A short episode today as I've been knocked off my pillow a bit, on the toll of chronic disease and dealing with prescriptions, and how the love bubble helps. Also I'm sharing this lovely artwork Assistant Carien gave me!
Good morning everyone. This is Jeffy Kennedy, author of Fantasy Romance. And Romantic Fantasy. I knocked off this speaker. Trying to put the times away. Well, that sets a tone. Today is, y'all say it with me, Friday! Woo! December 10th, 2021. How are y'all doing? Looking forward to the weekend? I think I even forgot to say I'm here with my first cup of coffee. I've actually been sipping at it so far because I was on the phone with um the to get one of my husband's prescriptions uh refilled early, which if you've been through that kind of thing, you know what a pain on the ass that is. So I've actually been on the phone for like half an hour being on hold and talking to different people and trying to get this true. So uh I cheated. Sorry you guys. It's still my first cup, it's just that I've been drinking it already. Um stormy morning here. It uh really roared in in the early hours of the morning. Um so it's like uh 22 degrees Fahrenheit with the wind chill blowing out there. Got a little bit of snow, maybe we'll get more. So good day to tuck you and write all the words. I need to write all the words. Um Gray Magic is flowing better. Uh a surprising thing happened in the story, you guys. Um Gabriel lost his temper. He's kind of lost his shit in front of everybody. Uh, but who can blame him? He's under a lot of pressure and several distressing things have happened. But um, it's always interesting when I think my characters are going to behave in particular ways, and then they have um a complete break and lose their shit. So uh where am I for the week? It's I've actually had a good week. Um, it does I haven't hit my goals, so it doesn't feel like it, but so far this is the second best week I've had in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, it in 12 weeks. Um and I may uh it may end up being the best week if today goes fairly well. Uh my best week in 12 weeks. So that's good. Um, I've gotten 16,793 so far on the book. I was gonna say this week is like, wait, that's past my goal. No, I've just gotten like 88, 23 words this week. But um, I have passed the scene one marker and closing in on the act one climax that won't happen obviously today. I could pause for a sneeze there. So um, yeah, so uh it's possible I'll um if I've got a 3,000 word day today, I could get up to like um almost 12,000 for the week, so that's not terrible. And I am on track to still finish drafting by the end of January, so hopefully that will all go okay. And then this weekend's gonna be dealing with gifts and Christmas shopping. Supposed to meet some friends tonight at a gallery opening uh down in Santa Fe, down in town. Um, but I may not go. It depends. If the roads are icky, I probably won't bother. It's not worth it. Though I would really like to see my friends because they've been gone since um beginning of November, and we have not laid eyes on each other for probably more than a month. So um I wanted to show you guys this. You may have glimpsed it behind me before, but uh assistant Corrine sent it to me for Christmas. Look at that, how perfect is that! It will come up even closer. If you are on audio only, it's a um an illustration. What is it, a watercolor? It's a watercolor, and it shows a um a witch, a young witch, in a green black hat, very much like the one that I wore for my Halloween costume. And uh she's sitting there with a cup of coffee in a pink mug with um a little heart on it, and she's she's very young looking. She has purple eyes and black lipstick, and she's looking up at her hat, and what at first glimpse appears to be a big pink swooshy feather on the hat uh turns out to be a pink cat who is somewhat upside down and smiling. I'm gonna bring that in really close so you can see the kitty's smile. Is that cute? Uh, I'll put a photo of it on the um podcast notes so you guys can see it. But uh, I think um I'm so tempted to make this be my new logo for first cup of coffee. I mean, do you guys see the resemblance here? I see the resemblance. And Jackson has more than once tried to climb up on top of my hats. Uh so it's not not impossible. Or even unlikely, unprecedented, all of these words. Uh, so let's see. I finished reading the the burnout book and I've now ordered it for all kinds of people. I'm giving it to like, I don't know, six or seven different women for Christmas. Yesterday at uh uh Writer Coffee. I convinced Jim Sorensen to get it for his wife, uh, who is a kick-ass trauma surgeon. But I was like, Ming Li needs to read this book. Ming Li would really get a lot out of it. So he messaged me last night and said that he had ordered her the heart back. I love that he got the heart back. And um, yeah, you know, I what else have I been doing? I've been listening to Dark Wizard on audio. And, you know, not a whole lot else. I'm trying to think about like um maybe sort of out of things. I I'm preoccupied with my husband not feeling good. He um has always had stomach issues, and one of the things that happens with the Parkinson's medication is it exacerbates acid and heartburn and uh acid reflux, which is like hits him right in his most vulnerable spot. So we're we're trying to deal with that, but um it it has made the last couple of days a little bit more difficult as far as getting word count in. But that's that's life, right? You know, you get back on your pillow. Uh Lexi, I love that you have incorporated get back on your pillow in your uh vocabulary. I feel like maybe we all need that little paperweights or t-shirts or something that say get back on your pillow. And um yeah, I mean, sometimes that's the best you can do, right? And get uh on with your life. One of the things that uh the this book that I like that I keep referencing, Burnout Breaking the The Secret to Unlocking the Stress Cycle, you know, is they talk about the importance of of be of connection, of being inside the love bubble. I love the love bubble as a concept. Um you know, being with the people who uh who love you and who who make you feel safe. And I think that that's sometimes something that we take for granted, but it's um it's an important thing. It would be a compelling reason for me to see my friends tonight, but uh maybe not compelling enough to make me venture out and onto icy roads if they're icy. We're we're kind of getting rain mixed with snow today, and then once that freezes, that means icy roads. So uh while I am capable of dealing with that, uh all those uh more than 20 years that I lived in Wyoming, we went everywhere anyway, despite the weather, because if you didn't, you know, the the weather would uh you would never go anywhere. So but one of the great luxuries of living in Santa Fe is that I don't have to do that. Um, because you could just wait and the next day I'll be fine. So I might take a rain check with them. We'll just see. Um yeah, I guess I don't have much else to say. I should I I should take like um reader questions or uh writer questions. Hmm. Hang on a moment. Well, I looked in a couple places to see if people had questions for me and they didn't. I think everybody's just like consumed with end of your madness. So I think today will just be a short episode rather than sitting here staring at each other. Um so hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Hope you uh get to enjoy seasonal things if you're doing seasonal things. And um I'll see you all on Monday.
