trailer was really good. It's it looks funny, but um, I guess go ahead and give your uh your hype hype meter.
SPEAKER_02My hype meter is pretty low. I I'm not a fan of live action remakes of movies that I actually enjoy, and so give me like a three or a four.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and it could be incredible, it could be awesome, and I could love it, but yeah, I think I'm at like a four as well, but it's not because I love Moana, and the story of Moana is still going on. I mean, Moana 2 just came out a couple years ago. I I don't yeah, I don't know. That see, this feels like a pure money grab to me. You're talking about money grabs, this feels like a money grab. Actually, it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_02I think we've swung in we've just swung a miss on so many of these live action shows. Like so many have been bad.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and I'm just I'm not yeah it also it's introducing people to some of the greatest storytelling we've ever had, and it's introducing the to people to it in ways that are they're not as good as the original. Like we have a mutual friend who doesn't like animation for whatever reason, or doesn't really love animation, so all he's ever seen are the live action versions of these movies because he've used the other ones as kiddie and silly, and to me, that is just it's cheapening it, it's cheapening the plot like a hundred percent. Like you don't get it's also like I we'll we'll move on because I'll go down a whole rabbit hole on how I feel about I think animation is a far superior way to tell a story because there's so many things we're not limited by. I understand why you'd want live action, I understand it, but it's some of these movies are just tough. Um, this is a money grab, though. I'm pretty low, but I'm sure it'll be good. Uh, next up is probably the most excited I've been about a movie probably since Avengers Endgame. Uh personally, is uh The Odyssey. And that comes out July 17th. So it's got Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Hathaway, Robert Pattinson. I'm just looking here, and it doesn't even have half like the the cast for this has to be an all-timer. Like it's yeah, Matt, like I said, those four I just said Zendea, John Bernthal, um Mia Goth. It's just Elliot Page, it's just so many people. Um, and this doesn't even have a few of the people I know that are in it. Um, but yeah, I guess go ahead and give your uh your number for this. It's probably mine.
SPEAKER_02It's pretty high. I mean, probably like a 9.5. I think there's other movies. There's like specifically one movie that I'm more excited about this year. Yeah. But it's probably like number two or number three on that list.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. There's a 10 for me. I mean, it's one of the greatest stories ever told, along with my probably my favorite director um in Christopher Nolan, and I like the cast. I I I know a lot of people are worried that they're gonna like ruin it, but because I know it is a very a lot of people like saw some of the previews and they saw the way some people looked, and kind of how you know they have new age actors who look a certain way, and they're they're kind of upset about how it's gonna go. I there's nothing I've seen there's nothing that Christian Nolan's ever done that leads me to believe he's going to let me down. So yeah, we'll see. Now, because it's a 10 on my meter, it has such high expectations that you know, even like an eight out of ten, I have to be really careful with how I view it because I'm expecting a nine or more. So, but I think I'm pretty self-aware. The problem is that most people aren't, so that could end up wrecking how it's perceived.
SPEAKER_02Could be the Stranger Things finale conundrum.
SPEAKER_00True. I think, yeah, true. I mean, pr similar. I hope it doesn't wow. I hope it doesn't compare to that in terms of how it's received. But yeah, no, I'm super excited about it. Uh last time Anolan movie came out, I was super excited, and I was Oppenheimer, and it actually blew me away. So uh next up is uh Spider-Man Brand New Day, which was probably what you were talking about. Um, yep. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_02That's not what I was talking about, but yes, um, very excited about it. I love I we can have this argument another day about who's the best Spider-Man, but I think Tom Holland is a movie away from being the best Spider-Man. And so uh the previews for this look awesome. I'm excited about yeah, you can you can be whatever right now, but I want to take you right now.
SPEAKER_00I have to thank you, dude. You just probably got us at least 10,000 followers, just hate followers. You just we just went viral. That's unbelievably insane.
SPEAKER_02That's fine, it can be insane, it's true. Uh, that's how I believe at least. Um, and if for all you Andrew Garfield hate uh lovers out there, you can hop on.
SPEAKER_00Andrew Garfield was an incredible Spider-Man. It's not his fault, his movies sucked. Also, TASM 2 was good. They make Spider-Man sucked, it was awful, but he was a great Spider-Man.
SPEAKER_02Um, so back to my point. Tom Holland, I think, is a really good movie away from being uh the best, in my opinion. Um, so I'm hoping this turns out that way. I disagree.
