What will we choose—human wisdom or divine guidance?
Common assertions made about the Bible:
- It is a collection of fables and myths, rather than a record of historical events.
- It is filled with contradictions and inaccuracies.
- It is a book of “bizarre” and “vulgar” stories.
- It was not written by eyewitnesses..
- It was put together by a political process—driven by human interests.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” —Proverbs 14:12“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” —2 Timothy 3:16-17“For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.” —2 Peter 1:16
We Can Trust the Bible because of eyewitnesses.
“For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain.” —2 Peter 1:17-18“And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” —2 Peter 1:19
We Can Trust the Bible because of fulfilled prophecy.
“knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.” —2 Peter 1:20-21
We Can Trust the Bible Because of it’s divinely inspired. (v. 20-21)
Takeaway: Commit to the Bible being your guide for your next decision(s).
“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” —Acts 17:11
