SPEAKER_01Um, but that's perfect. But let's let's start this off how we typically start them off, which is did anything scary happen to anyone, or did you guys watch anything scary?
SPEAKER_00Something scary happened to everyone.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Daylight savings time. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_03The day of recording. Yeah. So I'm drinking coffee. Yeah, cheers. It's it's time. Yes, cheers. It's time for bed for me.
SPEAKER_01It's bedtime, yeah. I am 70. It is uh 6.15, so it's bedtime. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Uh I I watched a couple films. Uh I got COVID last week, like a chance. Oh, yeah. Both of you.
SPEAKER_00Well, Matt was sick Kevin in the Woods week.
SPEAKER_03Yes, you were sick in the woods week. I was I didn't have COVID. No. Yes.
SPEAKER_00You were sick. Yes. And you watched a bunch of horror movies. Oh no. Oh, that's right.
SPEAKER_03I have not stopped watching horror movies. I couldn't tell you. I have I have watched so many horror movies since we've last met. Just tons. Oh, great. Just research. Oh just for fun. Yeah, good. Yeah. So you get so go ahead. What were you saying?
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, I watched so a friend of ours gave me their password to HBO Max, and I just went crazy on HBO Max because they had Barbarian, which I watched was which was awesome. Um I watched Um The Witch, which is from 2015, but I love that. And then so those were two films I loved, and are you know, if you haven't watched them yet, please find a way to watch them. They're they're worth it. Even if you got to rent them somewhere, totally worth it, worth it. Great films. Yeah. I I was watching a bunch of good movies, and I was like, alright, I need to like I need to find something that's uh on the edges of like possibly good or bad. Okay. So Glenn Danzig did Ferotic. Yeah, yeah. So I've heard terrible things about it, and I was like, well, let's check it out. Like Misfit's rule. Right. So I I checked it out and it was the absolute dumpster fire.
SPEAKER_03So so this it lived up to its standards.
SPEAKER_01So in On Shudder, it was like, you know, cult classic, you know, on the verge of cult classic from Glenn Danzig, all this stuff, and I was like, alright, cool, let's check it out. And it was just terrible. I it's like an anthology style film, so there's three different stories going on in it. It somehow gets worse.
SPEAKER_03Each one gets worse. Shame on me for not writing some of them down, but I I just watched a shit ton of movies. I watched this one really dumb about these these rock and roll guys that turned into zombies, and it was just terrible. It was a 60s, 70s movie. It was probably a 70s movie, but yeah, so many.
SPEAKER_01I did watch a movie called uh Trick or Treat, and there's tons of movies called that, but but it had it was like a demon rock star guy that came back through Possessed Record. That's a cool one. That's actually free on YouTube if you look it up. Okay. But uh yeah, that was that was it. Nothing besides getting COVID, but COVID really wasn't scary, it just made me sleepy and achy.
SPEAKER_03I did I did start uh, you know, Shelly, that uh on Shudder, that that one that has like they talk about like the scariest moments in movies and stuff, horror movies.
SPEAKER_00101 most scary well it's horror scenes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, right, right.
SPEAKER_00I had to readjust my thinking when I'm watching it because some of their choices I was like, Yeah really? Yeah, but um it's scenes specifically. I finished it. Oh, good. Um, I was talking to Derek a little bit about the top ten the other day, and you know, it has we've talked about Sinister and the Lawnmower scene that's in the top ten. I won't spoil number one, but you know, it was interesting to me. I mean, I think but everybody defines scary differently. For me, it's like the jump scares.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But um, you know, they I I think they all had different perspectives of what the the scariest scenes were. It was it was an interesting watch. I would I would stick all the way through it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's uh I've watched a lot on Shudder. Yeah. Shudder's Shudder's great. We love Shudder.
SPEAKER_01You guys ready to get in?
SPEAKER_03Well, go ahead. Real quick, I don't know if if we want to keep this in or not, but Shelly's dad had an awesome retirement party. Oh, yeah, that's that was a lot of fun. We went over to his his favorite place in uh Dunedin, uh Hanu.
