Decoding Wine Label Symbols
- The KSA Symbol: Look for the KSA (Kosher Supervision of America) symbol on the label, signifying that the wine is certified kosher by this reputable organization. The KSA symbol provides a sense of trust and authenticity.
- OU Symbol: The OU (Orthodox Union) symbol is another common certification for kosher wines. Wines bearing the OU symbol have undergone rigorous inspection and meet the highest kosher standards.
- P: A “P” on the label indicates that the wine is kosher for Passover, making it suitable for consumption during the holiday.
- Mevushal: Some kosher wines are “Mevushal,” meaning they have undergone a process of flash pasteurization. Mevushal wines maintain their kosher status even if handled by non-Jewish individuals, making them ideal for events where wine will be served by non-Jewish staff.
