"Getting to know you": how do animals recognise each other and us?

For social animals one of the major skills that must be learned is how to recognise important individuals in their social environment. An examination of the capacities for different species to recognise each other by scent, sound or sight, with focus on the evolution of face-recognition. We will also consider what key factors determine social and sexual attraction and prevent incest.
