BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

Now the Lord said to Samuel, ‘How long will you mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? Fill your horn with oil, and go. I am sending you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have provided Myself a king among his sons.’” 1 Samuel 16:1 NKJV

That was the promise that God gave to Samuel about a king that was going to be coming soon. A different king than what was anticipated. It would not be a son of Saul, it would be someone else, someone anointed by God through Samuel, and who would be the reigning king over Israel. God knew what He was doing, and He worked it all out in full accord with His timing. Bethlehem was to be the place where God was going to later send His Son to be born, to be born in Bethlehem. We sing the song at Christmas time, “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” God knows that little places can really be great places, when God determines that He’s going to do something special. It doesn’t matter how large or how small. God is God, and God is capable. So understand, Bethlehem was the place. And Jesse’s son was going to be the king.
