As with all behaviors, to successfully create a healthier habit we must identify the root cause of the unhealthy behaviors. Because the root cause is individual to the person, clients will react differently to a set of garden variety replacement behaviors they are offered. A replacement that works well for one client won't always work for another.
Essentially, in order to create healthier replacement behaviors for your clients, you must know your clients' unhealthy habits, the root cause of those habits, and then you will be able to choose a healthier replacement that will be easy to incorporate and effective at helping them reach their goals.
