Welcome And A Surprise Guest
Speaker 3Hi, and welcome to my Z Mikelson Travel Podcast, a ZMax Travel Radio production presented by Collage Travel Media Network. This is your space for inspiration, confidence in travel, and a little bit of luxury. So whether you're traveling across the world or simply dreaming about your next escape, I hope we can help guide you. And of course, I'm Z Mikelson. I'm a travel advisor, a media host, and an advocate for all those who love to travel and who refuse to wait to see the world. But coming up in this episode, I have a little surprise for you
We're gonna take a little break from our solo travel episodes because I brought in today Jay Lawrence. He's been doing some world traveling, and we wanna hear all about his latest trip. Where'd you go, Jay?
Speaker 2Well, the thing started with the Panama Canal. That was the issue. We can go through the Panama Canal. Now, I know a lot of people are doing Panama Canal, but they go in one, and they turn around and come back the same way.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2But what we were on was a repositioning of a ship from Miami to Los Angeles.
SpeakerAnd who were you on?
Speaker 2Virgin.
SpeakerYou were on Virgin Voyages?
Speaker 2Virgin, and we were on the ship called the Brilliant Lady.
SpeakerOh, yes, the Brilliant Lady.
Speaker 2Yeah, so this was gonna be a 17-day cruise, but again, the first thing out was the Panama Canal.
Getting To The Miami Cruise Port
SpeakerSo where did you leave out of?
Speaker 2Miami.
SpeakerYou left out of Miami?
Speaker 2Yeah. I hope C- uh, Cape Canaveral or Canaveral gets more ships because it's, it's like heck to get into Miami.
SpeakerYes. You
Speaker 2know- Did,
Speakerdid you take the Brightline down or you took a car?
Speaker 2We rented a car-
SpeakerOkay
Speaker 2in our, in our Clermont location- Great and dropped it off at the Avis lot in Miami.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2And the great thing was Avis did, give a shuttle service to the port-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2from there. But y- they had two trucks leaving, two buses, and they were all full. And so a- another travel agent-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2who was with us, you know, he stood out. He, you know- just the way he was talking, I knew. So I started talking to him. We, we gathered together eight people, got in a taxi, and got to, got to the port.
SpeakerThat's nice.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah.
SpeakerOkay.
Speaker 2And friendly people, all friendly people. Well, that's good. We weren't... He was going on, on our, my cruise.
SpeakerOh, he was gonna be on your cruise?
Speaker 2Yeah. The other k- the other kids were going on a Carnival cruise.
SpeakerOh, so they were going on a different ship line.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerOkay, so you boarded the Virgin Voyages, the Brilliant Lady, down in Miami, and I hear that, that, their port is really beautiful lately. They've really updated
Speaker 2it. Well, they're working on it, yeah, a lot of construction.
SpeakerThey're still
Speaker 2working
Speakeron it,
Speaker 2okay. And yeah, the, the, at least the taxi driver knew where to go. That was, that was one of the issues, yeah. Okay. And so Brilliant Lady is a large ship. It, well- It's, it's
Speakera decent
Speaker 2size ship it's, it has 2,700 people, uh, capacity.
SpeakerRight,
Speaker 2that's not considered
Speakerlarge.
Speaker 2Yeah, but it's, okay- That's
Speakerconsidered medium.
Speaker 2Okay. Yeah. Well, it was perfect. Right. Okay, and Brilliant Lady, and Virgin-
SpeakerMm-hmm
Speaker 2is childless
SpeakerRight, and- You have to- nobody under 18 was allowed
Speaker 2yeah, and there was certainly no one under, uh, 18 or, you know, it was all-
SpeakerIt's all adults
Speaker 2all adults. Yes. Yeah, yeah.
SpeakerAn adult only ship.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm. Yeah, and that was, that was comfortable. That was comfortable.
SpeakerRight, and it's, it's an easy navigable ship where you can get around pretty easy. Y- So you got on the ship and you guys set sail out of Miami. They, that was a beautiful sailing. I'm sure they
Speaker 2always- Oh, yeah set sail right around
Speaker5:00-ish sunset.
Speaker 2Yep. Oh yeah, sunset, yeah. Got a, yeah, and, I think we were two days of on sailing right out of Miami.
Panama Canal Excursion By Train
SpeakerOkay, so you went- You know? from Miami. Yeah, and, and- Did you land at any other ports before you got to, uh, Panama Canal?
