SPEAKER_05I'm Shelly. I'm Matt.
SPEAKER_01Was that audible? It was audible. I'm Matt. Okay. Welcome to the show. Yeah, welcome to Little Bracket of Horrors. But yeah, this week we got the taking of Deborah Logan. Oh yes. But before we jump into that, you guys, uh, did you guys watch anything scary or anything scary happen to anybody?
SPEAKER_05No, not here.
SPEAKER_00Well, the only thing that's scary that happened to me, well, didn't happen to me was my son. Oh. Took a nasty spill on his bike.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I saw the pictures.
SPEAKER_00Had to get stitches in his chin, got his uh braces stuck inside of his mouth. So if it wasn't for that, we probably wouldn't have gone to the ER. We were there from like 6 30.
SPEAKER_01Most people don't go to the ER for yeah. Well, little cuts and scrapes and stuff.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, yeah. So we uh we sat there from 6 30 till about 2 30 in the morning, so that was fine. That hurts.
SPEAKER_05That's scary.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's a pain in the butt, but he's doing fine. He's alright.
SPEAKER_01Did you see any did you see any crazy people in the waiting room? Like hospital waiting rooms are just crawling with insane people.
SPEAKER_00Well, there was a guy there that we were getting kind of pissed off with because uh we felt like he was just taking up uh room because you get put into a room. Yeah. So he was there because he couldn't breathe, but yet he was walking around talking to people and saying, Man, I've been here for for six hours just sitting here waiting, man. I don't know what the heck's going on. I'm like, You should just go home. Yes.
SPEAKER_05Clearly he can breathe, breathe enough to walk around and talk.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, and complain to the nurses about how long he's taking. So but uh yeah, and then there's uh there's a another gentleman there who um doesn't know volume control on his phone while he's watching his war movies. Oh no, so that was fun too. So but uh but yeah, that was it. That's that was a bit my scary uh he's gonna be okay though. The guy you're gonna do. No, you're side.
SPEAKER_01I don't care about the war movie guy.
SPEAKER_00No, yeah, he'll be good. He'll be good.
SPEAKER_05Well, and oddly enough, great segue because our movie does take place in a hospital. Yeah, sure.
SPEAKER_01At some point there's a lot of hospital scenes, that is correct.
SPEAKER_05Great, great backdrop for for scary things. Thanks, Daniel.
SPEAKER_01Yay! Good segue, Daniel. You guys ready to get into it?
SPEAKER_05No. I'm ready.
SPEAKER_01Let's do it. Dig up the bones. We just give a brief little synopsis on it. And Matt, I believe uh you're gonna take us on a journey. It's my department, right?
SPEAKER_00Take us on a journey, Matt. Mia and Gavin and Louise are a documentary team set to create a documentary about Deborah Logan, an elderly woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease. Deborah is reluctant to film but agrees to the project after her daughter Sarah reminds her that they need the money to keep the house from being repossessed. But what they discover is something far more sinister going on.
SPEAKER_01Nice. We all three were on the same page. Matt, you watched the film already? A few times, yeah.
SPEAKER_05So this was a Matt recommendation for the list. It was my first time viewing.
SPEAKER_01Mine too. So how did you feel going into it? Did you know?
SPEAKER_05Well, I think for one, if you if you listen to last week's episode, we lost our minds after the wheel picked this movie, but it had been a rough first two weeks.
SPEAKER_02Right. So we were ready quotes.
SPEAKER_05We were ready for I think a mix-up, and Deborah Logan brought it to us.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um I'll I all I knew, I well, I knew really nothing until I watched a trailer.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I knew nothing about the movie.
SPEAKER_01Did you watch the trailer before you watched the film?
SPEAKER_05No.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_05No, so um everything kind of was like I went on I went in with virgin brain and eyes.
SPEAKER_01Body parts. Body parts, yeah. Yeah, I I was so I knew it was about a lady with the Alzheimer's. I did not know it was gonna turn into like a possession style film. I knew that like creepy things were happening, but uh I was when I watched the film, I was like, oh, cool, this is fun.
SPEAKER_05I will say when I first started watching it, the first thing I did was I looked up the movie The Visit. I thought that it looked very much like that.
SPEAKER_03Cool.
SPEAKER_05And I was I was thinking one had to influence the other. So I I looked to see when the visit came out, and I want to say it was these were both around the same time. I thought we were going in that kind of direction. Yeah. Just old people going crazy. But we went somewhere else.
SPEAKER_01That we did. Alright, so let's move on to our round table discussion. Feasting, feasting, feast, being being. And in this we, you know, we just discuss overall pros, cons, favorite lines, most enjoyable slash annoying character, favorite kill slash scare, and then you know, just uh chop it up between the three of us. Let's kick it off with the pros. Shelly.
SPEAKER_05Alright. Well, I have mentioned before, I'm not a huge fan of found footage, but more or less the camera angle for found footage as a found footage film, which I didn't know it was until I started it. It was very well done as far as the camera shakiness, how they cut it together. So that actually didn't bother me at all. I liked it as far as a found footage film goes. I love the story and the twist. I'm I'm not gonna go too much into the twist. Yes, but it had decent actors to portray the story, which helped. Um, the one actress, she I remember her very distinctly, the girl who played Sarah, um, Ann Ramsey from A League of Their Own.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So it was cool to see her in a role like that. Um, the special effects makeup, all practical. Yeah. There was no real like green screen or like CGI. All their their tricks and stunts and makeup was all traditional special effects, which for a mid-2000s, what it was like 2017?
