Your business may appear steady from the outside while your body is already picking up the early cues of a burnout cycle.
The pressure builds exponentially, your energy tightens, and the pace around you grows heavier than anything you planned for. These experiences often emerge when overworking becomes familiar and the foundation for a more sustainable rhythm is still forming.
In this episode, I’ll guide you into the foundations of a sustainable business grounded in balanced energy and steady leadership. You’ll explore how your feminine and masculine energy shape your decisions, how the divine feminine and divine masculine influence your internal state, and how these dynamics form the business structure you move through each day.
As these layers come into view, the patterns behind your behavior start to make more sense. It becomes easier to recognize how much of your work is shaped by unconscious tendencies linked to your business archetype. These tendencies weave themselves into your planning, your rest, your decision-making, and your overall energy alignment, often directing your actions before strategy even enters the conversation. They also influence your client attraction, your emotional bandwidth, and your ability to maintain momentum over time.
You’ll hear how strengthening your entrepreneurship mindset creates more stability and supports the kind of leadership that feels clear and sustainable. You’ll learn how small shifts (like setting aside a weekly CEO Day) can refine your focus, support your planning, and bring your energy back into a regulated, intentional place.
This conversation expands your vision for work-life balance by showing what becomes possible when your internal state and external systems work together. Growth becomes more grounded, your week carries a steadier cadence, and your business begins to support the life you’re creating with far more ease.

Vanessa Ann Miller: I'm going to show you how to grow your business in a way that actually feels sustainable by balancing structure and flow, strategy and intuition, and action and stillness. A lot of women feel such a contraction in their body when they think about structure, and I have a beautiful story that I heard from one of my instructors in the program that I'm in that really shows the metaphor of how structure can provide stability for you and actual flexibility as well.
So, this isn't about working less or doing more. It's about creating a rhythm, a way of running your business that supports your energy instead of drains it. So let's dive in.
Here's what I notice in almost every woman entrepreneur I work with. The longer I work with them, they end up going through these cycles. This is something that takes time to break through as you peel back the layers and understand what it looks like at every single level. Every time a woman feels in flow, she ends up yanking herself back into control. So much control where she stresses herself out, she rebels, she sabotages.
It's like every time she gets structure, she rebels against it. It makes me think of those romantic dramas, sometimes even romantic comedies, where the woman has so much pain from maybe a father that abandoned her or something in her childhood, where she wants to find love, then she finds someone and then she messes it up because of her behavior, she pushes him away.
Like, that is exactly how I see some women show up in their business. When they finally have the support of a structure and they're getting into a flow and they're feeling some freedom, they end up rebelling against it.
I can already see you right now, you're driving in your car and you're nodding your head because at some level this resonates with some past version of you or maybe even something that you're going through right now. And I don't know any business coach that is teaching this, because they're either in a rigid structure or they're so woo-woo that there is no container to be able to hold the creativity and to be able to really create momentum in the business because there's no forward action.
But when you combine structure with flow, when you allow flexibility, but then you also allow the structure to hold you. That's when you create some peaceful progress. That is when you can actually create momentum, scale your business because you have a process that holds you, but you also allow yourself to tap into intuition, to tap into creativity, to be able to lean back and not be so rigid in your business.
When you combine structure with flow, you stop the constant push and pull and start experiencing consistent growth.
Here's how this imbalance usually shows up whenever we are in a distorted energy. And so when you take my quiz, "What Is Your Business Energetic Archetype?", what you're going to find is that there's four different types of energies that we show up in.
There is the Shadow Feminine Energy, the Shadow Masculine Energy, the Divine Feminine Energy, and the Divine Masculine Energy. But when we are unable to get out of the shadow and get into a balance, a harmony of knowing when to go into the Divine Feminine and knowing when to go into the Divine Masculine, we can be stuck in the shadows.
And those shadows are what's really holding us back from fully actualizing our potential and having a business that feels good. And when I say feels good, I'm not just saying like, ooh, I feel so happy and joyful, but it feels in integrity, you feel lit up by your business and you're getting the results.
It's not one of those things where you're making the money and because you're making the money, you're feeling good about yourself. It's like you are able to surrender and trust that even when you're maybe not making the money right now, you're still enjoying the process because you know at some point the money's going to come through.
So here's how this imbalance usually shows up whenever you're in the shadow. You're organized, but maybe you're overworked. So, a lot of times that is a blend of maybe the Divine Feminine and being in the Shadow Masculine Energy. Everything is color-coded, but you still feel behind.
Or maybe you're creative and inspired, but your ideas stay in your notes app instead of turning into revenue. Right there, that is being in the Shadow Feminine. You have all these ideas, but you don't know how to put them into action.
