Welcome to Little Bracket of Horrors. The pod that puts the fight in fright!
Here it is...the moment we've all been waiting for...the Little Bracket of Horrors Deathmatch! This was a frightful fight and we had some real killer films this year but just like the Highlander, there could only be one.
Join the LBOH crew as we took a bloody trip down memory lane, discussed all twenty of the films we watched this season, and ultimately decided on a champion of the Little Bracket of Horrors Deathmatch 2022!
And we finally made it. Yes, we have. Welcome back, everyone. I'm Derek.
SPEAKER_06I'm Shelly.
SPEAKER_05I'm Matt. And we are Little Bracket of Horrors. And today is a very special episode. We are crossing the finish line. We are getting into our deathmatch bracket. Welcome. Welcome. Welcome.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we're here.
SPEAKER_01I am excited. You're welcome. I am excited. You're welcome.
SPEAKER_06But I'm not gonna lie, I just glanced at my bracket and I made some choices that I may be changing on the fly. Okay. I'm just warning you right now. I'm just warning you right now.
SPEAKER_05So that leads me into my question. We pulled for the bracket last episode. When you guys were going through and choosing which movies won each battle, did you guys have any kind of like process you did, or was it just like a simple like which one do you like better? Like, explain it to me. Matt, did you have any special process?
SPEAKER_01No. Nothing about me is special. You're a special guy. Well, maybe that's why my process is very easy. No, it's definitely like what movie did I like better out of the two. I mean, so I mean, going through this list, and you know, I've seen more horror movies than I've seen in the last forty some years. So I mean, it sort of begs some of the questions of whether some of these movies are horror movies. So um, but that being said, they're in the bracket, they're considered a horror movie, so I I judged them on on uh which one I like better. Yeah. So yeah, that was my that was my process. Like it.
SPEAKER_05What about you, Shelly?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, I looked at overall pros, cons, what movie I enjoyed more as I watched it. And I mean, it sometimes didn't take a lot for me to be like, that's the clear winner, and other times I had to really weigh out my pros and cons. I won't say that like my original opinion changed very much towards the end of the season. I was fairly solid. Yeah. I know Matt is a new horror movie watcher as in depth as you've ever gotten. Yeah, your opinion have may have changed from when we started to now, from what you know now.
SPEAKER_01Yes, absolutely.
SPEAKER_06But I I'm pretty rock solid in my opinions. But I was just looking at my bracket, like I said, and I don't know why I let one movie get as far as it did. So we'll see what happens. That's awesome.
SPEAKER_01Switcheroo.
SPEAKER_05So for me, I just I looked between the two movies, I wanted to see which one had a better story, which one's writing was better, which one's concept was more intriguing. And then from there, after that, I would be like, which one was more scary? And then if it was a one-one, then I made it simple and just like which one would I rather watch? So for me, that was my criteria for which one would win. So which one would I rather watch was like the tiebreaker.
SPEAKER_06Nice. Yeah, we did have a um one bracket turned in from one of our fans. So we may show or share their thoughts as we go through it. I think um uh Jeremy W might have made a comment which we thought was the winner, but I did you get Lisa Rs? I did not know.
SPEAKER_05Okay, she she showed me hers, and I just remember her final, so we can discuss what her final was too. So we'll we'll share that at the end if that's cool.
SPEAKER_06We're definitely gonna get your you know, you guys, the fans, involved and as much as we can. Yeah, so it's gonna be interesting. It's gonna be interesting.
SPEAKER_01Let the battles begin.
SPEAKER_05That's right. So let's I figured uh real quick before we jump into the battles, let's just go over the seating form real quick. So so this is starting on the left hand side. Obviously, the top spot is number one. We work our way down to 10 at the bottom, then we jump to the right hand side, we're at 11, and we'd go down to 20. So in our first spot was Friday the 13th, which had a bye, and the second spot was the mummy versus the third spot, which is terrifier, and then we go down to number four spot, which is the taking of Deborah Logan versus the visitor at the number five spot. Then at the number six spot, we have the demented, but before that we have Phantasm and Ichi the Killer battling it out at seven and eight spot, and then after that, on a on the left hand side of the bracket, at the number nine and ten spot, we have mother versus the city of the dead.
SPEAKER_06I will say the left hand side was easier than the right hand side.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely. Yeah, 100%. Definitely.
SPEAKER_06There was some tough matchups on the left hand side, but comparatively right. Oh man, there were so many hard decisions on the right hand side.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, a lot of decisions on the right hand side right off the bat, too. Oh yeah. It was tough.
SPEAKER_06It was quick.
SPEAKER_05So on the right hand side, we had at number 11 high tension. But before that, we had ginger snaps versus the New York Ripper at 12 and 13. Below that we have Henry versus Sinister at 14 and 15 spot. Below that we have the thing at the 16th spot, but before that battle, it was the Cabin in the Woods versus Mandy at 7 and 18. And then the bottom of the right hand side, we had Thirst in the Innkeepers at 19 and 20. So there was our bracket we pulled last week. And now we get to battle it out. What we're gonna do is like we did with the feasting fiend throughout the season, where we each got a chance to bring up our points and then go around the table and we'll see who wins. Majority rules. So we got three people here, so let's make some decisions.
SPEAKER_01And so the other person can try to sway the other's voter their direction.
SPEAKER_05And as we're going through, we may be like, you know what? I changed my opinion. So let's let's do this, guys. Alright, so our first matchup at the number two and three spot was the mummy versus terrifier. Matt, what do you got?
SPEAKER_01So this was a tough one for me because I enjoyed the terrifier and I thoroughly enjoyed the mummy. Yeah. So I'm gonna, I'm gonna I we've got a lot of shit to go through, so I'm not gonna I'm not gonna waste a lot of time. I went to the mummy. Okay. Um, simply because just I love the story, I love the whole start of the movie, the way they explained everything. So so I I went with the mummy. Nice. Shelly, what about you?
SPEAKER_06Alright. Um, I really looked at obviously what I enjoyed the most, and not too sugarcoated a lot, but I really went back to the mummy and you know, the overall enjoyability of how short it was. It was clear, cut, concise, good quality, decent sound, okay acting. Yeah. Whereas versus terrifier, you had some cheesy acting, some overgore.
SPEAKER_01The gun.
SPEAKER_06I mean, he's walking around Buffalo Billing. I mean, I mean, but it had its it had its good points, but they just didn't outweigh the mummy. So I went the mummy as well.
SPEAKER_01Nice. Derek, how about you? What do you got?
SPEAKER_05So it was tough, like you said, you know, classic universal against I'm in for the gore. I love the gore, and terrifier is just absolutely gory. And I myself had terrifier moving forward. Oh but it was such it was fine margins. And the only reason Terrifier won is because if I'm if I was given the choice between the two, I'm gonna watch Terrifier again. Okay, so that's the only reason, but I'm a thousand percent okay with the mummy moving forward on a side. All right, so I'm gonna say the mummy moves forward.
SPEAKER_06Alright, we have a winner. Mummy is going on.
SPEAKER_05Alright, guys. Next up, we have a battle between four and five, which is the taking of Deborah Logan and the visitor.
SPEAKER_04Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06I'd like to personally take this one uh first. Please do. Absolutely. I I don't know if our listeners will remember The Visitor. It was very bad. Yes. And I want to say Deborah Logan was one of the first really good ones we watched in the beginning. And it's one of those movies where you can introduce someone to horror.
SPEAKER_03You're welcome. Absolutely. Yes, thank you. Thank you.
SPEAKER_06That was a Matt pick. So um, hands down, I never need to see Space Jesus again. Um, I picked Deborah Logan.
SPEAKER_01Matt? Absolutely. Um, I did not care for the visitor. It was a horrible movie. Terrible. So uh I I definitely went with uh the taking of Deborah Logan.
SPEAKER_06It's probably one of my new top found footage films. Oh, yes. It was very well done. Sound was good.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. All right, Derek, end it. So this is gonna be the first unanimous decision. We're all going the taking of Deborah Logan. Yeah, the visitor was just way too long. There, I don't know, it's too many bits and pieces, and it could have been amazing. They had fantastic actors in it and some really good performances.
SPEAKER_06Great 70 soundtrack.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you loved it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, it was just all like tricky.
SPEAKER_05So it it had potential, but uh obviously we're a horror podcast. It was way too science fiction. So Deborah Logan definitely got the nod for me. So Deborah Logan, moving on.
SPEAKER_01So while while we're putting that on there, um, I'm just gonna make a quick announcement. If you hear any of the jingling of the ice, I want to thank uh Shelly for uh bringing us a little drinky poo, a little bourbon for us today. Yeah, we're celebrating.
SPEAKER_06I broke out some of the expensive bourbon for our last episode of the season.
SPEAKER_05And it is delicious, it's very good. It's not gonna go off the rails like the visitor.
SPEAKER_06But let's not let us not forget the visitor episode.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you know what? That was a perfect timing, too. I know.
SPEAKER_06Man, man, we will probably never drink like that during an episode again.
SPEAKER_01How dare you say that?
SPEAKER_02Everything was so one of these days. It was so loud.
SPEAKER_01Maybe, maybe not with the headphones and the microphone in front of our face. Right.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I hear you. So we're moving on into our seven and eight spot, which is Phantasm versus Ichi the killer.
SPEAKER_06Why don't you kick this one off, Derek? Ichi, Ichi, Ichi, Taka, whatever. Um this this movie was one of your personal picks of the season that you were looking forward to. So I want you to kick off Ichi versus Phantasm.
SPEAKER_05Phantasm I never saw. I've always wanted to see. So that was the reason it ended up on the list with Ichi the Killer. I watched it back when originally when it came out, and it was just an ultraviolet movie, and I remember that, and that stuck with me, and I was like, oh, this will be a great film for us to talk about. But it being a horror podcast, there is nothing horror about Ichi the Killer. It's just an ultraviolet, ultraviolet, ultraviolet gore movie. And uh Phantasm, the tall man, like we said in the episode, like one of the greatest scary bad guys in any films. That doesn't say a lot about the film itself, but the tall man, Angus Scrim, was fantastic. So I gave the nod to Phantasm to move forward on this battle. What about you, Shelly?
SPEAKER_06Alright. Well, if you remember our Ichi Kaka Kakahari episode, I was lost.
SPEAKER_05Oh, yes. Very confused. It was hilarious. I love that episode, by the way.
SPEAKER_06Very confused. Um, I thought Ichi and Kaka were the same person.
SPEAKER_01I agree with you. I watched the movie.
SPEAKER_06I watched it too. Son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_05Son of a bitch, son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, it was it was hard to follow.
SPEAKER_05Um it was. There was like 30 fucking characters, and we didn't get like an actual proper introduction. We were just throwing. It was crazy.
SPEAKER_06There's children.
SPEAKER_04I I mean there is one child, yeah.
