All right, all right, all right. So here we are. We're back with our follow up, follow up, follow up.
Speaker 1:Man, we talked about courage last week. Courage is like being courageous. Having the courage is something that you definitely have to do, especially when talking about, you know, achieving your goals, and you know we talked about several ways, and one of them was overcoming fear. Now I want to dive into overcoming fear, because overcoming fear is a common challenge, but there's, like so many effective strategies that we can that we can, should I say, do in order to really allow for us to be successful not only managing our fears, but also, like, in order for us to get over, get through and again overcoming said fears. Now I want to drop a I am real quick, so I am for the week is I am allowed to avoid people who have negative impact on my mental health. Think about the fact that you have control of you, your emotions, how you act, how you respond right, how you react right, how you think you have control over you. So one of the things that you want to consistently remind yourself is that you're allowed. Give yourself right, the freedom and the allowance to avoid people who have a negative impact on your mental health. Right? If you already know that said person is going to come into your life or come into your day or get on the phone with you and just completely derail or, you know, kidnap or just take your joy, then maybe you need to avoid those conversations, maybe you need to avoid the individuals that are, you know, kind of having that impact on you. Okay, once again, I am, I am allowed to avoid people who have negative impact on my mental health.
Speaker 1:Now, next up, I want to kind of go into and really just talk about fear for a quick second and think about the fact that fear I have often heard being said that fear is false evidence appearing real. Right, it's something that you've made up in your mind. It's something that you've created, something that either you created in your mind or it was created based on your environment, based on something that you've seen and you allowed for it to be attached to your psyche, attached to the way that you go about. It's a trigger, so to speak, of you know, remembrance of how something might have happened. Right, but how do we reach our goals? How do we, overall, achieve, you know, the ability to reach your goals, achieve right the goals that we have set? A lot of times we have to overcome the fear that we have in our self.
Speaker 1:Now, last week, I talked about courage, and I talked about how courage allows you to confront your fears and move past them. Right, and fear often holds people back from taking the necessary risks or stepping out of their comfort zones. And with courage, you can face your fears head on, push through them, obstacles that might otherwise truly impede your progress towards your goal. But this week, right here, I want to talk specifically about overcoming fear. We got to achieve these goals, we got to achieve the areas of development that we wish to, and there's a few ways and a few strategies that I believe are truly helpful in you overcoming whatever fears that you might have. Right.
Speaker 1:Number one Identifying and acknowledging your fears. Right, identifying and acknowledging your fears. Just like in any other meeting, when they talk about something that you need to overcome or something that you gotta go over, you gotta acknowledge it. You gotta identify it. That's the reason why when you ever go see a professional, a therapist or you know, and you speak to them about you know, hey, what's going on in you, with you currently, they always go back to your past. Right, they always wanna go back to your past because it allows for you to identify that moment that may be triggering you currently in your present state, right, and taking you back to a space of discomfort, of unhealthy aspect, right. The first step of overcoming fear again is to identify what are you afraid of and acknowledge it. Right, be honest with yourself about your fears and the reason that you have those fears. Right, the reasons behind them. Right, understanding the source of your fear, it can help you address it more effectively. Again, if we're looking to be better today than we were yesterday, then we have to be effective, we have to be efficient, we have to address those things that we may not have ever tapped into. But understanding those sources of your fear can help you address it so much more effectively. So that's number one identifying and acknowledging your fear. Number two educate yourself. That is the nutman. I almost wanna say that's number one, right, but no, you're right, we gotta identify, we gotta acknowledge it. Right, but then educate yourself. Right.
Speaker 1:What are some ways? Whether it's on, whether it's on YouTube, podcast, whatever it might be about the subject or about the point of reference, right, like, educate yourself on what it is going on, because sometimes fear stems from ignorance or misunderstanding, right. Have you ever had a conversation or a disagreement and you were feeling one way and you truly didn't understand why this other person was doing such and so with you or to you or whatever? But like there was ignorance on both sides? Right, there was ignorance on what purpose they may have had in coming at you in whatever way, right, but also there was a misunderstanding, because they were thinking one way and you were thinking a completely opposite. So two different misunderstandings, right. Causes for that fear, causes for that disagreement, causes for those arguments, those negative impacts to happen, especially when you talk about the mental health aspect, right? So think about the fact that sometimes fear. This is the reason why we gotta educate ourselves, because sometimes fear stems from ignorance or misunderstanding.