SPEAKER_01Uh 2015. 14 or something. We're we're all over the place.
SPEAKER_05We did it. Um I want to say like they had the opportunity to use um screen screens or you know computer animated, and they went practical, pretty much everything.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the only I think the only thing that was like CGI'd, but it was done really well, was that funny? But was it scene?
SPEAKER_05But was it? We may want to look it up. You could build a piece like that if you wanted to, but I mean I just assumed, yeah. Um and I think my biggest pro takeaway is I I get a lot of questions as a as a avid horror film about um people wanting to get into horror. And I think this movie is a great horror stepper stepping stone.
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_05Good story, good found footage. The scares, although there aren't like I I watch worse, like The Nun, where I have anxiety. I can't watch that. Um this, like you kind of can tell when that scare is gonna happen, but they're not like in your face loud. It might be just be her standing there, like, hey, yeah, and you're like, oh well, she wasn't there before. So I think this as a movie as a whole with the story, the effects, the scary, the horror. If you're looking to get into horror films, it's a good starter movie. So those are mine. Matt?
SPEAKER_00So I put entertaining. I thought it was entertaining, great suspense. Uh you never really know what's what's gonna happen whenever she's in a room. And then I put great scares. I thought the scares were good. Like you said, for a beginner, this is not to me. I mean, I've seen some horror movies. This is not like the craziest horror movie you'll you will ever see. Great starter, like Shelly said. I would absolutely agree.
SPEAKER_05I would suggest it to anyone who if they walked up to me and said, I want to get into watching horror movies, I'm gonna use one of these as my I usually say like gremlins. Oh yeah, gremlins is good. Yeah, uh child's plays and a bad one. But if you want to get a little bit more scary, I would totally suggest this movie now. Yeah maybe not to like sometimes it's like moms of teens that ask me a lot. Oh, and that's when I give like gremlins and and child's play.
SPEAKER_02That is interesting.
SPEAKER_05Maybe I wouldn't do this one. I maybe tell them to like skip one or two scenes, but that's all you would need to skip.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so I'm gonna jump to Derek. Yeah, go ahead. My pros. I'm with Matt. I thought there were a lot of you know good jump scares, and obviously we'll get into it, but the final scare slash kill scene was phenomenal. And to Shelly's point, the practical effects, like the so there are two scenes where Deborah ripped her skin. Yeah, and those scenes were awesome and practical, and they really were amazingly shot and amazingly done by the effects crew with the skin rips. It was so cool. Also, did you guys there were two Easter eggs?
SPEAKER_05No, did you guys get it? I didn't I wasn't looking for Easter eggs or knew what they would be.
SPEAKER_01So I wasn't looking for anything, but I thought I saw something in the scene where sh uh Deborah's at the switchboard. Oh yeah and she's conjuring with D. Chardonnay, when when there's like that explosion and there's like that static for a second, there's a cutaway, and I have the Oh I did see it.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. I did see the cutaway.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it was it was D J I I believe it was D. Hardine's uh head, decapitated head, which ended up being in the world.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I did catch that. I didn't I don't I guess I wouldn't think of that as an Easter egg, but I did catch it. Kind of like Exorcist.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's where you're going there. And then at an hour, eight minutes, and twenty-two seconds after they attempt so they've they found D. Hardine's decapitated head in the attic. They knew they were like, Oh, we have to burn it because that's what the anthropologist Yeah, the professor, whatever it was. He that's what he said had to be done. So they went to burn it in the fireplace of the house, and then there was the explosion, they got kicked back, and in that moment was that moniken snake ritual where it's like eating itself. That that flashed up real quick. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I did the same thing. I went through and I'm like, I know because because when I first saw it, I'm like, there's some like you can tell, like this little figure comes out or whatever. So as I'm watching, I'm like, pause, pause, pause, pause, pause, pause, place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's exactly what I did. I was pausing it the exact minute.
SPEAKER_00Then I snagged a picture of it on my phone, so that's what I was showing.
SPEAKER_01I was trying to, and I couldn't, it wouldn't let me. I was like, yeah, I give up.
SPEAKER_00I'll just get this, I didn't get the uh serpents eating themselves.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that was that was at an hour, eight minutes, and twenty two seconds. There you go. But I I thought those were fun because you know, Exorcist, like the flash of the oh, what was that? Like just kind of spooky, yeah, but uh, you know, not really punching you in the face with it. Right. So that was fun. And then as as the last part of my uh pro, the consistency of the found footage, like anytime you saw them talking to someone and there was like a glass like window behind there was a reflection, it was either Mia or Lewis or Gavin. I was like, that's cool. Like it didn't take me out of it. It like kept me in, like, oh, this is their they're recording this stuff, this is awesome. So I enjoyed the consistency of it because I was like, they're staying solid.
SPEAKER_05I noticed that too, and that's why I liked it too. Not not only that, they weren't they I think it was practical to think that you know when you look at like your Blair Witches or Hellhouse LLC, they're constantly like I mean you can't see me.