SPEAKER_00The Anu, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Had a great uh great guy playing music behind us and everything. Uh the appetizer appetizers and hors d'herbs, am I saying that right? Yeah, we're delicious. Very fancy. Yeah, with your treatment. We're delicious and stuff. So I mean, I had a great time. We both we uh we thank you very much for inviting us and and having us come back. Thank you, Shelly. Yeah, thanks to Steve for retiring. We're a parent. We're all families awesome. Yeah. So we don't even need to go there. I mean, everybody there is awesome. Family of sweeties. Ma pa and sis. Yeah, all awesome.
SPEAKER_00We've been planning that for a few months. Yeah, that's kind of it was scary too because it was a surprise. There you go. And you know, I slipped a couple times. People will have been slipping, and maybe in his older age, he just forgot anything that might have crossed his mind. So when he uh got an invite, uh, you know, Derek and his wife actually helped and text my mom to come up with a story and the old bait and switch. He showed up and he saw one person who is sometimes there. Uh and you know, he didn't think anything of it. He's like, Oh, what a coincidence that person's here today. Yeah, and then looked around and realized, oh, I know all the people that are here today. All of these people, yeah. So it was a great surprise. We made him cry, we did it. Yeah, that was it was great.
SPEAKER_01He was, you know, when he walked in, you could totally see it on his face. He was like, you know, you can't sell that unless you're you know Jennifer Lawrence. Yeah, and love it. We're not gonna sell it that way. So yeah, that was great. Tons of fun. You guys ready? Very cool. Let's do it. Let's talk about the city of the dead. So, guys, first off, dig up the bones. And this match just introduces the movie. So please, Matt, take it away. All right.
SPEAKER_03So the City of the Dead is a uh 1960s horror mystery thriller. I'll accept it. Yeah, the runtime was an hour and 16 minutes. Rotten Tomato gives it 71%. The initial release date was September 12th, 1961. Director is John Lilli Lilliwin. Am I saying that wrong? Whatever. John Lilowin. Well, that's his middle, I think. Whatever. I don't know why I put that in there. But John Lilliwin Moxie. It's uh starring uh the uh famous Christopher Lee as Alan Driscoll, Patricia Jessel as Elizabeth Selwyn. Selwyn. Selwyn, yeah, Elizabeth Selwyn, Tom Naylor as Bill Maitland, Vanita Stevenson as Nan Barlow, and many, many other. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Uh no sequel. I couldn't find any sequel. The music was by Douglas Gamely and Ken Jones, distributed by British Lion. Production company was Volcom. Uh box office gross. It didn't give me a box office gross. I did read a little bit about it, didn't make a lot of money.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think I I was reading a little bit, I think from what they said, it was a it was a disappointment at the box office.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So anybody into currency can figure it out. 45,000 pounds, whatever the hell that means. Convert it now. Convert it. So it gross, I couldn't find, like I said. Um so alright, so I'll get into the movie. Um in the opening scene of the movie, it takes place at a the burning of a witch in the town of Whitewood, Massachusetts. The whole scene is a story being told by a college professor played by Christopher Lee that has taken place a hundred years ago. Nan Barlow, a young student, seems to be much more interested in her professor's story than her fellow classmates are. Nan stays behind after class to continue to talk to her professor about witchcraft. She decides to go to Whitewood in order to do some more research on the witches that supposedly live there. Her boyfriend and brother are none too happy about it. But she ventures off anyways. Before Nan arrives in the town, things seem to be a little witchy than she expected. And so the story goes.
SPEAKER_01I don't know why your last lines always make me giggle. Because they're stupid. Yeah, exactly. That's why.
SPEAKER_03And I'm a dumb, dumb, so you're my brother, you're supportive, I get it.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so when we initially pulled it, how did you guys have any kind of feelings about it? I know you were you weren't here, Matt. So how do you think that's it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, first of all, real quick, I just want to throw a shout out to John. Thank you so much for filling in for me. I mean, the guy did phenomenal. Yeah, John didn't. That's great. He did phenomenal. Just like just like our past guest and everything, John was stepped it up too. I mean, great. Thank you so much, John. Um, initial older movie. I get excited about the older movies. I don't know what it is, but I really do. I get excited. You know, the mummy, we had um, what was the other one?
SPEAKER_01Some of the we had the mummy, and then there was as far as like black and white, the mummy, and this is the only other one that was playing. Was it really okay?