Speaker 2The first port we went to was in Colombia.
SpeakerOh, Colombia.
Speaker 2And then back to Colón, Panama.
SpeakerMm-hmm.
Speaker 2Um, so we did one excursion in Colón- Okay or Colombia.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2And, uh, and then got back on the ship in the Panama Canal. So the, the big excursion for us around the Panama Canal off the ship-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2was we took a bus tour, and there's a train that goes from one side of Panama to the other.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2And so we got that. The bus took us to the area, so we drove over the Panama Canal in one of the bridges, a new bridge- How cool that's there.
SpeakerHow very
Speaker 2cool. So we could see both of the new and the old.
SpeakerRight. A lot of expats move to Panama-
Speaker 2Yes
Speakerbelieve it or not, because they use the American dollar.
Speaker 2Yes. Yes.
SpeakerYes.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm. And so that, to me, that was the best shot of the whole trip- was seeing both of those at one- Both sides yeah, both sides. So then we went to the visitor center for the new canal, um, locks.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2Saw that. Got on the train, rode across Panama.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2All the way across. Now, that's one of the oldest railroads in the country.
SpeakerI believe it.
Speaker 2Uh, because that's the way they used to transport the gold back in the day.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2You know? So then finally the French came in and tried to build a canal, and that didn't work.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2And so then the Americans came in, what, early- Teddy
SpeakerRoosevelt
Speaker 2Roosevelt, and-
SpeakerMm-hmm
Speaker 2and the rest is history.
SpeakerSo now you've been on the ship for how many days before you got to the canal?
Speaker 2Three.
SpeakerThree days?
Speaker 2Yeah.
Virgin Dining Highlights And Test Kitchen
SpeakerSo what was your experience like on the ship? How was the food? How was the activities? What did you do?
Speaker 2Oh, that's the exciting thing.
SpeakerOkay.
Speaker 2Th- there are five restaurants on, on Virgin.
SpeakerAnd you can eat at all of them.
Speaker 2Well, you can eat at all of them. They're all
Speakerincluded.
Speaker 2And, and the thing is- as my wife says, you know, on some cruise ships you get signed to a table, and you have to sit at the same table all the time.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2This way you've got five different restaurants. I think there's six, but I got five. I don't know.
SpeakerThere, there's quite a few.
Speaker 2Uh, but so you can... One's a steak place, one's Italian, one's Mexican.
SpeakerMm-hmm.
Speaker 2Um, uh, oh, and then the, the fun one, I wanted to get to this, it's called the Test Kitchen.
SpeakerOh, I've been at the Test Kitchen. Yeah? Yeah. Yeah. So what did you do at the Test Kitchen?
Speaker 2Well, w- uh, we, we kinda goofed in a way.
SpeakerHow'd
Speaker 2you goof? Because they... Well, on a 15-day cruise, or 17 that we were on, they have three different menus.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2ABC menu. Right. Well, we actually booked it BB. Oh. We didn't realize-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2so-
SpeakerSo you wound up with the same thing twice.
Speaker 2Right, twice. And then the third time we got the the C menu I think it was. But it's
Speakerpretty interesting-
Speaker 2Oh, yeah. Yeah
Speakerbecause of how they put together these entrees that they're testing.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerAnd, and-
Speaker 2Very unique
Speakerit was very unique. One of the items that I had I couldn't eat because I just couldn't bear it, but there was some other stuff that was really good.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerSo tell me el- tell me what else you did.
Speaker 2Well, the Razzle Dazzle, that was a, a, a- Ooh great restaurant. Yeah.
SpeakerDid you have the cookies and milk for dessert?
Speaker 2No.
SpeakerOh.
Speaker 2I think I missed that.
SpeakerOh, gosh
Speaker 2I did ask for ice cream once, and they had ice cream.
SpeakerThat they do.
Speaker 2Yeah. Um, the, the Extra Virgin-
SpeakerMm-hmm
Speaker 2is Italian.
SpeakerThe Italian.
Speaker 2Oh, that was very, very good.
SpeakerWas that Red Night, where everybody had to wear red?
Speaker 2Well, that wasn't R- Red Night. Mm-hmm. The, the thing was, uh, being a 17-day cruise, they put it almost to the- Right end of the cruise.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2So, um, uh-
SpeakerSo you did the Italian restaurant?