SPEAKER_00I'm like jumping out jiggling the camera.
SPEAKER_05I'm like, that is not how people hold cameras. Yeah, like you don't need to do that to make us like realize that someone's holding it. And this was more practical as far as yeah, you're gonna be standing still and just holding the camera.
SPEAKER_00So just hold the camera. Just do that, just be a human being, you're not a monkey for you.
SPEAKER_05You're not walking around like everyone's riding a horse.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so you guys want to move on?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, you want to kick off the cons?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'll do cons. So cons. The reason for everything wasn't clear to me. I th I didn't know if she was possessed by Dehardine or if it was some sort of monikan spirit, because like she was turning into a snake lady, but that's he's just a pediatrician. Like, how is how is the possession of him turning her, making her like get the scaly back stuff when uh she went to the hospital and like she's she's got some sort of condition on her back, and and then uh in the hospital when she escapes, she like loses her skin in her hand like a snake.
SPEAKER_00And then obviously was there an explanation of D. Hardine's like situation?
SPEAKER_01No, he was just he he had Lou Garrick's disease.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he wanted to cure his illness. So he thought by sacrificing um all the blood of the girls and the snakes that because of the the the monarchy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. It was a moniken uh snake ritual that he was trying to complete that was supposed to give him immortality.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, yeah. Right, right.
SPEAKER_05So that was but to your point, I didn't really catch on to the snake features until the second watch, so that like like that isn't clear that she is turning into a snake unless you watch it exactly multiple times.
SPEAKER_01So next thing to your point, so that uh where you had a pro, it's a con for me, so found footage just across the board. I don't like found footage films. Yeah. Just because like when the scenes are building up in their climax, it's like all shaky, yeah, and like it gets chaotic. And I'm just like, I want to see the scene, which is you know, something that they sort of set up with the uh security cameras that Lewis put up in the house. I was like, oh cool, we're gonna catch some like still good shots of like some chaotic stuff. But the part where she was up in the attic and the switchboard exploded, still like fuzzy and shaky, and it was all over the place. But that's that's just it's not my taste. Yeah. And then Dr. Nazir. So after the switchboard, and she makes a house call and she comes and she's talking to Sarah, Mia, the whole crew. Who does she give this the sedative to? She gives it to Mia, the college student filming the documentary, not her caretaker. Yeah, Sarah doesn't get the sedative, not her daughter, yeah. Sarah doesn't get it, the college student does. No one's like, what is she doing? She oh, and also a point to the doctor. That hospital is also ridiculous. The fact that college kids are coming in there with cameras left and right, and they can't stop them. They're like, get out of here, you're not allowed in here, but they're just like barge in. And also, and we'll get to it at the end. But uh, a little girl gets stolen twice from the hospital. So that that hospital is a fucking joke. Worst hospital ever.
SPEAKER_05See, I just thought she gave her uh Mia the sedative because she was a doctor's like a student getting her medical. So she was like, here, let me give it to the medical student.
SPEAKER_01You know, that's a good point. That's a good point. I didn't think that was. Still her caretaker.
SPEAKER_05Something, right?
SPEAKER_01I know, I know. But anyways, but maybe that was and I missed that. So that's that's interesting. But yeah, but that's that's it for my cons. Whoever wants to jump in. Oh, Matt, let's take it away.
SPEAKER_00Go ahead, Matt. So I said uh the acting was average. I thought it wasn't like stellar performance or anything like that. However, I did think uh Deborah Logan's character was really good. Joel Larson, I believe.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yeah, she was phenomenal.
SPEAKER_05I thought she did a really oh like when she was sitting at the piano and like just creepily stares. I was like, ah, that's perfection.
SPEAKER_01She was playing London Bridge. Yes, falling down. Well, then when she's getting her little creepy.
SPEAKER_00When she's getting her hands cleaned, and Mia's.
SPEAKER_05She goes from like looking concerned and then like it's like straight creepy staring.
SPEAKER_00It was like straight on creepy staring, like like she was ready to just like snap Mia's neck or something. It was like just vicious. I thought that was cool. And then uh I get I guess uh I guess it's not so much of a con, but just the ridiculousness of the lights not being on anywhere.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00I didn't understand. Like, why the hell? Is it like six o'clock? Lights are out in the whole city, even the fucking hospital, the lights are out everywhere.
SPEAKER_05And they can't turn them on. No, they're just so they're not allowed to turn them on. They have flashlights.
SPEAKER_01I think the only one who attempts to turn any lights on is Lewis when he goes up to the attic. He's the only one who's like, fucking light switch doesn't work. Everyone else is just like, nope, we're going into dark rooms.
SPEAKER_00That's how it is. No reason to try. And and shoddy flashlights, too. Do they even have flashlights? Oh, yeah. Yeah, they did.
SPEAKER_05They all because they can't turn the light switches on.
SPEAKER_00So they're in 2014. They they did have LED flashlights, by the way. These are like your you know, everyday flashlights, plastic, you know, pieces shit.
SPEAKER_05Well, in the house, they had little tiny ones, just like the little mag lights. Yeah. Light switches, but mag lights.