SPEAKER_00I know you do. We've had this conversation off camera. It's I they they're just not good. The best he's been is been in other movies. Like he wasn't even introduced in his own movie.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_02But that's how Marvel is. So um, but yeah, I I'm I'm excited about this one. I think the aspect of like uh the darkness of what it looks like, um having to struggle through no one knowing who he is is gonna be um interesting to watch. And I'm interested to see where they go with it because I I'm not like the biggest, you know, comic guy. Uh I don't I don't know all the lore, but I do know that like the the power of who Spider-Man is and needs to have Peter Parker to be uh a hero. Like, and so the more that you lose the Peter Parker aspect, it's gonna be interesting to see how they go with does he morph more into Spider-Man than he does um, you know, where where Peter loses himself, if that makes sense. So um I'm excited about it. This one's like a nine for me. 9.5 maybe. I mean, I'm right there with you.
SPEAKER_00It's a nine for me. I think No Way Home was a top five-ish MCU movie for me. Um, and yeah, I'm super excited about it. I just was thrown off guard at the Tom Holland. I I don't know. They could they could do 20 great movies. I'm not viewing it as who has like I'm not viewing it like as MJ has more rings, like okay, he has more good movies, he's the goat. He's nowhere near as good as Toby McGuire, in my opinion. It's not he's not Spider-Man. Like, if you've ever read or watched anything, he's not Spider-Man, like he's he's not nerdy enough. Like Peter Parker is a nerd. Now you can argue that he's a great Spider-Man. Peter Toby was so nerdy that but I thought I think Toby, because I think Andrew, Andrew Garfield, in my opinion, if we're just talking pure Spider-Man, is probably been just the best adaptation of in the suit Spider-Man because he's so it just fits him, he's so sarcastic. He he's so I guess like he has that swag, but he's way too not nerdy, like he is an awful Peter Parker. And I I think the same way about Tom Holland. Like the Toby McGuire was, in my opinion, the perfect adaptation of both. And I don't we're just never gonna agree on that.
SPEAKER_02But I mean it's Tom Tom after this one might be another one for me. We'll see.
SPEAKER_00I can't go back. We're gonna cut the camera, and this guy's gonna be like, yeah, I don't actually believe that. I know for a fact.
SPEAKER_02I actually no, I actually believe this. There's no I believe this 100% believe that that's unbelievable. I guess we'll Garfield's the worst Spider-Man, and I'll die on that one.
SPEAKER_00So well, most people would say that, or a lot of people would say that. I I just I'm really TASM movies.
SPEAKER_02I refuse to watch them again.
SPEAKER_00That's what I'm saying. I don't even think you could tell me the plot of TASM 2. I think you're just saying you don't like it because it's like a script you keep reading because that's what you see other people say. I don't even think you remember it.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, who's in it?
SPEAKER_02All I know is there was an electric villain guy, and it was the stupidest thing I've seen in my life.
SPEAKER_00That's so good. That was Jamie Foxx. And also, he's not even the main, like, that's not the main villain. He he he only becomes a villain for like five, ten minutes or like the end of the movie.
SPEAKER_02That's how much I didn't like the movie. However, the the original Spider-Man number one is one of my favorite of all time.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, I think Spider-Man 2 is my favorite superhero movie of all time. Maybe The Dark Knight. The Dark Knight.
SPEAKER_02Dark Knight, yeah. That franchise is incredible.
SPEAKER_00The Dark Knight. Um, yeah, The Dark Knight. But I think Spider-Man 2, yeah. We'll we'll have to do it. Next podcast, guys, we'll rank our Spider-Man movies um since the turn of the century, and we'll uh we'll see how different they are. Um, we'll move on from that catastrophic conversation we just had. Um, I'm excited to see what your favorite um or what you're most excited for because we're we're kind of I actually I think I know what it is.
SPEAKER_02You definitely should know what it is.
SPEAKER_00It's probably my second or third most anticipated. I made a freaking video about my most anticipated movies, and I forgot one. I did a top five and I forgot one.
SPEAKER_02What'd you forget?
SPEAKER_00I forgot. Hunger Games.
SPEAKER_02Yep. That one's gonna be good too.
SPEAKER_00Um I'm still going. Alright, so next one, this isn't gonna be for you, but I'm gonna mention it. Legend of Aang, the last airbender comes October 9th. That's a 9.5 for me. Um, which you're like nine episodes-ish into the last airbender. We haven't watched in a while, but before that comes out, I'm assuming you know, we'll you'll you'll get through that one. And I'm super excited about it.
SPEAKER_02I'm further than nine episodes in.