SPEAKER_06No, there was all the kids at the end that are just like, oh dead body, who cares? Let's go to school, anyways. Um, versus Phantasm. Now, Phantasm. Let's not forget how I had this movie hyped to me as my dad's all-time favorite horror movie. All time. And it is not that. So this was kind of both movies that I did not in love, love, love, love, love. Yes. However, I'm going to give it to Phantasm purely because I knew what was happening in Phantasm. Yeah. Well, kind of. The Jawa world is still a mystery to me, but um, I don't know if it ever gets solved, and I watched all five of them. So I'm giving it, I'm giving it to Phantasm. Yeah. Matt. So we got two Phantasm.
SPEAKER_01It's it's it's a unanimous because I just did not like Itchy. Itchy was a terrible movie. I wasn't convinced from the episode that you didn't like Itchy. You didn't know that? No, I I thought you were still on defense about it. I was I was. No, Phantasm. So I mean, it just to me, I liked it. I enjoyed it because it's just it's it's your typical 70s horror movie. Yes. You I think it was 70s or 60 or late 60s or whatever. I think it's 79. But yeah, I I I enjoyed it. I thought it was a good movie, and I still think it's a good movie. So yeah, I definitely went Phantasm.
SPEAKER_05All right, great guys. So the battle between 7 and 8, Phantasm and Ichi the Killer, Phantasms moving on. Fantastic.
SPEAKER_06It's just so fantastic.
SPEAKER_05Our next battle is between spot nine and ten, which was Mother versus City of the Dead. So, Shelly, I'm gonna give it to you first.
SPEAKER_06No, I want to.
SPEAKER_05No, I know I know this is a tough one, so I wanted to get to you first.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, this is a hard one. Um, Mother, I went into knowing a little bit about it, um, which I think helped. And after a couple watches, I did think it got a bad rap. Um critics-wise, I think there's some great acting and I think it's unique in its own right. Um, as far as City of the Dead, I went in with low expectations because some of the older movies we've seen weren't the best. And it blew me away as far as an older 1960s movies goes. Um, so but dang.
SPEAKER_00It's tough.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but I'm gonna give it to what was my ratings on uh mother and city of the dead. Let's look at the ratings really quick before I give my my response.
SPEAKER_05So for Shelly, for let's see. So for City of the Dead, you gave it a four, okay, which is solid. And then for Mother, you gave it a four point five.
SPEAKER_06And you know what my pick was mother in the end of the day, and I didn't, you know, I don't have my ratings written down, but I did pick mother. I did give it to mother. So uh what about you, Matt?
SPEAKER_01So I had a little bit of a struggle, but not that much. Okay, not that much. Um, for some reason, Mummy and Terrifier were more of a struggle for me than this one. Um, I just really liked Mother. Oh, City of the Dead was great. I love I just loved like the mummy, City of the Dead just gives you the story. They start from the beginning, you know, of what it is and how it became that and all this, but but Mother was just to me was was a uh step above. Yeah. So yeah, I give it to Mother.
SPEAKER_05Was it because Jennifer Lawrence is in it and you gotta crush it?
SPEAKER_01I do love Jennifer Lawrence, but that is not the sole reason. Okay, but yeah, that's I gave it to Mother.
SPEAKER_05Alright, cool. For me, there was a tie between scary and writing. Obviously, the writing for Mother was fantastic. I think the the imagery and the the story of the City of the Dead was more scary to me, but for me it came down to which one would I watch again. And for me, mother gets better with the more you watch it because you catch more of the subliminal messages about this uh relationship between Mother Nature and the Creator. So for me, I had to go mother.
SPEAKER_06So Alright, I thought we'd at least get one of us to pick City of the Dead and we'd had to fight it out.
SPEAKER_05Well, I it sounded like it was really close for all of us. It was, yeah, and I think you know, justifiably, mother is moving on.
SPEAKER_01So mother moves. This is what's great about this because if you pinned up some of these movies against some others, you know, at least it'd be a different story. Yeah, it'd be a different story, and we do it at random where we just pick it. Yeah. So this is what's great about this.
SPEAKER_06Alright, so that ends our first bit on the left hand side.
SPEAKER_05We're gonna go back to the top on the left-hand side. This film gotta buy Friday the 13th, and it is up against the mummy, which won our first round. So Friday the 13th versus Mummy.
SPEAKER_06Derek, why don't you kick this one off? Because we got a classic in the mix. Two classics.
SPEAKER_05I know, I know. So for me, writing, I would say, oh my gosh. Mummy's writing was fantastic. Just the whole emotep coming back and trying to resurrect his wife was fantastic. Obviously, Friday the 13th is more scary with the cat and mouse chasing Who's the Killer? Yeah, the hook at the end is fantastic. But the writing on Friday the 13th is great though, too, because Victor Miller killed it. So, um, which one am I gonna watch again? I'm gonna watch Friday the 13th again. So Friday the 13th moves on for me.
SPEAKER_06So all right, what about you, Matt? What do you got about?
SPEAKER_01Ditto. I mean, I like the mummy. Uh great stor. I keep going back to the story. Great story, but it it's a classic. Friday the 13th. Um, it it uh there was no contest.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, I think when I looked at the two, I obviously was like, well, I just picked Mummy over Terrifier, which was hard. Yes, and now is it better than Friday the 13th? And for me, it's like it's the birth of a franchise, and I think that outweighs one good movies from from the 50s or whenever it was from. But I picked Friday the 13th as well. I had to let the slasher series move on. And it was scary. I mean, I jumped, it was, yeah. Yeah, so I mean it definitely wins in Scare Factor. So I picked Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_05All right, guys, looks like we got Friday the 13th moving on in our battle with the mummy.
SPEAKER_06Man, it's so sad when you see one go. I know, especially the one you love so much.
SPEAKER_01It's like I said, pin these up against other movies be a complete different story.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05I can't believe the next round we have. Alright, guys, so this film got a bye for some unknown reason because the trick-or-treat monster bag is just the way it is. Uh, but this was at the number six spot, and this was the Demented, which was a zombie slash infectious disease rage movie, versus Phantasm. So, Matt, I want to hear you. Not gonna get into it. So, Phantasm right away. Phantasm.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I mean, I think the hard part for all of us with our personal lives, and this is our fun hobby. Demented came out during a time where we all kept getting sick. Yes, and we just couldn't get through it. And then one day I was like, boys, you need to do it. Like, get it out. I watched it though, I did, and I did comment on it, and um, yeah, hands down, as much as I dislike Phantasm, I have to give it to uh the uh Phantasm. I always had a C shirt. I didn't give it to Demented. No, fuck Demented. Um The Demented, sorry. Uh I gave it to Phantasm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, nice.
SPEAKER_06I'm sorry to give you all a hard attack there.
SPEAKER_03Did you already did you already do yours?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I did it quick. It was easy. There's no question. Demented was terrible. So Demented, the Demented was the worst fucking movie I ever seen.
SPEAKER_06That ending though.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's super, super terrible. Anyway, sorry, Derek, your turn.
SPEAKER_05The Demented, you know, in getting ready for this final episode, I I went back and looked at uh some of our ratings, and I was ashamed that I gave the Demented a two.
SPEAKER_06You should be.
SPEAKER_05You also gave it a two.
SPEAKER_06Oh, did I really?
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_06Boom! But what did I give Phantasm?
SPEAKER_05Uh let's see. You gave Phantasm a two as well.
SPEAKER_06Well, they both sucked in my eyes.
SPEAKER_05Okay. So if I could change, this fucking film would get a one. I hated the Demented so much. I think I gave it a one. You did. Yeah. You were were a spot.
SPEAKER_06I didn't know why I was like given a I I was sick.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. You're delirious with your sickness. But uh yeah, the Demented was just the probably the shittiest movie I've watched. You know, I talked about it in the episode, but it just it felt like a film that just was a rushed school project for someone to turn in. And it's such a shit film. So uh I love the tall man, Angus Scrim, fucking legend. So Phantasm, you're moving forward. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so we're getting closer and closer to uh to the uh left side of the bracket being completed.
SPEAKER_05That's right. We're gonna get to uh the final two on the left hand side and then jump to the right hand side for just for those following at home. So we have two more battles on the left-hand side to go through, and then we're jumping to the other side. So, guys, let's go back up to the top of the left-hand side and go Friday the 13th versus the taking of Deborah Logan. I'm gonna give it to Matt first because the taking of Deborah was brought by Matt. So, Matt, take it away.
SPEAKER_01So, this is my baby.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I know.
SPEAKER_01So it was a good one. It was it was really this was this was a very hard one for me. I'm like, oh. Because Fri again, a classic movie and one of one of my favorite movies, uh, The Taking of Deborah Logan. I struggled and struggled, and I and I I had to come to a decision and I had to just go Friday the 13th. Yeah, it's a classic, it's just a great, great movie. As much as I love Deborah, it was Friday the 13th for me. All right. Yeah. What about you, Derek? Sorry, Deborah.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, um just the writing, like I said, even though I gave uh the mummy the score for the first uh battle, the writing from Victor Miller. I mean, he would go on to work in soap operas. And obviously, you know, the writings in soap operas are all about the hooks. So the writing was fantastic. I just loved the you know, the cat and mouse chasing game of Friday the thirteenth. I think it's a scarier film. Uh I do and that's so for Deborah Logan, I gotta give it a shout out for the final Scene. It's probably the scare one of the scariest final scenes in a horror film that I've seen. It's so fucking good. Yeah. But I I can't I can't deny Friday the 13th. So I have Friday the 13th moving on as well. What about you, Shelly?
SPEAKER_06And I think we have Friday the 13th in the top too. I mean, it's just Deborah Logan is scary, and it was a new movie to me. So it was very enjoyable for me to see a horror movie I'd had never seen, and it'd be as good as Deborah Logan was. This was actually my first time ever seeing Friday the 13th, if y'all remember correctly.
SPEAKER_05That's right.
SPEAKER_06I've only never seen the Jason parts or those kind of movies.
SPEAKER_05Did you see was it part two and on that you've seen? I didn't. Do you remember which one?
SPEAKER_06No, honestly, I think my first Jason movie was Friday vs. Jason, and not something like before that. But I just never was into the Friday the 13th franchise. I was I'm a nightmare girl, so cool. I never really watched the Jason movies, but I never seen the original. I you know, I knew that his mom was in the first one and it it didn't have him, but I gave it to Friday the 13th as well. I mean, Deborah Logan is doing great stuff for new horror movies, don't get me wrong, but you just can't keep a franchise classic like Friday the 13th out. Alright guys.
SPEAKER_05Looks like Friday the 13th is just moving on to the final two spot on the left hand side. So we got one more battle. It is Phantasm versus Mother. Shelly, let's go back to you. So we got a tennis match going on.