And a lot of times women actually end up between both. They get on this pendulum swing, is what I call it. They have these bursts of motivation, followed by exhaustion where they slow down and they don't do anything. And then they beat themself up because there's no money coming in, there's no results, they're not attracting clients, maybe there's not even any engagement. Maybe they're not even putting content out there. And so then they're like, oh my gosh, I need to get back to work. And then because they slow down so much, they're really putting on the gas and they're going on overdrive and trying to make up for the slowdown.
Now, this is not because a lack of strategy. You have the best strategy, you probably have spent a lot of money perfecting your strategy. But this is actually because your nervous system doesn't feel safe sustaining success.
So, what ends up happening, just kind of going back to like the metaphor of that woman where she wants love, she wants to be married, or she wants the romance or whatever, but in her neurology, she doesn't feel safe to have that. She doesn't feel safe to open up to someone or be vulnerable, to have someone hold her. Well, the same thing happens in business. We think that if we have the structure or things are so good, then at some point the shoe's going to drop, something's going to end up happening.
You see, what that actually does is that it puts fear into our focal point.
And so while things are going good, and we are in the back of our minds actually afraid that something bad's going to end up happening, we end up attracting that, because we're installing this idea into our Reticular Activating System. And the Reticular Activating System is going to look for evidence in our awareness. It's going to look for evidence in our reality to prove us right.
And so while things are going great, but in the back of our mind or our inner talk, we're saying that this feels too good to be true, at some point something's going to happen. Either I'm going to get a flat tire, I'm not going to have the money for it, or I'm going to attract a client that I do not like, etc., etc. Whatever the narrative is, we end up getting that.
But when we can know when we are in the Shadow Patterns, when we can acknowledge it, then we can easily get out of the trance of those. But when we are unaware of what that looks like in business, we get sucked in more and more.
This is why you might see someone that has been trying to build their business for years and they just can't seem to catch a break. And even when they are on the verge of catching that break, they end up shutting down and they're not seeing the opportunities that are just right around the corner and they end up pivoting.
Most of us were raised to believe success only comes through hard work, that if you're not exhausted, then you're not doing enough. And so when we are training ourselves or when we're living by that programming, we keep getting resistance, we keep getting hard work and so that keeps us in the Shadow Masculine Energy, of overworking, of trying to control everything until the point where we're like, I can't do this anymore. And then we go into the Shadow Feminine Energy where we just want to be rescued.
I'm going to give you some examples of what each of the four energy types looks like. But your nervous system hears that as rest is unsafe, ease is lazy. How many times have you told yourself, 'I have to be doing something. I have to keep going or otherwise my family's going to think I'm lazy, or I can't be resting when someone else is working. I can't be doing this because my husband is working today, so I need to be at home at least cleaning the house. I need to be at least prospecting,' you know, we tell ourselves that narrative and it really causes a lot of stress on our nervous system and on our brains.
So even when you want balance, you subconsciously create chaos, because chaos feels familiar. I have so many people tell me that they thrive in chaos, and their life is a hot mess. They're always trying to catch up. They're going from feast and famine. It just never feels like they can be safe in the stillness, be safe in the success. They keep chasing away that success.
And that success is only created through feeling safe in the structure. And feeling safe with executing, and trusting that just because you have this structure and you have a system, doesn't mean that it's going to put you in a box and that you're not going to be free.
This is exactly how you achieve that time freedom, that choice freedom.
There's a story that I heard from an instructor in a program that I'm in and she talked about a short story called "The Bound Man". In this short story, a man was bound by ropes and he was in the circus. People would come from all over the place to watch how beautifully he moved within these ropes. He was so graceful. He had this agility to him where he was just able to move so fluidly despite being confined by these ropes.
Well, one day, he was cut free from these ropes. He assumed that when he was free from these ropes, he was able to move even more gracefully. But what he found was that he couldn't. The ropes were what actually supported him and helped him in moving with such grace and agility.
So, if you ever feared structure, if you ever heard the word structure and immediately you contracted or felt anxiety, trust that structure is not meant to confine you or restrict you, but it's meant to hold you so that you can move with grace.
So it makes sense when women reject structure because part of having structure means that you have the opportunity to then have rest. And if rest feels unsafe, and ease feels like you're lazy, then you're going to self-sabotage.
On the other hand, some people swing too far in the other direction, manifesting, vision boarding, waiting for clarity, but never moving. Neither extreme works. What actually creates sustainable growth is a blend of both.
Before you can integrate these energies, you first must know what each energy looks like because you're already operating from both, whether you realize it or not. So whether it is the shadow of the Masculine and the Divine of the Feminine, or maybe the shadow of both.
So let's dive into what each of these energies look like. We'll start with the Shadow Masculine Energy. This is the Overcontroller. The woman who micromanages every task.
You might be micromanaging things to the point where you don't even delegate and so you're unwilling to expand your business by hiring a team. You want to do everything yourself. This usually is because a woman is tying her worth to her productivity. And she is making decisions out of scarcity or lack.
