Bill

All right, here we are. The William Arthur show. With the jeweler syndicate first Jeweler's round table. Podcast experience extravaganza. We were sitting here with Lama the jeweler. Adrian butcher banks. That's me. Alejandro. Lao talking in the clouds. Welcome my friends. We're all here. How are we doing? I've interviewed you all Well, you guys are some of my first guests, but yeah. Uh, Adrian was later on, who also interviewed me on my own podcast. The tables return. That was really fun. But, uh, I feel like it would be great to start. On the story of how we all converged. Um, so the first person I met was DRO at the Miramar over 10 years ago. That was 10 years ago. Yeah. So we were wire wrapping over 10 years ago. We've been in the game over a decade. My bro. Yeah, that's wild. That is that it doesn't feel like 10 years. No, it's like, it feels more like five because I kind of been taking it more seriously for the last five, but yeah, 10 years. Yup. Um, whew. We were a little music heads, uh, exploring the live music scene and what that culture had to offer. And we connected over aware app you were wearing. So that was a cool experience. Stumble across you. Yeah. Um, I forgot what I had probably some way or have jewelry rings. But, uh, later on you came to my mom's house, I think that was like our first meeting outside of the, you know, it's easy to see. Yeah, I remember it was the same all the way out. It was a Thursday at 5:30 PM. Now I'm scattered. Remember? But yeah, I do remember. Yeah. And then you came back from new approach and visited you again. And we just kind of kept in touch after that. And then, and then it Well, I'm at the jeweler. It was you first. Second. You were installed already. You were fully in. Can you walk us through how you connected with me and where you were at at that time? I don't know. I was following, I was, uh, in college and I was doing digital fabrication and I wanted to do jewelry and that was what my like, thesis was. And someone's had finished that like, By that point, I'd already begun following just as many jewelry, like pages and like people as possible. And it just so happened. You connected when, like I was following the chronic collection and all those people or whatever that. Looking for like the intersection of Milwaukee and jewelers that like I found you. And just so happen that you live like three blocks. Like five blocks away from me. Like per chance. And that was history. I mean, I don't know, I just reach out to everybody. So that was it. Good on him. Here's a funny. I just bug everybody. Here's a funny connection that you guys might not realize while that was happening. I was working at, um, the, the jewelry store where we all apprenticed and, uh, I had met you in the interim, like at the same time when you guys had just connected. I met you at a Christmas party. Um, you showed up with your parents and, uh, yeah. I remember Julie replaced at the jewelry place. Yeah. I remember you being there. You were sitting in the consultation room, just like in the main chair. Like you'd had already been there. I was like, who is this guy? But this book briefly, I like just introduce myself and just said like, oh, hi, I've worked here, yellow. Yeah. You still also work here. There was so much going on when I had came back and it was funny because we were just, um, we were downtown at that food truck event that was going on. You. You know what I'm talking about? I don't remember what it was. It was like the KK, like food park thing. You're talking about. And my parents convinced me to go to that. And we were there and then they were like, oh, the jewelry thing, let's go pop in. And I'm like, Do you remember? I was like, not. Uncomfortable. Now I know why, but I was not going to go in. I'll be honest. I was like very much not going to be like Tony Montana vibes. You convinced me. Are you resistant? Like Robert. Oh, that was I understand now All right. He's like, who is this dude? And, uh, yeah, turns out that, that was actually hilarious. Like looking back at it. It was Adrian worked there. So that's how I met Adrian. See you then that day too. No, she wasn't there yet. She came like a month later after that month or two later. I was facing out. I was coming in, he and he looked Are there for a year. Dan anyway. So basically we all converged in a few different ways. We met Joe and I met individually. Jacob and I met individually, but we all had a professional connection through another guy. The jeweler's Guild, which I think it's fine. We say the business name, but yeah, things didn't work out there. And, you know, we continued on our own individual artistic paths. 2017 or 28, 27. No. I said this. The first podcast we did, Jacob was the first interview I ever hosted for this show. And I wish I would have looked at the exact date and time of the first message you sent me. And I did after the podcast. Yeah, I did. I found it because you can just scroll back. It's still in the semester. I'm fairly, I'm fairly certain. It was 2016. It was that the back of the 2016, because like I said, it was at a Christmas party that I met. You. And, uh, it was like a Christmas or new year's party. So, and before that, you had mentioned that you were going to go talk to him. Cause I had just moved to Milwaukee, so like putting it all together and Adrian had just come in and around Halloween issue or something like that. But that was after I had came back from jewelry school. So I was 2018. Um, into the July, 2018. When you came back though, but. I'm talking about when you first met. Oh, you contacted me after I graduated. Pretty sure I graduated and came back already, but yeah. Tell us about how, you know, you kind of came in. Adrian. I was waiting for will to do that. Um, talk a host here. It's the jewelers round table. It's an open-ended conversation. Oh, wait 2018. Early. I think I didn't make my Instagram to like 2019, but yeah, I ended up at the jeweler's Guild to. Um, and I met Dre was still there. And he was getting fucking sick. Uh, fucking putting together weird people's furniture that they didn't think through and like cleaning up. Fucking making jewelry. All the heavy shit. I was a very involved there. I liked the place. I liked the person at So it It's easy to care about somebody, but yeah, yeah, yeah. I would like for anyone that's interested to. Explain what they believe the jeweler's syndicate is. And I think Jacob. Take out the thing, Jacob is the man for this explanation too much. Coming together. There is no concrete path forward for what this is, but it's an entity. We're a family, as they do have our motors up. Rodney, you have our mission statement. It's somewhere. The flow neuron drop some words on it. Yo, like we all kind of banded together for survival. So I view it's a survival instinct, you know, in a way, I mean, I still view it as like your guys' success is my success. So I like to see you guys succeed. So I just feel like. There needs to be more of an entity that is focused around. You know, like I was talking with my parents other day and they're like, why don't you just focus entirely on yourself? And like, not innocent indirectly. And I was kinda just like, I immediately didn't really like Like, I didn't like recognize that, like, identify with that because I'm just like, it wouldn't feel as good if I had succeeded by. By myself and I hadn't gotten anywhere without. The same. So that's