SPEAKER_06So you know how I said I'm I'm disappointed I let a movie get as far as it got?
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_06Mother is that movie because I just like there's other scary movies, horror movies that I would rather have kept on over Mother, like Terrifier or the Mummy. Yeah. I would love to see them in mother's position right now.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Um clearly I picked Mother because I hate Phantasm. Yeah, liked Mother. But I don't like that it made it as far as it did. There's other movies that have been thrown to the wayside. Yeah. Yeah. And it because of that, mother has made it in the top two because of the seatings.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. But that's that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
SPEAKER_06It's I would say it's a low C seated bracket. Yeah, you know, bet on Mother because you may win. Who knows? So we'll see what happens. But Matt, what did you do?
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, I enjoyed Mother. Phantasm I enjoyed as well, but I had to give it to Mother. It just it moved me more than Phantasm. I mean, I like I like Phantasm, uh, but yeah, I went I went the mother out.
SPEAKER_05So for me, I went with Mother as well. And initially, go ahead.
SPEAKER_06I I'm just shocked that you were let the tall man go.
SPEAKER_05I know it and it was tough because there were so many unanswered questions and Phantasm. And after I've watched all five of the films, because I I love the tall man, he's such a great character, nothing was ever truly answered, and there's just too many plot holes in it, and something that's so well written as Mother, and initially in the episode, I said for me the thing that was I think I gave it a three because I had mixed feelings, uh, because I didn't feel it was a horror film, but after sitting with it and letting letting it marinate, I guess, for a little bit, it is a horror film. There's there's tension throughout the film, there is this like heaviness sitting on us as a viewers that like there is something a doom ending coming, and we don't know exactly how it's gonna happen, but there is a lot of horrors to it. So I I gave it to Mother. Just fantastic film.
SPEAKER_06Alright. So that looks like that makes our top two for the left hand side.
SPEAKER_01So it looks like uh Friday Friday, what's that?
SPEAKER_04I said I'm writing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you are. So it looks like we're gonna have uh Friday the 13th versus uh Mother on the left hand side here.
SPEAKER_05We are so guys stay tuned for those following at home. Jump over to the right hand side because our first battle on that side is between 12 and 13, which is ginger snaps and the New York Ripper.
SPEAKER_06Matt, you want to kick this one up?
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, sure. Uh New York Ripper uh wasn't as bad as the Demented, but it was still pretty damn bad. Um but uh you know looking back, so this is our this was one of our earlier uh movies. Yeah, it was.
SPEAKER_05I think it was our second.
SPEAKER_01It was after Henry Top five at least.
SPEAKER_06It was after Henry.
SPEAKER_01So after watching the second episode. After watching a lot of these movies, I I think that whatever my whatever my vote was, I think I would put it up a little bit higher because I mean I do appreciate a little bit more looking at a lot of these other movies. However, it's still a it's still a bad movie, but not as bad.
SPEAKER_04I want to dedicate a murder to you.
SPEAKER_01There you go. So that being said, ginger snaps. I went with ginger snaps because I did enjoy ginger snaps. So you enjoyed it more? A lot more. I gotcha.
SPEAKER_05A lot more. Shelly, what about you?
SPEAKER_06All right, so ginger snaps is actually an episode that I wasn't here for.
SPEAKER_05Yes, that's right.
SPEAKER_06Uh Jamie recorded Ginger Snaps.
SPEAKER_05It was Lisa.
SPEAKER_06Oh, Lisa recorded ginger snaps with y'all.
SPEAKER_05Our our beloved Lisa, who used to be Lisa C, now Lisa R, she she covered for us, but she gave it a three stabs. Uh do you have you seen Ginger Snaps?
SPEAKER_06Truth be told. I never went back and watched it once we seated the back. Let me tell you why. Let me tell you the movie that gets the bye is gonna go up against this movie. Oh, yeah. And it's high tension.
SPEAKER_05Yes.
SPEAKER_06And maybe I'm getting far ahead of myself. I just don't think either of these movies are gonna win in the next battle. Yes. I could care less which one of these movies moves. Uh um just because New York Ripper, I hated it.
SPEAKER_05So I can persuade you for New York Ripper. Is that what you're telling me?
SPEAKER_06Maybe. I'm whatever it is, it's not gonna win. So why don't you go?
SPEAKER_05Okay. Um for me, I liked uh I liked the writing of New York Ripper because I do, you know, with Friday the 13th, I like the the cat and mouse chasing. Uh I liked the hook that we thought it was Skelenda, but it ended up being Peter Busch, which was uh I forget the final girl's name, but it was it was the boyfriend. So I love the hook. I love the gratuitous violence. I had New York Ripper moving on. And Ginger Snaps is a great film, though, too. The writing on that's really good. The thought of you know, coinciding this werewolf taking over this young girl who's also going through her menstrual cycles for the first time. Yeah, so it's really it's a great idea for a film, but again, it came down to which one do I want to watch again? And clearly you guys know because I sent you a picture last week. I was watching the New York Ripper. So that's that's why it went forward for me. So for me, it was just a funner film.
SPEAKER_01So I could I could sit here and argue with you and fight fight you, but like Shelly, I really don't give a shit. So I mean between the two movies, between the two movies, like Shelly said, you know, the next that ha that's up to battle, it's like you know what it's gonna be. Yeah, so I know.
SPEAKER_06I mean, I put Ginger Snaps down just because I hated a New York Ripper, but I honestly could say New York Ripper just because I didn't watch Ginger Snaps.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, see Ginger Snaps to me was just a lot better of a movie.
SPEAKER_05Well, well, I'm gonna put because it doesn't matter, anyways. The New York Ripper is moving on. Yeah, I want to give it to New York Ripper. I I want the New York Ripper to get a little shine.
SPEAKER_01Uh Shelly's Shelly's giving you the New York Ripper.
SPEAKER_05Damn it, you can have it.
SPEAKER_06You can have it.
SPEAKER_05I'm so happy uh that New York Ripper won the last round, guys. You have no idea. I don't, I don't I wanna I wanna fight you about it, but but I don't. It's too cold out. It's a Florida. It's rainy and cold, but I'll fist fight you, my friend. New York Ripper's terrible. Oh you're terrible. Moving on. Alright, guys. Next up is between spot 14 and 15, which is Henry versus Sinister Shelly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, you all know how much I hate Henry. The only thing that Henry had going for it is our boy Michael Rooker.
SPEAKER_04Rooker.
SPEAKER_06No, oh my god, no, the TV salesman.
SPEAKER_05Oh my gosh, Fence. The TV salesman. Oh shit, yeah, that's right. Wow. What was his we we looked up his name, everything. We loved him. He's our boy. Look it up, look it up again.
SPEAKER_01We need to shout him. He's dead, but we still need to shout him out. So keep talking about it. Oh my gosh. I'll find it here. Fence. What a smart ass guy.
SPEAKER_06Is just too sweet.
SPEAKER_05Insane. Did it get on your pants? It did. My pants.
SPEAKER_06It's gonna smell like apples. Apples.
SPEAKER_05It's gonna be first pressed apples.
SPEAKER_06Fresh press first pressed, fresh pressed.
SPEAKER_05First pressed. Okay. So you got the original pressed apples. So um that's why it went to the next round.
SPEAKER_06So yeah, I hated Henry for everything that it was. I thought even Michael Rooker wasn't the best in it. Um it had rape, and it was just disappointing all around. And then we have it up against Sinister, which was scary, was good, had a storyline, great acting. So hands down, no contests. Like I said, our boy Fence is the only shining star in Henry. Um Sinister gets it for me.
SPEAKER_05So all right, so Shelly's going Sinister. Uh for me, yeah, like Sinister was terrifying. It was probably, you know, up against most of the films, and it's probably one of the scariest films we've watched this season. Bagul, just the imagery and the subtleness of him in the beginning, and just being in those eight millimeter films, which just like uh Shelly said earlier in the season, but Chef's Kiss. Um Henry was Henry was okay. You know, it was clearly I guess a lower budget film, but uh it just it it didn't pack enough of a punch for me. Uh so I had Sinister moving forward. Matt, have you found Fence's name yet? I am I'm getting there. I am getting there.
SPEAKER_01I thought I was. You're edging me for far too long. So what happened was is I was I was looking through my notes, and I think at some point I switched over to my my cell phone instead of my tablet. So just Fence's name is Ray Atherton.
SPEAKER_05Atherton! Ray Atherton. Ray Atherton. That's right. So Ray Atherton. What a what a great character. Yeah. So Matt, we got two Sinisters, Henry.
SPEAKER_01So I think we gave Henry a four. I so I I again maybe it's nostalgia. I like the older the older sort of movies, and I and I and I do like um I I liked Henry. I did like Henry. Um Sinister, there were some things. This one was a tricky one for me, believe me. Oh, interesting. Because to tell Sinister, there were things about it that I did not I did not care for. Even though Sinister was was a good movie, I battled with it because Henry I really enjoyed. I did like it. Now the creepy brother in Henry, the the the sort of rapey stuff was was. It was all yeah, it was disgusting.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Thomas Towes, the actor, right, right. Otis. Otis was a character.
SPEAKER_01So um in Sinister, I just didn't like him as not Ethan Hawk necessarily. I didn't like his character. Yeah. He played his character fine. I just didn't like his because he was a shit dad. He was a shit dad, very self-dished. You couldn't get past that? I couldn't get past it because he was he was he was just a shit dad. He was all about himself.
SPEAKER_06A dad who's kind of absent and does shitty things, or a brother who wapes his sister. I don't know. Which one? I'm just can't wait for the big thing.
SPEAKER_01It wasn't about the brother. It wasn't about the brother, it was about Henry, the guy who's killing people for no reason.
SPEAKER_06You're right.
SPEAKER_01That that, excuse me, Shelly. Excuse me. That beat the shit out of the brother and killed the brother who has raped his sister. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And then killed the sister. She ended up in a fucking suitcase at the end. Did you really know that?
SPEAKER_01Yes, we do.
SPEAKER_07Matthew.
SPEAKER_01Listen.
SPEAKER_06So I'm ready, I'm ready for his choice.
SPEAKER_01I can't wait to hear this. So I went with Sinister.
SPEAKER_05Oh god. So why did why because you just shit on a little bit? Why did you go with Sinister?
SPEAKER_01So I went with Sinister only because I I liked the acting in it. I thought the acting was a lot better. Um the story. I mean, Henry was a was a true story though. Yeah. But I mean, it's I I guess I guess Sinister was too nice. Ooh. I get I get I get. I mean, I don't really I just I guess I just whittled it down to which movie would I would I want to go back and watch. So that's what I that's what I chose. Yeah. Sinister was to me, it just made more sense. I mean, I like I did like it. And I get it. I understand the rapey sort of stuff bothers people. I get that. But I also I also know it's a movie. Yeah. I mean, and it and there is stuff like that in a real world. Yeah. I understand that, and I'm sensitive to it, but it doesn't bother me as much. That's all.
