HOW TO AVOID AND ALIEN DECEPTION
INTRODUCTION
Hello everyone, and welcome to Spirit-Led Hope. My name is Glenn Erichsen, and in this episode, we are discussing:
HOW TO AVOID AN ALIEN DECEPTION
It seems like I have been away from the show for a long time, and a lot has happened since the last full episode. In case you did not hear the mini-casts that I recently unpublished, I need to wrap up Season 5 quicker than I intended. I am going to do a couple more episodes, and then I need to focus on putting together a university class which will look at living a Spirit-led life. I am going to use the work I do for the class to guide the material for Season 6, which I think should be a bit of throwback to Season 1. This is something I have been thinking about doing for quite a while.
But before we head down the path to Season 6, we need to address aliens and exorcisms. In this episode I want to think about how to avoid an alien deception. After all, that is what many Christian authors and content creators are worried about. And in an era when talk about extraterrestrials is in the daily news cycle, it does not seem too far-fetched that this is something to be concerned about.
The concern is that demons, or beings under the control of demons, may appear soon as extraterrestrial aliens. In this form, what they say or teach may be antithetical to the gospel and Jesus. This could be an avenue for the antichrist to reach power, and a way that great numbers of Christians could be deceived.
THERE IS TOO MUCH TOO KNOW
Over the last several months, I have read articles, listened to podcasts, and watched YouTube videos by Christians covering this topic. And what I have found is that you could spend every waking hour studying about aliens, alien abductions, UFOs, and UAPs and you would have no shortage of material for a very long time. The amount of material on aliens and UAPs by Christians and the secular community is staggering.
In fact, there is so much material available that it does not make sense for me to cover it in this podcast. I would rather focus on principles that will help all of us know what to do if there really is an alien deception like I talked about in the last episode.
Later in this episode I will tell you what I have concluded about aliens and an alien deception. But if you want to form your own opinions then you must set aside some time to study. If you decide to do this, there are some prominent Christian voices you can find on podcasts like Blurry Creatures, and most have their own books, podcasts, or YouTube videos. A few names to check out are:
· Michael Heiser
· Hugh Ross
· Timothy Alberino
· Chuck Missler
· L.A. Marzulli
· C.S. Lewis
We have talked a lot about the late Michael Heiser in this season. And though he is no longer alive, you can still read his books and listen to his views on podcasts or YouTube videos. The same can be said for Chuck Missler.
The reason I chose these authors is because their theological views about demons and aliens span a spectrum of beliefs. They also have differing perspectives on whether aliens are physical or spiritual. And if you care about these things, some of the authors like Missler and Ross have relevant scientific credentials.
You may be surprised that I included C.S. Lewis on my list. This is because of the Space Trilogy Lewis wrote in the 1930’s and 40’s. The trilogy was written by Lewis as a thought experiment about the possibility of other rational non-human creatures who never sinned. In this fictional setting in space, there are spiritual beings who fit very well into the divine council worldview we have already talked about.
If you read the Space Trilogy today, you will find that much of the science in the books is incredibly outdated, but the rest is still relevant. Lewis’s angelology, moral philosophy, and how humans might relate to spiritual beings is directly applicable to the modern discussion of a possible alien deception.
A BROAD RANGE OF POSSIBLE BELIEFS
Before I tell you what I believe, let us talk about some of the differing perspectives held by Christians. There are three areas that I think are the most interesting to us. The first is the nature of aliens. The second is alien abductions. And the third is the existence of spacecraft. Let us look at these one at a time.
When it comes to the nature of aliens, there are five categories most often discussed, although there may be more. Let me just give you a list. An alien could be:
1. A fully spiritual demonic being with no physicality.
2. A Nephilim-like hybrid with physicality…just like in Genesis 6 that we talked about. In other words, that means fallen angels are mating with humans again.
3. An alien could be a fallen angel who can appear in a physical body (just like angels appeared physically to Abraham).
4. Aliens could be a non-human physical creature created by God to live in our universe…we just have not seen them yet. I mean, the universe is a big place.
