A Rewarded Fait

And the king spoke with them, and among all of them none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king. Daniel 1:19 ESV

It’s amazing what we will do for a reward. That is why we register with almost every business that we frequent, why we sign up for various newsletters, text messages, and emails, and become friends with them on Facebook. We are looking for rewards. It doesn’t matter if we really need what the reward is, we still want it.

Reward points have been around for many years. Do you remember S&H Green Stamps? You collected stamps based upon how much you purchased. For a certain number of stamps you would qualify for a reward. Everyone collected the stamps! Everyone wanted a reward.

I’m glad to report to you today, that God also gives rewards! No better example can be found than in Daniel 1:19. You know the story. Daniel and his friends have been selected to serve the king. They have asked not to have to eat the king’s food and drink his wine. Instead they ask for vegetables and water. Boldly, they asked to be examined in 10 days to see how they are doing. No doubt they knew that severe consequences awaited them if they failed to be in top shape. Still, by faith, they made this request.

In Daniel 1:19 is the culmination of their request. At the appointed time the king called all of the young man together to be inspected. He did not find ANY equal to Daniel and his friends. God had honored their faith and given them favor with the king. Not only did God give them favor, but He also placed them in service to the king! The bible says “therefore they stood before the king.” They were highly honored.

God has similar rewards for His children today. When we honor Him by faith and allow Him to control our actions, He will bless us in return. We may not stand before a king and we may not be recognized by man for what we have done, but God will be aware of our faith. That should be reward enough…just knowing that God has taken notice of us, but in reality that is only the beginning.