SPEAKER_05To view it, it doesn't bother me.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. Um and I totally forgot about the scene where they go into the house and and rob the people or rape the wife, murder the son.
SPEAKER_05Oh, the next snap on a son. Yeah. That was tough for me. The next snap on the show.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Shelly. Yeah. I didn't hate it as much as you did.
SPEAKER_05And I'm in I'm into shocking films too, and that's kind of what Henry turned into be was just like a shocking film. Not not as scary, just more shocking than anything else. Rape is scary. It is. It is.
SPEAKER_06Rape is scary. It is. And so are serial killers.
SPEAKER_05So are ghosts. Supernatural evil entities called Baghoul that abduct your children. I'll take fakes murder for real scary thing. Murder your family.
SPEAKER_01I get that. I get that. I appreciate it.
SPEAKER_05Alright, so looks like Sinister's moving on, guys.
SPEAKER_06Thank God. You were worrying me for a second, Matt.
SPEAKER_01I I th I I'm kind of nervous. I think I might have lost a friend.
SPEAKER_05No, I I appreciate I appreciate that you, you know, because there are gonna be times when we're going up against films that we love, but we gotta drop them. So yeah. Alright, guys, let's get to our next one, which is spots 17 and 18 against the Cabin in the Woods and Mandy. I'm gonna jump in first.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, go for it. Go for it.
SPEAKER_05So Mandy, I enjoyed. It was it was another ultra-violent movie. Not necessarily scary. There was like scary parts to it, but not as much as The Cabin in the Woods. Cabin in the Woods, seriously, some of the best writing we've had this season for a film. A lot of creativeness with some of the characters, and and honestly, like it's a perfect balance of horror and comedy. Because they're the parts that were funny were fucking hilarious. The parts that were scary were fucking terrifying. So I gave it to The Cabin in the Woods. What about you, Shelley?
SPEAKER_06Well, again, I was sick. Yeah, we had no Jamie here for this episode. No, I wasn't here. Jamie did Mandy with the other one.
SPEAKER_05Oh, for me. I'm sorry, I was looking at the Cabin in the Woods. So this is an episode that each of you missed. Yeah. So Shelly was out for Mandy, and then Matt was out for the Cabin in the Woods. Matt, you gave us your thoughts. Shelly, uh, I think Jamie just filled in. We didn't get yours. Yeah, we had John for Cabin, right?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, John watched Cabin. Uh Matt did watch Cabin. I did not watch Mandy.
SPEAKER_05Have you ever seen Mandy?
SPEAKER_06I started it a few times and it was so slow. It is. Yes. So slow. But then um, again, as everybody knows, I I fell ill and um we kept things rolling uh to keep the season going. So when I, of course, saw the bracket matchup again. Um I saw Mandy versus Cabin in the Woods, and I knew that I did not have to watch Mandy because uh it was There's no way no contest. Yeah, Cabin in the Woods wins it for me.
SPEAKER_05And that's a fair point about Mandy. Like Mandy is a long movie and it starts very slow to get to the action.
SPEAKER_06So okay that I never seen it or ever.
SPEAKER_01What about you, Matt? So you either like him or hate him. Uh-huh. I I love Nicolas Cage. I love Nicolas Cage. I thought now you're talking about like you're talking about the Cabin in the Woods had everything. Comedy, it had, it had uh the the scary factor and everything. And I thought that Mandy had comedy in it as well. Nicolas Cage's character, just him as an actor and him putting in it's like himself. Yeah, it's like he's not that, he's not the person in Mandy, he's Nicolas Cage, yeah. The guy screaming in the bathroom. Like that's him. So that being said, I thought they were both great movies, but I had to go with the cabin in in the woods simply because the the the writing in it was awesome. I love the I love the Truman show style where it's like everything's being kind of manipulated. I liked I just liked the way that it was was written. I I love all the actors in it. Minus um what's the one guy, the the the nerdy guy, not the pothead, not not uh Oh yeah, I can't remember his name, but he was the scholar. Yeah, the scholar, yeah, the hot scholar.
SPEAKER_05Like I believe, I believe it was John's uh least favorite character as well. John said just he got nothing. Yeah, I don't really care.
SPEAKER_01I didn't really care for him. Yeah, again, I love Mandy. I would watch Mandy again. I I didn't mind the slow start because I just I I enjoy Nicolas Cage, I really do. Yeah, so but I gave it to the cabin. It's a great movie, it really is.
SPEAKER_05Well, you finally got an actual like horror comedy, yeah.
SPEAKER_01So it was that's that's my that's my thing. I know.
SPEAKER_05So you finally got it, and you know and both of them too.
SPEAKER_01I mean, uh the cabin was with there were uh hilarious parts in it, yeah. From from just the beginning and stuff. I mean, it's just a great movie. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So looks like we got the cabin woods moving on. Next up is our battle between the spots 19 and 20, which is thirst versus the innkeepers. I wanna I'm gonna give it to Matt.
SPEAKER_06You wanna give it to Matt? All right, all right, Matt. Kick it off.
SPEAKER_05Let's do it. So I mean your your preparation for thirst angered me so much, so please go. Oh, really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, explain why. Just tell me. I don't care.
SPEAKER_05You didn't give me shit about it. You just said you hated it the whole fucking episode. Well, yeah, I mean, I guess I'm pretty sure I know who you're picking, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01So I could I could have come with a little more substance, right? I could have I could have given a little bit more, but it was a dumb fucking movie. Yeah, it was stupid. I wonder if John's watched it yet. Now, if you put if you put thirst up against the demented, then we'll have a conversation. I I know what you I have.
SPEAKER_05I I would I I'd you would choose but what would you choose? I would choose the uh thirst or the demented. I thought the writing was fucking shit. There was nothing redeemable about it, it was garbage. I would go thirst.
SPEAKER_01So thirst between thirst and innkeeper. We're getting yeah, we're getting sidetracked.
SPEAKER_05That was me. I asked the question.
SPEAKER_04It's fine, it's fine.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead and just a terrible movie. I hated it. Um the vampire was not scary. There was nothing about it that was scary. Hotar was ho terrible. It was the worst.
SPEAKER_05Was that your attempt at a pump? Pun? Pum.
SPEAKER_01No, a pump. Yes, a pun. But uh the innkeeper, I thought it was a good kind of starter movie, like we talked about. So hands down, hands down, the innkeeper.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Thirst was garbage. Shelly. That's Italian for garbage, if you know.
SPEAKER_06I just want to point out really quick, I'm looking at the ratings over the whole season.
SPEAKER_01Don't look at those. No, dude.
SPEAKER_06Never gave anything below a two, first of all. I know. I have to question his taste in movies as it is.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's why. So on Thirst, and well, Thirst, no, I'm staying at two. Um, at for the Demented, I'm I'm giving a one because that does make me anxious.
SPEAKER_06But I can usually Yeah, it's too late now.
SPEAKER_05But I you know, I try to find the silver lining of films, and even with Thirst, like there was some films don't need you to do that. I know, but it's like the Demented.
SPEAKER_06I'm just a positive guy.
SPEAKER_01You can edit this out if you want. I don't care.
SPEAKER_05I'm never fucking doing that.
SPEAKER_01This is going out of how we're talking. Shut your mouth. So I wonder what did I give Thirst and what did I give Innkeeper? Yeah, I know I gave Inkeer.
SPEAKER_06Thirst uh one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that sounds right.
SPEAKER_06And you gave Innkeepers a two, which I'm wondering if now you would give it something higher.
SPEAKER_01I would definitely give it about 3.5, I think. Yeah. So, anyways, so yeah, I gave it to I gave it to Innkeeper on that. Yeah. So who's next? Shelly?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so um again, two movies I've never seen. Innkeepers, um, Ty West. Early films. Yeah, which you know, um, surprise I had never heard of it. It was a good, scary movie. It was a good ghost movie. Um, Thirst was just about a gay vampire who had nothing better to do.
SPEAKER_02So But bite dicks, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Right. So um not you know bite dicks.
SPEAKER_05That's what he did. It was more about biting the dicks. That was his only move.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05And oh, he did rip that guy's head apart. And then you did some kung fu stuff on the people at the end. Remember the evil tracksuit cults.
SPEAKER_06And then there was that whole rick'em roll about a bunch of malarkey going on about the guy and his sex doll reindeer wife.
SPEAKER_03Like the animated sequence.
SPEAKER_06Well, uh, anyways, innkeepers had a start and a finish, a clear storyline, decent acting, scary. Innkeepers gets it, hands down.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. Um so I'll jump in. Uh the innkeepers had the innkeepers had Kelly McGillis, it moves on. Kelly McGillis was.
SPEAKER_06No. I sat down and I thought about it. I thought Top Gun's it.
SPEAKER_05Top Gun Cutie, she moves on. Uh but like seriously. So I I think in the episode for Innkeepers, I said uh this reminded me of you know one of the episodes you would watch for Are You Afraid of the Dark?
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_05And that's so nostalgic for me because that probably was like, now that I'm thinking about it now, but that was the first like scary stuff that I actually watched. You know, the Innkeepers was, even though it wasn't crazy scary, it was just subtle little stuff. No, it was a good story. I think I think the main girl was kind of flat, and that's probably what may have messed the film up. But uh the innkeepers definitely moving on.
SPEAKER_01Well, the relationship, too. Between between uh the two characters, Sarah Paxton with the actress. Yeah. It's very odd.
SPEAKER_03Oh, yeah, those two main characters.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Alright, so Innkeepers gets it. Easy. Done.
SPEAKER_01Done.
SPEAKER_05And check and mark. Alright. We are heading to the top of the bracket. And we're going high tension versus my beloved, the New York Ripper. Can we just do this one quickly? So I I actually want to start this one off because much like Matt brought Matt brought uh the taking of Deborah Logan, I brought High Tension. You know, I viewed New York Ripper and I loved it. I love the craziness about it, but High Tension was just it's a brutal movie with with crazy kills. I love the hook where Maria is the killer, and I just it's such a fucking good movie. And I brought it to the table. I think everyone enjoyed it for the most part. And I'm sorry, New York Ripper, I love you, but high tension fucking murders New York Ripper. Alright, Matt, you're laughing. You go next. Oh. Is that what is that what it I don't know what it takes? I guess so. Shelly didn't laugh quick enough.
SPEAKER_01So uh so yeah, I mean there's no contest on this either. I mean, yeah, it's it's pretty uh it's pretty easy. High tension. High tension was a lot better of a movie than uh New York Ripper. So Shelly.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, and this is where like the seating really kind of matters because that's when I looked at high tension sitting there waiting for a c opponent, and I looked at the two potential opponents it had, and I said, doesn't matter who wins that first one because I know who's gonna win this one. And it goes to high tension for me. It was uh another movie I had never seen and shocked and had surprises and enjoyable.