SPEAKER_03Well, then maybe I'm just excited. But anyways, that was my initial reaction. So great. What about you, Shelley?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I had never seen it. Um, I of course know who Christopher Lee is. Um, but uh after watching the trailer, I was excited. It looked like a decent just horror banger, I I guess. Um so yeah, I had no reservations, I was ready to dive right in.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, me too. I'm always, you know, I'm a sucker for the black and white, so like Matt said, I love that that uh old school look. But uh and it had Christopher Lee in it. I was excited to see him, and uh yeah, I was I was excited to tear into this film. So let's get into it, guys. Let's do it. Next up, Feasting Fiends. And this we discuss the topics of overall pros, cons of the movie, favorite lines, most enjoyable and most annoying characters, and then we finish it off with our favorite kills slash scares. So, pros. Matt, what do you got?
SPEAKER_03Alright, so my pros, great storyline. Again, just like the mummy, um, I really enjoyed how they just kind of set you set it up. They there's a backstory to it, you know where where all the shit's coming from. Yeah. So I really enjoyed um the great detail uh that they put into it and you know how things came to be. So that was that was my pro. Nice. Yeah. What about you, Shelly?
SPEAKER_00Uh, yeah, same as Matt. I put that it was a great witch story overall. I also really love the black and white aspect of it. Uh, it looked great. Um, I know they reformatted it into like 3K or something like that. It's an old formatting that they did still.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_00But it was crisp and um it wasn't hard to see anything. It was really, really well done as far as how they reformatted it. Um, and I just think for its time, it was really good overall as far as just every aspect music, cinematography. Um, they didn't waste our time. Some of the movies we've watched, I'm like, what Itchy was felt like it was three hours long.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Right, exactly.
SPEAKER_01You slept during that madness.
SPEAKER_03No, I just uh I mean I did.
SPEAKER_00That's true, you did. That's right.
SPEAKER_03No, you're right, I did too. It took me like it took me like three days to watch the damn thing or something. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Bits and pieces, bits and pieces.
SPEAKER_00Right. So this does what it needs to do in the time that is just enough to keep your interest. Yeah, they don't waste too much time on anything, so um, that was my last pro.
SPEAKER_01I love it. I think we all love the storyline. I I love the part where so Nan is set up as like we I think not, you know, there wasn't final girls at that time, but I thought she was gonna be the one to carry us through. And much like in Psycho, where you're following this lady, and then halfway through, she's like, Oh, she gets killed. You're like, Oh shit, and the whole thing gets flipped on its head, yeah, and then there's a whole nother, you know, second part of the film. So I love that. And then I also loved the set design. So a city of Whitewood is set in in a sound stage, and the production on the buildings was fantastic. Uh, I love the fog, it just gave it's such a vibe to to it visually. And they were they were fucking slamming us over the head with it. A little excessive on the I know, but I loved it. I loved every single part of it. So I really love that. And uh, yeah, those those were my pros. Nice. All right, guys, let's go to cons. Matt.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so I I honestly I I literally probably took about 15 minutes or so today just really trying to figure out what were my cons of this movie, and I could not come up with anything. The only thing I the only thing that I came up with that I could think about were just the creepy town people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I I mean I thought maybe I wanted a little bit more of them and maybe a little bit more of of their story, maybe know more some of something that I don't know, but yeah, I had a hell of a time trying to come up with a con because I just really enjoyed the movie. Oh, great.
SPEAKER_00I don't know if this is the right time to say this, but Matt, you've come so far. But what why I'm saying that is um, you know, in the beginning it seemed like you would give your pros and cons. You're like, I don't know what I watched. It seemed to be completely different. Yeah. But on our last episode, me and you synced up almost perfectly on Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you did, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And we're about to sync up again on the cons here. I said the lack of growing up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_00You're growing up. The lack of the backstory of the town people would be the only thing I would want, maybe a little bit more. They were integral parts of the story. Yeah. You know, they added that creepiness that we need needed to make Nan feel like she was not okay. But like, who are they? Like we know they're part of the coven, but like how did they get there? Like, are they part of the curse of the town? I guess that's what I wanted a little bit more of. Some of the acting was a little fake, especially in the fight scenes. Oh, yeah. If I had to give another like critique on it, you know, they would like swing and then they would a second later they'd be like, Oh, yeah, I fell over.