SPEAKER_00I mean I've watched the first season. No. Yeah, the first season is like 20 something. 20. You're not you're not the first season in, I promise. It's still on my Netflix from where you were.
SPEAKER_02No, but then I hopped on my Netflix. I'm pretty sure I'm farther than you think I am.
SPEAKER_00Whatever, that matters. Because I don't I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I mean, so that's like a five or six for me. I mean, I think you can appreciate Avatar and its reach and how good of a cartoon it is.
SPEAKER_00A cartoon. Yeah, no, I'm super I'm super sorry for it.
SPEAKER_01Is it not a cartoon? What?
SPEAKER_00I mean, it yeah, I mean, I guess, but it's like would you call Toy Story a cartoon? Yes. Okay, that's weird. A cartoon to me is like a cartoon, like it's based off of comics, like it's a cartoon, like it's from a cartoon strip.
SPEAKER_02Uh so um like codename store. Is it a cartoon?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's a car, it's a show.
SPEAKER_02Then what's the difference between that and Avatar?
SPEAKER_00Uh, manga.
SPEAKER_02It's not based on a like it's a matter what it's based off, but it's still a cartoon.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I guess that I I don't view all animation as a cartoon, though. Like there's the concept.
SPEAKER_02I mean, I probably I probably view TV shows different than movies, but well, this is a movie. Every that's what correct.
SPEAKER_00What but like every animated Toy Story would be a cartoon.
SPEAKER_02Well, I said that in a rapid fire response. Yes. Um any anime TV show I would consider a cartoon.
SPEAKER_00Let us know in the comments what you guys think, because I think that'll be uh that's one of those things that it might be technically right or wrong. I don't actually know what's right or wrong, but that's just not how I view it. I wouldn't say like I don't view anime as cartoon at all.
SPEAKER_02Anime's weird. I don't I would probably made anime. When I watch Avatar, I all I can think is cartoon. Like same thing with like I mean I like Teen Titans. Like I view them all in the same category.
SPEAKER_00Cartoon Network is how it's not the set like you view Avatar The Last Airbender in the same way that you would view like fairly out parents.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, see, I don't, not at all.
SPEAKER_02Like if you asked me if Spongebob's a cartoon, I would tell you yes.
SPEAKER_00SpongeBob is a cartoon, for sure. But I view I view Avatar in the same realm as I would view like Attack on Titan. Like it's an like I view it in the same realm. Or the solo leveling. You watch that with us, a little bit of it. I view them in the same realm. Maybe. Which so I guess it just depends on how you view it. Um all right, next up, October 16th, Street Fighter. Um did you ever play Street Fighter as a kid?
SPEAKER_01Nope. Give me like a one.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow. I I I'm gonna give that like a seven. It's it's got Jay S Momo in it. I love Street Fighter. I'm excited to see like I just don't know. Also, Chun Lee on screen after all the stuff in Fortnite, like the last few years.
SPEAKER_02That's gonna be interesting.
SPEAKER_00I don't even know who plays it, so apologies if it's like something crazy.
SPEAKER_02I was gonna let you down. You're gonna watch it just for that and be like, nah, I love Street Fighter.
SPEAKER_00I played it on my Super Nintendo as a kid, Street Fighter 2, I think it was.
SPEAKER_02Um We gotta rank our favorite like Nintendo games at some point.
SPEAKER_00True. We'll just take over what the what's those two guys, like the I forget what their name is, but they're basically at the escape pod, but they do gaming instead. Um we'll dabble our toes into the gaming realm as if that's not what we do in every other aspect of our content except this. True. All right, uh, next up, uh, there is a new cat in the hat movie coming out. I'm like a three. Uh cat in the hat just always scared me. Like the one that came out as a kid scared me, dude. Yeah, it was terrifying.
SPEAKER_01Was that Jim Carrey?
SPEAKER_00Is does Jim Carrey play Cat in the Hat?
SPEAKER_01I don't remember.
SPEAKER_00I feel like he does. Um no, it was Mike Myers.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay, I gotcha, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I mean, Jim Carrey paid the cringe.
SPEAKER_02True.
SPEAKER_00No, uh, I yeah, I'm like a 30 for this.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, low. I hate I I literally hate when they remake movies, not remaking it, but when they do other movies that weren't good the first time. Like I don't I don't know anybody that just says I love the Cat and Hat movie.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean that's that is based on you know, obviously the Dr. Seuss. They had uh other adaptations of that before that one. So I I guess their thought is they can actually get a get a good one out. Uh but maybe I mean I I used to love the Dr. Seuss books when I was a kid, but oh the books are great.
