The Outline I Almost Skipped Became My Lifeline (Writing Wednesday)

I'm starting a new weekly series called Writing Wednesday. My book manuscript is due end of August, and I'm holding myself accountable by posting every week about the process.
Here are two lessons from my editor, Kassia:
First: build an outline before you write. I didn't get why she pushed me on this until I was three chapters in and kept losing the thread. Now I reread that outline constantly. It keeps the structure consistent for readers while still leaving room to cut and rearrange as the writing changes.
Second: get an editor who tells you the truth, not just what you want to hear.

I'm gonna start posting on Wednesdays to hold myself accountable. I'm calling them Writing Wednesdays. Um, I'm writing every day now. My manuscript is due at the end of August. But I wanted to share two main pieces of learning that I'm grateful for, um, due to my amazing editor, Kassia. Um, and she's helped me so much with the book writing process. Um, when she encouraged me to craft an outline, I didn't understand the value of that said outline. I go back to it constantly. I reread. Um, but if you are writing a book for the first time and you don't have an outline drafted, it, it-- you're missing out because it allows you to be flexible, to cut back, but to stay on track with the structure and consistency for your readers. So, um, make sure you have a really good editor who will give you feedback that you need, and also create the outline. Do it. I'll see you next Wednesday.
