Welcome to this little bracket of cards.
SPEAKER_01That was terrible. I know. You have created a monster and it will destroy you.
SPEAKER_02Welcome back, everyone. I'm Derek, and today I have two special guests with us, Roger R and Lisa R. Welcome to the podcast, Yins. Welcome. Thank you, Derek. Yeah, Roger. Welcome to our house again. Again. For second straight episode. Yeah, second straight episode. Lisa, what up?
SPEAKER_04Hello. Mr.
SPEAKER_02Guest number two. But number one in our hearts. Yes. But yeah, welcome to the podcast, you guys. We've been here for a little bit. We've been talking a ton of nonsense before we actually kick this episode off.
SPEAKER_05It's not true. We're talking about golf.
SPEAKER_02And you will only hear one minute. We're talking about Jared Leto a little bit. It was there's a lot going on. But today we're here because we have finally landed on Deathgasm.
SPEAKER_03Years in the making.
SPEAKER_02Years in the making, exactly. But uh yeah, before we kick off into Deathgasm, let's play a little catch-up. You guys watch anything scary or anything scary happen to you guys lately?
SPEAKER_03Well, this morning we went to the movies. Okay. So Predator Badlands. Alright. Horror, but but it was it was a monster movie. Yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. About Predator. Yeah, it's about a Predator. We I really, really loved I well, I loved it. I gave it four and a half stars. Four and a half?
SPEAKER_02Did you put it on your letterbox yet?
SPEAKER_03I did. Good boy.
SPEAKER_02You're much you're much more on top of it than I am.
SPEAKER_03I almost dethroned Predator 1 for me. It was that good. The OG? The OG. I put a number two best predator movie. Okay. The one that came out a couple years ago was it Prey? Prey. Prey was same. That looks super cool.
SPEAKER_05That was a good one.
SPEAKER_03Same director, same writer. Okay. And remember, Parade was supposed to go to Thalers, but then COVID came and and they decided to do it on Disney Plus. Well, not Disney Plus Hulu. But uh yeah, he wrote this and uh directed, and it was awesome.
SPEAKER_02So you guys had a little morning date to the theaters. That's fun. Lisa, how'd you feel about it?
SPEAKER_05I'm not a huge fan of the Predator movies, but I actually enjoyed this one. I gave it a three. They did kind of give the Predator some human qualities and some feelings and emotions, which I kind of appreciated. It was a different take and a little bit of background story. So I like that. Um I still put Prey as you know top over this one.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_05But overall, solid movie. Recommend. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's pure action. Um pure action. This one, yeah. It's all it doesn't starts and doesn't stop. I I was never bored at all. Prey's slow, but it's good. Really good too.
SPEAKER_02It's from the little bit that I like when I saw the trailer for Prey, it looked atmospheric. It looked uh it looked like a beautifully shot movie. I was intrigued, but the podcast was going pretty strong, starting off, and I was just I was consuming other stuff, and it's just been it's hard to watch anything else, let alone all these horror films that I typically try to devour. So uh I'll get to them eventually.
SPEAKER_05I will add though, because you asked, something scary has happened. I mean, I've been crazy busy with work, but uh boss put in his two weeks' notice, so work's been scary.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's nothing there's nothing like some turmoil in the chain of command.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. Right before the holidays, too. So like life's been interesting in the Russell household.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. Roger, how's your job? My job's good. All right. The end. The end. Exclamation point. Um let's see. This uh previous weekend, uh, we went to it was a tad scary. We went to the reincarnated warp tour. Uh, me, Shelly, my wonderful wife Carrie, and Shelly's sister Sherry. We went uh we got a hotel and we went to the two it's a two-day festival now. Uh Roger or Lisa, did you guys ever go to the original warp tours at all? No. No. So it was a traveling show. It was all through the summer. So um now it's a two-day festival named Just Unremote Random Places. And it was in warp, it was in Orlando at uh Camping World Stadium. I got to see a lot of recent bands that uh I haven't been able to go out to like actual shows and see yet. So that was a lot of fun. I got to see uh Scal. Um Angel Dust was amazing. Uh there's a band called Big Ass Truck, and they have a song that's called Big Ass Beer. Awesome. They're so amazing. They're so amazing. But uh yeah, I just got to see a ton of bands. And to cap it off on Sunday night, our second night there, Carrie and I, when we were in our 20s, we we were going to shows like every other weekend when we lived up in Pennsylvania, and we saw we were huge fans of Comeback Kid when they were just coming up, and Carrie and I got to see Comeback Kid, and we got to scream and shout words that we shouted and screamed when we were in our 20s. And nice. It was a nice moment. Yes, it was a nice moment and a beautiful way to to close out the weekend for us. So that was a blast. Uh, but it was just scary because there was a ton of people there.
SPEAKER_05So yeah, my anxiety wouldn't so oh my gosh. So fun fact, Lisa's not a concert person. I mean, I'll go if like you need a filler, but somebody's like, Yeah, let's go see this person in concert. I'm like, I'm good. I hear you. I have a C D for those who don't know. That's a compact disc.
SPEAKER_02I have become much more of a homebody. Yeah, the older that I've become. I like a lot of the bands that I saw at Warp Tour, they've they've been touring, and I could have gone to like weeknight shows, but those are fucking tough to go to. When you have a kid that needs to be in practices, and then you're trying to get to bed at a reasonable time, it's like impossible to go to shows and stuff. So um the only hashtag dad life. Dad life, that's right. But Carrie and I did get to go uh like three weeks back, we got to see AFI because AFI just put out an album, and Carrie and I are old AFI heads, and uh it was so fucking awesome. They played so many old songs, they played everything all the way back from uh their first two full lengths, which we're very proud of, and uh answer that and stay fashionable. And they they played stuff off of Sing the Sorrow, but it was just it was an amazing uh show, and they played two they played two songs off the recent album, and uh Carrie and I were just excited because we got to hear Davy say holy vision holy vision dude anyways. Anyone who uh likes AFI, hopefully you know that part, but yeah, so we're talking music, but um oh yeah, I I did watch the new Frankenstein on I haven't seen it yet.
SPEAKER_05No spoilers, no spoilers.
SPEAKER_02Zero spoilers. I fucking loved it. I thought it was awesome.
SPEAKER_03Gilmo del Toro.
SPEAKER_02Great, great monster movie. I don't want to say much at all, but I really enjoyed it. I think you'll enjoy it too. Fucking everyone, everyone kills. I mean, you have Mia Goth, uh, you have who was the guy Nicholas Salty.
SPEAKER_05He was in the kissing booth, that's all I know. And euphoria.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but you have um Frankenstein, Jacob Lordy.
SPEAKER_05That that guy, Jacob, that's yeah, Jacob Lordy. Where did I get Nathan from? Oh my gosh. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, um, I s everyone was so amazing in it. Uh it looks beautiful. It's a long, it's like it's two hours, 40 minutes, something like that. It's a long runtime. But for me, like if you're if you have a long movie like that, if you have like a rhythm to it and beats where it like it when you think you're thinking you're about to fall out, like something happens. Like they did a good job of keeping you in the movie and not feeling the runtime.
SPEAKER_05So I'll appreciate that.
SPEAKER_02It's on Netflix.
SPEAKER_05We actually started watching Welcome to Dairy. Yes. I was about to mention it.
SPEAKER_02Are you we're current.
SPEAKER_05We're waiting for we're waiting for the episode tonight. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What about you? We're only on the second. We still need to see the third. So let's ruin the next two episodes for Derek.
SPEAKER_05All right, so this happens.
SPEAKER_02That first the first episode I was like, and then the ending, I was like, I was like, holy shit!
SPEAKER_03Where do we go from here?
SPEAKER_02I know. I was like, what's gonna happen? It the way the first episode ended, I was like, oh, we're we're in, you know?
SPEAKER_03So and just gets better and better the next uh episodes three and four. I know you get into the real backstory of everything.
SPEAKER_02There was some stuff going on in the first episode. I was like, the hell? I know this is like the prequel to like everything. I was like, what the fuck is going on? But then that that end part, I was like, so much stuff is going on.
SPEAKER_05I'm trying to be very ambiguous about the things that Roger was making fun of me because we were all the couch and I was just leaning back, and then by the end of the episode, I was like on the edge of the couch like this.
SPEAKER_03Lisa's making a wide open expression on her face if you can't hear it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Oh that's that's a sound.
SPEAKER_05And then I looked at him and he's like laughing. I'm like, what the fuck did we just do?
SPEAKER_03I know. It's crazy. It's two total of three seasons that they're gonna do. Three seasons of Welcome to Dairy? It's gonna take each season's gonna take place in a different time period.
SPEAKER_02Oh, cool.
SPEAKER_03So it's like I'll wrap up this and it'll go to a whole different story. Okay, season two, and then again for three. Nice.
SPEAKER_02Alright, well, I'll have to catch up to it. But uh yeah, Welcome to Dairy's been really good. Yeah, yeah. Good, good current series for people to check out. Take it from us. Right? Yeah, take it from us. When you said ketchup, I got a little scared. Oh. I thought you were gonna thought I was gonna lose my cool and yell it yell at away from it.
SPEAKER_05Slam the ketchup bottle on the table. Ketchup, I need it now.
SPEAKER_02Yes, sir, sir.
SPEAKER_03I'll be right. I'll get it for you.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's funny. So I always get hot dogs when I play golf, and we stopped halfway through, quickly grabbed hot dogs, and the guys were putting condiments on it, and they grabbed the ketchup bottle, and I was like, I'm just grabbing packets, I don't have time for this. So I was my buddy was driving the cart and I was squeezing ketchup onto a hot dog while we were driving through the pathway to the next hole.
SPEAKER_05So I'm interested. Why when you play golf do you always have to get a hot dog?
SPEAKER_02It's just part of the culture. I feel like you you hit your front nine and you reward yourself with what is what is called a glizzy.
SPEAKER_05Oh, excuse me. A glizzy.
SPEAKER_02A glizzy. You get yourself a glizzy after the front nine, you chow it down in the most reckless manner, and then you hurry hurry and get to the next tee because you don't want to hold up everybody. Just one bite, I bet you can take that thing. The ones today were really good. The ones today, they're like crunchy. Yeah, it's snap. I was like, hello.
SPEAKER_04What the hell are you thinking?
SPEAKER_03No, I'm thinking like crunchy, like like old.
SPEAKER_04No, no, the skin. It has this snap.
SPEAKER_03Like it, like, like from the grill. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it was it was really good. Shout out to uh the Nicholas course at Reunion Resort. Their hot dogs are good. If anyone wants to go there, go get a good hot dog. It's a glizzy. Yeah, glizzy. Damn it. We're at 25 minutes on Santa.
SPEAKER_04We haven't even talked about it.
SPEAKER_02We're talking about hot dogs. This episode is is gonna be a ridiculous one.
SPEAKER_03Plug in like a commercial for your golf course now. Just play it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02All right, let's talk about Deathgasm, right? Yeah, finally, it's been years. Yes. Um, first section is Dig Up the Bones. And that's where I introduced the movie and gave a brief summary. Deathgasm is a New Zealand comedy, horror, supernatural, dark fantasy film. That's a lot of different genres that it's part of, but uh released on October 2nd, 2015. Uh, directed and written by Jason Lee Houghton. Other credits include The Light Harvester, Guns Akimbo, and the upcoming Deathgasm 2, Gormageddon. Uh some of the music is composed by Mike Newport. Other credits include Pirates of the Caribbean, Dead Man Tell No Tales, Nine Episodes of Altered Carbon, and The Mega Time Squad, Cinematography by Simon Rabbe, other credits include Mortal Engines, District 9, and Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, Special Effects, Makeup by Sarah Alfred, other credits include The Cure, Project Eden, and Little Apocalypse TV series. Getting to our cast, we have Milo Cawthorne as Brody. Other credits include Wolfman, Gunsakimbo, and Deathgasm 2, Gormageddon. Jay uh James Joshua Blake as Zach. Other credits include Hot Rod. No, Hot Rob.