the main driving factor behind it. So also like, yeah, we've, we've all gone through some shit without going too. In-depth so it's kinda like, I prefer if we could like, At least soften that blow for like whoever's coming afterwards. It doesn't have to be. Yeah, you don't have to make it. Perfect. Especially in the Midwest. Yeah. Jacob's been like, that's all I got is the spearhead in the captain of. Really building, buzz around the studio and always bringing in new, I mean, we all Hell. Yeah. You're really good at the PR. You know, you're really good and you're, you're very community oriented and that's like one of your core values. You care about bringing people together. We don't have three, we don't have to go off on the boat. No, there's just so many people locally that we don't know. So we're doing our best to yeah. No ever busy. Yes. Yeah. It's like going to art shows, you see all these crazy artists that are like a mile away from you. And you're like, Why didn't I hear of you before? That's pretty crazy. Perfect example, in case in point, bill was like, yeah, five blocks away from me. When I first met And I was like looking at his page and I don't know how much he had back then maybe like, definitely over like 15 or like 20 or something or whatever. And Fuck. I was And I was like, well, hang out. And he's So it's kind of one of those things where it's like, I'm finding these people that have like 300, 400 followers and they're still doing the same shit we were doing. No one seeing it so well, followers aren't really like. The measure of how successful you are in your community, especially your community, especially since it's more of like a global outreach kind of thing. In my If you've made a page already and you're already posting to it already, then it's a perfect promotional item and a perfect promotional tool A lot of people end up doing it as a portfolio that ends up becoming a promotional thing. So it's, there's no right way to do it a wrong way to do it. We're saying the same thing here. Oh yeah. But I don't know, but I hear what you're saying. There's no forward direction for the syndicate in regards to like specific things, but I feel like it will naturally flow into the cracks that we need to fill. There's general ideas. We do have a pretty good core of what we want to get done though. We all know we want to strike in the community when it comes to both jewelers artists and like, you know, even going further. Just like cultivating a community that is like, no, Use photographers. If we need them or like models, et cetera, to be able to help each other out Each other grow. So. Oh, yeah. Hell. Yeah. It's safe to say. That we all meld together very well, and we all shine in different areas. Um, and I'm just grateful to know all of you and it's just magical to me how well we personally connect. You know, outside of just being interested in art and creativity. And, you know, being on our own solo per newer ventures and carving that path for ourselves. Uh, I would be curious to hear from each of you, like, what is your favorite aspect of doing this right now? What lights you up the most about. Um, just crafting your craft and creating what you want to create within jewelry. Art, Adrian first. Adrian. Oh, repeat the question. That's okay. Um, what feels best to you right now about what's happening between all of us and within the laboratory here, the jeweler syndicate slash William Arthur jewelry studio. What really lights your I know, and I'm trying to, it feels the best. We have a great time in here. So we have a great time in here and it's like a, it's a really good, like safe space where everyone can like be themselves and be, you know, little fruits and whatever. Is this true? I'm letting my fire. I don't know. I'm here. I'm the worst person to ask this to right now? Like, this is the wrong right now for that. What do you enjoy on a daily basis about being here? Oh, You like about what you do? It's pretty easy. You just said it. I love looking around and like, like you've been here throughout the day and stuff. I get to come and like, see your like little piles of shit. Like what that moon. And then leave. Yeah, I work in secrecy. And it's like, and then I'll have a tool go missing for like ever I'd. I'd be like, where's the fucking. I just accept my tools I'm like, I know it's here somewhere. I'll just find one on Jacob's bench, a matching tool. That's the best part about it. You're like I need a bench. Fucking you just look to the next bench and you're like, okay, you're coming with me now. I feel similar about. That's I try to have, when I came back, I was like, I felt so bad. Just take taking all that shit back. I mean like, Nope, this is at my bench now. Like, no, it's good. I mean, read the bylaws in the ground rules. Oh yeah. Well, We all shared tools that way. It's flowing. Yeah. Yeah. Are my tools. Are your tools, your tools, or my tools. To a certain degree. You know, there's there's limitations. I'm going to treat tools badly every now and then. So just treat them a little better than I would. And that's fine. We run on mutual respect here. So really love seeing the way everyone chooses to care for this space. And their own like unique little different ways, like how everyone comes here and like represents each other's personality. I love how goofy it is sometimes. Or how persistent someone can be. In regards to what. Optimizing the space. It's fine. I'm done. Yeah. Sometimes I'm in here and we're getting shit done. Like no questions asked. I've been in here so long. I forget what anything means So like when DRO comes in, it's really nice to have him like host people here and be like, oh yeah, this is syndicated. This is what we do. This is how we do this. And walk someone through the entire process of making jewelry within like, you know, like. No, it sucks. I'm like, oh yeah, it is simple. Okay. Good. I mean, I mean, you tell them what they need to know, really. If they ask more than we obviously have that knowledge. So it's just more so by opening the door for them to be able to ask questions. Cause everybody's curious if they already contacted you for a piece they're like, they've seen what you do. They, they like what you're doing. They just want to like. Feel it almost, you know, That's a good part of it. My favorite parts of the library. That's pretty Not in the frame. We were trying to, we were attempting to organize, uh, the camera set up so that it would be didn't work out. But we do have an extensive jewelry library. Many courtesy of Jacob, many of the books. So there's some, there's some bangers up there. Some straight bang. And the camera? No, I was looking at the bookshelf. Oh, okay. second favorite tech. I know that's not your favorite thing. Yeah. I mean, it's definitely one of my favorite. I'm proud Yeah, definitely. Like I love collecting stuff, so it's really like nice that like, I think it looks cool. No. We'll do like going to local libraries, like I'll guarantee you. Almost all of the local library. And I can't. books. I'd like order out books and I can request for them to like, Wait lists and stuff. No, but I'd be like, I'll give them a list of like 20 bucks. And then they tell me they could get like five for me and they'd have to mail them in. And I can't take them out of the library Like it was just like the books are very inaccessible. The jewelry. Yeah. And some really cool ones and you're