SPEAKER_01And they were like four feet apart. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And then there was a little bit of nonsensical banner, like the whole boyfriend storyline, I think.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, we could have done without it. I think there was a different approach I could. I don't want to say anything about the ending, but it almost could have just been the brother.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. The whole time. You didn't mean to throw in the boyfriend. Well, originally the script.
SPEAKER_01Because originally, and it's it's in my interesting facts, but originally the script was for a TV show. Right. And then it was. And then they added more to it, and I think it was the writer who added in the love story with the boyfriend. But yeah, I I agree. I mean, even to the point like it was unnecessary. Go ahead.
SPEAKER_00They didn't even seem like they were that much in love. Like they th they looked like they were newly dating. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then she takes a picture of him on this trip and puts it under her pillow. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Then there was three places. Then there was even comments like the uh the brother said to the cousin, like, oh, maybe she found somebody to hook up with or something. I was like, wait, she has a boyfriend. Like, what are we? Yeah. But so you got me thinking though, too. I'm sorry, Derek. I know it's your turn, but the only other thing that I that I thought of too is that they were very excessive on explaining that uh the brother science guys. Like, yeah, it's if I can't, if it's not tangible, I can't then it's not real. You know, he's like, all right, I got it. And we I got it. But anyways, that was that was it.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Derek.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Derek, kiddos now.
SPEAKER_01The only thing that like I agree with that, like actually, one of my characters, the reason, you know, I'll get into it, but the reason I had an issue with one of the characters is I wanted more. Like it was an interesting setup for a character, but they didn't give me anything. But as far as cons go, the only thing I really had an issue with was I felt that Christopher Lee was underutilized. I felt like Alan Driscoll was a great character, and we should he should have been, he was like almost like a background to the coven. He should have been a bigger part of it. I would have liked to see him more because every scene he was in was dynamite, and uh, I just I would have liked to see more of him.
SPEAKER_00Jethro was in it more than him. Yeah. He was even in the throwback.
SPEAKER_01And he had a great voice, by the way. I shouldn't have been.
SPEAKER_00No, wait, maybe it wasn't Jethro in the throwback. Was it Christopher Lee in the book?
SPEAKER_01No, it was Jethro. It was Jethro, okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He had a great voice. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh, he was great.
SPEAKER_01When they're making like during that beginning scene when him and Elizabeth were making the pack with the devil, like his voice was just like it was it was so deep and brooding, but it oh, I loved it.
SPEAKER_03I loved his voice. Uh Valentine Dale. Yeah. Dale. Is he is he a well-known? I feel like he is, no?
SPEAKER_00I've not heard of it.
SPEAKER_03So I was watching after I watched that, it kicked me right into Witchcraft, an old 1960s movie, and I think he's in that. I think I could be wrong. Because it's another, because this was a British movie set in America. Yes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So the only actor or actor actress that was uh actually American was Nan. Everyone else was English. But yeah. So that that takes care of our cons. Guys, let's go to favorite lines. Matt, you got you got a favorite line you want to tell me about? Yeah. Sure do, buddy. You got some info?
SPEAKER_03Information. Um, so yeah, so my my favorite line was uh Professor Alan Discoll. Driscoll. Driscoll. I knew I said it wrong once I said it. He's uh when they come out of that scene where the uh witch is being burned, you know, and him explaining to the students about this uh witchcraft, he goes, Burn witch, burn witch, burn, burn, burn. And then Bill Maitland, the boyfriend, says, Dig that crazy beat.
SPEAKER_01I just thought that was kind of funny, but I I had the same line. So really yeah, I thought it was funny because it was so, you know, it was such a you know indicative of the times, like 1960s. Yeah, dig that crazy beat. Where he's like poking fun at him like he's a beat nick or something. And I hate I hated Bill, but I was like, that that was a smart ass little funny line. Yeah. So I get you. I see I see where you're coming from. That was it. What about you, Shelly? What do you got?
