"God Restored my Sanity": Flor's Faith-Filled Story

The QuadFather

From the Abilities Expo Chicago, we sit down for a fast, unfiltered talk with Flor, a 25-year-old grocery clerk living with schizoaffective disorder with bipolar features and PTSD. She brings a clear-eyed account of losing her sense of self last year and the stubborn faith that helped her rebuild it—verse by verse, day by day—despite doubts from doctors and family.

What emerges is a practical blueprint for resilience. We explore how spiritual practices can complement therapy and medication, why routine and work can steady the mind, and how reframing recovery as “years new” keeps growth visible when progress feels slow. We also talk about the power of community spaces like the Abilities Expo, where disability, mental health, and adaptive life meet without stigma. This isn’t a polished studio interview; it’s a speedcast that trades perfect sound for human connection and grounded advice.

If you’re at rock bottom or love someone who is, you’ll hear a message that travels well: hope is a practice, identity is bigger than a diagnosis, and shared stories shorten the distance between struggle and strength. Press play for a short, honest dose of encouragement—and pass it to someone who needs proof that better is possible.

What's up guys? As you can see, we're not in the studio at home. We're actually at the Abillies Expo in Chicago, and this podcast is gonna be a little different. It's gonna be like a speedcast. The sound is not gonna be as great because of how wide open this space is. But I hope you guys enjoy it. Please enjoy this Life to the Max speedcast.

SPEAKER_00:

Couple green thumbs all ice cats.

SPEAKER_02:

What is up everybody? It is Life to the Max Podcast, and we are at the Abilities Expo in Sherburg, Illinois. It is June 21st, 2025, and today I'm here with what's your name?

SPEAKER_01:

Floor.

SPEAKER_02:

So tell me about yourself, Lau.

SPEAKER_01:

So I'm 25, I'm about to be 26 in July. Um I'm disabled and I work part-time at a grocery store.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

And um my disabilities are schizofective disorder, with bipolar disorder, and PTSD.

SPEAKER_02:

How do you all persevere with that?

SPEAKER_01:

Well, actually I persevered through it with my faith because last year I was at a pretty low point where not even my family thought I was gonna get better from my disabilities, and my faith helped me pull through everything and God. I'm a Christian, I don't know. You two? Just because I have a cross on me, of course, over. Yeah. But uh just looking through the Bible and finding the verses that encouraged me the most pulled me through my rock bottom moments, and really helped me restore my sanity because basically last year I lost my sanity, but I feel like God helped me restore that and get better from it. And the doctors didn't even think I was gonna get better, my family didn't think I was gonna get better, but I think that my faith in God pulled me through and God pulled me through all of that.

SPEAKER_02:

And you proved them wrong. I'm sorry, what? You proved them wrong.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes.

SPEAKER_02:

You know, because here you are today talking to me, and I'm uh blessed to be talking to you as well.

SPEAKER_01:

I'm blessed to be talking to you too. Um, do you mind telling me a little bit about yourself?

SPEAKER_02:

So I was talking about what happened to me. Um just anything. Just anything. So I love sports, uh hockey, Patrick Game. Uh I used to play hockey, I used to play football. Uh and then I was I went to the military to go in the train, which is like the front lines. And then I was uh training to be a raw arranger, possibly go special forces. Unfortunately I also have a car accident about nine years ago, and uh I wasn't driving a car. Life got flipped up later. But here I am nine years new, so I could hear it.

SPEAKER_01:

Wow, that's awesome that you have your own podcast. What inspired you to start it?

SPEAKER_02:

A lot of people uh like are going through a lot like a lot of things, and I don't care if I get 30 views or 30,000 views, but uh uh I know that my voice in someone's ear is like gonna help someone, and that's what I want to do is help someone because like like l it can be a lot worse. Always life can be a lot worse.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I agree. That's really awesome of you.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, so uh is there anything you want to say to the people out there?

SPEAKER_01:

Um, just keep on hoping, and if you think you're at your rock bottom, things will get better, and there is always hope no matter what, as long as we're living and breathing and just persevering and find a faith that you can connect to, and your higher power will help you get through anything.

SPEAKER_02:
