Hiking the Highline in Glacier National Park
Oct 04, 2022 Season 1 Episode 24

With more than 700 miles of trails, Glacier National Park is known as a hiking park. Maybe the signature hike is The Highline Trail.  The trailhead is at Logan Pass and almost immediately cuts a narrow path along a granite wall high above the Going-To-The-Sun Road. For nearly 8 miles you're hiking with views of unsurpassed beauty. The Highline takes you the heart of Glacier National Park to the Granite Park Chalet, built more than a hundred years ago by the Great Northern Railway to provide "comfortable" back country accommodations.  The chalet is also where infamous and tragic history was made in the summer of 1967.It's where a young woman was killed by a grizzly bear, one of two fatal grizzly attracks on the same night in Glacier.  Never before had there been a documented death by a grizzly in Glacier until then. You can read about it in the book "Night of the Grizzlies".