SPEAKER_00Little baby flashlights. So that's you know, the silliness of that part, I guess, is my is my is one of my cons. So how about you, Shelly? What do you got?
SPEAKER_05Um, I agree with Derek. Although I really enjoyed this as a found footage, the whole ending like 15-20 minutes is very chaotic.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And it's vomit-inducing how much they're running with the camera.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It makes sense why they're running now, like in the Blair Witch-esque running around, but like the one of the coolest effects, you're like barely saw it because the camera was like, whoa!
SPEAKER_01Yeah. As far as that final scene, like it being how it was shot, I feel like it was really good. But like, even though I'm not for the found footage stuff, but I thought that it just added to the craziness of it because it's just like this is just uh a video game. Was crazy. Yeah, it was super intense, which I can't wait to get into. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, and also another con is I wanted the scares to be a little bit more jumpier. Like, great for first-time horror watchers, but for like someone who likes to feel something. I like to feel.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, you know, I I like Derek was like, we're gonna get some really good like paranormal activity with the mounted cameras, and there was really nothing that scary.
SPEAKER_01There was that one uh scene in the beginning, not to keep jumping all over you.
SPEAKER_05You yeah, go for it, Derek, jump on me. Jump on me.
SPEAKER_01But uh that scene where she was in the kitchen uh after that she flipped out on Gavin because he she said that he stole her spade, and it showed that like she was just standing in the kitchen and then she was all of a sudden transported to the top of the stove. And the time doesn't lapse. Yeah, and it was just like holy cow! And then uh as far as like jumps scares and that stuff, there was probably like two or three, like the first time I watched it, where it like actually like jumped, and I was like, Oh, cool. Like, I haven't done that in a while, but I also haven't watched a jump scare movie in a while.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I didn't yeah, nothing really got me like jumpy. There was some like stress-inducing the way they were panning the camera, and you're like, oh god, oh god, oh god, oh god. But nothing like I didn't finish. Yeah. Let's just say that. You'd be like, oh god, oh god, I got oh, she's right there.
SPEAKER_01You just you just gonna keep uh getting edged throughout the old movie. Motherfuckers.
SPEAKER_05And then my last one was I could have done without the old lady boobs. There it is. I said it. I said it.
SPEAKER_01I was trying to be respectful.
SPEAKER_05Miss Shelley, who talks about not finishing, hates the nudity so far.
SPEAKER_01And the butt. We've got a boob. We've had we've had so much in the previous films. I was like, you know, equal opportunity, we're gonna get some old lady boob too.
SPEAKER_05From what I was saying, we're new first time horror, like younger teen generation getting into horror, like this movie's perfection. Oh, wait, they showed the old lady's boobs.
SPEAKER_00A couple times, too. Yeah, and when she was at the piano, and then when they take her down after that or whatever, and she's she's got her shirt open. That didn't that didn't bother me nearly as much as you know some of the other things.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, well, it wasn't wasn't mild. It wasn't sexual at all.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, there's no and it's so quick that you could skip it. It was very clinical, I think. Right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's funny because we we had a little watch party with our friends and family, and your son and his friend Tyler were there, and we sat through that scene, and no one made a weird noise or anything.
SPEAKER_05Well, because it's old lady boobs.
SPEAKER_01That's no.
SPEAKER_05That's what you think of when you don't want to get excited. You're like old lady boobs.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00That's it.
SPEAKER_05That's all I got. Nice.
SPEAKER_00I I almost felt like those scenes just were were very casual. Like it just didn't it didn't phase me. Like, yeah, she went up, she lost all of her clothes as she's going up the stairs. Yeah, yeah. And it just was like, okay, whatever. That didn't affect me.
SPEAKER_05Not all nudity is casual to everybody.
SPEAKER_00Well, you you haven't been in my house in the morning.
SPEAKER_01Oh, geez.
SPEAKER_00Very casual.
SPEAKER_01I know when I'm not coming over.
SPEAKER_00Right. Perfect.
SPEAKER_01Not inviting ourselves.

SPEAKER_05Anyways, I think Nex's favorite line. Yeah, it is. Is that where we're at?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's Shelly, take it.
SPEAKER_05It's not again a a heavy script, and a lot of it is just conversational because it is a found footage documentary. I mean, Mia had a monologue in the beginning about Alzheimer's, but I wouldn't say that like I enjoyed that. I uh really enjoyed the one. I'm calling them the two video guys.
SPEAKER_01Lewis and Gavin.
SPEAKER_05I know they have actual names, but Gavin had some great one liners. Yeah, he was good. Again, we're always like on like a B character as far as one liners go, but um he there's a whole scene where the neighbor Harris, which is a whole nother thing we haven't even unpacked. Um comes over and starts shooting up the house because he's upset because they're still videoing Deborah and and Gavin apparently has his mom's minivan. Yes. And he's like, he shot my mom's minivan. And so I enjoyed that. I I scrolled through the movie again last night really quick to see if anything like stood out and uh yeah that's all I really got.
SPEAKER_01Oh cool. Okay. Yeah that just that Gavin was fantastic Gavin was fantastic and just so you know I would have been on the Gavin train when he left. Yeah. It was pulling out of the station. I wanted to be like I'm coming Gavin. You just unlocked the back door and I'll close it. Is this back door unlocked? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Stop pulling it like stop pulling it. Let me unlock it.