Speaker 1:Educating yourself about the object of your fear can help, like it can help you take away right, demystify right and reduce the anxiety that you may have built up about this fear. Now, whether it's through again reading research, seeking advice from other experts, gaining knowledge about what you fear. Think about the fact that as you gain this knowledge, it can empower you to confront it more confidently. Right, we're talking about confidence. Right, inhale confidence, exhale doubt, go at it head on. Right, have that courage to be able to get things done, even when you're afraid to right. Educating yourself allows for you to reduce that anxiety. It allows for you to gain more and more understanding and not be misunderstood when it comes to that thing that you may be afraid of doing. Right.
Speaker 1:Some people may be afraid of success. Like. Think about that. Right, are you afraid of achieving your goals? And if you are, are you identifying and acknowledging why you're afraid of that? Are you educating yourself what to do with said success? Right, and are you number three, taking small steps towards achieving, overcoming and getting through those fears? Think about this instead of you trying to tackle all of your fear all at once. Break it down into smaller, manageable steps right, we talk about that in different goals setting. Right, but gradually, just expose yourself to the source of your fear in incremental stages, starting with less intimidating situations. Right, and gradually working your way up to be confident, to be courageous, to be able to face those fears right, head on and to overcome any fears that you may have.
Speaker 1:Think about this gradual approach. It can help desensitize you to the fear and build your confidence over time. Again, it's reps taking small steps. They're reps. If I'm just grabbing a mic and saying hello, it's a rep. Right, if I'm grabbing the mic now saying hello, this is my name, it's another rep. If I'm grabbing the mic and saying hello, this is my name, this is where we are and I'm happy to see everybody. I'm gaining more confidence hearing myself speak these things right In areas that I may have had fear or anxiety in.
Speaker 1:Right, oftentimes I mean public speaking. That is something that a lot of people have a hard time overcoming. Right, that fear, but having the confidence it takes gradual time of you just continuously putting the work in in order to become better again, better today than we were yesterday. So again, number three taking small steps. Again, let's not tackle it all at once. Take small steps. Break it down smaller, manageable steps.
Speaker 1:Number four practice relaxation techniques. Yes, yes, home, right. Practice those moments to where you could just take the time to just sit back and just kind of think about, like, how do I gather my breath, how do I gather my thoughts? Right, when I'm full of anxiety of something that's about to happen? I still get butterflies in my stomach before any event. Right, whether I'm hosting, whether I'm performing, whatever the case may be, right, even if it's a fashion show. Right To go out there on stage in front of all these eyes on you, right, what am I doing? Or how do I get over those fears? I practice relaxation techniques. Right Again, learning different relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, progressive muscle relaxation, can help you calm your mind and body when facing fear-induced situations.
Speaker 1:Think about the fact that these techniques can help reduce feelings of anxiety and just truly, truly, truly make it easier to confront your fears with clear and focused mindset. We're talking about mental health here. We're talking about mental toughness, sharpness. We're talking about being able to do things that you've never done before. How do you tackle those anxieties? How do you confront your fears? You do that with a clear and focused mindset. So that's number four Once again, practicing those relaxation techniques. Again, you can find those things. Trust me, I've done. I just got into yoga and I'm super excited. I'm gonna go test out this new yoga place around in my neighborhood. But just trying these different things putting myself in uncomfortable situations right, or different situations, or changing up my environment allows for me to be so much better when I'm faced with a situation that I normally wouldn't have been prepared for. But it's because of again, number four, practicing those relaxation techniques. It's key.
Speaker 1:Number five challenging negative thoughts. Ooh, here we go, here we go. Let's challenge them. Let's get it. Fear is often fueled by negative thoughts and beliefs. Think about that. Fear is often fueled by negative thoughts and beliefs. I'm gonna say that one more time for the folks way out in the back Fear is often fueled by negative thoughts and beliefs.