like, oh, I got to go return this. Cause I only have it for like three And it's like this big. I'm like, look at this. Uh, my favorite thing about the space. Just about the experience of being in the space and being an artist with all of us. It's a loud train's excuse. The. Normal day activities unfolding outside. I love seeing people struggle in the same ways as We're in this together. Yeah. It's like, I'm not alone. I love this building just has like also just tons of other people, trying to figure something out. They're all. Everyone is trying to like, figure out what's going on, running into. And I'm always finding out like, New people in this building and it's just crazy. Next door. Uh, Josh, he shouts out there's a painter now. Apparently it is. And it's a person that like, I now like, you know, fall out and come, you know what I mean? Like I did the whole She got a fun, funny picture. So I immediately left. She. No. She's like. Getting, you know, a lot of attention and like she's like associated or affiliated or like, you know, Uh, like, uh, whatever friends with some of the people that are already follow and saw, I'm like, oh, this is sick. Like, it's just another, like Milwaukee creative. Um, I don't know, like, yeah. I just opportunity to enter interconnect community. Yeah. And then just like running into people here that are just like, oh, then you're 10 years. And I don't know anybody here. And it's like, it's, it's That was my mind, dude. I have no idea how people can live their lives. Wondering what the person next door is doing. You know what I mean? Yeah. Like some people are very shy. It has nothing to do Like taking me up. Yeah. At nighttime. Again, the hall I gave him some eyes. I'm trying to get those little fuckers. So don't ask me like, yo, we need to do a podcast. Can we just rent it out for an hour? There's a podcast studio. Couple of doors down. They have so many mikes goddammit. That's okay. We're coming through lower quality than usual. What's happening. And that's all that We're putting it together. Yeah. Okay. Hello. My, uh, favorite thing about working with you guys Being able to have all these great resources at. My disposal, you guys are agreed to work with overall. Like I said, everybody kind of does their own thing, but at the same You know, kind of like planet of the. APRA's strung together. You know, we, we get shit done by working together and. Everybody's got connections for anything I need, which is great. Vice versa. So. That's cool. Plus, you know, having an access to like every single piece of equipment that we actually need. Just the access to everything is. Amazing then it's kind of impossible to do it. Yeah. Not impossible. It just takes really, really long. Just have to like go. Full. On it basically. You're canceled. But I can't say, okay, we're going to roll right I grew up in a different era. She's acclimating. She's from a different. Yeah, you set it on one of the other podcasts we did. I didn't take it I shouldn't even appointed. Now we're going to just ask you, what's your favorite thing? Yeah. Yeah. Um, so really like I worked alone for so long and it allowed me to be incredibly productive and take big strides in what I do and cultivate my skills at You know, pretty rapid rate, but in the end, working alone all day, every day for that many hours, uh, consistently I've just realized is detrimental to my mental health. So really it's just being able to show up and converse and connect and play with you guys in the, in the studio and collaborate and support each other. Both. You know, with personal stuff and professional stuff. And yeah, we're stronger together. So I feel like the team dynamic is really what is best to me and what allows me to flourish most in what I do. Uh, here and what we do together. So. That's the most impactful aspect of, you know, get into work here with you guys. And then outside of that, I think just with the jewelry making. Um, Get into carve my own path and, and, and obtain my own freedom through my art. That's an absolute dream. And then all the people I've gotten to connect with, you know, going to Tucson with you That shit was epic. I want you there next year at your house. We want you there. Oh, that's so fun. It's a weird timing. I mean for me, that's where he's going. I'm never coming It is closest, like No, that's not true. She's exaggerating. I invited that one gem. You said you were leaving. We are both exaggerating. Come on. I invited that one gem cutter that I met recently, that Sapphire guy. Uh, from river west. So he's like, I really want to go and I'm like, we're definitely going. So he's going to come. And then we'll connect with him probably if we're not before, while we're there. For sure. So that'd be fun. Another, Millwall gonna rent a compound with a pool and a hot tub, and it's going to be, if we can get enough extravagant. That'd be kind of cool. Um, uh, who else? There's other people here. Oh, Lexi. Let's get her to come. She's she's likes to explore. I feel, yeah, she'd be interested in, If she hasn't, maybe she has, I haven't asked her. But yeah. Getting everyone together, making it kind of like a community experience instead of, um, yup. Individual journey. Yeah. Um, for sure. Yeah. Okay. Onto the next, uh, exploration. What's the questions you want. I have no questions. I hate structuring podcasts. I realize that. So now I'm just in the zone of trusting myself and letting the things emerge. And I like, I like free flowing, conversational dynamic versus. Like here's my paper with all my questions and therefore I just overthink everything and then I'll be like looking at what's the next thing I'm going to say, instead of being present with who I'm doing the show with. So I want to shout about, uh, you know, some of your, what has been. The highlight in terms of. Your jewelry, creating experience this year. Um, You know, whether it's a project or an adventure or a new evolution. I know Jacob has some stuff to share. He went on a journey this year. Oh. So that'd be cool for maybe you to kick it off. I'm not going to, you know, say that that's the thing that you choose, Well, I mean, it makes That's a good lead Going to new approach and teaching there for three months. The three and a half months, I think, or we'll not teaching. I was assisting. I was just like, uh, You know, uh, looking over shoulders and helping people get through like worksheets and like processes and models and stuff or Uh, but anyway and great and everything, and it didn't, it didn't end the way that I had prepared to, which I feel like is just very much life. So. Um, but Being thankful for like the opportunity to like spend time learning and being around, uh, You know, all the, you know, Cool new approach people again, and like spend time there. It was like still very life-changing again, like it wasn't like the previous time. And if anything has given me another like, frame of reference on like working independently. And, you know, building something yourself and how. Uh, special it can become. And how important building something yourself is like not only for serving yourself with, for serving your community. So, you know, definitely learned a lot being there again. And, uh, I wish I had more money, but that's about That was a big leap of faith you took. It was so spontaneous, Jacob and I were living together. And you know, this all started because of an idea I had