SPEAKER_07I'm gonna do that again.
SPEAKER_02You have the hot dog on your mind, Derek? I do. Oh man, I my breath smells like hot dog and sprite. You asked me earlier when I was like, this mic smells like like me.
SPEAKER_05Yum.
SPEAKER_02Alright, so our next person is James Joshua Blake as Zach. Other credits include Hot Rob, Top of the Lake, and Dangerous Game. And then there's Kimberly Crossman as Medina. Other credits include Stream, A Beginner's Guide to Snuff, and and I just rolled through that one. It's a movie. It's got it's on IBD. And she played the red Samurai Ranger and Power Rangers Samurai. Did you watch those came out later? I think those are.
SPEAKER_03I've already stopped watching. Yes. I got I got over the age of uh 12. Yeah. You grew out of your Power Rangers.
SPEAKER_05So I don't mean to interrupt, dig up the bones, but on Hulu they have like this documentary called like Dark Tales of Hollywood or whatever. And there's a segment on Power Rangers, and I bring this up because you guys talked about that last time. And they do an episode on Power Rangers, and those fucking actors are dark. They've murdered people. They're they're Power Rangers sitting in jail right now. They're druggies. Like suicide.
SPEAKER_02Holy shit. Well, yeah, yeah. The original Pink Ranger, uh something Johnson Amy Joe Johnson is just oh, she was such a crush for me when I was.
SPEAKER_05Calm down, Derek.
SPEAKER_02I am allowed. Derek, you look a little bit safe place. Look at his gizzy. These are tight shorts. It's not what you think. Oh, okay. But yeah, Pink Ranger. I had a huge crush on her. I think she's fine. I've seen her at conventions and stuff.
SPEAKER_05She's yeah, I think she came out okay, but like it was. I was sitting here, he was at bowling one night. I threw it on. I was like, holy shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05It was bananas. B-A-N-N-N-S.
SPEAKER_02Bunge. Shit was bananas.
SPEAKER_05Alright, sorry. Please continue.
SPEAKER_02All right. Next up we have Sam Berkeley as Dion. Other credits include the TV series Go Girls, Jake, and Deathgasm 2, Garmaged and there we go, Roger. And then we have Daniel Cresswell as Giles. Other credits include Radio Parts, the new Legends of Monkey, and 1480 Radio Pirates. And rounding out our notable cast is Steven Ur as Ricky Daggers. Other credits include TV series like Xena Warrior Princess and Hercules, as well as Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit films, but his most important role to us would be Howard from the 2022 film X. He played the old man, Howard. Well shit indeed. What a segment. What a segment. We're not done yet, alright? Settle. We got much more to go. We're not done digging up bones. We're halfway there. Alright. Production companies, MPI Media Group, New Zealand Film Commission, and Timpson Films. Distributed by Dark Sky Films. Sequels, prequels. As I've discussed, there's a sequel. Do you guys want to guess what it's called? Defgasm 2.
SPEAKER_05Electric Boogaloo.
SPEAKER_02Wrong.
SPEAKER_03Oh. Lisa Roger. Take a guess. For Defgasm 2? Yeah. Gorman Gooddon.
SPEAKER_02Hell yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_03You said it already.
SPEAKER_02I know I know. That's the joke.
SPEAKER_03Oh, okay. All right. The wheels are off. So good. It's doing this festival run right now, I believe.
SPEAKER_02Yes. That's that's exactly what it's like.
SPEAKER_05You said it was getting good ratings too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, people are enjoying it. We were talking about uh Dead Meat. The guy who does the Dead Meat podcast, he was he just did a review of not a review, but a watch-along of him watching the trailer for it. So I know it's it's like out there. It's just I don't I don't know if it's got distribution yet, but it's ready to go. It's hitting a fest. So uh budget for this, I could not find a concrete number, but Jason Lee Hought was awarded $200,000 after he won the Make My Horror Movie contest. So at least $200,000 to make this.
SPEAKER_03I think it was the New Zealand Film Commission gave him the rest of the funding.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, most likely. Yeah. I think that that's fucking amazing. Like I know Canada does that and like Australia and New Zealand.
SPEAKER_03A lot of countries that don't have the studio systems like we do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But they have like so you can make movies. They have like grants for these people who work in arts to like get their projects out there. I think it's fucking awesome.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, US sucks.
SPEAKER_02I don't know. Moving on into the box office information. Not available. Uh I'm pretty sure it was mainly like Roger said at Fests, and it just hasn't been out uh streaming anywhere yet. But uh our rotten tomato scores, 88% on the tomato meter.
SPEAKER_05Not bad.
SPEAKER_0267% on the audience popcorn meter.
SPEAKER_05Well, that sucks.
SPEAKER_02Well we've had worse. If you're not saying that, if you're if you're not metal, it might not be for you. All right, movie synopsis for Deathgasm. Um Outcast Bodie and Zach unwittingly summon an evil entity by the name of Aloth after their band Deathgasm plays a piece of sheet music named The Black Hymn. With chainsaws and beads in hand, the boys of Medina battle in hopes of being victorious before the dreadful and ever-encroaching witching hour, which spells doom for all of Grey Point. Um, that is Deathgasm, just a little digging up the bones on it, just a tad. Um, Roger Lisa, initial reactions to landing on it. How'd you guys feel when I let you know right away? Roger, because you recorded with it. I was very excited, Derek. It's been two years into making. How long have we been having Deathgasm?
SPEAKER_03It's been only for a bit. Yeah. Keep getting missed on the wheel. Exactly. Not any longer. Yep, here we are.
SPEAKER_05I remember I walked in because as I said, I was traveling a lot for work and dealing with that, and I had a ton of errands to do, so I couldn't record that day. And uh, I'm not gonna lie, I wasn't feeling up to recording. Yeah, although I do like cycle Gorman. Uh so when I walked in, you guys were done, and you told me, and I was like, You you're fucking with me. Nuh-uh. Yeah. And and Roger's like, no, no, no. I was like, about time, man.
SPEAKER_02I know. I mean, and that's how I felt. I was I was just like, oh, finally, we can finally talk about Deathgasm and Roger can move on.
SPEAKER_05Yes, until he puts two the sequel on there when it comes because we're gonna go to the end.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, whenever that's available. We'll have to wait at least a little while. It might be two years. It might be streaming by the time we finish the season. We're only I think this is our tenth movie, and we're only doing two more movies after this, and then we'll be doing the bracket and all that stuff. So this the season will be wrapping up pretty soon. Next up, feasting beans. And this is where we get into our topics of pros, cons, characters, dialogues, and our favorite kills slash scares. So uh Lisa, you gave us you gave us Psycho Gorman last episode, but uh with you finally be able to record this episode with us, I'd like to throw the pros to you first. So take the floor.
SPEAKER_05Sweet. So I do have a couple of pros to this movie. Um, first, I mean, it's an unapologetic love letter to metal. I mean, you gotta love metal to love this movie. I'm not a huge, huge heavy metal fan, but I do have an appreciation as my husband holds up his vinyl record to this movie because he's a nerd. But it does lean to hard metal culture without making it feel like a joke, if you get my drift.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, the soundtrack does slap, especially the end credit uh when it goes through the the the uh the band. Yeah. Um I do it is a fun, gory, over-the-top practical effects movie. So I do appreciate that. There is a lot of comedy throughout, and it doesn't like it's not in your face comedy, it's just the quick little like references here and there that you pick up in normal conversations, which I like the quick wittedness of it does have some pretty charming characters throughout, and then it it is fast paced, it's not boring at all. Um then, you know, heavy metal and demons. I mean, yeah, what's what's wrong with that?
SPEAKER_02Nothing. And then also if you're looking to entertain us, nothing.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. Yeah, I do understand. This is probably not gonna be everybody's vibe, but you know, I thought it was pretty entertaining throughout. I did not think when Roger introduced this to me I was gonna like it, but I was pretty shocked that I I enjoyed it as much as I did. And actually coming off of Psycho Gorman and watching it, I think it's a pretty good compliment for each other.
SPEAKER_02I think it's uh it's it could be a double it can be a double feature. Yeah, and it'd be enjoyable, it'd be a good day.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. So those were my pros.
SPEAKER_02Nice.
SPEAKER_05Roger.
SPEAKER_03Roger. I'm gonna add on to Lisa's comment there in pros on the soundtrack. It is awesome. And I have it right here from me available at Mond from Mondo Records.
SPEAKER_02If I if I may ask, are there any certain tracks that you like the best? There is. Okay, what is what is your favorite track off of this what is uh the Deathgasm record?
SPEAKER_03It's from the band Skullfist, and you'll recognize the song. It's the song at the end credits called I don't want to get it wrong.
SPEAKER_02Hold on, let me look at it. This is the song I'm talking about. Bad for good. Bad for good from Skullfist. Skullfist.
SPEAKER_03A Canadian Haiti uh heavy metal uh thrush band.
SPEAKER_02Canadian Haitian metal band.
SPEAKER_03What the fuck? I got my tongue tied. They're from Canada.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's that's sick.
SPEAKER_03And also another standout band on here that I've listened to uh also is the band Elm Street.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I don't I've never even heard of that.
SPEAKER_03They're from I want to say uh it's either New Zealand or Australia. Okay, cool. They have a song called Heavy Metal Power that's used in the movie. Uh if you listen to the re these records of just not not just definitely, they're really good. Uh in uh mostly all the bands they use in the movie are really good. So if you like metal, I highly suggest those to go through their records and listen to them. Uh other pros is uh the good old practical effects. I like the uh in the makeup of all the demons look really good with the blood dripping down the mouths and the black eyes and their eyes looking at the eye.
SPEAKER_02You can tell the teeth, yeah. Look like they could crumble out at any moment, but it did look it looked super fucked up.
SPEAKER_03Practical first, it would touch up some you know, some computer here and there, but nothing crazy, but uh they look it looks really, really good.
SPEAKER_05The makeup, the demons almost reminded me of Evil Dead Demons.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yeah, and the way they even that's one of my things. The way they shot No, it's good, but the way they even shot them, like the zoom in and like the chaotic camera angles was very Evil Dead esque, and I was like, oh that's fucking cool. Like they looked crazy, and then we're getting a cool, crazy shot of them.
SPEAKER_03I would assume he's uh very highly influenced from the Evil Dead movies from from some of the kills, the use of chainsaw. Exactly.
SPEAKER_02The chainsaw work, yeah. But it like even the edit cuts and all that, like it's very it's very like Edgar Wright, Sam Raimi looking. Yeah. So cool.
SPEAKER_03The quick cuts when they zoom in when they're slapping hands, like doing the metal sign. Yeah, it's like very cool. I love it. Also, uh good jok the jokes, the good jokes uh the comedy of it. Yeah, land's really good. I also like the uh sex toy weapons. Yeah, the church stuff, yeah. The church box and he uh slaps uh the rosary beads, puts the uh puts the big black uh uh uh horse cock, you can say horse cock right in the right in his mouth.
SPEAKER_05Double-sided dildo.
SPEAKER_02It was double-sided? I thought it was I thought that was a single-sided.
SPEAKER_05It just wasn't just I didn't see balls.