Speaker 1:Challenge these negative thoughts by questioning their validity, replacing them with more realistic, positive affirmations. That's why we start off with the I am right. For example, instead of thinking I can't do this, reframe, shout out to Jada, reframe it, as I can learn and grow from this experience? Are you ready to learn and grow? Are you ready to develop? Are you ready to go to a new height, new level? Right, you gotta challenge those negative thoughts. Those negative thoughts again can hold you back and keep you buried, like keep a barrier from the areas that you're looking to get through right. So you gotta face those fears. You have to overcome them. You have to get through it and you do that through building confidence, each and every single time, by speaking positivity, reframing your thought process from an I can't do to an I can't do. All right, we no longer say try. Shout out to my boy Fletch hey, cousin, big cousin, he told me this couple of years ago. He said we're removing try out of our vocabulary because we're doing like we're either gonna do it or we're not gonna do it. We're not gonna try, we're gonna do it or we're not gonna do it. So again, challenge those negative thoughts. That's number five.
Speaker 1:Number six visualizing success. Think about the fact that when you visualize the success that you desire to have, the achievements, the goals that you, the body that you wanna look, whoo, talking about it, hey, I got some new goals. I got some new visual goals, even for myself. When it comes to this health and fitness aspect, I wanna reap the benefits of looking better than I do currently. Right, I wanna again be the example. So visualization is a powerful tool that we can use to overcome the fear. Again, it might even be a fear of success, but visualize yourself as successful as being free, and take time to visualize it, like you successfully confronting and overcoming your fear. Imagine yourself feeling calm, confident and in control as you face the object of your fear. Visualizing success can help rewire your brain and build your belief in your ability to overcome so many of the challenges that we may face. Okay, so please, once again, visualizing success. That's number six.
Speaker 1:Number seven seeking support. Now, this right here is tough for a lot of people, especially like those strong, those independent, those folks that feel like, hey, I maybe not know it all, but you know enough right about things. Seek support, get in a community, find a group that you're allowed to be comfortable with. Right that gives you the ability to relax. Don't hesitate to reach out to friends, family or even a therapist for that support. Right, mental, professional help is so amazing and they can open up doors. They can help you through so many things, but like, seeking that support.
Speaker 1:Are you seeking that support or are you thinking that, hey, you can just handle it all by yourself, I can just get it done all by myself. Is that really the case? Are you really believing that you could just do it all? I mean you can do a lot but, like, sometimes we need that support of others. I mean talking about your fears with someone that, especially someone you trust. It can help you alleviate the feelings of isolation, provide you with valuable perspectives and encouragement.
Speaker 1:Think about how a mental health professional, a therapist, can also offer that professional guidance and strategies. This is their job, this is what they do, right? This is their focus. This is what they went to school for, right? Like? They've gained all of this knowledge, they did their research to help you overcome your specific fears. So think about the fact that these are strategies that you may not have heard of, may not have known, and that they can apply or be applied in your everyday life again, whether you have personal fears or professional fears.
Speaker 1:Man, I want to be a CEO, but I don't think I can handle that level of leadership. Well, you don't know until you seek out guidance on that right, when you gain more information about what the job or what the position entails. Right, what does leading look like? We all are leading somebody either down the right path or the wrong path. Right, a lot of times we may not believe that because we're not intentionally speaking leadership you've got to recognize that there's folks watching you and there may be a fear even in that. Right, but we got to overcome these fears because a lot of times, like you don't have control of everything else around you, but what you do have control of is you. You have control of your mind, you have control of your actions, your reactions, and you got to gain back control of those emotions, those feelings, right, that you may have.
Speaker 1:And then, lastly I'm going to land this plane right here with you know, just truly practicing self-compassion Like. Think about the fact that you have to have self-compassion, being kind to yourself as you confront your fears. Acknowledge that it's natural to feel afraid and that courage isn't the absence of fear but the willingness to act in spite of it. Once again, treat yourself with compassion and patience as you work towards overcoming your fears. Now, I truly believe that by applying these strategies consistently and persistently, you can gradually overcome your fears and reclaim control over your life and achieve those goals that you have set. Remember that overcoming fear is a process and it's okay to progress at your pace. Remember I say it your race, your pace. With time and effort, you can build the courage and resilience needed to face your fears head on and live more fully. Be free, be successful. Holla Black at your boy.
