Well, I'm so excited about today's podcast because today we'll be talking about a topic that I have definitely been, you know, toiling with, or should I say, been going through in my mind just exactly how I would love to, you know, kind of just share with my community on just some of the different ways that I'm able to achieve certain goals right. And when I think about, you know, goal achievement or success being driven, I know that there takes me a space to be different than everyone else. Right, I have to have a desire to be different and a desire to have that dedication, that commitment, right to be, to fulfill the goals that I have. So, in that striving right, here we are. Just came back from an amazing weekend of running, of health, of fitness, with a marathon weekend down here in Atlanta, but now just really beginning to get into the groove and close out this first quarter, right? So, heading towards the end of the first quarter of the year and I'm thinking about, like, how do I mentally stay stronger? Right, I think about the fact that there's something that I need and I have to have it each and every single day, and that one thing the subject, the topic that we're going to be talking about today is having courage.
Speaker 1:Yeah, having courage right. Like, do you have the courage that it takes in order for you to reach your goals? Right? Are you? You mentally and morally strong enough right to venture, to persevere, to withstand danger, that fear or any difficulty? Right, that's the definition of courage. And I want you to, when you think about the word courage, think about some other words, right? Bravery, do you have the nerve to achieve your goals? Fearlessness right, are you going after your goals with the fearlessness that it takes sometimes in order to just get past that struggle of even your mental right? The enemy in me? Right, the mental struggle and fight that you might have going on in your mind? Do you have the guts right, like, do you have that thing that in your stomach that, hey, I really want to achieve this and guess what? I'm going to do it no matter what. The heart, the heroism right. Think about you being the hero of your own story, and in order for you to achieve your goals, you got to have courage right.
Speaker 1:It brings me to this thought about a quote that I seen by Nelson Mandela. It talked about I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. Think about that. I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear. Are we conquering our fears? Are we conquering the things that are holding us back, that won't allow for us to be come, the individuals that we desire, hope and strive to become right? Think about this.
Speaker 1:Having courage can greatly help you achieve your goals in several ways. Number one overcoming fear. Think about the fact that courage allows you to confront your fears and move past them. We talked about getting over your past right. Courage allows you to get over those things, and fear often holds people back. Right when we're talking about overcoming fear. It often holds people back from taking the necessary risks or even stepping out of their comfort zones. Right, most of us are very comfortable in being in a space that we're used to being right Like we, we know this space. It is familiar with courage. You can face these fears head on and push through obstacles that might normally otherwise impede your progress towards your goals. They've probably done that in the past past few years. You've probably had some goals, had some audacious, had some grand duos, had some moments where you were like this is going, I'm going to become better at something, but fear might have impeded your progress. Right, overcoming fear is the number one way that we help, should I say that we move forward towards our goals, but it also courage is one of those things that's gonna allow for us to achieve said goals as well.
Speaker 1:Number two taking risks. Yeah, taking risks. You gotta take risks, gotta take risks. Achieving significant goals often requires us to take calculated risks, though. Not just the risk of just doing things haphazardly, right, like doing things that just don't make sense. No, those risks need to be calculated Now. Whether it's starting a new business, pursuing a new career path, asking for a promotion. There's usually an element of uncertainty that's involved. Right, courage gives you the confidence. Let me say that again. Courage gives you the confidence to take these risks, these calculated risks, knowing that failure is a possibility, but being willing to try anyway. I'm gonna do it anyway. I'm gonna write this book anyway, I'm gonna start this business anyway, right? Yes, failure is something that could happen, but that doesn't mean that it's going to happen. It may have happened to someone else, but that doesn't mean that it's gonna happen with me. Because I'm gonna take calculated risks, I'm gonna make the risk, or I'm gonna take the risk that put me in a better position to achieve my goals. I'm gonna have courage.
Speaker 1:Number three persistence. Persistence right, like having that persistent, that determination, that dedication, that commitment, that constant movement, that moving the needle forward right, needle moving activities only that's what we should be focused on. Encourage helps you to persevere in the face of adversity. Right, like that moment where you feel like you just can't go any further. Right, courage allows for you to continue to press that threshold. Think about this achieving goals is rarely a straightforward journey, right, there's often setbacks, failures, obstacles along the way, but having that courage to keep going despite the challenges is crucial for ultimate success. What do we talk about in the past? Success equals freedom. We wanna be free overall at the end of the day. So in order for us to do it like, we have to have the type of courage that allows us to bounce back from setbacks, learn from failures and stay committed to your objectives.
Speaker 1:I mean, I often think about when I'm out running or when I'm working out, right, like the only way that I grow is if I get to a point of failure and I learn from it. The only way that I get faster is if I continue to put myself through, you know, um through times, through, matter of fact, speaking of times. So the long runs that I do, it's mainly about the time on my feet, less about the speed that I'm running, right. So think about that Right, the reps that you get, the persistence, the continuous like um beating of that drum, the continuous uh practice, rehearsal, repetitions that you take in order to become, um, better. And oftentimes every day isn't going to be perfect, but it's a growth and it's a development that we're looking for. And, again, if you're just 1% better each and every single day, that will allow for you to be transformational at the end of the year in achieving those goals. So that's number three persistence.
Speaker 1:Number four embracing change. Are you embracing change or do you? Are you embracing it or do you fight change? Right, like, uh, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm not ready to do this, I'm not ready to do that, or I can't think, get, get out of your own way. Achieving your goals requires you to just embrace change and stepping into the unknown, stepping into a place that you've never been. Like, think about the fact that this can be daunting. This can be, like I mean, truly tiring, truly exhausting, and, as change often brings uncertainty, it also brings discomfort. Right. However, having the courage again, we're going back to courage now. Having courage enables you, it allows you to embrace change more readily. Right, it allows you to adapt to the new circumstances and seize opportunities that arise as you progress towards your goals.