SPEAKER_03So I figured it reminds me of my dad. Oh, good. Oh fuck. I said it during the movie. It reminds me of my dad.
SPEAKER_05Seriously, when his dad Okay when his dad passed away and we went through his stuff, his dad had a sex bag.
SPEAKER_03Do you want this in the podcast? You can put it in the podcast. I'll talk about it all the time. Check it.
SPEAKER_05Roger has no shame.
SPEAKER_03I I knew about this bag because I dropped him off at a hotel one night to pleasure a woman. Your dad is a he he was a street walker? Uh he was he was a whore uh later in life. He liked girls. The Vijay J.
SPEAKER_02Well, when and the girls obviously liked him and all of his uh tools.
SPEAKER_03So that one night when I was gonna drop him off, he had a bag on his bed. I was like, and I was went to go grab his stuff, and it was zipped open, and I looked, and it was just full of dicks. Yeah, sex toys like sex toys, blues, dildos. He's just a man on a mission. So when we cleaned out his apartment, I knew about the bag, and I told Lisa, I was like, Oh, I bet there's a bag, a blue bag that's filled with Did you get there? There was all of us, all of us were there, and I pulled it out. I'm like, here it is. And I pulled it up and opened it up and it was just long double-sided dildos and all crazy shit.
SPEAKER_05There's a VHS called Cram My Cunt.
SPEAKER_03Cram my cunt. I sent that to my sister in her care package.
SPEAKER_02It was that that's the coolest name for anything. Cram My Cunt.
SPEAKER_05I did warn his sister though, because she has two little girls. I was like, hey, I'm sure I'm sure Roger didn't tell you, but when you open this, don't do it in front of the girls.
SPEAKER_03Well, we ended up taking the double-sided dildo. We signed it and we put it in my old roommate's uh boots that he hadn't come pick up yet because he was just he was just putting it off, putting it off. So I was like, you know what? Let me stuff this inside his boot. So he took them, didn't realize it until like weeks later and put him on. He's like, What the fuck's this? And he took it out, and it was a double-sided cock.
SPEAKER_02What what is your life? You're just putting your dad's double-sided dildo in your in your front's.
SPEAKER_03When you're friends with me, Derek, anything can happen at any given time. Oh my god. That's amazing. But it's a good scene.
SPEAKER_04It was yeah.
SPEAKER_03Is that your prose? Yeah, is that it?
SPEAKER_05You can't even read your own handwriting.
SPEAKER_03Carrie does that too. I'll sloppy there.
SPEAKER_02She'll write notes to herself, and she's like, I don't know what I'm talking about.
SPEAKER_05I do it on the phone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05But even then, like, ask Shelly. You can't even make my text out.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I wrote keeping the mood light. It's never overall the movie's never overall like scary. It's just it's just fun and light. It's not dark. It's not a dark horror movie. It's very light. Yeah. For all kids in all ages. Yeah.
SPEAKER_08For all kids. No. No, it's not.
SPEAKER_0314 and up. 14 and up on this one.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I would say 14 and up.
SPEAKER_02Okay. That's fine. There's some boobs. 16 and 10. There's some boobs. Yeah, but there's worse than boobs.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, there's a dick scene, dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03One of my favorite scenes. I think I said kills, yeah. I told you don't let Ian watch this one, right? Yeah. I think going into it. Yeah, it's like it's not, it's not Ian one.
SPEAKER_02He actually watched the end of uh Frankenstein with me.
SPEAKER_05Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_02So anyone out there if you got young kids in your life and they're just getting into the horror monster stuff. I Frank, the new Frankenstein movies is good. You can watch with your kid. Um was any other pros before I jump in with mine?
SPEAKER_03No, that is uh my uh my pros off the head.
SPEAKER_05No, go ahead, Derek.
SPEAKER_02So I feel like we're echoing each other, but uh I do agree. I love the metalness of this, and you can tell it was written by someone who had an actual endearment for metal culture. Uh he dropped a burzum reference, and you don't do that unless you know know what's up as far as like black metal. So uh Jason Lee Houghton is a legit metal fan. Uh I've I've I watched an interview with him about like when he was a teenager and stuff, like he was into he was into black metal, he was into thrash, he was into all these subgenres of it. But um, I know it holds like a special place in his heart. So I thought that was just really cool that he was able to do he was able to make a project that included like a a real life passion for him, so I think that's cool, and I think it shows in the film in the final product. So um also so many creative kills. I think they really mixed it up in this film and they let it fly. And I don't want to go into great detail because I know we have uh kills and scares, but we'll talk about kills most likely. So I'll leave it at that. And then uh we already talked about it a little bit, but I did love the editing style. And I'm a huge Sam Raimi fan. I love the Evil Dead movies. Uh I loved I loved Drag Me to Hell. I loved all of his movies. Anytime I get a fun, chaotic, like zoom in shot and just like a cutaway, and just I enjoy the style of this film, the editing style a lot. And uh yeah, those were my pros. Let's move on to cons. What's a negative you feel?
SPEAKER_05So before I get into negative, one more shout out that I forgot.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_05There was one scene I I lost it, and this is probably Furby why I lost it. It was Zach and Brody when Birdie first met Zach in the record store. And if if you look at our vinyl record collections, more or less my husband's vinyl record collection, but Birdie picks up the the uh poison, the yeah, the poison, the hair metal band thing, and Zach's like, oh yeah, and then he picks up the heavy metal thing, they're like, fuck yeah, but I laughed my ass off because that's my husband's vinyl records. He has these glorious like hair metal bands and then heavy metal bands.
SPEAKER_02It's a mixture. Yeah. That scene is so hilarious though, because like I know you order a lot of your records off of you know different websites and stuff, but going to a record store is always like you see like who your people are, like the people in your section, and you're like go, you know, you're standing shoulder to shoulder with people and you're sifting through the bins, and you and when someone pulls one out, you always look over and you're like, that guy's that guy's cool. You know, you know who the real ones are when they pull out the good stuff. So that that scene was funny because they're just kind of like looking back and forth at each other's records.
SPEAKER_03We know they both listen to it, they just don't want to admit it out loud.
SPEAKER_02That's probably it.
SPEAKER_03Glam metal, yeah, rules. It's my favorite subgenre of metal. Glam metal. Glam glam. Glam, hair, whatever you want to call it. I call it pop metal. Yeah, essentially what it is. It's just pop music with metal, metal, metal riffs. But uh, but I like it all. The only thing I don't really like is like the hardcore death metal, like death, like uh Campbell courts, stuff like that. That's the stuff I like.
SPEAKER_05But you listen to Guar, isn't that no, it's not Gwar has more melody.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So we saw okay, so Gwar was at Warp Tour. Guar was at Warp Tour. I've I've always known of Guar, I've never seen them, and I'm kicking myself because it was so theatrical, it's so fucking awesome. And the music is good, anyways. It's like a little thrashy, uh, a little like chuggy and stuff. It's it's good music, but the stage show they put on and just they were tight live too. And with like their costumes and everything, like it's crazy, it's crazy how good they are. You know, they've been doing it for fucking ever, but um, yeah, Guar was fucking amazing at warp tour.
SPEAKER_03The m musici I respect the musicianship of metal because it's it's not like it's like one like one coordinate, like just banging away. It's it's they're you know going up and down the neck of the guitars or they're getting it, they're playing their solos, or it's a lot of musicianship goes into songs, even though it doesn't sound like maybe it doesn't sound like it, but it does even the black metal songs and and all those all the hardcore.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but even like to get into the weeds of this, I mean you can see with a lot of metal stuff that it's based in blues, and like it has those blue scales, so like it's it's all derivative of something else. Well, rock music in general, yeah. Exactly, yes. But even like so, it's just metal's just like an offshoot of like rock, it's faster rock music. It's not that they are repeating what's been done before, it's they're finding a new way to do it, and they're giving it to you in a different manner. So uh it's always always enjoyable. All right, what were you talking about?
SPEAKER_05We're going into my cons.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_05All right, so just a couple. Um obviously, from a movie head that I am, if you do look at this, although I do appreciate the fast pacing and and the love letter to metal, if you look at it as a whole, there is somewhat of a thin plot. I mean, there's not really substance to it. So as a movie person, you're just like, okay, it's a fun go love letter to you know metal, but what is this? This is not realistic. But I mean, if you look at movies, they're movies usually 90% of the time they're not realistic, like this morning. There's no predator out there, but still, it's just a very thin plot. Um, you don't really have substance, you don't have true real emotional journeys or deep impact lures or character arcs. It's just a thin plot.
SPEAKER_02It it's very surface level, like exactly. We're just we're getting we're not getting into the character characters, and it almost feels like in a lot of comedies do this where we don't get a lot of meat on the characters. It's almost like it's secondary to what the the purpose of this movie is. Exactly. But for those of us who are maybe looking for a little bit more, it's it's gonna be a miss when you're like, yeah, okay, but like who is this character and like why is this happening? I see that it's happening, and I understand that they got they took this journey to get here, but it's like, but why? Why did they make these choices? Yeah, but yeah.
SPEAKER_05And um, I I get it, it's a comedy. There's gonna have your campy moments. Some of them sometimes are called for, some of them sometimes it's not, and you're like, okay, that's a little too campy, pull it back. Um and yeah, we don't really know the budget going into this. We kind of guessed it at what 200k, I think Roger guessed.
SPEAKER_02200, 200 plus.
SPEAKER_05Somewhere around that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because I think he got some from the New Zealand whatever film mission.
SPEAKER_05So you definitely can tell that there's gonna be some like do-it-yourself cheap looking scenes. So that kind of adds to the thinness of the plot. So watching it, you're just like, oh that that kind of stinks. But you get it as an audience. So those that that was kind of my my cons. Not not too many, but just yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I love it.
SPEAKER_05That's all I had. Roger.
SPEAKER_02Roger, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_05He's trying to find that budget because he's he's chat GPTing the damn budget.
SPEAKER_03It says it said it was about 200 $200,000. I I bet they got a little bit more though. I'm sure, I'm sure they found something.
SPEAKER_02To be honest, like $200,000 is a pretty good budget. Yeah, yeah. There we've we've covered movies on this that are recent. I think Hellhouse LLC was made, and obviously that's a much different movie. It's a found footage film, but that was made for like 20k. So you can make something that and it did, like it looked it looked good. Like the production of this film is very well, but maybe had to cut corners and stuff to your point.
SPEAKER_03Well, they could get tax credits in New Zealand. I'm sure there's something that they give them that they can stretch that money very far. Yeah. And plus a lot of these actors I think at the time were known were not really known as much from big stuff, so it's it wasn't super expensive.
SPEAKER_02Like I said, the only one that I knew of anything else, and it didn't it didn't jump out at me, was Ricky Daggers, who we find I I talked about in the beginning, who plays Howard in the X films. Like everybody else, when I was going through their filmography, yeah, I had no idea. I'm sure I'm sure uh the movie industry in New Zealand, like they might be big players or whatever, but I still like I I haven't seen them in a lot of other stuff. What about your cons?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, what are your cons?
SPEAKER_02I have no cons.
SPEAKER_05That's bullshit. Second week? That's bullshit. There's always something.
SPEAKER_03There's something that has to be well this movie, and there's nothing wrong with it. There's nothing wrong with it. No, I I I tried hard when I was re-watching it.
SPEAKER_02What about what so you like hair metal? Maybe they could have had some nice glam hair metal for it.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it wouldn't it wouldn't have fit in the movie. God damn it.
SPEAKER_05I'm not buying it. I'm trying to find something. I'm not buying it. We have to buy it.
