Hello, and Merry Christmas. This is Judy Copenbarger, bestselling author, international speaker, money whisperer, financial expert, and creator of Money, Truth, and Life. Welcome to the Money, Truth, and Life podcast.
In this moment, what I wish for you most is the gift that matters most.
Take a deep breath.
There is a lot going on in the world and a lot going on in this season. There is hustle, bustle, and only a few days left to get menus together, finish decorating, and make sure everything feels just right when guests walk through the door. But this week is not really about the stuff.
It is not about spending or receiving. It is not about making everything perfect. It is about remembering what truly matters.
Is this a peaceful time of year for you, or is this when stress and anxiety feel the highest? What is really in your heart right now?
What is in my heart is presence. Being present with my people. My family, my close friends, the people I am doing life with. Those closest to me, right here in my little space.
I wish peace for you.
For some people, this is not an easy season. There may be health issues, grief, loss, or painful memories tied to Christmas. For others, it may bring comparison or feelings of lack. If that is you, I want you to know you are seen. We can be gentle with one another and brighten small corners of the world together.
And for those who love this season, when people slow down, gather, and set work aside to just be together, this is your reminder to stay present in those moments.
I often talk with young parents who feel pressure to do it all. The perfect gifts, the toys, the bikes, the big surprises. And those traditions can be wonderful. But what children really want is you. Your time. Your attention. Your presence.
Think back on your own childhood. The memories that last are being together. Lying on the floor around the tree. The sounds of grownups talking in the background. The smells from the kitchen. The shared meals. Those are the moments that make the season special.
Presence matters more than presents.
This is not just about money, although overspending can steal peace quickly. If it is too late for that this year, stop now. But the bigger message is connection. Listening. Slowing down.
When was the last time you truly listened? Not just to people, but to the world around you. Step outside. Close your eyes. What do you hear? Birds. Traffic. Wind. The hum of life happening all around you.
What if you listened more deeply to people too? Ask them how they are doing. What is going on in their world. And really listen. It could be your kids, a family member, or even the clerk at the grocery store.
Breathing matters too. Taking a moment to breathe intentionally can calm your body and your mind. It may feel simple, but it is powerful.
When we ask what people really need this Christmas, the answer is each other. People. Presence. Care.
Maybe you can reach out to someone who is lonely, grieving, or struggling. Maybe you can help with a meal, wrap gifts, or simply sit and listen. Many of the most meaningful gifts cost nothing but time and attention.
One of our favorite Christmases was a year we chose to have a non-commercial Christmas. We cut down our own tree, made decorations, and gave handmade gifts. We did not have much money that year, but we had creativity, connection, and time together. It remains one of our most cherished memories.
It is easy to get distracted by advertising and endless options. Every screen tells you that you need more. But intention changes everything. Start with a list. Be proactive, not reactive. Protect your peace now so regret does not show up later.
As we wrap up this Christmas message, here is my challenge for you.
Find a way to slow down and reconnect. Make a phone call that needs to be made. Heal a relationship. Create a new one. Let go of habits or relationships that are not serving you well.
You do not have to wait for the calendar to change. You can choose peace today.
Be quiet. Be present. Listen. Breathe.