SPEAKER_01But I I I was definitely uh I was Team Gavin. I loved Gavin. Matt, you got any favorite lines?
SPEAKER_00Yeah so I have uh the one scene where uh Gavin is putting his cross over the window underneath the window um his aunt's uh cross Aunt Bonnie Aunt Bonnie's cross yeah and Deborah all of a sudden appears right next to him she says in a deep possessed voice you're letting all the heat out just like shit that's such a mom thing to say too it's like she's still there a little bit but she's got a possession going on she's like you're letting all my heat out yeah even possessed she cares about the electric and then the other one I have was uh Louise said it several times about how many how many damn addicts do you have I love Louis yeah yeah yeah or like whenever whenever they sent him first he's like why me why why me that was such bullshit yeah it's not even his house and Sarah kept telling him to go first I was like poor Lewis just because he's got the camera with the uh was it Louis or Louise?
SPEAKER_01It's Lewis is it Louis okay yeah but but uh I think it was just because the camera had an actual flashlight light on it and everyone else is just like you need to go first poor guy but yeah he did he did make a couple comments about uh basements and basements and addicts like you said every time they're like you go first what you have the camera yes no so a couple little lines that I I guess sunk their teeth at me a little bit there was a documentary about D. Hardine when he initially attempted to do this moniken ritual and they were talking about uh you know how there were supposed to be five girls that he was going to sacrifice and he only got to four but part of that folklore and what it had to be was young girls who just started their period. So the way they uh so colorfully described it was bleeding flowers which sounds adorable and then it was followed up with a description of blood of their estrus which does not sound adorable and I would not eat if it was on the shelf at a pastry shop.
SPEAKER_05It's not adorable.
SPEAKER_01I can't speak I don't know but I can imagine it's not adorable. Oh jeez yes I've been all week I just I just thought I I thought those were fun little lines in there but also one of the parts where Deborah and Sarah were getting interviewed and she wasn't possessed she was just she was normal Deborah complaining to Sarah she was wearing like a green jacket or something she wanted her to take it off and she was talking to me and she's like you always look so beautiful shouldn't she take the jacket off and she eventually did and then without missing a beat Deborah was just like is that shirt your dad's just like such mom little lines at her like just like can't you put on a blouse she's like I don't own a blouse your dad's yeah and that was uh that was a fun little line so yeah like you said not a terrible lot going on as far as far as script but uh those are just a couple that uh I enjoyed I enjoyed a little bit yeah Gavin did have quite a bit of uh Gavin was great one-liners and stuff I wrote them down as guy with glasses another guy so another guy you don't like to follow the names do you I think our last one you're too you're like I don't know who's but the last one I understand girl who licks her lips last yeah girl that licks her lips that's good but we were what like we were saying we were watching it with uh with our family and friends and stuff and and uh my brother Dylan was watching it and I think he's in the camp of not learning anyone's fucking name yeah I'm not saying you shelly no I know I know I do write down the names but by the time I got down to their character names I was like I'm over typing this on my phone oh dude so it was guy well Dylan was like Harris's name he's like I think it's Chad or something he's like Chad what the hell's he doing like you don't follow names at all do you I was like dude it's Harris it's Harris but it's cool though like I get it like I w I end up watching these movies like double digit times just so I can get everything.
SPEAKER_05So their names are embedded in my brain but I I get it for your first time like yeah I can't tell you I'd be like that's Deborah girl with the hair guy with glasses yeah that sounds right up how I would break it down so you guys want to move along to enjoy enjoyable characters cool who wants to take it away Matt you want to add on to take away so yeah sure my my enjoyable characters are uh Deborah and Louise oh Lewis I'm sorry Lewis Deborah and Lewis I think it wouldn't be the first time we've mispronounced someone's name on this spot or even a word yes so that's me yes yeah but yeah I just I enjoyed Deborah I loved her character um I thought she what was the actresson yeah yeah I think she did a great job I think she's a great great actress yeah she did really good and look and uh Lewis I just I just enjoyed him because he was just kind of he was kind of there yeah and stuck and just like I guess I'm doing this um so those are my two enjoyable characters yeah awesome Shelly I wrote the two video guys so Lewis and I love it I love it um no I just thought they were great as I mean yeah they were B characters but like they really made some of the best scenes because like when she woke up and stripped naked and went up to the switchboard you know and then they cut to their room where they're sleeping I just think like they were kind of pivotal in a lot of the scares and had great one lines like even the beginning when she showed Gavin the his room and it was literally like a mattress on the floor and an air mattress and Gavin gets this like you know this is after he's being told to be like respectful and say you're pleased and thank you. She's a traditional woman you gotta like really be a proper woman yeah I'm not a proper woman that's why I didn't know what it's called you know Gavin gets in there but you can see it written all over his face he's like what the fuck yeah but then he still goes um Miss Miss Logan um thank you so much for the hospitality yeah and she's she's got a face like yeah fuck you too like it just it was a great rapport between Deborah and the video guys so like Gavin and Lewis yes I know their names good job I did this at like 10 30 last night we're all learning together Derek so enjoyable characters I had Harris are we gonna should we unpack this a little bit really quick? Yeah let's go because he's my I to segue he is my least favorite character. Oh cool so we can kind of okay unpack Harris a little bit yeah who the fuck is Harris Harris is a lifelong friend or is he Sarah's dad no he's not Sarah's dad no she says that just to get into the room but then they have a whole conversation and he calls her sweet pea and honey but but her dad's known her as a child but innocent and the in the family footage that they would cut to her dad passed away I forget from one when she was two yeah when she was little or was that just a lie I don't know I didn't feel any of that who videoed all that footage they had of Sarah and Deborah when they were little was it Harris it could have been Sarah's dad it was Lewis Lewis no but I loved Harris I thought he actually cared and there was a point where they're kind of like oh does Harris have something to do with this possession and what's going on he does though but he he's an accomplice but he's not the at least for my eyes.
