Fishing the DMV

From Beekeeper to Bait Maker: The MX Plugs Story

Thomas Arens Season 2 Episode 351

On this episode of Fishing the DMV, I sit down with the owner of MX Plugs—a custom lure maker with an incredible backstory and a serious passion for innovation. It all started with a broken plug he found lakeside. No hooks, no hardware—just potential. After cutting it in half, reshaping it, adding rattles and new hardware, he crafted a plug that actually caught fish. That spark of creativity launched a journey that took him from offshore shark and tuna charters to the creeks and bays of Long Island, chasing striped bass. Over the years, he’s honed his craft designing lures for everything from tuna and dolphin to freshwater bass, eventually leading him to start his own company, MX Plugs. Tune in as we dive into the art, science, and inspiration behind his one-of-a-kind creations.
