Year 1991 marked the beginning of a New India, a year that kick started a democratisation process of a new kind, one that rode the waves of Internet, Television Broadcast Networks & Mobile Telecommunications. This has shaped a new generation of youth deeply anchored in Indian values yet having global aspirations, a cohort for whom the world is a playground. The Wings podcast is an attempt to bring forth stories of these youth where they share how they see themselves and the world they inhabit, their hopes and fears, their dreams and aspirations. It's an attempt to 'discover the extraordinary in the ordinary' and is driven by a belief that ‘the future is born in the web of human conversations'.
The storytellers in the Wings Podcast are Young Indians from across socio-economic strata, from urban and semi-urban India, ones who have found their own Wings or are in the process of discovering them with an aim to take them far and wide.

Gender based roles practiced over several generations and centuries has created a society with certain structure, order and continuity. On the flip side, the “should’s & must’s” of such a society, held as non-negotiable, have unleashed dysfunctional sides of power, authority and control. In India, this has further exacerbated processes of discrimination and denial, with women, urban and rural, finding themselves on the receiving end, even in 21st Century. The courageous few, however, have discovered their voice to experience equality, empowerment, dignity and purpose. How do such voices, often bordering on activism, manifest themselves? What outcomes do they create at a personal and societal level? What is the price & payoff? How can study of history help in addressing gender inequities in today’s world?
To explore this subject and more, here’s a conversation with Nousheen Khan, a graduate in Economics from University of Delhi and a post-graduate in Human Resources from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. A voracious reader and writer, history and gender studies are her favourite genres. Nousheen also writes for her blog called 'The Silk Road Anecdotes,’ based on ancient and medieval history of the regions around the Silk Route.