SPEAKER_03It wasn't longer. I wish the movie was longer. I might was longer.
SPEAKER_02Actually, this was this was a tight little movie. What was it, an hour and twenty-five, twenty-four, something like that?
SPEAKER_03It was a tight it was a tight run. It goes real quick.
SPEAKER_02Maybe a blooper reel? Would you like the blooper reel with their funny New Zealand? I haven't watched it.
SPEAKER_03I haven't watched it in a while, but I I've watched it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I'm still not buying it. There has to be even with Psycho Gorman, there has to be a con.
SPEAKER_03I was never bored, entertains me from start to finish. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_02I wish everyone could see Lisa's face. Six L and the lips burst. Oh my god, man.
SPEAKER_03I think the I think the plot was fine. I uh you know, he's a small, he's a kid who's coming from uh has the moving his uh in-law or not in-laws, but uh yeah, his mom is his uh aunts and uncles and doesn't fit in, and he's an outcast. What did he say about his uncle he had a heart on for Jesus? Yeah, right. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I hope I didn't take anyone's dialogue.
SPEAKER_05Here's a con. I just I just got a con. Are you okay?
SPEAKER_02I hit my tooth on my fucking microphone.
SPEAKER_05He thought it was a gizzy.
SPEAKER_02I did.
SPEAKER_05Here's here's a con. Here's a con for Roger. At the end of the movie, there's no way that hot chick would have stayed with Brody as long as she did.
SPEAKER_03Brody's the man. Bullshit. He is himself.
SPEAKER_05He would have fucked him once and then been like, all right, next guy.
SPEAKER_03He's true to himself because he's he's the metal kid and he could have changed. He could have tried to fit in. But he doesn't.
SPEAKER_02Medina's scene where she listens to metal for the first time, I guess. Oh, when she gets sucked into on top of the yeah, and she does her she's like first time I listened to metal back. She's swinging the air who's conquering, and the other girls are boobies are out. Yeah, that was that was funny. That was an enjoyable moment. That's what happens when you listen to metal.
SPEAKER_03No, it didn't. You get taken to a place of mythical.
SPEAKER_02This is the this is the part of the podcast where we shit on the the things of the movie. So I'm gonna I'm gonna jump in with some of my cons. Yes. Kind of piggybacking off of what lovely Lisa said. Thank you. Uh the story itself felt a bit unoriginal for me. Um, and it might be because I've seen a ton of movies already about kids who are into some sort of like music counterculture that are bullied and shit on by everyone. And and I'm just I guess it's a trope of like teenager movies where they're into these things, and I'm kind of over it. Like, I think it would be cool if like there was a kid who was into death metal and into all this stuff, and like his family was supportive, or like do something different, or like there's not that always conflict where everyone in their life is like shitting on him and all that stuff. I know it's a trope because it's a thing that happens in life, but maybe in our art and in our movies that we you know bring these up, maybe something different would be nice. So I just felt it was but a bit unoriginal. And my other big con was the betrayal subplot in this film between Brody and Zach bummed me out. I felt like it was completely unnecessary, and we didn't need to see the one person who Brody found as like a kindred spirit break his heart. Like, I know this is a comedy and it's like lighthearted and stuff, but for me, that moment I was like shattered for him. I was like, these dudes who are like blood brothers, and this asshole Zach just sneaks around and lies and hooks up with a girl that he's like crushing on majorly, and I was like, that fucking bummed me out. The whole that whole part, and then like him coming back and then being friends, like I didn't like that, and I didn't like that Medina and him were together at the end. I was like, I don't like any of this part of this movie.
SPEAKER_03But that makes the the perfect candidate for him to become the uh demon man.
SPEAKER_02He was already he was already the evilest one in the room without doing that, so I just I didn't like the portrayal part of this. It bummed me out, and that's my cons.
SPEAKER_05And that can that could even be your con because you even said this morning what Zach did was dickish. So that could be one of your cons.
SPEAKER_03Fine.
SPEAKER_05Thank you. I win.
SPEAKER_03I don't yeah, Zach, you son of a bitch. We'll get into characters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's her next part. So let's let's jump into opening.
SPEAKER_05But before we do that, I do I do agree with what you said though. Yeah. Um, all of your points. And like, I would like to see a movie where you know the kid does do like we've seen play the record backwards and do this, and the kid's gonna get beat up. Let's let's do the positive thing where the kid's successful, but then he just takes over the world and it just works out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Why do we have to go this way? I get it, but still.
SPEAKER_02One of the funniest moments to me in this film was when Brody was in like the corpse paint and he bumps into Medina outside of the whatever fucking convenience store. Yeah. And they get ice cream, and they're just sitting on the bench eating ice cream, and he's just in this corpse paint, and she is in like a nice dress, like blonde hair, and it just like the the between the two of them. I was like, that was the funniest part to me because it was like, here's this kid who's in this situation. You're not expecting to see a kid in in corpse paint sitting on a park bench licking ice cream. So that was like one of my favorite moments in this movie, but it was because like it was him doing something outside of what we always see these kids in these movies do.
SPEAKER_03So that's the iconic scene from the movie, I think. Yeah, it's like the one that sticks out when people watch. I think it's it's that imagery of him on the bench with ice cream.
SPEAKER_02And it's uh it's a hilarious imagery, it's so funny. But I think like do stuff like that, do more of that. But uh let's jump into characters, Lisa. Go go down your list.
SPEAKER_05So mine's gonna be easy. The liked and the least liked are the same person. Ah it's gonna be it's gonna be Zach.
SPEAKER_02Liked and least liked. Okay.
SPEAKER_05So let me explain. Zach with his one-liners and how he's like, fuck off, kiss my ass, you you you you point out at his dick, and then he punch his dick, like freaking hilarious. I loved that part of Zach.
SPEAKER_02Stealing the petro out of the fucking ambulance. Yes, that was funny. That was good.
SPEAKER_05So I loved those Zach moments. But when Zach did the betrayal and Zach became a dick and he was an asshole to Brody, uh, that's what made him the the least. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02I agree.
SPEAKER_05I know that was pretty quick.
SPEAKER_02Wow, that was good. Yeah. Roger, what about you?
SPEAKER_05Oh, and the cousin. The cousin was a dick. David. He was a little prick. He got his. He did, and that's one of my favorite kills, which we'll go into in a minute. All right. Right. Roger.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I just already discussed my kills and scenes already. But we'll get back to him.
SPEAKER_02We didn't get into detail. Yeah, we just scurried past them. You can talk about it.
SPEAKER_05Let's go back to cons. The fact that you're checking sports during our podcast.
SPEAKER_02I'm just checking scores real quick. You got fantasy going on? Oh, yeah. Sunday. It is. It is Sunday and it's college football season.
SPEAKER_03So it's uh college was yesterday. Oh. And today's NFL.
SPEAKER_05Get it right.
SPEAKER_03Do you do NFL stuff too? Yeah. Just NFL stuff.
SPEAKER_05He doesn't do fantasy stuff.
SPEAKER_02But you don't do fantasy, you just do like pick'ems and stuff. Fantasy and oh, I'm sorry. So you do do fantasy for okay, my bad.
SPEAKER_05For na for For national, wow. For professional, he does fantasy. What's that? That's today. Fantasy football. Buccaneers and all that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I'm sorry. I thought like the website was professional. And I was like, what website are you going to to do fantasy football?
SPEAKER_03Derek likes horror movies and punk music, but not and soccer. But football? I like I like the original football. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05He likes the soccer football. He doesn't like the football football.
SPEAKER_02I do like the pigskin football, but uh I just actually I'm boycotting my team this year, anyways.
SPEAKER_05Oh, wait, and he likes stained glass. Get it straight.
SPEAKER_02I saw your Coca-Cola glass bottle. He loved it. Ooh.
SPEAKER_05Those are mine. Those are my grandpas.
SPEAKER_02Derek's gonna walk out here and hear cling, cling, cling.
SPEAKER_05He's gonna steal my shit.
SPEAKER_02I'm stealing all your Christmas lights. They're all mine.
SPEAKER_05Sorry, Roger. Go ahead. Go ahead. Comment where I like Brody.
SPEAKER_03Oh, character. He's a fun, fun character. I can relate to him a little bit in high school and all that. Because you know, he's sometimes you just don't fit in. You feel like, and uh, but you just gotta stay true to you and be who you are, uh, like he does. Zach, I like him. I love his love and hate relationship, of course, because he does bad stuff to Brody, but he also he redeems himself by then in the movie. So it's one of those uh you know, he has good and bad qualities.
SPEAKER_02I mean, there is a redeeming part where he's he knows that Aloth is like trying to take over his body. He's like, hey, you have to get rid of me. Like, I gotta go. So that's uh that's a commendable thing for a despicable character to do.
SPEAKER_03In in Medina, I like I like the her character a lot. I think she's funny. It's when she like when she uh kills a the guy with the axe and she's like, should I have a like a cool one-liner like ecstasy of it?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So you know, she has a good sense of humor, and uh, you know, she could easily write off like Brody and just be like the cool popular chicken school, but she doesn't. She just she likes people who are themselves and and and and and are kind and and just you know, not not a dick.
SPEAKER_02Well she's totally she's totally she's she's turned off by David when he's talking about how he's gonna bully his cousin in the car. She was just like, that doesn't turn me on, like take me home. I want to go home. So I think she has a has a an allergic reaction to shit bags. So good for her. That's it. That's it.
SPEAKER_05Who's your least favorite? Are we doing that?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it was all in one. Just oh least favorite's the his his cousin. Okay, yeah, David.
SPEAKER_05He's a douche canoe.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Your your cousin just moved in. Obviously, tragic. His mom's in jail, right? For the giving Fellatio to the mall Santa. She's not dead, right? Or no, she No, she's dead.
SPEAKER_05She's dead. The mom Bertie's mom's dead.
SPEAKER_02How did she die again? Was it struggle?
SPEAKER_03She said they said because they make the joke that she went crazy. So it's probably, yeah, probably something. I forget exactly.
SPEAKER_02But your cousin moves in. Cool, like you guys don't see eye to eye, but you're just like the first bully that he has to deal with and a complete asshole.
SPEAKER_05Because people suck asses.
SPEAKER_02People suck if you even blood. Yes. Family sometimes are the biggest assholes.
SPEAKER_03Well, if you go back to your high high school days and think about it, the metal, the metalhead kids, like the real like metalhead ones like dressed like Brody and like with black t-shirts and all that at that time, like usually aren't the ones that rule the school either. No, no, no. They're the ones that are kind of like you know, can be made fun of, or no one really, you know, they're not the most popular. They're not really playing easy target. Yeah, they don't they don't play the sports.
SPEAKER_02Any any kid, yeah, who's wearing their heart on their sleeve, especially into those, like I said, the countercultures, it's gonna be an easy target for kids who are. The jocks are the bullies typically.
SPEAKER_03His cousin's representing high school. Yeah. He is essentially high school, and everyone, everyone doesn't like the whip, doesn't like their differences. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05What about you, Derek?
SPEAKER_02I really enjoyed both Dion and Giles. They were both just great dudes who are up for anything and everything. They even joined Brody's band and then joined up with the forces of good to battle against all these crazy cultists and demons. So uh the good news, like we discussed before, they both seem to be part of the upcoming remake, so that's good. Good guys will be back in the in the Gore Mageddon Deathgasm 2.
SPEAKER_03I think the only one that didn't come back was the kid that played the drummer, right? Because that's what you read it that would be they're both back. Oh, they're all back.