Speaker 2At, yeah. And Pink- You
Speakerdid Razzle Dazzle's
Speaker 2Pink, Pink restaurant with bold flavors- Pink with a Mexican flavor. Right, Pink
SpeakerAgave or
Speaker 2something it was called. Yeah,
SpeakerPink
Speaker 2Agave. Mm-hmm. Gumbe is- Uh-huh is, is kinda like a, uh, an hibachi grill- Was
Speakerthat the Korean barbecue?
Speaker 2Yeah. Mm-hmm. Korean barbecue.
SpeakerI could not get into the Korean barbecue to save our lives.
Speaker 2Yeah?
SpeakerBecause it was so booked.
Speaker 2Yeah?
SpeakerHow was it?
Speaker 2We, we did it one and done, and that was it.
SpeakerYou didn't need it- Yeah you
Speaker 2didn't
Speakerneed it again?
Speaker 2Yeah. The best thing was our appetizers, they took'em away from us and served us a whole bunch of other stuff that we, uh, you know, it's so...
SpeakerAnd again, it's all included in Virgin.
Speaker 2Right.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Right. And then The Wave is, was the- to me, the best.
SpeakerYes.
Speaker 2Prime, prime rib.
SpeakerMy husband was cutting it with his fork.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerIt was so tender.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerDid you have the- Oh, yeah the clam chowder?
Speaker 2N- I believe I did. I believe- When
Speakerthey came over and poured it into your-
Speaker 2Yes, yeah
Speakeryeah.
Speaker 2Mm. Clam chowder and, and then, uh, Baked Alaska for dessert.
SpeakerYes.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2And it's, first night I had to have two Baked Alaskas. This was too good to pass up. So yeah, so i- it makes... You gotta have a reservation for the restaurant, more than likely.
SpeakerYeah, because there, there are 2,600 passengers on board. Right. And it's a good idea to have reservations.
Speaker 2Right, right.
SpeakerYou know, you don't have to-
Speaker 2But-
Speakerbut- Yeah it's a good idea to have.
Speaker 2Yeah. Mm. One night we got back from an excursion later than our reservation.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2W- we walked in, said,"Hey, we're late."
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2They certainly made room for us, and-
SpeakerThat's one thing about Virgin, their customer service is excellent.
Speaker 2Oh, everybody, the whole crew.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2The whole... There were two, ladies who were servers- Right for us.
SpeakerMm-hmm.
Speaker 2We wanted to bring them home with us.
SpeakerThe one server we had the first night on our trip-
Speaker 2Yeah
Speakershe was at a different restaurant three nights later.
Speaker 2Uh-huh.
SpeakerShe knew who we were.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerAmazing.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYes. Amazing.
Speaker 2Yes.
Cabin Comfort And Balcony Hammock
SpeakerSo Virgin Voyages is excellent, easy navigable ship. 2,600 passengers, even though you said it was large, is not considered a large ship. Yeah. That's considered a medium-sized ship. How was your cabin?
Speaker 2Well, we booked, uh, an extra large-
SpeakerYes, an extra large sea, sea view or
Speaker 2whatever it's called yeah, yeah. Um-
SpeakerThat's what we had
Speaker 2uh, it, that was comfortable. Yeah. Nice closet space.
SpeakerYep.
Speaker 2Best bathroom on a ship I've ever had. Yes,
Speakerthe bathrooms are very
Speaker 2good. Shower and toilet area.
SpeakerRight, and you can fit into the showers.
Speaker 2Yes, yes. That was, that was the best part. Um, yeah, of course, we had a balcony, which we- Right sat on a couple of times.
SpeakerDid you sit in the little hammock?
Speaker 2And, or, couple of times. My wife actually went to sleep in it one night. Oh,
Speakermy husband- One
Speaker 2day slept
Speakerin it. Mm-hmm.
Speaker 2Yeah,
Speakeryeah. Yeah, he was sitting on the, on the balcony in the hammock, and he was out cold, so apparently it's very comfortable.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerI, I didn't chance it.
Speaker 2Yeah. I tried it once, but I w- I didn't... I, I, I remember a hammock where you used to lay down.
SpeakerAnd you can open them up to lay down.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2But yeah. You
Speakerjust have to figure it out.
Speaker 2I didn't buy... And you can buy them on the ship- Mm-hmm of course, takes all.
SpeakerSo you had a nice cabin. You had excellent food.
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerUm, you're still traveling towards the Panama Canal, where you did a lot of stuff on.
