Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year. In this episode I wanted to share an exercise that I recently read in the book "The 9 to 5 Millionaire" by Jemal King. I highly recommend. King makes this book very interactive, by including various exercises to keep the reader engaged. The exercise that I share in this episode is perfect to kick start 2022.
Hope you enjoy.

Hello, hello, hello, everyone. Happy New Year. It's New Year's Day here in New York City, and I am super excited to be here today. I hope everyone had a great celebration if they if you celebrated last night. I wish everyone nothing but happiness, success, and prosperity in the year 2022. I want us to take everything we learned, whether those were good lessons or bad lessons, all of our experiences, and use it to fuel our 2022 to have a successful, successful year. And I don't just mean um financially, I mean mentally and spiritually have a successful year. So today's topic is going to be really quick. I just finished the book called The Nine to Five Millionaire by Jamal King. I highly recommend it to people. And I also have a business on the side. And most of the times you hear people say, quit your job, quit your job, you know, quit your job and become a full-time entrepreneur. But full-time entrepreneurship isn't is not as uh attractive as you think it is, it's it's a lot of work because um you are solely the only person that's bringing in money, and why I I always encourage ownership as an everyone should own their own business. I do um appreciate my job, um, and I do want to make my business be successful. So I picked up the book because I it was like a it clicked with me because it's like, all right, I still work my job and I'm not quitting my job anytime soon, but I still want to make my business successful. How can I do that? And this book plays out um everything you could think of. He went through key mindset, he he gave us activities, different reflection points that um I'm definitely going to go back and go over just to just for my own personal development. But one activity that stuck out with me was he um asked for everyone to print out their credit card statements, print out their banker statements, get two highlighters or two different types of um pen of writing instruments that would help you um categorize these things, and you want to look at the bills that are fixed, which I always call fixed over like your rent, Cardison, highlight those bills and then highlight the discretionary. And this is like an eye-opener activity to um actually hold you accountable and keep you honest with your spending. Let's face it, we have a lot of people, a lot of Americans, or anyone in general, um, we have some pretty bad spending habits, you know, and it's because our culture uh magnifies consumerism, like our culture is all about buy, buy, buy, buy, buy. And even when we don't think we're falling prey to that, we are because it's like in our subconscious. So, what this activity is doing is making you look at what you've spent and holding you accountable for it, you know. I I always speak about you know, budgeting when you write your budget, you go back and you look over it. But this is like a bigger snapshot because now you're actually looking at every single miscellaneous thing you are spending your money on, and you're seeing it in black and white, and then the color like brightens it out and makes you face the face the music. So I I brought this activity on on the platform because I feel like for 2022, everyone is like pumped in January, they have resolutions. I'm gonna spend less, I'm gonna invest more in my retirement account, I'm gonna stop eating out, I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that, I'm gonna do that. But I felt like this activity will actually get you on your way because most times we say things, but we don't have action steps behind it, and this activity actually puts those action steps behind it. So, anyone on the platform that can hear my voice, you don't have to start today, but sometime this week, the first week of January, while the blood is pumping, why your um ambition is there, try this exercise. See, see really what you spend your money on, see what your um where you can cut down certain stuff. Like, I'm I'm quite sure you're gonna find some subscriptions and stuff that you haven't used since you signed up like two years ago. And when you take that off, you're gonna find some little extra money. And when you find that little extra money, put that in your savings account, put that in your investment account. Don't don't put it in your pocket, don't spend it because you was use um you didn't see it before anyway. So take this time this week as you wind down, as you reflect on everything 2021 has brought you, as you look at your 2022 goals and you see where you want to go. Take time out to go through your through your bank account statements, your credit card statements, look at what you spend your money on, find ways to either reduce it or push more towards you know, retirement planning, um, household emergency savings. Do so be very creative with your um your money, be intentional with your money. So, my name is Sam. I run a financial planning practice, no fee base. Um, if you would like to work with me, you can um send me an email at sam at smplanninglc.com. And yeah, everyone have a great day.
