Professor Stuart argues for a harmonious relationship between medical advance and its integration into the daily practices of everyday life. The health of a society and of science itself must ultimately depend on non-scientific values. This can only be achieved if scientific and technological advances are passed through the grid of social acceptance and creative community judgement.
