Talking about how building new habits requires energy, because doing something without a habit requires decision energy.

Good morning everyone. This is Jeffy Kennedy, author of Fantasy and Romance, and all of the perfect places they intersect. I'm here with my first cup of coffee. Still weird. New coffee should come today. Yay, new coffee. Today is Friday, October 30th, and I am running late. I've got a SAFOA board meeting at 9, and it is now 8.45. So I will not be able to talk very long today. I had this bold and brilliant plan that I would write for an hour before the board meeting this morning. Yesterday was not a great day, word count-wise. I think I got something like 1,500 words. I could open it and see, but it doesn't really matter. It was a pulling teeth day for no good reason. And I was just feeling, I don't know, kind of run down. And you know, there's some days where it just feels like it's being forced. And so I threw in the towel eventually. Um I am opening this to see what I got because I haven't even opened any of my spreadsheets yet. So I did wake up at 5 30. I got 1634 yesterday, which I know I should acknowledge is still good. Still forward motion, just not what I wanted. So I thought, well, you know, if I could do an hour before the board meeting, then I would ramp up. And I did wake up at 5:30 and then put on my compression gloves, which is the first thing I do when I wake up. Sorry, I'm also eating breakfast because I'm running behind. Did I mention running behind? Um and oh, put on my compression gloves and fell asleep until 6 30. So, but I did run on the treadmill and I did take a shower and do makeup. I think I'm still getting used to adding something to my schedule. I think that's something that's really important to keep in mind about building habits. I should just like put my eggs aside, but do you guys mind the clicking? I'm sorry. You know, building a new habit also takes a lot of energy, and um it's almost like that decision energy, because until the habit is built, you have to keep using the decision energy to get there. So it's a little bit airplane-esque, but I picked a bad week to to build a new grooming habit. Um, because I think that also just all of the election-related stuff is just so exhausting. So I'll be glad when that's done. I'll be gladder if there's a positive outcome. And last night we watched the new Borat movie of the what subsequent movie, Borat subsequent movie, um, which was Sasha Baron Cohen's uh answer to a lot of Trump's America. He he got Pence and Giuliani on on in the movie, thinking suckered them in, thinking they were doing stuff. It's pretty funny. Um the movie itself was marginally funny. I did not find Borat the first time all that entertaining. But it was it was interesting to watch. I don't know, I don't know if I'd recommend. I mean, I guess I'd say for those of you who like that sort of thing, you it might be the sort of thing you like. David enjoyed it. Um it's and I'm glad that we watched it. It it was definitely the the Giuliani putting his hand down his pants with the pretty Russian girl was interesting. Apparently he claimed that that was just uh him removing the wireless device, but hard to say. Eggs are done with. So last night I did a Zoom meeting with the Follic Podcast Network people, a happy hour, which I was grumpy about doing because I didn't want to have to get on another Zoom meeting. I was talking with Leslie Penelope on chat a little bit about it. It's just like, you know, this whole socializing by Zoom on the computer after we've spent the day on the computer just does not feel like a fun thing. But then it turned out to be fun. And I'm happy to report that there was absolutely a lowered barrier that my hair and makeup was done. I had I did my yoga class yesterday afternoon, and then I pretty much uh went straight from yoga to doing the Zoom happy hour, and that was it was fun. It was fun chatting with everyone. So it might be the uh I don't know, the pandemic slash internet equivalent of the introvert reluctance to go to a party and then one should get there. It's fun and fine. So um, I don't know that I am have a lot to report, partly because my brain is empty today. Um yeah, I think I'm mostly thinking about things like habit and building new habits and how that takes up energy. I would have skipped today, except my mom would have been upset with me, and she had to go have some medical tests this morning, so we're thinking good thoughts for her. You know, like I have my notes on my phone. I know I talked about Laura Darnell yesterday and her question. You guys are always welcome to ask me questions. I know you don't necessarily have questions, so and this other thing I don't know if I want to get into it today. Um I'm waffling on it. I am you know I think I don't normally buy into Mercury and retrograde, but I think there's a lot of uh miscommunicating going on right now. I was supposed to be part of this Facebook giveaway, and that was supposed I was supposed to post the giveaway on Wednesday the 28th, and I'd sent it to Corine too, and I guess we both somehow thought it was the 29th, and I'd asked her yesterday if she could put it up for me or if I needed to, and we decided, oh, that I needed to, and then I was looking at it and I realized I'd missed it from the day before, and so I emailed the coordinator and said, uh, well, should I take down my post? Because I, you know, sorry, I don't know why we both thought it was had it for the wrong day, and she didn't reply to me, so I went ahead and left the post up and I had lots of comments. I was giving away three copies of the Fiery Crown, tons of comments, and I replied to people all day, which also takes energy and effort, and then someone took the post down overnight, so it's like, oh well, you know, thanks a lot for letting me know. So I'm I'm a little bit griped about that. But it was my fault, I just don't see why they had to take the post down. It could have been like one of the other administrators thinking that I was some interloper doing a thing. Who knows? But and let's see. I just don't I don't have a lot to say. Hmm. I think I'm just feeling a little depleted. I think um you know, it's just sometimes difficult to you know, as many people have found it hard to be creative during the pandemic, um, you know, it's struggling with the emotions of of it all. For me, it's less anxiety than just being so angry that our government so badly mismanaged this pandemic. So I think maybe um, you know, there was kind of like a lot of jokes in Borat that just weren't all that funny with to me because they were a little too real. And I think I might need something more escapish than that. So um I'm gonna have to turn around and get going to this board meeting, and I definitely need to make another cup of coffee for that. So I will bid you all adieu. Um apologies for being a little bit uh off today, but that's part of the verisimilitude, right? You know, that some days are down days, some days we are just not bright-eyed and wishy-tailed as we would like to be. So um I will talk to you all on Monday. I hope that you have a good weekend. I hope that you are able to find a respite and find some things that are rejuvenating for you that make you smile in a good way. And I will, oh, almost forgot to tell you that first cup of coffee is part of the Frolic Media Podcast Network. And you will find other podcasts you love at frolic.media slash podcasts. You all take care. Bye bye.