SPEAKER_00Um, I had the exchange between um Dick Barlow, who's Nan's brother, and Professor Driscoll, Christopher Lee, where Barlow says, Any good encyclopedia will give you all the nonsense you want to know about witchcraft. Driscoll goes on to say, which witchcraft is not nonsense, Barlow. They have some banter. Barlow goes on to say, Well, I don't believe that somebody in Chicago can die of a heart attack because some woman in New Orleans sticks a pen in a wax doll. Where then Driscoll says, Maybe you don't, but practitioners or voodoo claim otherwise.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I thought that was great. Jump an acknowledgement. And I also think like it's it makes you start thinking. I think around that point I was like, there's something up with him.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, a little too involved. There's something up with Driscoll. Yeah, a little a little too involved in witchcraft. Yes, right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But that's that's great. Yeah, that's that's uh that's something I didn't even think about, but yeah, that was pretty apparent in that moment for sure.
SPEAKER_00And just to circle back around, the Valentine, the actor, he was in some great movies in the 60s. Oh, okay, please. Okay, cool. Including a movie that is potentially on my list for next year, for next season, um, The Haunting, the original 1960.
SPEAKER_03Oh The Haunting. So, did you I wonder if was he in the witchcraft the witchcraft, the 1960? Can you look that up real quick? I'm just curious. Yeah. Because I swear it was him. He was just a little bit heavier set. Like it might be a later movie, but but that's an older that's an older movie too, and it's about witchcraft, and it's and it's pretty cool. I started watching it. It's good.
SPEAKER_01I loved his character, like he was the guy in the fog, like when people are trying to get to Whitewood.
SPEAKER_03Well, Shelly's looking that up. Let's let's get into enjoyable characters, right?
SPEAKER_01Okay, cool, great. Matthew, sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_03That was my guy, Jethro. I actually I wrote down Jethro. I'm I'm with you. He was creepy, you know. Um, in the beginning, too. He's like, you know, they ask him, Do you have anything to do with her? And he's like, No. But then, like him just Lucifer, you know, he goes off on his tangent in his voice, and then he's the drifter that everybody picks up and then vanishes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So he was not in that movie.
SPEAKER_03He was not. Okay, all right. My bad. My bad. Yeah, no. You look like him then.
SPEAKER_00They all look the same. Derek, who was your favorite character in the movie?
SPEAKER_01I really enjoyed Elizabeth Selwyn slash Miss New uh Newless. You know, she was playing the lady who ran the inn, but I just thought, you know, she was the evil leader of the witches, and she sold and made the, you know, made that part really believable. And then I just love how when she was the owner, you know, when she was playing in Miss Newless character, she was just like pulling the strings to like set up Nan to be in this, like, you know, ultimately to fall in this trap of for her demise. Yeah. But it was just like subtle little things, and she was just like blowing off, like she was worried about the trapdoor in a room. She's like, Oh, it's nothing, it's been concreted. And she's just I enjoyed her character. I I love that a lot. Yeah, she she did a great job for sure. And then I did have a second shout out to the fog, because the fog was definitely a fucking character in this film, and I loved it. So that was it. Shelly, what do you got?
SPEAKER_00Um, I'm gonna go probably where nobody would have maybe thought, but I'm gonna give it to Lottie. I did like Lottie. I did like her, yes, Main, yeah, who had not a single line, but she was kind of building this hero arc. Yes. She was gonna save these girls who we thought might be our final girl. But then Elizabeth Sullivan, new is sorry. Yeah. Uh Patricia Jessel's character. She and Jethro ended.
SPEAKER_01Snuffed her out. And um I was heartbroken. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. When you see her kind of just all like eh.
SPEAKER_01I know.
SPEAKER_00It was it was disappointing. But man, you were really rooting for Lottie to like pull it out. And I had to give her credit because for not speaking a single line, very similar to our art the clown.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She had great facial expressions, an urgency, a scaredness. You know, she she played it really well. So I wanted to give her some recognition.
SPEAKER_03I'm not doing that because I I actually had Lottie. I was I was gonna put down Lottie, but I'm like, I really like Jethro though, too. So then I just I it was like a flip of a coin. But yeah, I loved Lottie. She was it's America. You can have more than one. No, but to your exactly your point. I mean, she she sold it. I mean, she sold there was evil going on. I mean, she she did great.
SPEAKER_01I I really enjoyed her. All right, let's go on into most annoying characters. Matt, go ahead. Well, uh, it's the boyfriend.