5. An alien could be another heavenly creature created by God in addition to the angels. Some people call these inter-dimensional beings. And these creatures may be fallen and able to take on physical form when they enter our dimension.
Those are five possibilities you will run across if you study works by those people I mentioned.
Now let us think about alien abductions. We have not talked about abductions yet, but this is fascinating. Abductions attributed to aliens happen around the world, and the reports seem to be consistent across cultures. Most people who claim to be abducted by aliens report things like paralysis, bright lights, telepathic communication, levitation, and missing time. And in extreme cases, they report medical experiments that are often sexual in nature and may involve items implanted into the abductee. Many women claim they were forced to have a hybrid child who was taken from them at birth. And of these women, many report having multiple children.
Again, these are consistent stories told around the world with people in different cultures. And if we go back in history, we find accounts that sound a lot like this taking place thousands of years ago.
So how do we explain these phenomena? From a secular materialistic perspective, there have been clinical and psychological studies that look at things like sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a condition where your brain wakes up and your body does not. Many people experience this. Studies have shown that the symptoms of sleep paralysis sound a lot like alien abduction. Because of this, sleep paralysis is the most accepted natural explanation for the alien abduction phenomena.
But let us say that there is something more than sleep paralysis going on. Let us imagine that there are aliens. How then should a Christian understand what is happening during a reported alien abduction?
Well, it depends!
It depends on your view of the nature of aliens. For example, let us say that you believe that aliens are fully spiritual demonic creatures. If that is your conclusion, then there is no way that humans are getting kidnapped and taken to a physical alien laboratory for experiments.
However, a demon could play with a person’s mind and deceive them into thinking that all of this was happening. Interestingly, this would be a lot like sleep paralysis, and the secular community often attributes Christian stories of demonic harassment to, guess what? Sleep paralysis.
But what if you believe that reported aliens have one of the other four natures we mentioned earlier? Well, those four natures do allow for the possibility of physical interaction with humans. And it is at this point that we could go in many directions. For example, let us say that aliens are another race of beings created by God who found a way to travel to Earth. How did they get here? Why are they kidnapping people? We could ask question after question. And we could do the same thing for the other three natures until our heads are spinning.
Here is the truth of the matter…when it comes to finding answers about the reality or unreality of alien abductions, we have limitations. We are forced to rely on the testimony of people and whatever physical evidence might be found. Once we have that, we then examine the testimony and evidence considering Scripture, scientific analysis, logic, and God’s gifts to us of discernment and wisdom. That is what we have.
And in doing that, we find that because of what has been made available to date, there is a need for speculation…because we do not yet have enough for certainty. And in saying that, it becomes clear why we have devout Christians coming to different conclusions about aliens, and abductions, and spacecraft.
For example, let us now talk about spacecraft. If you believe that aliens are only demons without physicality, then what do you do when unknown things appear on radar, which indicates a physical presence? You either believe there is another deception, or something else is going on.
But if you believe that aliens are Nephilim returning like in Genesis 6 and the book of Enoch, then a spacecraft makes sense. In Episode 6 we talked about the Book of Enoch and how it describes the Watchers bringing technology to humans. If more Watchers are back, then maybe spacecraft is the new technology that they plan on sharing with us…for a price.
And to carry that further, if aliens are the return of hybrids, then abduction and experiments on humans makes sense. Taking hybrid children from women is another way to continue corrupting humans, just like in Genesis 6.
There is so much information and so many directions to go, with so many voices, that it is easy to get lost in this topic. So let me tell you where I have landed and you can decide what approach you want to take.
MY APPROACH
Right up front, I will tell you that when it comes to all the hysteria about alien visitations and government cover-ups…I have a healthy dose of skepticism. And here is why…God made me to be a very analytical person who enjoys science and discovery. My education is in physics, and I have spent over 40 years inventing mechatronic systems. So, I have some confidence that I know good data when I see it.
And when I look at all the UAP and related information that has been released by the Trump administration, and what Christians write about, and talk about…the hard, physical evidence, for an alien visitation in a tangible spacecraft is, in my opinion, under-whelming.