SPEAKER_02They're both back. So in some way, if they're coming back. I know. We'll see. This was made in 2015 too. I'm curious. I'm staying away from all the trailer stuff, but I'm curious where uh Jason Lee Howden took this story. Oh, I read the synopsis already. Oh, you did for the sequel, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Don't spoil it. Spoil it like that.
SPEAKER_03But it makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Wait the what they do. Cool. Keep it to yourself.
SPEAKER_05Shut your whore mouth.
SPEAKER_02Um, I talked about it before, but I despise Zach. Um what was it? He was one half, what was it called? Brotherhood of Steel. Lying and sneaking around, making out with a girlfriend.
SPEAKER_03He's cool. He's that friend from school that no matter what you're if you hang out with me, you're always gonna get in trouble. No matter, no matter what.
SPEAKER_02He's he's like, I had friends like that, but they didn't they didn't try to steal my girlfriend.
SPEAKER_05So I think Carrie would have like kicked him in the nuts.
SPEAKER_02Carrie went to a different high school anyway, so they wouldn't. One time Carrie's friend uh who we ran around with, it was my senior year. Uh she moved to our high school and she was like, you know, she looked like a punk girl, and uh this kid's like, oh, is that is that your girlfriend? I was like, no, that's that's not my girlfriend. Just because there's a punk girl in our school doesn't mean it's my girlfriend. Fucking weird. I was like, she's my friend, but she's not my girlfriend. Um but I have a worthless character, and it goes to Shauna. She was the psychic from the record store. She was a record owner's wife. What's her name, Shauna? Shauna, right?
SPEAKER_05I thought it started with an M. Maybe I'm wrong. You might be right.
SPEAKER_02No, look at look it up louder. Look it up.
SPEAKER_05I just want to make sure we're accurate because I can't freaking remember her name. But I know who you're talking about because at the end the guy's hand went through. I know the kill.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_05I just can't remember her name now.
SPEAKER_02It was her husband. He was like sneaking under the records anyway. Took her heart.
SPEAKER_05I thought she was gonna be something big.
SPEAKER_02That's I she was so worthless. I was like, she was a psychic, she had the tools, like when they first met, she had a vision of like something going bad, didn't fucking say anything to Brody or Zach, like, hey, there's a force coming for you. Like, didn't fucking warn anybody, and then sh all she did was give us a little exposition on Aloth and like how he worked and how he took over the evilest person in the room, and then got fucking her heart ripped out by her husband. The and I was like, you should have been like the catalyst to defeat this thing if you were fucking worthless.
SPEAKER_03Shauna was the one giving the blowjob owner of the two.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so who is the character that is the record store uh owners? Are you on IMBD?
SPEAKER_05I think it was Edna, Adnes?
SPEAKER_02Abigail. Abigail. Abigail. Good job, Roger. So yeah, Abigail was the most worthless character. She should have been so much more, and she just nothing. All she did was think to herself, something's wrong, and then not talk to anybody. So yeah, that's that's my thoughts on the characters. She was a foreshadow. Yeah, but she didn't fucking do anything about it. She just thought to herself and then fucking sat on her hands and didn't do shit.
SPEAKER_05She's that per she's that person in the group project that is a sign, and then she just sits back and lets the person do all the work. Takes credit and then takes credit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's her. I'm glad she got her heart ripped out. All right, moving on. Dialogue. There's a lot of great dialogue in this one. Lisa, do you want to go? Yeah, very quotable. Yeah, there's a quotable movie.
SPEAKER_05I have a couple actually that stood out. There are a lot of good quotables. Hold on. Where are my quotes? My notes? Oh my gosh. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02Quotes in your notes.
SPEAKER_05Quotes in my notes. So my lines, like I said, there's a lot of great quotes in here, but there's a couple that stood out. One Brody said, I mean, it's not Gabe, it's metal. I thought that was kind of comical. And then the other one, Zach said, and I'm cliff noting these. Yeah. And it's, dude, everything we do is usually a bad idea. And that one kind of stuck out to me because typically in my in my friend group, specifically, usually with Shelly. That's that's usually how it goes. So yeah, I loved those two lines.
SPEAKER_02That resonated with you. It did. Yeah. Nice.
SPEAKER_05Roger.
SPEAKER_02Roger, what do you have? Any dialogue?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I got I wrote down a few quotes. I could have written down a ton, but I just wrote down a few ones. Uh in the beginning, Brody's teacher goes, uh, Brody, great drawing. I really like the shading on the demon pins.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Just calling them out. He gets his notebook confiscated. Yeah. That's pretty funny. Yeah. And Brody says, uh, when life sucks, throw on some metal.
SPEAKER_02Mm-hmm. Is that your motto? It is. When life sucks, throw on some poison.
SPEAKER_05But for exactly, for you is it is it heavy metal or hair metal?
SPEAKER_03Hair metal is heavy metal. Part of that. Just it depends on some heavy metal, some hair metal bands are a little bit more harder, but it's it's more glam metal. Hair metal is like you can say hair metal, but it's anyone with like long long hair. Yeah. But you know, the glam is the one where they dressed up like girls. Yeah. Girlish. Like the Montley Cruz poisons. That's glam. So you're more of a hair metal? I like it all. Yeah. I like it all.
SPEAKER_02Anything under under most under the Glenal banner. Glam.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. I like the glam because I like the pop, the more the pop sound. Uh but uh, you know, uh, you know, I've been working on a Spotify playlist for two, almost two years. Yeah, I'm plugging it. It's fucking fun. And it's called All Metal Hard Rock Mix of the 70s, 80s, 90s, 2000s. It has right now.
SPEAKER_0256 people? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03It's 542 hours long. Well, that's a card drive. Which is 7,000, about 7,700 songs. I'm working on it for two years. So what I do, I find a metal band, I'll go through their entire discography song by song. Yeah. And I'll put all the songs I like on it. So I've been doing it for two, almost two years. Yeah. 542 hours.
SPEAKER_02So we just we just got Apple music like uh a couple months back. And I've been going through most bands that I know and I listened to like when I was in high school, and like going through and making a list and uh slowly building out my uh Spotify playlist.
SPEAKER_03Well Spotify Spotify can add 10,000 songs on it on one playlist. Oh, on a playlist up to 10,000. So my goal is 10,000. So I'm working on it. That's probably still gonna shipping away at it six months to a year to finish it off. But it's it's called the all-metal hard rock mix mix.
SPEAKER_05This playlist when we get in the car and he puts it on. It's it's getting to the point where it all sounds the fucking same. Yeah. And I just mute it out.
SPEAKER_03I got a lot of bands that are on this uh record on the soundtrack on this very skull fist.
SPEAKER_05Any other one-liners?
SPEAKER_03Uh let me look at my thing. Now, who doesn't have a gag reflex?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I love yeah. That was I was gonna talk about that during uh one of my favorite kills, but yeah, that was uh I guess that's Shauna when she stabbed the fucking the cultist leader guy in the throat after you know we saw our introduction to Shauna was her popping her job her popping her head up from the don't let Ian listen to this episode. Is that a blowjob or someone eating mac and cheese? I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I can't tell that they're continue please.
SPEAKER_03I can't read my last one. So that's it for me. Can you don't it says don't tell this something, something cumulative.
SPEAKER_02You should have just got a second fucking paper instead of trying to fit it on the the very corner of the it looks like it looks like the word cum yacht, but it's not something, something come up.
SPEAKER_03Don't no, it's it says don't tell this Mason Mansion. I don't know what the fuck that says. Something, something by the something.
SPEAKER_02Don't tell this Manson. There is there is a line in there where there that Manson family was referenced.
SPEAKER_03Yes. That's it was something to do, yeah. Uh don't tell this Manson family. Oh, cum. Oh. I got it now. Yes, don't tell this, don't tell this Manson family cum bucket uh uh something, something. It was Manson family cum bucket.
SPEAKER_08Beautiful.
SPEAKER_03Medina Medina said it when uh she was uh being held uh and they're about to slit her slit her stomach.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, when she was on was she on the floor. No, it was when the lady grabbed her. And then uh homeboy saved the day, Zach. Okay. Uh my dialogue was a a little conversation with a little bit of diving into deep feelings from Brody. But uh Brody was sitting with Medina and he said, Do you like metal? And she said, Um, isn't it a bunch of guys screaming? And Brody said, No way. Well, apart from Grindcore, and Death Metal is kind of like that, and Deathcore, Screamo, porno grind, black metal, metal core, thrashed. Uh but apart from those, and then Medina says, It's just not my thing. I don't get it. And Brody says, uh, it's it's like when life sucks and you feel alone and empty. Uh you stick on some metal and life is better because somebody else knows the pain and rage that you're going through. So I liked that moment that moment a lot in that conversation because it highlighted like two things. You know, Roger, you were listening to metal when you were a kid, but uh I felt the same way when I was a kid growing up listening to like punk bands. Uh, and it highlighted two things. First of all, those of us who are into these like counterculture music things, we become obsessive with the genre and all of its sub-genres where we will like go through and dissect and like it can get very nuanced and annoying. Um, so that's uh it highlighted that part. And then the second part was was about how we highlighted about how you were finding a place that feels like home when you maybe don't feel like with your peers, you don't feel like you have a place you belong, or you know, Roger, you talked about a little bit ago, but uh I thought that was a really nice conversation. And in this comedy, it highlighted some important things I think for you know, kids who get into these things are maybe you know outside of the norm. So yeah, that was my favorite dialogue. Let's get into our favorite kills and or scares.
SPEAKER_05Oh gosh, hands down, like two I had two favorite kills. One when the cousin got it, because I thought it was hilarious because the cousin walked in, he obviously did not turn into a demon. Yes, but Brody was so fucking pissed at him for a beating the shit out of him and B destroying his personal stuff, especially the picture of the mom, which I was freaking pissed off. And so, like, he just went to town and killed his cousin. He essentially committed murder, and nobody's gonna know. Yeah, and and Zach was even like, dude, like he wasn't a demon. And and Brodie's like, yeah, he was. He came in and he was like, it was hilarious. And then the second one obviously was when Birdie and Zach killed the aunt and uncle with the sex toy, specifically the the double-sided or the horse penis dildo, and they came out in slow motion and just started beating the crap out of him with that and the anal beads. Yeah, which is funny because Birdie smelled the anal beads before they did that. Ugh. They were freaking hysterical. And then honorable mention was the demon with the penis exposed, and I think Birdie weed whacked it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it was like a barbed wire weed whacker, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Those were probably top three kills.
SPEAKER_02Amazing, yeah.
SPEAKER_05They were hilarious.
SPEAKER_02That was awesome, yeah.
SPEAKER_05Roger.
SPEAKER_02Did you have space on your papers? Yes. Okay, I'm just gonna.
SPEAKER_03Now I was just in general scene. I like the stealing the diesel out of the ambulance when it the camera pans back and you're right. And she's like, Don't you feel bad? Like, no. And you pants back and see the ambulance. That's a good joke. Uh I like when there uh he chainsaw the asshole of uh in the near the end. Was uh was that uh it was it was one of the uh the cult the cult people, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, just a good chainsaw kill. I mean, it doesn't take much. We're simple people.
SPEAKER_03And Zach does the 360 chainsaw. Oh, the the spin move and the people in the yard, yeah. That's pretty neat.
SPEAKER_02Were those those were ghouls, right? Those weren't uh or zombies, those weren't the cultish people.
SPEAKER_03No, no, yeah, they were just like the demon messengers, but the the the where he lands and he like puts him a like a as a like an X on them and they all kind of just fall apart behind him. It's pretty cool.