SPEAKER_01I guess I don't know. Yeah, I'm not I'm not Horton Here's a Who, great movie.
SPEAKER_00True. That one was good. All right, Hunger Games, Sunrise on the Reaping.
SPEAKER_02Nine and a half. Yeah, I'm uh I think I'm with you nine and a half, just because I don't think I can put it in the same category as the Odyssey for me personally, but that one it's I cannot wait to one day have the argument with you about prequels and sequels on the show and talk about Hunger Games. That's like the biggest one for me. But we'll talk about that later, another time. Podcast soon.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I think luckily for me, um, no matter how it goes, if even if you like beat me in the debate by putting up more points, then I can't think of it on the spot. The c everyone's gonna be with me on that because that's ridiculous. We'll see. Um, the only people that'll be with you are the people that want to are intelligent and smart and good looking. The only person that I know in real life that's with you is Max. So shout out Max. Do you think he falls into that category? I just kidding, Max. Um yeah, no, I'm a nine and a half for that. Uh I think the the cast for it. Jesse Plemons as Plutarch might be the greatest casting for a prequel of all time, dude. True. I am so he I ooh, I'm so excited for it. Rest in peace, Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played Plutarch in the original Hunter Games movies. But uh next is December 18th, Dune part three. I'm gonna sit out for this one because I haven't seen Dune yet. I'm currently, well, I say currently, I'm like halfway through the book, the first book of Dune. I haven't picked it up in legit like two or three months, though. So um, but I told myself I want to read Dune before I watched him, and I might just give it and watch them. Um, but yeah, I'm gonna. So you haven't seen him either. So we'll we'll both be part of our summer watch. All right. Uh, and I guess we'll end it. Let me see if there's anything else in December before I get to the one that so there's an Angry Birds movie coming out. I don't really care about that.
SPEAKER_02One.
SPEAKER_00Um, alright, so here's the big one. Um, Avengers Doomsday. So Avengers Doomsday comes out December 18th, the same day as Doom Part 3, actually. That's insane. Are they trying to create another Barbenheimer situation going on? Um but Avengers Doomsday is I think it they're trying to build it up to be kind of the infinity war of this phase, right? I think secret wars is gonna be their next, like kind of in game, what they're going for. But I don't know what to think about this. I think for my I'm gonna put it right in the middle at a five, which sounds blasphemous, but because I'm gonna see how good Spider-Man was first, that's gonna let me know should I be excited for this. That's where I am. I will say I loved Fantastic Four. I thought it was good, and I think that is kind of building into this where we're going. So if you want to what where you are, where are you in the hype meter?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, this is exactly my favorite um or my most anticipated movie of next year for sure. I think I'd give this a 10. I love Avengers. Um, at some point I want to do a watch through of all the Avengers in order. Um, not necessarily in order of release, but in chronological order. I think that'd be a lot of fun. But just we watched Fantastic Four last year.
SPEAKER_00Chronological order.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I think that'd be fun.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so what are we starting with there?
SPEAKER_02I think the first movie is Iron Man.
SPEAKER_00No, no, what are you talking about? Captain America starts in the 1940s. You said chronological. Captain Marvel is set in the 80s. Iron Man is set in the 2000s. I mean, obviously, Iron Man is Captain America is in World War II.
SPEAKER_02So this says if you want to watch them in chronological order, it would be Oh, not okay, sorry. This is doing the release date chronological order, which would be Iron War.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah. Um I assumed, well, yeah, that'd just be by you said not by release date.
SPEAKER_02Might be. Yeah, if you watched them in chronological order by when they came out, it would be like Captain America and Captain Marvel.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I like doing that with some things, but not with Marvel because Marvel would be kind of crazy. Well, Marvel gets weird because it they bring time into it.
SPEAKER_02True. So um, needless to say, I love it. I love Marvel. Um, I'm excited about this one. I think the end scene of Fantastic Four was a really cool teaser of what uh Doctor Doom's gonna be. And I don't know. I I think that that movie kind of got me back excited because it felt like a like Marvel's done a really good job of having movies that set up bigger movies. Um, I think the whole lead up into um Infinity Wars, uh, Endgame, all that fun stuff, like the movies that led up to it made it fun to have the big culminating movie at the end. Yeah. And so that's what I felt like with Fantastic Four. I feel like it finally got to like back to Marvel, back to like it's a great movie, but in reality, the movie's leading into what the big movie at the end's gonna be. And so I think you're right in the sense of if Spider-Man can be what I think it's gonna be, what we both think it's gonna be, then Doomsday is gonna be incredible. And so I'm super pumped.
