GOD TAKES CARE OF US

Now, the first reading from Chronicles is like I hate to say like old time religion. You know, don't do this, God is gonna strike you dead, God's gonna get you. Um it's Old Testament uh fire and brimstone kind of story about God getting even with the enemies of Israel. And he and he made a mess of it. I mean, he didn't it wasn't easy, you know, they just didn't fall asleep, you know. He killed them all, you know. He said, well, that's God, that's God's word in the Bible. We have Jesus, he's the fulfillment of God's word. So Jesus did not uh, how can I say, acclimate his words to the fire and brimstone of the Old Testament. He did talk about judgment, but he didn't talk about it as graphically as the scriptures told us in the Old Testament when there was a war between two people, the forces of one against the forces of the other, and then God intervenes. And okay, that's blood and guts. We don't need to hear that. We hear that every day in our news, regrettably. What we do need to hear is the gospel, and today's gospel is so um inviting in a sense. Not long ago, I was with some kids, and they they use certain terms that we haven't acclimated ourselves yet to. Um, I got this. I got this. That means I understand it's a whole bunch of things. It means I understand, I mean I'll I'll do it, I know how to do it, I got this. But it's a mini conversation, it's a short conversation. That's all right. That's today's gospel. Matthew's saying, God's got this. Well, what does he got? We he is that paying my rent, he's not mowing my lawn, he's not paying for my air conditioner, God's got this. And God covered that when he says, let's stop worrying about everything. The one thing that we need to really believe in and hold on to is that God is with us through all of it. Well, remember the storms a few years ago, the hurricanes? God didn't get that. You saw the mess on the streets all through Pinot County. So is this scripture wrong? No. God doesn't talk about garbage, he doesn't talk about junk on the highway, he talks about us and our relationship with him. And yes, we come here because we believe that God has it, what we need. He says it. No matter what you worry about, the Father already knows what you need. So don't get hung up on that. Go about life, go about loving, go about believing God's with us. And that's the key. Through any difficulty, illness, physical property damage, employment, marital problems. If we're going through these things, we have to do it from this perspective. God is in me. God's taking care of me. And then I could look at the garbage outside, then I can look at the challenges outside. Knowing God's with me, metaphorically, looking through my eyes into the world around me, into the unemployment, into the lost job, into the marital conflict. So if I'm aware that Jesus is with me, and I really bring that into my life, even damage to my dock or my home or my pool, doesn't matter. I'll have to get it fixed. God doesn't send a check, that's for sure. But I'll get it done. I'm not gonna cause any disruption outside of me to change or disrupt my relationship with Jesus Christ. That's the challenge. That's the challenge always. And Jesus uses appropriate metaphors, food, drink, housing. And you can go far deeper than that. You can go as far as you want. To know that he's with me and God knows what I need before I even ask it. It's almost aggravating. You know, you ever get in a conversation with someone who finishes your sentence, I hate that. Then I I always say, oh, I wasn't gonna say that. I was gonna say, just to screw them up. That's right. Well, God knows what you need. He knows what you need next year at this time. Just so you get it. Of course, he knows our present needs. He's always with us. And God, again, he doesn't keep a bank account. The needs that he knows are within us. The relationship I have with God, the relationship he has with me, the security of knowing he's with me every way, every step of the way. God's got this.
