The events that led to the Londonderry Plantation had momentous consequences, not only for Ireland, but also for the political development of England. The far-reaching effects are still very much with us today. Professor Stevens Curl will consider the Londonderry Plantation from 1641 to the end of the nineteenth century, demonstrating how the behaviour of the King led to the alienation of the City of London and its support for Parliament, and explaining the long period of disillusion in the face of the Land Agitation and political ferment of the latter part of the 19th century.
