tradition seems to have obtained throughout the fertile Crescent, right"},{"startTime":593.883,"endTime":601.771,"body":"round through Syria, down to Palestine, and including what became the increasingly distinctive culture of"},{"startTime":601.771,"endTime":609.66,"body":"the ancient Hebrews, the emphasis that the Hebrews came to place on a single relationship with religion,"},{"startTime":840.887,"endTime":848.59,"body":"modern scholars have sometimes assumed that a distinction between the two was the product Horace 1600 years before Shakespeare."},{"startTime":1073.445,"endTime":1081.522,"body":"So the obvious question to pose now perhaps is what happened when Egypt became Roman"},{"startTime":1081.522,"endTime":1087.985,"body":"and the starkly contrasted sets of cultural attitudes crashed into each other."},{"startTime":1090.445,"endTime":1093.665,"body":"The answer was extremely creative."},{"startTime":1095.035,"endTime":1102.026,"body":"Roman rule eroded both the financial support of the Egyptian temple system and the