SPEAKER_03I just I just thought there wasn't Maitlin Bill William. He didn't really do anything for me. It was just another person there. Yeah, we always try to look at that at the movie. Like, who could when we when we pick an annoying characters, yeah, who could we have not done with? So, and I think that he was one. Yeah. Like I said, I think the brother could have ran the whole show there.
SPEAKER_01So And like, so this I'm not gonna get into too much because it is like part of a spoiler, but I did not like how his character ended up. And I'll and I'll talk and we can talk about it at the end, but I didn't like how his character ended up. But uh I'll jump next. I was actually my most annoying character was Jethro. Oh, really? Because in that beginning scene when she Elizabeth was like, you know, Jethro will will speak on my behalf, and he was just like silent. And then as soon as she went to the to the to the stake to be burned, then he's starting to make a pact with the devil, and I was like, Where the hell were you fucking like two minutes ago? You delete it. He doesn't want to give it away. Yeah, but I was just like, where the fuck were you two minutes ago? I was like, and now you're making a pact with the devil. That's that's like far worse than not eternally. Well, eternally is gonna be very hoping. Well, that's yeah, who knows? Eternally, eternity, eternally. Eternity. Yeah, eternally. Words in the hard are we gonna words are super duper hard. Spelling. But then so to your point as far as like uh enjoyable characters, I was annoyed that we didn't get any kind of extra meat with Lottie. I loved her character, I wanted more of her, and I wanted to know what her relationship was with Selwyn. Why didn't she speak and why was she immune? That would have been I wanted to be. That would have been a great uh But she was she was great con. Yeah, I had to look it up. What is wrong with us today?
SPEAKER_00What's that word? What is that? Yes, what's that one?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, con that would have been a great con. This is our 20th episode, and we we're all needing like, wait, where are we next? What is wrong with us? Specifically you and I. Yeah. But uh yeah, I just I would have uh I would have loved more for Lottie because she was so great and she was, you know, she did start this uh road down being a hero. But yeah, so that was it.
SPEAKER_00Mine are now granted, I'm gonna preface this with I don't think we had the origin of a final girl till like the 70s, and this is from the 60s, yeah, if I'm correct.

SPEAKER_00I wanted Nan and Patricia to be some kind of hero. Yeah, some kind of final girl. We lost Nan. Now here's Patricia's chance, and they they're building it that she could do this, but then like they just become helpless. So I hated both of them. I wanted them to fight. Yeah, I maybe wanted Nan to like listen to the guy.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you wanted uh Patricia and Elizabeth to fight.
SPEAKER_00I wanted well, I wanted her to do something, the characters to have not just be like, huh.
SPEAKER_01Just be yeah, because she she's but but it was strange though because screaming down in the basement.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, so I I won't give it too much away, but I did enjoy Bill's kill. Uh, even though I think Derek has a problem with it. However, yeah, there was foreshadowing to it. And I don't know, did you catch on to the foreshadowing?

SPEAKER_00Derek, I'm pointing at Derek. Did you catch on to the foreshadowing?
SPEAKER_03I don't know if I did.
SPEAKER_00Well, in the very first scene, before Nan goes to talk to Professor Driscoll. Oh, maybe you didn't catch on to the foreshadowing that I saw. Maybe I didn't.

SPEAKER_00Bill is talking to Nan and takes a pencil down her back.
SPEAKER_01Oh, did I see that? No. Yes. Yeah, he did.
SPEAKER_00And just think about how Bill dies.
SPEAKER_01Mmm. Oh.
SPEAKER_00Oh.
SPEAKER_01I still hate him.
SPEAKER_00I still don't like him. No, but I just really liked the aspect of like you got that little bit of foreshadowing. I noticed him do that pencil to the back, and I kind of even through my first watch, said, note it.
SPEAKER_01It was very weird and awkward. Why did he do that to begin with? If you put like to rubber back or whatever, but the fact that it was like the pencil.
SPEAKER_00Was it foreshadowing for not Nan's death? Yeah being stabbed?
SPEAKER_01It could be.
SPEAKER_00Was it foreshadowing for his death? Who knows? But I thought that was a cool little bit of foreshadowing, and I did like how he went out. So that's my favorite kill. What about you, Matt?
