The Lion Within Us - Leadership for Christian Men
Christian men are in a battle for their lives. Satan will do everything possible to destroy them. The Lion Within Us is a community that provides encouragement to become the leaders God intends us to be. Our main focus lies within three categories: Health (Mental/Physical), Wealth (Careers/Finances) and Self (Husbands/Fathers/Brothers in Christ). By sharpening these areas of our lives, we can find the strength needed to stand firm in our faith and unleash the Lion Within.
The Lion Within Us - Leadership for Christian Men
553. Beyond The Noise - Fun Friday
What does it truly mean to find rest in the midst of life's battles? This week's episode unpacks the powerful truth from Exodus 14:14: "The Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still." This counter-cultural message challenges the notion that strength always means taking action, when sometimes our greatest act of faith is standing firm while God works on our behalf.

Welcome to the Lion Within Us, a podcast serving Christian men who are hungry to be their leaders God intends you to be. I'm your host, chris Granger. Let's jump in. All right, fellas, it's Fun Friday, let's go. You made it through the week. Hallelujah, right. So look, exodus 14, 14, 1, 4, 1, 4. That is the scripture of the week this week. Okay, the Lord will fight for you. You need only to be still. What a great reminder from God's word, and we've talked about it. Now it's our third episode.
Chris Grainger:We've talked about this scripture, but if you want to go deeper with it, go back to the spiritual kickoff episode, because I spent a lot of time just unpacking that, trying to give you some things to consider with your own discipleship journey. Because I'm going to tell you what one thing I have to remind myself of more and more the older I get, the more I take on my plate. Sometimes. I just need to remember he's fighting and just I need to be still. When I go through with my little kids in the mornings, I do the little school with them early in the mornings, and these attributes of God we talk about, and one of them's always the Lord is our warrior, my guy. We talk about that. One of them's always the Lord is our warrior. My son loves that. He says warrior, that's right. He will fight for you. We've had to trust in him. And if you like the spiritual kickoff episodes heck, if you like any of the episodes that align within us I'd love for you to go check out what we've built at the line within dot U S, from our free daily spiritual kickoff to our lines, the community, to our leadership mastermind fellows. We got you covered in different ways that we are here to serve and help. And then, if you use the Bible app, please the next time you open the Bible app, search for the line within us. It's been a ton of time every week writing studies to go to the Bible app because I know it encourages people. I know it helps them. I know it helps them. I know sometimes in the seasonal life that you find yourself in, you just need to dive in a guy's word and a little outside perspective. It's a good thing. That's what we built that for. So head over to the lion withinus and you can check out all our resources there. For our guest this week was Robert, and they had a lot of fun talking to him about extra strong. Rob's a great guy, guys, so just go check out that episode if you hadn't had a chance, and I really enjoyed having him on. So let's get to our fun Friday stuff though. Ok, I'm super pumped about this Fun Friday.
Chris Grainger:We always do, for, if you're new listener to the line within us a health, wealth and a self tip. Ok. So the way this works, the health really focuses on our mind and our body. It's not just about having, you know, stronger bodies, but we have to strengthen that mind as well. That wealth is about stewarding our finances and also our careers. And self is really how do we improve incrementally as husbands and fathers? Okay, and we usually pick one from each and every week.
Chris Grainger:So for the health tip this week, I wanted to bring up something called the Rice Method, and it's classic. It's a classic first aid protocol helping you if you sprained something or pulled something or like a bruise something. It can really help you reduce that pain, reduce the swelling, which is really big as well, that inflammation, and promote healing early in the stages. Ok, so this is the rice usually only works. Works, guys, the first 24 to 48 hours. Okay, and what rice stands for?
Chris Grainger:Number one is rest. R is rest Okay. So. So stop using that that damaged area. You want to get the rest on that as soon as possible, particularly if anything causes pain, swelling or discomfort. I is ice Okay, and you and you apply that ice wrapped up. Obviously We'll wrap it up to that area for usually about 15 to 20 minutes and you can rotate that every two to three hours, because what that ice is going to do is it's going to reduce that inflammation and it's going to put some numbing to that pain as well.
Chris Grainger:Now C is compression Okay, so, like an elastic bandage or compression wrap, that's going to help limit the swelling, but you want to make sure it's not too tight and you don't want to cut off any circulation or anything like that, but you just want to have some good compression there. And then E is elevation. So you want to raise that injured body part above the level of your heart, if at all possible. Now, that's not always possible, but if it is, try that. That's going to help reduce some swelling and allow those fluids to drain better, particularly away from that area. So our buddy Travis brought this one up. He got a little light injury at one of our events, and this was a method that he talked to me about and just was a good reminder. He said you know what it's a great one to bring back up. So again, we're not trained physicians or anything out here, boys, but if you've sprained an ankle, if you twist something, this is a great one to remember. If you just remember, rice rest, ice compress, elevate, okay, that'll do, that'll serve you well and hopefully it'll bring you a little bit of relief.
Chris Grainger:All right, now for your wealth tip. Okay, budget beyond the trip, okay, so. So think about this. Okay, most people plan for travel, lodging and food, okay, and what we forget about is sometimes is is the re, re-entry, the, the, the financial cost of coming back home. Think about this you got post-trip expenses, like, when you get home, guess what you gotta do? You gotta go buy them groceries again, right? You? To catch up on bills that pile up, okay. So you need to have sometimes a small little recovery fund so you're not scrambling the week you return. And then sometimes, if you don't have PTO, you may have a work income gap, right, and this could be a big deal. So don't forget about this.