SPEAKER_00I'm just not letting myself get too hyped about it until I see Spider-Man because I want to see um kind of where they're going because I think this is gonna be a direct lead-in. The MCU has always kind of the movie before it has always been the lead-in, except I'm pretty sure the last movie we got before Endgame was uh Captain Marvel. So that that's except maybe except that situation. But but uh yeah, I'm I'm going right down the middle with the right to change it. Um all right. Well, that's the movies coming out in 2020.
SPEAKER_01You went right down the middle? Yeah, gave it a five. Oh god. Yeah, that was that might be the biggest freaking hot take of the whole thing. Nah, a lot of people five on Doomsday, bro.
SPEAKER_00I I would argue most people are like that because they they've ruined so much lately. Like most people are so skeptical about where they're going.
SPEAKER_02That's a hot take. That's more of a hot take than me saying Tom Holland's.
SPEAKER_00I think you're really disconnected from the masses with this stuff. I don't I don't think that's gonna be received as a hot take. Um maybe that's why I'm just so awesome. I I think most people, not most. I I would say that I don't know. I mean, you guys let us know. I could be wrong. I I just feel like most people are really skeptical about what they're doing. Like there's gonna be a lot of people who used to love Marvel who won't go watch any of these movies because the movies, there's been some good ones. Um, you know, Guardians Volume 3 was great, No Way Home was great. Um, but you've had the Thor debacles, you've had some really bad movies since 2019. So they just kind of ruined a lot of goodwill. Uh, Fantastic Four was good. I loved it. Um, but it wasn't like it made me feel the same way a 2009 to 2020 Marvel movie did. So um we'll see. I uh again I have the right to change it. If Spider-Man blows me away, which I kind of think it will, um, then I'm gonna up it to like a 10. Well, I'm back in the boat. But as of right now, they gotta earn me getting back in the boat. Uh Thunderbolts was good, Fantastic Four was good, but I'm not in the boat yet. They have to earn it. All right, so we're gonna finish this episode up with a fun little game. Um, so a lot of our audience is a little younger. Um, so you might if you haven't seen the office, apologize. But if you have seen the office, we have a treat for you because we're gonna do something really fun. We're gonna draft um not our favorite characters. We do that a good bit. We draft characters, we we draft shows. We're going to literally put together a starting lineup, a basketball lineup with office characters. We're gonna draft, um we should add one wrinkle to this.
SPEAKER_02Okay. So we do a starting five, obviously, but I think you have to draft a coach.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I agree. Like your head coach. Yeah, I mean, I agree. All right, yeah, yeah, and we'll do the coach last. So it kind of throws a wrinkle in it because if a I think if a player's already drafted, you can't draft them as a coach. Um so all right. Uh how we want to pick who goes first, and are we snaking it? Uh that's up to you. Do you want to snake? Um yeah, I guess, because whoever goes first gets a pretty yeah, I guess let's snake it. Unless you want to.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's great. Let's do it. I do think we need a preface too that we are not taking people that make cameos that are athletes.
SPEAKER_00They have to be, yeah, they have to be an actual actor with a character. They can't play themselves. So you know, you had basketball players in it, you had athletes in it. So we're not taking any of those. Um, it'll be actual characters from the show. Um, how do we want to do? Do you want to just I think it's too big of a lag to do a rock, paper, scissors situation.
SPEAKER_02I'll CDU going first.
SPEAKER_00Nah, we're not gonna do that. We're gonna figure out a way. Uh I'll ask I'll ask Chat GPT to just pick one or two. You'll be one, you'll be one, I'll be two. Pick great podcast here. One or two. Only the number in response. It'll give me a whole paragraph if I don't do that. You pick two. You got your wish. Um, this one's actually really tough because this one's so tough. Because I mean, there's the obvious choice who we know you got big time pick Jimmy. He was you know, we watched him play, he was good. We know he played in high school. Um, we know he's tall, he's long. The question is, where do I put him in the lineup if I do take him? But then there's also some other people that I just haven't seen them play, dude. So it's all speculation except for one other one. So I am going to actually take Jim with my one. I'm not gonna overthink it, and I'm gonna put him at my this gets tough, dude. I'm gonna put him at my three. I'm I'm just gonna I'm gonna make him kind of my all everything. Um I I'm probably gonna run a pretty positionless lineup, but yeah, I'll put him at my three.