when we were in Tucson, where we were in the car home from, uh, the, from gem and jam. And I was like, we were playing DOMA. And I was like, well, what if I could find some like, tickets and like, you know, get them for us. I, you know, it's all off coincidence. It's crazy stuff. Yeah. Like. Essentially. Yeah, I bought Jacob and I a ticket and I surprised him with it, uh, as a gift, just cause I know you fucking love them and you introduced me to DOMA for anyone listening, check them out. They're great. But, uh, so we took a trip to Nashville. We took a trip to Nashville. And, you know, we went to the school where we had cultivate our skills, new approach school for jewelers, and that's where this opportunity opportunity had emerged. Did you overlap at new approach at all? Or were you absolutely I'm in close. Yeah. Years in between. But that opportunity for you to be an assistant teacher at new approach emerge while you were there just hanging out. Blaine Lewis. He's the man. And if you're listening and want to check out an interview with Blaine Lewis, the owner and founder of new approach, I forget what episode it is, but I did interview him and Stephanie worth the listen, man is a wealth of wisdom. The goal at van. Listen to The hillbilly philosopher. And I believe he's got the, he's got the insight. He's the man. He's just, he's so openhearted and he's still supportive. And so open-minded, um, nothing SAPs show That was a thank you for sharing. Uh, you're it was, uh, it was quite the experience for sure. Formatively and. He's meant to be back. This is the sign from the universe. There's been multiple reasons why he should be gone. It's in better shape because you are way stronger now. Like we know I mean when I came back and I didn't think, I didn't know how long I was going to be back for. I definitely like kicked it into high gear. The first day I was here. Like try it and really chop anything up. I was just, you know, Getting everything back to running condition was the main goal. Like just like power mode. So, yeah, no, I'm happy to be back. Um, I'm like got a completely different mindset on like how to move forward at least. Um, yeah. And using, utilizing my skills. So. That was a, a bittersweet thing to hear the news about new approach. And you're getting, let go of, I was like, I'm one time like, oh, dang. That sucks. He'd just moved and operated his life to go down there. It's crazy. How, like, when that ended too, I had so many people that were like, they acted sad for me, but they were so excited. Like they were like, oh no, But you're coming back. I don't want you to come back. not like that, but I was just like, yeah, he's gone forever. I said that a couple of times we thought, well, I was like, It's going to be, no, I was like, this is what he wants. I was like, he's probably going to keep moving from there. That's what I said. That was my guess, but I was wrong. Am I happy you're back here, Yeah, being wrong. Like you care around more when he was gone. It's true. That's not true whatsoever. What did you say to me before you leave? You better be in there more? See, I was. Just wanted you to be in there. You should leave. So he comes back. That's not how it works. Adrian. You're making, they're twisting this around. Sorry. I also got to recognize this. Jacob continued to pay for his space here while he was gone. Uh, knowing you would be gone for multiple months. So respect, respect. Yeah. I would do it again. Fuck. Yeah, that's the man right there. You hadn't paid for your space here. I just meant all of it. I'm going to come back to I Something completely new. Depends on how you look at No, it wasn't new. Everything was just shifted around. Ah, there you're whole none by nothing there for a minute. We all get there. Yeah, we've been We've all been there. Yeah. Hanging on by a thread, but it's a thread or fucking natural. I actually won't break here that we're here for you to just. They wouldn't even need to, like you said, you hit the ground, running your back, gets its cool. Yep. We're overselling your, your grief here. No. Yeah, it was great. I don't fucking book. No, I'm not writing books. That was a major pivot point for Lama the jeweler's career and his direction with all this. Great. I had a lot of opera. I met a lot of cool people. I had a lot Yeah. I hung out with all the cool new approach. People seemed like you were working a lot. It seemed like every day you were really just cranking out work with. Reading a lot, a lot, but a lot of books, I'm not fast reader, I'll say that much. So. It's nice to have picture books and a. I like pictures. A lot of the computer books are not picture books. I'll say that much. So you have to like figure out like equations and Jesus. Nice. Yeah. It's fun stuff. And I can't even explain it cause I'm not that good at it. We don't have the time. Another podcast for another All right. Adrian. What's up. Favorite. Aspect of being a jeweler this year. Favorite highlights, highlights, highlights, reel highlight. Um, what are some of the standout points? Pivot points. Hold on, let me remember. This year was. I'll do it. I had a great fucking time. Here, like there's a three month run where I was like, I think I'm like the happiest I've ever been. When I was gone. Wait. No, I'm just kidding. No, it was no, it was like half and half. It was like, when I still look. I'm like, uh, I'm in a weird moment right now where I have to leave you guys again, but it's okay. It's okay. Permanent it's impermanent. It's what it's supposed to be. It's like deeply fucking upset about it. Like I levels like on all the levels, like, I feel like immense failure. While trying to pretend like I'm not to go get a job. Like it just sucks. Dicks. Uh, I've been. Real angry. I'm sorry. That's what I like about you. I like your anger. I like your. Everything, no fucking work out. And then they don't know. Yeah, it's not that it isn't working out. I think a big part of this is like every minor setback does feel like a giant failure just because, you know, it does enter the vision a bit, but not, I myself had to get back to work like, you In order to make things work for me right now, I'm working a full-time job. This is like, Very much on the hobby and for me, and I'm completely happy with it. I'm still producing a lot. So don't think of it that way. It's, you're just making sure that you're stable enough to keep doing it so that you can keep being successful. Like. You know, failure is a part of it. They look part of growth. But you, you shouldn't be angry. Fuck. Not even a failure. It's It's fucking great here. I don't know if you know that it's fucking great. Great. I've literally Twice thinking that I'm not going to have to get a job And now I'm in a position where I should probably just get a job. Oh, no, I'm getting Sorry, I'm getting a job. But you get what I'm saying? I don't have to, but you get what I'm saying, where it's like, I've done that twice. So. You guys know about my work history, right? I've worked like so many jobs. What do you think? This is like my, this is like my seventh or eighth. Go round. You guess, is it. And that's completely fine. Like I'm cool with it, you know? Cause I, like I was telling you the other day, every time that I had quote unquote failed. I've come back like so much harder and so much better and so much more passionate and with a better mindset of like, what do I want to do