SPEAKER_05So after we filmed the episode, I remember I showed you, you know, we talked about the stuff that was edited out, and I showed you the scene in the car at the end, yeah, where it's from the back of the car and the blood gets shot on the camera. So like we miss some of the stuff when you watch it through Tubi. But uh, if you get the you know director's cut or whatever, it's it's so much more gory or worth it. So go on Amazon and get your film. So all right, looks like high tension's moving on.
SPEAKER_06All right, we're almost to our top two on the right hand side.
SPEAKER_01That means high tension and sinister just a mess from here on out.
SPEAKER_06It's legit mess from here on out.
SPEAKER_05Guys, this next one's the one that I dreaded the most. Yeah. So at the 16th spot, we had the thing, and the cabin in the woods won against Mandy. So we got the thing versus the Cabin in the Woods, Shelly.
SPEAKER_06All right. So I'm gonna look, I I got the ratings in front of me. I'm gonna look back at it. The thing I gave a four and a half, very high.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh Cabin in the Woods, I gave a five, four point nine five.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, you you started four point nine, and you're like, I and I wanted to give it a five. And then you gave it a five, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Um, I didn't do that all season. Well, I did on Sinister, so I mean Ooh, you did that on Sinister. I did give Sinister a five, too. So here's the thing. Um, here's the thing.
SPEAKER_05The thing about Snappa Doodles.
SPEAKER_06They're they're two great movies from two different eras. Uh, and they are both really good in their own justifiable reasons. Both have great monster makeup, done, talented makeup artist, great scripts, good acting. I mean, they are so comparable. However, going to Derek's rating system, if I had to sit there and pick which one I would watch over and over again, it's always gonna be Cabin in the Woods. And part of that is is the thing was terrifying to me as a child.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_06So I don't really like to watch the thing that was because it was scary to me when I was little. Um, but I picked Cabin in the Woods. Yeah. It went on for me. Um, it just hit all the right, hit all the right spots for me.
SPEAKER_01Oh, it's it's such a tough one. Nice. So yeah. All right, Matt, what do you got? So if you're comparing it, like we were talking about a couple times we've mentioned which movie would you go back and watch again. Um, I would probably watch the thing about 500 times. I would probably watch Cabin in the Woods 501 times. Ooh. Cabin in the Woods again was a great movie. Yeah. The thing uh is a is a phenomenal movie as well. I mean, so it was it was definitely tricky for me.
SPEAKER_06One of the worst battles we had to like I hate the Yeah, this one.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I hate it. I this one was this one. No, you're fine. This one was definitely a very, very hard one for me. So yeah. So yeah, I um like I said, 500 versus 501, I'm going with the cabin. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I gotcha. Um, for me, if we could have set up this bracket, I would have put these two films on the opposite side and probably knew they were gonna meet at the final.
SPEAKER_02Right.
SPEAKER_05So for me, our final was like right here. Uh obviously the writing, you know, I I at the beginning of the show I talked about my process through finding the you know, picking these films. For me, the writing, you can't compare the writing to, you know, the Cabinet Woods to any other film. Just fantastic writing. Uh the story as far as scarier, I actually found the thing more scary because you don't know who the bat who who's who's being imitated, who's infected with this alien virus, and who's gonna flip at any point and just annihilate people. So that was scarier for me. And then it came down to which one was gonna watch again. And I feel like for me, the thing just causes a feeling where I don't get to settle down through the whole film, and I love it. So for me, I I chose the thing to move forward. I know.
SPEAKER_01I'm I'm I'm totally fucking blown away. Really? I'm totally chose the thing over cabinet.
SPEAKER_05I was I was hoping that you guys wouldn't think I was you know showing my hand by my shirt. Listen, it's a shirt. It's a shirt. I have never seen the thing, the thing, the thing. I am totally blown away by it until this season. And I absolutely like it's it's a top three film for me. I fucking love the you've never seen the thing. I've never seen the thing until this until we started the podcast. Interesting. I know, and show it on TV loved that time. I loved it. Here's the thing.
SPEAKER_06I didn't want the thing to go out like this.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I will I will admit that I did not want it to go out like this. Right, right. The best you can do is try to sway one of us.
SPEAKER_05No, here's the thing though, like I get it. The thing's the thing is, yeah. I get it. Like I said, I wish these films would have met in the final.
SPEAKER_06I I didn't want it to go down like this, but but I totally get it.
SPEAKER_05Like, we can't, like, even though I love the writing for Father the 13th, like Cabin of the Woods, the writing is fucking phenomenal. Yeah. So, and I get it, like, there's a lot of great, like, scary films.
SPEAKER_01It's really changed everything for me as far as this bracket goes, because now there's gonna be some fighting.
SPEAKER_05I was I I was anticipating some pushback, but like I understand we all love the thing, sure. Yeah, but I was anticipating probably losing out here. But for me, I didn't want this to happen.
SPEAKER_06No, I know.
SPEAKER_05I'm I'm I think we're all sad. We're in a sad mode. We're in a sad mode here. Yeah, but uh I I accept it. I you know, The Cabin of the Woods is such a fantastic film. I it was just like it was it was fine margins, yeah. So I you know this isn't one I'm gonna like stomp around and be pissed about and be like, no, there's no way. Yeah, it's just it was the slightest little thing for me that made me want to watch it again.
SPEAKER_01And that's and that's it was just a feeling it created. Like I said, I would watch the thing 500 times. I'd watch the Cabin and Woods 501. Yeah, so it's like they were neck and neck for me.
SPEAKER_05So insane. Very, very interesting. I'm gonna call it and say the cabin moves on. I love you, thing. John Carpenter, you're the man.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Hey hey, hey. Goodbye.
SPEAKER_05So sorry. All right, we are moving back to the top of the right hand side, and we're gonna battle out between high tension and sinister. Matt.
SPEAKER_01Alright, so I mean, both of these movies to me had their flaws. Like I talked about um high tension, the sort of twist at the end I wasn't sold on. There were some details in there that I wasn't super crazy about. Sinister, again, dickhead dad. Like get over.
SPEAKER_04Stop bringing up your daddy issues, man. Yeah, really. I mean, we do have daddy issues, but yeah.
unknownSorry.
SPEAKER_05You need to stop projecting that shit.
SPEAKER_01Right. So that being said, this was, I mean, it wasn't it it wasn't as hard of a decision as the thing in the cabin. So I I chose high tension just simply because of the gore. I love the gore in it because I'm a gore, I'm a gore freak as well. Oh, we're brothers. Brothers. Brothers from the same mother. Interesting. So you go high tension. Yeah, I chose high tension. Shelly.
SPEAKER_06Which funny enough, I'm looking at your ratings, Max.
SPEAKER_01Oh boy, here we go.
SPEAKER_06And you gave high, you had high tension at a three and a half and center starter a four.
SPEAKER_01Ooh. Interesting.
SPEAKER_06And you flip the script. Flip the script.
SPEAKER_05So they've both they both have marinated in your in your horror movie sauce. Yes. And you feel like in the end. What don't you marinate things in sauce? Yeah, sure. You put them in the sauce. Put it in the sauce. So you have uh high tension coming out in front of Sinister.
SPEAKER_01Coming out, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Alright, what about you, Darren?
SPEAKER_05Don't drink while I'm asking you. Well. So high tension's my baby, but like I said, better story, more scary. Uh, I thought the the whole lore for Sinister was fantastic. I gave Sinister the nod on the writing, and scary. This is the scariest film we watched. So I gave those two marks the Sinister, so it won, but in my mark for which one would I rather watch again? Obviously high tension, but Sinister got better story and scarier. So Sinister, move forward. See, Sinister was not scary though. What are you talking about?
SPEAKER_06It wasn't scary for the lawnmower scene? Didn't make you jump out of your pants?
SPEAKER_05Did you not see Ethan Hawk in that scene? That was a real reaction. That's crazy. You weren't scared by the Sinister by the Sinister.
SPEAKER_06I'm just gonna tell you that. So you would say high tension's scarier?
SPEAKER_01I would say it wasn't scarier. Okay. I would say, I would say that uh high tension was just I was into the more gore than anything. Yeah. Gore over gore over scaring.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, Lawnmower chopping someone up isn't gory at all. Yeah, we're gonna be able to do that. You're absolutely right, Matthew.
SPEAKER_05But in uh Sinister, we didn't get a lot of gore. I think the only gore we got was the family's uh throat cutting scene. We did see some blood.
SPEAKER_01But it was all like it was it was uh I'm sorry, not sinister, I'm sorry. You're talking and I'm talking over top of you. Please go. Please go.
SPEAKER_05I get it. This is awkward. We're we're brothers, and we this is just what we fucking do. Trust me, I edit this podcast, we fucking talk over people. Go ahead. But but uh, you know, I I I get it on the gore. Obviously, I don't think you can compete with high tension as far as gore goes, but for me, for horror films, scary is much more important than gore. Because gore can be in like Ichi the Killer, but it doesn't fucking matter. That's there's nothing scary about that film. It's just an ultraviolent film with some you know terrible sexual assaults.
SPEAKER_01Well, I don't want to turn this into the Matt and Derek podcast here, but but but yeah, I mean there's some movies on here that are to me are kind of questionable as far as horror.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So, anyways. So I am sinister, you are high tension, Shelly. What you got?
SPEAKER_06Oh, hi guys.
SPEAKER_05Hey, Shelly, welcome to the show.
SPEAKER_06Hey, so um high tension had issues. Uh, there's that little guy running around giving himself blowjobs with a severed head.
SPEAKER_05He was imagining.
SPEAKER_06But why is he driving a whole truck? He's driving a whole fucking truck. Why would he be in a whole fucking truck?
SPEAKER_05This was my point. This was Maria's testimony to the cops.
SPEAKER_06Oh my god. She was schizophrenic.
SPEAKER_05This was her testimony to the pop cops. You were tension. You were on board with this for the episode.
SPEAKER_06No, I was not. Yeah, you were for the yeah. High tension scored lower than sinister. I don't, I didn't it had its issues. No, it didn't. It had its issues. That's all I'm saying. Why, okay, why did why did they have to have the blowjob scene?
SPEAKER_05No, they didn't. No, that none of that was necessary.
SPEAKER_06Frivolous. But they were frivolous.
SPEAKER_02It was shocking. So did she wait, wait, wait. Did she explain that to the cop? No, she was clearly told the copy.
SPEAKER_06Oh my gosh, why are we discussing why are we discussing high tension? I'm just telling you my problems with it.
SPEAKER_05All right. Yeah, we are this is what we do. We interrupt like assholes. Shelly, please have the floor, and Matt and I are gonna shut the fuck up. Put the mute on. Shut up. And I'm shutting up. Go, Shelly.