Speaker 2Yeah,
Speakernow I got a question for you. Did you do the ice cream-
Speaker 2Yeah
Speakeron board?
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerLick Me Till I Scream.
Speaker 2Lick Me Till I Scream, yeah, yeah. Was-
SpeakerMy husband and I had to go there every day. Really? It
Speaker 2was
Speakerdelicious.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Yeah. Well, oh, yeah, we, imbibed in the drink package too. So, you know, we had a quota on our drinks, so.
SpeakerRight.
Wristband Tech Drinks And Ice Cream
Speaker 2But it was to be comfortable. Oh, and the other thing was the, uh, identification.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2The little bracelet-
SpeakerYep
Speaker 2which is little, a little chip.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2I think the next time they're gonna implant it in our forehead.
SpeakerWho knows?
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYou know what happened to mine.
Speaker 2What's that?
SpeakerWell, my bracelet had our names on it.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYou know? Yours had your names on it. Well, when I went out into the ocean, I was hit by a wave. The bracelet went flying- Oh, no and I lost it.
Speaker 2Oh, no.
SpeakerSo when I went back to the ship, I s- you know, I was in the water, and they went,"No problem," so they gave me another one, and on the bracelet instead of my name it said,"Naughty."
Speaker 2Wri- your name was written on your bracelet? Well, mine wasn't. You must have had a custom
Speakerone. I'm special.
Speaker 2Yeah. Yeah. Um, and, and then all the servers, the, the technology on the board. Mm-hmm. I mean, when they ordered something, you know, you click, they click that little tab.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2Your picture showed up.
SpeakerOh, yeah.
Speaker 2So they knew who you were. They
Speakerknew who you were.
Speaker 2And,
Speakeruh- Yeah, the technology is, is excellent.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerThe service was fabulous.
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerUh, the food was delicious.
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerUm, I did not try their pizza. They had a little pizza parlor. Oh,
Speaker 2oh. Did you have
Speakerit?
Speaker 2Did you? Oh, we did that three times.
SpeakerOh, cool.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Oh, and, and they played Italian music w- out there. We sat outside while we ate. It was kinda shady, you know? So, oh, yours was... Mine is half that size. Half that size.
SpeakerI'm just showing Jay my little bracelet. It says feeling naughty.
Speaker 2Yeah. And
Speakerit has a little anchor on the end. Yeah. That's how they held on to it.
Speaker 2That's cool.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2That is cool.
SpeakerSo-
Speaker 2But how did they get you, how did they get you... How, you know, you're supposed to identify yourself coming back to the ship.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2So, what did, what did, what did you have to go through to get-
SpeakerThey took, they took my picture and I matched up with this-
Speaker 2Oh
Speakerpassenger. Okay.
Speaker 2So that
Speakerwas not a problem.
Speaker 2Yeah, yeah. But I mean, I didn't,'cause they go through... They wanna make sure everybody gets back on the ship.
SpeakerRight. Right. So you didn't go to this, you didn't go to their island or anything like that. No, they
Speaker 2have no island.
SpeakerYou just, you kept traveling through. Well, they, they go to Bimini.
Speaker 2Oh.
SpeakerBut, um-
Speaker 2But this wasn't one of those. We had three or four other, uh, excursion stops.
SpeakerOkay, so now you went through the canal.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYou've gone through the canal, and where did you go after that?
Speaker 2Uh, went to, went to LA. But don't ask me, I forgot the, uh, let's see if I- So you
Speakermust have gone somewhere else. You're only, you know,'cause the canal took how long to get through?
Speaker 2It took about a day. Eight hours?
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Oh, no, a day, uh, pretty much. I mean, we got there at 7:30 in the morning.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2Got into the canal probably by 8:00-ish. Right,
Speakerright.
Speaker 2And then by the time you get out on the Pacific side-
SpeakerOther side.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm yeah, you know, it's, I think it was like 2:00 or 3:00, something like that. Okay. It took
Speakerabout eight hours.
Speaker 2Yeah. And you know the fun thing about, um, uh, uh, Virgin?
SpeakerWhat?
Speaker 2We celebrated. We, we had champagne.
SpeakerOh, yeah. Oh,
Speaker 2yeah.
SpeakerOh, yeah. I had champagne when we were taking off from Miami.
Speaker 2Uh-huh.
SpeakerYou had the little thing where they come right to you and give you champagne.
Speaker 2Uh-huh. Uh- Did
Speakeryou go to the aft deck where you can order tapas?