SPEAKER_02They're just like slicing in half and stuff. For the kill count, when I was watching it, the the uh what is it uh Dead Meat Podcast, there I think they got there was like eight count right there. They got like eight kills right there. So that's a lot, it's a lot in a quick moment.
SPEAKER_03In this in the sex toy fight scene that Lisa discussed. Yeah, it was great. It was good.
SPEAKER_05I know jamming the dildo in the mouth hilarious.
SPEAKER_03Well, it would when the dildo gets on the side of the uh his aunt's head and it has the rabbit and it's just spinning still flicking, yeah.
SPEAKER_05And then when Birdie came out and Zach reversed 69 then. Oh yeah, that's how they were, man.
SPEAKER_02So come on, man. That's how they were.
SPEAKER_05See, that's that's when Zach's likable. Yeah, it reminds me of me.
SPEAKER_02Allow those moments.
SPEAKER_03That's nothing I would do. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Murdering your aunt and uncle, putting him in a 69 position. All right. Good move.
SPEAKER_05Derek.
SPEAKER_02We we've talked about a lot that I enjoyed, but the only other one that I will uh highlight was Ricky Dagger's throat slit. I thought it was very impressive, practical effects-wise. It looks real good. I know, like how the blood was spurting out and and his head pulled back and it was like separating. I thought it looked amazing. How it was shot and probably edited, like that was probably a prosthetic, but like the way they edit it, it looked like it looked seamless, and it looked like they were pulling Ricky's head like off his off his neck. So I was just I was impressed by and I think it might have been our first kill, but I was really impressed by that. And then the funniest kill was when the henchman for the the cultist leader guy, he failed, and he came back to give the bad news, and they chopped his head off. There's blood all over the place, but he lost his shit because it was on his new fancy rug. Yeah, had them pull out a tarp, put the tarp down, his two henchmen put the head back on the on the neck and like slit it, and it falls onto the tarp, and then the guy's like, Yeah, yeah, that's good. I like that. I like that. It's like, what the fuck? But yeah, those are the two kills uh that I'll that I'll throw into this conversation for this part. But uh yeah.
SPEAKER_05I do want to add because you mentioned the prosthetic, there's one thing that bugged the crap out of me, and I don't know if it's because do we own 4K of this? No, it's just regular blue, or it might be just Star TV then.
SPEAKER_03There is no 4K.
SPEAKER_05But after they beat the crap out of Brody when he's sitting on the bed, I noticed the black eye, the patch thing where they applied it, and it bugs the crap out of me.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's true. That that part did look a little uh a little messy, yeah, but the kills were amazing. Yeah, you know, the blood spurting and the throat slitting was that's most chef's chef's kiss. Uh all right, let's move on into final. And this is where I tell the ending of the film and we discuss and give our ratings of one to five stabs. One stab, no redeeming value, two stabs bad, three stabs mediocre, four stabs good, five stabs masterpiece. After the cult captures Deathgasm, Shauna confiscates the sheep music and tears it up. Zack, remorseful for his betrayal, saves his bandmates, and together they disrupt the cult's ritual. Brody attempts to play the reverse to black him by memory, but the demons kill Dion and Guiles, leaving him unable to finish in time. Aloth possesses Shannon just as Zack impales her. With him now being the most evil person in the room, he becomes possessed and turns into a devilish-looking monster. Realizing that completing the hymn is impossible, Brody resorts to playing his own sweet riff. This causes Aloth to temporarily retreat from Zack's body. Zack urges Brody to kill him to prevent Aloth's resurrection, sacrificing himself to save his friends and the town. Months later, Brody and Medina are happily together and bonded by their love of death metal. Zack's spirit returns through one of Brody's records and they engage in a conversation about the afterlife. The eh. How do we feel about the ending of Deathgasm? Lisa.
SPEAKER_05Um I thought it was it was okay. I do enjoy the fact that Zach came back and talked to Birdie through the vinyl. And then uh if you watch some of the credits, they keep going through different band names now since Death Gasm thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's gotta he's gotta make a new band. Exactly. Zach's gone.
SPEAKER_05Uh but I I think for the story plot that we presented, I think it was a rightful ending. Sure, maybe a little cheesy and campy, but you know, overall, you it wrapped it up, put a bow on it, we were done until the sequel. Death Gasm Two Ten years later Electric Boogaloo. I like mine better.
SPEAKER_02Gore Mageddon, Electric Boogaloo.
SPEAKER_05Electric Boogaloo. For those who have seen Breaking One and Two.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, Breaking One and Two, Electric Boogaloo. I love breaking.
SPEAKER_05But yeah, I I was I was satisfied again with what we were given.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So what about you, Roger? How'd you feel about the ending?
SPEAKER_03I like the ending. And on a nice positive note, Bertie uh uh survived. Yeah, he got the girl. Still in the house.
SPEAKER_02She got a fucking girl, a sharpie tattoo that looks real muddy. Don't have your boyfriend draw shit up and get it on your body.
SPEAKER_03But uh yeah, overall it was good.
SPEAKER_02All right. I talked about it a little bit, but uh I like that there was a bit of a redeeming arc for Zach for me with uh him sacrificing himself. I did I did like that he kind of fell on the sword for the group. Um Um and uh yeah, I thought it was I thought it was a decent ending. I didn't have any qualms with it really. So yeah. You guys ready for stabs?
SPEAKER_05Stabby stabs.
SPEAKER_02Alright, Lisa, stabby stabby.
SPEAKER_05I gave it a why are you breathing so heavily into the mic and starting it?
SPEAKER_03Smell Derek.
SPEAKER_05That's not his mic, so why are you so loud?
SPEAKER_02One of those, one of those or Shelly's. I don't know.
SPEAKER_05I think it's mine. Yeah, I smell bestie. I miss bestie. Um then England. Drinking Tay and Atencrompats.
SPEAKER_02If you're listening to Shelly, we love you.
SPEAKER_05Love you. We're TikToking it and Facebooking it.
SPEAKER_02So you and Shelly? Yeah. That's good. Yeah.
SPEAKER_05Um, um, um, all right. So Stappy Staps. Uh, I gave it a three out of five. To me, it's an average movie. I'll pick it back up and watch it again. If it's on in the background, I'll do something and chuckle at it.
SPEAKER_03So Roger, what about you? Second. This is hard to believe, but I gave it five out of five stabs.
SPEAKER_05Are you fucking kidding me right now?
SPEAKER_03You gave I'm not fucking with you, Lisa. Oh. I love you though. Five out of five.
SPEAKER_05You are seriously giving it a five.
SPEAKER_03I love this movie.
SPEAKER_02He's been waiting for two years. I love this movie. Seriously?
SPEAKER_03I rated it five stars on Letterboxd. Oh, you did? Yeah. Dude. So I know if five stars, it's it's a lot of fun for me because it's usually you know, Back to the Future is my perfect movie, and that's a five-star comment.
SPEAKER_05Back to the Future, I understand. But fucking Death Castle?
SPEAKER_03As a fun horror comedy, it's one of my favorites.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Seriously? For the genre, yeah. Five or five. If you're just riding it for the fun, you're not like, yeah, I could I could see it being a high choice for someone. If you're looking for some some something sweet without substance, I could see it.
SPEAKER_05Roger Russell.
SPEAKER_04What the fuck? Then it's not a five if it's not perfect.
SPEAKER_03Horror comedy that's based on metal. Five out of five.
SPEAKER_05You're a terrible movie critic. Roger, look at me. This is not a five out of five movie. It is to Roger.
SPEAKER_03Fine. Four out of five. Really, it's five out of five.
SPEAKER_05It's not a five out of five.
SPEAKER_03Four out of five.
SPEAKER_05It's a five. Is that better? It's five out of five. It's not a fucking five out of five.
SPEAKER_02Alright, moving on.
SPEAKER_05No, we're not moving on.
SPEAKER_02Moving on.
SPEAKER_05No, like Life of Chuck, fucking Great Walk.
SPEAKER_02I'm not comparing to that. Not the Great Walk. The long walk. I'm not comparing the Great Walk.
SPEAKER_05The Great Walk.
SPEAKER_02Walk to Remember. Walk to Remember.
SPEAKER_05No, not too.
SPEAKER_02Walk to Remember. Now let's talk.
SPEAKER_05Like those Back to the Future, yeah, but this is not. There's no way.
SPEAKER_03For the podcast. It's a five out of five stabs. All right. Moving to Roger Single, no.
SPEAKER_02Roger. Take all these Christmas lights with you.
SPEAKER_05Um these are my Christmas lights. What are your stabs, Derek?
SPEAKER_02Great gore, great music, mediocre story. I give it three and a half. Thank you.
SPEAKER_05That's that's very logical, Derek. I agree with that.
SPEAKER_03Actually, that was higher than I thought Derek was going to give it. When I originally offered this movie to the wheel, yeah. Well, because I know you're not really a metal guy and you're punk guy. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02But I but I re I recognize But doesn't punk fall under metal?
SPEAKER_05In Derek. No. Way different. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, there's there's like cross, like thrash metal. Parallel, maybe. There's so there's like thrash metal, which thrash is like derived a punk, like fast, but the metal is just like the chugging and stuff. So there's there's cross up.
SPEAKER_03I do listen. I do have a few punk glam metal bands on here that's infused. It has uh punk elements with mixed with glam, and it's a lot of fun. On your Spotify list? Yep.
SPEAKER_05But what did you think he was gonna rate it?
SPEAKER_03When I originally because he doesn't like memory, because he he he doesn't like Sean the Dead in horror comedy. He's not a huge horror comedy fan.
SPEAKER_02I gave this the same rating as the game Shauna the Dead. I will never I will never forget what I rated Sean of the Dead.
SPEAKER_05Listen, I went lower on Sean of the Dead.
SPEAKER_03You gave it a three. Sean I thought I gave it lower. Sean the Dead would have been a five out of five for me as well. Sean of Dead, five out of five?
SPEAKER_02I don't agree with that. I like it's funny. We've been doing a lot of horror comedies on this podcast. And like I think my favorite horror comedy, which I would I would give it the comedy label, is is Dead Alive. Um I think that is a perfect like horror comedy. That's my five for horror comedies. Because like it's so fucking out of this world. All the characters are just like just character, caricatures of human beings, and they're all like overacting, but it's like on purpose. And like Peter Jackson made a perfect movie when he did uh Dead Alive. Yeah, it was good. Just to just to give you a few. Waiting for that sweet 4K to come out. What's that? Waiting for that sweet 4K to eventually come out. So am I, dude. So am I.
SPEAKER_05You should add that to the podcast. Like what do you no no no? I'm talking about like what do you think? Like if you and Shelly were talking, like Shelly goes, I think Derek, you're gonna give this a two.
SPEAKER_03Oh, like a guess.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that would be that'd be fun. That would be fun.
SPEAKER_03I I thought Derek's gonna give it a three, but three and a half, that's higher than I thought.
SPEAKER_02So well, I was I I I was almost at a four, but um, it was just I I really I had a sore spot for the betrayal part and how it like went through the movie. I want to see death metal kids who aren't being picked on all the time and kicked around. Uh, but yeah, three and a half stabs. Next up, voices from beyond. And that's where we share your guys' thought that you gave to us on social media, and I did not screenshot anything for this. So let me jump into our social medias real quick.
SPEAKER_05Shelly, he's failing. Come back, Shelly.
SPEAKER_03I know we need you. I believe there's one really handsome man that wrote a Jesus comment. Super handsome.