SPEAKER_06High tension had its issue.
SPEAKER_05So Derek, like I was saying.
SPEAKER_01Sorry.
SPEAKER_06High tension had its issues. Point, period, and a story. Yes, I liked it as a film. It also went up against Ginger Snaps and New York Ripper. It was gonna win no matter what. So now we're here and it's against Sinister, which in my mind was a very good horror movie. It had a scary guy. It was scary. It was good acting.
SPEAKER_01Can you announce EA, please?
SPEAKER_06It made me jump. So I'm giving it to Sinister.
SPEAKER_05Oh, boom. Sinister.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to fight us on it, or are you I'm not gonna keep going back to the dickhead dad?
SPEAKER_02Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06That's the only thing that made you I I can't change my mind over one thing that's your problem.
SPEAKER_02He was written that way. He was witten that way. He was without witten that way.
SPEAKER_01He was written. Written. I wish you could announce it like Shelly just did for about three minutes now. I know.
SPEAKER_05Sinister wins it. Sinister wins it. Guys, let's move on to our next suck it forever.
SPEAKER_06That's why he's got a little thumb.
SPEAKER_02What the hell, Shelly? Oh, mayonnaise. Man, mayonnaise.
SPEAKER_06Cheese and rice. Okay. I'm over it. We're we're down to the top two. We're gonna get our last movie in the top two.
SPEAKER_05I was gonna say. On the right hand side, that's right. Yeah. So our next battle is the Cabin in the Woods versus the Innkeepers.
SPEAKER_06Do we even have to discuss it?
SPEAKER_05Nah.
SPEAKER_06I mean, what is but well, yeah. I mean, we all had this matchup on our bracket.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, so uh I'm I'm just gonna say uh Innkeepers, you know, it had that nostalgic feel for me, but for God's sakes, the Cabin in the Woods. Yeah, the Cabin of the Woods is fantastic.
SPEAKER_06Oh no, dude.
SPEAKER_05Shut your hole. Shut your hole and put your thumb in it.
SPEAKER_06What the hell? We love your thumbs.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes.
SPEAKER_06As much as we love you. Oh, this is crazy.
SPEAKER_05Oh, I know. All of this, we've been working towards this since last January. So on the left hand side, we have Friday the 13th versus Mother. And then the and then the right hand side we have Sinister versus Cabinet Woods. So guys, let's do our left-handed battle first. Friday the 13th versus Mother.
SPEAKER_01Matt, talk to us. Loved Friday the 13th. Yes. Loved Friday the 13th. Um, I think probably one of the earlier movies that I've ever, horror movies that I've ever watched when I was a kid. So I I I loved it, I loved it. What movie impacted me the most? What movie did I say, oh my god, this is a great movie? It was Mother. Simply because I asked, I asked everyone, please, please go see this, go see this movie, watch this movie, and tell me what you think about it. I I loved Mother. It was it was phenomenal. The acting was great, the story was great, the symbolism behind it was great. So to me, hands down, it was mother.
SPEAKER_05Alright, so what did Matt gave Mother a 4.5, and then what'd you give Fred the 13th? 4.
SPEAKER_01So I don't think that's consistent. Yeah, I don't think anything out of me got a got a higher rating than a 4.5. Shelly's.
SPEAKER_06No, yeah, that was your highest rating.
SPEAKER_05Shelly was the only one, you know, with the balls enough to get some of the five. Yeah. So and once you gave a 4.9 and shipped it to a five once as well. Yeah. Um so Friday the 13th versus Mother. To me, we're a horror podcast. Which so writing uh writing on this one, I gave it to Friday the 13th, like I said. The uh the hook of the mother being the killer at the end is just genius, and the way that it was done was fantastic. Um, scarier again, like there was a lot of tension in mother, but it was just Friday the 13th was scarier for me, and then uh watch again. Actually, Friday the 13th across the board is getting all my X's. But Mother's a fantastic film, but I'm sorry, Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_01So so go ahead. So I'm sorry. I'm gonna ask you to reiterate. So why why did you why why do you think Friday the 13th was better than Mother?
SPEAKER_05Because the writing on it, I think The writing? The writing on it was better as far as a complete story, because as far as Mother goes, it's more of like a subliminal movie. There's a lot of like nods to something, but as far as like a story goes, it's not enough of a story for me. There's not a you know a beginning, a middle, a climax, and an end. There's just like it's it's all the subliminal messages, and people you know are are addressing each other as him, mother, all this stuff. So for me, there's a better story.
SPEAKER_01There's a total beginning, middle, and end in mother.
SPEAKER_05And mother, it's a it's about a cycle, yes.
SPEAKER_01Okay, it starts off. It starts. Go ahead, Shelley. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_06No, I was just gonna say we we can let you guys go back and forth. But yeah, that the writing aside, he said his second nod was scary. Friday the 13th is scarier to him, and then the tiebreaker is what would he watch again? And he's gonna watch Friday 13th again. That's why he picked it.
SPEAKER_05Across the board, it actually got all my exes. Okay.
SPEAKER_06So, but but still, like if you're you can argue the mother writing is better, but yeah, it's for me. For him, yeah, exactly.
SPEAKER_01So I want to I want to hear Jelly's before we're gonna be able to do it. Because I'm the tiebreaker.
SPEAKER_06Yes, I'm the tiebreaker here and um I'm gonna disappoint someone. I'm gonna disappoint someone here. When I sat down tonight and looked at the bracket. When I sat down tonight and looked at the bracket and I saw the left-hand side, I hate it that I let a movie get as far as it did.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_06And it's mother.
SPEAKER_02You son of a bitch.
SPEAKER_05I knew it. You said that earlier. I knew it.
SPEAKER_06Originally put mother down as the winner.
SPEAKER_05As a winner between Friday the 13th and however, I'm changing my mind. Ooh. So what made you change your mind?
SPEAKER_06Uh when I sat down tonight and looked at the bracket before we started, I was like, why is mother? Why am I letting it be in the top two? To me, it's not a horror movie. I it's just not a horror movie. That strongly disagrees. And I hate that I let it get this far.
SPEAKER_05Wow. It's hanging out.
SPEAKER_06And as soon as I sat down and looked and saw that in the top two tonight, I was like, man, how is that in my top two? And I looked to see how I could let it die earlier. It had an easy road. It had a very easy road to get where it is today. Other movies didn't have it as easy. You if you put mother up against the thing, it would have been the thing, hands down.
SPEAKER_01Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, I would have picked the thing over mother. Hands down, no question.
SPEAKER_05How do you feel, Matt?
SPEAKER_01About that? That, yeah. I have to I have to think because thing was so good.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So now, but of course, on the matchup we have. Yeah. It's Friday the 13th between Mother.
SPEAKER_04Mother, yeah.
SPEAKER_06And my my original draft, I gave it to Mother. I sat down tonight and I changed my mind. So so And I'm allowed to change my mind. No, we are.
SPEAKER_01We are. This is this is American. So so your statement of of horror movies. Like I said, some of these movies were not horror movies, but again, we're little bracket of horrors, they're in they're in the pile. So so to me, you kind of have to kick that out as far as one what some of these movies are as far as horror goes. Because I agree with you, mother's not if we went back and really analyzed what a horror movie is. I don't think mother's a horror movie either. But it's in there, and I feel like with with what you're saying, as far as the writing and the b beginning, middle, and end, there's absolutely from the beginning of mother, it's this calm sort of thing, it's it's the relationship between these two, and then all of a sudden it just grows into this thing, and then at the end, that's the symbolism there where the thing is now died for for everybody. So it's yeah, so it's there's a lot, there's a lot of story in there. No, then so to the argument of whether it's a horror movie or not, I have to for me, in my opinion, I put all that shit behind me because of other films we've had, right? Because it's here.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna give it, I'm gonna give you something else because I'm still the tiebreaker.
SPEAKER_07Yes.
SPEAKER_06When I look at we kick this way back to when we originally recorded and we had our likes and dislikes. Yeah. And my likes and dislikes were rape, right? Dislikes, and another dislike to me is realistic horror, like paranormal activity, anything that could happen in real life. And Jennifer Lawrence made me feel like she was really going through that. It was very realistic to me.
SPEAKER_05So good, so good.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna pick Friday the thirteenth because it's more something I enjoy as a movie because to me, like a serial killer and a kid, I don't know. I I that's what I enjoy more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I enjoy that more. So you just You just said that Friday so you your things you don't like are the rape in movies and you don't like movies that can be real.
SPEAKER_06Right.
SPEAKER_01Friday the 13th could absolutely 100% be real.
SPEAKER_06I'm still gonna give it to Friday the 13th. Trying, you're man. I know you're trying. I'm still I can't I don't think you can sway me. I just I don't I don't like that mother is would be in the top two. And I just don't think with the movies that we watch this season, I don't want Mother in the top two. I love you.
SPEAKER_01I still love you. No matter what.
SPEAKER_05Here's the thing the the writing for Mother was also great too. Like it was a struggle for me between the two, but as far as like what writing, you know, speaks to me more as far as like what I want to see in a horror film. Uh Friday the 13th is so much better for horror films. And even though you said we had films in here that weren't necessarily horror, like some of them had had shades of horror. Like The Innkeepers was like, you know, are you afraid of the dark? It was like beginner stage, like low-level stuff. But yeah.
SPEAKER_06So for me, arguably, all these movies are horror movies, and I agree on your argument. We can't use that as our reasoning. Yes. I I just can't give it to Mother. I don't know why. I just sat down tonight and I looked at it, I was like, I can't let it get together.
SPEAKER_02You just stick with what you feel. You just gotta stick with it, Shelly. So you get that there, you just say, I'm I'm going with it.
SPEAKER_05I'm calling it now. Looks like we're going Friday the 13th. Matt, we love you. Matt, we love you. Darren Arnofsky, what a great fucking film you made. Jennifer Lawrence, you fucking murdered the performance. Obviously, you had to take a break from acting for three years. Great film. Great film. But I'm sorry, you came up against Friday the 13th. Your favorite may still win.
SPEAKER_06You don't know that. Well, now well now we gotta argue the other side.
SPEAKER_05Well, that's right. Okay, guys. Okay.
SPEAKER_06We gotta argue the other side.
SPEAKER_05Let's go the right-hand side, guys. We have Sinister versus the Cabin in the Woods. My uh final on the right-hand side's already out, the thing. Right. We had the thing going all the way. So let's go.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna kick this off because I'm gonna make Matt one happy man because his daddy issues are over.
SPEAKER_07Okay.
SPEAKER_06I'm gonna give it to Cabin in the Woods. These were both fives for me this season. I know. Sinister and Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_05I'm figuring it out now.