Now I want to be clear that I said, “hard, physical evidence.” I am not discounting the testimony by thousands of people who claim to have seen aliens or been abducted. In fact, there are so many reports that I believe something is happening. I am just saying that the hard physical evidence is lacking. Testimony is a valid form of evidence, and I do not discount it.
And yet, in saying that the “hard, physical evidence” is lacking, I am not saying that there is no physical evidence. We do see things on radar, and we do have blurry photographs. And we do have fragments of material which people claim came from spaceships or aliens. That is physical evidence, but it is limited and not verified to the point of scientific certainty.
In saying this, I am choosing to respectfully disagree with many Christians who claim there is evidence because they “know someone” who has seen the real physical evidence. And I am choosing to disagree with Christians who claim they have removed alien implants or have fragments of a spaceship. My analytical nature needs to see provable physical evidence, and I just have not seen it yet. That said, just one verifiable piece is all it will take to change my mind.
And so, we find ourselves in this interesting predicament. The lack of physical evidence with lots of testimony may very well point to a spiritual source. In fact, many abductees report being told messages that sound like an alien deception to point people away from Jesus.
But the existence of some blurry physical data may indicate that there is something beyond the spiritual. We do know from Scripture that angels can take on physical form and manipulate physical things. Could there be fallen intelligent beings coming from the spiritual realm with physical devices? I think it is totally possible. Or there could be another race of intelligent beings in the universe that God created.
The bottom line is that a Biblical worldview allows for many possibilities. If an alien spacecraft landed at the Whitehouse tomorrow with a creature from another planet, that should not be a problem for a Christian. Or if a fallen angel or other heavenly creature stepped out of a spacecraft and began to denigrate and mock Jesus, that would also fit within a Biblical worldview. The Bible clearly presents the reality of extraterrestrial beings.
AVOIDING THE DECEPTION
Taking all of this into account, this is how we avoid an alien deception:
First, we must keep the gospel central in all we do. When we grow closer to Jesus, we are growing closer to the truth. If we are close to Jesus, know what he has said to us through Scripture, and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, we will recognize an alien deception if that truly happens. The Holy Spirit has given us gifts of wisdom and discerning of spirits that can help us deal with this very topic.
Second, let us be humble and respectfully consider what other Christians are saying about the possibility of an alien deception. I have not spent thousands of hours examining all the data relevant to a discussion about aliens. But I can evaluate what is presented by Christians who have. I appreciate the years of study many of these Christians have undergone. At the same time, I appreciate that none of them have the whole picture because speculation is involved.
God has made us the Body of Christ, and it is a gift to the Church when a fellow believer has a skill and interest in a topic that is important to the Church. However, just like when we function in spiritual gifts, anyone called to expose something like an alien deception must function in humility with the understanding that they do not see the whole picture.
Third, God has given us brains to use. At any time, if new data appears that confirms or rejects a theory to bring more clarity…then awesome. We will act on that new data. This also requires humility. If new data destroys a pet theory, then one should humbly accept that and move in a new direction.
And finally, fourth, and I am surprising myself by ending here, it is very possible that an alien deception might never happen. In fact, we could be so focused on an alien deception that this belief itself keeps us from seeing what is really happening. And this lines up with the last episode when I asked if aliens are the next satanic panic.
I agree that there are a lot of signs that an alien deception is possible, but Christians have been talking about this for a very long time. In fact, in 1954 a Pentecostal evangelist wrote a book about men in flying saucers that seems to have started the modern conversation. But even Augustine wrote about “demons in the sky” over 1500 years ago.
The point I want to make is that Satan is a master deceiver, and distractions are one of his great weapons. And for as much as Christians have worried about this deception, it has not yet happened in the way it has been predicted. Of course, I realize it still could. But in our day, it seems equally possible that a great deception could come through artificial intelligence just as easily as aliens. We are going to look very silly if we have been focused on aliens only to have deception sneak in some way else.
That is why our number one protection to avoid an alien deception is to do what we do to avoid any deception. And that is to keep Jesus first.