SPEAKER_03Well, I uh as much as I didn't want it to want it to happen, it happened was Lottie. I said Lottie. Oh yeah. And then just the just the part, not necessarily getting choked out, but when um Jethro and his big old hands. Yeah. When uh oh my gosh, the brother goes down.
SPEAKER_01Oh, the brother uh Richard.
SPEAKER_03Richard Barlow goes down in the basement or cellar or whatever the hell you want to call it. Yeah, and she pops, she pops there just like petrified or whatever. Yeah, like a wall. Rigamort is set in or something. Like a spider threw down. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So that was mine. I gotcha.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So my favorite kill was pretty much the same as Shelly. Like the final scene, I just thought there was tons of action going on. I know the mummy was 1930s, and so this is quite a while after that, but like that was the thing for me that was missing in the mummy, was like an action. The end was just phenomenal. So that's my favorite kill slash scare. And next we move on into Final Cut. And that's I reveal the ending of the film, and then we discuss and give our ratings of one to five stabs. One stab, atrocious, no redeeming value, waste of time. Two stabs, bad, forgettable, poorly done. Three stabs, mixed feelings, mediocre, okay. Four stabs, good, interesting, enjoyable, and then five stabs, masterpiece, excellent, perfect. You want to give him a warning.

SPEAKER_01Yep. There you go. Yeah. Someone went to college. Yeah. College. What's that? Alright, I'm going to start reading. After learning of Nan's disappearance, Richard and Bill set out for Whitewood separately. Bill ends up having a much more difficult time and through the fog sees an image of Elizabeth Selwyn burning at the stake in Rex's car. When Richard reaches Whitewood, he checks into the Raven's Inn and introduces himself to Miss Newless as Nan's brother and that he'd like to stay in her room. Later he ventures out into the creepy town of Whitewood and finds Patricia before visiting her grandfather, Reverend Russell, who reveals that the town is under the control of Selwyn's coven. Back at the inn, Lottie is attempting to leave a note informing Richard about the witches, but before she can finish, Elizabeth and Jethro intervene and kill her. Soon after, when Richard returns to his room, it is revealed that Patricia has been marked as the next sacrifice by her finding a bird with an arrow through it in her house and a spring of wood by nailed to the front door. She attempts to flee with the Reverend, but the car has been immobilized. Richard, still back at the inn, receives a distressed phone call from Patricia just as she is being kidnapped. Richard runs to her house just in time to find the Reverend Russell dying, and with his last breath explains to Richard that the shadow of the cross is what is required to defeat the witches. Richard runs into a battered Bill upon leaving the house just as he sees the Coven marching into the tomb, but he is too late to stop them. Leaving Bill resting in a car, Richard returns to the inn and finds the same floor passage that Nan found before she died and investigates it, finding Patricia tied up and ready to be sacrificed. Professor Triscoll reveals himself to Richard as a Coven member, so Richard attempts to shoot him, but it's in vain, so he throws the gun at him instead, and that does the trick. Richard grabs Patricia and escapes out to the graveyard, only to be cornered and overpowered by the Coven with their uncut fingernails. A severely injured Bill stumbles into the graveyard like a zombie at the last minute and succeeds in extracting a large wooden cross from the ground after getting a huge dagger hail married into his back by Elizabeth Selwyn. Bill uses the last of his strength to burn the coven members alive under the cross's shadow. Selwyn escapes during the chaos, but Richard and Patricia find her a charred corpse in a hotel which was built on the same site as her original burning. I think someone just fell down out there. And that's the end of the City of the Dead.

SPEAKER_01Can you believe it? So yeah, I to get back to Maitlin for s for a character who was just like backdrop and he was just nothing to the story. For him to have such a major role to be the one to hold up this cross and burn all these witches, I was like, I did want, I did not want him as our hero. So I was I was let down by that. I'm with you there. So how did how would you guys feel about the ending? Other than that, I loved the action. I love the the witches being set on fire. That was awesome. Yeah. I thought the dagger throw to Bill's back was super cool. I know it was like a reverse shot, but uh I loved all that. So other than that, the ending was amazing. I loved it. But I just I wish I wish it wasn't Bill. Go away, Bill.
SPEAKER_03I liked the whole movie. I thought the whole thing was good. Uh yeah, the witches burning and stuff to the shadow of the cross was was awesome.