SPEAKER_06If I when I put the two up against each other, Cabin in the Woods just hit far more. It was just so like to me, it was something that never I'd never seen before. I love the horror comedy. I love the makeup. You know, Sinister had the eight millimeter films, which was unique, and Bagul was unique. But I mean, so they're both to me, they were fives. Both these movies were fives to me. So how do I how do I even pick? But I had to give it to Cabin in the Woods. Matt.
SPEAKER_01Well, between Sinister and No, you didn't. I'm still, I'm still, I'm still heartbroken. I just want you to know.
SPEAKER_05You have to move on.
SPEAKER_01Every time I talk, I'm gonna just let you remind you that I'm heartbroken. So yeah, between sinister, and I I I mean I kind of forgot some of the stuff that you were just saying there. Yeah, absolutely. The five five millimeter film eight millimeter, seven millimeter, twenty, whatever the hell it was. Those those are probably the coolest part of the whole freaking movie, right? So original, right? So um, and the cabin in the woods, again, I I I walked away from that movie just just feeling that was a pretty fucking cool movie. Like just everything. I wish that Cabin in the Woods would have done like a sequel or something or built off of some of these other like monsters that were in it. Sinister, no, I don't care. You know, you don't need to make a sequel of that. There's a Sinister 2. Is there really guess what it won't be watching? No, I'm just kidding. It wasn't that bad. I'm I'm I'm being a dick. Yeah, yeah. It wasn't that bad. I'd watch it. Yeah, it's a good it is a good movie. Cabin in the Woods was uh was just phenomenal. I was gonna say something, but I forgot, but I'm just gonna get to the point. Uh my my choice was uh Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_05Okay. Um, so Derek's doing this on the fly. Yeah, I'm doing this on the fly because I had the thing going to the final, and I'm gonna I had the thing win winning this whole fucking thing, anyways. So um Womp Womp. I know life happens. So Sinister versus Cabin in the Woods. Which one has a better story? I'm sorry. The the writing on Cabin of the Woods is phenomenal. I've said it before, so Cabin's winning it there. Scarier, I'm saying Sinister, so it's coming down to which one do I want to watch again? Oh shit.
SPEAKER_06I feel like which one do you own on DVD?
SPEAKER_05Which one? That is a fantastic fucking point. I'm just saying. And which one have I watched more? Uh I gotta give it to the cabin. The cabin's moving forward. Yeah, Sinister's great. Like I said, one of the scariest films we've watched, and scientifically one of the scariest films ever made, according to some dumb Forbes thing. But anyways, so the cabin's moving on against Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_06Now, I'm gonna I'm gonna I I can't stroke your ego at all, Matt. I'm so sorry. One of our viewers did send in their bracket and it got broken pretty easy early on compared to what we've picked.
SPEAKER_07Oh no.
SPEAKER_06Um they they picked Terrifier in that battle. Oh um, they actually picked the visitor over Deborah Logan. Oh they picked really yeah.
SPEAKER_05Who who's the it's Brian M.
SPEAKER_06Oh Brian M. Brian M, yep. So then this is Brian's. Uh he then also picked City of the Dead over Mother. So that made his final four on the left hand side very different from what we had. Interesting. He went Friday versus City of the Dead and picks Friday in the end. Same with the right-hand stand. He picked Ginger Snaps over High Tension. Oh wow. He picked The Thing over Cabin. So he was there with a boy. Uh and then he picked uh obviously In over Thirst. So he had um Ginger Snaps versus the Thing in their final two and had the thing as the winner. So his final two matchup was Friday the 13th versus the thing, which actually is not a bad that's that was mine. So yeah, unfortunately, that's not our final two. We have Friday the 13th versus Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_01I'm surprised Ginger Snaps got that far.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I think it beat it beat out high tension, yeah. Good movie. It is great, yeah. Brian, thanks so much for uh filling out and sharing that with us. It's awesome.
SPEAKER_06And then pretty sure Jeremy W put that he thought Sinister was gonna be the overall winner.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Jeremy called Sinister.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it got pretty far, but we've we've got it out at this point.
SPEAKER_05So uh our our old faithful Lisa now R, she uh she shared with me that she had the cabin in the woods at the end. So she's still in the battle.
SPEAKER_06All right.
SPEAKER_05Alright, guys, so let's do this Friday the 13th against the Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_06You didn't know this was gonna be the final bottle.
SPEAKER_05No, because I had I had the thing and Friday the 13th on mine, and um she's all right. So I'm gonna I'm gonna figure mine out on the fly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Shelly, did yours did yours work out the way you wanted it to?
SPEAKER_06Uh besides mother.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, you had mother. Well you switched mother, right? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, so I guess I have another matchup, but uh, you know, honestly, I don't think it mattered what was on the left-hand side for me, to be fair. Right. Um, I just didn't want mother getting as far as it did, fortunately. Um so yeah, I ultimately picked between if I still so you know, put Friday the 13th versus Cabin in the Woods. I, you know, again, two great movies from different errors, so it's hard to kind of compare some of their things because it was a different time. Acting changed through the decades. But in the end, even looking at the two, I thought the writing, the makeup, um, I like the comedy horror genre more than slasher. I'm I'm gonna still give it to Cabin in the Woods.
SPEAKER_01Nice, solid, solid matchup. Derek, I feel like you have a little bit more thinking to do, so I think I'm gonna go next. Uh yeah. So I I mean my matchup did I did not uh my uh bracket did not fall the way I wanted it to fall.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_01So uh uh what I had pinned up, I'll just tell you what I had pinned up. I had uh mother and the cabin pinned up against each other. What pulled out for me was mother. And the reason I You had mother winning? I had mother winning. And the reason I said that, the reason I say that, I'm not gonna focus on mother. We know we've already gone over that. We got this.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, we know how you feel.
SPEAKER_01We got this. The reason why I picked mother overall this whole season is simply because it impacted me so much that I wanted other people to watch it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And nobody else watched it, but I was like, guys, you gotta watch this movie, watch this movie. And I wanted them to tell me what they thought of the movie because of because there was such a difference of uh you know uh uh reviews and opinions on the movie. Some people loved it and some people hated it. So I just wanted to see what what everybody's uh opinions were, and uh so that was that was mine. But now going to what it is Friday the 13th or the cabin. I need to do a little bit of thinking. I'm gonna walk my walk myself through it a little bit. Yeah. So I think uh cat uh Friday the 13th was a was a great movie, a great beginning of like what you said, uh a whole series of movies for the uh Friday the 13th franchise. I love that I love the way that the story went, how it became the it was the mother, she was out there killing everybody. Um great slasher movie. Uh Cabin and Woods hit everything for me with comedy. Um not saying that Friday the 13th there weren't some funny parts in there too.
SPEAKER_06Not on purpose. Yeah, I was gonna say not on purpose.
SPEAKER_01I think it's the acting and stuff. So how about that grass? Yeah, the grass. Yeah, that's right. But um, so yeah, and uh uh cabin, uh it's a it's it's a different time in itself. Friday the 13th was an older movie. Uh blah blah blah. I get it. I'm talking a lot. Cabin in the woods is is my winner on on on uh on that.
SPEAKER_05So we got two cabins. God, this so this one's on the fly for me. I did not have a cabin making it to the end, but uh seriously, both films fantastic writing. Uh both films equally scary. They're both uh they're both neck and neck, and which one would I rather watch again? I mean I own cab I own Friday the 13th on DVD, so shit. Um this is Fine Margins again, and I'm I I'm gonna concede to the majority because even if I went Friday the 13th, I I don't have enough of a battle of for Friday the 13th in me to fight you guys on the Cabin in the Woods Um because I could go that way too. So um I'm going let's go with the Cabin in the Woods unanimous decision. There it is. And what what a great um you know, we talked about Tucker and Dale versus Evil, you know, and Shawn of the Dead, but seriously, the Cabin in the Woods is up there. Like the writing is phenomenal. The funny parts are just as so the funny and scary is equal in this film. The scary is is top notch, the funny is top notch. You don't get that even in a lot of like horror comedies. Because like in Sean of the Dead, it's more goofy than it is scary. Yeah, and it's the same thing with Tucker Dale, it's more goofy than scary. Like, what what other film are you gonna get that's got the scary that's equaling the goofy? So jump scares, yeah. Yeah, so uh even if I was gonna battle for Friday the 13th, like I said, it's it's not enough for it. The Cabin in the Woods. You have a winner. Yeah, we do. Our Victor.
SPEAKER_06I don't think anyone expected this except me.
SPEAKER_05No, no, no. Lisa, Lisa also said the cabin in the woods. Is that was you had mother at the end. Settle down. No, I had cabin in the woods as the final winner.
SPEAKER_01No, no, no, but she changed mother.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, like I said, it didn't matter what happened on my left-hand side.
SPEAKER_06I'm pretty sure the right can win.
SPEAKER_05Full disclosure, Matt, in the final you had okay, so you Matt had mother winning it, I had the thing winning it, and Shelly. What do I win? Uh two brothers for life. I don't want brothers. Yeah, congratulations, the Cabin in the Woods. Uh, you have won the Little Bracket of Horrors Deat Match 2022. Josh Sweden and Drew Goodard, you guys, you you made a masterpiece. You fucking murdered it. So that concludes our 2022 season. Anyone who has listened or commented or been a part of this, we appreciate anything. If you've given us a like on on uh Apple Podcasts or Spotify, if you followed uh the listens, we we highly appreciate it. I did want to, real quick before this episode ends, I did want to give a couple shout-outs to people who have helped us. Uh, first and foremost, we want to thank Jamie F. Uh, he actually helped out on the Mandy episode, um, but he was a big part of helping us get this off the ground because him and Matt had a podcast beforehand, and he was huge in helping me figure all this stuff out. So, Jamie F, big shout out to you. Thank you so much. The podcast loves you. And then obviously, Lisa C, who is now Lisa R, she filled in for the Ginger Snaps episode. And she has been a constant contributor. She filled out a bracket, shared it with us. She's always commenting, giving us her opinions for voices, but from beyond. Luckily, she is a close friend of Shelly's, and she's now a close friend of the podcast. Absolutely. We love Lisa R to death. That's right. Next up, I wanted to thank John L. Uh, he's actually with uh Bad Moon FX, and they're a costume production company who's based locally for us in like the Tampa area. But he helped out with uh the Cabin in the Woods episode when Matt was out. And John, you know, congratulations, John. The the the film that you were did the podcast with won. So yeah, thought of being John. Uh but John, uh you you had a bottomless pit of knowledge and your opinions were were fantastic. You contributed so much to the episode and brought a really smart perspective to it. And I appreciated it. We all appreciated it, so thank you so much. But lastly, we gotta give it out to Chopper.
SPEAKER_06Absolutely.
SPEAKER_05So Chopper is a tattoo artist in the Tampa area. He helped us and designed our logo. And if you anyone would like to follow him, he's on Instagram at chopper underscore FTW. And there's our thanks. Chopper, you're the man. Thank you so much for creating our awesome design. If we have probably the coolest podcast design, I'm just putting it out there. It's pretty awesome. It's pretty badass.