She definitely mistakes urgency for importance. So, everything is important to her. And so if everything's important to her, then she must do it on her own. She's the one saying, "If I don't do it, it won't get done right."
In business, it looks like over-delivering for clients to prove your value, measuring success only by your output, like how much you're actually doing and not the actual result. It also looks like struggling to delegate or release control, like I had mentioned before. And so the result is that she's constantly on, but never at ease. Her business feels like it's built on her back, not her systems.
Now, the opposite, the Divine Masculine Energy, is that she is a Grounded Leader.
She builds systems not to control, but to create safety and stability.
And when you have this safety and stability, you can create predictable revenue and have more white space. Her structure becomes her freedom. Her boundaries create balance.
So in business, it looks like clear communication and delegation, systems that keep things running when she's off, actually disconnecting on the weekends or in the evenings, and going on vacation without feeling like she has to work. A constant rhythm that replaces anxiety with confidence. It also looks like her having a constant rhythm that replaces anxiety with confidence.
Now, the Shadow Feminine Energy, what that looks like is that she is a woman who's an Overgiver.
She's a people-pleaser. She leads with empathy but forgets her own needs. She's the type of woman that is doing everything for everyone else, and then at the end of the day, she feels resentful or depleted. She's constantly creating but rarely completing.
In business, it looks like taking every client because she doesn't want to disappoint anyone, or she's waiting to feel ready before taking action. And worst of all, she's hiding behind busy-work like planning or perfecting. And this results in momentum-leaks, energy-drains, and income-plateaus.
The opposite of that is Divine Feminine Energy. This is the Intuitive Creator.
She's magnetic, grounded, and deeply in tune with her natural rhythm.
In business, it looks like knowing which opportunities are aligned and which are distractions, and being able to say yes to the right ones and no to the ones that don't light her up.
She creates content that feels alive and effortless. She is so magnetic and so sovereign that people can't help but like her. They're gravitated to how she shows up. She balances her workload with time for rest and reflection. Her presence alone becomes her marketing. It's just there's something about her that people are drawn to.
So we have both feminine and masculine energies and we're operating or you know, moving back and forth between them. But are you in your Shadow Feminine and Shadow Masculine? Or are you in your Divine Feminine, Divine Masculine?
When you take my quiz, you can find the one that you operate the most in. So if you get a Divine Feminine Energy, well, that's wonderful. You need to make sure that you're also supporting that energy with the Divine Masculine, the structure that holds her so she can be creative and she can flow and have the freedom.
The Divine Feminine is what's going to attract; it's the creator of all the beautiful ideas that you have. She gets inspired, and then with this idea and this inspiration, she goes to her divine feminine and says, 'This is what I want to create,' and he goes to work, or, not he, but it goes to work, that that part of you goes to work and takes action, and takes action from a place where it understands how to delegate. It understands like the strengths and the talents it has and then when to get support. So it's not like going over-delivering and doing all the things. It's a very grounded energy with boundaries and confidence.
And as I mentioned before, most women running businesses swing between the two shadows, overworking and then over-resting. But real mastery happens when you integrate the divine sides of both, the structure that holds you, the flow that fuels you. That's when your energy becomes steady, your strategy sticks, and your sales become predictable.
In fact, sales become a lot more, and in fact, sales become easier because you are in this magnetic energy that people are so drawn to you, that there's not very much heavy-lifting that you have to do. You're so grounded and so sovereign in your power.
Even one shift like having a weekly CEO Day for structure and a Goddess Day for rest can completely change how your business feels and performs.
When you take my quiz, "What's Your Business Energetic Archetype?", you're going to get access to my Balance Workweek Method. And this method is going to show you how to set up your workweek so you have the routines and rituals to be able to support both the part of you that wants to be creative and have flow and flexibility, and the part of you that knows that structure is going to help you get the that structure's going to help you achieve the level of revenue that you desire while still having that white space.
When you adopt this philosophy and you integrate these two energies, your Divine Feminine and your Divine Masculine, your business will start running on a rhythm. You're going to get into a cadence that feels really good. There's not going to be that start-and-stop.
There's going to be a flow where you know your capacity. You'll allow yourself to take a day off without the guilt. You'll be able to step back into your business when you're going on vacation and not feeling like you have to restart everything again because you're getting again into a cadence, into a rhythm and a structure that allows you to thrive.
And you can spend your evenings present with your family because your business isn't demanding your every thought. It's no longer consuming your mind because you can release and surrender and trust that things are working out for your good. That's what true balance looks like. Not 50/50, but harmony that evolves with you.
If this resonated with you, if you're ready to create consistent 15k to 25k months without feeling like you have to be on 24/7, I'd love to help. This is exactly what we do inside Your Six Figure Year. We align your systems, structures and subconscious patterns so clients feel easier to attract and success feels sustainable.