Chris Grainger:And building in a little guilt-free buffer is a big deal because that creates what we like to call margin in our life for those unexpected splurges, like if you want to get a souvenir or go on an excursion on your trip, that you didn't really know about it until you got there, but now you really want to go. If you have that little bit of guilt-free buffer built into your budget, man, that's uh, it gives you a little more freedom to have fun on that trip, right? Because biblical stewardship, fellas, it's not about being cheap, and I think too many people get this wrong. It's not about being cheap, it's about being intentional, okay. So planning with margin honors God and it helps you get that rest and get to enjoy the trip without any regret, and that's what it's all about. So, budget beyond the trip Okay. So now self tip.
Chris Grainger:My kids hate this, but this I'm just going to tell you trips have kids, vacations don't All right. So this is the reality of that, is it so? And I get? Both of those are important in our life, but they serve different purposes, extremely different purposes. Because family trips they build memories and they're fun for your kids, they're strengthening your household. But there's a lot let's just be real Logistics, there's exhaustion, there's very little one-on-one connection with your spouse on those trips. So it's just not there. But we still need to do them.
Chris Grainger:Vacations allow for that space, unless you reconnect with your husband, with your wife rather, she can connect with her husband and you can do it without interruptions. You can do it with maybe a little bit more of a relaxed schedule and guess what? You won't constantly be hearing well, I'm bored. Or mom or dad, you won't hear any of that stuff. So one thing to consider is maybe prioritize one intentional getaway a year with just your spouse, just one vacation. And look me and my wife right now the way we have to do it. It's usually just one night away, maybe two at the most, but it's an investment and it's an investment in your marriage that is worth it because you're going to return more United, you'll have a little bit more of a recharge and then it's also just going to be a good reminder who you were before those kids came on.
Chris Grainger:We love our kids I think everybody out there. If you have kids, you love them, right, but you got to remember there was a time before them and there will be a time when your kids leave the home good Lord willing, where it's just going to be you and her. You have to build that, because strong marriages aren't built by accident. They're built on intentional time, sharing some laughter together and some uninterrupted conversation, which can be very difficult to have from time to time, right? So go check that out, fellas.
Chris Grainger:There are your three tips right there. That rice method that rest, ice compress and then elevate. The well tip is budget beyond the trip. So me thinking about the stuff, the stewardship past the trip. And then the self tip is trips themselves, that's kids Vacations. Don't have kids.
Chris Grainger:So that was the book of the week this week. I got this from my wife it's actually right here called Praying the Names of God for 52 Weeks. This is a year-long bible study, uh, something she and I want to do together. Be 100 honest, we haven't done it yet, but it's on our to do to-do list, but I wanted to share that with you guys, so go check that out, all right? So our dad jokes this week, fellas, how about this? Right here, dad joke.
Chris Grainger:Number one what kind of shoes do frogs wear? Okay? Hmm, Well, that's open toed sandals. There you go. Number two I just built an ATM that only gives out coins. Okay, I don't know why no one's thought of it before. It just makes sense. I know which one I'm voting for this week. But let me know number one and number two. Number one what kind of shoes do frogs wear? Open-toed sandals. Number two I just built an ATM that only gives out coins. I don't know why no one thought of it before, because it just makes sense.
Chris Grainger:I'm telling you, fellas, those types of dad jokes, we're going to get the eye rolls, they're going to get the size, they're going to make your spouse turn around and walk off, or your teenage daughter turn around and walk off, in my case as well. That's okay. That's the point of the dad jokes. So, look, if you have a dad joke we haven't used, hit us up support at the line within that us, rather, and get our email out. Support at the line within that us. Send me a dad joke in your email. We'll use it on the show in your email. We'll use it on the show. We'll give you a shout out. We'll even try to hook you up with some free swag just for helping us out. How about that? All right.
Chris Grainger:So, fellas, if you enjoy this stuff, share it out with others. That's how the line within us grows. There's so much stuff out there. I mean you're competing for, for attention, and I get all that. But if you find value as a line within us, listener, send it to other people, send it to other people and then, if you find value in the Lion Within us, head over to thelionwithinus and start your whatever it is either the daily SKO, the community, or join a mastermind. Get plugged in so we can serve. I'd love to connect with you, have a conversation with you and just see how I can serve in any way possible guys. So have a great weekend. Give us a rating review if you could. That helps for sure. The more of those we get, the better. And again, the lionwithinus is how you get connected with us. All right, so have a great day, get after it. We'll see you next week Prayerfully, good Lord willing, and just keep unleashing the lion with it. I've got something big to share.
Chris Grainger:We're making a major shift because we know the battle was real and it's time more men had access to the support they need.
Chris Grainger:For too long, guys have been trying to carry the weight alone pressure at work, tension at home, wounds from the past and a world that demands strength but offers no place to rest. We see it, we've lived it, and that's exactly why we built our community. It's a stronghold, a place where warriors can find rest, truth and a band of brothers standing beside them. And starting now, we're making it easier than ever to step in. We've lowered the barrier to just $15.99 a month. That means, for less than the cost of a drive-thru lunch, you can join a brotherhood that's centered on Christ and built for growth. Inside you'll find access to our daily spiritual kickoffs every Monday through Friday, our Lion Lunches, our Bible Studies, our Friday Forge Gatherings all that and so much more. Every man needs a stronghold, and you don't have to fight alone. If you've been waiting for the right time to jump in, this is it. Go to thelionwithinus and join the community and see for yourself what happens when iron truly sharpens iron.