SPEAKER_01Why would the neighbor care so much if this guy was gonna kill her if it wasn't his daughter he's a friend a friend not saying they didn't hook up maybe you know that's that's a possibility Deborah and Harris were definitely fucking I thought they were gonna hook up when he came to the hospital and I'm sure Deborah was like who's your daddy yeah oh boy and Sarah was like that's my daddy said they're definitely fucking Oh they're fucking oh they I had that thought I was like oh they definitely fucked so I hated Harris for all the reasons that we don't know who the fuck Harris is you liked Harris because I thought he was a good friend like a good story arc yeah I I thought throughout it he had Deborah's best interest in that the empathy he had for her was shown through and uh so I I I appreciated Harris but I loved that I love that you hated him he was a protector yeah so I I I get that I guess yeah let's protect the serpent possessed woman and he knows exactly what happened too he tried to kill her she told him she asked him to she did and he went to do it and he got I don't we don't have to do he got taken out by a TV. Yeah he did but then he was also pivotal in us finding out where DRD's head was and all that stuff at the end. Yeah but he was pivotal towards the end of the uh film. My second character not a ton of characters but second character Gavin he was just I think he was the only realistic one he he hightailed it out like a lot of us would Gavin Train I'm on it.
SPEAKER_05Gavin Train so who's up who was well I did my least favorite Derek what was your least favorite so least favorite Mia Okay.
SPEAKER_01I thought she was extremely condescending to the guys who she hired to work with her and she she treated them as servants and also there was uh there were two scenes where they showed her footage like the teleportation scene where Debra was in the kitchen and she ended up on the stuff I know what you're talking about yeah she was like oh there there's got to be a chair and I was like where the fuck do you see a chair in the shine? It's continuous. Yeah and also the the window scene which was actually a good jump scare for me where Gavin hung his ants across on the window and Debra said you're letting all the heat out she was like oh it's it's it's just a draft it's like you fucking ninkin poop what do you mean a draft a draft and lift the window you didn't know that that's nailed shut windows nailed shut draft so I I hated Mia and then uh Sarah I didn't like Sarah at all.
SPEAKER_05Yeah she was my we do have two but she was my second least favorite.
SPEAKER_01Yeah so I just thought as far as when we're we were dealing with the the Alzheimer's part of the film she just had like zero understanding yeah her like empathy and she was like no mom you've been to Germany and like the way that she was talking to her was so like like she didn't she are you fucking stupid mom she wasn't being yeah empathetic to us you'd like she wasn't being empathetic and was just like she's being a little rough yeah but then it's funny because then when she was possessed she had like all the care in the world.
SPEAKER_00Yeah like it was just funny how she she switched but I didn't I I was annoyed by that good my least favorite characters were Mia like you said I thought she was just kind of a dit like like I just like some of the things like you said with the window draft yeah the chair and then also how in one scene she's like losing her shit and then all of a sudden she's like totally like when they're crawling through she's like losing her shit and then she's like okay I'm okay. Oh yeah that was weird how she slipped like how do you like how do you go from from a hundred to like one yeah like what like what happened I think she was one of the worst actors in the movie too like you could tell she was very overacting sometimes right overacting that's it and then my other I have to say and it and it's because I think again shout out to Otis on uh Henry you know oh god I think I think Gavin right but I think I think Gavin's character I did I mean his his acting was good I hated Gavin.
SPEAKER_01Oh really I thought Gavin was a complete fucking asshole oh who the hell first of all he was surrounded by fucking idiots right but to to what you're saying about you know Mia treating her treating her uh guys like he treated her like like he fucking she hired him yeah this guy's talking like he's he's he the way that he reacts to her and talks to her I'm like this guy's a dick but she kicked it off in the beginning as soon as as soon as they got out of the van and she was talking to Sarah she's like just don't pay any mind to these guys just ignore them like they're not here and it was like alright cool that's nice well I think she kicked off the shittiness.
