Wings
Year 1991 marked the beginning of a New India, a year that kick started a democratisation process of a new kind, one that rode the waves of Internet, Television Broadcast Networks & Mobile Telecommunications. This has shaped a new generation of youth deeply anchored in Indian values yet having global aspirations, a cohort for whom the world is a playground. The Wings podcast is an attempt to bring forth stories of these youth where they share how they see themselves and the world they inhabit, their hopes and fears, their dreams and aspirations. It's an attempt to 'discover the extraordinary in the ordinary' and is driven by a belief that ‘the future is born in the web of human conversations'.
The storytellers in the Wings Podcast are Young Indians from across socio-economic strata, from urban and semi-urban India, ones who have found their own Wings or are in the process of discovering them with an aim to take them far and wide.

S4E19: Tapasya
Raga framework in Indian Classical Music is said to be an ocean replete with mysteries & treasures. A Sangeet Saadhak (student of music) committed to a triad of Taalim (disciplined lessons), Riyaaz (diligent practice) & Adaakaari (authentic performance) gets a chance to experience these mysteries and treasures to bring them forth to their listeners. What is the relationship between Ragas and its Saadhak? What chemistry unfolds between them? What Tapasya (penance) both have to endure and what shape does it take in current times?
To explore this subject and more, here’s a conversation with Yashaswi Sirpotdar, a renowned vocalist with a Sangeet Sadhana of nearly four decades. Her melodious singing has been well received across India including the prestigious Sawai Gandharva Music Festival. She carries forward rich legacies of her Guru Smt. Padmatai Talwalkar, a doyen of Hindustani Khyal music.
This conversation is interspersed with brief impromptu recitations of Raga Des, Yaman, Miya-ki-Todi, Marwa and Bhairavi, sung live by Yashaswi.