Speaker 2Oh, yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah.
Shows Comedy And Onboard Activities
SpeakerThey take good care of you, and the food is excellent. Did you do any of the entertainment on board?
Speaker 2Thank you. I was going to mention that. Great. It was phenomenal.
SpeakerYep.
Speaker 2It was phenomenal. Uh, and th- and they had one great show was called The Red, I think.
SpeakerMm-hmm. It
Speaker 2was called... But it was the story of Richard Branson. Richard Branson, the ma- guy that put- Right, the guy that put it together
Speakerthe
Speaker 2thing together. Yeah. Yeah. To me it was the, it was kinda like Walt Disney, Richard Branson.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2You know? Mm-hmm. And he's outdone Walt Disney in a way.
SpeakerYeah, in certain things. Yeah, Walt, Walt was focused on kids. He's focused more on adults-
Speaker 2Yeah
Speakerwhich is kinda nice.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerAnd the ship was clean and neat and-
Speaker 2Oh
Speakerbeautiful. Like I said, easy to navigate.
Speaker 2Okay, we had the, y- uh, talking about entertainment, there was the big, the big room-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2where, and they had entertainment, had a comedian one night, and bands another night. Mm-hmm. Uh, and then they have a lounge.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2Uh, oh, which had great shows. Mm-hmm. Illusionists. Uh, w- one, one night, I, okay, I can't remember what it was called, but you had, they served five cocktails throughout the whole, the whole gig.
SpeakerOoh.
Speaker 2The dinner, you know. I saw plenty. It was a dinner show. Yeah, but they kept drinking and drinking and drinking and- Mm-hmm.
SpeakerAnd again, the Virgin Voyages are 18 plus. Yes. It's adult only cruise line.
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerAnd you, you don't have everything that other cruise lines have. So if you're into rock climbing walls and things like that, and slides, they do not have that.
Speaker 2Okay.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2We-
SpeakerMm-hmm
Speaker 2the thing that, okay, there's a big gymnasium, there's the, the spa- Right. Mm and all that. Well, we didn't do that. Right. They, they offered bridge lessons.
SpeakerYou're showing your age,
Speaker 2There were about 20, 25 people that w- Right w- came to the bridge lessons. Mm-hmm. The bridge, bridge instructor is from LA.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2And, uh, you know, a professional, and we went- So that
Speakerwas great. Learned more about bridge
Speaker 2le- learned more about bridge. Met some couples, and we played bridge, and so we had a good time.
SpeakerFabulous. My husband and I played... Did you, did you see the chess set?
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerThe standup pieces?
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerMy husband and I played chess. Yes. We were doing a whole bunch of other stuff.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerAnd they have some fun things when we were younger. That's the
Speaker 2social club. Yeah. That's the social club- Yeah where the games are.
SpeakerThe game room where they have the s- I don't know what it's
Speaker 2called. Yeah, shuffleboard
Speakers- sliding on, like a table. It's a
Speaker 2shuffleboard.
SpeakerIt's a table size.
Speaker 2Yes. Yeah. But it's called shuffleboard. Shuffleboard. And they do all sorts of stuff. They actually had a shuffleboard tournament.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2But, and I didn't get to participate in
Speakerit- Aw
Speaker 2even though it looks like curling.
SpeakerCurling f- on a table.
Speaker 2Uh-huh, without the brushes.
SpeakerRight. I was watching. I was watching them. Uh-huh. And
Speaker 2I was
Speakerlike,"This is interesting. I've never really seen this before." But the idea
Speaker 2and the atmosphere- You haven't been in the bars that I've been in.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2We, those were the big things.
SpeakerWell, you know me with drinking. Every now and then I have my cocktail. So- Did you go with another couple? Did you travel in a
Speaker 2group? No, we were by ourselves.
SpeakerOh, you were
Speaker 2by
Speakeryourselves.
Speaker 2We were, we were by ourselves.
SpeakerOkay.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerSo- But,
Speaker 2but we met a lot of people and it- Oh,
Speakeryeah.
Speaker 2Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Scarlet Night And Quiet Ship Moments
SpeakerAnd is, if you just wanna go on board and relax, is there those areas as well? Did they have that big night where they had that octopus and everything else that comes out on the deck?
Speaker 2Yes, that was called the Red Night. The
SpeakerRed Night.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm. Red Night? Scarlet. I think-
SpeakerScarlet Night
Speaker 2Scarlet Night, yes. Yeah,
SpeakerScarlet Night.