SPEAKER_06And just to kind of piggyback on that a little bit, thank you to all our voices from beyond the season. As always, um, we we thank your input and we can't do this show without our listeners. So we appreciate that. Um, remember, even in our hiatus, because we'll probably take a little break off until next season.
SPEAKER_07Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Uh so as always, you can follow us on our socials at Little Bracket of Horrors on Instagram and under our name via Facebook. So check us out, follow along. Hopefully, we'll have some fun things in the off season. Um, but that's it for season one of Little Bracket of Horrors.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we'll probably uh we'll be away a little bit for December. We might we might figure something out, but just like Shelly said, pay attention to the socials if uh if we put anything out or decide to do some some sort of Christmas episode or whatever, we'll be sure to put it up there. And uh yeah, Matt, you want to you got any parting words? We we said some stuff out.
SPEAKER_01I uh like everybody said, I thank everybody that was involved that stepped in and uh helped me and Shelly when when we were out at different times. I know Derek has not missed us. Missed an episode, yeah. And also, you know, I want to uh and I'm sure Shelly feels the same too. I want to thank Derek so much for uh spending plenty of hours editing all the bullshit that we do in between this uh it's mostly me. It's mostly me. Well, it's mostly me. It's it's me as well. But yeah, but we just want to thank you and uh we thank the fans and our family.
SPEAKER_06Family, yes, yes, because this takes away like we're I know you guys got kids and wives, you know. I just have a sister at home, but they we couldn't do it without them letting us have this time.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, absolutely. So we love uh we love our family, we love you guys, and uh we appreciate everything that you've uh done for us. So yeah.
SPEAKER_05Awesome. So I'm I'm gonna reciprocate a little bit. Thank you so much, Matt and Shelly. And I looked at Shelly when I said Matt. Sorry. Matt when I said Shelly. So but seriously, uh this was just a labor of love. I know I put a lot of like work into this, but this is just this is the coolest thing. We get to create something and like people listen to it. This is awesome. So before I get all teary-dyed and and uh my voice cracks, thank everyone out there again. Again, pay attention to the socials. And uh I'm Derek.
SPEAKER_06I'm Shelly.
SPEAKER_05And I'm Matt. And we will catch you on the other side.
SPEAKER_01Believed at believe or believe? Believe, but it's jumbled together. Bleedad. All right, we're recording.
SPEAKER_06Whenever you guys are I was gonna go ahead and do a social media post, but I was trying to find like a cool filter.
SPEAKER_05One of the coolest filters.
SPEAKER_01Scary. Oh my god, this is so stupid, itchy. I still I feel like I sound weird, but it it's whatever. I'll work through it.
SPEAKER_06Cute and scary. Maybe you should use it. Are we cute and scary?
SPEAKER_05Cute and scary? Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_06Oh, no, I don't like it.
SPEAKER_01I think I saw it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's not good.
SPEAKER_05I only use uh cutie patootie filters.
SPEAKER_06But are you? Oh that was strong.
SPEAKER_05You, you, you don't take much.
SPEAKER_01I'm a simple guy. Yep. Simple guy. I'm a simple man. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06I don't work tomorrow, so good for you.
SPEAKER_01I do, but let's be real. Do I really? No. I don't need to be real.
SPEAKER_06Don't say that too loud. I don't need to be real. I just need to be. That's a social media thing.
SPEAKER_01Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_06You didn't know it, but you were doing that. Or we'll just do this one. All right, guys. Coming to you live from podcast headquarters. We're about to record our bracket episode. I see a bracket right there.
SPEAKER_05Cover it up. Oh god, thank you.
SPEAKER_06Are we ready? Our fearless leader.
SPEAKER_05Let's do this.
SPEAKER_06All right. Coming to you Wednesday, November 23rd.
SPEAKER_04Bye.
SPEAKER_06Ya.
SPEAKER_01Excellent.
SPEAKER_05I'm glad I took a shower for that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I didn't realize that.
SPEAKER_01I got a shower really early. Didn't it? Like, I got up early. I was up by like 5 30 or 6 o'clock.
SPEAKER_05I can tell you I was at Aldi at 9 a.m. Yeah, that's 9-10 a.m.
SPEAKER_01Look at you. You're a dad.
SPEAKER_05I was beating the church crowd. You're a dad. I am. You called you. Wait, no, never mind. I got a call from a guy at work. Yeah, that wasn't me. Yeah, it wasn't you. You're not a guy from work.
SPEAKER_01No, I'm not. No. Nope. No, I got I got up. I got up early. Don't I've got fucking cat hair in my mouth.
SPEAKER_02What?
SPEAKER_01I have to. You're gonna stop mouth kissing. Yeah, you can't not look your cat. Have you seen my cats? Pretty attractive. Pretty attractive. Good looking. I shouldn't say that. Oh god. I will not say that. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_06Derek, don't feel like you have to drink that.
SPEAKER_05No, bourbon almost came out of my nose.
SPEAKER_01Well, I can now die and go to heaven? Is that what you're gonna say?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, sure. Oh my gosh. Talking about molesting your cat in terrible ways. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Poor cat.
SPEAKER_06Uploading. Alright.
SPEAKER_01Meow meows is what I call them.
SPEAKER_02Meow meow. Meow meow. Meow meows, daddy's home.
SPEAKER_05Are you five years old? Yep. Calling your cat meow meow.
SPEAKER_02Meow meows, daddy's home.
SPEAKER_05Oh god.
SPEAKER_04Oh, my eyes are still watering.
SPEAKER_01And they hiss when I come in the room and run away.
SPEAKER_04Just like that?
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01And then that's me running away?
SPEAKER_05Like Jeremy's vampire noises. That's an inside family joke that no one else is ever gonna get. Basically. Jeremy still does that. The thing that I hate about my mic is that I gotta be up on it, and it's just like awkward because like I need a table that's like this high. You know what I mean? Oh I'm hunched over like this. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01You know what you need? Get yourself a couple books.
SPEAKER_05Shit. Dictionary. Talking about books. You want a book? Actually, yeah, go grab me a couple.
SPEAKER_01Wait, Mother Goose?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, Mother Goose and Field Guide to Dinosaurs.
SPEAKER_02Excellent reflections.
SPEAKER_01You might need more than that.
SPEAKER_02This is from our mommy. Mother Goose. From your mommy.
SPEAKER_05Oh, that is from your mommy. Mi madre.
SPEAKER_01Mi madre.
SPEAKER_05But it's got an Ian sticker on it.
SPEAKER_01Of course, because it's for Ian. Yeah, nowadays. Not for you.
SPEAKER_05I mean, no.
SPEAKER_01Do you need a do you need a bigger book too? Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Give me more? Give me the visual dictionary of uh Darth Vader. You almost got it. Use your hand. Use your hand that's got a thumb.
SPEAKER_01Shelly, what does that normally mean? Somebody stole a book, right? This is probably from SkyCrest.
SPEAKER_05They don't need it. They don't need it anymore. Clearly. Maybe this will work. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Put your mic up a bit.
SPEAKER_05There you go. I might have slobbered on the mic a little bit. It's all good. So what it's for. Slobber and the colour.
SPEAKER_06This is the cover.
SPEAKER_07This is my cover.
SPEAKER_05It's a yeah, it's a mic condom.
SPEAKER_01It's it's um, yes.
SPEAKER_06Do you use it?
SPEAKER_01I've got plenty of them.
SPEAKER_06Me and Matt just make out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It's all good. Yeah. We don't like actually like connect, but somehow we make out. I like it.
SPEAKER_06I like the mic during podcast recordings. He looks at when he seems with his video.
SPEAKER_01Basically, we're married. Basically. Basically.
SPEAKER_06It's a circle. Circle eyes. And it moves us out.
SPEAKER_01Are we gonna do this at all time? I don't think we should.
SPEAKER_05Our whole pack that we just do this the whole time. Listen, I I we got six minutes of material so far. Seven minutes of material so far. I loved it.
SPEAKER_01What are we vibrating on?
SPEAKER_06I don't know. Is that me? Did I do that?
SPEAKER_01Is that you?
SPEAKER_06Did I do that?
SPEAKER_01What is that? Is that my tummy? Everyone be quiet. Stop moving. Okay. Shall I touch on that? I gotta tell you that. I got it. You can take it off if you need to. That's great. That's what he said. Take it off. If you need to. Come on, Derek. You know the song.
SPEAKER_04He says shabba.
SPEAKER_05Take it off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_05So what we're gonna do. Yeah, ding, ding, ding. Let's get ready to rumble.
SPEAKER_04I can't I I don't like that I'm doing this by myself.
SPEAKER_06Y'all ready for this?
SPEAKER_04Y'all ready for that? I'm sorry. Bere you under the water?
SPEAKER_06Where were you? B B, you're aggressive.
SPEAKER_01You fell in the water. Obviously. To the left, to the left, to the right. Oh, wait. I'm still going to the left. Oh, still to the left. I don't know how to dance, though. I don't either. Obviously, I don't know the song either.

SPEAKER_06I thought I put that bitch on fiber.
SPEAKER_05So I watched. Did you say Uncut Jim's? Was that the visitor episode too? Maybe. Possibly. Right.
SPEAKER_01We were off the rails real quick. While you're doing that, I'm gonna I'm gonna open this cider. Good job, Lucio. It's a blackberry wild.
SPEAKER_06Getting wild.
SPEAKER_01I'm not a I'm not a cider guy, but I'll do one.
SPEAKER_06That's gonna be sweet.
SPEAKER_01It's my cider.
SPEAKER_05Actually, wait, did you bring a cider when we watched the cabin in the woods? Yeah. Oh my god. That might be real sweet from Shiloh. Hell yeah, buddy. Drink it up.
SPEAKER_04Don't be a wussy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, be a wussy.
SPEAKER_04Drink your cider.
SPEAKER_01Don't be a wuss drinking your cider. It's a man's drink right there.
SPEAKER_06Empty's bathroom.
SPEAKER_01Ten foreskin.
SPEAKER_04You're a weirdo. You're a weirdo. Get your foot off my shit. Shut the fuck up.

Did you ever see Return of the Living Dead? Uh-uh. Oh. Um so the co-writer from Night of the Living Dead, John Russo, uh, he went on to do that remake. And it wasn't a remake, but offshoot.

SPEAKER_05Word. You say pissing like a racehorse? Yep. Hell yeah. All right. Healthy.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. How does a racehorse piss? It goes and it pisses all over the ground. He says, I'm a horse. I'm a horse. And I'm racing. And I'm peeing. At the same time.
SPEAKER_05Hi, you son of a bitch. I'm cutting your fingers off. Sorry. The rest of your fingers, not just your half thumb.