SPEAKER_00Well see I think that that's just that's that's the way like the documentary is supposed to be don't anybody would say that if you're if you're directing or if you're the interviewer you're gonna say just ignore them I don't think it was a dig necessarily on them as people I just think that she's like just ignore them pretend they're not here. Wasn't like they're not real don't you know she was just saying try to ignore them but Gavin I just thought he was an asshole through the whole thing. I just thought he was a complete dick. Again I thought I thought he was probably one of the most important characters throughout the thing just like I thought Otis I liked Otis because he was a creep and Henry yeah yeah and so so those are my two annoying characters. Yeah yeah guys let's move on favorite kill slash scare who wants to take it I'll start off Matt take it let's do it so my favorite kills slash scares are definitely the skin peeling to me that was like just the throat rip and yeah where she's just standing there and all of a sudden she turns around and she's ripping her throat out like that was yeah that was that was pretty good. And again we watched it we watched it with a group and and uh there were a lot of a lot of like ooze and yells and stuff so yeah um and then the skin where she starts itching it it was so funny we were watching it with our friend Jen she's sitting there and Deborah's itching her arm and Jen's like she's gotta stop itching her arm and then all of a sudden rip yeah oh shit it was hilarious.
SPEAKER_01So um and then I have one other but I don't want to I don't want to give that away I want to wait till I think I think we're all gonna enjoy yeah our favorite's gonna be the final yeah scare I don't know if you want to hold off on that. Yeah we will hold off until the final cut.
SPEAKER_00So that was my fun favorite one as well.
SPEAKER_05Shelley Yeah I I I enjoyed when she was creeping through the house if that was maybe one of the scarier essence like I said stress inducing um there was one good scene where they do like a pan through a room and then she like scatters across the screen she's like so I really enjoyed that and like with Gavin walking through the house he went into like the arts and craft room where we painted and there was um a bunch of objects covered with sheets and you're literally sitting there go something's in that sheet.
SPEAKER_01Yeah something is in that sheet uh there wasn't yeah spoiler but it's funny he's out at our party Jen was like she's like don't take it off don't don't take the tarp off that don't do it don't do it yeah but yeah that was a really cool scene with her with her paintings I like that and then yeah the final yeah the final so one of my favorite kills and slash scares uh and we'll get to the uh obviously the final scene but one of mine was also that scene where he walks into the room and the art's there he goes to the window and I think that's when Deborah pops it open in the window opens yeah so that that was the first jump scare my first time watching and it just like it hit me really hard and I was like wait what did she say and then when I re rewind it back and I was like oh that was a funny line but yeah that's that jump scare was was awesome to me because it got me it got me good.
SPEAKER_05Also just as a favorite kill as we've already kind of talked about she kind she gets starts getting snaky like when she kidnaps the kid the second time she goes to leave and they have footage like security footage of the security guard who is a useless security guard. I think they're all using they're all the whole hospital is used. It's a terrible hospital but he goes to stop her and he slowly ma'am walks up to her and she like spits venom into his face and that's when you're like so he she's a snake. Yes oh and I think that guy ends up dying from anaphylactic shock yeah because of the venom in her spit.
SPEAKER_00And that was one of the things too I was like oh she's spitting s she's spitting venom she's a snake I thought you were talking about where where Deborah is in the like at the door of the hospital with the kid.
SPEAKER_01Yeah but she doesn't spit she bites his neck oh yeah that was she spit one of the cops yeah yeah still all great the snakey that was cool though when because they're in the woods when the sc when the cop got spit yeah on and that was good because I think the security guard did die they said of anaphlexic because I think when she bit him she got the venom yeah I wanna want to give away the ending too much but yeah but I thought the cop the the one so the lady cop was down on the ground she was she had to have been bitten right no not the lady cop no I yeah the lady uh it was where there were three cops wasn't there one there was there was a guy in the hospital that she was a security guy and then there was the two cops the one that she spit in the face and it started and Lewis takes and then the girl and then the girl I thought there was a third cop that was that was Sheriff Tweed yeah she was she actually had a name but but right but there was only two cops right there was other cops there was two cops and then the security guard security guy yeah yeah but yeah after she bit the security guard I think she spit his skin or something out yeah I'm sorry Shelly I just I was trying to grasp yeah no the guy in the woods does get spit on right right yeah the sheriff makes it a little further yeah sure she does yeah she makes it into the mill yeah yeah and then when so we didn't see how she got killed we just saw that she was on the mill she was just on the ground and then there's a snake there. Yeah yeah there's a lot of snakes in this film it's a lot of snakes if you people don't like snakes you may want to skip a couple parts yeah next up final in this we just give the spoiler you know also spoiler alert anyone who doesn't want to know the ending go ahead and skip I don't know five minutes six minutes something like that we're gonna discuss it and then uh so we're gonna discuss the ending of the film and then we're gonna give her a rating as far as one stab, two stab three stab four stab or the ultimate five stab. So we find out that Deborah has somehow stolen Kara for the second time the young cancer patient from the hospital and has run off to the Monacan Mill where D Hardine's four previous victims were sacrificed. Sarah, Mia, Lewis and Sheriff Linda Tweed and one of her deputies leave and they find and confront Deborah in the woods short of her destination. Right before they're about to grab Kara from Deborah she all of a sudden spits venom snake lady and uh the deputy that gets hit goes down. Lewis stays with the deputy and Mia Sarah and Sheriff Tweed continue to follow Deborah. Once at the mill Sheriff Tweed goes it alone and of course ends up dead with snakes near her body. So Mia and Sarah continue deeper into the mines in the mill where they finally catch up to Deborah where she unhinged her jaw and is slowly devouring Kara like a snake. So cool that scene so unsettling it was terrifying.