SPEAKER_02So I think my first pick, I think Jim's probably clearly the first pick for everybody's choice, just based on the one episode or the couple. He actually has multiple episodes where he's playing basketball.
SPEAKER_00Because he plays late too.
SPEAKER_02He does, and he has that random scene where he's with um uh David Wallace at his house playing basketball. Whatever, random. Uh my my one of one, or one point two, I guess, is gonna be Roy. I think Roy's uh a good defender, I think he's a good option for me. Uh based on that one episode, he can play basketball a little bit. So we're gonna put Roy at the four. I like Roy being a stretch big for me. Um, there's not many big characters in this show, or a tall character. So I think Roy, at whatever height he is, like 6'1 or whatever, 6'2, he could be a four for me. Uh my second pick is actually gonna be interesting, and I don't I don't even know if you would pick this guy, but it's probably gonna be my next pick. He he's not seen playing basketball in the show.
SPEAKER_00Never mind.
SPEAKER_02But he is athletic. He uh I think he has some kind of military background because he's pretty locked in all the time.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that was that was the guy I was thinking of being my number one, I think is where you're going. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Gimme Charles.
SPEAKER_00Just athlete-wise. We saw him play volleyball.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he feels like the type of guy that like he wants to play defense. He's like Tony Allen on defense.
SPEAKER_00He he also could have been a great coach in this.
SPEAKER_02I agree, I agree. But what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna put him to match up with Jim. That's who I want to match up with Jim.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02Give me Charles. I feel like he would do a good job of being aggressive. I think um, isn't there a lot of tension between Jim and Charles during the show? Like they don't see the eye there. Yeah, Charles hates him. Yeah. So I think it's a good matchup for me. Uh so give me Charles at the three.
SPEAKER_00All right. Um, I thought you were I was scared you're going to take my next pick, and maybe you're forgetting, or maybe you want him later because you think I'm gonna forget. Yeah, I'm gonna take Kevin. I'm gonna take it as a I'm gonna take him as a stretch four because dude, Kevin, the end of that episode where like you know, Michael doesn't pick him, Michael picks uh Stanley instead. Yeah, and you know, Stanley's dribbling like that, and um, you know, it shows Kevin and he's just knocking him down, just good good looking form, and he talks about how he played, and that was kind of his thing. So, yeah, I'll take Kevin, I'll put him in my stretch for. I'm pretty offensive right now. I think Jim can be versatile, but Kevin's probably not giving me much defensively. So I'm actually gonna go with somebody slightly smaller than Kevin at my five, but I think he's a good matchup, and I think defensively he'd just be a dog. I'm gonna take Daryl.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I knew you were gonna go there. Daryl's a good pick. That was gonna be my next pick.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Daryl's a good matchup, I think, for Roy or whatever else you throw at me. So um I I think we're I have a decent team, but I'm pretty offensive right now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I feel like I'm almost different than like I'm almost on the reverse the other side of that. Yeah, yeah. You're a little more defensive right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, right now I'm kind of like I'm kind of like the I don't know. I'm a I'm one of those very offensive fans. You're you're you're like, I'm trying to think of a good example here. Like, I don't know. We'll see. Let's let's see how you finish this lineup out.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna keep with the defensive theme. I think that I'm gonna lean into it right now. Uh for my two.
SPEAKER_00It's because you're a Grizzlies fan. He's a Grizz fan, guys.
SPEAKER_02I'm a Grizz fan.
SPEAKER_00He's gritten grind his way through this lineup.
SPEAKER_02My number two is going to be another guy who I think is a lockdown defender. He's gonna find little ways to infiltrate your team. Give me Dwight Schroot. He's my two. I feel really good about my defensive team right now. I feel like we're gonna rebound well. I feel like we're gonna guard well. I feel like Kevin's gonna struggle to guard Roy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and now here's where it gets weird because um I Dwight's a good pick.
SPEAKER_00We saw Dwight play a little bit. I mean give him the mask. He's also he he'll he he'll be uh kind of a guy who will he'll foul out for you if you need him to. He'll go out there and just put some fear into opponents, so it's not a bad one.
SPEAKER_02Uh so this is where it gets tricky because I feel like we're down to the point where it's like we've taken most of the athletic people that we can see. Um, there's one guy that I think he's small, kind of all over the place. Yeah, but sim, I I would hope he's semi-athletic. Um, I just don't know how how much care he's gonna put into playing on my team. I don't want a locker room cancer. Uh, so I'm gonna make this, I guess, a little interesting. At my five, I'm going to take. Ooh. You know what? I'm changing my mind. Give me at my one, I'm gonna take Pete. Pete at my one. I don't know if he can play basketball. He looks semi-athletic.