next? Where do I want to take the next out? Highlight of this year. For Adrian. Or unless are you done? You got more. I'd say you just enjoyed yourself. I don't know. Like your mom. These are brain. Um, favorite project that you made or something. Fucking cares. I don't like anything I've made vagina rings. Those are cool. I like that. Dang. That was good. And work to work. I just don't remember any of it right now. I can't the noodle ring. Well, We'll ring, dude. Pasta sauce. It's good. It makes people happy. Pasta pendant. I don't know where that is. I've seen that around my skill set Thank you, Jacob. Thank you, William. Like I'm, I'm getting to the point where sometimes I finished on I'm, like I'm might be a dealer I'm like, maybe. You are a jeweler. There's a couple of times where like I get done with. And I'm like, I'm a fucking Cuellar. And then I break my phone and like kick over a shelf. I feel so strong, but like, He broke the dioxide. You break your hammer in Ah, the Well, good thing here in the, the, the Lincoln warehouse. We have a literal unit where we can To pay to break things if we feel called to do Which I haven't done, but I want to do it with all of you. So. I did it. Yeah, you offer to, to, Can I pay for a fucking package and I want it to get the best for my money. Sorry. I missed it. I would have smashed some shit that would have been fun. Okay. If you were there and it was something to We can just go a full office space and just do it enough, a farm or like a, just a field and then just beat up a computer in a field. Oh, that would be cool. I'll just say the guy downstairs, he needs new plexiglass. Cause you can't, it's so funky. You can't get like, oh, it's all scratched up. Pictures of Out right now. Hmm. Once he gets that new plexi we're in Sure. You need the pictures and the video. If you don't make content and you don't exist. I don't know if you know that. Well, yeah. That's the only way people can prove you're real is if you can like show them yourself, like on your phone then even if you're right there. Yeah. So real. I guess going out to My favorite too. 2022. I get a lot of ass secretly. I haven't really been like out there as much as I normally am. Um, the pretty reclusive, just kind of doing my thing, but we made, uh, we're. We're so close to hitting a hundred on the four walkie project. That's been like. Uh, pretty, pretty good. I'm based in work off of being here in the studio. It's been focusing on that mainly, you know, not many customers. I've got a few customers on a couple of solid gold pieces, you know, for me, it was mainly just being able to like, have a job, be successful with that, like still working and be successful with that. Keep the studio tight and everything. And, uh, just keeping the ship float and, you know, like, Copeland kind of kicked my ass in this kind of started at the beginning or the end of like the shutdowns and stuff. So I was kind of just trying to get back on my feet and yeah, now I'm back on my feet, but. Some things. Uh, things are changing, like always and Phoenix. Yeah. Yeah. So I guess. Dealing with the form, like what is she gearing up for? She's scary. All through. Yeah. I mean, there's a, there's a bunch of, I've already come up with a bunch of products for the line, as far as like, when I say products, I mean like different jewelry pieces, you know? Thought of rings and blah, blah, blah. It's more like that. You'll see. I'm loud. I'm just going to say that, but there is definitely a lot more gearing up towards that. So that is my main focus. And right now, for me, like, My pride and making jewelry is the fact that with your help and with the help of, you know, Um, pat our caster. Our cast master. Fella. I don't really know him well, but either way with him and your help, we know we've been able to like, Really get out there and, uh, locally, you We've even made a solid gold one, couple of plated ones. So it's just like the variations there, you know, like the words out there. And can you tell us what the project is for the listeners? Yeah, absolutely. So for walkie is a community-based project. Uh, it's, it's our hand in one. Uh, it's a four and a one. So 4, 1 4 is Milwaukee's area code, basically just signifying like pride in the city, you know, like trying to unify everybody through a common goal of building. It's like it really jives with what we're doing here in the syndicate, as far as. Just trying to grow the community, you know? Uh, is my partner. Um, Um, she's, she's the main boss basically. So I'm just kind of like the ghost rider. And that's, I've read really proud to take a backseat to that because, um, it's her Brian, so I've just been helping her develop all the jewelry and all of the hardware for that. So, Doing the heavy lifting. Yeah. Well, yeah. Cause like she's doing a lot of work that wouldn't have been possible. I'm like she hustles, she hustles. So it's incredible to have that support, you know, it's helped me with my timelines. It's it's been great. That's really, it's been a lot of cool growth. Um, I missed a hundred, More to go. We hit a hundred. Uh, the goal is 414. Uh, where I'm good, where I'm good paste for that. Um, but yeah, just having more quieter about like social media stuff, hadn't really been posting, you know, just don't really have the time. More interest. I still post like random shit. More social media. Now, what are you telling us about? Well, yeah, because of my other project, I've. I've also been painting on the side. I started a war gaming. Thing going It's been painting that, but we won't get into the nerdy things. Just got a nerdy hobby. It's it's a lot of fun though. You're right. He's in my lap. He's a lab technician. And he regards, he made a whole nother social media. Okay. I've painted like 120 miniatures what's up in one year. That's actually. It's super fucking nerdy, but I've really, really enjoyed. It's cool. That's all we are is just nerds in the realm of being jewelry, technicians, and creators and innovators in that field. It's the same tools. Yeah, it's the same position is the same, you know, love that I put into it. So it's kinda been like really nice to have another thing to do at home when I'm too tired to come here, too tired to do whatever. So it's like easy, but yeah, just, just been keeping the year going strong, just quiet and strong right now. Just letting the work, do the talking. But it's great to have you back. It's not true. What they say. I did miss you. We all missed you doesn't talk about it, but she's been kicking a lot of ass with all the projects she's made. Bill's always pulling it without, without, you know, say in it. Going super hard with the lines also, so excited to see what's going on with that. Bill has been going hard. How has it been like. What's because you are, I look to you like, um, cause I can, you can only move so fast in this business and we're all at different levels right now. You're like three years ahead of anyone. Like as far as like establishing your dumb brand. It's just like. amazing. Marketing is great. Your branding is on point. I really, really enjoy that fast. Emulate what other people are doing. Like the reels. Well, that's the best way to do it. I mean, it's basically like they're doing a lot of the work for you. Yeah, that's. It's become a lot harder to cultivate followers. Over the years, I used to get at least a hundred followers a week, and now it's like 10 