Speaker 2Yes, yeah.
SpeakerDid you wear red?
Speaker 2Well, you know I have a red jacket.
SpeakerDid you wear it?
Speaker 2Yes, I did.
SpeakerNow, they also, when we were on board, and I miss it, I was so upset, they had pajama party night.
Speaker 2Oh, yeah. They had a week.
SpeakerAnd we brought special pajamas.
Speaker 2Oh, no. And
Speakerwe missed the party. Oh, yeah. I was so upset. It's like,"Oh, we missed it. We missed it."
Speaker 2No, my wife bought a special r- red dress for the party, for the Red Night. For
Speakerthe Red Night.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerYeah. And if you go by the pool, it's not, you know, they don't have 9,000 pools. They don't have all of that. They do have pool. They do have hot tubs. Um-
Speaker 2Yeah, we were gonna do a hot tub. Never got to it.
SpeakerNever got to the hot tub?
Speaker 2We, we were gonna do the pool. Never got to the pool.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2Pool area.
SpeakerRight.
Speaker 2But what we did do was went up to the 16th deck-
SpeakerRight
Speaker 2at night, and it's very quiet up there.
SpeakerYes.
Speaker 2And looked out the back of the ship, saw the moon. Isn't it nice? Yeah.
SpeakerYes.
Speaker 2Yeah.
Mexico Riviera Sailing And LA Arrival
SpeakerIt is, it is a beautiful, beautiful ship. So you went through the canal. It took about eight hours to go through the canal. You went to several different locations. You said you were in Colon and Colombia.
Speaker 2Yes.
SpeakerColombia. And where else?
Speaker 2Well, uh, someplace in Mexico.
SpeakerYou went to Mexico.
Speaker 2And, uh, someplace before that. Went to
Speakera- you just go along wherever it takes you.
Speaker 2Went to a, went to a, coffee plantation.
SpeakerIn Colombia?
Speaker 2No, this was in, uh, one of the, on the western side. One...
SpeakerOh, on the western. Well, that- Yeah So you must have been in
Speaker 2Mexico at that point Yeah. I, I forgot the, I forge- See, I, I know where I was, but I forget where I was.
SpeakerDo you at least take pictures?
Speaker 2Oh, yeah.
SpeakerOh, good.
Speaker 2Yeah, so I know where I was, but, uh, you can't show them on this, uh, podcast, so.
SpeakerOh, dang.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerOkay. All right. So speaking of that, my podcast will probably be going video in the next several months.
Speaker 2Well, great.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2Great.
SpeakerYeah, we're working on that.
Speaker 2I, I have a face for radio.
SpeakerYou do.
Speaker 2Yeah.
SpeakerBut you have all those pictures that we could show.
Speaker 2Oh, okay.
SpeakerBut we'll, we'll talk about that on another episode. So you got over to Mexico. You sailed up Mexico way, the- Then out of Mexico- the Mexican Riviera. Mm-hmm
Speaker 2uh, Mex- out of Mexico was another s- two, two days sailing.
SpeakerYeah, because you had a, you're, you're basically coming in and you're going up by the Riviera of Mexico.
Speaker 2Mm-hmm. Uh-huh.
SpeakerSo then you landed in- LA
Speaker 2LA. And a beautiful dock.
SpeakerOh, yeah. And,
Speaker 2and I don't- Port
Speakerof LA,
Speaker 2absolutely.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2I don't know if that's a new dock for them.
SpeakerOh, yes.
Speaker 2Because-
SpeakerYes, they've worked on that
Speaker 2that, I mean, V- Virgin, they were repositioning the ship. This is the first time Virgin's been- It's
Speakergonna be
Speaker 2on that side on the west c- side. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
SpeakerYeah.
Speaker 2And so then we took a bus from the ship to the airport, got on the airplane and came home.
SpeakerOh, you didn't even stay in LA for
Speaker 2a day? No, no. We had no desire to stay in LA.
SpeakerParty pooper.
Speaker 2Yeah. Um, and, and we had the best day in, in the airport in LA. This was the day after Easter. Oh. So we,
SpeakerI,
Speaker 2we kinda think... Um, I mean, we got off the bus, checked our luggage-
SpeakerUh-huh
Speaker 2at, at, you know, outside, boom, into the airport. TSA, I mean, was, like, four people in front of us.
SpeakerThat's nice.