Speaker 1:That's what we're looking for. We're looking to reach those goals. We have goals that are set, whether they're short or long-term goals, and we want to reach those, whether it's personal or professional, right, but the only way that we reach the goals that we have set is that we must embrace change. We must continue to grow. I love it. I had a conversation with my buddy E and his wife Natalie, and he was talking about, you know, we have to embrace change. We have to grow or decay. We either grow or we decay, right? So, if you're not growing, your decaying. Let's continue to grow, let's continue to take on change.
Speaker 1:That's number four. Number five inspiring others. Now, you know, you know, you know I love this, right, but demonstrating courage, it can inspire others to do the same. I'm, I'm telling you that's what this podcast has done for me, that's what others have, you know, kind of spoken up on social media, done different posts and whatnot. It inspires others, but it also inspires you, right, just demonstrating that courage, right, To do the same. Now, when you boldly pursue your goals, despite the odds, by the way, you become a role model for those around you. One of my goals is to be an example. I want to be a good example to not only my family but also the community that I serve. Right, I want to be a role model. I want to take on the responsibility of my life being for the lives of others, those folks that are watching, those folks that are that are inspired by what things that I do, even against the odds.
Speaker 1:Think about how your actions can motivate others to overcome their own fears and pursue their own aspirations with determination and resilience, like let's just sit back and think about that individual that started their own business, that, despite the odds you know everyone wasn't doing it, it wasn't, you know, glitz and glamour it, it didn't look but, man, wow, how successful they've become just by putting that hard work, that determination, that resilience together that allows for them to now be impactful to so many, to inspire, to encourage and allow for others to take on the responsibility of being a part of their journey as well. It's a journey. This journey called life is one of those things that we have to, you know, kind of really just take in, take a hold of and enjoy, and recognizing that with the courage that we display, we are inspiring others to do the same. That's number five. Number six building confidence. Oh, you know it. You know it. You know what I'm gonna say about confidence. Shout out to a confidence apparel, a inhale confidence, ex-held doubt. Shout out to Robin and Norman. I mean, I'm talking about building confidence. Courage is closely linked to self-confidence, right, and the more you demonstrate courage by just taking action, facing challenges, you build confidence in your abilities.
Speaker 1:Now, if you don't know, I'm running Boston. Okay, I'm gonna just go out there and tell you. We're five weeks away from the Boston Marathon and I'm excited about this opportunity, right. But the way that I built confidence in order to achieve this goal of running a marathon is by practicing Right, is by putting in the reps. And what am I doing? Inspiring others. What am I doing? Embracing change? My body is going through a change. I'm looking for that change, right to happen. Think about the fact that I'm facing challenges that I have decided to take on. Right. You build confidence in your abilities. Man, if I can do this, I could do that. I've done this before, so I know that I can show up on race day and be well prepared. That's the reason we practice hard. That's the reason we give full effort during the game. That's the reason we take the time each and every single day to just be a little bit better, right. All we're asking for is 1%, not asking you to be a hundred percent better each and every single day. Just 1% better, right.
Speaker 1:Taking action, facing challenges, building confidence in your abilities right, let's, let's take accountability for self right now and Build confidence in the way that we're mother and fathering, sistering, brothering, right, like the way that we're a spouse, the way that we're partner, partnering with different individuals, different groups, different communities. Think about that, right. Are you building confidence in that community? Are you building confidence in that relationship? Are you building confidence at that job? Right, or that skill? Think about it. You got to take action, face challenges and build confidence in your abilities.
Speaker 1:Think about how this increased confidence in turns fuels the determination that you have to continue to strive towards your goals. Right, man doing some yoga the other day? Right, and a little bit off balance. But the more I do it, the more I take action, the more I continue to be embarrassed by me not having the type of balance that I need. Right, but just do it anyway. It fuels me and it prepares me and it builds up strength in areas that will allow for me to create a positive cycle of Achievement.
Speaker 1:Right, striving towards my goals, continuously fueling again that determination. Right, like we are striving for greatness, we're striving to be the best versions of ourselves. The only way we could do that is by building confidence. Again, we talk about it. Inhale confidence, exhale doubt, shout out to everybody that's out there that recognizes that building confidence, not only in yourself but also in others, is so very important. Right, shout out to all the parents out there that are building confidence in their kiddos. Right, and allowing them. I just learned this the other day Instead of me telling my child how great of a job I think that they're doing, I ask them how do you feel about the job that you're doing? Right? Did you give it your all? Could you have done better? And if you did, that's all that matters. If you didn't, that's what matters. You need to recognize that self-recognition allows for us to, overall, have the confidence and the courage that we need.
Speaker 1:Now, again, let me go back over this now. So we talked about these six things and I kinda really wanna stay in this mental mindset moment of encouragement towards achieving our goals. Right, but number one overcoming fear. Number two taking risk. Number three persistence. Number four embracing change. Number five inspiring others. And number six continuously, continuously building confidence.
Speaker 1:Again, ladies and gentlemen, it takes us the time to take action and be intentional with our actions, with our conversations, with our thoughts, with our responses. Right, and overall, having courage empowers you to confront obstacles, take risk and persist in the pursuit of your goals. Think about this, and it enables you to step outside of your comfort zone, embrace change and inspires others to do the same. So by cultivating courage, you can greatly enhance your chances of success in achieving your aspirations.