to 20, even with like real is getting 400, 500 likes, which is strange. Cause I wasn't getting that much, that On any of my posts or that much engagement yet, I was getting way more followers. It's like dope. I'll be at like 50 K and I did the math. I was like, sweet. Like I'm on great pays for just continuing to grow the brand. And. My social media outlet and stuff like that. Very thankful for the internet as a tool. And that's really what allows me to thrive and do what I do because. You know, as most of us are, we're primarily based online and that's where we showcase our work and sell our work. And yeah, it's just a great platform to springboard off of and support ourselves. Uh, you know, cultivate what we want to cultivate. So quick topics. Uh, we're kind of shifting topics I got to share my highlights of the year Sorry, hold that thought because I want to hear what you have to say for me. It was Tucson for sure. I'm surprised. None of you guys mentioned that. Um, but Tucson was incredible. I, uh, you know, sucked you guys into the experience. Yeah, we'll be there next year. Hopefully I know you have other things, but Eventually. Yes. But being in the desert with my local Milwaukee jewelry, family, family, not having to fly out there alone. Uh, which is always fine because I know tons of people out there and I'm always, you know, able to come together with some group of individuals to get an Airbnb or whatever, but that whole experience was amazing. Jacob's first music festival. That was cool to witness you in that. quiet and polite. But interested in people's still going up and be like, Hey, I kept, I kept. Really hard and try to get him to like move his body. he was wiggling. Yeah, I watched then all gas, no brakes. And he did this. Going wild. And then like that day I ran into the same guy and he was hoppy to a little guy. oh, the DMT guy. And the tracks, the fucking scary dude. Aggressive. But it was fun. Yeah, I Tucson. Sean was excellent. Yeah. Tucson was one for the books. It gets better every year. And it was just, that was, you know, Uh, particularly special being able to go with y'all and have that experience. And I'm happy I could be there for it because it's very confusing at first. It's pretty simple. Once you understand the layout and how things work there, but to go and do it as, you know, a Virgin to Tucson, it's, it's a bit overwhelming. There's just so much to see. There's so many different shows over the course You know, however long it spans, but that was definitely one of the highlights of the year in terms of jewelry experiences for 2022. And I know next year is going to be fantastic. And then also second thing is, you know, continuing to expand and collaborate with all you guys more Adrian and I are. Establishing some rapport and, uh, our mutually beneficial, creative relationship and professional relationship. Creepy every time you say that though, is it No, she just doesn't know how. you're literally just being genuine telling her how much you appreciate. But there's like so many ways to framing your, like a mutually beneficial. Biotic. Can we just be like friends. That's what he's saying, but he's being forced. Adrian. Receive the This to draw like aggressively the other day, we fucking business partners or not. Are we fucking business? All the time. I'm like. It's the only here. Contemporaries. We're fucking. Like business partners. So Adrian's would be, as Jacobs would be as we're starting to work together more as well. And so that's just been cool to, you know, step more into a collaborative dynamic with my business. And work with y'all and yeah, just overall, the year's been great. Um, I feel like my mental health is better than ever because that's been a grappling match throughout the years with like finding a balance with work and not, you know, Essentially self-sabotaging and self-destructing via diving into hard, which has been a pattern and a habit. Uh, throughout the years. Uh, but I th that's, I'm complete with that though. Those have been the Uh, stick out moments and things that have shifted well, Doosan hasn't shifted, but, uh, that's that second thing I mentioned working with y'all and collaborating and bringing you guys in to what I do with Willie, Martha jewelry. That's been really cool. Thank God for William Morris and jewelry. Yeah, I So many thing, everything would have been a lot harder if I wouldn't have found you for sure. It was meant to happen. You know, it was, uh, it was, uh, the universe brought us together and that it's very, it's like, One in 1 billion trillion, you know, if that's even a number, the level of connection we have personally, how much fun we have together, how much we resonate, uh, personality wise in terms of our humor and the way we like to interact and stuff like that. And the type of entertainment we like. And. Uh, you know, that whole thing. So anytime I like zoom out and look at the big picture of, you know, what, this is the, yeah, like I said earlier, the thing I appreciate most is just getting to connect with you guys and be on the journey together. Doing this. Yeah. What am I, how am I supposed to react to this? No. Um, so yeah, it's been, it's been, We got here. A year and a half ago, a little bit over a year and a half ago. And initially it was just me and it was like an empty room. So cute. So meek, it's just like it's bare bones and yeah, we've just like all poured ourselves into this space in different ways. And I'm just incredibly grateful to be. Uh, and thankful to be in Milwaukee and to be able to obtain this space for such a low cost. It's like, we've got it made here and we're surrounded by epic people in the different units and stuff like that. So, um, it's just a vibe. It's just a vibe. It's, it's great. It's a ton of fun. And that's the thing I most look forward to is just like working side by side with everyone here. So It's a cool little incubator. That's what I've always called this place. But it's just kind of like growing too. I remember Alyssa said that when she was, or I've watched like an interview with her or something like that, Alyssa was someone that worked upstairs in a unit on the fifth floor. And it's called the space and she's moved on to bigger projects, but she was here for years and I had some other friends that were here, but she had mentioned that this was like, or her space specifically was an incubation space, but I really view this whole building as an incubation space and specifically. This studio space right here. Uh, where we create and where we operate and yeah, it just continues to expand and elaborate, and I know great things are going to come of all of this and yeah, it's definitely a journey that we. That there's tons of obstacles and unforeseen circumstances that arise and stuff like that. But, uh, I have no fear with it because we are all so capable and we like have, you know, we've all had our different experiences and it just like converges into this. You know, insane, like megalithic super say in three level energy where we can just like, do whatever the fuck we want. So like the magazine from power Rangers. Yeah. The leg is already know that robot that comes I doubt. I An analogy. So robot made a robot. Really strong That's Metta right away. Yeah. That's that's us. Yep. That's us. So that's cool. And yeah, it just keeps getting better. And it's in our hands. So, uh, I believe Yeah. You shouldn't interview