SPEAKER_05It can't be yours. You were on the fucking podcast.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that was a joke. So um, our first comment came off of Facebook, and it's from Brian M. Uh Brian says, When I first heard the title, I thought this would involve humping, not heavy metal. Pretty decent overall, but probably not something I'd watch again on a regular basis. I definitely recommend Studio 666 with the Foo Fighters for your music summoning demons horror comedy needs instead. He gives it three stabs. Next up also on Facebook, Matt F. He says, The wheel spun another winner, and yes, if you like Psycho Gorman, you will like this one. The kills were nice and bloody, and even hilarious. As in the do-it-over scene when the cultists didn't pull put a towel down when they beheaded the failed agent. Uh the Deathgasms makeup cracked me up, especially Dion and Giles. Ode to Peter Chris, nice. Um, can't wait to see what comes up next on the wheel is on a roll. Still not sure if I like Mimi, however, from Psycho Gorman. Still talking about Mimi. Fucking one of the worst characters ever. And then we got Roger R.
SPEAKER_05No, don't read his. He was on the podcast.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_05And if he says another five out of five, I'm gonna punch him.
SPEAKER_02No, he didn't, he did he didn't, so he didn't give us stabs or anything, but I did comment, dude. You know you're recording with us, right?
SPEAKER_05Exactly.
SPEAKER_02And he said yes, lol. Horror metals accommodation made in hell, and I'm all here for it. Deathgasm was a lot of fun. He read it. And as a bagging soundtrack, sequel is in the works. That's Roger R. Derek Wininski. And then because I know we had one on TikTok. I think my it's where my brother follows us.
SPEAKER_05Dude, I get some amazing recipes off of TikTok.
SPEAKER_03I'm on TikTok at the Roger Russell live. You never respond to any of my videos.
SPEAKER_02So yeah, you don't respond to my shit either. So we and our next submission is via text message because this person has my cell phone number, and I'm not giving it out to you guys.
SPEAKER_05I have your cell phone number.
SPEAKER_02I'm not talking to you guys, I'm talking to people listening.
SPEAKER_03If you would like Derek's cell phone number, you can DM me.
SPEAKER_02You can DM Roger. Uh, this next one comes from Jeremy W. Uh, he said, hey, just watched Deathgasm last night. OMG. This was a wild ass ride. What the fuck? Like the demons look super cool. The whole no eyes was interesting. When the two long hair guys started attacking the two demons with the dildos and the anal beads, I was on the floor laughing my ass off. Too funny. But all in all, I'd give it four stabby stabs. Might watch it again. I don't know. Uh I don't know yet. What are those movies? I might I might watch if nothing else is on. Also, it reminded me of that one movie where you guys where the guy uses the lawmower to kill all the zombies. Uh forgot the name, but you know the one. Jeremy, it's dead alive. I'm wearing the shirt right now. But uh yeah, that was Jeremy. And let me go double check Instagram that I didn't forget.
SPEAKER_05The gram.
SPEAKER_02The Instagram.
SPEAKER_03Sounds like everyone's enjoying the movie.
SPEAKER_05I feel like Instagram's a dying platform, or is it just me?
SPEAKER_02Uh I hardly check it. Like Yeah. Oh, yes. We got a faithful listener, Ray M. Ray. Ray M off of the Instagram. That's Dash Cam Ray, right? Dash Cam Ray. Everyone's that's your name now, buddy. Ray, your dash cam ray from Ray from Houston, Texas. Wear it with pride, sir. Ray is Houston. Houston, Texas. I know we were like we're not gonna give out his exact location. Yeah, Roger.
SPEAKER_036234.
SPEAKER_02We're not gonna dox him. But uh Ray says uh this was a great example of how a low budget splatter flick and I loved every minute of it. The movie strikes an awesome balance of gore, comedy, and wholesome friendship. As a death and black metal fan, the backdrop of these two genres put a big smile on my face. Four out of five stabs would definitely recommend. Also, this was a big W for Medina's everywhere since that is my last. Oh, that is my last name. He's doxing himself. Ray. Huge thanks to whoever recommended this movie. It's cool. Ray's on Instagram. Everyone follow Ray. Ray Medina83. Go follow him on Instagram. He's the man.
SPEAKER_03The answer to that question was me. Ray. I suggested this movie. And also, Ray, if you like Def Gasm, I forgot I went blank for a second. Oh, I recommend the movie The Devil's Candy. The Devil's Candy. It's came out the same year. It also uses metal and also has a very good soundtrack. Very cool.
SPEAKER_05Can't hardly wait.
SPEAKER_02Can't we wait?
SPEAKER_03That thing you do.
SPEAKER_02And yeah, that's I think that's it for voices from beyond.
SPEAKER_03Let me just double check. I didn't forget anybody. Maybe I'll request double candy and we'll recover in about two years. Two more years.
SPEAKER_02I think that's it. Next up, loose ends. And this is where any lasting thoughts we want to talk about, or if we have fun facts, I'll throw it out to you guys. I don't know if you have any fun facts or anything else you want to say.
SPEAKER_05You were telling me this morning, or you showed me this morning the the forest with the the makeup. Was it it was based on what again?
SPEAKER_03It's it's from the band uh Immortal. Immortal, yeah. Call of the Norwegian black metal. Call of the Winter Moon, 1992. They were the first ones to film a music video deep in the woods, and it's very famous. Yeah, it's very meme-y. You'll see memes. I have it playing there on my phone. Derek, have you watched this?
SPEAKER_02No, but I know of Immortal and I know of the corpse paint that they wear.
SPEAKER_03So if you want to see where they got inspiration for that part of the movie, you can catch on YouTube. Very cool.
SPEAKER_05That scene is fucking hilarious.
SPEAKER_02If you if you are intrigued by uh crazy Norwegian black metal, I would recommend a book, Lords of Chaos. Back in like the early 90s, uh there was uh a surge in Norway of black metal bands, and they were very much against the church, the Catholic Church, because in Norway, traditionally, they're Nordic gods that they prayed to, and then Catholicism came in and like what Catholics did in most countries and just butchered people and in in and put their crosses in the land and said this is a Catholic nation. So these bands from the 90s uh went around and set churches on fire, and there's a book about all this stuff, and they're they did a bunch of crazy stuff. These aren't commendable people, by the way. They did a bunch of terrible fucking shit. Uh, but uh it's a very interesting book. I would I would go check out Lords of Chaos.
SPEAKER_03There is uh in Los Angeles, we didn't go there. I went there uh on my second trip over there at the Museum of Death.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_03There is a section for black for black metal, and I believe something in that they have a section about that, about their uh like human sacrifice, stuff like that, all that all that good stuff. So uh but there's one specific story that they have featured there. That's pretty cool. But it was yeah, check it out. Museum of Death. There was not for the uh faint-hearted. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02There's there was a band called Mayhem who had a singer and his name was uh dead. He killed himself, and then Euronymus, I think he was their bass player or guitar player, came home, they were roommates, saw that he had taken a shotgun to his head, blown it off, he took a picture of it, and then used it for their next cover.
SPEAKER_05Jesus.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's pretty cool. Mayhem.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, that's look up mayhem.
SPEAKER_02Anyways, yeah, enough of the enough about Norwegian black metal. We need to wrap this up. Uh all right, so I got some fun facts.
SPEAKER_05Fun facts wait, we weren't there? Like, what were we doing?
SPEAKER_02We were just talking about fun facts for Norwegian black metal, but uh all right, so fun facts for Deathgasm. Kimberly Crossman uh said she enjoyed the script and character so much of Medina that she paid for her own flights from Los Angeles to New Zealand to work on the film. I love that. Um in early 2016, Walmart refused to sell the movie with the title Deathgasm and renamed it to a more acceptable title. Would you guys like to guess what that title is? Uh Demon Metal. Demon Metal.
SPEAKER_05Butcher at Birth.
SPEAKER_02Butcher at Birth. No, heavy metal apocalypse. It's a very Walmart move.
SPEAKER_05So I said Butcher at Birth because that was gonna be the original name until they went with Death Chasm.
SPEAKER_02Do you have a fun fact?
SPEAKER_05I do have a couple. Ooh.
SPEAKER_04You sounded so exciting.
SPEAKER_08Whatever.
SPEAKER_04Ooh!
SPEAKER_08Do you like my long legs?
SPEAKER_06Mamma!
SPEAKER_02Um, but but uh Tim Foley, who plays Vaden, was initially cast because he already had his own severed head from a previous project. So that's the guy who had his head cut off. Uh happily, he also turned out to be a solid actor, too. I thought he did pretty good. He didn't have a lot of moments, but the couple of moments he had, he uh he showed emotion, so good for him. Um Jason Lee Houghton said he took inspiration from his teenage years, in which he was a social outcast and a fan of heavy metal music. So that goes, you know. I spoke about one of my pros that I knew he was a fan, and and uh it was good to see that he was able to take a real life passion and include it in his project. So cool for Jason. Um another fun fact, this was shot in 20 days with many scenes only having one take. So one take and done, and they moved on a lot in this film. Uh another fun fact, Jason Lee Howden performed guest backing vocals on the Deathgasm theme song by New Zealand band Roger. What's the name of the New Zealand band? Bullet Belt. He he did uh backing vocals on the Deathgasm song. Oh, cool. So that's pretty pretty rad, wouldn't you say?
SPEAKER_05As he looks at his final record.
SPEAKER_02Here it is, bullet belt black banshee. And my last fun fact is Jason Houghton said the math compass attack story is based on a true story. Howden knew a kid in school with two sets of front row teeth who was fucked up, quote unquote. And some bullies stood on his King Diamond tape, leading him to attack them with a math compass. So I think that one scene I think it was Zach when they were talking about he got he got expelled from school.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what they're referencing. So yeah, those are the fun facts I have. Lisa, did you have some?
SPEAKER_05Yeah, I don't know if we covered this or not, but so the blood used in the film was sourced from the 2013 Evil Dead movie.
SPEAKER_02Oh, very cool. Did not know that.
SPEAKER_05And also researching that, the inspiration did come from the 1981 Evil Dead film, which makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Everything should.
SPEAKER_05Um, and then the other one I found which was interesting, a video game based on the franchise is currently in development featuring a retro 16-bit style.
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's kind of cool.
SPEAKER_05I thought that was pretty neat.
SPEAKER_02I'm not upset about that at all.
SPEAKER_05And that's that's all I got. That's it.
SPEAKER_03Roger, did you have anything? I oh, I said the where where to find that video. That was his fun thing. Called the Winter. Oh, that was also it is sold the soundtrack is sold out on mondotees.com. Oh, it is sold out? Not available. Not available currently.
SPEAKER_05What about discogs?
SPEAKER_03Question. It's always available there for double the price.
SPEAKER_02Is that a first pressing, original pressing? Yes. Okay. So you uh you got it. You got the you got the the coolest vinyl in the world right there in front of you. Yes. Nice. All right, that brings us to the end of Deathgasm. It is now time for us to replace Deathgasm on the wheel. And Lisa is going to be taking her besties place. I'm gonna miss it. You're gonna miss it on the Rip Deathgasm. Deathgasm coming off. Lisa's got her hand inside the big.
SPEAKER_05I have my hand inside uh Frankenstein's head.
SPEAKER_02Okay, and I have And Deathgasm coming off the wheel.
SPEAKER_05And this is a Shelly pick.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, Shelly has another, she had a film left in there? Good lord.
SPEAKER_05The others. The others.
SPEAKER_02I think that's Nicole Kidman. Yes. Um, all right. I'm gonna list off the ten movies on the wheel, and then we're gonna chant. Are you guys ready for the 10 movies?
SPEAKER_06Yes.
SPEAKER_02Alright. Alright, so our first movie is Zombie. Second film, Heart Eyes. Yeah. And then we have Chopping Mall. And then we have Hellraiser.
unknownNext.
