Susan Rashid Horn, has a couple of degrees in art, but after using them to find work first as a waitress, an insurance adjuster, a summer stock actor, and then as a starving artist, she decided to find a steady job in advertising. She kept at that for nearly two decades, but finally decided to return to school to earn a PhD in English—another high-paying field. Degree in hand, she did a complete about-face and taught writing at a university. When she eventually retired, she began volunteering as a refugee mentor, a reader for the blind, and a food pantry volunteer. Susan recently completed a memoir; currently she is working on a novel about three generations of a family that tells stories, but keeps secrets.
Michelle Turner is a mother and grandmother and works as an agriculture conservationist. Over the years, she has written conservation and environmental articles for various newspapers and radio shows. As a member of the Eastern Iowa Writer's Guild and The Iowa Poetry Association, Michelle has published poems in several Lyrical Iowa volumes. She particularly enjoys writing humorous poems for children. Western life poetry is also a favorite genre and she has published poems with the National Cowboy Poetry Association.