Emily. Uh, Klopp scene. Yeah. Collapsed. She's been pumping out. Um, there's another jeweler in the Yep. Is there? No, she's the only one. He's the only Cool. She's on the fifth floor. Shout out Emily. I don't know if you listen to this, but I think Emily cops, Dean. I think that's what she is on Instagram as if I'm pronouncing your last name. Right. Forgive If I'm not, but. Come borrow some sugar. Yeah, we haven't seen her. We haven't seen her since she moved in. Yeah. Next time I popped in. Oh, I've seen her like in passing. Um, The Lincoln warehouse has dealt though. We just lost our glassblowing homeys down the way. Because the owner and operator manager of the space, he's he had a baby on the way, congrats to him. Uh, that baby was birthed officially, you know, like a month ago or something, but they will be dearly missed. They will be dearly missed those That initial, that space right down the hallway. That was the space that introduced me to this building. Knowing Brandon Burbank, who was the manager of that space. And. Uh, that's what, you know, That was like a, an event that allowed this to unfold, which. Cool to reflect on just those like little things that happen. And then seeing like these potential opportunities and possibilities in the future. Uh, you know, with this space and that seed was planted. And initially we were, you know, working out of Jacob and I's original, you know, third bedroom in our apartment, which just eventually became too small. And I, I love them. Like four benches up there or something. This is great. It was sick. We got to work from home. It was definitely, you know, very convenient, but this feels so much better to me not working at home all the time. That was a dynamic shift I needed for it to have a healthy relationship with what I do. Being able to leave my house and engage with the world more and be a commuter. Like I really enjoy. I like driving. Nice. We'll see how I feel. I mean, You won't say that it was a half an hour long. I know, I, wouldn't not that see you, I'm only like 12 minutes away and I wanna, I wanna, you know, move closer. Eventually. I really liked the we're in the Bayview area, which is phenomenal, so much good food. Stuff like that, A really great area. And there's a awesome new apartment getting built across the way with some new restaurants and stuff like that. And one thing I want to say is I wish more cafe would open. They've been closed since COVID and they still are close to walk-ins. It's disappointing because I don't even like, see. I don't even see pickups for cafe. It's like at the entrance on the left side of the building, if you're facing it. I never, even though there was a guy. Yeah. It's easy to overlook. Yeah. I like the bar. Um, twist the fat distillery is awesome. The guys down there are excellent people. Great place to have a nightcap. It's usually like my nightcap spot. When I come here on Friday nights and go, go, have a nice cocktail down there. Highly recommend it. Yeah, both bartenders are dope people. Conversation. Readily or you go out and they really are good people. We really utilize the space fully. It's like a 24 hour. Cyclical, you know, investment or. It's just always being used. Yeah. Yeah. Adrian works. I mean, you guys have slept here. I've never slept Uh, I know it's convenient for Jacob. That's about it, but yeah. Adrian likes to work the night owl hours. I'm in here, you know, recently around 10:00 AM to noon after I do whatever I want to do in the morning, stuff like that. But yeah, there's always someone here chipping away. The creative energy is definitely, always present. That's cool stuff. There's always someone here because when you forget something or fuck up, like you have no idea how nice it is to be able to like, quote unquote, call home and be like, Hey, did I turn the stove off? We have a lot of storms Stuff like things. Yeah. What, uh, what is the rest of 2022 entail for all of you guys? Is there anything you're looking to accomplish? Uh, to achieve, to, you know, knock out, to bring to fruition. By the end of the year. Um, I would like to hear where y'all are at Jacob. By the end of the year. Is there anything that sticks out in your mind current? It's happening so quick. We're going to be the end of the year. So soon that like, at this point, like people better be getting in like, you know, Christmas gift. Orders like now, like writing, if you have Soon. So. I have like a bunch of projects that I'm working on, that I'm going to be completing through the end of the year. Hopefully everything that I have on my plate. And then. Just, uh, moving into the new year. You know, B. More available to develop a line drop lines, drop, you know, secret projects or whatever's happening, you know? Stuff like that and just have more free space to be able to. Take projects. But also be able to live in my own apartment. That's yeah. Yup. Yup. Yup. Yup. There you go. 2022. Maybe a year. We're going to make it happen. Can I have a home? My boy's going to have a home. I'm going to live somewhere. I'm going to be here, Jacob. Oh, yeah. Do, can you get a local place? Could you get someone to close and always A closet. I'll read you mine. 200. Let's go. 51 51 50 and you have to chip in on a utilities and one 40. With utilities. He's got good internet. Doug Disney. Plus I got a fish tank. That's pretty fucking cool. He's got console that you can play. Always. Fish tank gave me hope. Yeah. Trying to do so. Why don't you want to do this year? Um, I am going to get a job. And other than that, I have a handful of things that I need to close up with in the next, like, So by next Friday, Um, It was just awful. And then I have a couple of Christmas orders and, uh, Where I can get in through. Getting those big checks. Big fatty checks. Again, sponsored by PB tools. Yeah. If you want to sponsor us. Seize the opportunity now. Yeah, you can. Take advantage. Cleaning supplies. We'll do whatever cleaning supplies. Snacks. honey mamas. Patrion. Yup. Uh, yeah. Eventually. I thought you said you were making, I thought you said you were in the process of. I didn't tell you it was done. Yeah, it's Jacob, Jacob. Uh, his, uh, you know, apron just working. I own the domain. But I'm not like there yet. It's happening. Yeah, we're in this coming together. I own the domain. And we're building and a. For the jewelers syndicated jewelers syndicate. And once that's completed them, We'll announce more details, but yep. Yeah, it's very, uh, very much so natural evolution. It's not like we're sitting down and having weekly meetings at this point. Uh, I know we all want to be more intentional with it to a certain degree. I know Jacob. Yeah. Uh, he's put a lot of time into, you know, bringing some new additions and, and, uh, new bits and pieces to what the jeweler syndicate is. But, uh, I foresee it, you know, cause we have done some education yourself being an education space, being a space where we can bring community together for art events, which we did that this year. Yeah, it was sick. Um, and then continuing to, you know, build our own things with our own crafts and work on our own projects and stuff like that, but not to get sidetracked. Something that I'm looking forward to is, I know I've mentioned this to you guys, but hopefully getting trade shows going next year. Let's do it. Stuff that we take to like local art shows and craft fairs and stuff. So that'd be really cool