Hey it's Emily here from mumble road. You got two minutes, I bet you do. All I need is two minutes of your time each fortnight, why? I'm going to be dedicating this time to offering you tips, recommendations and advice to ensure that you can support your child in the very best way. I can't wait for this, let's do it, how to choose the best therapist or educator for your child. I get asked this a lot by parents who are confused about which support person they need in their child's lives. There's a couple of really clear rules that I recommend that you stick by to make sure that you're making the right decision for your child and your family. First of all, many allied health professionals work as a multidisciplinary team. That means that their skills crossover, sometimes we find that we may gel with one particular therapist more than the others, and I would go with your gut with this situation. Secondly, I would encourage you to understand when a therapist is listening to you, they need to actively listen to you when you explain to them your child's needs. When they do listen, they'll be able to tailor strategies to support your child in your family home. All the strategies in different homes will look slightly different. You will know when a therapist is tailoring strategies for your family because they will be in your family's capacity. If a therapist has actively listened to your story and understand your child's needs, you will be able to see that the strategies that they're suggesting are within your family's capacity. This is so important. If people recommend for you to do interventions and ideas that are beyond your capacity right now. That's essentially useless to helping your child make progress. Catch you next time. Thank you for two minutes of your time. Mum will Road is dedicated to creating a place of support and respect for all parents, particularly parents of children with additional needs. Keep an eye on my socials for the latest news. Remember, every road starts with small steps. I'm Emily from mumble road. Bye for now.