SPEAKER_00He looks like a guy that can fit a role.
SPEAKER_02He looks like a guy that could fit a role. So I'm gonna take Pete at my number one.
SPEAKER_00I'm making you stick to that, but if you'll remember, Pete hates sports. He talks about he talks about how sports wasn't his thing because him and Jim didn't, because they called him Little Jim. Right. And Jim tried to talk to him about it, and then it cut to him like talking to camera, and he was talking about how unathletic it was and how he hated sports. So I don't know. It's okay. I don't know about that one.
SPEAKER_02I'm okay with that.
SPEAKER_00I thought you were going with somebody else at your home when you said small, but yeah.
SPEAKER_02I told you I don't want a locker room cancer. I know who I know who we're thinking, but I think he'd be a cancer. I don't think he'd care enough to play. You can take him. Yeah, that'd be a great option for you.
SPEAKER_00True. Was that your yeah?
SPEAKER_02So Dwight Round and my fourth round was Pete.
SPEAKER_00So there's a couple ways I can go here. Um, and I think I'm gonna have to go away where I am the most positionless team of all time. And I think with Kevin being a stretch forward and being a shooter, it gives him me the ability to do this. I think I'm about to be a terror on the boards and I'm about to be a terror defensively as a matchup nightmare for you. Because in my two, I'm gonna go D'Angelo Vickers. Because that's Will Farrell. Because D'Angelo, if you remember, the reason he gets the the way he gets written out of the show was he claims that back in the day he. Could get above the rim. He was a dunker. He was a high flyer. Now, most people think he was just talking crap. That's how he got hurt and he ended up in a coma. But I'm gonna take him at his word and assume he could actually ball. And you know, he's we'll you know, he's tall, what, six three or so? So it gives him give me some length and he's big, give him some length of two. I I probably would like to go back and flip him and Jim, but I'll I'll lock it in. I'll be um, you know, straight up with how I did it. And at the one, I'm actually going to take um David Wallace. With so I have some real length, you know, he's he's pretty tall, long as well. I uh it's one of those lineups where it doesn't really matter who the point guard is, like Jim might bring it up. It's gonna be one of those. You're I'm gonna have to figure it out. But size-wise and lengthwise, I'm pretty I'm pretty long across the board.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was actually thinking about David as my five. That was one of the people that I was seeing last round. Um, obviously, I was talking about Ryan at the one, but I'm gonna take a guy. Okay, first of all, shout out to a guy that I think I would have taken last round if I had remembered that he existed. Um, Dwight's cousin, Zeke. I think I might have taken him. He's the one that was a part of the uh the when remember when they had all the special kids come in, like all the ones with superpowers and stuff. He was the one that wasn't like the taller one, like the more built one. No, he's only in like three or four episodes, whatever. Um, okay, shout out to him. I'm gonna take a Dennis Rodman type. I want a guy who is volatile, he's all over the place. I don't know what I'm gonna get on any given night. He might give me 20 rebounds, he might try to flirt with the cheerleaders. I he might be all over the place. Give me Todd Packer at my five. Todd freaking packer at the five. Um, I think my team is very defensive-minded. I really I think we're we're gonna play a lot through Roy in the four and hope that Dwight can get up some layups every now and then.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um I hope Charles has a jump shot. He might not. He might literally be Tony Allen where he just plays defense and gets some layups. Um you definitely have the more offensive team. So I I do like the interesting dynamic of defense is my strong suit, offense is yours, because in reality, Daryl could put up 30 points on Todd any given night, if we're being very honest. But now we're down to the coach. Yeah. I get my coach selection first. I think maybe people in my comments might take Michael as their coach. I think Michael would be the coach, but would want to play too badly to coach. So I think he would literally try to sub himself in. Um, so I think my coach might be a little bit of an interesting choice. So I think I'm gonna play some mind games. Here's what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_00Are you really about to do about the current continue?
SPEAKER_02We're gonna play some mind games. You have one person that I think if they had to play against the person they're married to coaching, might be a little bit of a mind game. The ex is on my team, so give me Pamela Beasley as my head coach.
SPEAKER_00I just feel like that would I feel like that would make Jim. And that's the podcast, folks. We are apparently 17-year-old girls now. Heck yeah. I think that would make Jim go harder because he's literally going against Roy. Um, so I don't know. I mean, yeah, I get that I'll get the mind game because your roster's at a significant disadvantage right now. So I get the mind, I get the mind game.