SPEAKER_05Eating the kid like a snake trying to swallow her hole jaw so cool.
SPEAKER_01Exactly so Sarah grabs a gun and shoots towards Deb and spooks her enough to let Kara go and begs her mom to fight before she sedates her. They then take Dehardine's decapitated head and burn it in the mine breaking the curse. The film then cuts to news footage explaining that Deborah will not be held accountable for Sheriff Tweed's death because she is unfit to stand trial. We then are given a follow-up on young Kara, who's now cancer free and celebrating her birthday the following interview is conducted between news reporter John Stanton and Kara What are you looking forward to in your ripe old age?
SPEAKER_00I don't know you don't know well you better make a plan I have one you do what is it? It's a secret Oh well thanks for letting us come to your wonderful party honey You're welcome you're looking at the healthy and happy face of a remarkable ten year old girl it's an unbelievable story with such a happy ending.
SPEAKER_01And Kara stares into the camera with a mischievous and evil grin indicating she is now possessed. What and it goes on the terrible possession goes on.
SPEAKER_05And I'll tell you what I immediately did was Google is there a Deborah Logan part too which I wasn't the first to Google that and there's not it would have been great great twists.
SPEAKER_00Well it's 2014 and Caro is 10 years old so maybe she needs some she needs to get a little bit older yeah well now what is she in in high school you could do like that'd be a great she's in college right maybe in college I can't math that's not I'm not mathing right now 10 year old live on the podcast she's in her early 20s maybe yeah so she's in college that'd be pretty cool though in college yeah still yeah tripping out are you guys ready?
SPEAKER_01Yeah let's give her ratings let's do it cool Shelly take it I gave it a four woo four strong it's a strong four I thought it was good interesting enjoyable yes yeah solid four excellent match so I'm gonna I'm gonna say the same as Shelly I I gave it a four and and I'm you know as we start doing this I'm gonna realize that some of my some of my uh stabs are fucking garbage so so I'm sort of new to the game but yeah I'm starting to realize that I'm like okay maybe some of these scores need to be adjusted so yeah four I'm sticking with it so two fours all right so I thought the vibe of the film was awesome very creepy fantastic scares devouring cara was amazing the only thing that took me out of it was if she was possessed by D. Hardine or the snake you know monikin ritual. Right. Which the fact that she was turning into a snake lady didn't make any sense to me that D Hardine was the one that was possessing her and that's clearly what was possessing her. So with all that I gave it A three. You would.
SPEAKER_00I gave it a three because what did you give the stupid New York River?
SPEAKER_01I gave it a four. New York River gets a four from Derek. I I gave I gave it a three because I it didn't make any sense. I I feel like if they would have gone into the monik and snake ritual a little more, if we would have got more of that, maybe it would have connected the dots more for me, but it wasn't connected enough.
SPEAKER_05But then it would make the movie too chunky.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Too much information. Too much information?
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. That's fair. But for me.

SPEAKER_01It would have been it would have made more sense if she was possessed by a monican spirit.

SPEAKER_01He was a pediatrician. He fell short of being immortal. So there's no reason for him to have any kind of evil spirit entity.

SPEAKER_01No! It's a bit of the New York Ripper still in me. Such a strong four. So I gave it a three. Oh boy. So like I said, that final kill was it was probably the the best the best scene I've seen. So that's that's why it got a three.
SPEAKER_00That was that was definitely anytime. That was definitely my favorite, my favorite stare.
SPEAKER_05That scene was amazing. When it cut to her the if on the first watch, and you see that girl's like half of her body in the mouth. Oh my gosh, it was so good.
SPEAKER_01And Deborah's like, while she's while she's eating her, she just she has her eyes on Sarah just like as she's going down. It's like, oh boy.
SPEAKER_00I'll tell you the first the very first time I can't I I know I remember exactly the feeling that I had the first time I saw that was what the fuck?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It was just amazing I'm like, what? And I thought the special effects for that were just were just super awesome.

SPEAKER_05So she gave it four out of five. Uh Jamie F watched the movie and enjoyed it overall. Thought the plot was good, the session was pretty unique, lots of creepy little jump scares, enjoyed watching his wife cringe at the skin. That she did. He thought it had more authentic authenticity because of the documentary, and then he did not like the the writing, he didn't like the lights in the hospital, oh the the lack thereof. And um slightly annoying that the writer director didn't have more respect for its audience and went to the dark room to try to make it scarier, so it was cliche to uh Jamie. Still it was entertained even if it was mocking. So his favorite line was the dude who was like another addict. Oh he gave it three out of five.

SPEAKER_05Dumbest part was the no lights in the hospital. Uh, he thought the mother Deborah uh was the best actor and that Mia was the worst, so pretty much on par. Yeah. And he thought when the mother was eating the kid was stupid.

SPEAKER_05He said it was dumb when the mother was eating the kid. And he said, keep it as a demonic possession movie. Even keep it at that. He's like, don't turn the person into a snake, just keep them possessed.

SPEAKER_05And then lastly, we got Sherry F. She watched it and seriously enjoyed it. Can't believe she hadn't seen it before. Uh she likes how it started out like a creepy medical type doc and took a total left turn. The night scenes were they were searching the house, had her cringing for the jump scares.