to dive into, especially with the website being built with those gathering more momentum and direction, as far as what we all want to accomplish. Um, so that'd be great. Uh, I'll personally volunteer to. You know, go to those events. Yeah. I'm just going to need help, like applying to them and figuring out what we would be interested in, where we would fit into like the best. I mean stack. We will do that. We'll make it happen. We'll come up with some cool ideas. I mean, we did have an idea for a pendant a while ago. There's also different concepts that we can approach it with. I mean like just, I know that this Just loosely based. We can have like a portfolio that we take and then say, Hey, this is how much for this reproduction. And then from there offer on like ad-ons to like custom engraving, et cetera, et cetera. So there are, we do need stock, but not to like the point of a lot of these vendors, because what we do is different. We can like market it a certain way where we don't necessarily need all the stock there. I do understand people are going to want to walk up with their piece and then that'll also be available. But. There's a lot of ways to skin the cat. You know, Is there now. Yeah. Tons of everything. It's butchering cats guys. Katz. I like cats I know some of these people got casts, Okay. As far as fish and in charge of a lot of cats. He's a cat man. And they went to heaven. I don't know. He's the cat man, B2B dude. You know, What about your cats? Your cat is blind in one eye. What'd you Uh, kidney garbage. Um, anyway, so yeah. Trade shows. That's really what I want to like I did. That's the point that I'm just going to keep growing with the Fort walking project, as far as like everything that, that entails and just taking out customs here and there. I have like two Christmas projects probably, and like three more to catch up on the back end for a long time ago. But. Other than that. Yeah. Staying on it, dude. My main goal. Fuck. Yeah, dude. I'm with I'm with you on the trade shows. I feel like that's a great opportunity for all of us to engage with the community and more customers and more appreciators of art and to put ourselves out there and I feel we would really be successful in that it would be. Incredibly fulfilling to pursue more of those experiences because that first show we had here. We were expecting. I was like, probably be like 30 people here. It was 90 to 170 to 80. To be conservative. I was like, holy shit. And I think one of my biggest focuses that I want to try and focus on is like, there's so many people that want our art and that can't necessarily like afford the ultimate version of it, you know? So I want to be able to have pieces for those people that, you know, do want to support, but that don't necessarily have a whole stack to blow. So I do want to make it accessible in that and that way. You know what we do still takes a lot of time and money and a lot of magic to make it happen. So. Within reason. Yeah. I want to make it more accessible to everybody, you know? Righteous. Oh, yeah. 2022. It's October. mid-October. But to travel. For a week next week. For me. Definitely the RX collection, batch two, with which Adrian and dive and working on. Diligently, but it's taken much longer than expected. You know, while maintaining the course. With other stuff, there's been a huge amount of prototyping issues, which has to be expected when you're pushing your boundaries and limits. And. You know, it's just incredibly dynamic elaborate processes within jewelry. So that's to be expected. So that's one of the things. And then, uh, you know, honestly I said this year that I'd work on it, like multiple projects for fun, which I never really did. I did, I did a couple things. So I have some things that I'm designing that I want to start bringing to life and put more time into that and find a better balance between custom work and just like. Things for fun and, uh, things. I'm where I'm just purely connecting with the metal and seeing where it leads me with the materials and, uh, you know, exploring innovation and what I can bring to life. One person I want to give a shout out to is SAFT Brooks, inward spectrum. I don't know if you guys saw that ring. He just did, but that inspired the shit out of me. Like I was, I was just staring at that thing bake last night and I watched the video like 30 times. The one where it's the prongs are more stones. Fires. Yeah, but I don't even understand how he made that. So that's, that's where I want ahead. And I'm going to focus on that. You know, seeing how I can fit that into my process and supporting myself throughout the end of 2022. But yeah, outside of that, the main goals are just to continue to have fun, to build with you guys and find ways in which we can support each other. And. Continue to build and, you know, carve out this path of, um, you know, the lives we're looking for within our art and through our art. And, um, yeah, like I said, it just keeps getting better and I feel like we, you know, we learn every single day. Um, learning how to run a business and be an artist at the same time. That's. That's such an in-depth process and there's so much trial and error and, you know, hard. Long hours and lots of mistakes that are made and, you know, pivoting to make, you know, to heading a different direction because you realize you weren't doing something right. So just to continue to elaborate on that and grow together as a team and a family. And yeah, that's where I'm at for the end of the year shenanigans. Yep. Beautiful. Beautiful. I already said you already won. I went first, every single I'm getting his own apartment and. That's not for the syndicate though. That's just for, so you're not sad all the time. Um, Um, I'm going to just move all your guys' shit around mourn. Jake was a master organizer. He's a wizard with like a squirrel. It was a good swirl, Nazi berries. He gets too in depth though. Like he keeps like Tetris stacking shit that you have to like, be able to like get out, but then you have to like on Tetris stack. Perfect brick. Yeah. But how often. How often are you getting that break? Right away. Like right away, like after you did it. Under your break. That's fine. That's It's fun though. It's like, look, I didn't even know this would fit here. And he found it like the perfect spot for it, dude. Just when you think we need more space, we don't We can make it all happen here. If we wanted to host, you know, a six person class, we can do that. We just need to, like, we just need more benches. We could also just need to like move some space and that's I was thinking about that the other night, I'm like, you know, we talked about potentially acquiring another unit to expand into, you know, some more educating and starting to facilitate classes and stuff like that. And I really feel like that's a great opportunity for us to do in the future. So we should. We will talk about that more. But, um, you know, we have all the space we need here to, you know, close out that point, but it's weird. We're like branching into like an area where we're going to have to start like structuring time. Like I'm going to need the studio. For three days. Well, we would all be in on it. So it's like we had, you know, But yeah, that's, that's how it would be. It's a singular space, one room, so we could build. Yup. Yup. Um, so the jeweler syndicate, this is the jeweler. Send the kit.