SPEAKER_02The original or the original. And then we have Martyrs, also the original, because I know they did a fucking remake. Like I think it's on Hulu. It was like two years later they did a fucking remake. Next survey.
SPEAKER_05Oh wait, I was thinking something else then. Oh, okay. You did not put that on there. What?
SPEAKER_02How many how many movies did you get on our fucking wheel, Roger?
SPEAKER_03I was making fun.
SPEAKER_02Alright, so Rogers. Um, so our next movie is Long Legs. After that, we have Brain Damage and then Slay. And then last week we just put on Prince of Darkness. And our final film on the list for the wheel is The Others.
SPEAKER_03A lot of bangers on there.
SPEAKER_02A lot of bangers. So we're gonna save this. And you guys ready?
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_02Alright, so Wheel of Death.
SPEAKER_06Wheel of Death.
SPEAKER_08Wheel of Death. Wheel of Death.
SPEAKER_02Happy Mom! Good lord. I think that's actually uh that was a Shelly pick. And Shelly's traveling too, which sucks. Cause she's gonna miss the next episode.
SPEAKER_05Can we phone in now?
SPEAKER_02I mean, she we we'd be a satellite.
SPEAKER_05If she does, she has to do with an English accent.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yes.
SPEAKER_05Because she's in England.
SPEAKER_02England, England. But let's find out where Chopping Mall is playing at. Oh my god, I'm so fucking excited. I love this movie. The soundtrack's really good. Well, the score is really, really good too. Do we have that too?
SPEAKER_05Yep, we have it.
SPEAKER_02Of course we do.
SPEAKER_05Sorry, guys, if you hear our dogs in the background, it's feeding time and they're like letting us know.
SPEAKER_02Feeding time. Time to get your food and go to bed. It's feeding bedtime's not until 9 30. Well, they're assholes. They're going to bed early today. Whoa!
SPEAKER_05They've actually been very nice to you today.
SPEAKER_02No, no, no. I just, yeah, I was I was trying to make excuses to put animals to bed earlier. I'm so sorry. The dog's looking at me. It's gonna eat me a little bit.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, he's like, how dare you call me an asshole?
SPEAKER_02Damn.
SPEAKER_05He's like, Derek.
SPEAKER_02So Chopping Mall is available on Tubi. It's on Play-Doh TV, Sling TV. Uh, you can get it on Amazon if you have a subscription there. It might be on Shudder. It might be. I think so.
SPEAKER_03Is it on YouTube for free?

SPEAKER_01You have created a monster, and it will destroy you.
SPEAKER_02My microphone smells like me.
SPEAKER_05How do you smell? Are we recording? Yeah, we are. So how do you smell?
SPEAKER_02Uh yeah. Right now, like Sprite.
SPEAKER_03And uh drink it right from a can. You drink it from a cup of straw. No, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02No, not water.
SPEAKER_05Aqua.
SPEAKER_02Agua. Is that awkward for you?
SPEAKER_03No.
SPEAKER_02No, it's not. Yeah, that bends down. Is that better? Yes.
SPEAKER_05That sounded weird, but he said that bends down.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you just gotta bend it down a little bit. Is that your toxic vendor hat?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's Derek.
SPEAKER_05You didn't know that's worn it like a lot.
SPEAKER_02I didn't even notice it. That's like the trademark hat I'm always wearing. That's my second, actually, that's uh shout out to oh my gosh. What's the store horror something in Orlando?
SPEAKER_05Atomic Horror?
SPEAKER_02Atomic Horror, thank you. Atomic Horror.
SPEAKER_05I'll look birdie sitting next to Derek.
SPEAKER_02I bought a hat like three years ago and it got all trashed and shitty. And then last October?
SPEAKER_03That's when the hat's just right. The hat is falling apart.
SPEAKER_02When it hates, but it was gross with like sweat stains, and I washed it trying to get like the white rings off of it, and they stayed, and I was like, I'll need to get a new hat. So my wife works hard for her money, and I'm gonna enjoy the fruits of it.
SPEAKER_03The hat is it's a four-letter word. Yeah, it's sick.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's a three-letter word. S IQ. Oh. S IQ.
SPEAKER_05I thought it was S-I-C.
SPEAKER_02No, S-I-Q. Well sick. I'm making rules, so we'll say S-IQ. When I was riding here, I was I was listening to a review. Um Dead Meat. Have you ever watched any of the Dead Meat stuff on YouTube? It's pretty entertaining.
SPEAKER_05Excuse me. Can you get down?
SPEAKER_02Can you get down, Roger?
SPEAKER_05Brody.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I thought you were talking about Roger. He wants to be on the podcast. He wants to be on. He wants to be on. Him and his hairy, his his hairy self. But uh Dead Meat is a podcast, but they also have a YouTube page and they do like a kill count for like movies. Ah, okay. So they did a kill count for Deathgasm, and I just I had it on in the car listening to it, and it was pretty it's entertaining, it's good. I would highly recommend checking out Dead Meat's kill counts.
SPEAKER_03You should ask us what it is and see if we can who can come closest. Because I have no idea how many. I have no idea. That's a lot. I'd have to yeah. Okay, get down. There's a ton of people. We can price or write it.
SPEAKER_02Damn. Yeah. Go for them. Are you guys ready? Born ready.
SPEAKER_05Go lay down.
SPEAKER_02Go get them. Go get Roger. Get him. Go get him. Lay down, Roger. Roger. Lay down. Yes, sir. Get in your bed and lay down.
SPEAKER_03Let's do Recom of a Dream. Cover that. He's never seen that.
SPEAKER_02I've never seen it either. I haven't thought of it. I was a one-of-dot. Here's the thing. I there's not a lot of people I hate. I hate Jared Leto.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god, so does Elfie. Elfie fucking hate.
SPEAKER_02I fucking hate Jared.
SPEAKER_05Why do you hate him? I know we're off topic.
SPEAKER_02No, that's fine. So uh it was probably at this point it was probably 10 years ago, but he's got that stupid band 30 seconds to Mars.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And he put out a um he put out a documentary where they're trying to get their their music's rights back from the uh record label. And he just came off as a pompous douchebag. Um he was acting like it's fucking 30 seconds to mark Mars. It's not high art, dude. Settle the fuck down. Your music is not changing any fucking thing, let alone the world. Don't act like it's pure gold that you're trying to mine. I was like, go fuck yourself. So that's ever since then, I've like, dude, you can suck a dick forever. Forever. We're leaving the Jared Leto Hade in, by the way.
SPEAKER_05Oh my god.
SPEAKER_02So Jared Leto Hade stays.
SPEAKER_05Shout out to Elfie because like we've had conversations. Elf just hates like his face. So like Elfie's like, it's some of the things that she wishes death upon him is like she has me in tears laugh, and she's like, I hope like nails go in his eyelids and he tries to blink and and he like he's he swallows dick cold.
SPEAKER_02And oh my god, I'm gonna lose it. I hope I'm gonna lose my marvels.
SPEAKER_05What's what's the thing that like you can pay for people to like cameo? Like, I really want him to do a camo cameo thing. No, no, no. I really want him to do a cameo thing so all of us could pitch in and pay for it for Elf and surprise her so we can record it. Cause I think she would like put him on blast. Oh, that'd be that would be worth it.
SPEAKER_08But yeah. Who loves me? Jared.
SPEAKER_05Like, go fuck yourself, motherfucker.
SPEAKER_02Anyways, yeah. He's just he's a creep. And every like, you know, when he was doing the Joker movie, he was just doing disgusting things to his cast members. He's just he sounds like a fi a vile piece of shit.
SPEAKER_05Isn't he like doesn't he sleep with underage girls? Wasn't he accused of that recently?
SPEAKER_03You something sexual harassment. Yeah, I don't there weren't underage.
SPEAKER_02But I I think because he had that, you know, because people talked about uh he had a cult going on. So like he like jokingly had like a cult retreat, but then I think there are allegations from that retreat that he was like you know coer coercing people into sexual activities and stuff. I don't know. But regardless, uh that fucking documentary was all I needed. That guy that guy could fly a kite.
SPEAKER_05Well, I can't say anything about a cult. I mean, Shelly's our cult leader, so cult leader Shelly. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02We've been wasting enough time. Oh my god, it's only been nine, ten minutes.
SPEAKER_04Brody's all like he's not trying to bite Derek's uh leg or body.
SPEAKER_02He's like Derek. He smells success because I'm such a great golfer. He went away. He's like, kiss my eyes. What did you shoot today? Today, so we played best ball, which is between you and your partner. Best ball, it's self-explanatory, but we shot a we shot below a hundred. We shot 98. But today was worse than yesterday. Yesterday we were like 80 86. You carried the team? Uh no. Uh my buddy Alex, who works in uh purchasing with me, he was my partner for the weekend. We did like we did a little wheel of death Friday and decided who was on whose team and stuff and went random. And I ended up with uh my buddy from work you uh uh uh actually Alex recorded House. We did uh House 1984. The the one about the house.
SPEAKER_03Do you know the movie? I know you have the record. Yes. I know the movie. I know house one and house two. House two, that's right. House one was fun. House two is fun too.
SPEAKER_02But yeah, Alex recorded that episode with us, so he was at the weekend.
SPEAKER_03I want to say I saw House Two and Theaters. I'm gonna see what year that came out. I remember seeing him with my dad at some point. I don't know if I remember if it was CBR at theaters.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, George Went was in it. Yeah. Norm from Cheers.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Remember the old Ghost General guy from House 2?
SPEAKER_02Do you do either of you want to do the thing? Do a metal.
SPEAKER_05Now I'll do it because you you were struggling last week. I'm not doing metal if I'm doing it. I'm just doing it.
SPEAKER_02I'll come in at the end and go. Yeah, whatever you want, man. It's Roger's house. We're just I'm just visiting it. Peanuts. Lisa wasn't here last weekend, but your presence was felt. I can't talk. Whenever, whenever Lisa's ready to do it.
SPEAKER_05What are we doing?
SPEAKER_02Do it.
unknownI got an itch.
SPEAKER_02Itchy nose.
SPEAKER_05Scratch it. I am. Wait, do you say scratch it or do you say I have to itch my itch? Or scratch my itch.
SPEAKER_02I don't I don't think I say either of those. I don't what whatever's in the um the top of my dome is what I go with. But I don't have like a a a thing that I say when I have an itch. I'm sorry. I feel like I'm letting you down.
SPEAKER_05You are. It's a debate in this household. It is.
SPEAKER_02Itch the itch.
SPEAKER_05It's scratch the itch. Itch the itch. You have to scratch the itch. No, you have to scratch your itch. You scratch the itch.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you're not itching it.
SPEAKER_03You're scratching it. It's already itching. But I'm making my itch feel the itch by me itching it when I'm scratching it. You're itching your scratch. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Do you also itch your scratches?
SPEAKER_03I scratch my scratches.
SPEAKER_02You play with your uh wounds. Jesus.
SPEAKER_05You scratch your itch. Sorry.
SPEAKER_02I scratch my scratch. Alright. Enough of this. Let's get on into feasting fiends. Derek, are you okay? I'm fine. Are you fine?
SPEAKER_05We give you plenty of bloopers, alright?
SPEAKER_02No, this will be all fun in games. Derek is fighting exhaustion exhaustion. Exhaustion. Yeah. But yeah, I I uh yeah, let's get into feasting fiends. Are you ready? Feasting things. Wait, do you have to repeat it?
SPEAKER_05Let him repeat it. Go.
SPEAKER_02Next up, feasting fiends.
