Dr. Samuel Perry, associate professor of sociology at the University of Oklahoma, discusses his research projects. Dr. Perry is an alumnus of Augusta University, where he majored in Communication and minored in Sociology. After graduating summa cum laude at Dallas Theological Seminary, Dr. Perry earned his master’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago and received his doctoral degree in Sociology, also from the University of Chicago.  He is the author of 100 journal articles, four books, with three more scheduled to come out soon. He and Philip S. Gorski will have The Flag and Cross; White Christian Nationalism and the Threat to American Democracy coming out April 1 from Oxford University Press. He also appears in the popular press, including Time and Newsweek, as well as CNN and The Washington Post. His research focuses on questions related to American religion and culture, as well as politics, sexuality, race, and families. Dr. Perry won an Award of Merit from Christianity Today in 2021 and the Distinguished Book Award from the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion.