SPEAKER_02Okay, you've got no defense, buddy, at all.
SPEAKER_00I have no defense. Yeah. David Wallace, no David Wallace, uh, D'Angelo, D'Angelo Pickers, and Jim's neck. The only person that isn't isn't in defensive at all is Kevin. That's a clear mismatch.
SPEAKER_02You're gonna have to double team Roy. You're gonna leave my dude Todd wide open.
SPEAKER_00Oh, Roy was dribbing with his palms. He was okay. Like he wouldn't even start out here at the gym by us, like if we had a normal 10 people. Are you crazy? Nah, you're you're you're crazy. He had no skill. Jim, Jim whipped him up and down that quarter.
SPEAKER_02Jim's not guarding him now.
SPEAKER_00He's got Kevin. I can I can guard whoever. It doesn't have to be matched up straight on that. We talking about it we'll see. I can guard whoever I want.
SPEAKER_02I can put to play a 2-3 zone because of Kevin. It's gonna be five on four.
SPEAKER_00No, I'm gonna put Kevin on uh who did you say as on Todd?
SPEAKER_02Todd's gonna destroy that.
SPEAKER_00First off, pause. Second off, Todd Packer looks like he does he's never touched a basketball in his life. I I think you're viewing things in a very weird way. Okay. Um I need your coach, sir. Yeah, this one's tough. Let me hold up.
SPEAKER_02Let's give some shout-outs while you do that.
SPEAKER_00We're not gonna hold up. I'm not gonna take Michael because I actually was gonna take Michael. You talked me out of it. Because you're right.
SPEAKER_02He would want to play too badly.
SPEAKER_00But also depends on which Michael you get. Season one, Michael versus post-Holly Michael are two different Michaels. Um but I'm still not gonna take Michael. Um, go ahead and shout out here. We're gonna shout out.
SPEAKER_02All right. Shout out to uh Andy Bernard, he would have been a decent coach.
SPEAKER_00Um, don't don't give shoutouts. You don't know who I'm gonna take.
SPEAKER_02Well, hurry up and take him so I can give shoutouts.
SPEAKER_00That's a ridiculous. Yeah, what do you but you could shout out somebody I'm about to take? What are you doing?
SPEAKER_02Were you gonna take Andy as your head coach?
SPEAKER_00He would it was either it was one of three people, and he was one of them. Because Andy, when he's the manager, is beloved. And I think people would play for him. And I think he would just I think he would bow to Jim's judgment and let Jim do whatever he wanted, which is kind of what I want with this team. Um, but no, I'm gonna take uh good. I'm gonna take Joe because I think she would be just they would be dude, they'd be putting some work in, man. Joe would put some work in, and I have a feeling she she uh she's been around some basketball in her days. So I'll take Joe Bennett.
SPEAKER_02Some people we left out that might have been decent basketball players. Lonnie, he's the other um warehouse guy.
SPEAKER_00The true I forgot about I forgot about the warehouse crew. I mean, I only took Daryl.
SPEAKER_02We forgot Hank.
SPEAKER_00I didn't figure Hank. I'm not gonna be an 80-year-old man.
SPEAKER_02Could have taken Bob Vance, Vance refrigeration.
SPEAKER_00He's big.
SPEAKER_02He is a big dude. He would have been uh oh, you could have taken Josh Porter, the regional manager for um.
SPEAKER_00What was the other one? Lil Bitty Dude. He's uh Nashua. No, he's not Nashua. He's the one that it's where Jim goes to.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I don't remember.
SPEAKER_02Uh see, anybody else on this list? Sorry, just scrolling through real quick. Why can't I remember who Robert Lipton is?
SPEAKER_00Robert Lipton. Oh, dude, you also could have taken uh he's the state senator who gets in trouble for Oh, oh, the Angela's my husband. Yeah, definitely not taking him.
SPEAKER_02Um a little bit of a distraction there. Um, you could take him Brian, the one that flirts with Pam at the end.
SPEAKER_00Or the camera guy?
SPEAKER_02The yeah, the sound guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, he's a little bitty dude.
SPEAKER_02No, he's not.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, that actor's in a different show. He's like five, six or two.
SPEAKER_02That would have been fun for me to take him and have J have him and uh what's his face on the same team? Him and Roy on the same team.
SPEAKER_00Yep. Um, all right. Well, I think that's a good draft. Let us know in the comments you guys think. One, but that was a good episode of Popcorn Talks. We'll catch you in the next one. Thanks for listening.
