From World Brain to the World Wide Web
Nov 09, 2006
Gresham College
The World Wide Web has evolved into a universe of information at our finger tips. But this was not an idea born with the Internet. This lecture recounts earlier attempts to disseminate information that influenced the Web - such as the French Encyclop├ędists in the 18th century, H. G. Wells' World Brain in the 1930s, and Vannevar Bush's Memex in the 1940s.

This lecture was jointly held with the British Society for the History of Mathematics.
